The verdict is in: those simple carbs we've been living on are killing us. For good health, we've got to get our blood sugar under control and stop the incessant cravings. Or so says Dr. Arthur Agatston, author of The South Beach Diet. The first half of the book details the science behind the diet. Most of the explanations revolve around why things you thought were healthy—-orange juice, wheat toast, carrots—-are actually evil. To avoid blood sugar surges, Agatston created a modified carbohydrate plan, recommending plenty of high-fiber foods, lean proteins, and healthy fats, while cutting bread, rice, pastas, and fruits. Major differences from other diets include a lack of concern over portion size and a serious indifference to exercise. Feeling full while on a diet is a beautiful thing, but it seems odd that a cardiologist buries his exercise recommendations in a solitary sentence.

The last half of the book covers his three-stage plan; daily diets are mixed with recipes, some of which are from South Beach restaurant chefs. The most restrictive period lasts just two weeks, enough time to stabilize your urges and lose a few pounds; stage two adds fruits and a handful of other carbs, while stage three is meant to last the remainder of your life, with occasional lapses for white bread or birthday cake. While the diet is sound, the book could be better organized. The first half mixes scientific study with anecdote in a seemingly random way, while the mix of meal plans and recipes can be confusing. I'm not one to follow diets usually, because I always believe in eat less/exercise more. Unfortunately that doesn't work, because when I exercise more, I eat more. When a friend recommended the South Beach I decided to read up about the philosophy first before jumping in. I had always been raised to think that carbohydrates are good and fats are bad. What Dr. Agaston explains is that there are good carbs and bad carbs, good fats and bad fats. The South Beach diet educates you on what is good for you, and what causes weight gain and harmful blood chemistry.

As for the mechanics of the diet, it is really quite simple. I never followed their menus, or their recipes. I just looked at the allowed foods and made up my own meals. I really hate to count anything, document anything or look things up. This diet doesn't require any of that, unless it is to count the number of peanuts you should have for a snack (which is really quite simple to do). It also doesn't require purchasing special meals, or drinks, or anything. Just follow the principles, adapt to your own tastes and off comes the weight.

There are 3 phases to the diet, all explained and easily understood. The book also explains the physiology of the diet, and why harmful swings in blood sugar can cause problems, including overweight, diabetes and heart disease. Once you get your blood sugar levels under control, you do not get cravings anymore or hunger pangs in between meals. It is really ironic that being on this diet does not make you hungry. In fact, starving yourself, or being hungry is counterproductive, since the key is to maintain a steady blood sugar state, so that you do not experience the feast/famine cycle which causes overeating, as well as overstorage of fat.

I've just purchased my sixth gift copy of The South Beach Diet. No, I don't go around sending it to people who I think need to drop some pounds. But when a friend wants to know how I lost weight or why we aren't eating potatoes or bread, and they seriously indicate an interest in following new food-eating patterns, I send them a copy. My husband and I bought a copy three years ago and embarked on our South Beach food adventure. Within six months, I had lost 40 pounds, he had lost the ten that was his goal, and while I have gained part of mine back after slipping off the path, I am now back on it to drop 10 lbs.

Dr. Agatston gives enough philosophy behind his diet suggestions, and his fairly rigorous first two weeks is succcessful quickly enough, that we found it easy to continue. And I can honestly say, I never felt hungry.

I have been there, I have seen it, I have done it all! Low carb, low fat, low this, low that... It took me many years to realize that diets are nothing else but what they are - just diets. I will NOT say they don't work. Sure they work! At least as long as you watch each and every bite you take! At least as long as you maintain your strong willpower. It IS nice to have good looks, but is that all we want from our lives? How about GOOD LOOKS resulting from GOOD HEALTH? Dr. Tombak in his book "Can We Live 150 Year" cites bad habits that lead people to obesity. Here are some of them:

1. The habit of eating fast and not chewing the food well
2. Drinking fluids at meals
3. Frequent snacking or constant chewing
4. Incorrect combining of food products
5. Lying down after meals
6. Sitting lifestyle
7. Eating while watching TV
8. Eating while irritated
9. Eating before bedtime or at night
10. Eating mostly refined and cooked food products.

Recognize some of them? Mr.Tombak, like Atkins and Agatston, also mentions eating too mach of carbohydrates. But he does not limit the cause of obesity to ONE SOURCE. Why? Because he applies COMMONSENSE. Because he puts GOOD HEALTH before GOOD LOOKS! Not good looks at all cost! Here is how he proposes to lose weight:

1. Correct the alignment of lumbar vertebrae. (Have you ever heard of this one? He explains why.)
2. Gradually and systematically increase the amount of your physical activities. (Nothing new, isn't it?)
3. Combine food products correctly. (We hear often about this one, too)
4. Perform internal cleansing routines and go through regular fasts.

Yes, just periodical short fasts that will cleanse your body, and shake off your cravings. It is nothing new! It is a simple procedure applied by many people around the world throughout ages. Larry Clapp in his book "Prostate Health in 90 Days" advocates the same. None of these unnatural diets throughout your entire life!...

I did a few days of fasting myself, and I strongly recommend this over any kind of diet to anyone who cares about his looks, his health, and his longevity. Periodical fasting energizes; purifies your body and mind; makes it easier to change your eating habits and to get back to natural, fiber-rich foods.

Everybody has his own opinion, but for me Tombak makes much more sense then Atkins, Agatston and all other inventors of "perfect diets"...

Why four stars for "The South Beach Diet"? -- Because it works! But at what cost to your lifelong pleasure, and (possibly) to your health? Be sensible. Read Can We Live 150 instead.

If you can't stick to the Atkins diet then this one will be even more of a challenge because with Atkins you get to eat higher fat contented foods where as with South Beach you have to choose the lower-fat, lower-calorie versions of the food you get to eat on the Atkins, I would recommend starting with Atkins(the strictest low carb plan) then after induction phase, try South Beach's induction then phases 2&3 shouldn't be too much of a problem to stick to.

Count me as one who doubted the South Beach approach. But...I'm in week three, have lost twenty pounds so far, and have enjoyed the variety of "diet" meal recipes Dr. Agatston provides. I highly recommend this.

This book reminds me a lot of "Body For Life." It has a very workable plan to lose weight and the diet and exercise strategies are clearly laid out and explained in sufficient detail. Readers will find plenty of pictures too of the exercises that they are instructed to do. Motivational in nature, it's laid back writing style should appeal to many. Readers who like this book might also be interested in The Sixty-Second Motivator to help keep up their motivation to diet. Good luck!

This is an easy to follow, straightforward eating and exercising lifestyle. It is not a diet, but a smart way to eat to maintain a healthy weight and great for your overall well-being. I had followed the same guidelines as outlined in Men's Health magazine and lost over 100lbs.to bring me to a normal weight and 6% body fat.

I like the fact that the authors explain how things work in our bodies (how protein intake relates to the increased metabolism resulting from the workout, and to the muscle growth; which foods are good for metabolism; which of them aid in weight loss or lowering cholesterol levels). Although the idea of having six meals a day does not always fit my busy schedule, the one of snacking with fruits and/or nuts between main meals does seem to be effective in my case. What I like most about the book is the well balance diet that does not exclude any food groups. I am a great believer in the nourishment based on natural foods and The Abs Diet fully supports this belief. Dr. Tombak in the book "Can We Live 150 Year" farther explains proper food combination and its effect on our bodies. For that reason his book is a very good addition to The Abs Diet.

The book overall is good, but the sections about eating fats confused me.
First he talks about the 1980's war against fat, and he says they were wrong, and that fats are good because without fats you cannot get your fat soluble vitamins, A, D, E, and K. I agree. But, then he says saturated fats are bad, and saturated fats are in milk and meat which is also the best protein sources. So I just want to know why he is advocating low fat when he says low fat diets are bad. He does recommend olive oil, nuts and fish because of the fats in those. I believe that whole dairy is better for you than skim, because it's more natural and less processed. Altering natural foods is what got us into trouble in the first place.

I do understand about choosing leaner meats because we fatten the cows by feeding them way too many grains and it increases their fat deposits, which is unnatural.

Also he recommends eating lunch meat, and lunch meat has an awful lot of chemicals, unfortunately.

I would have liked a recommendation of what to look for in a whey protein powder, because I had never purchased any before.

I am a subscriber of Men's Health magazine and am very familiar with the author. I know this author is excellent. This book explains, in great detail, nutrition and how the body processes food. It also provides rather basic excercises that anyone can do. Yep, I need to lose weight about 20 pounds. I am not a big "restrictive diet" person becuase I have tried them and failed in the long run. What this book really is about is eating better(more healthy), changing our eating habits and excercising - very basic. It gives you a diet plan to follow which is rather easy...eat six small balanced meals a day to keep your metabolisim running. This book heavily emphasizes custom "smoothies" (all with whey protein in them) as regular meal substitute but, personally, I am not a shake/smoothie fan. I am not a big fan of "cold" food either. Luckily the book gives you recipes for "hot" food you can make and they are easy to make. Please be aware that you need to excercise often if you use the shakes becuase of the whey protein and peanut butter in some of them. If you don't you will get even fatter.
Monotony is also a problem with diets so I also recommend the "6 minute meals for 6 packs abs book" as well. It gives you even more recipes. Realistically I can't imagine getting 6 pack abs in 6 weeks. I can see an already skinny person who might have gained a few pounds to accomplish this in that time frame but heavier people will take longer.
Overall it is a great read and helps you form a base for healthy eating and excercising.

If you are looking for a step-by-step guide to crawl out from under your financial rock, get control, and win with money, this is your book. Dave is a fantastic communicator, and part of that is his willingness to tell it like it is. If it's stupid, he calls it stupid; but always with the heart to see people change their lives for the better. Dave has said over and over that success with finances is only 20% knowledge, but 80% behavior. This book covers the basics of the head knowledge, but hopefully Dave's insights and the numerous personal narratives from real people who have implemented the plan and are winning with money will inspire you to change your behavior. If you need more convincing, just find his radio show or Web site and listen to how he helps people change their lives for the better.

Sure, the concepts in the book aren't new. But when you are in debt and need help, his crystal clear "baby steps" help you see that there is a way out of your mess. You realize that there are things you can start doing immediately to improve your situation.

I am a Registered Nurse and believe that this book WILL save lives if people will use his program. I brought my total cholesterol down 80 points in just 3 months-in my case, using old-fashioned oatmeal and 2 tbsp. milled flaxseed EVERY morning for breakfast and THEN following the South Beach Diet for the rest of the day. (I cannot go almost completely without carbs, it doesn't work for me.)My HDLs (good) are OVER 85 and my LDLs (bad) are less than 120. Triglycerides were great, at less than 100.My doctor was so shocked, he searched my records to make sure he had not prescribed a statin medication! I hope this is not too technical and helps you.

From the author/cardiologist of the popular "South Beach Diet" comes "The South Beach Heart Program" -a book designed to get and keep your heart in shape via a 4 step plan.

Step one is getting on a good diet. It should come to no surprise that the diet plan recommended is the heart healthy South Beach Diet. Step two is the exercise portion and the book recommend walking and strengthening exercises, particularly your core. The rationale here is that you can't keep your heart strong and exercise if your other muscles are weak. Step three is about getting the right tests. In other words, the earlier you get the tests, the better your chances are of preventing a heart attack or stroke. And finally, step four is getting the right medications one might need.

Good for anyone concerned about being heart healthy, I recommend this book for due to its comprehensive discussion of its subject in plain language. Also recommend The Sixty-Second Motivator for readers needing help making healthy lifestyle changes. Good luck!

I thought it fell short in providing "do's and dont's" for the diet. It was a wealth of information on the diagnosis and treatment of heart desease. I was looking for step by step instructions on how to follow the diet, I did not get much information at all on the subject.

This is an excellent book and should be required reading for all adults and probably on an exit exam for high school students. I have bought five copies of the book and given four away to friends and family. I will probably buy a few more. This book tells the reader how to analyze the problem, measure it and deal with it.

Mark Hyman deals with many myths associated with dieting and weight loss. He explains many not so obvious causes of gaining weight. He also reminds the reader of important rules to follow in order to keep not only thin but also healthy. All in all this is a good book for someone committed to losing weight and keeping it off. What I particularly liked about this book is its focus being shifted towards living healthy lifestyle. The author emphasizes the importance of cleansing the liver and detoxifying your whole body. This sounds to me like a revamp of the same good ideas so well presented in the book Can We Live 150 in which the author focuses exclusively on health and self-help (body cleansing, proper breathing, and using all the "natural doctors who are always with you"). Interestingly losing weight seems to be the natural outcome of one's healthy lifestyle. This has at least been so in my case.

Diets are boring; working out is worse. Then you find you have to do something because your doctor is on your case. This plan actually works. I was introduced to it by a trainer at a gym and I have not just my own progress to monitor but also a bunch of other over-the-hill types in the same boat as me. We're stronger, slimmer, and walk proud. It gives step by step instructions on weight lifting how-tos, power bars, the usual what-to-eat/what-not-to-eat, multi-vitamins - absolutely everything. Besides being a good read, it motivates the reader into action.

Having long been a fan of Bill Phillips and devotee of Body For Life, I was intrigued by the idea of Body For Life For Women and bought a copy as a gift for my wife. Day One: I received the book in the mail. Day Two: My wife and I each read the book and discussed it. Day Three: I returned the book by mail. Why? Two reasons. First, the material about the four phases of a woman's life, although interesting, was quite useless to her exercise and nutrition program, and the rest of the material didn't offer more than that found in the original Body For Life. Second, we found the book not as well organized, presented, and illustrated as the original and it included many unnecessary charts and tables. Simply put, my wife decided she will stick with the Phillips original because it's complete and so much better.

Are you kidding me? Let me start by saying that I have not read the entire book- but I don't need to!! Ladies- don't sell yourself short...why would you NOT follow the original BFL plan? Eat clean and balanced, train hard, believe in yourself...it's that simple. The very IDEA of "BFL book for women" suggests that women cannot/will not succeed with the original plan....ridiculous. Get Bill Phillips book instead and go get 'em girl!!

Why bother with this when you can get the real meat of the program in Bill Phillip's Body For Life minus the negative subliminal messages?
Something I notice with women authors, ESPECIALLY when they write about women's health.. is they tend to predetermine what you will experience at what age.. ie, power of suggestion like "when you are past 40, your body won't digest as well as it did before" "When you get older, your bones start to become brittle" "When you get past 40 you tend to not have as much energy" YES.. she actually says this in her book!!!
PLEASE!!! Woman.. why are you trying to reiterate the negative media about women and their health?
AND....what really makes me mad is that she's using the good name of Body for Life to promote these subliminal messages!! You don't find any of that mess in the BFL book.
I, myself, am over 40 and I have experienced none of what she said I "should be" experiencing.. my energy level, health, physical and mental stamina are all there just as much as they were when I was 20... I never expected them not to be. If you start believing these messages you will start to give up.. because you think you're "supposed to at this age". In the long run, it's all up to you what you decide to believe and experience and what suggestions you let into your mind. Whether it is intentional or unintentional, beware of bad messages wrapped up in a "positive" looking package.

Barbara Rollins puts forth a not altogether original concept to the tune of eating more for less calories. A sort of "Cooking Light" meets "South Beach". There are some good recipes and I especially like that she compares the recipes with pictures and nutritional information side by side.

Despite its sensational title, David Bach's The Automatic Millionaire: A Powerful One-Step Plan to Live and Finish Rich is not a get-rich-quick guide. Rather, the book is a straightforward march through common-sense personal financial planning that suggests readers "automate" their contributions to retirement and investment vehicles. Bach, in fact, calls his model the "tortoise approach" to becoming wealthy by retirement age.

In the early part of the book Bach builds on ideas he established in Smart Women Finish Rich and other bestselling titles. His core principle is that, to succeed, you must "Pay Yourself First." In other words, he suggests using pre-tax retirement accounts (i.e. 401(k)s, IRAs, or Roth IRAs) to set aside a fixed, monthly sum of money before considering what is left for living expenses. The "automatic" part of the title comes from Bach's emphasis on using automated payroll deductions to avoid the temptation of using the money to pay today's bills.

Bach insists that "regardless of the size of your paycheck, you probably already make enough money to become rich." But his claims that his plan requires "no budget, no discipline," is a bit disingenuous. His discussion of the "The Latte Factor" shows that, to find money to start a retirement plan, a person with a modest income needs to make an up-front commitment to stop accruing debt and to reduce spending on such "wasteful" items as lattes and cigarettes.

In the end The Automatic Millionaire does not offer much that is new for readers already familiar with personal finance basics like accelerated mortgage payments, "the miracle of compound interest," and the setting up of emergency funds. But, for those just starting with financial planning, Bach provides a host of resources to put recommendations into action. He walks his readers through such fundamentals as shopping for interest rates, creating a balanced retirement portfolio, and consolidating debt. And then they could have taught me. This is so logical and easy, it is stupid that it isn't taught as "Post-Adult Survival, 101". This is the way to create your retirement without missing anything.

And about the time you are fifty, you will be able to look back and smile because you are able to retire, and young enough to enjoy it. It should be illegal to NOT make this book mandatory reading for high school seniors.

Life-Changing. This book is truly life-changing! When I first read it, I understood what has held 80% of all Americans back financially speaking which is not understanding the power of saving, the constructive used of compound interest and the total avoidance of credit card debt. Though I found it hard to believe when I read the title, I saw upon reading that it is indeed possible to to become an automatic millionaire through a very creative and powerful savings plan exercised over 10, 20 or 30 years.

I bought this book about a year ago and read it pretty quickly. I've read most of the classic personal investing books, so for me, this book is sort of an insult to my intelligence. I just read it again since it's a quick read and I'm still not impressed with it.

If you know little about investing (i.e. if you don't know how to calculate future value on a financial calculator) then I imagine this would be a good book to get a basic understanding of the importance of saving and the miracle of compound interest. I also imagine, as some reviewers have mentioned, that this book would be a good gift for a college grad (if not a business major) or a couple just starting out (if you feel they have no clue about money).

This is just "The Wealthy Barber" repackaged and even more elementary. I can sum this book up in one sentence: forgo the coffee and invest the money in mutual funds. The rest is just filler.

If you really want to read a book on investing, John Bogle's "Common Sense on Mutual Funds" is the best for the mutual fund investor. It will take a little more intellectual curiosity to get through, but the man (who started the Vanguard family of mutual funds) is a genius and you will have a much better understanding of the necessity, risks, and rewards of investing for having read it.

"The Auto-Matic Millionaire" is for neophytes starting out (regardless of age) but it could have gone farther. If this book has the information you need it can be helpful. But it barely scratches the surface.

In addition to the "pay yourself first" DCA (dollar-cost averaging), compound interest, and numerous financial website addresses, there is continuous advice of: "save something, and don't spend all your money." This has now become the too-late (attention Baby Boomers) national anthem of the United States. But nobody's really listening.

Author David Bach presents an occasional chart to illustrate the mathematical factual points. One basic chart on compound interest used 3 examples of three hypothetical people named "Billy, Susan and Kim" who start compounding at the ages of 15, 19, and 27. And yes, time is of the essence. The more of it the better. We know starting early provides enormous advantages down the road. But there is something missing in this chart on page 49. In the compound interest model, if managed mutual funds are used with 12b-1 fees, portfolio turnover costs and taxes, the returns are reduced drastically. Many of these fees are hidden. The total Expense Ratios must be carefully perused. They significantly eat into returns over time. Time not your friend anymore, and becomes your enemy.

Bach's note of the time and financial saving on paying a bi-weekly mortgage instead of once per month is helpful (page 181) but still widely known by just about anyone with, a mortgage.

Pay yourself first: old news here. We hope that we workin' folks would pay ourselves first. There is an outlined grid that can be xeroxed and filled out where one can list the money spent and/or wasted and tallied up at the end of the week. Want to know how to hire the right financial planner? This info, you won't find. You'll have to go to the author's website.

Again, this book doesn't go too deep. The information contained in it can be found on the web or via Bob Brinker for free. This isn't necessarily negative, because this small book contains lots of information in a portable paperback, that can benefit a junior high school student. But your tiny home calculator can compute compound interest just as well as this book.

"The Fat Flush Plan" presents foods, herbs, spices, and supplements that help you cleanse your body, speed up fat loss, and lead healthier live. It will help you adopt healthy eating habits. What the book is missing, in my opinion, is other aspects of healthy living. Proper nutrition is important but it is only a small part of it. For much more comprehensive information on healthy lifestyle I highly recommend getting "Can We Live 150"

I bought this book a few years ago, and it worked out very well. I lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks without ever working out. Then when I started working out I lost another 15 lbs the next week. However, this an expensive style of eating to maintain. I call it a style of eating, because it really wasn't like a "diet" to me compared to every other one I had been on. But with what my husband and I make, I just couldn't afford to keep buying the expensive foods. Since I stopped using the book I still use flax seeds in things when I remember, and drink lemon water and cranberry juice often, but I have gained back every pound and then some! I would recommed this book to people, but with a disclaimer staing "be prepared to pay big bucks!" However, if you are overweight/obese and have many health problems that require you to take medications, this book would be well worth the try and the money. Because for a lot of people I know, they've eventually been taken off of their expensive medications. And eating healthy is always safer and cheaper than taking prescription meds every day. And no one should expect this to be a quick fix, nor any other diet! It takes hard work and determination to stick to any healthy eating plan. If you eat junk for years on end, and then begin to eat healthy, wether or not you follow this particular plan, you can expect to lose some amount of weight, it will vary with for everyone. But if you just go right back to eating the way you were before, obviously you're going to gain the weight back! It took me a while to realize that, but at least I did realize it, right? By the way, why are naturally, healthy, good for you foods so expensive compared to overprocessed junk food?

As a 44-year old woman who exercises regularly, eats very well and takes a handful of supplements everyday, I just wanted to lose a few pounds in my chest and waistline. I was not overweight to begin with. However, I had this book on the shelf and decided to give it a whirl. I didn't make it through Phase One. I thought it wouldn't be too bad since I don't like sweets and I rarely eat anything with high-fructose syrup or sugar. I also only eat whole grain "good" carbs and I used to be a vegan so excluding dairy would be no problem. Even foregoing my wine was easy. However, I found this diet too restrictive and the recipes bland and boring. Come on!!! I love curries!! Isn't tumeric suppose to be good for you? I was extremely lethargic for the whole time and had to take 2-hour naps during the day. My head hurt tremendously and I was foggy, unfocused and dizzy all the time. Let's not even discuss my mood swings and periods of craziness. With my blood pressure being somewhat low, I was concerned that I was not getting enough sodium. One day I was so out of it that my husband suggested I drink a V-8 juice which has alot of sodium. I drank 1/2 a can and felt better in almost minutes.

I was so fatigued that I had to forego my daily 1.5 hour bike rides. Clearly this is counter-productive to losing weight. Overall, I would not recommend this diet to anyone who isn't overweight and just wants to lose a few pounds. I think I'll just go back to eating well and exercising but I'll just eat smaller portions.

I want to join in with the other Fat Flushers who have stated with absolute conviction that this plan works. I lost 15 lbs. on this plan. I don't want to use the term "diet" because this book is intended to be a lifestyle change. This book has helped me to detox my liver, cleanse my colon, and be more aware of what goes into my body. I started the Fat Flush Plan because I wanted to lose weight. After reading this book, some of what she said really scared me because I knew it was true. I could tell by the way I felt. This book helped me to get rid of that awful feeling. I succeeded on the Plan because I used the sample menus and adjusted them to my liking. To be honest, there are quite a few foods for which I don't care. I have taken as my own a lot of Ann Gittleman's recommendations. Most of my food is organic and fresh. I don't eat any processed foods anymore. If I can't find what I'm looking for in the grocery store, then I go to my favorite health food store. I fix a lot of her recipes. My favorite is "Yummy Meatloaf." Of course, I love the smoothies. This book has opened my eyes to a lot of things that damage our bodies,and it gives the tools on how to repair them. By drinking the cran-water, my cellulite has greatly diminshed. For anyone thinking of starting this plan, or is in the midst of it, you have to stick with it. Adjust the menus to your liking and don't skip a meal. The first phase of the plan is probably the hardest. Once you're through that, you'll be glad that you did it. I didn't feel hungry or deprived, and I didn't have any cravings. I was a coffeeholic, but I've been able to get rid of that addiction. These changes have made me more energetic; my attitude is a very positive one; and my skin looks better. In another review, someone made mention of Ann Gittleman's products. I use them, and have been quite happy with them. The whey protein is excellent. They are a tad bit expensive, but the way that I look at it is that purchasing these products and eating healthy is money well spent on avoiding doctor bills in the future! So, I highly recommend this book!

Before reading this book I have never thought that opening a small restaurant might be so involved process. But I guess it is better to learn it before you invest your money. I am glad I read this book it opened my eyes and allowed to look behind my dream of being a restaurant owner. I would not say this book discouraged me - not at all. I will be able to make more educated decisions instead of emotional ones.

Recommend it to everyone who thinks of opening a restaurant business.

This Restaurant starter kit is a good reference as well as the companion CD that provides a sample business plan. From preliminary information gathering in preparation to writing the business plan such as market research, audience, expected clientele, scope of perceived services, menu planning this resource provides all the pieces necessary to guide you through the start-up process.
The section on software is expertly done in providing the layperson with a grasp of the software available and will save a fortune in missteps if read and followed. The choice in software can undoubtedly determine the quality and speed that you develop your plan.
Sharon Fullen does an exceptional job in guiding the layperson through the process of the feasibility analysis to include concept, location, execution and financing thus rounding out the completed business plan. The idea of a marketing plan is discussed showing the importance of a well-planned and executed marketing effort versus just tossing a few bucks to the wind and hoping for the best. The author has provided an invaluable tool for the upcoming restaurateur as he/she plans, develops and opens their life dream.
