4 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Book.......2005-10-20

This book is great. It does a great job of breaking down the text of "Midsummer" and telling what it really means. On one page is the actual text of the play; On the direct opposite page is the translation. The only translation I've found so far that is way out there is the translation of "Tary rash wanton...." The translation is "Wait a minute, you brazen hussy...." Now, HOW is that an understandable translation?? This is the only thing that puts a damper on a perfect score. While I was in a production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," our director frequently had us refer to the book to figure out what in the world we were saying. I highly reccommend buying this book.

4 out of 5 stars Daughter relates.......2005-01-23

My daughter loves Caillou - she's 3 and she seems to relate to him on her level. Yes, he is whiny and I don't like him much, but hey, if my kid can relate to Caillou's experiences, it's good enough for me!

I think these books are good if your kid has an issue with something. I wouldn't want to introduce being afraid of the dark if my daughter hasn't already experienced this and if we didn't have an issue with bedtime. But, knowing your kid has an issue with something, these books are good for addressing these because they can relate to Caillou. Whining and all!

With this in mind, we really liked Good Night, putting away the toys, and Hurry Up!

3 out of 5 stars caillou is whiny.......2004-12-21

I received a set of 3 Caillou books as a shower gift and my son just LOVES them. I was surprised with how much he likes the books (starting at about 14 months) because each page does have quite a bit of text. I also find the books and the show introducing negative emotions that might not enter a child's mind if it wasn't suggested. It seems as if Caillou and his parents are at odds with each other in the books I've read: Good Night, Careful, and Day Care. In the show, he is often whiny and demanding-not the kind of behavior I want my son modeling. Maybe I'm over-analyzing, after all, it's just a children's book and like I said before, my son can't get enough of Caillou.

5 out of 5 stars If this book introduces "negative" themes..........2004-03-31

then just wait! They're probably too young! And skipping the part about being afraid of the dark is dumb. The character is three, wait until your child is three as well. ALL CHILDREN develop some kind/degree of fear of the dark. Its normal and just means theyhave lively imaginations. The book introduces it becauses it's saying, "Hey kid, you're perfectly fine. Everyone has been afraid of the dark. It's Okay! Now go to bed."

2 out of 5 stars Poorly written book.......2003-10-29

I agree with the last review...this book introduces too many negative behaviors for children. Our 2 1/2 year-old daughter has not had a fear of the dark, so we found ourselves editing the story to fit our needs. But aside from that, I've found this book, as with several in the series to be burdensome to read. They introduce too many ideas/lines of text per page, cramming in lots of events that aren't or can't be represented by one picture alone. Also, it just seems these storylines were cranked out without any thought as to cohesiveness and pleasant wording. The Caillou Play Time book actually expresses that Caillou has feelings of hatred toward his parents. Needless to say, it was a bit over-the-top for our tastes.

2 out of 5 stars Not a great Caillou book.......2002-03-28

First of all, this was my 4th Caillou book purchase and my 2 1/2 year old loves the cartoon series so I am a Caillou fan. Despite this,I must say that this book (and another which I just got "Caillou-Careful"-see that review too)has some examples of unwanted behavior in it that I'd would rather not teach to my son. May be my son is more impressionable than others, but he picked up that Caillou was scared of the dark, didn't want to go to bed and wanted his door open. All this stuff needs addresing if it's an issue in your house, but my son has no fear (yet?) of any of those things. I now edit myself when I read this book to my son because I don't want to teach him that there's a reason to fear bedtime. When he loses interest in it I plan on throwing it out. I almost got the Caillou Potty book but I read a reveiw that said almost the same thing that I just said about this book influencing negative behavior. I would suggest avoiding this book for that reason too.

5 out of 5 stars Berenstain Bears in the dark.......2005-09-24

My kids love berenstain bears they tackle just about every issue a kid would go through and gives them encouragement and useful ways to handle the issue. In the dark is no exception my daughter liked the fact that others get scared too andThey encouraged her to face her fears. It even had a funny ending. Just as good as the Tv show. Good for 1st and 2nd level readers. Great to read to any age.

5 out of 5 stars A very cute, teaching book.......2005-02-28

We got this book as part of a set and it's just great. I have to read this one over and over again but I don't mind because it definitely has a good lesson. When brother bear takes out a mystery book to read from the library, sister gets a little scared when he reads part of it to her. He then wails like the cave in the story once they get in bed just to torment her but receives his just reward when sister can't go to sleep without the light on. So, the whole family is up with sister and quite "sleepy-eyed" in the morning. Papa bear sets up his old nightlight for sister who then gets her chance for revenge when she tells brother she wished the story ended with a spooky monstoer and hangs over the edge of the top bunkbed and makes a scary face at him! Brother has a little trouble sleeping after that and decides that mysteries are exactly his "thing" just then. It's fun to read for adults, all of us who remember hanging over the edge of the top bunk to scare a sibling below. I really laughed when I read that. Pretty funny stuff, especially since I did that too! My little one loves this book and it really does help explain how to not let shadows scare you. Great book, great find.

5 out of 5 stars The Berenstain Bears In The Dark.......2003-10-03

This book is about brother bear and sister bear going to the library to get some books. When they arrived home it was reading time and brother bear scared sister bear reading her his scary book he checked out. That night sister bear couldn't fall asleep because she was scared so papa bear gave her a nightlight. That helped her fall asleep and she wasn't scared of the dark anymore. The lesson this book teaches is to not be afraid of the dark. It's a good book and I recommend it for children ages 3-10.

4 out of 5 stars Great Book!.......2002-12-20

I loved this book, expecially because of the way its wrote. Classic dont be scared its all imaginary book. Besides the Berenstain Bears are completely awesome children stories and Teach little kids a nice lesson while decorating their minds with bright pictures.

4 out of 5 stars A review of The IN THE DARK.......2001-12-16

I think this book is a pretty good book for people that like to read to young children, or just for anytime reading. This book features all of our favorite Berenstain Bears characters. Mama bear, Papa bear, Brother and Sister bear all play important parts in this book. In it, sister is read a scary book by brother and then is afraid of the dark, but will the scarer become the scaree?

They called themselves the Night People. And they carefully protected their secret world. No parents, no work, no stress. Just chilling with friends in their own private after-hours club.

But then the nights turned dark. Unexplainable accidents, evil pranks...and then, later, the killings. The Night People know they have to stop the horror all by themselves, or else they risk exposure -- not to mention their lives.

Things go bump in the Night....

This is book one in a trilogy so you will want to make sure there are copies to purchase of or your library also has Midnight Games and Darkest Dawn as well. A very good and entertaining read.

A group of kids hang out in an abandoned house where the previous deceased resident was rumoured to be a witch. They stumble upon a secret room and find jewellery inside which they steal. For these thieves the bullies amongst them get their comeuppance for the tormentation of Candy (also one of those who stole jewels), in a series of terrifying events which are also very entertaining for the reader.

Why does Candy always wear that pendant. So they set out to find out before it's to late.

5 out of 5 stars Stine Returns With A Thrilling Trilogy.......2005-11-16

Lewis and Jamie just wanted some time to be alone in-between working hard in school, college applications, and after-school jobs. So the two seniors snuck out together. Each night, after their parents went to sleep, a little after midnight, they would head out. Then the trend caught on. Soon, Lewis and Jamie weren't the only teens sneaking out at night. First, they went to the old burned-down Fear Mansion, where rats and spiders were found in groups, but it didn't bother them much. Then the Fear Mansion was turned down, and the gang started hanging out at a new bar called Nights - built on top of the Fear Mansion. They were the Night People. But Jamie and Lewis, they remember the crazy stuff that happened, the stuff that caused them to be left back, and repeat Senior year, and leave them in the hospital for months. They all just wanted to have a good time, and hang out with their friends with no parents around to interfere with them. But then the nights turned bleak. Accidents began to happen, pranks gone wrong, and death. Now the Night People must find out the truth, before their secret is exposed.

I have been a fan of R.L. Stine since I was 6-years-old, and have loved everything that he's ever penned. Though MOONLIGHT SECRETS, and the FEAR STREET NIGHTS series, in general, has got to be one of my favorite trilogies by him. Jamie and Lewis are eerie characters, whose cryptic memories of that night at the Fear Mansion send shivers up your spine, while many of the other characters - Shark, Nate, Candy - each possess their own strange quirks. Narrated by Nate, MOONLIGHT SECRETS is a fabulous novel, and sets the groundwork for its sequels MIDNIGHT GAMES and DARKEST DAWN.

4 out of 5 stars Moonlight Secrets.......2005-08-03

Well, I thought that Moonlight Secrets would have been better but it was good. When Candy always used to rub the stone I thought that she would have been doing all that stuff. When ever things used to happen she will be rubbing it and saying words nobody can hear. When cockroaches came out of his mouth that was gross! But the ending was very shocking.Once I found out the stone was fake I was suprised. I will be reading Midnight Games to see what happened.

2 out of 5 stars Not the Fear Street I would have expected..........2005-07-09

The Fear Street series ended with Stine's ambitious 12-part Seniors series back in 1999. That was six years ago. Though it was an interesting and promising undertaking on his part, it finished off with a somewhat disappointing conclusion, like if he was just interested in wrapping it up by that point. I've been a fan of his books since I was in grade school and so having that sort of ending as a "series finale" of sorts made the following absence of newly-written Fear Street books a little difficult to take. When I learned Stine was returning to Fear Street with a new three-part miniseries, I was curious about how a half-decade absence would benefit or hurt the series. Unfortunately, this book seems to hurt more than benefit.

The first thing that surprised me in a positive way comes early in the novel and is relevant to the story: Fear Mansion is finally being torn down to make way for a new shopping center to revitalize the neighborhood. Simply doing this impressed me because not only does it show that Stine is willing to change something about the series in a major way, but also because it makes sense for the place to be torn down after so long. In a way it brings an appropriate sense of closure to all that came before while at the same time promising something new. As one of the characters says, in a line I'm sure has to be self-referential of the book itself, this isn't the old Fear Street. Sure enough, Stine peppers the book with throwaway references of the digital lifestyle of teenagers, ranging from computer programs to Internet-based chat, things that weren't so much in the popular culture during the run of the original series. I liked this because it felt real and suggests Stine has an idea of what teenagers do nowadays, though this may have just pleased me since he's talking about things I like. Despite these things, this one proves to be one of the worst, if not the worst, Fear Street book I've come across.

The plot (what little there is) is basic Stine fare: teenagers disturb something Fear-related and bad, supernatural things start to happen soon after. Nothing wrong with that since it's a staple of the series. The kids call themselves the Night People, and they sneak out at night to escape pressures of school and such and hang out together at the new local bar, Nights, which was built where Fear Mansion used to stand. Said pressures are never indicated so essentially they're just doing it for fun. The story revolves around the three characters Nate, Shark and Candy, and though there are several other characters as well mostly everything revolves around Candy vs. the two boys due to a series of awful pranks played out. Though it isn't expected of Stine to write up characterizations beyond one-dimension, this book proves you can do worse. You will be very lucky to get physical descriptions at all, and the one main example of that has to be a description of a supporting character that contributed nothing to the story besides being there. Even worse, characters are together for the sake of being together. There's no reasoning behind their relationships and nothing to support them except for the fact that Shark and Candy hate each other. That just makes the whole point that these are teens going out and drinking at a bar every night feel tacked on. Also, when one character flat-out reveals their attraction to Nate, you don't know why it happened or why we should care because it feels like Stine needed a few extra paragraphs to pad things out. Yes, it's likely these things will be picked up again and set up the next two books, but the way they're handled here is seriously poor. It's like R.L. Stine submitted a rough draft outline to a book AS a book and I don't understand how his editor let this pass.

The dialogue is worse than any Stine has come up with before, and when taken into the context of certain situations it's downright embarrassing. Detailed descriptions are slim and this disappoints me when looking back at his earliest Fear Street books, where he placed emphasis on detailing the settings and delivering some mood. The book is more dialogue than description. Over the years I've noticed Stine's writing style become more simplistic and quick, most likely due to the demanding schedule of multiple series going on at the same time. But it's been six years since the last Fear Street. I would have expected him to have gotten better or made an effort to deliver something better for his return. The thing that upset me most was that though the book summary says the danger gets amped up when the "killings" begin, only one death occurs and the reaction to it from a supporting character is so stupid because it lacks any logical, emotive punch, especially when you consider just why that particular death occurs. The rest goes for the others involved because it's too unrealistic, like the consequence doesn't register to either the characters or the writer. You don't even get the sense they're concerned about their night lives becoming exposed, so not only are the reasons to going out not really discussed but the urgency to keep it a secret is hardly there at all.

The biggest violation is the fact that by the end of the book you don't know what's going on or who/what the enemy is, and this isn't acceptable for the first book in a trilogy. The book isn't even a stand-alone, it acts like it's expecting you to come back and read the next one for the answers anyway and that isn't fair. Like with the Fear Street Cheerleaders or even Fear Park, there was a clear, self-contained story that offers a cliffhanger to draw you back, but at least they gave you some answers to what was going on during the first book. Here, it isn't the case and so it's just a bunch of disjointed events without resolution. On that note, the book does offer a lot of gruesome ideas in the classic Fear Street tradition, but I think only a fan would appreciate them after not having any new Fear Street in so long.

I understand that I've gotten older since the last Fear Street book came out and I look at things with a different perspective now, and that could account for how I felt with this book. However, as a fan and a reader I'd have expected him to return to the series with something worthwhile and with reasonable quality. As the first entry to a trilogy, it's a really bad one and a letdown. I'm willing to read the next book but the nostaligic factor isn't enough to give me confidence going in. I need to check-up on the other stand-alone novels he's been doing to confirm he still knows how to write.

5 out of 5 stars A Thrilling Conclusion to An Engrossing Trilogy.......2005-11-17

The Night People can finally rest at ease. The evil is gone. Done with. And while the memories of the vicious pranks, and horrific murders are still emblazoned in everyone's minds, they are nothing more than a part of the past. Everything is back to normal. At last. The friends who are still breathing - Dana, Jamie, Nate, Shark, Lewis - are trying to put their lives back together, and still meet late at night at their beloved hangout, Nights, where they can forget about the past. After all, it was Angelica Fear's ancient spirit that was wreaking havoc. And now Angelica is dead. Burned in a fire that destroyed her body, soul, and spirit for all eternity. But if it's true. If Angelica is truly dead, then how come Jamie still feels an evil spirit lingering around. And what did Angelica actually mean when she screamed out, "The evil lives," through the crackling of the flames.

It is a huge rarity for me to read an entire trilogy/book series all in a row based solely on the fact that I usually get bored with characters. That obviously doesn't apply to Stine's books, for after finishing MOONLIGHT SECRETS, I quickly moved onto MIDNIGHT GAMES, and finished up the trilogy with DARKEST DAWN, all in a period of two days. Stine's characters truly grow on you through each book, as you get the opportunity to see them over a period of time, and see how their personalities change after each bought of evil they encounter. Narrated by Jamie's sensible, caring voice, DARKEST DAWN is a marvelous ending to an engrossing trilogy.

3 out of 5 stars Review.......2006-05-18

It was a decent book good suspense. It started off as a little slow and got faster then went to slow and boring and confusing. It picked up and got to be faster and easier to understand.
I'm going to show you a little bit of the book to get you a little taste of it.
There were these friends and they heard about this mansion and the family that had lived in the mansion. The family knew all about magic and witchcraft. The wife named Angelica Fear was knew all about witchcraft and had a blue jewel that gave her immortality. So she used it and came back in a body that wasn't hers... It was Jamie's...
One day Dana Fear came into the town for the summer to spend with her family and Dana is related to the Fears and Bad things started happening and they all blamed Dana ....so read the rest of the book to find out what happens......it'll blow your mind.

The horrors continue for the Night People.Jamie's cousin Dana Fear comes to Shadyside to spend her senior year at shadyside high.Yet the Fear name isn't popular at Shadyside and with good reason for the Fears are consider Evil murderers. This proves true with Dana's arrival for evil things start to happen and people are dying.Yet Dana claims she innocent is she?Has Angelica Fear returned? To find out you'll have to read the book

5 out of 5 stars Being the New Girl Can Be Murder..........2005-11-17

Dana Fear can imagine one hundred other places in the world she'd rather spend the rest of her senior year, but imagining won't change the fate that has come ot her. For Dana Fear is forced to spend the rest of her senior year at Shadyside High, with her cousin Jamie. The Fear name doesn't have a very good reputation in Shadyside, what with all of the evil history told about them, so Dana receives a very strange welcome. People either want to get to know her in an attempt to learn more about the Fear's, or they steer clear of her, treating her like a witch. But then she's invited to join the Night People. Dana realizes now that Shadyside isn't so bad when you're getting a buzz with some of your closest friends at a bar called Nights. That is, until the evil strikes again. Soon, the Night People are being picked off one by one. Dana tries to tell everyone that she's innocent, but all fingers are pointing at her. After all, she is a Fear...

Sequels are rarely better than their predecessors, but in Stine's case, MIDNIGHT GAMES outshines MOONLIGHT SECRETS - if that's even possible. MIDNIGHT GAMES, narrated by Dana Fear, introduces a new character who raises suspicion in every scene she appears in. Her high-fashion good looks, and I-could-care-less personality will make her appealing to readers; while the characters from the last book in the trilogy, MOONLIGHT SECRETS, will make readers feel at home with some old friendly faces. Overall, this is a fabulous sequel to MOONLIGHT SECRETS, that screams of more death, blood, and...evil.

3 out of 5 stars Thankfully better than the first..........2005-07-14

Midnight Games is the second part to R.L. Stine's newest Fear Street miniseries in several years, Fear Street Nights. The first book, Moonlight Secrets, was a very poor entry that was bare and embarrassing to the whole series itself. I expected much of the same from Midnight Games but was surprised to see that it was a major, significant improvement compared to the previous book, which only hurts Moonlight Secrets by proving the first book was a total waste of time altogether. If anything, this is where the real trilogy begins, though it doesn't seem to be helping it much.

The second book begins a month after the events in the first one, following the accidental death that befell one of the Night People (kids who sneak out late at night and hang out at the local bar Nights, built where the Fear Mansion used to stand). The consequences of the first book's ending are barely explored with Nate, mainly because the book takes focus on another plot line almost immediately. Dana Fear is introduced and comes to Shadyside to stay with her cousin Jamie, one of the Night People, and becomes involved with their late-night activities and lives. More specifically, the book focuses on the love triangle between Dana, Nate, and Ada, the latter character having hooked up with Nate out of nowhere and without reason in the first book, and the trouble that begins when unusual things start to happen to Ada. Dana is accused and suspected of the problems because of her Fear background and as things progress it gets worse and worse between her and everyone else.

If anywhere, Stine's writing quality steps up as soon as Dana enters the picture. He's much more descriptive about character traits and settings, and actually allows for a plot to take place once she comes in. At the same time, though, she appears to be nothing more than a plot device designed to make this a special event in the series by introducing a new Fear. Her being a Fear brings nothing to the table beyond giving everyone a scapegoat for what's going on. That's not to say she doesn't contribute something, since her backstory offers the most character definition of any of the other characters thus far. Stine should have used this story as the first book because not only does it offer answers to what happened in here and the book before it, but it has much more of a plot. Moonlight Secrets could have been condensed or have run parallel to this story and have made for a better entry. Plus, this book offers more character deaths and chooses to hold back on the gore for some plot buildup.

The main issues lie in how this is shaping the trilogy as a whole and how it stands as a book. Stine introduces elements that don't connect at all to the first book and are poorly shoehorned in to benefit what's going on now. Specifically, the role of a one-eyed blackbird and its function, and the whole thing concerning Dana's boyfriend. Stine at least remembers Jamie's desire to contact her dead cousin from the first book here. Ultimately at the end, though, we learn just what happened at the end of the first book and why, and we learn who the enemy has been for the past two books. The issue here is that answers to Moonlight Secrets were held back for this book, which only reflects the point that in reality this miniseries has little to nothing going for it and is just filler. The whole premise of kids sneaking out to go to a bar really doesn't mean anything here because the basic story is merely a weak blend of the Cheerleaders and Saga miniseries that, so far, could be told without the Nights angle. The point this is their own secret time is largely ignored. If anything, Midnight Games makes it seem that this whole trilogy was just thrown together for the sake of creating a new Fear Street event, considering the "outline" impression the first book gave and the errors, printing and otherwise, found in this one. The "defeat" of the enemy at the climax and the way it happens is more than enough proof that there's little to no care being put in this.

I doubt that Darkest Dawn, the next book, is going to redeem the whole miniseries but am willing to take a look at it only so that I can see just why Stine had to not only demolish the Fear Street as it is known in Shadyside, but also mess with the legacy of the book series itself. If you intend on reading Fear Street Nights, it's better to just read Midnight Games first since the events from the first book are recapped without the useless fat.

This was a great book. It was fast paced with lots of action, charecter descriptions, and two deaths. I liked Dana, but I wish Angelica had been revieled in the last book, and the ending was kinda wierd. Overall a good book.

Thunder like mountains blowing up.
Lightning licking the navy-blue sky.
Rain streaming down the windows,
babbling in the downspouts.
And Grandfather? . . .
And Thomas? . . .
And Ringo, the cat?
They were in the dark.

Too early to go to bed, and with only flashes of lightning to see by, Thomas and his grandfather happily find themselves re-discovering the half-forgotten scents and sounds of their world, and having a wonderful time learning important, new things about each other in a spirited conversation sparked by darkness.

This book is execellent in explaining about fear and how to conquer it. My f0ur children loved it!

4 out of 5 stars Not for the very young.......2003-01-02

I read this to my kindergarten class and they struggled to stay interested in the story. It contains mostly dialog which was difficult to follow. Also the dark illustrations were not friendly. The story is good, about overcoming fear and being honest about about your feelings. However, your audience should be about 1st or 2nd grade and you'll want to read it with different voices to help the children understand who is talking.

4 out of 5 stars Storm In The Night Review.......2000-03-01

I really liked this book. It reminds me of some nights when there's a storm outside of my house. However I don't like how she puts the story in two worlds. One is in Thomas's world. One is in Grandfather's story. However it was a good story and the illustrations were exceptional.

    Customer Reviews:

    3 out of 5 stars It's a Killer Party!.......2007-01-04

Somehow, my library said this was the first book in the Fear Street series, but it's not...its way down on the list, it's 45 in the series. All-Night Party does fine as a stand alone book, though I do wonder if there isn't more about the location and background (since I believe all the stores are set in and around the town of Shadyside). In this book we have a medium cast of teenagers who set out to jokingly kidnap their friend Cindy to her birthday party out at a deserted cabin on Fear Island. During the botched kidnapping, one of the friends reveals that here is an escaped prison inmate out on the loose, but that doesn't stop our intrepid party goers. All in all, it's a pretty typical set up; kids alone on an island with no phone, a remote cabin, dark and stormy night and tension amongst friends while the spoiled and selfish birthday girl is unaware that she's made her very last birthday wish!

The characters include Hannah Waters, Cindy's oldest best friend; Gretchen Davies, a relatively new girl who's just glad to be accepted by the group but is sometimes put off by Cindy's selfish and vain behavior; Gil Shepherd, Hannah's boyfriend (who used to be Cindy's boyfriend until her parents wouldn't let her see him anymore); Jackson Kane, the kinda intense and creepy guy, a loner; Patrick Munson a friend whom Cindy loves to tease; and Cindy, the spoiled and self-centered birthday girl. They're all pretty typical teenage characters full of angst and melodramatic goings on...Hannah and Cindy vie for Gil's attention; Cindy likes to have whatever Hannah is wants whether she really wants it or not, and so on.

All-Night Party takes all that, throws in the prospect of an escaped killer convict, mixes in a dark and stormy night and you've got an easy set up for a teenage murder-mystery! When Cindy turns up dead, the party goers initially think the maniac is on the island, but it slowly dawns on them that the killer isn't some unknown lunatic...it's one of them. That's when things get interesting...who did it? Read though this quick little mystery and see if you can piece it together before the big "reveal" at the end.

Overall, All-Night Party has good atmosphere and the antagonism between the characters is good, but occasionally grating (a bit overdone), and I enjoyed figuring out who done it (early on unfortunately), but it was still a fun read, kind of the way a B movie is still fun to watch even though you figure out who the killer is halfway through the movie! I give it three stars, a light and entertaining murder-mystery with classic horror elements.

5 out of 5 stars R.L Stine All Night Party.......2006-09-25

This is a great book by R.L. Stine of
the Fear Street books. As all R.L . Stine books
this is a mystery. But this is a much different way
to approaching the genre of mystery.

This is about a group of students at Shady Side
High School. When one girl's birthday approaches, they
decide to throw a surprise birthday party for her on
Fear Island which is about two miles away from their houses. Little
did they know one boy brought a gun. When one girl
noticed it she asked him about it and then
he looked down and said that his dad gave him
the gun for the trip because he told his son
there was an escaped murder on Fear Island. He said he did not want to ruin the
party so he never mentioned it. So they go anyway but
when the party girl is found dead in the kitchen they
all fear for their lives. Was it one of their friends
    or the escaped murderer?

I would recommend this book to Sixth, Seventh, and Eight
graders. This is considered a young adult book. I would
definately agree with that because even being in seventh
grade the book actually scared me at parts.

    Book Review
    All-Night Party by: R.L Stine
This story is a book about a girl named Gretchen. Gretchen and her friends throw a suprise party for there other friend Sindy. This "suprise" party is at an Island called Fear Island. But unfortunately someone dies, who will it be? The friends were Hanna, Patrick, Jackson, Gill, and Marco(Gretchen's boyfriend). The "suprise" party was supposed to be suprising, special, and fun, but it turns out to be like a horrifying murder movie. Patrick says that there's an escape prisoner on the loose. Now were not sure if the escape prisoner is the murderer?
As you can see, this was one of my favorite books. It was one of the most frightening books in my history of life. I also thought this book was the best scripted and described book out of all the books I have read in my past. I recommend reading this book or the Fear Street series... Keep reading!!!

    3 out of 5 stars Eh..........2005-07-10

It was an okay book. About a bunch of teens having a birthday party on a remote island. Most people leave the house then when returning one girl finds a surprize in the kitchen. The main problem in this book was that R.L. Stine tried to put too much suspense in it and it sort of gets old. just buy a used copy for a penny for reading when you have nothing else to do. I reccomend that you get the babysitter 1 by R.L. It's one of my favorites!

    5 out of 5 stars Heather's review.......2005-01-21

I really liked this story. The reason I liked this story was because I love all R.L.Stine stories also because they are scary. I love scary, mysterious, and horror stories like that. Another reason I loved this story was because the way they put murder stories and how they keep making you want to read because of the awesome hooks they have in the stories. R.L.Stine is a great author of scary stories.
There was Hanna, Gil, Patrick, Gretchen, Jackson, and Marco. It was a girl named Cindy's birthday, which they are all her friends. So for her birthday they kidnapped her and brought her to this island called Fear Island. As a joke they did it for her birthday for a surprise birthday. Patrick said there was a killer on the loose at Fear Island. But the party was a blast they wouldn't let a killer ruin their party. Or would they? Cindy was found dead on the floor. Did Patrick make that up? Did one of her friends kill her? Read the book it's an awesome book.
Who I would recommend this book to is a girl or boy. Only thing is you have to like horror, mysteries, or scary stories. Well you don't have to but that is what the story is about so you shouldn't read it if you don't like one of those topics because it will boar you. This is an awesome book I think everyone should read this book

4 out of 5 stars Well illustrated, delightful book........2005-03-19

The animals have great expressions on their faces. Entertaining book with a happy ending. Just the right amount of text on each page to retain the attention of a young child (probably those on the younger side of 3-7). It only got 4 stars (3 1/2 if I had that option) because 1) there was a full moon during the dark night. 2) the bear was hungry for meat but (spoiler!) not at the end? 3) this book does not have many "hidden things" - we like looking at books with "things" hidden within each page, things that we find after reading the same book many many times. BTW, points 1 was raised by my younger son and our explanation was nights were always dark in the forest. Point 2 was raised by my older son who was (and still is) in the habit of asking insightful questions... I'm glad to get this book for a bargain but wouldn't spend the full hardcover price.

5 out of 5 stars Loved this one.......2004-03-08

Adorable and well illustrated. The author leads the young reader to believe that Mouse and Mole are headed to their own demise. This book is a great read aloud also and I have used it in my classroom. Children love the meter of the ryhmed text. Highly recommended. You'll love the happy ending.

    5 out of 5 stars Lovely Book.......2004-02-07

I have a two year old daughter who loves this book. I also have a nine year old daughter who thinks that this book is alot of fun. They both enjoy the nice surprsie at the end of the book after all of the built up suspense! This book is a treasure!

5 out of 5 stars SURE TO BECOME A CLASSIC.......2003-10-08

This is simply the best children's book I've read in a long time. The story is compelling, surprising, and fun. The text is perfectly balanced and easy to read. My 4 year old daughter loves it, and I love to read it to her. This is one I never get tired of.

5 out of 5 stars This book is a definite keeper!.......2003-07-09

Mouse and Mole are two teensy-tiny creatures in the woods. There's a BIG GIANT hungry bear there too. "Then, one dark night. . ." Mouse and Mole venture out and travel through the woods. Meanwhile the bear is getting hungrier and hungrier. Of course, they meet. . .and, the ending will surprise you! You will fall in love with the characters because the illustrations are so well done. But the best part of all for me, as a teacher, is the rhythm and rhyme of this story. Kids love to hear good verse and Lisa Wheeler has it!
