A growing number of people are becoming disenchanted by the modern medical system. Medical procedures and drug prices are high. Technology and research often lags behind the need to treat growing levels of illness. Drug resistant strains of infection, bacteria, and virus retard the process that much more.

Some scientists and interested individuals are looking to alternative therapies. One such potential is Blood Irradiation (BI) Therapy. At the simplest level of explanation, this treatment makes use of specific wave lengths of light to kill infection, bacteria, and viruses. Pioneered in the USA in the 1920's, BI has been integrated into contemporary medicine in Russia and in East Germany. The costs are minimal, the process fairly simple to use, and studies of the wide ranging potential of BI (including but not limited to AIDS/HIV, liver disease, bronchial asthma, and hypertension).

Healing Photons explores Blood Irradiation Therapy in some depth discussing the history, the way BI works, the various ways that the therapy has been used, the effectiveness of these treatments, and ideas about the further potential uses. I completely agree with the author, these techniques need to be studied and thoroughly tested (including long range trials) to see what potential they hold in the fight against infection and disease.

This text is BRILLIANT! Ken Dillon, PhD is the author of the definitive book about Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation therapy. I have read other texts on this subject over the years and am happy to say that Dr. Dillon's book is rated #1 in my opinion. I have used this therapy on thousands of clients and have witnessed incredible results in respect to their healing. One does not need medications, surgery, or chemotherapy. This book explains the biophysics behind how to stimulate the body's own healing power by using UBI! This book is a quick read for both layperson and clinician. There is no fluff, no hype, just facts and the medical study references from the past to back the text up. Anyone in alternative medicine MUST read this book and have it in their personal or office medical library. This text, provided the service is offered will revolutionize alternative medicine. Valuable Information YOU NEED TO KNOW!.......2007-09-23

I have always known the sun was my friend. I never cowered to the medical fanatics who warn against allowing sunshine to touch my skin. Now I finally found a book that reveals the studies to prove that not only is the sun NOT the evil monster in the sky, but indeed it's warming rays are extremely important to the health and well-being of humans on earth. Read how it appears that sunshine can convert a substance called squalene (which would otherwise turn to cholesterol) to much needed vitamin D when skin is exposed to sunlight and thus lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, strengthen bones and even help in lowering incidents of various diseases (cancer, heart disease and more). This book also tells us why we should be very skeptical of sunscreens. This little book is packed with critical information and the studies to back it up. I even bought a second book to give to my parents who live in Florida but never allow the sunlight to touch their bodies. Both of them suffer from high blood pressure and too much cholesterol, and mom has already broken a hip.

Well written explanation of benefits of sunlight - as opposed to the ridiculous paranoia emanating from the "slip, slop, slap" brigade. My only reservation was that there wasn't enough discussion on the "practicalities" - eg. how long? at what time of day? etc

Many ancient cultures worshipped the sun, which is understandable given the healing power it contains. While I don't worship the sun, but rather it's Creator, I am truly grateful for the healing power it contains. For years sunlight has been put down as unhealthy by the mainline medical establishment. In his well researched, most imterestingly written book, "The Healing Sun," Richard Hobday not only gives you the history of sunlight theraphy, but also the facts concerning the health benfefits of sunlight.

This book is good at presenting very useful and detailed information on a wide variety of topics that are inherent to optics in the vacuum ultraviolet and not just in the spectroscopy aspect. Most sections include enough details in the form of graphs, equations, and diagrams to gain a good level of understanding as to the background and operation of a particular concept. A good list of references is included in each section for those who want to further explore a topic of interest.

I lent this book from the library in our institute, and this book is very suitable to us, who do research with Synchrotron Radiation in the region of soft X-ray. Many directions of research for soft X-ray are included in this book.

A very good textbook.......2000-05-05

I took the class taught by the author at UC-Berkeley while he was finishing up this text (I also proofread a couple of the chapters as part of the class - you can find my name and the names of my classmates in the acknowledgements).

The text is very clearly written. An undergraduate physics / engineering level of understanding of electromagnetics and quantum mechanics is sufficient background for most the textbook. Most of the calculations are done semi-classically which helps for people not well versed in quantum mechanics. It also serves nicely as a reference text.

Topics covered include:
- Grazing incidence optics
- Normal incidence multi-layer mirrors
- Synchrotron radiation
- Cyclotrons, wigglers and undulators
- Plasma physics with applications to EUV and X-ray sources

When I was a patient of Dr. Kime's, like his other patients, we were all encouraged to read his book. Most of us had been to other physicians who couldn't help us. Gradual exposure to sunlight coupled with a diet that gradually introduced raw foods was a part of our treatment. I certainly flourished under Dr. Kime's regimen. The book disappointed me at first, a little, because I thought I was getting something more of physics, more mathematical, like a high school study book. But as it turned out, it is quite fascinating and pretty! The images taken there are so beautiful, it will not disappoint anyone even if they're into plane physics and not images. DR. Campbell's book "into the Light" is a must read if you believe in alternative medicine. It is sad that we can't get the FDA to approve of this life-saving treatment. On a scale of 1-5 stars it is 10 stars. This treatment saved my mother's life when conventional medicine put her in the hospital 4 times within one month. When you can't get a doctor to heal you, then try getting a UVBI treatment as stated by Dr. Campbell.

If you want a historical perspective on the H2O2 studies conducted during the past century, this is the book. I should have saved my money. I recommend "Flood Your Body With Oxygen: Therapy For Our Poluted World" by Ed McCabe. McCabe explains it so that the information is understandable and usefull.

This is yet another example of the chicanery and pseudoscientific nonsense that people use to fleece the desperate and ill of their hard earned money. It sickens me that people like this offer false hope in order to turn a buck. Gee, this hasn't been done by mainstream medicine in over 50 years the author points out. Go figure, that's because it doesn't work. Last time I checked, sitting in a tanning booth was more likely to cause cancer than cure it, and in a very pseudoscientific way, that's what the author's telling you to do. As usual, this "enlightened healer" is only trying to help people by pointing out things that those evil doctors don't want you to know, because by golly, light therapy isn't profitable for them. So... plunk your money here! because writing this drivel has been VERY profitable for Mr. Douglas.

Also, for the record, you can get anybody to testify that "XYZ worked for me, it cured my herpes!" or whatever you want them to spout, and you can prove anything with an underpowered "randomized controlled clinical trial". You run the same trial 20 times with 10 patients, you'll eventually get the results you want to see. Then you find a "journal" of bogus medicine to publish it, and voila. You can reference anything. Unfortunately, most people reading these books have an incomplete (at best) understanding of the science and statistics involved in these "trials" (and to be fair, the drug company trials as well, but that's a rant for another day). This is commercialism, pure and simple, and if it makes you feel better, then by all means go play with lightbulbs, but if you think it's going to cure you of anything, then you're going to be profoundly disappointed.

Eye Opening.......2003-06-04

I was amazed at the level of detail. It's heavily documented, which is refreshing in an alternative medicine book. In fact, if what Dr. Douglass says is true (and I'm pretty confident it is), then the mainstream medical establishment has a lot of explaining to do about why they have rejected and ignored light-based therapies that have produced excellent, well-documented clinical or double-blind results over the course of a century.

He also does an excellent job in not overselling his claims. He pulls no punches about when and where the therapy failed to work. When it does work, he also doesn't hold back in his enthusiasm. Some might be put off by this last fact, but I think his presentation is well-balanced, overall.

My only criticism is that, while most documentation is excellent, I wish the author had paid a bit more attention to completing all of his references. I have a second edition copy, which includes a reference on page 232 to something called, _AIDS - The End of Civilization_, Chapter 6. Unfortunately, there are no other descriptions of that book that I could find, such as who wrote or published it. I learned later that it was another book by the same author, but that fact should have been included in the reference.)

Another example of an inaccurate reference is on page 236, where he mentions a blue light therapy performed on a little girl in Chapter 14. Unfortunately, Chapter 14 is about a doctor with AIDS and how he has dealt with this personal crisis. It has no reference to either blue light therapy or the little girl.

Such mistakes aside, the overall value of the book is tremendous. I recommend it heartily to anyone whose mind isn't closed like a steel trap.

I also recommend another book by the author called Hydrogen Peroxide, Medical Miracle. The two books should really be considered companions of each other.

Factual history and indications of this excellent therapy.......1999-09-06

Dr. Douglass is a leading American expert on Photoluminescence (aka Blood Irradiation, Biophotonic Therapy, etc.). In this book he provides a great deal of very useful original source material from the early American clinical trials of this formidable therapy. He has travelled to Russia to consult with physicians there and includes some material from recent Russian sources as well. The book is written in an engaging style, with many insights into topics related to this therapeutic use of the chemiluminescent property of human blood cells. The abundant evidence from this book makes it clear that mainstream medicine has allowed an excellent therapy to slip through the cracks. Ok.......2006-03-31

I read the book instead of going to see the movie because from what I read on Amazon, the book had more information and backstory, which makes things easier to follow in my mind. So I got the book and read it in a couple days, but I was really disappointed. I was expecting something a bit more in depth, given the trailers for the movie--super soldiers, fighting back, etc..

Instead it's just a basic shoot-em up kind of movie/book. I was expecting something more...more drama, more tension, and more....character. About the only character they really develop is Violet, which is fine, except that in order to see her character develop more, I expected to see more character development of the other people as well. I wanted to see more with the overall fight with the government, and I really wanted to see more about this super-soldier creation stuff...

I don't fault Yvonne for the lack of more story, afterall there is only so far you are allowed to diverge before it's an entirely different story. I thought her treatment of the story was good. Its the first of her books I've read and I enjoyed the descriptions and backstory that she did have in there. I just was expecting much more from the whole thing in the first place.

"UltraViolet" True Blue Adventure.......2006-03-18

"UltraViolet" is the latest contribution to an increasingly long list of movies and subsequent movie tie-ins featuring vampires as the central characters. Of late, the "Blade" trilogy and "Underworld" films have also made thier way to the silver screen and books as well.

Though an abundant use of similies grace the pages of this tie-in there is an eveness of style that makes reading flow easlily along. It is, primarily, an action oriented tale alternating between chase and pursuit and fight and slash sequences. As an experienced author, Yvonne Navarro imparts a masterful symmerty in this film adaption put to words. Well worth the read and an excellent addition to a literary collection

Recommended Reads: "Species", "Species II", "Hellboy" and "Aliens" Music of the Spheres" by Yvonne Navarro; "Blade" by Mel Odom; "Blade III: Trinity" by Natasha Rhodes; "Underworld", "Underworld: Blood Enemy" and "Underworld: Evolution" by Greg Cox.

This was a surprisingly enjoyable read! I only picked this up because I thoroughly enjoyed Yvonne Navarro's AFTERAGE many years ago and was curious as to what she was doing now. Vampirisim is a disease in which the infected person becomes sensitive to light, has slightly longer canine teeth, and gains some healing powers due to an increased metabolism. Unfortunately, Hemophages, as those infected with the disease are called, also suffer from a shortened lifespan due to the disease. One particularly virulent form of the virus, HPV, led to Hemophages being first separated from others by armbands to actual placement in concentration camps. Rebellion ensued and now the world has humans and Hemophages separated and at war with one another. Violet lost everything when she was infected and is now an assassin for Nerva, the leader of one faction of the Hemophages. She is able to sneak into the Laboratories for Latter Day Defense (L.L.D.D.) and, using technology that masks her disease, steal a suitcase that allegedly holds the human's greatest weapon against the Hemophages. Violet opens the suitcase against Nerva's orders and discovers a child named Six. She tricks Nerva, and then Violet and Six are on the run from other Hemophages and humans. She ultimately has a showdown between the mastermind behind L.L.D.D., Richard Daxus, but I won't spoil the book by revealing more. I don't know how the book compares to the movie but Yvonne Navarro has reminded me of why I enjoyed her book so much in the past.

Anywya, this book is good, it developes more of story, because they had to edit a lot from the movie to make it PG-13. it was originally rated R, but they wanted to please the audiences. i pray they make an unrated version when it comes out, which should be soon considering that it is tanking in theaters. It's not the best movie in the world, but it tried and also I have seen a lot worse. try the book.

I have reviewed this book twice. I review books for a National Foundation. It offers more information for the treatment of Lupus (withholding drug treatment) than any other book I have reviewed. The information provided in this book allows a person with lupus to "look outside the box" of conventional drug treatment for lupus. Understand that in doing this the person may meet with some resistance from physicians. Who rightfully are doing what they know, what they have been taught. This treatment has not received the attention it deserves. Nor has the physician who heads this research, Dr. Hugh McGrath. The author is amazingly informed of the technology involved. He tells of his own battle and appears driven to regain his health. In searching what may help him, he finds this amazing treatment for the immune system, an approved NIH study, not a fly-by-night theory. I am grateful that the author, Anthony DeBartolo, was inspired to share with us this fascinating technology. Since the treatment doesn't involve drugs, the pharmaceutical companies are not interested. So people, rise up and claim your health, read this book. It may save your life.

Treatment Above-Board.......2004-11-28

I've had lupus for 10 years and have read everything I could get my hands on. This is positively the most helpful book I've read. What is so surprising is that the UVA1 light treatment has also been around for 10 years. Like I just read in another review, I guess I'm lucky that a investigative journalist got sick. This is one lupus book I'm sure the money-grubbing drug company cartel didn't want written. Thank you!

Well-written, well-researched, well-reasoned and at times, more than a little funny. I think this book is a must for all lupus sufferers frustrated with currently approved FDA treatments. We're lucky that Mr. DeBartolo, a great investigative journalist, got sick. The 3 years of research he did to find a treatment that worked for him - UVA1 photo therapy - benefits us all. What I do not fully understand is why the work of Dr. McGrath at LSU has been so "long-ignored." Is it really because the big drug companies can't make a dime off his work? Makes me want to move to Canada! Especially useful (and informative) is the book's extensive reference of UVA1 lupus therapy research. Thank you, Mr. DeBartolo. You've given me some hope!
