Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Book Description
This newly revised edition of Written in Blood, expanded by Michael Heinl, includes new research and an updated version of the 1996 edition's orthography of Creole. Written in Blood remains the most complete history of Haiti ever written in English and one of the most complete in any language.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Background to Understanding Haiti.......2007-09-15
"Written in Blood" by Col & Mrs Heinl is a "must have" for anyone interested in Haiti. The Heinl's trace the long and bloody history of the island and it's peoples and link these events together with their clear writing style. In this updated version, their son seamlessly carries on with the tale.
When Haiti once again "resurfaces" as the crisis of the day (as it will), leaders and policy makers would do well to read this book.
Book Description
An army brat-turned-marine, he saw combat in Vietnam, and returned a decorated soldier. An avid reader, his dreams of being an acclaimed novelist came true. His desire to find love was fulfilled when he married brilliant executive Kathleen Atwater, the first female student accepted at Duke University's School of Engineering. The Petersons seemed the ideal academic couple- well-respected, prosperous, and happy. All that came crashing down in December of 2001, when Kathleen apparently fell to her death in their secluded home in an exclusive area of Durham, North Carolina. But blood spattered evidence and a missing fireplace poker suggested calculated, cold-blooded murder. Her trusted husband stood accused. Prosecutors introduced evidence at trial that sixteen years earlier, Peterson was one of the last people to see his neighbor alive before she was found dead at the bottom of a staircase in her home in Germany. A dramatic trial followed in the explosive final chapter of a life that no novelist could ever have conceived....
Customer Reviews:
Very Disappointing Book.......2007-07-31
I had seen on Court TV about this murder and was looking forward to the book. It is far too vague. I wanted to know more of Kathleen as a person, not just offhand remarks by her stepson alluding to her drinking making it sound like that was a big part of her life and yet I knew it was not. However I wanted that explained more fully in the book. It was interesting to read about an obviously brilliant woman who despite her brilliance made a very bad choice in marrying this man and finding out more and more about him, not getting out before she literally could not.
It happens to so many, many women but I felt so very sad for Kathleen and for the lovely daughter she has left. The book left out so many things
that would have helped us understand Kathleen better.
The best we have, so far.......2007-04-10
If, like me, you saw The Stair Case on Sundance (or even before, on ABC) and found yourself wanting to know more, your options are Fanning's book or a slighter effort by Aphrodite Jones. Both books suffer from not being informed by the defense's point of view. (Did the Peterson camp have an exclusivity agreement with Maha?) And both books were written relatively quickly - not quite insta-books but almost. Still, I found Written in Blood worth reading and applaud Fanning for uncovering telling details about Peterson's time in Germany and his spending spree after Kathleen's death.
B.Chen's point about Fanning's sometimes groan-worthy prose is valid. Fanning does try too hard on occasion to wring meaning out of the mundane. I also wish more space was given to the facts of the crime - the broken bone, etc.
This is an acceptable addition to the True Crime genre but not among the greats. I hope that a definitive telling of this story will be written soon and will greater access to all parties.
Witness for the prosecution.......2007-02-13
I come to this book after having watched the riveting documentary "The Staircase" (available for rent at netflix) fascinated by Michael Peterson but looking for the other side of the story. For as fascinating as the documantary is, it is told from the defense perspective. This book sets out the facts, many glossed over or omitted from the documenary, along with a critical but not unfair view of the accused. If you have seen the film and are looking for more information on the case, this is the book to read; it is much more factual and informative than Aphrodite Jones's much more emotional and biased account. After reading this book, I lost my conviction that Peterson was wrongly convicted, but saddened that a man of so much talent and intelligence could be capable of such violence.
page-turner.......2006-08-26
This is my second Fanning book and I couldn't put it down. I didn't read any other books (or see the film) on the case but I did watch some Court TV coverage. How many staircases does it take to see the pattern of a cold-blooded killer? Typos aside, I thought it was very well written and it held my interest.
Masterful Edgar Award nominee.......2006-07-08
This masterful true crime book was nominated for an Edgar Award--an astonishing accomplishment for a paperback original in the Best Fact Crime category.
Written in Blood has the most accurate and diverse presentation of facts than any other book or televised documentary about this fascinating case. It is thorough and riveting. It is written so well that
I could not put it down.
Customer Reviews:
Another classic from the best living writer of English mysteries.......2007-01-03
Caroline Graham has never let me down. I'd put this book right up alongside "The Killings at Badgers Drift" as the best of a brilliant series. A reviewer thinks the loathsome Brian got too much print, but I loved every word of it. I've known men like him and I just knew he was going to get his in the end, and what a beautiful ending it is. It's hard to recommend one Graham mystery over another but don't miss this one.
A Good Puzzle, but faintly depressing........2002-12-24
I am a big fan of Caroline Graham, and I love her characters - Barnaby and Troy. This book has a pretty good puzzle. Some of the characters were quite well drawn, but I found the book faintly depressing. I wonder if the whole side bar with Brian was really necessary to the story? I found that part of the book quite distasteful actually. There comes a time when storylines like that one can be thought of as sensationalizing since they do not really add to the story. But other than that I enjoyed this book. The dust jacket says that Caroline Graham shows humour and pathos in her stories, and I think that is really true. Barnaby is a really appealing main character, and I want to continue to read in order to get to know him better.
Written In Blood.......2001-04-19
I have loved Caroline Graham's books for some time now and I think this is her best. The characters are expertly drawn; Graham has a way of making you feel as if you are in amongst them and yet watching from a safe distance. The roller coaster ending was a complete surprise to me and I highly recommend this book to mystery readers.
Underrated is an Understatement.......2001-04-09
Caroline Graham may be the most underrated of the British mystery writers. In "Written in Blood" as well as "Death in Disguise," she has produced good puzzles and some of the best internal monologues of some of the most interesting and diagnosable characters ever to grace the pages of a whodunit. As a writer, she is comparable to Iris Murdoch in her ability to see the primordial ooze underlying all drawing room comedies. Her characters teeter on the edge of civilization and threaten to topple over through pure narcissism. What a delight: there we all are, the good, the bad, and the irrascible. That includes the good guys and the bad guys, though the bad guys are a bit worse than the others. I recommend her books to anyone who likes the British mystery genre and to anyone who enjoys a well-written comedy of manners...
Excellent read or watched.......1998-10-31
I read this book a year or so ago and was taken with it then. I often find myself thinking about the real characters and wondering how things could have been different for them all. While this review is not meant to re-tell the story, it is to alert readers to a unique type of author, one who uses imagery and quaintness to pull one in rather than hard core blood and guts. A&E recently showed a two part television version of this called "Midsomer Murder" and it too was very well made.

Book Description
This book is a complete history of Haiti from 1492 to the end of 1995. The first edition was and remains the most complete history of Haiti ever written in English and one of the most complete in any language. This second edition, revised and expanded by Michael Heinl, contains two more chapters as well as updated information to make it a must read for anyone interested in the history of Haiti and its people.

Ajax1158.......2004-10-03
I first read this book over 20 years ago when I was a student at the University of Wisconsin. I found it excellently written and full of details and intersting facts concerning the Hatian people. Thinking back, a lot of the material is now dated[until'71] obviously a lot has happened since the books pubblication [i.e Baby Doc's and General Cedris's departure and the US Invasion and Aristede's return to and fall from power, for example] I really enjoyed reading this engrossing and tragic history of Haiti. I would recommend this work to anyone looking for a good abiet outdated chronology of this destitute but proud country. All in all a good read.
Awesome book of tragic Haitian history.......2002-08-24
This book is awesome. It is a wonderful piece of work. My perspective is as someone who spent 9 months working in Haiti, however, I am not sure how appreciated it would be by someone who is less familiar with the country. It terrificly explains the tragic history of Haiti and ties in somewhat current events. I enjoyed reading it with the familiarity of knowing the places the author descibes. The only negative to this book may be that recent history isn't included due to it's publication date. As those familiar with Haiti well know, the political situation can quickly change in such a fragile country.
Written In Blood.......2002-04-26
This is an excellent book. I have yet to read a more unbiassed detailed book on the history of Haiti, wheter in the French or English language.
The book details with precision the lives of the many players that have affected Haiti's political landscape in one way or another.
I recommend this book to all Haitians, or to anyone who's interested in knowing the reasons behind the current horrific political and social situation of Haiti.
You'll be suprised to learn who the true heroes of Haiti are.
Ranks with Churchill, Gibbon and Maculay as Timeless Classic.......2001-02-28
Very fair, with great detailed understanding of the convolutions of Haiti's tragic history. Glossary provides definitions of French and Creole terms. Photos and maps, along with a very helpful chronology .
I've read Churchill, Gibbon and Maculay's histories and say this book belongs in their company. The compassion for the suffering peoples and the trenchant and bitting comments about the selfish and deluded men and women who usually gain power, is very easy to read and hard to put down.
Living in Miami, having Haitian friends, I now understand why thse people are immagrants, and most of the Cubans who live here are "exiles"; eternal foreigners dreaming about a land with no Fidel. I also reccommend "Continental Drift", a novel about Haiti and the US, as well. Also a very good read. "Written In Blood" is a giant and great book that will leave you with one sure thing: congratulating yourself for reading it and your feeling anger at the poor leaders of Haiti, and compassion for the ordinary people who flee and those who remain.
Shoddy editing and production........2000-08-02
This updated edition of Written in Blood is a thorough treatment of Haitian history. The topic is exhaustively and one hopes accurately covered. I hope that it is accurately covered because the editing and production process evident in the copy that I bought is abominable. The book is rife with every conceivable editorial and production error known to Man. And the index is an abomination! If the quality of the research and writing that went into it is equivalent to the quality of its editing and production, this book is problematic. Because of my experience on Hispaniola, however, I suspect that such is not the case. I would recommend Written in Blood to anyone (particularly those limited to English) interested in Haiti. But I would admonish prospective readers to bear this caveat in mind,
Book Description
In 44 B.C. a Roman doctor named Antistius performed the first autopsy recorded in history—on the corpse of murder victim Julius Caesar. However, not until the nineteenth century did the systematic application of scientific knowledge to crime detection seriously begin, so that the tiniest scrap of evidence might yield astonishing results—like the single horsehair that betrayed the sex murderer in New York’s 1936 Nancy Titterton case. In this massive and compelling history of forensic detection, the internationally recognized criminologist Colin Wilson charts the progress of criminalistics from the first attempts at detecting arsenic to the development of an impressive array of such modern techniques as ballistic analysis, blood typing, voice printing, textile analysis, psychological profiling, and genetic fingerprinting. Wilson also explores the alarmingly modern phenomenon of serial sex crime with a discussion of notorious cases that includes Jack the Ripper, Lucie Berlin, Mary Phagan, the Black Dahlia, Charles Manson, and Peter Sutcliffe, the so-called Yorkshire Ripper. Wilson shows how the continual sophistication of forensic detection and the introduction of computerized information retrieval has increasingly stacked the odds against the sex killer. Whatever the case, Written in Blood never fails to enlighten and intrigue.

Student.......2004-11-09
This book is chalk-full of tons of information!! It tells about almost every recorded crime, including famous ones such as The Black Dahlia, Charles Manson, and Jack the Ripper; including an interesting turn on who Jack the Ripper really was. There are also a couple pages of pictures from crime scenes such as Madeline Smith, Leonard Lake, John George Haigh, and the trial of Ted Bundy. If you're looking for an interesting read and you love forensics and crime, then this is the book for you!
Book Description
"Ripper Notes: Written in Blood" is a collection of essays about the famous unidentified serial killer Jack the Ripper and related topics. Julie Stangeland starts things off with a look at a rarely-seen photograph of the Whitechapel division of London's Metropolitan Police in which, the author argues, Inspector Frederick Abberline can be identified here for the first time. David A. Green then names John Barlas, a Victorian decadent poet and anarchist who was locked up in asylums for the rest of his life shortly after the Whitechapel murders, as the previously unknown lunatic Ripper suspect described in a contemporary newspaper account. Vance McLaughlin follows with a look at three early serial killers in the United States who wrote messages to police and their victims' families. John Bennett reports on his first-hand examination of a 'Dear Boss' letter signed Jack the Ripper and dated September 17, 1888, but that may be a modern hoax slipped into the National Archives to mislead researchers. Tom Wescott has two essays: the first compares the wounds on Polly Nichols, the first canonical Ripper victim, to other area murders, and the second examines the various individuals named "McCarthy" living on Dorset Street in London's East End to try to determine which was the landlord of victim Mary Jane Kelly. Don Souden then argues that John McCarthy was not just a grocer but also Kelly's pimp, and Stephen P. Ryder contributes some Victorian letters to the editor discussing the problems of pimps of prostitution. Dan Norder presents four period paintings to see if a conclusion can be made about which, if any, was featured in "The Fisherman's Widow" print found in Kelly's room at the time of her death. Wolf Vanderlinden reports from the 2006 Jack the Ripper conference in Baltimore, Maryland; Kelly Robinson reviews a production of Chris George and Erik Sitbon's "Jack - The Musical" in Charlotte, North Carolina; and various writers critique a number of recent Ripper books and DVD. Profusely illustrated with photos and engravings from the Victorian era, Ripper Notes is a nonfiction anthology series covering all aspects of the Jack the Ripper case.

Issue #26, steady as she goes.......2006-11-01
The next installment of Ripper Notes is 'Written in Blood', Issue #26. In comparison to other issues, it's par for the course but not fantastic. Here's the basic rundown:
1. Pictures of Division H which may contain a possible photo of Det. Abberline but no proof it's actually him.
2. Article on suspect John Barlas the poet
3. Article on how handwritten letters helped to capture the likes of HH Holmes, Albert Fish, and J. Frank Hickey.
4. A purported 'Dear Boss' letter dated 9-17-1888, is it authentic or a modern day hoax.
5. Possibility of two John McCarthy's living at the Dorset Street address, one being the landlord of Mary Kelly, the other being a grocer.
6. Was John McCarthy serving as a pimp to Mary Jane Kelly and other prostitutes in Miller's Ct?
7. Letters to the Editor during the murders. Content based on brothels and 'bullies' (pimps).
8. Article on just what was the painting print found in Mary Kelly's room.
9. Another re-examining of the Bucks Row murder of Polly Nichols
10. A review of the U.S. Ripper conference.
11. "Jack - the Musical" article
12. Regular feature - news articles regarding suspects and a rebuffing of some suspects.
13. Regular feature - Book reviews... look for the fiction book Sojourn.
Overall - average with a few decent articles but nothing really stimulating. I could have done without #7, 8, 10, & 11; they seemed like filler material. I always enjoy #12 & 13.
Back on track!!!!.......2006-09-03
The last issue #25 seemed like it was full of filler material. However, this issue is chalked full of good articles and pictures. For the first time ever, a picture of Frederick Abberline, Mary Kelly's landlord, and a lot more articles of interest!
