3 out of 5 stars Am I the only one who is bothered by this?.......2007-01-21

I've read the first 4 books in the McNally's series in sequence. They're all highly formulaic but still enjoyable.

In the first 3 books the main character is a lovable rogue, mostly amoral but still with certain personal limits, so it is not surprising that he sleeps with various available women in the first 3 books.

But -- SPOILER ALERT -- in the 4th book he sleeps with a woman who is married, living with her husband and planning to continue that way. And -- lest you think that he was momentarily carried away by passion -- he sleeps with her two more times.

Suddenly, to this reviewer at least, McNally becomes a less lovable and much more unattractive figure.

to me any McNally book is a good one. You should look for the whole series.

I really love the entire series of McNally books by Lawrence Sanders, however the later one's written by Vincent Lardo are not up to par, so make sure you insist on reading a Lawrence Sanders McNally story or you might be put off. I also loved the audio books.

This book didn't merely capture my reading interest. It became a book of my heart...

In McNally's SECRET, the pilot to this series, we're informed that the pater McNally is not an "old-money" man. Okay. I get that and I like it. (That's not the secret.)

Having reviewed 4 of the original 7 McNally books by Lawrence Sanders, I had accepted the face value (not realizing the facade) of the Palm Beach mansion and the genteel lifestyle of pater Prescott McNally, Yale graduate, leather-bound-Dickens-reading, attorney-at-law. Upon reading (in McNally's Secret) the illuminating passages of Archy's grandparent's ways into money, I began to wonder what other Secrets this novel might expose.

Usually, if possible, I prefer to read a series in order, pilot first. I can't explain why, but, in this case I'm glad I read 4 of the original 7 McNally's prior to reading SECRET (though I believe this series can be satisfyingly read in any order).

The opening of this novel was classic, and felt to be the initiation of what Sanders was born and itching to write, beyond the sagas of his other fine works. The introductory remarks were exquisite in mapping the reasons for, "Can't you ever be serious, Archy?" I'd love to quote that paragraph, but maybe I should allow you to read it with the book in hand. I will quote a few other passages, however, which might serve as appropriate appetizers to this banquet of a book.

Comparing himself to S. Holmes, Archy says:

"I can't glance at a man and immediately know he's left-handed, constipated, has a red-headed wife, and slices lox for a living. I do investigations a fact at a time. Eventually they add up - I hope. I'm very big on hope."

Archy's description of the start up of the Pelican Club were the best type of soul food. This is how and why such a club should be started (then survive through a near hit of Chapter 7). Of course you really should read the book to get the whole of that brief history, but here's a prime paring:

"We were facing Chapter 7 when we had the great good fortune to hire the Pettibones, an African-American family who had been living in one of the gamier neighborhoods of West Palm Beach and wanted out."

They "wanted out" and they deserved a chance where their skills could and would save not only themselves, but those who hired them. Isn't that the type of win/win the world needs now?

I almost sobbed at the below passage, I felt such a deep surge of "right on" (definitely did a breath-catch hiccup and heart moan):

"... we formed a six-piece jazz combo (I played tenor kazoo), and we were delighted to perform, without fee, at public functions and nursing homes. A Palm Beach critic wrote of one of our recitals, `Words fail me.' You couldn't ask for a better review than that."

Yep. This is a book of my heart. Words don't often fail me in reviews; too much the contrary. But I'm getting better at refraining from using my critic hat with a steel-studded-bat accessory, which is what Archy was getting at.

Some might wonder why a person in my position, with my un-hidden agendas, would take so much time to write raves on a series by a deceased author. Mostly, I love Archy. But, possibly the live spirits of the dead are sometimes more able to be helpful than dead souls of the living? Keeping my tongue in cheek, I might add that freed spirits probably have better connections for helping an author into the right publishing contacts for a character series with ironic assonance with this one.

Moving quickly onward and upward, though not with wings attached yet...

In contrast to the other 4 I've read, I noticed that this Archy is less bubbly-buffoonish (though the buffoon is always endearing) and slightly more serious, sensitive, and quietly contemplative. I like both versions of Archy, though I prefer the slight edge of peaceful acquiescence in the pilot, and I can't help but wonder, as I do with all series, how much reader feedback, and editor/agents' interpretation of it, directed the progression of balance of certain appealing or potentially irritating qualities. I wonder how each series would have progressed if the feedback had been balanced and pure (as a species, we're not there yet, but forward motion is perceptible), rather than inevitably polluted by the "life happens" part of the sometimes perverted, capricious tastes of us squeaky wheels, and the healthy ego needs of professionals in positions of swallow and sway.

I'm still trying to understand why honesty is the most appealing human quality to me, yet honest criticism does not speak to my heart, nor to my soul, not even to my head. Often, though, it does speak in perfect pitch to my funny bone. And, of course true Honesty (with the capital "H") leaps beyond speaking the "truth" as one happens to "see" it on a good or bad day. Cultural honesty, of the type dramatized by Stephen King, Lawrence Sanders, Tamar Myers, Barbara Workinger, Joanne Pence, Sue Grafton, (and others) is what most often pushes me to stand up and cheer.

Somewhere.

One of the best spots I've found is on the edge of the clear cliff of ozone found in Amazon's sacred forum of Customer Reviewers.

Of course the first lines in SECRET, the sipping of champagne from a belly button would snag the attention of even the most sexually skittish reader of the nose-raised, neck-cricked, personality persuasion. But, truly and honestly, what sunk me with every hook were the few lines exposing why Archy could never be serious. I know I said I wouldn't, but I have to quote this passage, beginning on page 1 chapter 1. For me, it's one of the main selling points of the series:

"I had lived through dire warnings of nuclear catastrophe, global warming, ozone depletion, universal extinction via cholesterol, and the invasion of killer bees. After a while my juices stopped their panicky surge and I realized I was bored with all these screeched predictions of Armageddon due next Tuesday. It hadn't happened yet, had it? The old world tottered along, and I was content to totter along with it."

I'd bet my fortune (which is based on a skill of "make do"; there are no bananas in it) that the above passage is what captured a collection of readers so absolutely in a "right on" agreement that this series spanned the grave of the author and is still spewing pages and stretching shelves. And, of course, this attitude of "if you can't lick `em; flick `em" which Archy aimed toward "kvetch-ers" as he terms them, continues from the above, with relish accumulating, throughout the book.

Archy is a rare sane person swimming along nicely within the insanity of a last-gasp-culture (which is "drowning in The Be Careful Sea" as I described and termed that syndrome in one of my sci fi manuscripts titled MORNING COMES).

To Jennifer, of the champagne sea in her belly button, Archy answered why he wasn't an attorney:

"Because I was expelled from Yale Law for not being serious enough. During a concert by the New York Philharmonic I streaked across the stage, naked except for a Richard M. Nixon mask."

That answer brought to mind the bright side of Howard Roark (from Ayn Rand's FOUNTAINHEAD, see my review posted 10/14/05) who was arrogantly unconcerned about his and the Dean's reasons for Roark's being expelled from architectural school. You'd be right to wonder where I got that comparison, since Roark could never be accused of being anything but serious. Syncopated irony? Assonance?

You be the judge. Get the SECRET of the McNally collection.

As I relished the final chapters and pages of SECRET, I had a thought about the beauty, warmth, lovely literary melancholy, and subtly complex richness radiating from those concluding textual treasures:

In retrospect, this novel doesn't feel like a planned pilot to a mystery series. It feels to be a singular novel, like but not like, the ones Sanders had written prior to it. What it feels like to me is that Lawrence hit upon a "soul speak" story which couldn't halt the cultural conversation it had initiated, however serendipitous that initiation may have been.

Yes, I do recall that in some of my other reviews ("reveries" according to my Amazon Friend, L.E. Cantrell) I speculated on something which could seem contradictory to the above mentioned "thought." I had wondered if Parker's Senser series might have been somehow a spark for this McNally series. I continued to see references to Boston in this book (as in other McNally's I've reviewed), which, of course, is the city for which Spenser did the Walkabout. So possibly SECRET was somewhat an antithetical homage to Spenser, possibly even a hat "doff" with a friendly, competitive "one-better" attempt, meant only to be a single novel rather than a never-die series.

Based on Agatha Christie's official web site, Miss Marple was not originally intended to be another Poirot, and look what happened there (see my Listmania of the Miss Marple series).

To me, Archy appears to be a gatekeeper for pure and primal, hidden wishes and dreams. Living home comfortably, guiltlessly at 37, on the top floor of his parent's mansion in Palm Beach; eating drool-food from a house chef; having established a club like The Pelican as a side atmosphere to partake in daily; working at a cushy, just challenging enough, engaging career for discreet inquiries ... If an author's (or reader's) going to retire that would be da place (or at least an entertaining option).

It'll be interesting to see if/how I'm able to bridge the gap from Lawrence Sanders's Archy to Vincent Lardo's. I'd love to know how that bridge was built and continues to be maintained.

Though a perfectly acceptable, gorgeous reprint in a mass market paperback was (probably still is) available on Amazon's Super Saver Special, I felt lucky to find a vender on Amazon (a-bookworm2) holding a used G. P. Putnam's Sons hardcover of this novel, a first printing of the 1992 copyright. What an honor it will be to have this version of the pilot of such an auspicious series from such a life-perceptive author, Lawrence Sanders. The glossy-black jacket provides a luscious background for the name and title printed in thick, gleaming, copper ink, with the artwork of an antique magnifying glass and fancy-brass scissors weighing down the million-dollar-valued, 1918 US Stamp of the Inverted Jenny.

This pilot is a rare find in a rare series.

5 out of 5 stars A pleasurable romp with a pleasurable chap!.......2004-03-19

Lawrence Sanders' first Archibald McNally novel is much like Arhcy's mother, pleasingly plump and full of delight! Archy is part of McNally & Son Attorney-At-Law, notice the word 'attorney' is singular, not plural. That's because Archy is not a lawyer, though he did go to law school. But he got kicked out. We won't go into that unpleastantness, however.
Dear, dear Archy heads a department of his father's firm called "Discreet Inquiries", he heads it because he's the only person in that particular department. Archy is asked to make some "discreet inquiries" into the disappearance in rich-and-randy Lady Cynthia Horowitz's valuable Inverted Jenny stamps. They could be worth upwards of a cool half a mil. Archy has several suspects, including but not limited to, the Smythes (whom are Lady C's son and wife), Lacy C's daughter Gina Stanescu, including Lady C's other son and wife. And her dear friend the very much gay Angus Wolfson, Lady C's chaffeur and and his girlfriend. But more and more questions arise, like: why is Lady C costantly leaving in her bronze-colored Jag and not telling her social secretary where she's going? Is Wolfson and Lady C's chaffeur having an affair? And what about Archy's personal life? Will the beautiful and astute Jennifer Towley go back to her husband or stick with Archy? One never knows, does one?

Book Description

The Egyptologist acclaimed for re-dating the Great Sphinx at Giza sets his sights on one of the true mysteries of antiquity: the Great Pyramid of Giza.

What is the Great Pyramid of Giza? Ask that basic question of a traditional Egyptologist, and you get the basic, traditional answer: a fancy tombstone for a self-important pharaoh of the Old Kingdom. This, Egyptologists argue, is the sole finding based on the data, and the only deduction supported by science.

By implication, anyone who dissents from this point of view is unscientific and woolly-minded-a believer in magic and ghosts. Indeed, some of the unconventional ideas about the Great Pyramid do have a spectacularly fabulous ring to them. Yet from beneath the obvious terms of this controversy, a deeper, more significant question arises: how is it that the Great Pyramid exercises such a gripping hold on the human psyche- adding cryptic grace to the back of the one-dollar bill and framing myriad claims of New Age "pyramid power"?

In Pyramid Quest, Robert M. Schoch and Robert Aquinas McNally use the rigorous intellectual analysis of scientific inquiry to investigate what we know about the Great Pyramid, and develop a stunning hypothesis: This ancient monument is the strongest proof yet that civilization began thousands of years earlier than is generally thought, extending far back into a little-known time. In tracing that story, we come to understand not only the Great Pyramid but also our own origins as civilized beings.

5 out of 5 stars Another "Alternative Camp" View on the Secrets of the Great Pyramid and the Dawn of Civilization.......2007-01-13

This is another of a series of similar books that I have read from the "alternative camp", or those researchers and authors like Robert Bauval, Graham Hancock, and John Anthony West whose views and theories on the age and origin of the sphinx, and the pyramids, differ from the orthodox view of most Egyptologists. Their basic position is that the sphinx and possibly the pyramids, are ancient; far more ancient than is commonly accepted by the scientific community, and that the sphinx and the pyramids are the product of an ancient and lost civilization far more advanced than the Egyptians.

Schock is a geologist and Ph.D. who was brought to Giza by John Anthony West and who together with West rocked the scientific community in the 1990's by dating the sphinx to as old as 10,500 B.C. by studying the damage to the sphinx's body and the sphinx enclosure and theorizing that it was caused by water erosion during a time some 7,000 years ago when the Nile valley received copious amounts of rainfall.

McNally is a writer and a poet with an interest in ancient civilizations. Together they present an intriguing and captivating view of the "alternative camp" on prehistoric cultured societies; the age of the Giza plateau; its builders; mathematical constants such as pi and phi, as well as other secret knowledge, built into the pyramids; the celestial alignments of the pyramids, the great pyramid in particular; and the science of the construction of the pyramids. Almost a third of the book is appendixes intended to support this view and go into detail on the pyramid's internal and external dimensions, dimension ratios, geometry, and trigonometry. They trace the foundation of the Great pyramid to an Egyptian sacred site 7,000 B.C. and suggest that the pyramids were never used as tombs by rather for ritual training, initiations, and other mystical or cultic purposes.

I'm bias because I love this kind of stuff, and although not the best book I've read by the "alternative camp", I found this to be a great read.

Review by

Dr. Colette M. Dowell

Egypt with her Sphinx, Pyramids and Temples has been revered as the cradle of civilization and her Ancient Wisdom teachings have long been sought for their secrets and mysteries. Throughout millenniums the Great Pyramid of `Khufu' has been acknowledged as one of the Seven Wonders of the World and recognized as the last to remain. Its location situated on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile claims yet another great monumental sculpture known as the Great Sphinx attributed to the Old Kingdom's 4th Dynasty, while Pharaoh Khafre was in reign
c. 2500 B.C. The Pharaoh Khafre is thought to be the son of the Pharaoh Khufu.

Many people have come to Egypt to take her land, treasures and ancient knowledge of science, wisdom and culture. Some have come, as nations conquering her for her plentiful-ness and glory at the same time destroying that which they were trying to possess. Others have come to acquire and understand the mystique of Pharaonic and Ancient Egyptian philosophy. One man has journalized his quest of seeking answers to questions, riddles and thoughts and has written a book on what he and others have discovered and theorized upon. This man is a geologist named Dr. Robert M. Schoch. His latest book outlining these new discoveries and theories is appropriately titled Pyramid Quest.

Schoch is first known for his collaborative work with Egyptologist John Anthony West in the early 1990s concerning the re-dating of the Great Sphinx to an earlier date, prior to c. 2500 B.C. as held traditionally in Egyptian and World history. Their collaborated work originally developed from R. A. Schwaller de Lubicz's lifetime research of Egyptian Monuments, Science, Philosophy and Culture. In Schwaller's studies he speaks of Egypt being far more advanced and ancient then traditionally thought. One of Schwaller's most remarkable observations notated was his view of the Great Sphinx as being sculpted much earlier than c. 2500 B.C. and not originally in the reign of Khafre or even attributable to the 4th Dynasty of Egypt.

Schwaller observed water erosion wearing the Sphinx, which had to start from an earlier time when the lands of Egypt were wetter, with more water, prior c. 3000 B.C. With Schoch being a geologist along with West's knowledge they were able to conduct a series of geological studies and seismic surveys revealing the Great Sphinx to be much older (c. 5000 - 7000 B.C.) and the erosion factor being that of water-rain and not that of wind. From that moment of realization Dr. Schoch has continuously searched and furthered his interests and curiosities. His initial findings on the Sphinx have led him on a trail throughout Ancient Egypt to the steps of the Great Pyramid. Schoch has now entered the Great Pyramid and yearns to further his comprehension of the great monument and the builders who were so highly sophisticated in their knowledge of the earth and sky sciences as well as their culture and cosmology.

Schoch captures information from all areas of thought and science by searching for ancient texts, art, diagrams, and design methods. He personally engages in scientific studies of rock erosion and geological research on aspects of related and non-related sites. He calculates numbers, refers to symbology and comprehends forms of Egyptian Hieroglyphs and consults experts in the field of hieratical writings. He collaborates with many scientists, Egyptologists, historical writers and official dignitaries of antiquities. Schoch couples his open mind with scientific regiment and is drawn to journey into the soul of the Great Pyramid and history of the Ancient Egyptians. Pyramid Quest exemplifies the vastness of the Ancient Egyptian's mysteries and the diligence of Schoch's wonderment and desire to comprehend them.

In the first half of Pyramid Quest Schoch lays a very interesting foundation for the plausible hypothesis that Egypt is exceedingly far more ancient than traditionally thought. He reaches down into distant and obscure texts, which have been buried under more modern translations and correlates the data. Schoch chronologically details many facets of variable analyses from many astute philosophers, scientists and time travelers. Some chambers and passages closed off to other scientists have been opened explicitly for Schoch to enter and explore. Many of his findings are discussed and allow the reader a view inside these forbidden chambers and learn about the many contradicting hypotheses and presiding historical legends. He even delves into more modern fringe theories in search for any truths and logically combines controversial issues into some rather interesting and challenging thoughts. Schoch also addresses some formative thoughts on his personal and collaborated findings on the re-dating of the Sphinx, the Great Pyramid and Ancient Egyptians making Pyramid Quest a most unique book filled with classic and modern pop culture literature addressing Ancient Egypt.

For you enthusiasts who like geometry, mathematics and numerology, there is a tremendous amount of references and defined terms of structured analysis on the Great Pyramid and its significant measurements encoding numerical keys as geodesic data, specific star alignments and scared scriptures. The Egyptian Book of the Dead and other distinct ancient texts are referenced and given considerable attention to for understanding variable ritualistic initiations of Egyptian spiritual cosmology. Plato, Herodotus, The Rosicrucians, Manly P. Hall and other philosophers, theologians and occultists are delivered in contrast to Christian and Judaic beliefs and modern day fanatics known as pyramidiots. Scientific REG (Random Event Generators) experiments are discussed as well as personal revelations and experiences people have had in the Grand Gallery, chambers and passages of the Great Pyramid. Schoch also speaks of his own transcendence into heightened awareness of body, mind and spirit while inside the mysterious monument and shares his feelings.

Several oblique theories on how the Great Pyramid was built are exhibited and the greatest surveys ever taken and the most interesting views are referred to and accounted for. The different eras and methods of construction are considered in great detail dissecting a master plan and design for the Great Pyramid. Information gathered from engineers, astronomers, surveyors and builders lends credence to a master plan and design, which took centuries to build and complete. The site on which the Great Pyramid stands today may have once been held sacred before its time of construction. During construction portions of the Great Pyramid show evidence of possibly being an astronomical observatory enabling its accuracy of bearings and alignments to the four cardinal points giving way to the development of a calendrical system.

And then there is always the question of what was the actual purpose of the Great Pyramid: Tomb or otherwise? In Schoch's opinion it could have served as a temple of initiation for a Neophyte to the Secret Ancient Wisdom teachings. He also describes some very unusual theories by other authors and researchers published for its use referring to a nuclear power plant and transporting plutonium to Mars, and yet another suggesting it to be a giant water pump. You will read of its use as a prophetic biblical divining device as well as many other obtuse functions.

Pyramid Quest is an incredible undertaking and a very valuable book for any who are interested in Egyptology and the Great Pyramid. The second half is literally detailed appendices about the variable hypotheses and legends that have been formulated throughout the centuries of many researchers, authors and the likes in their quest for understanding the Great Pyramid. Most importantly Schoch has laid out conversions of metrology and variances in surveys giving the reader easy access to hard found numerical, mathematical and geometrical data. Pyramid Quest exceeds in content any other book ever written pertaining to The Great Pyramid.

Many of the photos and illustrations are historical, one of a kind and very rare. They complement the text and serve as visual guides enhancing Schoch's overviews of various studies. You will get the chance to see inside the Great Pyramid and its surrounding features. The bibliography is intense and full of references pertaining to other material comprising the abundance of research acknowledged concerning Egypt and related topics. Dr. Robert M. Schoch along with the help of Robert Aquinas McNally will be considered among the classic authors revered for their endearing contributions to the collective body of research on Egyptology and the Great Pyramid. Pyramid Quest does embody many secrets of the Great Pyramid and the dawn of civilization.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2005-07-05

Finally, a book that doesn't insult the history of the ancient Egyptians or humanity as a whole by postulating silly theories about alien space men or fantastic cosmic generators for the lost race from planet x. I think Schock has presented a great piece of exploratory and fact-based Egyptology that will make the Hancocks, Bauvals and Hawas' turn their heads in notice. The Appendices are worth the price of the book alone. Not as good as 'Voices of the Rocks' but well worth the read if you're a fan of hermetic philosophy

5 out of 5 stars From enlightening to spell-binding!.......2005-06-22

Pyramid Quest could only have been written by a scientist, but anyone who has ever been fascinated by the pyramids of Egypt will find it intrigueing and enlightening! In addition to being a geologist of total integrity and a superb author, Dr. Schoch is also a master of Egyptology, Ancient History, Archaeoastrology, and the mysteries of the "old religion". All of these topics make the book pure joy for any seeker of Truth! Spellbinding! This book explains it all.

Book Description

David McNally, peak-performance consultant to businesses and author of Even Eagles Need A Push, returns with an inspiring and timely look at a problem faced by more and more of us. In today's dynamic global economy, the old rules for how to succeed--indeed, how to even stay employed--have been radically changed. The restructuring and re-engineering of our workplaces demanded by the new landscape of technology, international competition and communications now requires us to apply the lessons learned by organizations to our own professional and personal lives; what's needed now is a restructuring and re-engineering of ourselves.

Combining a highly readable blend of a seminar's worth of exercises, research-driven insights, and inspiring stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things, David McNally guides us through seven chapters, each illustrating the attitudes and behaviors needed to navigate this new world of work.

The Eagle's Secret teaches us how to trust ourselves and find the strengths that allow us not only to survive, but thrive.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Learning to be a Thriver!.......2001-01-07

Unlike the author's earlier book, Even Eagles Need A Push, this book is about survivors and thrivers. The Thriving Inventory at the start of the book is an exercise well worth doing honestly. The score will give some perspective to your level of thrivership. The rest of the book is devoted to each of the seven components of thriving. To find value from the book, it would be useful to do all the exercises in the book. The book is an excellent workbook to discover more about yourself, your capability, talents and view about life. A useful companion to the author's earlier book, Even Eagles Need A Push.

5 out of 5 stars Great for high school students.......1999-02-02

I had my technical writing class (11th-graders) read this book--they loved it and thought it was very worthwhile. It was a great springboard for discussion.

5 out of 5 stars A timely life "tune-up.".......1998-08-24

Like most people, I let the day to day issues of life sweep me away. As a longtime student of spirituality, I know better than to get into the chaos and negativity around me. But alas, I'm human. It requires constant discipline to move from participation in dysfunction to focusing on what we really want for our lives. When I read David McNally's first book, EVEN EAGLES NEED A PUSH, I found it to be just what I needed to get through a difficult divorce. Now, I'm again in life transition, considering a radical career change and possible cross-country move. I'm blessed to have found THE EAGLE'S SECRET. It is almost as though this book was written especially for me. We all need to be reminded that although we don't have control over the circumstances around us, we DO have control over our thoughts. I'd like to make this book mandatory reading for everyone who is still breathing!

5 out of 5 stars I used up two magic markers while reading this book........1998-07-11

When I was given a copy of the Eagle's Secret by a friend, I was in the midst of a professional crisis. My marriage had deteriorated because I didn't give enough time to my family. Despite the excessive amount of time I spent working, my company suffered financial setbacks that provoked a hostile takeover - with no job security for me. Wile I was in a deep depression, I received this book. Even though I had not been open to "self-help" before, I thought I had better read it anyway. It became my companion out of the darkness and has since helped me to gain balance and renewed optimism about the future. Whether you are in crisis or just trying to live life more fully, make sure to read The Eagle's Secret.

5 out of 5 stars This book touched my heart and restored my faith........1998-06-19

For anyone struggling with the turbulance and stress of life in the 1990s, this book is full of helpful advice and insprational wisdom. I enjoyed the author's autobiographical references which gave me the impression that we were side by side in the trenches, working thins out together. This is also a very clear, readable book that does not try to make simple concepts difficult. It is a that works for anyone, from a teenager coping with the challenges of growing up, to a senior citizen trying to find renewal and purpose. This is sure to be a book that I will recommend and give to family and friends.
