Book Description
The ability to wield typography is one of those things that is a clear indication of a talented designer. Being able to craft type well and thoughtfully takes a deep understanding of the inherent complexities and a keen eye for the minute and subtle details. This book contains a collection of 1,000 instances of thoughtful type usage along with credits that note what fonts were used in the design. Like its predecessor, 1,000 Graphic Elements, the photography in this book focuses in on the typography so readers can get an up-close look at the work.
1,000 Type Treatments showcases an array of fonts in a catalog-like format, making it easy for the working designer to practically shop for ideas. The book is organized by style so if a designer has a traditional, elegant, or edgy piece, they can go directly to that section of the book, where they will find a wide collection of fresh ideas in the style they are seeking.
Also included is a directory of font foundries and suppliers, providing busy designers with a quick reference guide to where they can find the fonts that pique their interest.

great book for your collection.......2007-08-28
having started a collection for graphic, web, collateral, etc design, i must admit that many of my books are from rockport. they seem to have a pretty good grasp at the current trends and designs. this book will help inspire and spawn creative ideas for type treatments. great book.
Must have book!.......2007-05-15
It is one of the useful books for any designer. It has all you need ways to give your vision a right spin!
GREAT.... that's it!.......2007-05-07
This is a great book! If you ever get into ruts where you need inspiration or want to see how others have handled type, this is a book for you. This is a GREAT tool, it will inspire you to see and do things with type that you sometimes never think of or may be afraid of trying. I highly reccomend this book. It's a book that will help you brainstorm and look at type as more of a design element, more than just words on a page.
Amazing.......2006-12-09
An amazing book. the collection of typography in this book is hands down the best. if you ever thought looking at design that focuses on Type would be boring. You are wrong. the diveristy, and inspiration inside of this book will keep in by you, and away from the book shelf for a long time.
Awesome Book.......2006-11-05
This book is excellent if you want to research and study how type is used to enhance a design and make a design candy to the eyes. The book arrived promptly and was brand-new of course! Just as promised.

Along the way, readers are treated to priceless culinary lessons: everything from how to cut potatoes for flawless frying to where to find the choicest beef to the two secret ingredients in spaghetti Bolognese (nutmeg and cream!). Lavishly illustrated with gorgeous photos, and including “perfect” recipes for each dish, this unrivaled book deserves a place as a staple in every cook’s home.

In Search Of Perfection.......2007-08-31
This was a great book. It reads like a book instead of a cookbook. The stories are excellent. It should serve as a guide to any Chef. The way that Heston goes about researching ingredients can be used by anyone. I am not saying that we need to travel the world trying different components of a recipe but trying the best of our local ingredients would suffice. Heston is at the cutting edge of the Culinary world and it was great to see his thinking process put down on paper.
intense.......2007-08-13
not quite a cook book.. more an exploration of certain kitchen classics and how to molecularly gastronimize them. or at least use a ton of steps and special equipment to make them. treacle tart with an ice cream made with dry ice? Just try to make the black forest choco cake he has in here.
the real kitchen.......2007-05-29
heston blumenthal, it is the best on kitchen.he love the flavors and aromas on kitchen.
the love for this is great and the best for the former chef
A delight for the armchair cook.......2007-05-11
A true joy for the armchair cook as well as for those of us who also love to venture into the kitchen. Now I understand why Heston Blumenthal is perhaps the best cook in the world today.

Explicit.......2007-08-23
This book has very explicit information for women whom really want to get the body they've dreamed!!
it's easy to following the instructions...
easy exercise.......2007-08-18
i found this book very easy to follow and especially liked the routine. each day was alittle different and took about 20 minutes to complete.
Disappointing if you already own the previous edition.......2007-07-24
Conflicting information on the same page. On the left column it states that the best time to work out is as soon as you wake up in the morning. But a box in the right column says to avoid weight training right after you wake up and that it may be dangerous to do so. Uh, aren't these workouts 50% weight training?
The nutrition information can best be described as "confusing." It seems to be in no particular order. There are 700-800 calorie protein shake recipes listed right after the guidelines outlining 4-5 small meals per day totaling 1200-1500 calories. One serving of soy per day is recommended for women, but no soy products are mentioned on the food choice lists. Diets for fat loss and muscle gain are provided, but absolutely NO information about maintenance. Worst of all, the authors seem to encourage us to eliminate all fruit from our diets unless we "can't live without them."
The previous edition was much more clearly written. The DVD would be good for someone who has never seen proper form demonstrated. All in all, save your $$$. If you have the previous edition, you will get more from other books and magazines. Definitely look elsewhere for nutrition advice.
Great book if you are a die hard athlete.......2007-07-18
I ended up sending this book back. I just wanted something to help me tone and tighten, but this is more for someone who wants to be really buff. Instead I bought Buff Brides, and mix that up with Pilates. Seems to be working!
Good for beginners.......2007-06-22
If you're new to weight training this is a good book to start. This book includes nutrtion information, and of course, excercises. There are a lot of excercises on machines, which is nice, but I would have been more impressed if there were more things using free-weights or incorporating bosus or balance balls.

For his first book, The Making of a Chef, hands-on journalist Michael Ruhlman attended the most prestigious cooking school in the U.S., the Culinary Institute of America. He also earned his chef's whites and began cooking professionally. Ruhlman ventures further into the secret lives of chefs with his second book, The Soul of a Chef. This enthusiastically researched report is divided into three parts: The first concerns the Certified Master Chef exam, a brutal weeklong cooking marathon that measures the skill levels of professional chefs. The second and third parts of Ruhlman's book are devoted to the careers of two different chefs, Michael Symon of Cleveland's Lola Bistro and Thomas Keller of Napa Valley's legendary French Laundry. The thread connecting these three tales together is Ruhlman's quest for culinary perfection: Does it exist? Is it possible? How is it even measurable? Ruhlman does indeed stumble onto the realization of his high-minded ideal, serving up a palatable conclusion for hard-core foodies equally obsessed with the perfect meal. --Sumi Hahn Almquist
Book Description
In his second in-depth foray into the world of professional cooking, Michael Ruhlman journeys into the heart of the profession. Observing the rigorous Certified Master Chef exam at the Culinary Institute of America, the most influential cooking school in the country, Ruhlman enters the lives and kitchens of rising star Michael Symon and renowned Thomas Keller of the French Laundry. This fascinating book will satisfy any reader's hunger for knowledge about cooking and food, the secrets of successful chefs, at what point cooking becomes an art form, and more. Like Ruhlman's The Making of a Chef, this is an instant classic in food writing-one of the fastest growing and most popular subjects today.
Customer Reviews:
An insider's peek at the CIA's Master Chef Certification exam.......2007-08-20
Here, Ruhlman returns to continue the journey that began with The Making of a Chef, albeit this time with a different set of people, attempting a different degree.
In this book, he takes the reader along for a ride as several gifted chef alumni make a pilgrimage to the CIA, from their separate (and thriving) careers, in order to attempt an advanced culinary masters certification ... a very prestigious credential that few people, even elite chefs, ever achieve.
Think Reality TV, following the journey of a small group of hot chefs, as they attempt to climb the Mt. Everest of culinary certifications, and you'll have the basic idea.
Ruhlman, as usually, pulls it off with is usual soulfulness, grace and aplomb ... and unlike most food writers, he's got the culinary chops (pun intended) to keep up with the people making the journey.
If you like Making of a Chef, you'll like this one too.
Michael, get a better editor!.......2007-04-12
This is a light, quick read for anyone who likes food.
My only criticism is that Ruhlman's wonderful voice is sorely in need of a better editor. The errors detract from the storytelling. Other than that, it's a lovely read.
Pursuit for Perfection.......2007-01-11
Like many people interested in cooking I have often times dreamt of what it would be like to be a chef. If you feel the same way, then look no further than Michael Ruhlman's - The Soul of the Chef. This book is fabulous and likely to become one of your favorites, if you love food. Ruhlman takes you up close and personal with what it's like to be a chef.
The book is broken down into three sections. The first section is a look at the utterly heartbreaking Certified Master Chef exam. This section shows the reader just how difficult the world of a chef can be. He watches as a group of individuals try to make it through this very intense exam. You get a glimpse at the examinees and what drives them to this nearly impossible dream. I really enjoyed that Ruhlman tried to understand what motivates people to attempt such a difficult task. He really gives you an upclose and personal look at the Certified Master Chef exam.
The second section follows an up and coming chef and explores his motivations. This section really highlights what students take away from their culinary school days and what they decide to change for themselves. It was fascinating to watch someone as they were becoming famous.
The third section was my favorite. This section follows Thomas Keller from the French Laundry. Anyone who loves food will totally be taken in by Keller's approach and style. I absolutely loved his discipline and focus. This section, for me, really showed what is the difference between a truly great chef and the average chef. This book really examines the motivations and styles of some members of the next generation of American chefs.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves food. It's like getting a backstage pass to a very private world. I can't say enough good about this book. Really, you should read this!
Micheal Ruhlman is the man!.......2006-09-27
Great book that gives a nice in depth look at the CMC Exam. Very excited to try and take that in the future now hehe. Also, a great look at other two other incredible chefs and their views on cooking and what they strive for. A must read!!!
Magnifique!!!!.......2006-09-08
What a terrific book on the coming of age of the American food scene! We are witnessing an exponential growth in the number of great chefs, wonderful restaurants and informed diners and have (in my opinion) outgrown our French origins. It is that peculiarly American drive that has startled the world from its complacency, our willingness to borrow, adapt, transform and take what is best of all cultures. We have surpassed the land of cuisine with a startling adventuresome that is only now being realized. Ruhlman notes that even though a true American cuisine is evolving, the roots of fine cooking are firmly in Classical French technique and philosophy of food.
We are introduced to a world few of us realize even exists - the world of professional chef. Not a line man, burger flipper or meat & three cook but that rarified plateau of wondrous technique and startling uses of ingredients in new and exciting ways. At the same time we learn about the work behind the scenes - the heart of any fine dining establishment. This is a tale in three parts: (1) The epic 10-day struggle for the coveted "certified Master Chef" title, (2) The beginning of a small, successful restaurant in Ohio (Lula) where the chef-owner seems to break all the rules and (3) the story of the greatest restaurant in America, the French Laundry and its genius chef, Thomas Heller. Each tale is told with passion, admiration and obvious personal enjoyment. The author admits being continually suprised by new revelations, by discovering why we do the things we do. In a sense, the story is as much his journey as it is those he chronicles.
Along the way he contradicts himself, first stating that cooking is not an art then declaring Thomas Heller a true artist. Each of the vignettes illustrates the working theme - a striving for excellence in all things. This comes in many forms and many expressions but at the end of the night the chef must satisfy himself which proved to be even a harder task than satisfying others. The writing for each section was superb and it is difficult to choose a favorite. In each case we root fot the talented but struggling underdog as they attempt to retain their high principles while making a living. My grade: A

gym made simple.......2007-08-15
I purchased this book two months ago and have made definite progress in improving my physical condition so I know the book works.
The book has three broad sections:
1) nutrition - what to eat, when to eat, etc
2) exercises - the correct way to execute an exercise specially when around weights
3) workout routines
Further more there are three workout routines to choose from depending on the TYPE of physique you are aiming for:
1) break-in routines for beginners
2) body sculpting workout routines
3) mass building workout routines
Within these routines the authors have further divided the routines based upon the fact whether you do or do not have access to a properly equipped gym. So literally - there is plenty of choice and you pick the workout that you want according to your situation.
The one feature about this book that I really liked was their description of nutrition. Other reviewers have already written about that so I won't go into details in this review.
This book can give you the type of physique you are looking for and have you covered from all angles. Strongly recommended.
Pretty good Book.......2007-08-06
Reads Well, SOme minor Mistakes but if you have brain One, its easy to follow. I am Kind of a Beginner and it worked well for me, Im in Week 3 and already Noticing a change from my regular workout.
Well-structured Program.......2007-08-01
This book covers virtually every aspect of body sculpting and includes well-designed programs for every level of conditioning, from raw beginner to advanced. Chapters include motivational information and the proper rep technique for maximum muscle stimulation. A comprehensive discussion of nutrition is followed by detailed sample diets and a complete, no-nonsense review of muscle building and testosterone enhancing supplements. Training chapters are organized by body part, with each exercise clearly illustrated in both text and photography. The bonus DVD leaves no doubt as to the proper form for each exercise. The training programs are set out thoroughly by day of the week and leave no room for error. Training programs are set available according to the type of equipment available and the trainee's level of conditioning. The overall quality of the text is excellent, with clear photography and well-written text devoid of typos. This program is perfectly suited to those who prefer to train at home, since it includes several intense, full-body conditioning programs that require no more equipment than a set of adjustable weight dumbbells and, ideally, an incline bench. As a lifelong fitness enthusiast, I learned several things I never knew, such as the ideal time of day to work out for maximum fat burning. If you have any interest in body sculpting at all, this book is well worth its modest cost.
Great Book for any level.......2007-07-20
I have been into bodybuilding for many years and this book has taught me some great things. The best thing about this book is its deep explanation of why/how you should do something. Very good book for all levels of training!
Excellent source of diet and exercise guidelines.......2007-07-16
I have been sticking closely to the dietary/supplemental guidelines provided in this book for about 6 months now. I also started about 6 months ago working out 6 days a week following their recommended workout program. So far I have lost 34.5 pounds and 8% body fat. The exercise plan provided is progressive so you don't overstress your muscles or get discouraged. The diet plan is not too restrictive and fairly simple to follow. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a healthy diet/exercise program.

Grilled is Perfection.......2007-08-16
Love the show and I love this book!!! I have been grilling all my life and am always excited about the new twists Rob puts on the old classics. Who thought grilled chicken could be fun again. His recipes are easy to follow and assemble and always come out great. Can't wait for the next one. Great for the beginner or experienced griller.
Excellent in every way.......2007-04-05
This cookbook follows the TV shows personality very well. The recipes are easy to follow and the book is enjoyable reading as well. The Licensed to Grill crew take outdoor grilling to a higher level. The flavors of the spices and foods in each recipe blend and complement exceptionally well. This cookbook is the closest thing to having the crew in your back yard
Grilled to Perfection: Recipes from License to Grill.......2007-03-14
There are some very good recipes in this book. There could have been a few more pictures for visuals.
Excellent so far.......2007-02-19
Having just received Grilled to Perfection, I have not had a chance to prepare the recipes from the book. However, the information given on grills, equipment, tools, etc. are invaluable. Just the section on buying grills is well worth the money for this book. The recipes in the book are laid out well, easy to follow and use ingredients that are readily available in the local grocery stores. The information preceding each chapter is a valuable tool for learning about the different cuts of meats, seafood, veggies, etc. I am anxious to try the recipes. The only disappointment I have is that there was none of Robert Rainfords charm and wit as he did not write the book. There were only pictures of him. This is a must have book for the backyard griller.
Book Description
Thirty-five million Americans–one in eight–like to go fishing. Fly fishers have always considered themselves the aristocracy of the sport, and a small number of those devotees, a few thousand at most, insist upon using one device in the pursuit of their obsession: a handcrafted split-bamboo fly rod. Meeting this demand for perfection are the inheritors of a splendid art, one that reveres tradition while flouting obvious economic sense and reaches back through time to touch the hands of such figures as Theodore Roosevelt and Henry David Thoreau.
In Casting a Spell, George Black introduces readers to rapt artisans and the ultimate talismans of their uncompromising fascination: handmade bamboo fly rods. But this narrative is more than a story of obscure objects of desire. It opens a new vista onto a century and a half of modern American cultural history. With bold strokes and deft touches, Black explains how the ingenuity of craftsmen created a singular implement of leisure–and how geopolitics, economics, technology, and outrageous twists of fortune have all come to focus on the exquisitely crafted bamboo rod. We discover that the pastime of fly-fishing intersects with a mind-boggling variety of cultural trends, including conspicuous consumption, environmentalism, industrialization, and even cold war diplomacy.
Black takes us around the world, from the hidden trout streams of western Maine to a remote valley in Guangdong Province, China, where grows the singular species of bamboo known as tea stick–the very stuff of a superior fly rod. He introduces us to the men who created the tools and techniques for crafting exceptional rods and those who continue to carry the torch in the pursuit of the sublime. Never far from the surface are such overarching themes as the tension between mass production and individual excellence, and the evolving ways American society has defined, experienced, and expressed its relationship to the land.
Fly-fishing may seem a rarefied pursuit, and making fly rods might be a quixotic occupation, but this rich, fascinating narrative exposes the soul of an authentic part of America, and the great significance of little things. George Black’s latest expedition into a hidden corner of our culture is an utterly enchanting, illuminating, and enlightening experience.
Customer Reviews:
An Instant Classic.......2007-10-09
"Casting A Spell" is a genuine tour de force: magical, impeccably researched and passionate. Black recounts the grand story of nineteenth and twentieth century American craftsmen who brought the art of bamboo rod making to perfection. With a passion for detail--and a passion for the men he brings to life--he takes the reader through the wilds of Maine, into the massive Winchester armaments and tackle factory in New Haven, past the bucolic countryside of New York and Connecticut, and then sets it all (with a timing that leaves you grinning) against the glitter and grime of today's strip malls. Calling "Casting" a tour de force is no exaggeration.
"Casting" achieves numerous firsts. It is by far the best-written book of its kind. As if that weren't enough, "Casting" certainly is the first "must read" book on this topic--no fly fisherman may claim expertise without having devoured Black's wonderful book. And it is the first book that correctly puts the master fly rod maker, E. W. Edwards, in the pantheon of the greats.
A man who fishes what he writes about, Black stops occasionally to cast his own Edwards fly rods toward a few historic streams along the way (and has the humility not to tell us how many trout he catches). No other book has captured the enthusiasm of American rod makers and their sense of Yankee inventiveness as well. With great authority Black relates the ingenuity of the tackle greats who, in a few brief decades, created the standard that all fly fishermen unconsciously use today to measure the speed and "feel" of any rod.
Not to repeat myself, but did I mention that "Casting A Spell" is a must read? Get it today. No amount of praise is adequate. Black has written an instant classic.
Fun, informative book.......2006-12-05
This is a terrific book. It covers the history and personalities that shaped the evolution of the craft of bamboo fly rod making.
I bought this book thinking it would be informative, and it was. What was pleasantly surprising was how interesting and fun the book was to read. It gave me a real appreciation for the great bamboo rod makers and some insight into their lives. The author's careful research and enthusiasm for the subject matter is evident throughout. Highly recommended.
Marvelous Book!!!.......2006-11-15
George Black has written a most literary and enjoyable history of the bamboo fly fishing rod. Unhurried, with frequent fascinating digressions, he takes one through the history of the development of this remarkable sporting instrument, beginning in the mid 1800's and coming down to the present. He provides much color to persons whose names were all we knew before: Leanard, Edwards, Hawes, Thomas and more. A grand book by a great author. You will really enjoy this book, even if you are not a fly fisher.
Chasing the Perfect Dream.......2006-11-12
While the nominal subject of this book is the banboo fly rod, it's really about art. There are those who can look at the Mona Lisa and be enraptured. There are others who hear a piece of music and almost leave their bodies behind.
Then there are others who look at the Mona Lisa and see a picture not as good as a photograph, and to whom music is basically noise. (Of course to a lot of music lovers, that 'other kind' of music is just noise.)
This book goes a long way to explaining that there's another approach to art. The art of the bamboo fly rod 'casts a spell' on George Black. And as a professional writer he has the gift of words to explain just how it does. His poetic prose takes the reader from the technology and the reknown makers to little known streams across the country to make the perfect catch with the perfect rod. Will he ever reach the untimate? Of course not. Life is a journey not a destination.
Bamboo fly rods.......2006-11-04
What can one say about an obsession? What can one write about an obsessive book about a line of craftsmen who rarely made a profit and were never satisfied with their work?
If you fly fish, read this. If not but you are interested in technmology and craftsmanship, read this in bits. If you are not any of these, read something else.
Book Description
For over 40 years, Porsches legendary 911 has ruled the realm of sports cars. The Porsche 911 is the benchmark. The 911 recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, making it one of the longest-running models currently in production from any manufacturer. A leader on the race track as well as the street, it posted an outright, overall victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2003, beating Corvettes, Ferraris, and even purpose-built Daytona Prototype race cars. This, despite the fact the 911s rear-engine configuration was long ago rejected by rivals. Award-winning author Randy Leffingwell interviewed dozens of current and former engineers, designers, and executives from Porsche and its competitors. The result is a rich anecdotal history as told by true, hands-on, decision-making insiders. The author describes it as an inside story of how the 911 came to be what it was, what it is now, and how it moved through 40-plus years of evolution, growth, and improvement. The fascinating history is complemented by stunning photography shot by Leffingwell and David Newhardt.
Customer Reviews:
Absolutly Brilliant Book, Worth Every Penny.......2007-10-08
This book has stunning photography and amazing writing. It provides a comprehensive, but not exhaustive history on Porsche's development. The book flows from topic to topic beautifully, making for a engaging read. This has been the best Porsche book I have read, and it was worth every penny. I would reccomend it to anyone who wants to learn more about Porsche, about its development as a company, about its amazing racing heritage, and about the making of the most captivating road car in the world. The Porsche 911.
Perfection By Design.......2007-02-16
Randy's book sits prominently in my family room along side other Porsche books and is one of the few that is up to speed with some of the latest offerings from Zuffenhausen. Writing a book on the 911 is nearly impossible because there is so much out there. You have to know where to start and where to end,--and just how much to stuff in the middle. Randy pulls this off with a great selection of photos, most never before seen, and accurate detail of the nuances of the famous 911. The only negative I can find is what puts a book in the top 5% of books, and that is matching copy to photographs,--on the same page. This is extremely hard to do because it is generally unpredictable, where one paragraph or photograph will start or stop. That, along with a handfull of errors in photo IDs keeps it from perfection by design itself but it's nicely assembled and beautifully printed. Anyone with a 911 in their garage should have this book to help explain their addiction to normal people.
Porsche 911: Perfection by Design.......2007-01-10
An excellent 'coffee table' book, great photos and extensive, detailed information on this beautiful piece of machinery!
Great history of the 911.......2006-02-28
Although it doesn't have the technical details of Frere's "911 Story", I think for most of us this is a better overall book. I also recommend Leffingwell's "Porsche Legends". If you are a Porsche 911 fan, this is well worth having.
5 stars but..........2006-02-17
..only if you are interested in a pictorial evolution of the 911. The pictures inside are awesome and they are not to be found on the internet. The supplementary text is comprehensive and very informative and the book is readable throughout.
However, you get the feeling that the book is somewhat hastily written after the 964 generation and the inclusion of some Ruf and Gemballa derivatives spoils the story in my humble opinion as they are not original 911s.
Moreover some models are missing and they are mentioned in their racing guises (like the 911 GT2 (993)). No real technical data is supplied but giving it 4 stars would be injustice.

Book Description
Addiction to Perfection
By Marion Woodman
Through case studies, dreams, and myths, a Jungian analyst explores the hidden causes of compulsion in the lives of men and women. At the root of eating disorders, substance abuse, and other addictive and compulsive behaviors, Woodman sees a hunger for spiritual fulfillment. The need to experience a sacred connection to an energy greater than their own drives people to search for an illusory ideal of perfection. Through discussions of parenthood, creativity, and body image, this presentation shows that freedom from addiction can be found by discovering the wisdom and power of the feminine principle. Right spiral, right time.......2007-03-14
I am not sure what good it does trying to justify this book's position to those who have commented negatively on it here. This book broke me out of a cycle of destruction and gave me tremendous insights into my reality. I guess the truth is everyone's path is different. What Jungian is to me is not what it is to everyone else. This is understandable. Woodman, in this book, says, "The world of the feminine resonates. Timing is everything. If it doesn't ring, either it is the wrong spiral or the wrong time or there is no bell." (Preface, p. 8) Indeed, the bell does not ring true for everyone.
I cannot say enough how healing Woodman's words are here. She writes from a center that is all at the same time meandering, expansive, illuminating and positive. She expertly combines all of the complex elements explored into a whole that leaves me feeling nurtured as an individual and enlightened in a way only someone in touch with positive femininity could do.
Though the wording is almost entirely devoted to women here, like Woodman says, the witch is felt everywhere. The drive for perfection is ruthlessly felt in both sexes. As a man I have read this book countless times because it is the right bell at the right time, regardless of sex. It may not be easily digestible by the masses, and that's ok. Personally the collective has never offered much insight to me. If you are feeling compelled to the realm this book explores, follow it. Find your own truth outside of the best-selling list.
Life changing book.......2007-03-04
I got this book several years ago. It has changed my life.
Marion gets to the heart of women's behavior in a way few can. To me this book is even better than "women who run with wolves". Marion talks about dysfunction from the inside out. She digs into dreams, symbols, and behavior to show why we do what we do.
This isnt just a simple 1,2,3 self help book. For me this a workbook for my life.
Umý.......2001-02-04
Hey, I'm an archetype anyway you slice it. Prodigal, jester, shaman, wanderer-it's all in there. I have made millions of dollars from ideas that come to me in dreams. Jung would laugh at this book. Believe me. Look inside yourself. And laugh.
Woodman at her best.......2000-09-21
This book has gone a long way toward helping me bring some key issues in my life and dreams to consciousness. Having read a lot of Woodman's writings, I'd have to say this may be her key book.
After reading the review written by the reviewer below I'm reminded of the fact that the Jungian way of thinking is not for everyone. Those who tend to take life events, stories, dreams, and personalities literally will probably think this book is loopy. However, I have found that the use of archetypal images and themes in exploring my life goes a long way toward getting at the depths of who I am without explaining away the mystery or reducing myself to a one-dimensional being.
Woodman is a brilliant archetypal thinker. This book is so dense with good stuff that it is impossible to absorb it all in one or even two readings. Well worth having around to read over and over again
Loopy cubed.......2000-09-04
Jung is loopy. Jungian psychology is loopy. Jungian psychologists are loopy. It surprises me that people take this stuff as seriously as they do. Maybe there's a good Jungian explanation for that too. That said, Jung was, in my opinion, the Wagner of early psychology, and, like Wagnerian opera, there's a lot to be learned by mulling over some of the ideas presented therein. But remember, Jung was more of a Romantic philosopher than a psychologist. Colorful stuff. Just don't take it too seriously.
Book Description
Everyone thinks they know the real Gordon Ramsay: rude, loud, pathologically driven, stubborn as hell.
Now, for the first time, the world's most famous—and infamous—chef tells the inside story of his life: his difficult childhood, his father's alcoholism and violence, his brother's heroin addiction, his short-circuited soccer career, and his fanatical pursuit of gastronomic perfection—everything that helped mold him into the culinary talent and media powerhouse that he is today. He also dishes the dirt on the rich and famous, and takes you behind the scenes of some of the great restaurants.
Honest, outrageous, and intensely personal, Roasting in Hell's Kitchen will not only change your perception of Gordon Ramsay but that of the cutthroat world of haute cuisine as well.
