Book Description
Between the reality of being six weeks pregnant by a guy she's dated for two months and the fantasy of pushing a baby stroller down Columbus Avenue with a wedding ring on her finger were a lot of possibilities for twenty-nine-year old Manhattan publishing peon Sarah Solomon. Will the baby's father run screaming for the nearest subway . . . or pop the question?
"He's going to deny they ever had sex!" bets cynical sister Ally, an uptown lawyer who catches her "perfect" husband cheating . . . and happily retaliates on FindAMate.com.
"He might surprise everyone and propose," offers half sister Zoe, a celebrated relationship guru who critiques dates for a living but would have to rate her own love life a big fat zero.
"Huh?" asks their clueless father, too busy planning his society wedding to trophy wife #3 to notice what's up with his daughters. Until Sarah, Ally and Zoe find themselves suddenly sharing a bedroom in his Park Avenue penthouse . . . . "
And thanks to a little help from each other and some unexpected allies, the Solomon sisters are about to wise up in this heartwarming and hilarious novel by Melissa Senate, author of See Jane Date
Customer Reviews:
If you have sisters, this is the book for you........2007-07-30
A great tale about 3 sisters who barely know each other coming together in their greatest time of need. As each sister faces a lifechanging event, they find themselve turning to the most unlikely shoulder to cry on... each other. Witty and heartwarming, definitely something pass along from sister to sister.
Fluff.......2007-07-10
Fluff, but readable. Predictable, too. How many trite story lines can we gather here? How can everything end happy happy happy? Good beach read but eminently forgettable.
Of course it will have a perfect ending .......2007-02-27
Ally, Sarah and Zoe are the Solomon Sisters. Three sister that are facing major changes in their lives. Ally just found out that her husband is cheating on her. Sarah is pregnant with child from her second date and Zoe the "Dating Diva" finds herself with a man. Now the three sister are sharing a room in their Dad's penthouse while he get ready to marry one of Zoe's ex-friends.
While I enjoyed the "The Soloman Siters Wise Up" by Melissa Senate.I thouhgt that the ending made everything just a little to perfect. Maybe that why I had out grew "chick-lit."
Chick lit, but the best of the bunch!.......2007-02-03
Simply put, this is one of the best chick-lit books out there -- fun, sweet, romantic, and suspensful, and with a happy ending, but without being ridiculous or too silly to take seriously or to relate to. And Melissa Senate is one of the best authors that Red Dress Ink has ever published.
Controversial Topics Taken On With Style.......2006-12-20
Pros: I have to give this writer credit for taking on some really controversial topics and somehow managing to make them not so intense (ex. stepmothers who practice favoritism, unattentive fathers, potential deadbeat dads, abortion, pregnancy in singlehood, adultery, commitment phobia, divorce, plastic surgery, etc.) Senate hit on quite a few topics that are happening repeatedly in today's world but brushed under the rug. She picked strong characters to lead the tale in discussing these topics and I stayed interested throughout. I was the most entertained by Zoe's high school friend, but I liked Griffin because he was so realistic in regards to how many men view fatherhood these days. I was relieved with Zoe's decision at the apartment with Griffin; I'd have done the exact same thing if the tables were turned, otherwise it's settling. It was interesting to me how Ally went out with a friend for plastic surgery shots, and the stepmother she hated was doing the same thing. Maybe they hated each other because they'd somehow grown so much alike, but I wish I'd have known what Giselle did that was so terrible. Background stories would've been nice there. These Red Ink books are blowing me with the blonde hair blue eyes emphasizing, but I was pleasantly surprised when somebody overweight and somebody with brown eyes was mentioned. Acid came back to be a jerk and I was tickled by her reactions to the pregnancy article and the dating article. She is a piece of work! My favorite spot in the whole book was when Ally sang to herself the "It's my birthday/I'll have sex if I want to" song. I'm still giggling about that. Once again, Senate's humor has me hooked.
Cons: Not much. I liked the book throughout, even though I still don't understand this blue eye deal.

Let go, let flow........2007-03-24
I have literally read this book 4 times and each time I re-read it I gain new insight into my life. A good gift for any girlfriend and or teenager going through life's difficulties.
A book every young lady should have.......2005-09-23
This had everything from poetry to insight and it was all spoken from real life experiences the author lived through. Like another reviewer said, all the topics was followed by a summary that showed a outline of the main points. This book was informative and inspirational and gives teenage girls the best advice they could ever have, to love themselves before they can love others.
Live and Learn.......2005-08-11
Natasha Munson's book Life Lessons for My Sisters is a compilation of poetry, insight, and lessons based on the author's real life experiences. Munson describes in a unique, yet simplistic manner how to succeed in life and in love with an emphasis put on first knowing and loving one's self. I enjoyed that each point was often enhanced by a poem and after each topic, there was a summary to show the main points.
Life Lessons for My Sisters tackles all aspects of life in an informative and inspirational manner. Although the book seems to be geared toward a teenage/young adult audience, it contains information that women of all ages need to heed. I highly recommend this book for any girl or woman who needs guidance or positive affirmations in their lives.

Book Description
A treasury of timeless wisdom that the great author of War and Peace considered to be his most important and lasting contribution to humanity. During the last years of his life, Leo Tolstoy kept one book invariably on his desk, read and reread it to his family, and recommended it to all his friends. This was his compendium of wise thoughts gathered over the course of a decade from his wide-ranging readings in philosophy and religion and from his own spiritual meditations. It was banned under the communists, and only one volume, A Calendar of Wisdom, drawn largely from the writings of other famous thinkers, has been published before in English. Now, for the first time, Arcade will publish Tolstoys Wise Thoughts for Every Day, the volume comprising his own most essential ideas about spirituality and what it is to live a good life. Designed by Tolstoy to be a cycle of daily readings, this book offers thoughts and aphorisms for every day according to a succession of themes repeated each monthsuch as God, the soul, desire, our passions, humility, inequality, evil, truth, happiness, prayer, and the blessings of love. At once challenging, comforting, and inspiring, this is a spiritual treasure trove and a book of great human warmth.
Customer Reviews:
When wisdom escapes you might find it here:.......2007-01-11
Tolstoy's words resonate among those who have suffered and sought truth within the human condition. He has a way of pulling hope from the cruelest times and peace in dashing the sorrow when we think we suffer alone.
Wisdom that changes its reader.......2006-03-29
I had the fortunate job of proof reading and minor editing of this book, for translater Peter Sekerin. As I spent the many hours doing so, I found that Tolstoy's thoughts and wisdom, as you continue to read him over and over, almost permeates your thoguhts and come to mind as you go through out your day. He was a very wise and learned man, but also a very practical one. This project in its entirety are the deep thoughts of a man willing to be changed by his God, who examined and reflected thoughtfully on the world around him. In Tolstoy's footsteps, I find Peter Sekerin on a similar journey. He was and is the right man to take on this book. May you be blessed as you read Tolstoy's writings as rediscovered and presented by Peter Sekirin.
Surprises me with its excellence!.......2006-01-10
Every once in a while a book comes along which surprises me with its excellence. Well, this is definitely one of those books. When I first held the book, I could tell that the quality was high - the book has a hardcover and feels like it is quite well made.
But, it really shows how great it is when you open it up! The book is indeed a treasury of wisdom, showing just why Leo Tolstoy is considered one of the greatest men of letters that ever lived. Each day has its own page, in which is included Tolstoy's thought for the day. Each month follows the same rhythm, moving from theme to theme in a stately march.
Overall, I must say that this is a great book, with a gentle wisdom presented in a brief and yet powerful manner. It is a shame that the Communists suppressed this book, as it really is a great work of Western (Russian) literature, and a great daily devotional.
I give this book my highest recommendations!
A necessary book for anyone reflecting on what makes life meaningful.......2006-01-09
Tolstoy's Wise Thoughts for Every Day differs from his other works such as A Calendar of Wisdom written in the last ten years of his life, in that in this book nearly all of the passages are from Tolstoy himself, rather than taken from other texts or people, so we really and truly get an idea on Tolstoy's view of life and how it should be lived. Each day has a subject (such as God, Faith, Pride, One Soul in All) around which the thoughts revolve, with the subjects repeating each month.
While this book is, for all intents and purposes, a book of spiritual writing, it is also a work which anyone could easily pick up and read, as the thoughts are philosophical in nature as well, making this work first and foremost a composition on how to live a good life. That was the goal of Tolstoy in the latter part of his life when he spent copious amounts of time writing these books- to make them accessible to anyone and to help them improve their lives. He believed the only true religion is the one which all people can share.....and for this to happen it has to be simple, and not complicated by arbitrary or overly complex rules. Like all of Tolstoy's great writings, this work shows most strikingly his thorough understanding of the nuances of human character, and the flaws which lie within. Whether one agrees or disagrees with what is contained within Wise Thoughts for Every Day, one cannot help but be taken aback by Tolstoy's grasp of the deficiencies and imperfections innate in mankind.....and also the vast potential for good.
One of the great achievements of this book is the fact that Tolstoy is giving us information on how to live our lives while in the final years of his own. There is a very nice description of the last works of Tolstoy's life in the front pages of the book, allowing us to see his works chronicled in the final ten years leading up to his death, something heretofore I had not seen in such detail. Tolstoy's early years were devoted to creating timeless classics such as War and Peace and Anna Karenina. The latter part of his life was devoted to and consisted entirely of spiritual works after his religious awakening. These included both spiritual/fictional short stories and non-fiction works such as this, after his near suicide at the age of 51. The latter works of his life do not receive the notoriety they deserve, at a time when the world needs such ideas desperately.
When one has a toothache, one goes to the dentist to have it tended to. When one wants a greater understanding of life and of our place in the universe, one can pick up Wise Thoughts to read. As Tolstoy has said innumerable times, the ideas contained in this book are imprinted on our hearts if only we would listen to our soul. Speaking for myself though, from time to time it is nice to have someone make them clear for us. In this regard, Tolstoy does this most impressively, creating a book which is apposite to anyone deliberating on the meaning of life.
A must have for all lovers of Leo Tolstoy's non-fiction writing.
Highly Recommended.
A fine pocket-sized book which will make for an excellent gift for any Tolstoy reader.......2006-01-03
Wise Thoughts For Every Day: On God, Love, Spirit, And Living A Good Life appears for the first time in English, with a translation by Peter Sekirin, and provides Tolstoy's daily reflections in a fine pocket-sized book which will make for an excellent gift for any Tolstoy reader. From living in the present to reflections on evil and the afterlife, Wise Thoughts For Every Day is a fine inspirational.

Customer Reviews:
Rollercoaster, angst filled thriller.......2006-06-26
What a knockout surprise from this romance author. I was expecting another terrific, heartfelt, beyond compare loving romance. I prefer romances to thrillers but I picked this up and didn't put it down until the last page.
This book is not for the squeamish. It deals with the horrors of hideously violent child abuse. I am glad it was a quick read as I couldn't take much more pain.
As a nice leveler the reader is treated to wonderful people working to stop the criminal. The two main characters are an absolute joy. From the first chapter the reader is drawn into the lives of Miranda, a 35 year old child psychologist dedicated to her craft, and Mason a career police detective anxious to put a stop to the crimes. Mason and Miranda are welcome contrast to the horrors of the crimes, they lighten what would be a very dark story.
This is the best edited novel from this author to date. I already look forward to reading this author's next novel and hope it is a romance as no one writes such positive and loving characters.

Totally unresearched but reallly good pictures........1999-07-08
Nick Wise obviously did no research for this book. He got the wrong year of her birthdate, and he spelled one of her last names wrong. It was totally lame. The only reason it gets any stars is because the pictures are beautiful and it's Courtney at her best.
tons of cool pictures!.......1999-04-10
as in terms of the information... well... if you already know alot about courtney, you ll most likely find nothing new. there are alot of great quotes though. the pictures, on the other hand, are fabulous. and are pretty rare too. i would seriously consider picking up this book if you like to collect pics of courtney and hole. if u just wanna good read, i d reconsider and go buy courtney love queen of noise by melissa rossi. another good simmilar book is look through this by susan wilson, its even bigger and has even more fabulous rare pics of ms love and hole..... if u love your courtney pics get the book.....
Outstandingly precise!.......1999-01-17
Nick Wise has captured Courtney's life beautifully. This is definitely the most accurate biography about her.
Great book to have if you're a Courtney fan!.......1998-06-07
This book is really good and it has lots of color pictures of Courtney looking her best. It's also interesting to read with quotes by Courtney and her band members. I highly recommend this book!

HELPFUL ADVICE!!.......2001-02-13
This excellent book is not only easy to read AND to understand, but also it made me feel as if the author had been a fly on my wall for years. Dr. Frain has obviously seen it all as is evidenced by her insight into problems that I thought were so specific to my situation.
The techniques outlined in this book were literally my roadmap back to my daughter who had been estranged from me for too many painful years, years without seeing my daughter or my wonderful grandchildren. By completing the written exercises in the book, I realized how much that times have changed. I was so much more able to understand how "it got to this". I got a bigger picture of my own family history, and also a better idea of how cultural changes put so much pressure on my daughters.
I learned a lot about my own fears, too, through this book and all its valuable exercises. In fact, that is what gave me the understanding and the strength to honor my daughter's needs without feeling like I was selling myself out. I was fearful mainly because I just did not understand the changes - not because I was wrong or that my daughter was wrong. That was a big hump to get over for me, but by doing so, I NOW HAVE MY DAUGHTER AND GRANDCHILDREN BACK!!
a valuable guide for parents AND "adult children".......1999-11-04
I purchased this book because I am the parent of a young adult and interested in the guidance this title promised. It was all I had hoped for...and more! This book is well written, practical, and insightful. Family vignettes and personal exercises throughout the book enhance its step by step approach by fostering practical application of the suggestions. An unanticipated bonus is that it served me equally well as an "adult child" , offering perspectives and actions that afforded me the opportunity to enrich my relationship with my own parents. I have given and recommended this book to many family members and friends. Frain and Clegg have made a wonderful contribution!
Wonderful, insightful focus of a neglected area........1999-09-27
It is evident that the authors are experienced, intelligent, loving, and insighful. It is such a joy to read about subjects that are long neglected in our society. Thank you Betty and Eileen!
Superb, psychologically sound guide to a common problem.......1999-09-26
The authors have done their homework. This is an easy to read yet psychologically sophisticated treatise on a common problem without the jargon and pathologizing. As a clinical psychologist, I can highly recomment this book to all. Baby boomers caught in the dual role of being both a parent to and a child of an adult should find this guide especially helpful.

Book Description
Everyone knows Jamie-Lynn Sigler as Meadow Soprano on the HBO hit television series The Sopranos. But there's so much more to her, as her candid, outspoken autobiography proves. In Wise Girl, Jamie-Lynn reveals both the perks and the pressures that have come with fame, and how uncertain, fearful times have made her stronger, more confident, and able to face life's challenges. Writing openly and from the heart, she describes the emotional and physical toll taken when Lyme disease left the healthy 19-year-old paralyzed at the height of The Soprano's popularity; an obsession with her weight that nearly destroyed her career; and the dark side of overnight success. Her story will both surprise and inspire you. For this wise girl, the key to success isn't just what's on the outside -- it's using your brains, going with your gut, and learning from your experiences, including the mistakes, every day.
Customer Reviews:
Interesting but not about Eating Disorders.......2007-09-10
This book was very eye opening into Jamie's life however only a small section was devoted to eating disorders. For an ED book, it was pretty small. But as far as a book into Jamie's experiences it was good and interesting. It really humanized Jamie.
A GOOD, EASY READ.......2005-12-26
If you are interested in learning about a person's experience with an eating disorder, AND you're interested in celebrity writing, this is a very good, easy read. The star of "The Sopranos" tells how she developed an eating disorder and then worked to overcome it. It also documents her experience in the arts, so, really, this book is for someone interested in both. If you're ONLY wanting to know in-depth information about eating disorders, you will want to find a different book. If, however, you like theatre and acting as well as learning about anorexia or bulimia, this is the book for you.
Great read.......2005-10-22
This was an eye-opening book. It's always interesting to see that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Just because Jamie-Lynn is pretty and famous and wealthy etc, doesn't mean she doesn't have her own share of problems. It was kind of scary to read about how hard she'd exercise in order to stay in shape (because of all the pressure she felt from everyone), and the lengths she went to to keep this secretive. She talks about her life growing up, now working in a hit TV show, a few health problems here and there and toward the end of the book, she has a section dealing with how to get help if you or someone you know has an eating disorder. Overall, I'd say this is a good interesting read that is easy to get through, but helpful for the younger girls out there who may fall into the trap of extreme dieting or exercise because of today's pressure to look a certain way. Good job Jamie-Lynn.
This is an important and enjoyable book for young women........2004-07-27
Sopranos star Jamie-Lynn Sigler has experienced more in her life than many people twice her age, including severe anorexia, paralysis from Lyme's Disease and extreme career changes. This book contains fun backstage tidbits about The Sopranos and the recording business, in addition to valuable insights about the many pressures of normal teen life.
Sigler is honest about her mistakes and discusses ways to help other young people avoid image problems. She even revealed that Sopranos producers were secretly auditioning other girls for her part as Meadow because she was so thin. Instead of using her fame to write a fluffy celebrity tell-all, Sigler is eager to have her written experiences help promote the National Eating Disorder Association, for which she is now a spokesperson.
Pictures that show Sigler in the worst stages of anorexia are powerful. The description of her secret 2 1/2 hour daily exercise routine is vivid, but the before and after pictures reinforce everything. A valuable chapter at the end also advises readers on the warning signs of anorexia and how to get help.
This is an important and enjoyable book for young women to read. Sigler's voice is refreshingly conversational, but a good editor should have helped her smooth over some of the language to do justice to the heartfelt topics she discusses. I hope she will continue to write, as she has a lot to share with readers.

Book Description
Experience the miracle called love...
What is the purpose of love? Is the storm of ecstasy that we call love simply a biological urge that eventually passes--or the first stage in something much more? Is it possible for love to last, literally, forever?
In this extraordinary book, philosopher Jacob Needleman explores the greatest works of philosophy, myth, and sacred wisdom to offer a bold new interpretation of why two people are brought together in the first place. The radiant poetry of the great Sufi mystic Rumi, the revelations of St. Paul, the moving tale of Philemon and Baucis, and the words of the world's sages become, with Needleman's gentle guidance, an enthralling journey of discovery--one that reveals the secret to finding love...and staying together for a lifetime. Resonating with hope and wisdom,
A Little Book on Love shows us how true love can transcend time and the difficulties of daily life. It is a precious resource for anyone who wants a relationship to last a lifetime--and beyond.

A Little Book on Love by Jacob Needleman (paperbk).......2001-07-01
This wise guide to love by Jacob Needleman is compact excellence; displaying a freedom and flow of language and idea. He moves forward from the present vernacular and modern mind-set and back to the classics and ancients with ease, all the while engendering a sense of deep exploration and gradual, seemingly simple common-sense Ah-ha's. My ex-Christian Reformed (ex-girl) friend thought it all resembled basic biblical principles, and therefore just turned off. It just shows you the danger of new wine in old bottles syndrome by know-it-all skimmers. True, the book doesn't do much more than inspire us to realize that we need to do A NEXT CONSCIOUS STEP of inner work on ourselves. However, for anyone who doesn't read further from Needleman bibliographic recommendations will never have a clue about the EXACTING nature of the FURHTER STEPS in the journey past the RELATIONSHIP CROSSROADS of LOVE (which would be way too difficult for most moderns to extract using their backgrgound to find Bible-base correlates & language). Just trying to "be a better more loving person" is the most common thinking of self deception today. Nobody that I've met in general society even has a working definition of Love that even approaches M.Scott Peck's definition (Road Less Travelled). And thats another book that I loan out a lot. Also, in a longer also exhilarating exploratory manner is Needleman's "Money & the Meaning of Life." A little more difficult is his book on "Time and the Soul."

A valiant attempt to communicate that which is hidden.......2000-07-03
I've read this book twice, and I've bought it four times. The first time I read it, I thought it was great and heartily agreed with the concept of love being work.
After a little growing up prompted by a lot of suffering, I reread it, and now realize I barely read it the first time. Yes, love benefits greatly from working on and with it, but I'd totally missed the other, more fundamental points of the book-that we we love the search, the struggle for understanding of 'life beyond life', in each other, the duality of love (selfish versus selfless), and the idea that what we identify as love in contemporary culture may only be passion, need, desire, and egoism.
I'm humbled enough to realize I can benefit from reading this book, with more of my attention, in times of suffering and times of joy, throughout the rest of my life.
Oh, and I keep buying it so often because I keep giving it away...I suspect there's no open human who cannot benefit from reading this book.
A gem - it's proving to be a big help in our relationship........1999-02-24
When I read the review of the Ohio person, I thought the person was a nut. But it got my curiosity up, so I bought the book. Wow, am I glad I did! I was afraid it would be too "religious" and I'm not a religious person, but it just uses different teachings to show, "Hey look - they all tell you this!" What they tell you is good horse-sense stuff that really works. I was having problems in my relationship, but now things are turning around for us. Just make sure your "significant other" reads the book too! This is a wonderful book, no kidding. But the Ohio person is still probably a "nut" - one you should listen to in this case!
Needleman is the Einstein of practical wisdom- this is proof.......1999-02-02
There are plenty of brilliant people in the world today, but if someone speaks of "wise men" we immediately think of ancient history. They seem to have somehow dissappeared after three of them followed the Christmas star. Don't believe it. As long as Jacob Needleman is alive, there are wise men in the world today. Needleman is the Einstein of practical wisdom - this book is ample proof. If you want more proof, try some of his other books, such as Time and the Soul. Both of these have utility beyond anything in self-help books, which are too shallow and superficial. In contrast, this is the most important book on love to appear this century. Is your love life a mess? For far less money than therapy, this book will show you a clear vision behind it and path to resolving it. In fact, Needleman understands some very important points modern psychology has missed. And the book is for a universal audience with any background or belief system. Needleman gives the indisputable answer to the question of whether or not love can be, or made to be, of life-long endurance. Now that this book exists, the question need never again be raised. Just hand the questioner this book. Be sure to order plenty - by the time you have read the first four chapters, half the names on your Christmas list will be scheduled to receive a copy.

WOW....IF YOUR THINKING OF SHACKING UP ....DON'T DO IT!.......2004-07-09
I found this book really blunt. It is written in a really symplistic way (easy to read). There are some really insightful points, a different way of looking at it...if you will. Honestly, it did make me see "shacking up" in a whole different light. I liked it....but wouldn't give it a five (but then again I'm not doing it) (and wouldn't for sure now) So I guess the book does work after all!
Shacking up 40 reasons why not to.......2004-07-07
I just have to say one thing. This woman is really brave! It's about time this book was written by a woman who put herself on the line about her choosing to shack up and then to tell the world she was doing it! Nobody wants to look bad in front of others but she doesn't care how she looks, she just wants to help other's from choosing this really painful lifestyle! I couldn't have done it, that's for sure. She totally condems herself for doing it! How many of us would talk about our private lives to the world and risk the ridicule that would come from others? No one that I know of! I sure as heck wouldn't. I could see where some people would take offense to it because she's so straight forward about her opinion but she scolds herself while telling others how bad it is for their well being! How brilliant is that I must add! Anyway, I loved the book, there were so many points that I never even thought of! Read it if your shacking up, it's an eye opener. By the way I would never shack up after reading it!
A one time psychology session for only $26!.......2004-06-29
I am so glad that I heard about this book! I have been to hundreds of pyschology sessions at a whoping $150 an hour! My problems were with the man I was shacking up with for 10 years! Anxiety is what I was feeling but couldn't put my finger on it. When I got a hold of the book it answered so many questions I had and more!! After reading it ( I finished it in 6 hours)the next night when my "friend" came home from work (late as always with an exuse) I told him he was moving out on the weekend. That it was over and I actually felt empowered instead of cowaring and weak! I just have to say to the author THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HARD WORK. I feel so proud of myself and happier than I thought I could EVER be because of your experience. I am telling ALL my girlfriends (there are 8 of them living together) to get this book AND to keep it in plain view for their honey's to see. Wow, you talk about being liberated! I am and I'm loving it!
