Rottweiler Mix .......2006-05-31
I recommend this book for all rottweiler (and or mix breed) dog owners. The history of the breed will give you a good understanding of the dogs nature. It is quite interesting. The training hints and tips are very helpful. I injoyed reading and following the tips in the margins of the pages. Training will only inhance the dogs loyalty and companionship.
Best book out of 6 I have read.......2005-02-17
This book is well written and contains more than enough information for beginners and most advanced dog owners. If you are considering getting a Rottweiler and want to know what to expect, get this book. If you already own a Rottweiler, this book has excellent tips and hints on the care and well-being of your dog. Thank you to Richard G. Beauchamp for an excellent book.
A fun read.......2003-10-19
I have a small number of dog books, and this is the most fun one to read! Sure, I totally reccomend it to anyone who owns or is interested in getting a rottie. They are great dogs with wonderful personalities if given the proper environment to grow up in. This book helps you to do that for them, so it is a plus for you and your dog. Easy and fun, that is the best way to learn.
A "Must Have" Rottie Reference!.......2003-06-17
I must say that I stumbled upon this book ... about a month and a half ago. A thorough examination of the book provided me with an absolutely great read. Unfortunately, It does not cover every aspect of raising the breed in great detail. However, if you are just beginning research on Rottweilers, reading this book will give you a VERY SOLID FOUNDATION to support your future reading. Your understanding of breed characteristics, history, specific training methods, and even terminology will increase by leaps and bounds. For prospective Rottie owners, this book is a "must have!"
Best wishes and happy reading,
Will Marple
A Wonderful Rottweiler Reference.......2002-06-15
I just got a seven week old Rottweiler puppy and I needed a reference to help me learn about the breed and to learn basic information to teach the dog certain rituals. I found this book and it is a true gem. This book will teach you about the breed, whether or not the dog is right for you, and a plethora of other useful information about the dog. Rottweilers are actually one of the most loving breeds of dog that there is and one part of the book will help people to realize that these dog are great dogs that are good with children and people if they are treated and taught well from the first day that you bring your dog home.
This superlative reference is broken up into is broken up into four parts with numerous chapters that fall under that specific topic. The main things that are discussed in this great book are getting to know Rottweilers, where you find out about the dog and whether or not the dog is right for you; the next part is called searching for a soulmate where you get information on knowing what you are looking for in the dog and how to choose what to get; part three of the book discusses how you can keep your Rottweiler in good health by learning about the dog's basic anatomy, feeding and exercise rituals, and health problems; the final part lists ten reasons to own or not to own a Rottweiler, and training and traveling tips. This is a handy reference because of the multitude of topics that are discussed in this book.
I detracted one star from the book because I felt that the training information in the book was not specific and that I didn't get a great deal of information regarding my dog's habits for doing bathroom rituals. I didn't get a lot of information as to how many times a day I should take my dog out and how often my dog should be fed. Because of this I recommend another book in the "Dummies" series on training dogs.
As with all "Dummies" books the information that is found here is concise and to the point, written in an easy-to-read manner. I recommend this great reference to anybody that is looking for information on the Rottweiler breed of dogs. These dogs are one of the most loving creatures to walk the planet but this book is very neccesary. If you do not read this book you may be letting your dog do things that may result in long term problems, behavioral or physical. I will be sure to use this book in the future to take care of my Rottweiler. This is a great reference that is worth buying.
Happy Reading!

my rottweiler.......2006-02-26
i was always vary about buying a rottweiler as i was advised by my friends against the same.i think the rottweiler is the most misunderstood species in dogs.anyway i ordered this book from Amazon.com , went through the entire book , and after knowing the facts went ahead and bought my beautiful 1 and half month old female rottweiler SKY ! I m very happy today and recommend the above book to all rottweiler lovers.

Easy to understand.......2001-10-19
The book is written in such a way, even if you didn't own a Rottie you can easily follow all the chapters and succed.
Whoever owns a Rottie or is planning on getting one should buy and read this book.It is very easy to understand.
Comprehensive and Thoughtful.......2001-10-02
This book handles with clarity the challenging job of training a rottweiler. These are dogs of great intelligence and strength - a wonderful combination when properly directed. Ms. McNinch puts what could seem like a daunting task into completely understandable training plans for your dog. I own 12 rottweilers and know that well trained they are a wonderful gift, untrained they can be powerful gremlins with the power to think. This book makes the training a do-able task - which should result in less throw-a-way rotties, lost because of lack of knowledge.

This book was a waste of time, it just talked about basic dog behavior, with simple language. No detail whatsoever on how to train or specific tricks to teach your dog. The book's title should be "Rottweiler Children Stories."

Great book!.......2006-05-23
This book provides great info about the breed from puppyhood to adulthood. The pictures and drawing are also a great visual to learning about these wonderful creatures. I would highly recommend this book to rottweiler owners.
rott book.......2005-09-22
This book is very informative for beginners with lots of pictures and covers all aspects such as rearing, training, feeding, health etc.Any one new to rottweilers must buy this book.
The Best..!!!.......2004-06-07
I bought a series of "upper price range" books on Rottweilers and this is by far the best of the bunch. This book covers every conceivable angle on Rotty's. It is a good sized book with lovely photography also. If you are looking for one book to cover all aspects of your Rottweilers life and history this is most definitely the best one. I bought one that was 4 times this price and was still no better!!...Enjoy....
Terrific..........2004-05-25
I bought a number of books on Rotty's in one shipment. This is the best of the best as far as I am concerned. Beautiful pictures and very informative. If you are going to get one this would have to be it. Highly recommended.
Excellent book for people looking for Rottweiler information.......2002-12-25
Of all of the books that I've read concerning the Rottweiler, and I've read over a dozen, this book is by far the best. The information concerns training, diet, health, history, breeding just to name a few. It really is the Ultimate for information. My friend lent me his so I could see if this was really the breed of dog for me. I liked it so much I had to buy my own copy for reference material. Good luck with your future companion.

Harm Done: A New Inspector Wexford Mystery
ASIN: 1400095883
Release Date: 2005-09-13 |
Book Description
The first victim had bite marks on her neck so the London papers nicknamed her killer, “the Rottweiler.” He has been stalking the small and diverse London community of Lisson Grove, where Inez Ferry runs an antique shop frequented by a motley collection of eccentric individuals. When the Rottweiler’s trinkets start showing up in the shop, suddenly, everyone Inez knows is a suspect, and the killer feels all too close. Enthralling and deeply unsettling,
The Rottweiler alternates expertly between the mind of a psychopath and the daily affairs of those living in his shadow. It is a transfixing mystery that only Ruth Rendell could write.
Customer Reviews:
Tame Mystery, Full of Quirky Characters.......2007-09-21
I am not a die-hard mystery reader, although I do like the occasional mystery, and this is my first Ruth Rendell novel. I can't say that it made me want to read more of her work.
The Rottweiler revolves around a small antique store in London. The characters who work in, visit, and hang around the shop are the key to a series of murders in the city. Mistakenly dubbed "the Rottweiler" because a bite mark appeared on his first victim, the murderer garrotes young women and removes trinkets from their bodies as souvenirs. From the intuitive widow who owns the antique store, Inez, to a good-looking laborer with the intelligence of a six-year-old, Will, all of the characters are quirky outsiders in their own way and all have a part to play in the mystery.
The premise of the story is rather standard, but the idea of the characters made it more interesting. Unfortunately, Rendell didn't carry it off. Despite the characters' quirkiness, none of them are sympathetic enough to draw the reader into the story. All of them instead seem more like stereotypes, especially Will, who seems like a shallower version of Tim, the very special, fascinating character created by Colleen McCullough. The narrative itself jumps around between the characters, which, instead of giving the reader a complete picture of the scene and action, makes the story feel a bit plodding. On the subject of the mystery itself, the serial killings, the reader finds out the identity of the killer about halfway through the book and there isn't enough suspense to take the place of that mystery. Instead, the reader is supposed to be drawn into why the killer kills, but I just found myself waiting for the end of the book. Also, mysteries are all about attention to detail and it really bothered me that the writer (and her editor) kept mixing up the trinkets the killer kept. In one scene, the trinkets include a lighter, some earrings, and a keyring. In another, later, scene, the keyring is replaced by a watch, which was planted in the antique shop by the killer earlier in the book (this isn't a spoiler - this information is on the jacket). Since these trinkets were key to the plot, this was an important oversight.
Overall, The Rottweiler was fine. It wasn't awful and it wasn't fantastic. I wanted to find out what happened, but was not surprised, delighted, or shocked when the end came - instead, it was exactly what I expected and I didn't really care what happened to the characters after the action's conclusion. I can't say that this book made me hungry for any more of Rendell's work, despite the predominately positive reviews.
Rottweiler has plenty of teeth.......2006-12-12
This is a late (for the book's age) review, but I wanted to add my admiration for Rendell's unfailing ability to construct wonderful stories that are even better character studies. Her principal characters are usually way off center, but not perceived as being as dangerous or as bizaare as they really are by the rest of the world. "The Rottweiler" is a very good example of mundane/normal/boring vs. crazy/malevolent. A good read and worthy of Rendell's well-earned reputation as a master writer of good literature, not to mention one of the best mystery writers alive.
Lacks the zip of her earlier work.......2006-09-27
At her best -- and I think you have to go back a decade or so to find her best non-Wexfords -- Rendell creates a wonderful sense of tension by portraying characters who have some flaw or tendency that inexorably draws them into the darkness. That kind of tension is really lacking in this book.
We have the setting Rendell/Vine uses so often: a London house full of disparate residents and their friends. But none of them really engages us; in fact, some of them are mere caricatures. Even the killer seems far too rational and self-examining to have committed the crimes we are told he or she is guilty of. We spend a lot of time with characters who have almost nothing to do with the main story. The police drift in and out of the picture as if they are investigating a serial killer in their spare time.
My advice if you need a Rendell fix: go back and read Live Flesh or A Demon in My View. They're far more gripping and believable.
One minor gripe: why do American publishers feel they need to rewrite books for their audience? No one in Britain refers to football as "soccer", and seeing this word in a British context is really jarring. One wonders how much other local color has been eliminated or rewritten for fear that poor ignorant American readers will be confused.
Not her best but still very very good.......2006-07-13
This is typical Rendell and as always she'll keep you turning the pages. Not really a mystery since we know very early in the book who the rottweiler is. Yet her unusual but believable characters will keep you reading. Interesting take on care for the high functioning developmentally disabled also.
Distinctly Average.......2006-05-24
The weakest RR novel that I have read.
The plot-lines and characterization were weak.
It seemed to be a hurried effort-had some good ideas but these were not developed enough and only showed the usual RR quality in flashes.
Let's just hope that this novel was just a temporary blip and not the shape of things to come.

Very useful!!!.......2006-03-19
I will keep this short. Having never been a rott owner this book has taught me alot. Very educational about rottweiler's. The book is detailed in most areas from breeding to late adulthood.
Must buy for first time rott purchase.
not all that informative.......2006-03-18
I didn't learn anything more from this book than what I learned from my dog trainer. Don't buy this is if you are looking for something more advanced.
A MUST!.......2003-04-09
I BOUGHT THIS BOOK BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER HAD A DOG BEFORE AND RECENTLY PURCHASED A ROTTIE. THIS BOOK IS SO HELPFUL. THERE ARE ALOT OF THINGS I DID NOT KNOW BUT THIS BOOK EXPLAINS ALOT ABOUT THE BREED. THE ONE THING I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK IS IT ALL ABOUT ONE BREED AND NOT ABOUT THE DOG FAMILY.
Rottweilers and a Respect for the Breed!.......2002-02-13
I never realized prior to now the sheer importance of proper care and training of a Rottweiler until reading this book. This book should be required reading for anyone considering raising a Rottweiler or who currently owns one. I actually felt myself doubting whether I can provide the necessary attention and fortitude that this breed requires. I have always loved this breed and the book precisely specifies why it should be loved and why the task of raising one should not be taken lightly. Every consideration for the Rottweiler is mentioned in this book, from purchasing to care and nutrition, to behavior and training. I thoroughly recommend this book for anyone considering purchasing a Rottweiler or if you currently own one.
Great foundation!!.......2001-07-17
I was given a full-blooded bitch and did not really know alot about Rottweillers except for the preconceived notions of their viciousness. With smaller kids at home I was a little worried. But after reading this book and discovcering what a wonderful breed these dogs are, I am no longer worried and our puppy is doing awesome and I am learning alot every day. The book has great information about the Rottweiller breed and what to expect as well as great advice and techniques for training. Nicely written.

"With training, socialization and responsible owners, the Rottweiler is a wonder dog--it's up to you to make the difference." With these words, Linda Michels and Catherine Thompson dispel the myth that rottweilers are mean and dangerous dogs. Quite to the contrary--they love rottweilers for their strength, loyalty, looks, and personality, and their admiration for the breed is lovingly conveyed throughout their book, The Rottweiler: Centuries of Service. This handsome volume provides a wealth of information about the breed, with sections on rottweiler history, defining characteristics, finding the right rottie for you, living with and caring for a rottweiler, entering shows, and breeding your dog. There's also a chapter called "Headliners" that functions as a sort of rottweiler hall of fame--and where the authors' extreme enthusiasm perhaps gets a little carried away: "The first time Cathy saw CH Erno Von Wellesweiler, SchH I, she knew that she had seen a real Rottweiler." In addition, there's information on the American Rottweiler Club and other organizations and resources for the enthusiasts of the breed. Filled with color photographs and expert advice, this is a great book for serious rottweiler lovers. --Andy Boynton

The Rottweiler: Centuries of Service.......2007-07-20
For many years I have raised & trained in obedience, Rottweilers. I have quite a few Rottie books I have accumulated through the years but recently, when I was waiting for a new puppy, I read "The Rottweiler: Centuries of Service," & found it to be the best one ever. It went past the confirmation of these wonderful working dogs & into the working, health & temperament more thoroughly than I have ever read.
wonderful book.......2002-08-29
this is the third book i have read on rottweilers. i have enjoyed every page of it. it is very easy to read and understand. the pictures are fabulous. the topics cover almost everything you would want to know about the rottweiler. the authors have many years of experience with rottweilers and give their advice, hints, and instructions on things such as showing and building a whelping box. i love this book and would recommend it to anyone interested in this breed from curiousity to expert.
Dedication To The Breed.......2002-07-03
We have 2 dogs... a Boxer and a Rottweiler. After I bought "The Boxer - Family Favorite" by the same publisher (Wiley & Sons), I decided I must have this one regarding my other favorite breed... the Rottweiler. A good looking hard cover book with 250+ pages of excellent info. Pictures adorn most pages. Topics include: History, breeding, basic care, health & symptoms, activities for you & your dog, training tips, size & incredible strength, enjoyment, and so much more. It is clearly evident that authors Thompson and Michels are dedicated to the breed. Anyone owning or considering the Rottweiler as a pet should have this book. I have half a dozen books on the breed and I find myself reaching for this one the most. Any dog-lover will admire all the pictures of these big beautiful animals and understandable print. A wonderful read.
Excellent Reading.......2001-06-15
One of the best books on the breed that I have ever read, written by two experts!
Outstanding! A Best-In-Show Book..........1999-07-05
That the authors have years of experience in the rottweiler breed is evident both in this amazing book, and in the pedigrees of the many dogs enjoying enormous success in the AKC rottweiler ring today. This book is perfect for the new, or prospective, rottweiler owner. It gives good advice, not based on fad, but based on experience. The photographs are beautiful, and yes I do have three photos published in this book, but it only takes a quick browse through the pages to fall in love again, and again with this noble breed. You can't keep a good pup down--at least not down off the counter, or away from the storage closet, or out of trouble in general. Alexandra Day takes off on another scamper with her cute rottweiler pup in Puppy Trouble, a pop-up tear through an about-to-be-very-disheveled home.
Just as in past outings (like Good Dog, Carl and Carl Goes Shopping), this rascally dog means well--he's just, well, a puppy. Kids will especially enjoy this Carl adventure for its copious push-and-pull-tab action, on six different spreads, from the living room to the bathroom to the kitchen. Many of the scenes are conventional pop-up tableaus: Carl popping out of his pet carrier, tugging on a tablecloth, and jumping off a counter. But a few show some genuine ingenuity, like a spiraling roll of toilet paper (as if he needs help from the cat), a rear-end-activated TV remote, and a convincing imitation of a Felix clock.
Day's sweet renderings and muted, traditional setting maintain Carl's mysterious but undeniable appeal, and the short lines of text ("Let go of kitty's pillow!"; "Better not pull that!") provide wee ones with an excellent chance for building vocabulary. (Baby to preschool) --Paul Hughes
Book Description
Pop-up fun from the creator of the Carl books
A Rottweiler puppy's ingenuity enables him to escape from his dog cage and get himself into loads of domestic mischief - with a little help from readers as they pull tabs and lift flaps. Whether he's trying to steal the cat's pillow or trailing toilet paper all over the house, dog lovers of all ages will applaud and laugh at his misbehavior until, at last, the puppy falls into the arms of his beloved owner.

Puppy Troubles.......2007-01-09
It's a cute book, but the pull tabs and 3-d effects were easily destroyed by my 3-year old twins. I prefer the other easy-to-maintain Carl books.

Book Description
The ranch is in the grip of a heat wave, and to make matters worse, there's a raging rottweiler on the loose. It's up to Hank the Cowdog, Head of Ranch Security, to teach the visiting pooch some manners. It's rumored that Bruiser is all talk and no action, but when he attacks a defenseless fawn, Hank's not sure what to think. Has Hank got what it takes to take care of this crazy canine? Or are his dog days numbered?
Customer Reviews:
Hank is awesome.......2003-11-17
I highly reccomend the Hank the Cowdog books if you're a dog lover, or if you just enjoy good, clean humor and fun! The books
are written in Hank's perspective, which, I think, makes them funnier than if they weren't written in his persppective. He tries to talk "intelligent," but really he is actually quite, um,
well, to be to-the-point... DUMB. And Hank's conversations with Drover are priceless. If you don't have this book, you really should get it. This is one of my personal favorites.
My other faves are:
The Curse of the Incredible Priceless Corn Cob
The Case of the Missing Bird Dog
It's a Dog's Life
Every Dog Has His Day
The Case of the Fiddle Playing Fox
The Phantom in the Mirror
The Case of the Burrowing Robot
The Case of the Deadly Ha-Ha Game
...And too many more to list!...
The best book I read is Hank the cowdog!.......2002-11-14
One of my favorite books I have read in the past year was Hank the Cowdog by John R.Erickson. It is A marvelous book about Hank tries to fall in love with another dog he met. One of the major reasons I in joyed this book is because Hank and Drover stays ahead of the ranch security so nothing wouldn't happen to the farm or the chickens, but they decide that its time for A break from the ranch security. Another reason I found in the book to be so wonderful Hank and Drover goes out into the woods and they see four yellow eyes in the dark it was Rip and Snort. They were brothers but Rip and Snort didn't remember Hank and Drover, but Hank told them about the pit where they had parties and got drunk. Then Snort and Rip mumbled about it. Then they thought they would go we eat Hunk later and Drover for snacks then Hank said member what I told you about that don't eat friends that is bad manners. Then snort said, "Oh," but Drover ran off. when Rip seen the silage pit he ran but not snort; he stayed behind Hank. Then Hank said, "That was my chance to escape." To conclude Hank the Cowdog by John R.Erickson was truly my favorite book
Hank the Cowdog 36.......2001-05-01
