Book Description

This investigative account details how America's economic and intelligence associations with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan led to the devastating September 11 attacks and illustrates the role that private military companies are playing in George W. Bush's "new world order." Based on personal interviews, never-before-published classified documents, and extensive research, this examination details the criminal forces thought to rule the world today—the Bush cartel, Russian-Ukranian-Israeli mafia, and Wahhabist Saudi terror financiers—revealing links between these groups and disastrous terrorist events.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting book.......2007-01-10

This book explains the real ongoing of the "New World Order" without the hypocrisy which usually undermines most media outlets.

2 out of 5 stars Poppycock.......2006-09-20

This is political `poppycock', as each party in the USA continue to `blackmail' their opponent by any means possible, to the consternation and shocking surprise of millions of people who have not yet been nourished with this sort of `democratic civility'.(!!!!)
Mostly that the fall of 2006 being an election year in the USA, many Republicans wouldn't like you to read this book, published in May 2006 after thirty months under production, and authored by Wayne Madsen - a former naval officer - described as `investigative journalist and syndicated columnist'.
In plain English, the word `jaded' if taken as adjective and/or verb, it may mean: dulled, satiated or dissipated by overindulgence. As a noun it means: worthless or disreputable.
It is to be noted that Serge Brammertz delivers his latest Commission Report on the murder probe of Rafiq Hariri by the end of September 2006, WHY confuse the investigation process with this type of 'poppycock'???

this book is a must read if we are to survive as a democracy.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of Journalistic Courage.......2006-06-06

Madsen tells the reader the intricate details on how the spider web is built then lets you decide if that web was built to catch prey or spun as a conversation piece. He is what journalists were in our grandparents time. His independence seems to harness the trust of honest people in the intel-politico world. He factual illustrates why George W. Bush has done more damage to America's international reputation than any president in history. The so called "suicides" he investigates is worth the price of the book.

5 out of 5 stars James Bond's successor........2007-05-04

Fred Austin does a fine job in carrying on the William W. Johnstone legacy. Lt. Col. Arthur Jensen is a hero for today, an American cut from the cloth of the men who built this country.

I am a new fan of Johnstone, having only read Preacher's Fortune, a five star novel in its genre.

Lt. Col. Arthur Jensen, the great great great grandson of Smoke Jensen, is the politically incorrect protagonist we have been waiting for--James Bond's and Mat Helm's successor.

Austin's characters captures some of the idiots masquerading as Congressmen, Senators and talking heads. This is a book for real Americans, one that will induce nervous breakdowns in the far left apologists.

I am eagerly waiting for the next Black Ops novel.

I am eagerly waiting for the next Black Ops novel.

4 out of 5 stars enjoyable AND necessary reading.......2007-03-20

It is refreshing that an author has been brave enough to tackle this subject in an honest way. So many of today's books dealing with terrorism are distorted by what some call "political correctness" and others call "multiculturalism." Jihadists don't believe in multiculturalism. They believe in monoculturalism--theirs.

If you want the facts behind the fiction, read While America Sleeps: How Islam, Immigration and Indoctrination are Destroying America from Within.

5 out of 5 stars Black Ops: American Jihad.......2006-06-29

The author has done a great job taking one of his western characters and bringing it into today's world of conflict. It was one of his best. I could not put it down once I started reading. I hope this is the beginning of a new character.

5 out of 5 stars One of best books I have ever read.......2006-05-05

This is awesome book related to current events, far left media, and even back to events of Viet Nam War. Like most of Johnstone's books, it is also a "pager turner". I look forward to another with the main characters in the near future. I hope millions read this book.

4 out of 5 stars The good stuff!.......2004-03-07

This book is a wonderful collection of rules for playing high-powered characters combined with a nightmarish conspiracy theory that makes just a little too much sense for my comfort.

Although gamers may not want to play in the world presented by the book (it's HARD playing a character with that many skills and advantages), GM's can dredge the well-constructed world for inspiration in other settings and use the many short-cut rules for keeping their own high-point campaigns running smoothly.

4 out of 5 stars Not what you might think.......2000-10-06

This world book is a combination of diverse elements; it's part Illuminati, part Men in Black, part X-Files, part Call of Cthulhu, and part Paranoia-- all at the 700 point level! The book details The Company that works behind the scenes, and The Conspiracy that keeps it hidden. Players have the opportunity to become operatives working behind the scenes and handling situations that civillians just couldn't deal with. I feel somewhat Illuminated just from reading this book. I'm just itching to start a Black Ops campaign in my group!

3 out of 5 stars pros and cons.......2000-01-27

My feelings on this title are mixed. It is well written and organized. The idea is interesting (basically an rpg version of the Men in Black movie). It has very limited usefulness in any other type of campaign. The characters are very powerful (700 points). They do not cross well and are sort of hard to handle for a GM. Buy this is you loved Men in Black, but otherwise I would reccomend gurps illuminati.

Book Description

Just prior to a precedent–shattering U.S.–Chinese weapons treaty signing at a Beijing summit, a covert CIA operation to place sensors that record low–level underground nuclear tests near the PRC's secret site at Lopnur in Western China goes awry.

The CIA team is captured by Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) guerillas. With the clock ticking and the summit approaching, the President mobilizes a top–secret unit–Task Force 160 of the Army's Special Operations Air Regiment栮d orders a team of Spec Warriors to rescue the American intel squirrels before the Chinese find out what has happened, cancel the summit, and embarrass the U.S. Then, satellite intelligence reveals that not only have renegade Uzbeks captured the Americans, they have also seized a thirty–year–old, capacitor–fused nuclear device from the Chinese military.

Within hours, an ultra–sensitive National Reconnaissance Office FORTAE (Fast Onboard Recognition of Transient Atomic Experiments) Ⲯiffer⟳atellite indicates the IMU has somehow armed the devise. National Reconnaissance Office photos show the nuke and the hostages heading for the Pamirs and Afghanistan, where remnants of the IMU␳ al Qaeda allies still hold out. That is followed by a National Security Agency communications intercept: the Chinese president has secretly dispatched a Zhongdui (Special Forces) unit from the Jin Jiancha Zhu (Tactical Reconnaissance Office) of the People's Liberation Army to hunt down the terrorists and retrieve the nuke.

The only good news is that Beijing doesn't know the IMU is holding six American hostages渥t. Now, the U.S. team must not only beat the Zhongdui to the IMU guerrillas so it can extract the CIA team covertly, the rescuers must also take a Department of Energy expert to defuse the unstake nuke without leaving any American fingerprints.

4 out of 5 stars Exciting Black Ops Mission.......2007-03-18

Four CIA operatives have been covertly inserted into China to plant devices that will measure if the Chinese are secretly testing smaller yield nuclear devices. They are ambushed by a group of Islamic terrorists who have also highjacked an unstable older nuclear device. The President orders Major Michael Ritzik to lead a top secret element of Delta Force into the area to rescue the CIA men and disarm the nuclear device. Along with the Delta Force group Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy Tracy Wei-Liu is added to the group to actually deactivate the device. Several Chinese gunships are encountered and dispatched. The escape is made in a captured Chinese helicopter. Weisman writes authoritatively. The book moves along quite well. Though, I think it bogs down a bit during the planning stage of the mission. Still, quite a worthwhile read.

5 out of 5 stars Weisman continues top notch.......2006-03-11

While some things require a leap of faith, and not a little imagination, this story is very much the work of a master story teller. It isn't anything like the books he does with Dick Marcinko, but that takes away nothing; the two have very different styles, and this is a different story. BRAVO!

5 out of 5 stars A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++.......2006-01-04

WOW! this book is so amazing! IT IS SO EXCITING AND EXHILERATING! ITS SO GOOD! So far I am at page 8, I'm about to read more of it. I recommend this book to page 8, its so cool. For a full review of the book, read other peoples so you can listen to someone who got to, at least page 9. My favorite part of the book so far is when he puts his glasses on, ITS SO INTENSE!

P.S. The book is utterly confusing.

5 out of 5 stars SOAR.......2005-06-08

The story is simple and straightforward: A clandestine CIA team operating at the Chinese-Uzbek border are taken captive by Islamic guerillas, who have also hijacked a tactical, nuclear weapon. The Combat Applications Group, CAG, aka Delta Force, is sent in to quietly rescue the CIA team and retrieve the nuke without getting caught by Chinese special forces. What makes the novel stand out is the level of detail taken to portray the planning and execution of the mission at every step of the way. The title is an odd choice since the Special Operations Aviation Regiment do not play as large a role as the title suggests. A more appropriate title would have been CAG or Delta, but it's a superior thriller nonetheless, and probably one of the most realistic portrayals of the Delta Force in fiction. Hopefully the author will turn out more books like this, but his next ones (Jack in the Box; Direct Action) focus more so around the CIA.

3 out of 5 stars Research overwhelms the story.......2004-07-18

If you're looking for a fairly quick, Clancy-esque beach read, you could do worse than SOAR. I know, that's not exactly a ringing endorsement. But this action yarn has all the realism in technical details and battle engagements that you'd wish for-and for some people that's all they want.

SOAR is about a secret Delta Force rescue mission to extract a covert CIA operations team from western China after the latter has been captured by Uighur terrorists. The "Mission Impossible"-like rescue also involves a lot of shooting, bomb-making, and the defusing of a nuclear weapon. It's basically an action movie (with a lamentable lack of gratuitous sex).

The problem is that the characters are only sketchily drawn; they basically exist for their roles or skills. One might as well have called them "CIA Guy No. 1," "CIA Guy No. 2," "Delta Guy No. 1," etc. The guys in "The Dirty Dozen" had more personality. The politicos in Washington seem to have a little more depth, but that's at least in part because John Weisman seems to have adapted the personalities of some of our current officeholders for these roles. (President Forrest admittedly doesn't seem much like President Bush.) For some reason, there's a token female character, Tracy Wei-Liu, that's dragged through the story line, ostensibly to defuse the nuke. Perhaps the real reason is the short diversion in the latter part of the book in which the main character, Mike Ritzik, engages in a bit of repartee with her on the morality of killing in battle. But Ritzik just gets royally pissed off, and the subject is dropped. In the lead-up to the climax, the characters seem to get sidetracked into a few exchanges like this that, to me, seem unlikely when you're literally under the gun. I guess the author is trying to score a few political points amidst the fun.

I, for one, found the preparations for insertion more interesting and exciting than the actual engagement. The battle scenes just seemed a tad tedious after a while. However that may be, I'll look forward to future works by Mr. Weisman. If he can make the people as real as the technology, then he might make something really worthwhile.

5 out of 5 stars Even More Relevant Today.......2005-07-21

John J. Nutter's The CIA's Black Ops traces the history of the use of covert operations by Cold War-era policymakers as a "third option," used in situations in which neither diplomacy nor overt military action were deemed desirable. A political scientist and not a historian, the author argues that covert operations were unavoidable (and, at times, necessary) during the Cold War and still are in the 21st century, and that policymakers' accountability is equally unavoidable.

Nutter uses mostly secondary sources, many of which were written by participants in the covert operations described, to craft his analysis in a lively, entertaining style. The target audience is the average, intelligent reader rather than the academic community, which presumably is already familiar with both the "spook" tales and the analysis.

This book has two significant, interrelated strengths that make it a must-read. First, the author's style makes the subject matter accessible to the lay reader, who, second, is able to apprehend the author's careful development of the paradoxes and dangers of using cloaked means to realize diplomatic ends in an open society. All too often in this day and age, the average citizen is willing to believe the government's official line and not reflect on the possibility that a very different truth actually exists beneath the thick layer of spin.

The CIA's Black Ops is a well-crafted cautionary tale and an enjoyable read that is even more relevant today, five years after its publication.

3 out of 5 stars Not a History Book; More an Overview of US Black Ops Policy.......2001-10-27

...which made it tiresome and a bit frustrating to read. I was hoping/expecting more details on the nature of the operations themselves. I agree with the author that the use of black ops is a clear policy of the US, and there are far-reaching effects as a result. But that is more of the "why". If you want more of the "how", read elsewhere.

BTW this is not to say that this is a poorly written book. It is very engaging especially for those unfamiliar with the subjects and the history behind various operations. But be aware that this is more of a book aimed at a college level course - ie provoking discussions - than being semi-sensationalistic.

5 out of 5 stars Factual Fear.......2000-06-25

Nutter has done his homework in throughly researching this work. Unlike many in the political world, he has no axe to grind, and no need to pump himself up. He delivers a solidly written, must-read book. Given what has happened since September 11, 2001, you are doing yourself a great disservice if you don't read this book. The CIA has had issues for quite some time as Nutter points out. The events of 9-1-1 just make the background that he presents all the more significant to the International Relations student.

2 out of 5 stars Covert Action Rehashed.......2000-06-01

This is a disappointing review of covert activities by the CIA based largely on old sources. There's nothing new here, and one of the faults lies in Nutter's reliance on outdated sources.

The author is clearly no believer in the efficacy of covert action, but even here he fails to make a strong case why it should be rejected as a foreign policy instrument, concluding that as long as power politics reign, Presidents and leaders of the intelligence community will resort to what they see as a "third option" between diplomacy and the use of force.

The book is riddled with error beginning with crediting Gen Gehlen with covert action in the Baltics and the Ukraine under CIA control. It is, as a previous reviewer has noted, flawed by a lack of documentation. Nutter, for example, insinuates that the CIA was somehow involved in stealing Jimmy Carter's briefing books in preparation for the 1980 Presidential debates.

There is nothing here on a host of covert actions which have long been known to insiders, ranging from the hostage escape in Tehran to prominent agents of influence. Covert action should be a subject of serious study and debate, but this is a useful compendium of failures and abuses in the Cold War. It says little about how --- or whether --- covert action should be used to combat current anhd future threats.

2 out of 5 stars Somewhat of a Disappointment.......2000-05-21

As a graduate student of security policy at Columbia University, I was excited to read Nutter's book. Although it raised interesting questons, it was somewhat disappointing. Information is largely anecdotal and lightly supported and analyzed. Unusually poor editing makes for a sometimes irritating read for those who care about such things. I appreciate Nutter's main aim, which is to examine--and question--the wisdom and risks inherent in covert action. However, he falls victim himself to the alluring mystique of "Black Ops" (one look at book's jacket gives good clues as to what's inside). I'm sure Nutter had fun researching and writing the book, and you may find it fun to read; I did, despite myself. And there's the rub--it's easy for those attempting to show how "Black Ops" substitute for coherent foreign policy to succumb to their dramatic veneer and avoid a real and necessary scholarly contribution on the subject. Read the book, but think for yourself.

The Jake Green saga continues as he becomes a paid, but not recognized, employee of the government. He forms a team from Detachment X-Ray and new recruits for an eight-man terrorist-tracking team. A new terrorist group, Allah's Army, has formed and is ready for raids into Canada and the United States. The first contact was a four-man team known as the Fist of Allah. This team was brutal because their signature was the beheading of a young woman. After this first encounter, Jake and his team chased Fist of Allah through the upper Midwest and the mid-Atlantic states. In between the confrontations with Allah's Army, the team conducted other operations in Canada, Gaza City, on the Gaza Strip, and a small bayou town in Louisiana.

Black Ops by Jess Parker is the third book in the Jake Green Saga. As with Detachment X-ray and Covert Avengers, Black Ops will keep you rivited to your seat as you go on the adventure of a lifetime with not only an extraordinary character in Jake Green, but also the friends that help him rid the world of some of the vilest people. As you read Black Ops you will relate to the places and characters of this incredible book. Jess Parker is a master storyteller with the uncanny ability to hold the readers attention from the very first book in this series to the last. I highly recommend Black Ops to any one, and strongly recommend that you start with his first book, Detachment X-ray and continue with Covert Avengers and then Black Ops as these books will be ones that you will read time and time again and will make an excellent addition to your personal library.

As the new Millenium starts, a cult leader decides to bring his Fascist dream to America. Supplying arms to various factions, he hopes to start a race war that will leave whites in totla control of the US. The Black Ops team is sent into various undercover postions to stop the madman and bring him down. Kasner creates a Fleming-esque villain who would give 007 a run for his money, throws in an impenetrable desert fortress and also gives us Melinda Bao, probably one of the toughest Special Ops warriors ever created-male or female.
