All-in-one as a study guide.......2007-10-09
I just received an e-mail confirming I passed the test and I can say that this book is a really good overall reference. It has very good coverage of all the core domains that the CISSP exam covers and was practically my only study tool - definitely my only study book. I used the free exam questions at cccure.org (great reference) as well as some quick guides from that site (that are pretty much built off of the all-in-one and a couple of other books to provide quick reference).
I highly recommend this book (or the 4th edition which has just come out) to anyone considering taking the exam. While the exam is difficult, mastery of the subject matter is definitely possible with this guide and a bit of experience. The exam is very much concept-based, and by that I mean that you need to understand the concepts behind the core domains as oppsoed to just memorizing everything. Memorization is useful (and necessary) in a number of areas, but if you memorize without understanding the concepts there are plenty of questions that you can miss on the test. The exam really does a pretty good job of trying to draw on how well you understand the material. There are a number of people out there that state that the jokes or no good or there are gaps. First, it's not a comedy book. The style is meant to put the reader at ease so that the material can be more easily absorbed. Second, there are going to be gaps with any book because the exam is not written off of one. Plus, I tried reading the "official guide" a long time back. Dry, dry, dry, dry, dry. I couldn't force myself past 175 pages. And finally, there are a number of books that go into an absurd amount of detail. I think it's easy to get lost in that stuff. This one has good coverage without getting you lost in the weeds for an exam where that really isn't necessary. Overall I probably studied about 170 to 200 hours over a period of 3 to 4 months (but not every single day). Give yourself plenty of time to read and understand.
Also, the CD questions are a good way to test your comprehension. Use it. The end of the chapter questions are ok, but you should DEFINITELY use cccure.org to get a feel for how difficult questions will actually be and how they are worded on the test.
To anyone going for it I say good luck. It's not an easy test to take. As a frame of reference, I was able to complete it in about 4 hours - being really careful to read the questions well and also going back over the ones that I wasn't so sure about. It's grueling, but very doable.
Hope this helps.
Read Book - Passed September 1007 test - nuff said.......2007-10-08
I took the CISSP test in September 2007 and was shocked at how easy the exam was for me. I assume my preparation made it seem easy, so...
Prior to taking the test:
I bought the AIO (3rd ed.) and started reading it.
It was too long, so I bought the CompTIA Security+ book.
I read the CompTIA book and took the Security+ test (easy test as I expected)
I then started reading the AIO again at a 20page/hour pace while commuting to/from work.
I also got a copy of the Shon Harris DVDs and made them into MP3s and listened to it on my commute to/from the train station (They could have sold this as a book on tape for the AIO)
I highly recommend this book ...and her DVDs (converted to MP3s)
Great book!.......2007-10-04
This book was excellent in helping me study for the CISSP exam. Good luck.
Great Study resource.......2007-09-25
I just passed the test. I used the Passport, this book, and the Official Guide to the (ISC)2 CBK to study along with practice tests, etc. I thought this was the best study guide out of them. The CBK guide gives more information on the various topics but this gives you a lot of the information you need and I would highly recommend anyone taking the exam to read this book. The Passport was also useful as a brief study guide. It gives a good overview to read first and to read through again to refresh for the test. The practice questions on the CD were also very helpful in preparation. I have never been disappointed with any of the books in the All in One series that i have read.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Book! A quick read with great lessons!.......2006-12-11
Excellent book described in much detail by the other reviewers. I thought about giving it 4 stars since it is a little dated on current CMM status but I think that would have been a disservice.
Thanks Tom DeMarco for another great title. Check out Mr. DeMarco's other titles including Peopleware.
Too sad to be true.......2006-11-10
After working for a software company for more than 7 years , this book is actually of no surprise to me at all. However, those of you who want to know how software projects work in reality, this book is a very good and true reflection of that. We probably all studied Project Management Essentials, but all the projects I have been involved in so far, run more like the one described in this book and not like in the school manual. Enjoy the reality.
excellent novel cum software project management insights!.......2006-06-19
The setting of the novel are in the fictitious republic of Morovia where our lead character ends up somehow.
The target of the govt of Morovia to have the best software export facility in the world by some time , has indeed parallels in the real world , most notably India and those who want to follow the Indian model like China , Pakistan , etc etc .
Mr.Demarco's acute powers of observations in the real world is more than apparent in his incisive analysis of the personalities that have had varoius roles in the past , as depicted in the setting of the novel. Whether it be that of General Markov and his remarkable administrative capabilities owing to a career span of experience in military origanisations or Binda who is reportedly the world's best project manager or researchers like Abdul Jamid who have studied and developed various models for modelign the hunches of good managers , in all of this Demarco has sort of amalgamated - in my opinion - his deep observations of different people in these roles from the real world based on his experiences and his own opinions on these roles formed through the author's rather distingushed career . This gives us a wonderful insight into the dynamics of these roles , and that too in the setting of a novel which maintains all the while to be an interesting read.
His insistence through the mouthpiece of the lead character of this novel that good management , more than anything else is about people - while overly simplistic - is still , in my opinion , correct in its spirit and core. The same as a matter of fact is true about anything else in real world and life - it is all about people.
Coming back to the book review , I believe Mr.Demarco has done remarkably well in employing this pedagogical device of a novel like like setting to discuss various issues one has to cope with in a high tech software project . This has been done through various characters with different roles who interact with the lead character of the novel : people like superb project manager colleagues , bossy and stupid management, expert consultants , good and bad team members etc .
Any reader who has been in the software industry for a while in any role will be able to relate to a fair subset of these people and the experiences.
The value of this novel is in the various valuable insights coming from different people of the novel setting which invariably have parallels in the real world . It would not have been possible for someone to write this novel unless like Mr.Demarco they have been in the software industry themselves .
I would highly recommend this very readable novel to people from the software industry , as it offers a lot of educating insights even if at times one does not agree to some of the opinions of the characters involved.
Could have been summarized in about 5 pages.......2005-10-05
Deadline follows the two-year fictitious journey of IS project manager Webster Tompkins, illustrating the lessons he learns along the way. I bought this book primarily due to the great reviews it garnered on Amazon.com. After all, you can't go wrong when a book rates 4.5 out of 5 stars from over 25 readers, can you? Yep. This book was terrible, because of two very big problems: the book didn't say very much in 300+ pages and what it did say I don't agree with (it also tends to contradict much of Tom Peter's 'In Search of Excellence'). Or, to state it another way, the book points out about five very useful lessons/pieces of information, but takes forever to do so. Those lessons could have been summarized in about five pages--with compelling examples.
Not the author's best (includes spoilers).......2005-05-26
While I greatly enjoyed DeMarco's non-fiction books "Peopleware" and "Slack", I felt this attempt at a novel was weak.
*** spoiler warning ***
Tompkins, the main character, has supposedly been chosen for his role in this novel because he is an gifted, experienced manager. Yet pretty much every chapter is a lesson he learns by screwing up. Perhaps I would have found it more palatable if the character was a newly-promoted manager, who knew he was ignorant.
In the end, comes the revelation that, in spite of all the mistakes, he is an excellent manager because he *cares* about people. I don't see how this shows. Among the management problems he faces is reporting to a difficult supervisor up the chain, and the solution to this problem is essentially to have the man poisoned and sent to the hospital! Can you say cognitive dissonance?

Story Behind the Book
Deadline is Randy Alcorn ’s first novel, which stayed on the bestseller’s list for thirty-six months. A thorough researcher, Randy spent time with Portland homicide detectives and columnists at the Oregonian, as well as observing editorial meetings at the Indianapolis Star so he could accurately create the novel’s murder-mystery storyline, setting, and characters. Randy also creatively portrays characters who have died and gone to heaven, where they view events happening on earth.
Customer Reviews:
Inspired and impressed.......2007-09-10
This book was hard to put down. I carried it with me during the day just in case I had breaks or had to wait in line... Incredible writing and wondrous imagination. Many of my secret doubts and concerns regarding God and stuff were addressed in "Deadline." (i.e.: Heaven sounds kinda boring - do we just sit around and praise God constantly?) What I mean by that is the author used his God-given imagination to suggest how amazing and forever fascinating heaven could be. I'm grateful to God that He has used Randy Alcorn to write books. The reviews I read about this book made me skeptical at first because they were extremely positive. Now that I've read it for myself, I understand and agree. Do yourself a favor and read this book. It's highly entertaining and it makes you think at the same time!
Somthing to think about........2007-09-04
Deadline involves the story of 3 men who have been best friends for many yars. The story begins with a car crash that killed 2 of the men. Initially thought to be an accident, it was later discovered to be homocide.
The surviving man is a newspaper columnist who has routinely written articles in a "politically correct" manner in order not to offend any one group.
One of the men, who was a devout Christian, has entered into Heaven, while one was sent to Hell. Alcorn does a good job of FICTIONAL writing giving an idea of what both could possibly be like. Unlike other reviewers, I can see where his ideas are plausible, and know they are FICTION, not factual events. The story does give a reader food for thought, and reminds us that we will be held responsible for earthly decisions, and that at death it will be too late to change.
Jake, the remaining man, begins to work to find the person responsible for killing his friends. In the process, he has to confront his own beliefs, and comes face to face with himself on how his writing has encouraged the emergence of a society that have allowed groups to take freedom of speech too far, while the masses sit by and allow inappropriate actions to avoid not being politically correct.
This novel is not preachy, but does cover Christian Principles throughout, and could be enjoyed by both Christians and those seeking.
My problem with this Novel is that I felt there were too many sub-subjects being thrown around, with no clear conclusion to any 1.Its as if Alcorn was attempting to sneak into one novel many of his viewpoints. This may lead to a series: however, the material was scattered and not neatly "packaged." This left me confused at times, and overburdeoned with reading subject material that didn't pertain to the actual story.
Over all, I am not sorry I bought the book, but unsure if I'll read this author again.
Great book........2007-08-10
I am a Randy Alcorn fan and this is a book that will hold your interest to the last page.
Much more than a murder mystery.......2007-08-09
This book was pretty amazing. In fact, it does not do it justice to simply call it a murder mystery. It's hard to categorize. It could be filed under theology, social issues, spiritual warfare, evangelism, and possibly some others as well. Mr. Alcorn is quite detailed and methodical in style. The book was a very lengthy 424 pages in the paperback I read. There were times when I got the feeling Mr. Alcorn wanted to discuss certain theological and social issues, so developed a story that could encompass them all. That is not to denigrate the impact of the story; he makes it work well. Some of the descriptions of the conditions in heaven, as he imagines it, are very inspiring. I'm still thinking about the concept of departed loved ones praying for the living. Very interesting. This novel will leave a lasting impression.
Ok literature.......2007-04-08
This is an ok piece of literature. It is interesting but not really appropriate for young people.

Customer Reviews:
A Must-Have For Freshman!.......2007-09-07
This book is clever, entertaining, and an overall informative read that every college freshman should relish. Dr. Kadar arms one with the knowledge in order to make educated decisions during the first year and beyond. The invaluable advice contained in this book will propel one to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Upon reading this book one will be at a significant advantage upon entering freshman year!
Great Book.......2007-08-16
I am a longtime friend of Dr. Kadar and a math teacher at Hollywood High School in Los Angeles.
I enjoyed the book immensely primarily because of its readability. Dr. Kadar has a real gift for communicating about topics on which others frequently just lecture . His candid, lucid style make this work approachable for his target audience: high school seniors, many of whom abhor reading anything. I can't think of anyone who would not benefit from the wit and wisdom contained in this book. The straightforward, yet whimsical approach to academics, campus social life, the trials and joys of this coming of age period--make this tome a pleasure to recommend to all.
Why this book..........2007-08-14
Hello. I am the author of College Life 102. I started writing this book for my son, Kenny, as he went off to college. I wanted to share with him knowledge and insights from my eleven years of post-secondary education and over a quarter century of teaching college and medical students. I wanted to help him make a smooth transition to college and to thrive there from the start.
College Life 102 contains insights on how to study smarter instead of harder. It includes strategies I've not seen described anywhere else, such as technique for dodging the stress of deadlines that I call the "pre-deadline deadline."
One section of the book consists of science based information to enable students to make wiser decisions about their diet, alcohol consumption and other health related topics. As a medical doctor and educator, I feel particularly qualified to discuss these issues. My goal in these chapters is to be accurate and therefore credible, to neither exaggerate nor minimize the risks that students face.
Kenny shared the book with his friends and later with students at the University of Washington, when he became an instructor in their freshman orientation program. I received lots of useful and encouraging feedback. I added sections and modified others to update the book. Kenny graduated in four years, cum laude with distinction.
College Life 102, The No-Bull Guide to a Great Freshman Year, contains information I wish I had before I started college. Why 102 instead of 101? This is a more advanced course. It teaches students not to survive but to thrive. Carpe diem!
Not a book for good kids.......2007-07-23
I read the reviews and purchase this book for my 17 year old daughter. What a shock! This book tells them how many pot laced brownies to eat...then speaks about oral sex...... This is not a book for kids who are raise with good morals and values. Worst book I have ever purchased.
no punches pulled........2007-04-16
Full disclosure: I am a friend of the author. HOWEVER... we often have rather heated political discussions.
I was surprised that the book not only gives the sort of advice I (as a college teacher) would want people to know.... the sort of "common sense" that is not very common (such as making efforts at the beginning of the class rather than at the end), but goes further and discusses the sorts of temptations students will run into in their dormitories, such as binge drinking, sex, etc.
Andrew doesn't make value judgments about those who indulge... rather, he gives clear explanations on what is likely to go wrong, so that the student can be forearmed. My college age son now has two copies of this book...

Customer Reviews:
Practical but not just a "how to do book".......2007-01-05
I liked it. It is a useful book but it's not just a "how to do book". It is also good for people working at the communication sector for non-profit organizations.
Excellent Read.......2006-11-06
This purchase was initially a required reading for University. "On Deadline" is well written and is a great reference book in Public Relations.
I often use this book as a reference tool and I definitely recommend this book.
These other reviews must be paid endorsements.......2006-03-05
I bought this book based in part on the rave reviews. I did not see much value in the book -- It reads like a couple of friends got together and said, "hey, since we're good at this, we should write a book about it!" But the text is scattered, and the instructions are not at all useful. When an example is given to illustrate a point, it's hard to see the relevance of the example, or how it relates to something you might do yourself. There's an old adage, "Those who can't, teach." The reverse is true here: "Those who can, should stick with what they do best, and not try to teach unless they know how to teach."
Awesome!.......2005-02-06
One of the best books ever written on the specialized function of PR! One of my professors in graduate school used this text as one of his "recommended" reading selections. By the time he referred to it several times through the semester, I asked my parents for it as one of my Christmas presents! I still have it and plan to use it as I pursue my Ph.D. in PR/Communications. The information it the text is both timely and timeless!
Strong Resource Material.......2004-12-01
Excellent material here. Should be a part of any media pro's resource library.
Customer Reviews:
review of Deadline by John Dunning.......2006-06-29
John Dunning, as usual is great. Every one of his books seems to be better than the last.
A simpler/starker Dunning.......2005-12-18
This was written well over a decade before Dunnings masterful Cliff Janeway novels. The prose is leaner and the plot is not as intricate here in Deadline. It is obviously a story that was written in the early stages of a careers arc. All of that aside, Dunning hands us a great protagonist in the form of Dalton Walker. Walker is a somewhat disillusioned newspaper reporter who has a nack for writing tear jerker prose. Through a series of events, stemming from the death of a little girl, Walker is drawn into a heinous plot that threatens his life.
The peripheral characters don't ring as true as Walker here. Dalton, an FBI agent does come across as a whole person, but the women (who play primary parts here) are left as simple. And the reasons for why they do what they do are unfocused. I think that even in the Janeway books, Dunning does not strongly deal with the female persona, so this might be one of his achilies heals.
The Janeway novels do feel like a 1950's throwback. Deadline does so as well. This is a noirish book that will satisfy you and not leave you cursing the author as so many of todays writers do.
Not like the others, but still good.......2002-05-24
This is a solid thriller featuring Dalton Walker, a prize-winning reporter who gets a job with a local newspaper. His first assignment is to interview one of the Rockettes from Radio City Music Hall, Diana Yoder. She comes from an Amish background and the editor thinks her story would be a great human-interest piece--what with all the inherent conflict. What he finds out is the reason he was assigned this is that she does not give interviews. The editor has made her reporter-shy. Meanwhile, and eight-year-old girl has died in a fire. The police wait for her family to come forward to claim her body--but they never do.
Others have said that this is not up to the author's later works (e.g., Booked to Die; Two O'Clock, Eastern Wartime), and this is true. But a John Dunning novel always has a lot to offer. This is not a pedestrian novel. Unlike most mysteries/thrillers, but like other Dunning novels, the focus is more on characterization and detail than on any unanswered questions. This makes for a slower read, but a nonetheless engrossing one. When Dunning writes about something you can be sure he has researched it. The evocation of Amish life in this book is like none I've read since James Michener's The Novel.
There is plenty to enjoy here. Dalton Walker is a character I would like to revisit.
One of my all time favourites.......1998-08-15
I loved this one. A refreshing read. Go And Buy This One and Keep It As A Treasure ...
Great early Dunning.......1998-02-03
If you like Dunning's later works you will enjoy this one. It was like reading Grisham's first piece "A time to kill" after some of his later ones...a bit rough, but clearly the author we have grown to love. This story is a great read if you like exploring both the physical and psychological worlds.

All I can say is wow!! This was a very impressive book, especially since I have read dozens of novels over the years. Probably the best aspect of the story was the dialog between characters. Alcorns gift beyond other great writers is his ability to take the reader right into the scene as the characters converse. Indeed, I found myself laughing out loud at some of the exchanges between the characters. This was truly a well written piece of fiction. I would recommend it to anyone.
A well written book combining faith in Christ with a detective mystery is Deception by Randy Alcorn.......2007-09-12
This is well written fictional first person detective mystery that combines present day life, life in heaven and even a small glimpse of what life may be like in hell. Ollie Chandler is the detective we follow throughout the book. Jake, a fellow detective and long time friend and Clarence, a newspaper reporter and friend because of a previous case, are Christians who are active in trying to evangelize Ollie. The dead guy is William Palatine, the suspects are the entire detective department of the Portland Police, including Ollie. Ollie has the job of convincing the others in the department that he is correct in thinking one of them was the murderer and the twists he takes in his thinking through and following the evidence are many and complex.
This is a page turner, exciting book to read here are a few quotes of interest:
Ollie speaking to Jake and Jake sounding off about friendship found on p 113
"Pardon me for not agreeing."
"You don't need my pardon," Jake said. "But you're my friend, and friends tell each other the truth. I'm asking you, Ollie, take your focus off the church and off the Christians you've known, and just look at Jesus. Read the Gospel of John, and judge Him by what He said and did, not by everybody who claims His name. Who did He claim to be? Investigate. Then make up your own mind about him. And stop assuming things as they appear."
Conversation between Ollie and Jake on justice found on p 231
". . . I do what I can to bring justice now. God seems to wait around a lot."
"He says He waits and withholds judgment to give us time to repent and get our lives right with Him," Jake said, "Justice has been restrained. What you're mad at God about--that He's been withholding judgment--is what`s kept us all alive, giving us opportunity to repent and accept His grace."
On p 408 Alcorn shares a conversation between Carly, a girl who died of cancer, in heaven, with the Carpenter, (also referred to as Lord, the One, and Elyon in other conversations with other deceased characters in heaven):
"There's so much confusion and deception there," Carly said. "Why can't they see things as they really are?"
"For the same reason that so often, when you lived there, you didn't," the Carpenter said. ""There's a veil of blindness over that dark world. It goes far deeper than you realized."
"It's insanity," she said.
"They long for light, but hate it because it hurts their eyes. They prefer the comfort of darkness to the pain of sight."
Carly walked beside the Carpenter . . . "They complain about evil and suffering," the Carpenter said, "yet commit acts of evil and inflict suffering on others and themselves. They ignore My warnings, then wonder why I permit what they choose."
"I'm amazed at Your patience, Lord."
"Earth under the curse is about to end. The day of judgment, and of deliverance, draws near. Justice comes as surely as sunrise--the question is which of them will be ready for it."
Ollie writing about a conversation with Kendra, his daughter, about the death of her mother found on p 476-77
"And when Kendra told me how angry she was that her mom had been taken, I said I understood and felt the same way. But maybe, I said, we couldn't own her any more than you can own a comet or a sunset or fresh rain on a dry dusty day. You're glad to experience them, they make you happy, but when they're gone, instead of feeling mad, maybe you should just be grateful they were there for you in the first place."
Good detective work is about observing the evidence and following it to its conclusion. On p 195, Jake is talking to Ollie about faith and because Ollie is a good detective Ollie thinks he should be able to follow the evidence to the truth about Jesus, and Christianity.
"My point is, faith shouldn't be about what suits our tastes, but about the truth the evidence points to."
This was my first time reading a book by Alcorn but it will not be my last, he is an excellent writer, the turns and circles in thinking throuout the book are complex but enjoyable to work out.
If you are debating and wondering is it worth buying: YES GET IT!
Real Life Questions.......2007-09-10
Randy Alcorn used this book to tackle some tough questions. I love it when a Christian author doesn't back away from real life issues and doesn't offer pat answers. Mr. Alcorn takes an honest look at the problems of suicide, deceipt, when a loved one dies, bitterness, dealing with family problems you may have created yourself, etc.
All together? It was a great read with powerful insight into the questions we all face.
An unputdownable novel from Randy Alcorn.......2007-08-13
Randy departed a bit from his usual fiction-writing style in the writing of "Deception," which is yet another spinoff of "Deadline"(Randy doesn't call them sequels or a series.) He wrote Deception from the first person--from the point of view of hardened, cynical police detective Ollie Chandler.
The story begins grippingly, as Ollie arrives on the scene of a murder that portends a lot of troubling questions for him personally.
From that point on, the story doesn't let you go. As a reviewer once said about a book, and I'm paraphrasing, "Don't plan on doing much else while you're reading this book."
It's to Randy Alcorn's credit that we ended up liking the character of Ollie Chandler very much. Randy told me in a radio interview that he took pains to make the hardbitten, skeptical, world-weary cop a lovable character...and most of that had to do with giving him a terrific sense of humor.
"I did labor to make Ollie likable...and part of that is his sense of humor. I think that's so important, because if you're going to spend an entire book inside of someone's head, so to speak...it's important that they have flaws, that's part of what makes the conflict that makes the story work...BUT, they've got to be, in some respects, likable."
Thanks to Randy spending many hours hanging out with, and picking the brains of, real-life police detectives, "Deception" has the unmistakable ring of authenticity.
The book does have the occasional glimpses into heaven, and there are conversations among Ollie and his two Christian friends that delve into issues like atheism and apologetics. But unlike "Deadline" and "Dominion," the book doesn't often depart from the main story--the mystery that's propelling the plot forward.
And the best news for people who love the character of Ollie? Randy Alcorn is probably not done with him. Randy told me,
"After each of my previous six novels, I have had no inclination whatsoever to repeat someone in the role of the viewpoint character. Now, in a couple of cases I've done a spinoff, where Dominion is a spinoff of Deadline. Jake Woods, the main character in Deadline appears in Dominion, but he's in a secondary role--the main character is Clarence Abernathy, who was in a minor role in Deadline. Ollie was in both of those. This was kind of Ollie's turn, and Clarence and Jake are in support roles to him...BUT when I fnished the book this time, for the first time I thought, 'You know, I'm not done with this character.'"
best novel ever read........2007-08-10
I am a Randy Alcorn fan, but I also have read terrific amount of books by other authors. This book Deception, by Randy Alcorn ranks number one. It is a fantastic book with or without its counter part books, Deadline and Dominion.

trivial content.......2006-02-05
When reading a book/article written by professors, a reader is looking for content with deep thought. Obviously, this book does not belong to this category. It simply gathers some commone-sense tips and rephrases them, which any internet user can google them in a few hours.
The title is also misleading. There is no way one can become a star perfomer by just following those tips. Call it "become a good performer" might be more accurate.
Pathway to infallible Leadership.......2006-01-17
The Fords have apparently taken every great course known to man and woman on producing results. They've listed all the tips I've ever heard of and then some. I'm 68 years old and very productive and it was valuable for me to read about some of the things I've learned along the way and then stopped using or forgot. The book is a real contribution to me.
Each of these tips could forward a project manager. It would be a dream for any of us to work for or with a person that practiced at least half of these distinctions.
I intend to give the book to many of my financial planning clients as value added. This is a winner!

85 Tips to a bettter career and personal life..........2006-01-16
This book is an excellent tool that will improve your effectiveness, not only in your career, but with anyone you come in contact with in your personal life. It is a quick and easy read, but packed full of meaningful pointers.
In my past 10 years in the corporate world, I have found that while many of these tips may seem to be common sense, very few people practice them. The correct way to describe these pointers would be that they all make great sense, but are far from common in the workplace.
As I continue to advance in my career, this book will remain close to me as a reference and I will continue to encourage my colleagues and direct reports to utilize the tips. You are probably already doing some of them and the others will take some time to master, but are broken into easy to understand tips, so practicing 2 or 3 a week is easy.
I am a great fan of Ford and Ford and promise that you won't be dissatisfied with this book.
Victim or author.......2006-01-11
I really enjoyed the core message of this book. While the deadline busting practices are simple and direct, they are not limited to meeting deadlines. They could be thought of a a great philosphy for managing life. And they're not recommendations for those committed to living life as circumstantial and overwhelming - a victim's view.
If you're committed to living life as an invention, resulting in differences made and promises honored, this book lays out a set of principles by which to navigate. Were this the typical operating mode of our companies, the world would be a very different place indeed.
Our individual ability to produce goes with us from job to job throughout our careers. If we master the principles offered in this book throughout that journey we will indeed author extraordinary results and enjoy real success and admiration.
Dare to be different.......2006-01-09
This is an excellent read for someone at any level of their career. I had the good fortune to read and practice many of the tips and guidance provided throughout the book at an early stage in my career. It has had a profoundly positive impact on my abilty to execute in the work place and excel at a level I had not known possible.
Not only does the book teach very practical skills and tactics regarding the art of execution, but it also challenges the reader to take a personal look at his or her committment to being responsible and accountable. Many people wallow through a work day or career "thinking" they are doing the right things to be effective at work. Deadline Busting is not time management, it is not Organization 101, nor is it the feel-good story of the week; it is a combination of very real, hard skills put into one source - it is what real work is all about. Ultimately the book teaches the reader that it is alone the level of committment and personal responsibility that one applies to these daily activities that truly impacts a person's abilty to perform, have inlfuence and maintain integrity in his or her organization or personal life. Dare to be different than the person sitting next to you at work, dare to take responsibilty for yourself, dare to get out of your comfort zone and really DO something about your career.

Thanks for the Dreams.......2005-11-07
I was quite impressed with the audio CD. I am a big fan of books on cd. I simply copy them onto my ipod & begin taking a long walk or whatever. Mark Hansen has many wonderful tales & everything was perfect. I cannot name one thing in the audio cd that i didn't like. Sometimes people learn better by hearing stories of other successful people & when he told tales of Ross Perot or Lee Iacoca, I listened. Thank you for the wonderful cd, it came with 6 disks in all & I must add, he packed a big punch. If you don't get the message in this book then you obviously don't understand the concept. I've now changed my outlook & decided that dreams don't have deadlines. I'll continue on & know that I'll reach my destiny.
It's never too late .......2005-04-16
I have not listened to other works by Hansen. I knew that this audio set had something in it for me and that message was that our lives our available to be lived at 100% no matter what age you are and what your past has held. There is no "too old" or "too late." It's all about how you look at life. I felt renewed after listening to this set and realized that I had to bring some things back to life and set out on some new adventures.
Hopeful - but ultimately disappointed.......2004-11-18
I am a big fan of Mark Victor Hansen and have always been impressed with his results. This is a man who has built a publishing empire, and who is filled with ideas and new projects. I've enjoyed many of his other books and was hopeful about finally hearing an audio from him. Unfortunately I was disappointed with this effort. Although the audio book contains some inspiring thoughts and Hansen is certainly enthusisastic, I found his presentation somewhat disorganized, and there was no clear order or description of where this program was going. Mark Victor Hansen seemed to be speaking much of the time "off of the cuff" and the presentation frequently rambled before he returned to the point he was trying to make. I must say I was not very motivated. If success and self improvement is in your blood, this audio is worth a shot, but I would try the library before you invest.
