Changed my life.......2007-05-11
These books have changed my life. Multi year chronic back pain is gone. Clair Davies summarized these medical books in very easy to understand terminology in his book "trigger point therapy workbook". Massaging the painfull trigger points has helped me so much.
Trigger point mania.......2006-07-24
I love this book I have had a chance to use it a lot in my practice. It has tons of great information, be prepared a long read it is a medical manual so to speak and it can be a little on the long side, but if your up for it, It is a fantastic asset...
Excellent text.......2004-04-17
I found the information quite thorough. It is written in a user-friendly way, easy to understand. I bought this book because it was listed as a reference for the chiropractic practice part 2 exam. This book helped me with the locations of the trigger points. Sometimes the chiro boards like to ask questions on trigger points. However, Leonardi's book: National Board of Chiropractic Part II Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers and National Board of Chiropractic Part III Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations are excellent for board exam preparation. These three books are needed for the part II and Part III of the boards.
The ultimate in drug-free pain relief!.......2001-01-25
As a Clinical Massage Therapist at a hospital, I use these books almost daily. In fact, I just ordered my second set. . . The first is so threadbare it's barely usable. ANYTIME I have a patient with a pain that I can't immediately identify I grab my Travell's. This set is an absolute BIBLE for anyone in the health care industry. Travell and Simons have esentially written "The Instruction Manual" for elliminating myofascial pain by going to it's source!
Janet Travell, MD and David Simons, MD were absolute pioneers when it came to myofascial pain and it's treatment. What makes these books even more amazing is that they were written a full quarter of a century before doctors even acknowledged that myofascial pain actually exsisted. . . What makes them interesting is that, in this, the most current edition, they have re-evaluated about 65% of the sites that before would only be considered for cortizone or saline injection and now recommend these areas be attended to by a Massage Therapist. They even go into strong detail as to stroke, direction and stretching. There are still plenty of sites that they recommend for injection, but only in a last resort situation.
The chapters are laid out in an incredibly easy to understand manner, though that's not even the beauty of the book's design. If you know the name of the muscle in question, you simply look inside the front cover; the muscle are all listed with their coresponding page numbers next to them. Don't know the name or not sure which muscle it is in the group? No problem. You again open the front cover and there, in 5th grade simplicity, are charts for all the areas covered in the book. Flip to the area in question and look through the diagrams. When you find (in the super well drawn diagrams) the pain you are trying to treat, you are given, not only several treatment plans, but etiology and most likely direct verve aggravation associated with the pain.
My only problem with the set is that the book are not as well bound as maybe they could be for the price. You'll notice, however, that it didn't have enough of an impact on me to give it any less that a perfect score.
I STRONGLY recommend this book for ANY health care practitioner that deals with pain control and alleviation.
A Tour de Force.......2000-11-02
Janet Travell MD and David Simons MD spent a lifetime studying the patterns and treatment of muscular and soft tissue pain in patients. It is a specialty in itself, and provides an amazingly detailed review of anatomy. These books are the bible on the subject written by the "mother" and "father" of the specialty. There will hardly be a day in the professional life of a busy primary care practitioner, rheumatologist, orthopedist, neurologist, physiatrist or physical therapist when these books will not be used. The more one knows of this field, the more revelations one gets into those difficult chronic pain patients. The etiology and muscular complexity of the huge field of "tension headache" syndromes now become clear. With these books you will have the tools to diagnose and treat effectively (usually dramatically) the entire spectrum of myofascial pain from head to toe, muscle by muscle. Why do so few physicians know of this vital area of medicine?

Highly recommended.......2007-07-17
For clinicians who are looking to obtain immediate clinical results this text will afford you the opportunity to do just that. A great reference to have in any clinic. This book has improved my knowledge about common locations for trigger points and has enhanced my understanding of how to go about properly identifying, treating, and preventing recurrence of myofascial pain.
Not advisable for massage students!.......2006-12-29
Unless you are a doctor, chiropractor, or clinician, this book is NOT for you. Especially if you are a student of massage therapy. The blocky, often illegible graphics, along with extremely compacted information will confuse rather than help someone who is new to trigger point and myofascial therapy. The compact and highly technical information is only good if you have a really strong background in medical terminology. Students, I suggest looking for a different book.
You will also find that the pages in this book easily fall out, and there are a LOT of mistakes in the review questions (they often give you the wrong answer in the answer key). Please consider buying another book.
Informative!.......2006-02-22
I love this book! It is not only for self help in trigger point therapy, but gives the certified massage therapist a lot of useful information in order to provide relief from trigger points when working with clients!
Better books out there.......2004-07-31
I had previously bought the book by Clair Davies which is excellent but I wanted more in-depth knowledge. Saw the reviews on this book and ordered it. The cost of the book was definitely not worth the extra information. This book was 3 times the cost of the Clair Davies book with only slightly more useful information. Save your money, buy the Clair Davies book. Or if you really want in-depth knowledge and price is not a factor, buy the 2 volume set by Travell and Simons.
In depth and informative course.......2002-05-22
This book has been very informative and I have gained a deeper knowledge of trigger point therapy. I would recommend this book and would like to purchase the video that accompanies this text.

Very Good .......2006-02-25
I enjoyed this book very much and thought it was very well written. A couple of the characters and the events in their lives could have been better developed, but overall it was a good book.
Hang on for the ride!.......2005-12-30
"The Point of Fracture" by Frank Turner Hollon is a smart book that happens to be a mystery. It can even be called a literary thriller. Its action and characters drew me in almost immediately, and I could hardly bear to set it down.
Michael Brace is 37 and lives in South Alabama with his gorgeous wife, Suzanne. The two share a bad, sad marriage. But to everyone who knows them, they seem perfect together. They are almost too good at acting happily married. Michael's kind of lazy and unmotivated. Suzanne has a lot of issues, including frequent, debilitating headaches that may be driven by the emotional pain from her father's abuse. But she is seeing a psychiatrist. So she's trying to get help, right? Then the lies begin. Suzanne is not a woman you will soon forget.
This is kind of an anti-love story. We see a crime from the first spark of an idea in the murderer's mind through its planning and step-by-step execution and then through the trial that follows. The meticulous murder is almost elegant in its completeness.
The book is insightful and eloquently written: "He thought, the souls of men are touched by different hands. They were meant to be strange to one another. It is this strangeness that can sometimes bring us together, at certain times, in certain places, for a certain purpose."
There are layers in the well-structured plot. It's very gripping, with no comic relief. The drama features a murder trial with a twist -- well, a couple of twists. It reminds me of a "Columbo" mystery in that we the "audience" know who did what and get to watch it unfold, but we're the only ones who know. It builds in intensity, and once it gets going, it's relentless. When you see where the book is taking you, it's all you can do to fasten your seat belts and hang on for the ride, and I doubt you'll see where it's going to end before the ride is over. And I won't even give you a HINT as to how it ends.
GREAT BOOK.......2005-10-31
Frank Turner Hollon is the best in the business, bar none. A commanding, accomplished novel by an author everyone needs to discover.
FLAWLESS.......2005-10-15
Absolutely flawless in every regard. Frank Turner Hollon knows the legal system like nobody's business and the plot of this book is to-the-bone good. Even the throw-aways are worth the price of admission: The Driver's Education scam is priceless and the little details just shine. His best yet, and that's saying a lot. This guy should be rich with this kind of talent.
An extremely well-written novel that will make Hollon a household name.......2005-09-28
I'm really not sure where to begin with THE POINT OF FRACTURE by Frank Turner Hollon, or even what to tell you. It is extremely well-written --- so well-written in fact that I had to basically set aside all of my other reading for a day or so because its prose was still echoing around in my head. It is also profoundly unsettling, not in an in-your-face manner but similar to what James Tiptree, Jr. so famously described as a pretty pink birthday cake with a razor blade inside.
The source of the unsettlement here is its characters, who are so true-to-life as to be painful. There's Michael Brace, a not-quite functioning alcoholic who lives in the shadow of his fabulously successful older brother Phillip and who is entangled in a strange, loveless marriage with the beautiful Suzanne. Suzanne is both truly mad and brilliantly mad, and she is also very angry; we never learn exactly why she is so angry, but the depth and extent of her insanity is slowly revealed during the first half of the book. Suzanne may be possessed of heartstopping beauty but her scars run deep below her surface. When she exacts revenge on those around her --- revenge against disappointment, perhaps, or their failure to make things better for her --- the repercussions echo and resonate far from Suzanne's epicenter.
We know from the first paragraph of THE POINT OF FRACTURE that all is not well, when we find out that Michael and Suzanne sleep apart as a matter of constant practice. As we learn more --- that Suzanne has severe headaches, and Michael spends A LOT of time drinking and fishing, watching television, and other such pursuits with friends he has known since childhood --- the elements of a disaster waiting to happen coalesce. Suzanne is a master manipulator, and is especially adept at using her beauty and dormant sensuality with a cold, detached and sinister twist. Her plan, even when it passes out of her control, unfolds perfectly, almost to the end. One element that she could not have anticipated changes the outcome of everything; yet one cannot walk away from this novel without feeling that Suzanne's plan may have been successfully carried through.
Frank Turner Hollon is not a household name as yet, though THE POINT OF FRACTURE may well change that for him. This is a work to be read, explored, and experienced repeatedly. Very highly recommended.

Not detailed enough.......2003-08-02
It only show a cursory glance at TP and referred pain patterns. Good to show patients an overview, but not detailed enough to really help everyone.
This book is a MUST for the professional soft tissue worker.......2000-10-12
As the office manager for a chiropractic clinic, I know how often the Doc references this book to demonstrate trigger points to patients. It has also proven to be an invaluable resource in court, as Doc is often called for expert medical testimony. This book is very clear and easy for the layperson to understand. I highly recommend!

From the author: Double yield points before necking were observed in injection molded specimens of poly(tetramethylene terephthalate) (PTMT) and its copolymers under tensile loading. The first yield is associated with deformation of the amorphous region and the second yield is caused by the alpha to beta transition of PTMT crystallites. The first yield point became less apparent with an increase of crystallinity of the specimens. The second yield point became more apparent with an increase of crystallinity. Annealing of injection molded specimens increased the crystallinity and increased the second yield point on stress-strain curves. Copolymerization decreased the crystallinity and made the first yield point more prominent. Effects of annealing on mechanical and thermal properties of the specimens were also measured. The specimens changed their properties from ductile to brittle during annealing. Their change during annealing was mainly attributed to the increase of crystallinity and not to thermal degradation and/or crosslinking.
