This one of best books on dianic witchcraft i have seen and had the pleasure to read. and a must have for anyone who practices the dianic tradtion.Only flaw is book was biased which i favor the goddess but men do have a place and all of them should be open to dianic tradtion but they need to be balanced and this book was written in 1973 need a revision for the times
Best Book On Dianic witchcraft!!.......2003-07-18
This one of best books on dianic witchcraft i have seen and had the pleasure to read. and a must have for anyone who practices the dianic tradtion.
One of best books on Dianic wicca.......2003-07-18
Irecommend it for any woman, and any man who doesn't take offense too easily lots of good infomation here and over all one of best book written on Dianic wicca.dianic wicca has been bashed alot on web in pagan comminuity esp me lol but book like rite of odin ack most dam sexist book ever written i wanted it for freya and warrior goddesses of course the book was sexist and i return it and got this one instead which had what i was looking for with out the fluff I am a woman who speaks her mind and this that this is one of better book on dianic tradtion for format but still alittle too much bias in the book simple as that. Overall nice book with good infomation but need to stress balance
Doesn't pull any punches.......2003-04-02
I think this book is a much neglected gem of the Pagan movement. Dianism (Feminist, Goddess-ony Wicca) has been declining steadily due to lack of good books written on the subject. This book, one of the first of its kind to speak exclusively to women, is still the reigning champion of the Dianic movement.
The book is star studded with some of the most talented Pagan authors of our time, including Starhawk. Spells, herbs, incenses, and colors are all discussed as in the standard Wicca 101 format. The book also offers a unique perspective on Pagan holidays, a different calendar from homogeneous Wheel of the Year literature featured in most books.
Be warned, this book is riddled with historical inaccuracies, if you're a history buff and those sorts of things bug you, you may want to look elsewhere. If you take what is written with a grain of salt, as a "mythic history" and not literal truth, you should weather this well. Also, the book doesn't pull any punches, it can be vicious in its attacks on patriarchy and oppresive culture. Finally, the book will discuss the principle of a "righteous hex", if that really goes against your morals you may want to skip that chapter.
This book was really designed with the Feminist spirit in mind, intended to get women in touch with their own Divinity through their own perceptions. If you are looking for a more balanced non-feminist approach, try anything written by Scott Cunningham.
WOW!!!.......2002-10-26
At first I was afraid to buy this book because some of the reviews give you the feeling that she gose over board & blames everything wrong on men, that is not so. This is a wondeful book the gives alot of empowering information for Women...all women. I think those that are giving negative reveiws have read an older version of the book, but the one in print now, (from Amazon.com) is nothing like that. She dose has strong opinions & you don't have to agree with everything she says but this is a valuble tool for every Witch, even if you are not Dianic. I would not advise this for beginners because some things that she should elaborate on like the sabbats, she dose not. She gives rituals of how she celebrates them but dosn't really go into why. I just love this book and those don't like it are proberly
a bit too sensitive or men who just don't get it LOL! I am going to but a second copy just in case :)

ASIN: 1559707674 |
Book Description
From the author of Holy Blood, Holy Grail-the basis for The Da Vinci Code-comes a deeper exploration of the secrets of Rennes-le-Chteau. In 1982, Henry Lincoln, with colleagues Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh, published Holy Blood, Holy Grail (Dell), which became an immediate international bestseller. It investigated Rennes-le-Chteau, a small town in France where, in the late 19th century, Berenger Saunire's discovery of a series of parchments led in turn to a large but cursed treasure that challenged many traditional Christian beliefs-including the possibility that Jesus's bloodline still exists. The treasure's story moved back through history to the Crusades, the origins of the Knights Templar, and the Virgin Birth itself. While Baigent and Leigh moved on to different subjects, Lincoln has continued to pursue the mysteries of Rennes-le-Chteau. Dan Brown's international bestseller The Da Vinci Code (Doubleday, 3/03)-based on Holy Blood, Holy Grail-has re-ignited curiosity about this ancient, powerful town. In The Holy Place, Lincoln reveals through further surveys, decoding, and analysis that this area in southwest France is the site of a vast megalithic Christian masterpiece-a holy place of enormous size and importance.

Book Not received.......2007-10-09
Up until now I have NOT received the ordered book(9 oct 2007). Was ordered 9th Sept.
worth a thought - maybe.......2007-09-20
Henry Lincoln has written about the mystery of Rennes-le-Chateau before, and he has produced British TV specials that have been well received. His new book was to be a further investigation into that same mystery, seeing if there's still gold in that vein (and judging by all of the seriously bad books published every year on the subject, that is still plenty).
The first couple of chapters rehash the well known story of Sauniere, the two coded parchments, the tombstones and Poussin's Shepherds of Arcadia, all of which appear in every book at least feigning research into Rennes. I found the decoding work to be interesting and fairly convincing. I am no cryptologist but it seemed to make sense. That takes up to page 65.
From there, Lincoln takes a detour from which he never returns. His application of some of the 'sacred geometry' used to decode the parchments, to the geography around the villages in the French countryside surrounding Rennes, taking a cue from other books Lincoln himself disparages as truly self-delusional in nature, leads him into a maze of relationships in geographical features and distances. For the rest of the book these are layered one upon another until they seem to overwhelm the ability to make sense of any of it, and Lincoln abandons the idea, suggesting that other researchers pick up the load at that point and make something of it. No doubt someone will, and no doubt it will be published, but I seriously doubt further real insight will result.
I think that Lincoln is far from the worst researcher working on this subject, and I also feel that he is a good writer with both a sense of humor and a sense of judgement and proportion. His comments on some of the other books touching on his subject show a healthy dose of skepticism. How sad, then, that he allows his own book to be hijacked by the cartographical puzzle/temple idea. I am not saying that the distance relationships do not exist: Lincoln is very good about backing up his data with the proper maps and throws all of his research open to confirmation by the reader, which is frankly very refreshing. But it seems most likely that we are looking at a great deal of coincidence and happenstance. Lincoln cannot answer WHO or WHY to any of it, and does not really try to.
The book is not a total waste, and I cannot disprove Lincoln's research, nor would I want to. But the book is basically incomplete in that Lincoln lets his own train of thought go off into left field a third of the way through, and then leaves the reader holding a bunch of data of unknown validity or import.
Oh dear. Had this been published as fiction, how much better for it and for readers.......2006-09-23
Henry Lincoln writes entertainingly. He is an able writer, but when it comes to historical research, he appears either unwilling to follow the basic tenets or unable to do so.
This often occurs when one holds a deep belief that flies in the face of factual evidence.
Read this book for its entertainment value, but not for scientific or logical evidence. To read the facts, try Putnam and Wood's "The Mystery of Rennes-le-Château", which is the result of genuine scholarly research, not faux scholarly research.
I give this two stars because, whatever one might think about the conclusions to which Henry Lincoln so readily leaps, he does write with charm and passion, albeit NOT with accuracy or reliability.
The Holy Place.......2006-08-30
If you are interested in the Sacred Geometry with the Pantagrams on the Earth, this book is outstandig. It's focus on the Geometry related to Renne Le Chataux.
It is helpful to read David Woods Genesis The first book of Revelation, before you read this book.

Drawing on the witness of Scripture and the testimony of the church's greatest thinkers, Sproul looks at God the Holy Spirit and his roles. This second volume in his trilogy on the Trinity covers this perplexing doctrine as well as the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

A Primer on Pneumatology.......2007-09-05
I have read two books that I consider credible Biblical views on the Holy Spirit, one is the abridged version of John Owen's treatise published by The Banner of Truth, which is excellent yet highly technical, and the other one is this book, which I tend to enjoy more, perhaps because Prof. Sproul wrote it not as a theological treatise that tends to sound like a graduate-level seminary course, but at the level more easily digestible for layperson like me. He begins by hammering on the deity of all three Persons in the Trinity, though discrete in persons, yet having the one and the same essence, particularly the Son and the Holy Spirit, considering there is much controversy and heresy surrounding this matter, past and present. He also covers why today's so-called neo-charismatic view on a separate special baptism of the Holy Spirit being reserved for certain people only is false. These are the apologetic portion of the text. What I like more, however, perhaps because of my selfish motive to comfort my soul by loving and cherishing this third Person of the Trinity more, being the "Supreme Vicar of Christ on earth" as Sproul puts it, is to learn what he does, what his jobs are in the life of believers. I have come to love the titles given to the Holy Spirit; "Helper", "Counselor", "Comforter", particularly the sweet title "another Paraclete", or "one who is called alongside", that gives me a sense of his nearness and faithfulness, as my most gracious company and keeper. Now in closing, let me point out an important excerpt from this book. Considering the Holy Spirit always points to Christ, the first "Paraclete", according to John 14:26, I thought Sproul brought up an exquisitely profound observation in the account of the stoning death of Stephen, where when he was about to be stoned, he saw "...the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God" (Acts 7:55-56). Here is what Sproul wrote that I thought so beautiful,
"The supreme irony of Stephen's vision is that at the very moment his earthly tribunal is condemning him to death as a theological heretic, the Prince of Theology rises in the court of heaven to plead Stephen's case for him before the Father. When Jesus stands, He rises as Stephen's Advocate. He is Stephen's Paraclete in heaven. What Jesus did for Stephen was not an isolated event. He does the same thing for all who are His people. He is our Advocate, even now." Amen. Thank you, Jesus.
Good introduction to the person and work of the Holy Spirit.......2007-08-28
The rise of Pentecostalism and the charismatic movement has brought the doctrine of the Holy Spirit into the forefront of Christian thought. I strongly disagree with the charismatic movement, but I think that this has been one of its more positive effects. This new attention has been a very good thing; I think the doctrine of the Holy Spirit has historically been genuinely neglected throughout church history. Unfortunately, many of the treatments of the Holy Spirit, especially those coming from the Pentecostal and charismatic traditions (please note that I do have many charismatic friends and respect them a great deal; I consider many of them to be excellent Christians, probably better than myself, so this isn't meant as a slam against anyone), has lead to a great deal of confusion about the work of the Holy Spirit.
R. C. Sproul has written a wonderful book on the topic that helps clarify the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Although you won't find a resolution of the controversies over the spiritual gifts here (he has a very helpful discussion of the baptism of the Holy Spirit though), you will find an excellent treatment of the Holy Spirit that clears up many common misconceptions about Him and covers the most important things about His nature and purpose.
He also has some excellent discussions of the Trinity, which is a topic that confuses many people; with the rise of Islam, understanding how to explain and defend the doctrine of the Trinity will become more and more important, and this book will help you do that. This topic is important both in terms of theology and apologetics and has immense importance for the Christian life and evangelism. He addresses common misconceptions about that too, such as the idea that the Trinity is self-contradictory and incoherent; this will help you both in your personal life and in witnessing to Muslims, Jehovah's Witnesses, and others.
If you've always been confused about issues like the Trinity, baptism and indwelling of the Holy Spirit, Who the Holy Spirit is and what He does, the fruit of the Spirit, or many more topics related to the Trinity, this is the book for you. This book is concise and clearly written in language that the layman can understand. He does a good job avoiding being too technical or using too much jargon, so don't assume that you won't be able to understand it, even if you don't have much training in theology.
This book is a superb introduction that I would recommend to new believers and older ones alike.
Ignorance dismissed..........2003-01-11
I read this book because I felt totally ignorant of the Holy Spirit. I know of the Holy Spirit's power and influence in today's world, but I couldn't say I understood it. I have read chapters on it from Systematic Theology books by Erickson and Grudem, but those books hardly touched on the subject. They both left so many questions unanswered. So here comes this little book, barely less than 200 pages in length and I give it a try. The very first chapter addressed my ignorance of it... saying that the Holy Spirit is part of the triune God, but we know nothing of it. We study Jesus the Son and God the Father, but our knowledge of the Holy Spirit is pititful in comparison. RC Sproul is dead on. The book goes head on in explaining the Spirit's role in the trinity, and logically explains how the trinity can exist. He goes into an entire chapter about the sentence "Three in person, one in being" with an emphasis on the Holy Spirit's role. Sproul addresses the trinity in his other books, but it was interesting to see it from this perspective.
But my favorite chapter in this book is his analysis of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, aka the second baptism, which implies two tiers of Christians. I have personally been exposed to this phenomena, and have seen it positively affect people and negatively destroy people... so I felt very uncertain when discussions came about on this matter. This chapter completely answered my questions and went further. Epiphanies upon epiphanies rained down. I love Sproul because he DOES take a stance and doesn't cower upon these issues, but gives his opinions on his stance. And his explanations are always Biblically thought out. His Biblical analysis isn't just throwing in some verses and letting the verses explain for themselves. I read so many Christian books today where the author just throws in some verses and does hardly any analysis of it, and in doing so, endangers the purpose of the verse by isolating it and taking it out of context. I'll end it here b/c you'll do much better by reading this enlightening book.
Mystery Of The Holy Spirit By RC Sproul.......1998-03-10
This book is for every believer who wants to know more about God's Spirit. Sproul shows how the Holy Spirit was present in creation to being active in our prayers. A bit heady at times but you can get through it. This book is a must for the time we live in where counterfeits are masquerading blessings as The Holy Spirit's work.

Book Description
These meditations present the mystery of Pentecost, from Luke in Acts, John in his Gospel, and Paul in his Letters. By placing these diverse but complementary points of view together, Cantalamessa provides priests, students, and interested lay people with a "three-dimensional" image of the coming of the Spirit, particularly suited to promote catechesis and devotion. Fr. Cantalamessa originally presented these meditations in his capacity as preacher to the papal household.
Chapters are "And They Began to Speak in Different Tongues: The Lukan Pentecost and the Spirit of Unity," "You Will Receive Power When the Holy Spirit Comes Upon You: The Lukan Pentecost and the Spirit of Prophecy," "He Breathed on Them and Said, 'Receive the Holy Spirit': The Johannine Pentecost and the Spirit of Truth," "But One and the Same Spirit Produces All of These: The Pauline Pentecost and the 'Person' of the Holy Spirit."

Book Description
As Jesus Christ hung on the cross, a Roman centurion pierced his side with a spear. And there is an ancient legend that whoever possesses this Holy Lance and understands its powers, holds in his hand the destiny of the world. Secrets of the Holy Lance traces the Spear from its possession by Constantine to Charlemagne. In the hands of kings and emperors for two thousand years: * did it come within Hitler's grasp' * did it rest in Antarctic ice' * was it infused with magic by shedding Jesus' blood' * is it now hidden in Europe' Neither debunking nor worshiping, Smith pierces the veil of myth and mystery around the Spear.
Customer Reviews:
A complete, unbiased history! Finally!.......2006-09-30
Jerry E. Smith and George Piccard provide a great overview of the legends surrounding the Spear of Destiny, aka the Holy Lance. Students of the subject know that the first book on the Spear (Ravenscroft's) was a wee bit on the crazy side. It spent more time talking about who the Nazis were in their past lives than the Lance. The second main Spear book, (Buechner and Bernhart's) was great, but is now unavalible. Smith combines all these books into one, handling the legends as well as all known facts about the Lance. I would call this the most imformative and well-written book on the subject. Smith and Piccard's volume is like Alec Maclellan's "The Secret of the Spear"... but on steriods. Anyone interested in Christian relics, Nazi occultism, or just looking for a good read should pick up "Secrets of the Holy Lance" as soon as possbile.
Simply a fun read........2006-05-13
Hey I've read all the usual books on the Spear. This one is the most complete. The full history of the Spear (I mean all the 'Spears") is not included in any of the others. LOTS of info here.
It's rare for a book to get better towards the end (Come on, most info authors run out of steam before they finish. They just add junk at the end cause nobody reads that far!) If you get bogged down in the middle, skip to the end for the excitement. In fact the writting style also gets even better at the end.
As to the poor proof reading comment. The guy's right. If typos bother you.... However that's a publisher's problem. The truth is these kinds of books don't sell enough to pay for high quality proof reading. Still in truth I wasn't bothered by them (and I usually am) because the material is so well organized and written that I focused on what I was reading. Also as I understand this book is ready to go into a second printing. AUP (the publisher) usually corrects typos then. Seriously typos are a big issue for me and I gotta say there really were not that many in this book.
They didn't bother me and I've stopped reading other books because of typos.
Buy the book. Jerry's neutrality on the good vs. evil issue of the Spear is refreshing. He's not a Nazi. He's a fair reporter on a very controversial topic.
Revealing the spear's metaphysical truths and cult history.......2006-05-05
Expertly researched and knowledgeably co-authored by Jerry E. Smith and George Piccard, Secrets Of The Holy Lance: The Spear Of Destiny In History And Legend is an explorative study of the historical pursuit, ownership from Constantine to Adolph Hitler, and influence of the spear attributed Christian folklore as the one used by a Roman legionnaire, Cascus Longinus on the body of Jesus Christ when He was crucified just outside of Jerusalem and thought to be endowed with supernatural powers as a result. Edit Much?!.......2006-04-11
Easily one of the most poorly edited books ever published. A college freshman in a 100-level comp. class could have done wonders to improve this book.
A complete waste of money.
Great book........2006-03-30
Much of the stuff covered in this book I've heard briefly mentioned in various other places. It was nice to see it all put into one place and elaborated on. Mr Smith personally responded to some emails of mine I had when I had a few questions about the book... that is impressive, most authors are nearly impossible to contact, and even if you manage to find a way to contact them they don't want to answer your questions, especially when they are authors of books similiar to this one.
I wish the book would have been a bit longer but it was still a superb read... I have to admit, now I want to steal the spear for my own plans of world domination, but that probably isn't smart. Mr. Smith needs to pump out more books on this topic as now he's got me, hook... line... and sinker. This is a great book, but don't take my word on it (sorry reading rainbow) so check it out for yourself. Mr. Smith needs to write more on this subject, as he's got me hook... line... and sinker.

Tozer: Mystery of the Holy Spirit.......2007-07-28
A must read for all those seeking to learn and know more about the Third PERSON of the Godhead.
Tozer does not wax eloquent in this book, but his "speaking voice" still carries sound Biblical and foundational teaching necessary, at a time in Church History, in which, the Holy Spirit is often presented as one who embraces every kind of fanatcism now running the gammet in Pentecostal circles.
