Book Description
After years in the shadow of her movie-star sister, Monica, Anna Vincenzi finally sheds that extra weight. Now she's a knockout-and her emerging beauty has escaped no one, least of all her sister.
But when Monica is found floating face down in her pool, the once-mousy Anna suddenly finds herself thrust into the spotlight-fighting to clear her name of murder. The entire Carson Springs community rallies around her, but, to her surprise, it's the handsome, insightful Dr. Marc Raboy who becomes her most ardent supporter...

Great book.......2006-03-09
Like the other books in the Carson Springs series, this is an excellent book. The plot is different from the others which keeps it interesting. I like how the characters from the other books are all involved in the story as well.
Not her absolute best, but a great read!.......2005-11-09
Ms. Goudge's stories are always interesting with well rounded characters, complex enough to seem real, the storylines are a bit out there, but that's what makes them interesting. This book was no different. I found I didn't enjoy it as much as her other books, but maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this kind of writing, or Anna (the main character) wasn't as interesting to me as the other characters. I really enjoyed the scenes narrated by Finch, the young teenaged runaway adopted by Laura and Hector.
This particular book is about Anna Vincenzi, the sister of famous movie star Monica Vincent, who is a whiny, controlling wheelchair-bound alcoholic, and also Anna's employer. When Monica is found dead, Anna gets blamed and thus the plot. Anna also undergoes a metamorphosis (which at times seems forced), losing weight and learning to stand up for herself. The Carson Springs series is fun to read, I would recommend any of Goudge's books, particularly "Such Devoted Sisters".
Third in the series stands on its own.......2005-11-01
Anna Vincenzi has spent most of her life in her sisters' shadow. Monica Vincent, a famous actress who is now confined to a wheel chair has always kept Anna down, and played on her fears and lack of self-esteem. When Anna is not waiting hand and foot on Monica or answering her fan mail, she is taking care of their mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's.
Monica, an alcoholic, takes a tumble and as a result, Anna and other sister Liz decide that she needs rehab. This rehab requires that the family get involved in therapy, and soon family secrets are on the verge of being revealed, and Anna slowly comes out of her shell as she falls for the therapist, Marc Raboy.
Marc returns her affections as they embark on an affair but admits that they cannot have anything more than an affair, and he can tell that is not something that she can do. Marc is married a schizophrenic who was committed to a hospital 18 months earlier. He has affairs, but does not let his heart get involved.
Several months later, when Anna finally stands up for herself and announces her intention to no longer serve as Monica's personal assistant (and slave), suddenly Monica's lifeless body has been found in the pool, and all suspicions turn to Anna. Marc steps out of the self-imposed exile to help Anna until the situation can be resolved, but what then?
There is a secondary story of Finch's quest to find her birth family, when she comes across a stage hand from the Carson Springs movie with the same name as her. Could it be her grandmother? While a little weak, it does set up the next eventual story set in Carson Springs. There are plenty of characters from pervious Carson Springs novels populating this story as well. Goudge always does a good job of folding the other characters into the storyline without making it feel forced, but for readers not familiar with the other two novels, it may be a little confusing.
Absolutely a joy to read.......2005-06-04
I fell across the first book in this series at a used bookstore. By the end of the book I was so hooked on the community created by this author I immediately went out looking for the other books...The characters are fully drawn with all our human foibles, flaws and interests. I really enjoyed all 3 books and hope that the author revisits Carson Spring again soon. I know I will be re-reading these again & again this summer.
GREAT READ.......2004-06-26
Eileen Goudge is one of the most compelling writers of our time. In A WISH CAME TRUE, we see Anna overcome her sister's shadow into a confident woman. It is a compelling story, she writes about characters that are as real as you and me. The entire Carson Spring series is captivating with characters that you can easily relate to. Highly recommend this book, as well as the entire series, and any of her other novels.

Make a Wish, Any Wish!
Engaging, innovative, and fresh, Gahl Sasson's approach to Kabbalah -- the ancient teachings of Jewish mysticism -- integrates mythology, scholarship, and practical exercises for seekers of both material and spiritual gratification. Based on his popular Tree of Life workshops, which incorporate meditation, dreams, and real-life synchronicities with myths, rituals, and philosophies from around the world, A Wish Can Change Your Life provides a universal path to finding and embracing all of life's riches. It teaches readers of every faith and religious background how to use the energies of the Tree of Life -- the blueprint for the creation of the universe -- to fulfill any wish, whether it is for material gain (a new car, a higher salary), personal improvement and pleasure (weight loss, a better job, more intimacy with a partner), or a life-changing message from God.

This book is amazing and easy to use.......2006-02-17
I have been teaching creative expression and manifestation classes and this book really brings the concepts to reality. Most Kabbalah books are hard to understand and complicated. This one is not! The book is a magical journey and should not be done alone. The miracles are so profound you will want someone doing it with you to share your discoveries. The story telling is wonderful and the activities are clear and insightful. I have read this book 5 times or more and I see something new each time. I was so inspired, started teaching workshops around this topic just to say in community and keep the energy going around wishes and dreams fulfilled. Get a copy for yourself and get a copy for a friend, you will love this book.

I love this book.......2004-07-16
I actually tested this and it works. The book is very easy to read and follow. I tested one wish and it's amazing how the Universe responded to my wish by giving me signs of synchronicities. I really believe we must not ignore those omens if they keep occurring. LIfe wants us to achieve our dreams and wishes and if we really want something, the universe will respond and give it more power if it's made of love, appreciation and gratitude. I am grateful that I found this book. :)
A very interesting experience.......2004-03-21
Gahl Sasson is a very wise man mixing the Kabbalah knowledge and myths into an interesting and important blend that made my own dreams come true. This book is most recommended for all people looking for improving their life.

A Gift Book of Wishing Makes the "Best Wishes" You can Gift.......1999-11-17
How on earth did the author research so many ways that people make wishes - from all over the world! This makes fun reading even if you're not into wishing - though the author makes a point of taking wishing out of the superstition category and placing it in the human realm of stating goals, relating it to current practices of affirmations, and suggests that wishing works best when rooted in reality. This book lifts itself well out of the fantasy area by quoting poets and sages - many well-known names. I can see this as a general book to fill many gifting needs, from graduations, new jobs, get-well wishes, and the wishingest time of all - birthdays.

One Last Wish.......2006-09-29
Lurlene Mcdaniel has written an extremely wounderful book called "One Last Wish". Themes of discovering the tragic story behind a struggle for survival against impossible odds. The novel is written in first person narrative style by a character named Jenny Crawford. Who is Jenny Crawford? A 16 year old girl who struggles for survival and understands the love and friendships that develop into a legacy of giving. Falling deeply in love, Jenny dosen't really tell Richard Holloway the way she really feels about hime. Closer do they become after finding out that Jenny's life is completly destroyed with leukemia. Though towards the end of the story Jenny learned that suffering does not respect people and who they are. Knowing that she only had little time to live,Jenny made her grandmother promise to make sure she made out her will. She wanted to leave something meaningful behind. A special trust fund of one hundred thousand dollars, for other sick teenagers. Which she called it her "One Last Wish". As I read the story it made me feel all the pain Jenny had to go through, and even though she had leukemia Richard didn't care, and admired her with all his heart. Besides all the extreme characters,I really enjoyed reading this novel by Lurlene Mcdaniel. The imagery in this story gives you an exact picture in your mind, anthor good reason why I enjoyed reading this story. The story could have been better if the author would of let us know what Richard Holloway ended up doing in his life. After reading the pain Jenny had struggled with it was disapointing to read that she passed away. Reading this story makes you realize whats good in life, and the things you should appriciate. The narrator draws you into the world of Jenny Crawford, which is what a good novel is all about.

Patricia Kay delivers . . . again.......2007-07-25
As a fan of Patricia Kay's previous work, I really enjoyed Wish Come True. Kate Bishop needs money in a bad way, to keep the roof over her children's head . . . and when she wins a multimillion dollar Jackpot in the Texas Lottery, it's all her dreams come true. Or is it? With strangers stalking her, and friends and even family harassing her for money, she starts to wonder if it's all worth it. Patricia Kay captures the dynamics of family relationships and the human condition in a way that will make you want to laugh . . . and cry.
Careful What You Wish For.......2007-07-08
Do you dream of winning big on the lottery? If you do, Patricia Kay's engaging novel may make you think again.
Kate Bishop is a divorced single mother with four teenage children. Her finances are usually stretched, but now, her car is just about ready to die and, to add insult to injury, her roof is in desperate need of repair. Making her way home one evening, Kate stops off at the filling station. At the checkout, the clerk asks if she'd like a lottery ticket. She doesn't usually waste her money on them, but, having seen how big the jackpot was, Kate makes the purchase. A couple of days later, she is twenty-eight million dollars better off.
The story is so well told that you really don't want to put the book down. Patricia Kay gets straight down to business as Kate wins the lottery very early on in the novel. Although the novel mostly follows Kate's life, there are brief interludes where the action concentrates on her siblings and children. Her extended family are particularly fascinating. As I imagined myself in Kate's situation, I spluttered my astonishment on a couple of occasions as her siblings' greed got the better of them: "You've got twenty-eight million dollars and you're only giving me how much?"
`Wish Come True' does not send out the message that winning the lottery is necessarily a bad thing, but it is a cautionary tale. The downside is highlighted to great effect as Kate's life and that of her family changes. The romantic element is not overemphasized in this novel, but it has an added level of intrigue because of the nature of the story.
Please, Lord, don't let me win the lottery.......2007-03-13
When Kate Bishop, a divorced mother of four, wins the lottery jackpot, she brings home a payout of $28 million--and twenty-eight million challenges.
Soon, strangers demand charity, her children's friends expect hand-outs, and Kate's siblings--as well as her ex, are making plans for what they assume will be their shares. Then things get worse.
In WISH COME TRUE, Kate and her children have twenty-eight million lessons to learn, and most of them hurt. Greed derails some relationships and doubt about people's motives grounds others.
Patricia Kay's books explore the bonds of family, and this one is no exception. WISH COME TRUE also offers an unblinking look at the peer pressure faced by pre-teens and teenagers.
By the story's end, Kate has a better handle on wealth, but the reader knows she and her money will be working hard for decades to come.
Did I mention this reviewer won't buy another lottery ticket? Ever.
interesting tale.......2007-03-08
Kate Bishop prays to God for a miracle because she and her four teenage kids have financial problems. Her ex-spouse does provide child support for the younger two, but that is not enough even with her salary from her job she and her offspring live check to check.
God answers her prayer when Kate wins the lottery. She assumes her troubles are over as she can afford things that she did without. However, her extended family including those related to her ex wants hand-outs as they believe she should cover their fiscal troubles. Even strangers demand she fork over money for a cause or themselves. Kate is overwhelmed with the demands as she begins to ponder sometimes you get what you wished for.
The premise is terrific as the lead protagonist learns sometimes you get what you wish for when she wins the lottery and everyone she knows and many she does not come out of the woodwork like rats leaving a ship demanding money. However, too many secondary characters overwhelm at times the premise as few except perhaps Kate's insistent sister seem developed enough to matter. Still Kate's changed status means changed woes making for an interesting tale.

When I Wish, I Blow Bubbles.......2001-01-14
A key point made by Pearsall is based on the Hawaiian kahuna (shaman) tradition that we can wish "well" or poorly". Sometimes we try so hard that we find it difficult to surrender to the larger healing. He writes, "Wishing is the enemy of the positive thinker who prides herself on being so strong-willed that there is little need for mysticism or the equanimity of wishing. Wishing is much too passive, gentle, and humble for the needy and power-motivated brain." So in wishing well we let go of needing to be in control, of expecting a specific outcome. We focus on serenity, delight, purpose, meaning, and compassion vs. "trying" to heal a certain part of the body in a certain way. It involves a kind of easy flow with the cosmos. This quality is conveyed by one person who said, "When I wish, I blow bubbles..." Pearsall (who was himself healed overnight from "terminal" disease) tells us that it is important to relax, be patient, wish from the heart (vs. the mind), connect lovingly; to allow "the surrender of self."
Wishy-washy wish book is not worth your while.......2000-07-04
If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride. Or so the old saying goes. This dull, pedestrian treatise begs a little more horsepower in its chapters.
Can't sleep? Then do pick up "Wishing Well." It takes a rather childish subject and tries make it into a medical research project.
Author Paul Pearsall, who appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show with this book, can't decide what sort of book he wants to write. One minute, he's telling you about his strange near death experience in the hospital, the next, about parents talking to their kids when watching a meteor shower. He may then jump to the psychology of wishing or tell you about a witch doctor's wish or draw confusing diagrams about wising on stars. Oh yes, there's also a lot of pop quizzes to further muddle up the reader.
Wasn't it Washington Irving who said great minds have purposes, others have wishes? Pearsall has a lot of wishes, but doesn't seem to have a clear purpose in writing this book. Even at Amazon.com's great prices, you may end up wishing you hadn't bought it!
Wishing Well by Paul Pearsall PhD.......2000-05-13
Dr Pearsall's book is very timely. His ability to incorporate a state of the art CD, ShapeChanger, as a free addition to this book is truly amazing. This CD which independently sells on the web for $49.95 allows you to practice making your wishes come true and it gives you your score on how well you are wishing, I'am familiar with the work of MindSong Inc who produced the CD and the work of the PEAR Lab at Princeton on whose research the CD is based but to actually watch your intention,"Wish", manifest itself on a computer screen using nothing more than your thoughts is pretty amazing. I guess Quantum theory, Bell's theory and PEAR's lab research are proving by this CD that we really do live in an observant reality and anything is possible or better yet the power of positive thinking is backed by scientific fact. Wishing Well proves it!Wishing Well is a paradigm shifter! This book is the key that teaches you how to make your wishes come true! (Yes, I loved the Book:)
Getting to the Heart of Wishing.......2000-05-07
Dr. Pearsall's book shows how to find greater success with our "wishful thinking" by taking stock of our heart-head tendencies (using a head-heart inventory self-test). The idea is to learn to "cardiocontemplate", as Paul Pearsall playfully puts it, in order that our heart can "have its way rather than allowing your brain to busy you with trying to get its way". Pearsall describes the characteristics of mature wishers as being persistently patient, harmoniously connected, pleasantly agreeable, modestly humble, and kindly tender -- in other words, loving in five different ways. One of my favorite sections in Pearsall's book is his concept of the "Wish Star", where we can focus on the five key domains of what we are wishing for -- such as serenity, compassion, meaning, purpose, and delight (along with the darker realms of turmoil, loneliness, despair, stagnation, and disillusionment). This book is full of fascinating information, and it even comes with a CD-ROM wish training program for Windows!
Mind Boggle!!!!.......2000-04-25
This book is very interesting...Hard to put down! Your mind is the strongest power that exist. If you put your whole hearted soul into a thought, it can come true. The CD is a great tool to practice with! The whole family enjoys it.

fun read, but the heroine needed work.......2003-06-19
I love reading good fantasy romance, where the fantasy feels like an intergal part of the story. This was definitely the case with this book. Zoe, a practical single mother, agrees to help her best friend and her daughter to summon a djinni. Despite Zoe's skepticism, the spell works, and Simon the djinni is bound to grant her three wishes. Simon and Zoe are attracted to one another, but there's a lack of trust on either side: Simon has seen so much ugliness in humanity that he has trouble trusting Zoe, and Zoe has trouble trusting wishes because of the actions of her ex-husband. I actually ended up feeling more for Simon than for Zoe. In spite of all the reasons he had for not opening up, he actually turned out to be more willing to trust than Zoe. Zoe's stubborness was often really annoying - she didn't want to open up to her friends/business partners, and she didn't want to open up to Simon. She was probably the most exhausting character in the book. However, in my opinion, Simon made up for all of that, and I ended up really enjoying this book. I usually end up reselling romance that I buy, but I think this one's a keeper.
Cute.......2003-02-03
Ok I want a djinni. I mean who wouldn't. Well the heroine of this book didn't. Her daughter and her wacky neighbor conjured him up and now she has to deal with him. Now if he looked like the cover mode I could think of several ways to "deal" with him but its not my story so I won't go into those.
I liked Simon. He was a marvel. He took his djinni duties seriously but longed for the freedom that had been denied him. I didn't care much for Zoe, the heroine, though. She seemed too interested in her business than in her daughter and of course in Simon. I mean it was good that she wanted her business to succeed but at what cost. I just felt that her character could have lightened up a bit. She did come to her senses a bit toward the end.
I did enjoy the secondary characters. They added to the total mayhem and brought lots of humor to the book. I would love to read a book about Darius.
I would recommend this book for a lite afternoon read.
This couldn't get much better........1999-12-27
I really enjoyed this book. It was a little slow in the middle, but on the whole it was very good. Zoe was a really strong woman and is trying to do what a million of other women are trying to do. It is nice to read of one doing well and making it against all the odds.
A thoroughly enjoyable book!.......1999-06-14
Kathleen Nance has come up with a great book! I loved the idea of the Djinni, and you don't even need a bottle to call one up. Just know the right spell. This book is well written, well paced and has lots of adventure and romance. A good read!
Could've been much more........1999-06-10
Don't get me wrong, I love Simon the djinn. I want to know the ritual to summon djinns like him to do the housework. This book, however, could've fun and wonderful if not for the heroine.
She is one of those irritatingly too-independent heroine whom you need a crowbar to pry out anything from her. Tight-lipped to the point of not telling her own company partners the company's in trouble (that's irresponsible) I want to shake her silly after a while. She ruined the fun of the story. What was the author thinking?
Customer Reviews:
loved it.......2007-05-13
Really just buy this book for your self and all your friends. Cal garrison is just so witty. Chase your dreams with attitude.
truthful and heartfelt.......2005-03-07
The Old Girls' Book of Dreams is way different than Ms. Garrison's first book, The Old Girls' Book of Spells. If you're in the market for spells the latter is your best bet. But if you want inspiration, words of wisdom (and humor by the way) to get you pumped up for every Cross Quarter, The Old Girls' Book of Dreams is loaded with both.
For parts of it, I was in tears, because the author writes from her heart, and from her experience in an honest and truthful way. In other sections, she had me cracking up laughing because she talked about things that are the same for all of us with a wry smile and a sense of humor. Between the lines it's clear that this lady has been through it all. You feel like you're sitting down at the kitchen table with a wise old witch who's too real to put on airs. There's no pontificating or rhapsodizing about the Goddess here - The Old Girls' Book of Dreams is a down to earth affair.
What I got out of it in the end was a way to envision what I want out of my own life along with practical, workable ways to make those dreams manifest. You'll love the blank pages too. They will help you keep track of your self, and offer space to write down whatever it is that you're wanting and wishing for. Check this book out. It's a good one.
A really awesome, wise, and funny book. Good for any woman,.......2003-10-15
The Old Girls'Book of Dreams was given to me by a friend of mine who's into Wicca. You can tell the author isn't one of those witches who plays at it. I got the feeling her whole life is about magic because when you read this you will see that there is magic in everything. Take the time to read the introduction closely. I found that the heart meditation she talks about is pretty incredible and the instructions for it are there. The rest of what she has to say about weaving your dreams and remaining tuned to the rhythm of the natural world is told with a fresh, honest perspective on it all. This is not one of those books that just rehashes the run of the mill affirmation stuff. If you're into astrology you'll get a fresh breeze blown up your skirt too. What the author has to say about the signs of the zodiac is woven into everything she has to say about witchcraft. I would recommend this book to anyone, whether they're into magic or not. And any age too. I'm buying a bunch of them to give away because it's THAT good. Besides, there's room to journal and plenty of space to sort out your own thoughts about things. The Old Girls' Book of Dreams is full of fresh wisdom. It shines a big light on the creation process and the whole experience of being a WOMAN!
