Whether you’re meeting her for the first time or have known her for years—
Christy Is a Forever Friend
A Time to Cherish
For Labor Day weekend, Christy Miller is on a houseboat at Lake Shasta. What could be better? She’s about to find out! Before they know it, both Christy and her best friend, Katie, are receiving some unexpected male attention. But somehow these best friends are at odds just when they should be having the most fun together. Christy soon realizes that sometimes you have to stand back and let people make their own decisions, even when they’re headed for a fall. And although life is never perfect, this is definitely a time to cherish.
Sweet Dreams
Christy Miller’s senior year is delicious, especially the time she spends with Todd. But her best friend, Katie, is struggling—she’s realized she needs to break up with Michael. It’s not easy! Fortunately both Doug and Disneyland help Katie to cheer up. Christy is learning to let go and get out of the way so that her friends can become who they’re meant to be...even when it jeopardizes her own sweet dreams.
A Promise Is Forever
Christy Miller’s going to Europe! It’s a three-week missions trip with Doug, Katie, and Tracy. First stop: London for some sightseeing, and then a castle in the English countryside for group training. Christy is so excited to be headed for Belfast with her friends—despite some tension among them. But when plans go topsy-turvy at the last minute, Christy must face her fears and realize that some things are more important than her own comfort...and that even when she can’t foresee the end result, a promise truly is forever.
Story Behind the Book
“The Christy Miller series was actually born when a group of thirteen-year-olds challenged me to write a novel. I’d been questioning the content of their favorite books when they said, ‘Why don’t you write a book for us?’ I told them no, I only wrote picture books. But they persisted: ‘How hard could it be? We’ll even tell you what to write! We want a love story with teenagers at the beach.’ And there you go. Summer Promise first released seventeen years ago and is now translated into five languages. I continue to hear from readers all over the world, many girls saying that they gave their life to Christ after reading Summer Promise . I love that!” —Robin Jones Gunn

My 19 year old daughter loves these series. She's been reading them since she was 10 years old and still thoroughly enjoys them.
The Christy Miller novel that fans have been waiting for.......2007-06-27
Christy Miller has been waiting years for longtime love interest Todd to make a commitment. In A TIME TO CHERISH, the 10th installment in Robin Jones Gunn's Christy Miller series, Christy and her friends set off on a summer adventure onboard a houseboat, which just might help the on-again off-again couple take the next step in their relationship.
Sure enough, the romantic scenery and lots of pushing from Christy's overbearing Aunt Marti do the trick, and Christy and Todd finally declare themselves a couple. Naturally, Christy could not be more excited. As she revels in the joy of being able to call Todd her boyfriend, plans for the future go into overdrive. While Aunt Marti begins thinking ahead to college degrees and their wedding, Christy attempts to simply slow down and enjoy the moment.
However, even this proves to be tough, as best friends Katie and Doug do not necessarily share in her enthusiasm. Doug has had a crush on Christy for years, so her relationship with Todd has put an end to his hopes. And while Katie is happy for the new couple, it only reminds her that she is still missing a significant other in her life. Determined for Katie to be just as happy as she is, Christy begins a series of disastrous attempts to set her up with Doug.
As it turns out, though, Katie might not need Christy's help at all. When they return to school for their senior year, Katie immediately becomes infatuated with an intriguing exchange student from Europe, and he is certainly returning her attention. Christy tries to warn Katie that the relationship might be dangerous, but Katie refuses to listen to her and their friendship reaches a breaking point. Is Christy just jealous, or is Katie really heading for trouble?
A TIME TO CHERISH is the Christy Miller novel that fans have been waiting for. After nine books filled with "will they or won't they" drama, Christy and Todd finally decide to make it official and begin dating. Avid readers of the series no doubt will be relieved to see the long, drawn-out drama come to an end. The book also manages to deal with complicated relationships between family, friends and significant others in a realistic and positive way. At the same time, Gunn leaves A TIME TO CHERISH with an open ending that certainly will have readers eager for more adventures with Christy Miller.

Best volume yet!.......2007-03-28
This is my favorite volume of the young Christy Miller books. I cried over the last two so much. I love when Christy and Todd are together, they're so perfect for each other! I've read all of the Christy books, and all of them made me want a hero like Todd.
Incredible!.......2007-03-25
No two ways about it, I love these books, and having a three-in-one version makes it all the better. This book contains the concluding volumes in the Christy Miller series, and it's interesting to see how she's progressed from Summer Promise.
In a Time to Cherish, Christy's relationship with Todd couldn't be better as they offically define that they're boyfriend-girlfriend. However, Christy's relationship with her best friend, Katie, on the the other hand, isn't going so well when Katie, desperate for a boyfriend and feeling left out, begins dating Michael, a non-Christian. This story was enthralling, and included some very sweet moments between Christy and Todd. It really inspired me to 'hold out for that hero.'
In Sweet Dreams, after Katie's painful break-up with Michael comes slow healing, and Christy's beginning to think that everything is good again. However, she has no idea that she'll soon be faced with one of the hardest decisions she's ever had to face. I cried at the ending of this book, yet it hit me hard, making me wonder if I could make the same sacrifice as Christy did.
A Promise is Forever would have to be one of my favorite books in the whole series. A large period of time has elapsed since Sweet Dreams, and we find Christy traveling to England for a mission's trip with Doug who's her new boyfriend, Tracy, and Katie. She expects the trip to be a good way to serve God, but she doesn't anticipate any of the speed bumps along the way, such as conlict in her group and trouble with Doug, but most of all, being sent to Spain to serve, away from the rest of her friends. This book will have you in tears at it's touching ending. A fun thing was that we're introduced to Sierra Jensen, Robin Jones Gunn's next book series. Having read the Sierra Jensen books already, it was interesting to see Sierra from Christy's point of view.
Check these books out!
Christy Miller Collection, vol. 4.......2006-06-26
I love this series. Robin Jones Gunn fills each book with drama, adventure, romance, and mystery. Every time I get one of Gunn's books, I can't put it down. I would definitely reccomend this book and all her other books to any teen girl.

Kimberly Raye finishes up her Farrel Sisters Trilogy with SWEET AS SUGAR, HOT AS SPICE, and boy, does she go out with a bang! If you haven't read the stories of Skye Farrel in Kiss Me Once, Kiss Me Twice or that of Xandra Farrel in Sometimes Naughty, Sometimes Nice (Warner Forever), you'll want to pick those two up at the bookstore when you run out to purchase SWEET AS SUGAR, HOT AS SPICE.
Eve Farrel is starting to panic. She's recently watched both her older and younger sister find their happily-ever-afters and settle down in marital bliss-to the complete shock, dismay, and chagrin of their very famous feminist and anti-marriage mother, Jacqueline. Now that mom only has one single daughter left, she's determined that Eve will stay that way, no matter what. Jacqueline is driving Eve nuts, to the point that she now believes there's only one way to get her mother to leave her alone, once and for all-find a man, fast, and get married, even faster.
Fortunately for Eve, there's a man who is having a very similar problem. Linc "Shooter" Adams is known on the NASCAR circuit as a bad boy, a skirt-chaser who knows no limits-on or off the track. Everyone and their brother knows that Linc's family is urging him to follow in his father's footsteps by becoming Mayor of his hometown, and nothing Linc says to the contrary will convince the constituency that he doesn't want a life of politics. In the current poll, he's even ahead of his best friend, Craig Sanders, the man Linc wants more than anything to win the election. Desperate measures are called for, and taking a very unsuitable woman as his wife just might do the trick.
Eve is definitely an unsuitable politician's wife. As the owner of Sugar & Spice Sinema, a company that produces how-to sexual videos for couples who want to up their sex lives a few notches, Linc knows that marrying Eve Farrel will stop any Mayoral races cold. As for Eve, what better way to get her mother off her back than to marry Shooter, the ladies man of NASCAR?
Kimberly Raye has written a laugh-out-loud romance story that has two people thrown together as a matter of convenience, and learning to love each other as a matter of the heart. Eve finds out pretty quickly that Linc isn't as bad as he'd like the world to believe, and Linc in turn realizes that there's more to Eve than a sexy body. As these two find a balance between the desires of their family and the desires of their own bodies, it's a joy to be along for the ride.
Not as good as the first two books.......2006-11-22
I was looking forward to reading this book since I had enjoyed the first two books in this series, but this one was kind of dull. Many of the flashbacks were annoying and I don't understand why they were there as they don't contribute anything to this story. Reading this book made me feel like the author just rushed through writing it in order to get another book in the series done.
The book starts out at Xandra and Beau's wedding (from "something naughty something nice"), where Eve and Linc decide to enter a marriage out of convenience. He does it so he will not be elected mayor in his former hometown and can continue his racing career without being bothered by his parents, she does it just to annoy her mother. How lame is that?
We lean that Eve and Beau have sex, however she fakes her orgasms until chapter 18 when Linc, who is portrait as the typical bachelor, mysteriously seems to change overnight. They start to have a fulfilling sex life and all in a sudden Linc becomes a devoted husband. The two of them finally decide to stay married and have a double wedding reception as Eves mother decides to marry her longterm boyfriend (and father of her three daughters) Donovan.
All in all this book is not as good as the first two. It is too unrealistic and predictable, which makes it hard to identify with any of the main characters.
Hysterical and totally sensual story.......2006-03-28
Eve has always been the black sheep of the Farrel family; she takes pleasure in trying her ultra feminist mother's patience at every chance. The owner of a production company, Eve makes and markets sexstructional videos. When she suddenly finds herself as the only single daughter, she's suddenly cast in the good girl role. What's a bad girl to do? If you're Eve, you will find the most misogynistic man in the world and marry him fast.
Linc Adams is the latest sexy NASCAR bad boy. He got into racing a little late in life - trying to his hand at a law career first. But he decides he does not want to follow in his father, grandfather, and great grandfather's footsteps by seeking a career in politics. But he owes a lot to his best friend Craig. So he decides to run for mayor in his small Georgia hometown, but does everything he can to make sure he's not elected; even if it means marrying the most inappropriate woman he can find. When Linc and Eve join forces to solve each others problems, you'd think it's a mismatch made in heaven. It's not like this is forever - just until November. But the two have smoldering chemistry and soon begin to realize that they are not actually so mismatched after all.
In a secondary story, Eve's mother, feminist talk show host Jacqueline Farrel is furious that her life partner and father of her three children actually has the audacity to ask her to marry him. When she moves out and shows up on Eve's doorstep, Eve and Linc have to put on a show to make her flee. What will happen after the election - will Linc and Eve be able to go their separate ways? Will Eve's mom and dad settle down and make their three daughters legitimate?
Raye's comedic timing, great delivery and smoldering love scenes will keep even the coldest reader warm. Unlike most authors who run out of steam halfway through a series, Raye definitely saved the best for last!
Hot NASCAR Action.......2006-03-21
This was my first Kimberly Raye purchase. I bought it because I love NASCAR. Ms. Raye did a great job of weaving NASCAR realistically into the storyline. Linc and Eve are a great couple, they have passion, humor and that intangible quality... chemistry.
Eve concocts a plan that is so outrageous it just might work. They meet at her sister's wedding and before the night is through, they're married. The idea is to use the shock value of the wedding to get Eve's mother off her back as well as keep Linc out of local politics. The plan works, but not in the way either of them expected. You'll have to read it to see what happens.
I have now read and thoroughly enjoyed the other 2 Farrel sister novels as well. "Kiss Me Once, Kiss Me Twice" and Sometimes Naughty, Sometimes, Nice"
Too Good to Pass up.......2005-12-27
Bad boy + sex video producer=love.
Eve and Linc each have their own family problems and figure that
getting together(i.e. marriage)will perhaps solve their problems.
Eve's mom wants her to stay unattached but is driving her crazy so Eve decides she will marry so mom leaves her alone; into the picture comes Linc, Nascar driver, with his family pushing him to run for mayor. He thinks that his chances to win the race(mayoral) will be finished when he marries Eve(sex video producer).
What each of them doesn't realize is that they each have something to learn about the other and what love is.

George P. Pelecanos's latest book is not only a tremendously detailed and emotionally powerful crime novel but also a virtual compendium and update of his other excellent novels that are all similarly rooted in the nonpolitical neighborhoods of Washington, D.C. Brought back for major roles are Marcus Clay, Dimitri Karras, and other important players from King Suckerman. There are poignant cameos by Randolph of Shoedog as well as the two Nick Stefanos--grandfather and grandson--from The Big Blowdown, A Firing Offense, Down by the River Where the Dead Men Go, and Nick's Trip. As always, Pelecanos uses jabs of pop music, basketball, clothes, and cars to quickly root us in time and place.
It's 1986, 10 years after the Bicentennial events of King Suckerman, so a woman in her 30s wears a Susanna Hoffs-style haircut "from the cover of the 'All Over the Place' album, not the redone look off the new LP." Dimitri, after a brief career as a teacher, is now working full-time for his friend Marcus's expanded chain of four Real Right record stores; he drives a BMW 325 and wears his graying hair moussed and spiked. (He also snorts more cocaine than Al Pacino did in Scarface, one of several films used as icons here.) The doomed basketball star Len Bias--just finishing his college career and about to sign a huge deal with the Boston Celtics--is on TV screens everywhere, admired equally by the former local hoops hero Clay and a conflicted cop named Kevin Murphy who has misplaced his moral compass. The complicated, satisfying plot involves $25,000 stolen from a drug dealer; several children in peril; smart adults who screw up their lives in dumb ways; and the speed with which violence festers and explodes in unexpected directions. --Dick Adler
Book Description
It's March madness. And the college boys are playing basketball on TV. But on the streets of D.C., the homeboys are dealing, dissing, dying. From behind plate glass, with an 80s backbeat pounding in his brain, Marcus Clay watches it all happen, and prays that he can make a go with his downtown record store. Then a car comes careening down U Street. And what Marcus sees next will plunge him into the middle of a war.
A drug runner is decapitated in the crash. A bystander--a white boy desperate to buy a woman's love--snatches a bag of cash from the wreck. And a prince of crime wants it back. . . . For Marcus's buddy, Dimitri Karras, the mayhem is a chance to make a score. For a pair of dirty cops it's a chance to get free. And for dozens of lives swept up into the maelstrom, it's just another springtime in America's capital, where the game is played for keeps . . .

A Sweet Surprise.......2007-02-16
Initially I had read all of the novels with protagonist Derek Strange, and there wasn't much history of Nick Stephanos in those novels. It was good to get more background on Nick, though he seems to be a clone of Dimitri Karras since both of them have lives that similar notwithstanding that Nick was a private investigator while Dimitri was a professor. There was introduction to Marcus Clay who was a much more interesting character or clone of Derek Strange, in that he has a similar motivation to see that justice is done. It was an interesting story though I feel that I have spoiled some aspects of it for those who haven't read it yet. The drug dealer antagonist seem almost comic book in their villiany but are well balanced against the crooked cops, one of which turns out to be a hero and the other goes down as an atypical villian. The story was more like an episode of the Wire. I preferred Right As Rain to this one but it's still a good read to pick up to escape to 80's version of DC. The city hasn't changed much in the way of senseless crime. Pelacanos remains a hard-edged writer of crime fiction.
First Time Pelecanos reader.......2004-04-25
This is my first time reading a pelecanos book, not even sure why I chose to read it. I have to admit, that I read the first 100 pages, sporadically over a week. I really was not being pulled in by the plot, but I wanted to keep reading because of the characters. They are realistic, in language, habits and all have depth.
The characters do stay with you long after the book. The ending may have been a little too clean, but it was still realistic. The details about the music and the streets seemd to take away from the story. It was just too much detail. It was DC in 1988, so the backdrop of a Presedential election seems to be completely ignored, considering how much detail he put into other areas.
The Len Bias backdrop was a great backstory.
i definitely want to read mroe from Pelecanos.
sex, drugs, rock & roll ... perhaps the best from Pelecanos?.......2003-10-20
'The Sweet Forever' is one of several novels from Pelecanos based in urban Washington, this time in the mid-1980s. The city is an absolute mess; violence, drugs and corruption reign supreme. In this backdrop Pelecanos weaves a story of inter-racial strife, heartbreak, disillusionment, and despair. Yes, this books packs it all in without appearing to be forced, preachy, or sentimental. While most books from Pelecanos sort of delve into these areas in one way or another 'The Sweet Forever' really succeeds in every way. [As you can tell, I really liked it. :-)]
But the book isn't perfect. Without trying to explain its somewhat complex and interwoven story let me just say the ending seems to fit together just a bit too nicely. I would have liked a least one loose end, which would a been a better reflection of reality. The ending wasn't disappointing, but rather it could have been just a bit more powerful.
Bottom line: my favorite so far from Pelecanos after reading nearly of his books. Strongly recommended.
Well Done and Engrossing.......2003-01-15
The Sweet Forever is a well done and engrossing crime novel. Pelecanos' story shifts from the Washington DC gang members to the corrupt cops to honest people just trying to get by and back again. It's not really about one crime, like a murder that must be solved. Rather it concerns a chain reaction of events which occur after a bag of drug money is taken from a flaming car. The characters are real and will stay with you after you put the novel down. The resolution is satisfying--nothing canned or predictible here. The Sweet Forever is an enjoyable, engrossing read.
It's only rock 'n roll . . . ........2002-11-25
Pelecanos is one of those elusive writers who avoids (either by design or subject matter) the spotlight. Like James Crumley, his body of work is substantial and applauded by those who continually seek him out. He seemingly has yet to break into the Top 40, to coin a music phrase he would probably agree with, but it seems inevitable.
Marcus Clay, up from mean streets, is a successful record store owner. Actually four record stores. So successful, Pelecanos points out, his wife Elaine has left him.
Right there is an extraordinary subtlety. Pelecanos paints his black characters with the same confusing mish-mosh of emotional color as he does his white characters, saying, 'we are all the same, all confused, all looking for love, losing it, trying to recapture it.'
Marcus resists the encroachment of drug dealers in the location of his stores and that resistance turns not surprisingly to bloodshed.
Karras, his colorblind Greek friend, suffers the moral dilemma of his own drug habit and recognition of the consequences of his acts.
Very compelling; very noir. Highly recommensded.
The only caveat I might suggest is that you may want to read some of the earlier works to get a better grip on the personality of the characters. Kudos.

Will Simmons Vs Ken Matthews.......2005-04-03
Will Simmons is gaga over winning the University of Mivhigan Scholarship, and takes Melissa and his Parents out to breakfast at Chez Lorraine,a block away from House of Java. Jeremy Aames decides to Quit House of Java, because of Jessica ana Jade. Ally Scott[The House of Java's owner's daughter] decides she wants Jessica to fire Jade, for slacking off,for calling in sick when she isn't, then comes in with Jeremy. Will Simmons gets hurt at a football game, and the doctors say he can never play again.
Book #20 in SVH Senior Year Series.......2003-09-18
In "Nothing Is Forever," Will Simmons and Melissa Fox are still in seventh heaven over Will's scholarship at the University of Michigan, while Ken Matthews is just the opposite. He's jealous of Will's success, and completely crushed by his father's blatant disappointment in him. I never paid a lot of attention to Ken's storyline before, but I could really empathize with him in this book.
Next up, Jeremy Aames wants to quit at House of Java for obvious reasons--both his exes work there. But Jessica Wakefield is trying to get Jade Wu fired instead. Finally!
Andy Marsden reemerges from the shadows and outs himself to Conner McDermott, but without the reaction he thought he'd get. And Conner...well, nothing much has changed there. He's still stumbling around drunk, as usual.
This was a good SVHSY book, but it certainly wasn't exceptional. Nothing really new or dramatic happened, and the ending wasn't a big surprise either, considering the book title and foreshadowing on page 92. Still, worth a "5" for the writing.
GOOD.......2002-01-07
I rate all SVSY books 5 stars becuz they're all really good even if there are some better than others. I cannot stand Conner in this book. He's angry with his mother for actually being there for him when that's what he's wanted all his life. I mean, he saw the effects of alcohol on her and hated it and now he's turning into an alcoholic. And why is he drinking anyways? He got back together with Liz and he even told her he loved her and she said the same to him. And now he's chewing her out when she tries to help him. He thinks the world sucks when it's just him. Also, Ken's dad is sooo mean. He literally told him he was a loser. But I was really happy for Ken when he got to play in the football game. And I was really glad when he leveled his dad with a cold stare when his dad was suddenly proud of him. I couldn't believe I actually felt sorry for Will and Melissa when he got injured, but I was. And Jess and Jeremy belong together. But I think she sorta did deserve the dissing he gave her when she took him to the beach to prove Jade was cheatin on him, but I guess that was in the last book. I'm glad Jess is firing Jade who, by the way, I've never liked. She's too sarcastic and, I mean, if she still actually thinks cheating on Jeremy was okay (which she does) then she has some serious problems. I was really glad Jeremy made up with Jess and I really don't want him to quit either. And why is everybody just throwing the whole Andy/gay issue aside. It's like he just told them and they were like "Good for you, now back to my problem". Okay, maybe not quite that rude, but still. Overall, this wasn't the best book but it was good.
Good but dissapointed by the outcome.......2001-07-12
This book was really good but before i bought it i read the back and I thoght there was gonna be this whole breakup thing with Will and Melissa but there was nothing!! Actully something REALLY big happens to Will but no breakup. This wasnt one of my favorites in the series but you have to read it to know whats going on. I do believe that besides the whole Melissa Will thing everything is good. You should still get the book though. Conner and Liz are having problems again and Maria is trying to help Ken out with all his "dad" problems and Ken gets his big break!! I was exited for him!! Tia is the same but something big happens to Andy. I felt so bad for him!! Get this book but dont expect a lot from the Melissa and Will ending.
This was one of the best........2001-06-24
I really liked this story very much. In the start they talk about Will and Melissa's perfect life and how will's life could have been Ken's life. Ken and his father keep fighting. I really think his father is the jerk of all jerks. Then there goes the triple "J" story line(Jade, Jermey, Jessica)which seems like it's never going to end. Jessica goes to the boss ad tells her that Jade is slacking off at work and now Jessica has to fire Jade. Jermey is is still confused with theses two women and working with them at HOJ is making it worse so he decieds to quit. Then there goes the Conner/Liz storyline. Conner thinks his does not have a problem when he does. he has no respect for his mother or his girlfriend. I really think Liz should dump Conner he's worth nothing. Then at the biggest football game of Will's life he get's a bad knee injury and might not be able to play football ever again but there's a good side, Ken plays a terrfic game and might be staring QB again. But Maria is worried that with ken being popular again she might lose him. Overall this book is the bomb.

Hi,I have been reading Sweet Valley for ages.I have nearly cried(but not)at the todd-liz storylines in svu,as I remember the 2 getting together in svtwins and sweet valley high.Ive always wished the writer could get the 2 college students back together. But I am starting to think that even if people are together from childhood it doesnt mean thay are always meant to be.
Todd and Elizabeth forever!.......2001-05-09
ELIZABETH AND TODD FOREVER is such a sweet and romantic book; how could all of you SVU fans not like it?! Todd Wilkins and Elizabeth Wakefield make the perfect, cutest couple ever...This book is realistic and it brings up a great message which is that you never forget your first love...no matter how hard you try! An awesome read and a must for any Sweet Valley University fan.

A Gift That Outlasts the Giver.......2002-01-16
A Letter is a Gift Forever, as is Florence Littauer's book by the same name. A beautiful book that is as lovely to read as it is to hold, it blends the blessing of past niceties with future joy. Florence Littauer demonstrates how a written word of love, encouragment, thanks or even forgiveness from the heart outlasts the actual heart. Drawing on a collection of letters that spans the generations, these written words inspire us all to write to those whom we love and care for, it's never too late. The joy received from the blessing sent in a letter will last forever.
