I found it extremely useful and chock full of practical suggestions. It has not only helped me as a spouse of rageful driving husband, but he agreed to read it!! His agreement followed your recommendation of asking all the family members to write him a letter of what his problem has cost us emotionally. My son of 26 choose to tell him directly rather than write, but the talk was also very effective.
We are also utilizing your idea in contracting before riding together, and he is using the more of "the supportive" driver techniques (rather than being oppositional and so arrogant).( Progress not perfection!!) We both have a long road ahead of us- no pun intended- but your help was a phenonmenal series of tools to aide in ameliorating this life threatening problem. I have to add that I myself am a licensed psychologist in private practice in Ohio and I am now recommending your book in recurrent cases where wives (usually) complain of this concern.

This book offers a different approach - linking checklists and exercises to explanations of specific emotions and behaviors so you can understand your particular driving attitudes and actions. There are many practical suggestions for avoiding road rage and transforming your driving experience, all supported by real-life examples and scholarly research.
The book deals with all kinds of drivers and driving situations, with special attention to how we can teach our children and be good examples for them so that there won't be a new generation of road ragers. Hooray! Both Drs. James and Nahl have been providing loads of road rage information online at their DrDriving.org Web site for a number of years, and it's great to finally see the information in a single, comprehensive book. This book is somewhat personal in nature; the research began when Dr. James finally realized that his family members were concerned about his aggressive driving behavior. Are you the type to get hot-headed behind the wheel? Know a loved one who is? Consider reading the book yourself to understand the whys and how-tos, then share the book with the person. As psychology professionals, the authors provide a sound understanding as to WHY we drive aggressively. Combined with tips and extensive exercises, it makes for a very practical guide. Highly recommended.

Rendell has done it again! This is a masterful mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end.
Wexford's beloved Kingsmarkham is a village divided. A new bypass is scheduled to be constructed, and protesters descend on the quiet little town, causing havoc everywhere. Dora Wexford is kidnapped on the way to the train station. Within hours, it becomes apparent that four other people have been kidnapped as well, and what seemed like innocent protests take on a sinister cast.
Despite his personal involvement, Wexford is placed in charge of the investigation. Seemingly stymied, he still manages to pull off a grand unveiling of perpetrators in true Rendell style. Endless plot twists and larger-than-life characters have definitely made this my favourite of the Wexford novels.
Fans of Rendell's style of writing will be thrilled with this relatively recent effort, and if you're not yet a fan, this wouldn't be a bad place to start. I totally lost myself in this one, and I'm sorry it's over.

Ms. Rendell never disappoints, and this book is no exception. It is not for nothing that Ms. Rendell is considered to be the best writer of detective fiction around today. This book's subject is quite timely in that it explores the world of big business and construction against the effect on the environment. It also explores the issue of domestic terrorism. It's a page turner especially because Wexford's own wife is one of the kidnap victims who a radical environmental group is threatening to murder if their demands are not met. Wexford and his team race against time to learn the identity and whereabouts of the kidnappers. Certainly, Ms. Rendell is one of the best writers in this modern world!

If you've read this book, you might recall what my subject line refers to. I just loved this book. The characterizations and plot line were just so wonderful. I've been following Wexford and Co. since the books first came out and like how the characters have changed and developed over the years. And it's nice to see Dora Wexford have such a major role in this book.
If you like Ruth Rendell's "Wexford" series, read this book and it should make you happy too.
Engaging mystery.......2003-07-18
I'm not usually a reader of the "murder mystery" genre of fiction, but I picked this book up the other day when I was desperate for something to read on the train trip to work. Luckily, it was quite a good book, and engaged my attention to the point that I was almost sorry when my trip came to an end. The story was original and made me want to keep reading to find out how it would end.
Many Plot Twists........2003-03-26
"Road Rage" by Ruth Rendell. Subtitled: "An Inspector Wexford Mystery". Audio Book Version read by Christopher Ravenscroft. Random House Audiobooks, 1997.
I chose this audiobook because I thought it would be about the typical Californian or New York road rage where one person is yelling at or even shooting at another driver. The rage in this book, however, is anger against the building of a road through Markham Wood. At first it appeared that this might be the usual plot where an environmental group protests the construction of highway by kidnapping hostages. But, then, there are many plot twists.
The hostages were "randomly" selected by their unfortunate calling for a taxicab from a particular car for hire company. One of the hostages thus selected is Dora Wexford, wife of Inspector Wexford, which places a personal twist on the efforts of "Sacred Globe", the kidnapping environmental group, to enforce their position on the authorities. But there are even more twists than just this one, as Inspector Wexford pieces together all the clues and determines the location where the hostages are being kept, and where a hostage was killed. The ending is surprising!
I enjoyed the audiotape version of this book, performed by Christopher Ravenscroft, as I drove I-495, the ring road around Boston. To American ears, Mr. Ravenscroft did a credible job in providing "Cockney" accents, British police accents and, of course, the educated "Oxford" accent. He has a wide ranging repertoire of accents, for both male and female characters.

I sure hope so, this book was great and helpful. As a third year law student writing a paper examining road rage this was a great first step towards understanding road rage...this book led to other sources as well, but all in all a great starting place to create a good foundation for a paper.

I'm OK, It's OK.......2001-07-14
If you like self-help books, this one will appeal to you. It has all the usual checklists, self-assessments, and affirmations. The book is useful in picking apart what's at work in a one-on-one situation of "road rage." However, I disagree with Larsen's notion that otherwise well-adjusted people just turn into monsters when they are behind the wheel. The author needs to write another book in which he probes more deeply into the life situations of road-ragers. He has also proposed, in this book, a "report card" system for drivers, that has postively Orwellian overtones. On balance, the book is well written, with lots of real life examples to keep it readable. One of these examples contains a glaring omission on the author's part; see if you can find it.
Good for those with and without road rage........1999-08-30
An easy read. The book contains insight for those of you who are not prone to rage, helping you to understand those who are, and aids in avoiding those who are. The high-blood pressure types who act out on the road can get some tips on correcting their poor habits, perhaps saving their own lives, and at least preventing a heart attack!

The Strange Sound of Cthulhu starts with an introduction to Lovecraft's life. This provides good background for readers who are there for the musical aspect and unfamiliar with his writing. It is strait-forward, giving just the information needed to understand how he could still have an impact on music today, almost seventy years after his death.
The rest of the book is broken down into the musical genres he inspired. From psychedelic rock to country, groups little heard of all the way to big names, such as Black Sabbath and Metallica, have attributed some of their inspiration to Lovecraft.
Hill analyzes the songs--and even group names--that have roots in the literature of Lovecraft. The book compares lyrics with Lovecraft prose, and touches on music rumored to have Lovecraft ties. He gives details of each song, and in many cases, interviews with the artists behind the music. They discuss how their music ties in with Lovecraft, how they were introduced to his writing, and even their favorite Lovecraft tale.
Though the idea of seeing the music described in words may sound dull to some, Joshi was correct in the forward when he said, "Gary has that rarest of skills among music critics: the ability to describe a song, whether vocal or instrumental, in such a way that readers seem to hear it running through their heads."
Though Hill claims that the book is in no way exhaustive on the subject, it is as close to being exhaustive as it can get. It is designed to snare the readers that are there for the music to start reading Lovecraft, and the readers there for Lovecraft to look out for the music. I found myself getting out my old music to listen for what Hill describes.

This book is a great idea for someone that wants to solve a minor problem he may be having (such as dry hair, sunburn, or sore throat) without having to pay a doctor or look for advice for hours on the internet. This book lists several ailments and annoyances men suffer from, and provides a 2 to 5 page summary of what it is and how to treat it.

Garase examines aggressive driving and road rage among college students. Her approach is based in Agnew's General Strain Theory (GST) (1992). She uses GST theory to include the three sources of strain, situational and trait anger, and coping mechanisms (peer relationships and self-control). Strain has a direct, positive, significant relationship with road rage, and also an indirect effect through the coping mechanism of peer behavior. Garase concludes that strain as well as trait anger play significant roles in determining who is likely to participate in acts of aggressive driving and road rage.

I bought this book because I like Helen Chappell's writing. When I get homesick for the Eastern Shore I read her tales and it takes me right back home to Rock Hall - a town much like Oysterback.
This book appears to be a collection of Helen's columns, essays, and other musings. When I read this book, it seemed as if Helen was sitting at my kitchen table, having coffee and chatting with me about many of the thoughts and things we have in common. It was a comfortable book to read. So much of what I read is deliberately thought-provoking - and this book was more in line of comfort food for the brain. Just what the doctor ordered!
The chapter on Martha Stewart - with the one-line kudo to Erma Bombeck - was a special tickler to my funny bone.
This is not, and was probably not intended to be, great literature. But it IS relaxing, enjoyable, comfortable reading about the quotidian life and thoughts of one well-balanced lady. I wish she did live next-door.
