Who knows the truth about her family?
Who wants to keep her past hidden forever?
Caitlin Prescott was only a baby when her parents disappeared. Adopted by a wealthy Texas oil family, she became Kate Montgomery, and grew up with no memory of her parents or her two older sisters and brother, who have been searching for her, hoping to right a terrible wrong that was committed twenty-two years ago in a small Texas town.
Now an ambitious young news reporter, Kate realizes she is being stalked soon after landing her dream job at an Austin TV station. Why did a car try to run her down? Who would want to kill her? Turning her precarious situation into a story, she takes on a bodyguard and follows him on the job. But she didn't plan on the cool, blade-sharp strength of Teague Ramos or the attraction that sizzles between them. When Teague connects the death of an Austin socialite to unanswered questions about Kate's childhood, she finds herself unlocking dangerous doors to her past. Now, with only her mysterious bodyguard to protect her, Kate is on a high-stakes chase that may lead her to the family she has never known -- or into the trap of a ruthless killer.

A great finish to the series.......2005-09-02
Christina Dodd did a great job with CLOSE TO YOU - but then, I love books where the hero is a bodyguard for the heroine. It wasn't a mystery because we know who done it, but the suspense to see if the bad guy gets Kate is riveting and the ending tied up all the loose ends left in the oother two books. That scene in the graveyard is positively spooky - I got chills. Teague was a great hero, a bodyguard with a past. He's intense, handsome and driven, and the love scene during the storm was the hottest I've ever read. I recommend this series. Start with JUST THE WAY YOU ARE, then ALMOST LIKE BEING IN LOVE, then CLOSE TO YOU.
Disappointing and Curious Theology.......2005-06-01
Despite the Biblical injunction, "Vengence is mine," I don't believe I have ever heard of a revenge story that includes God and the hearafter as part of the regenge motif. Not the God of grace, either.
I suppose I should get used to the return of the angry God shooting hellfire and brimstone so attractive to politicians these days.
Being stalked..........2005-04-20
Kate Montgomery takes a job in Austin, and is terrorized by a stalker. A powerful figure is manipulating her behind the scenes. And her handsome new bodyguard, Teague Ramos, is turning her life upside down, both professionally and personally.

Quite a disappointment.......2005-04-17
To be honest, I didn't even realize this book was related to the previous two, until I was about half way through. It is not written at the skill level that Ms. Dodd's earlier books were. I found the writing to be trite. Here's an example:
'She opened the door and walked into his home. She looked up at him.
He looked down at her.'
This was a scene of 'high drama'. It kept getting worse! I had a hard time reading the book because my eyes kept rolling!
In previous books, you would feel what the heroine was feeling, without word by word descriptions of what she is feeling!
Don't waste your money.
And this, from someone who loves all Christina Dodd's previous books!
Excellent Read .......2005-04-06
I liked knowing who the real psychotic villian was before the time that the book characters discover this-Put a new and different twist to these types of books. I really liked the ending where it was not super-sappy, but realistic. Kate never turns away from her adoptive mother-nor should she. The siblings were, in essence, strangers to her. It was a good reunion. The "heat" was really good. The suspense good. Read this in less than 2 days - But, now, what about Gabriel?

Going back to work after having a baby? You don't have to wean your little one. In Nursing Mother, Working Mother: The Essential Guide for Breastfeeding and Staying Close to Your Baby After You Return to Work, Gale Pryor has written a nuts-and-bolts guide for nursing and working at the same time. Pryor breast-fed each of her two children while working full-time outside the home, and her experience and voice of reassurance informs this book. She makes a strong case for breast-feeding: not only is it good for your baby, but many working women find that it is the easiest way to care for their child, and for themselves. Early chapters cover breast-feeding basics. Later chapters focus on preparing to go back to work, instructions on pumping (equipment and positioning), how to manage life at home and at work, and how to cope if you "fall apart" when your baby is six months old (common among new mothers who work outside the home). The book describes a typical day of pumping and nursing for babies of various ages, how to combine nursing and formula feeding, and how to stop leaking breasts (discreetly press on your nipples with the back of your forearms or with your elbows). Appendices include a list of resources for nursing, working mothers and a sample proposal for pumping space.

Unique and Valuable Resources for Working Mothers.......2007-05-16
This book was such a help to me when I was trying to figure out during my maternity leave how I would be able to go back to work full time and continue nursing. My daughter is now nearly two and I am still nursing her. I have returned to this book numerous times for support and information. There are not enough good resources out there for mothers who work full time and want to maintain a close, nurturing relationship with their child. Of course, with any book you read there will be things you don't agree with and I would agree that the schedules provided for how often you will need to pump and nurse are not going to be accurate for every woman, but overall this book provides extremely valuable information and support.
Excellent book for mothers who want to breastfeed properly.......2007-05-15
I tried breastfeeding on my own (not knowing anything about it) with my first son and was not very successful. Prior to the birth of my second son, I read this book and was able to breastfeed my second son for an entire year. The book gives solutions that actually work when you need to increase your milk supply. I've bought this book for 3 mothers and they've learned from this book too.
Must read.......2007-01-08
This book is a must read for any working nursing moms, even if you are working part time, or from home. I read it cover to cover in just a short time during the baby's naps and found it very useful, motivating, and supportive. Great book.

Finally!-- a nursing guide with one foot in the real world.......2006-02-27
With an adopted 10-month old at home, my first pregnancy turned out to be twins. I loved my 40+ hour management level job and did not want to leave. I did not think nursing was an option, and quite frankly wasn't that interested in it anyway. This book changed my mind. It is down-to-earth and gave me the grounding I needed to think creatively and yet realistically about what I needed and what my children needed from me. I ended up nursing my twins almost exclusively for 2.5 years. Best decision I've ever made. I highly recommend this book and purchase it for every pregnant mom I know who inquires about nursing and managing a challenging work-filled life.
Book Description
The depth of our relationship with God is not dependent on his pursuit of us, but on our pursuit of him and our willingness to be obedient to his Word. He says, 'Seek me and you will find me.' But so many of us fail to do so because we don't know how to begin. Until now. Bestselling author and prominent minister Joyce Meyer has compiled fascinating examples from the Bible and her own personal experiences to show how anyone can achieve a deeper personal relationship with God-that will last a lifetime.

Knowing God Intimately: Being close to him as you want to be!.......2006-10-18
This is the second book I've read written by Joyce Meyers. As a believer -Christian, I was inspired and learn to become closer to God intimately. Joyce Meyers (author) has a gift to bring to her audience and readers, real life issues to surface spiritally for every day people, living every day type of lives, especially those who are believers(Christians). However, I found this book upon reading taking me at a pace alot faster than I would like to have travelled upon reading. This book offers no fluff or contentious reading in the sense of making one feel guilty for not being as close to God as one should be. The book simply teaches you how to be closer to the true living God, if you are a believer or on the thrust of becoming a believer or a luke-warm Christian. Joyce Meyers laids it out in grass-roots terms with scriptures noted as such to back her writings. An excellent book for believers, or luke warm Christians, or those who are on the border line and not sure how to be or get close to the TRUE living God intimately. I suggest the purchase of this book, I'm certain your life will not be the same. God Bless!

Every little bit helps.......2005-11-17
I've read several of Joyce's books, and I find them as a rule inspired, candid, and insightful. I'm reading a short one now on rejection that has some very powerful messages. All this to say that while this particular review is going to be a little rough I have enjoyed and been edified by everything else I've read by her. She is scriptural and positive without overdoing it, at least in her books, on what some call "Name it, claim it, frame it"- or Word of Faith.
This particular book seems mislabeled- it would probably be more aptly titled something relating to the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. A very large part of the book encourages people to seek God for this gift as the way to intimacy and power with God. Since most of her readers are probably already charismatic/pentecostal they've already taken this foundational step and much of the book is not a direct benefit to them. For a new believer or someone not baptized in the Spirit I'd recommend it, otherwise there are plenty of other books out there, some by Joyce herself, that are probably going to be more beneficial to the reader trying to get from
point A to point B.
help developing a heart toward God.......2005-08-04
Personally, I didn't get into the details she discusses, but it was a great help motivating me to spend more time with the Lord.
Another great book by Joyce Meyer!.......2004-10-02
Joyce Meyer is, in my view, the most inspired and relevant Christian author alive today. I have read four of her books so far, and I consider each very rewarding, and potentially life-changing. This book, like Joyce's other books, accomplishes exactly what the title suggests. If you want to truly know how to walk closely with God, and live a rich Christian life, read this or any one of Joyce's books. I have also enjoyed "How to Hear from God", "Seven Things That Steal Your Joy" and "In Pursuit of Patience", all of which are available on Amazon. Joyce, if you are reading this, may God bless you, for you have been a blessing from God for me.

"...Sell Like a Madman" revisited.......2001-02-07
I read Ralph Roberts' previous book, "Walk Like a Giant, Sell Like A Madman" prior to reading this one. I found the information much the same, but organized differently.
Taken on a week-by-week basis as Mr. Roberts recommends, it could be a useful guide for your business. It's a basic reminder to us that it's the little things that count with our existing and future customers.
It's the little things that count........2000-11-30
I sold Real Estate in the Detroit Metro area back in 1978, it was a tough market back then, left Real Estate for an Engineering position after two years. I have worked for this company that follows every business fad that comes along. Seven years ago we re-engineered and we Engineers had to be jacks and/or jills of all professions (Marketing, Accounting, Engineering, Administration etc....). At first many of us were scared and afraid to sell or market anything. It had been 20 years since I sold Real Estate but I looked at my old selling manuals and nothing seemed to help. I read about Ralph Roberts in a local paper here in Macomb County and went right to his office and purchased his book. This book has helped me sell over a Million dollars worth of Product and I am the No. # 1 Salesperson for our Company. This book is not only about about selling Real Estate but about preparing and being mentally ready to make sales, I've fallen in love with selling again. Thank You Ralph - Someday I would like to meet you and buy your lunch.
Great Reminder!.......2000-08-03
Although this information can be fairly obvious - it is often overlooked. This quick and easy reference can be thumbed through in order to gain new a new approach regularly. Doing the same thing day in and day out makes you very regimeneted but this book helps the creative juices to flow.
not helpful to me.......2000-04-28
I'm a new agent and I don't think this book is very helpful. The information in it is pretty obvious and not specific enough to help me. I think the book is a waste of money.
Good Book.......2000-01-26
Good book. I had alread read Sell like a madman by same author and was concerned that this would cover the same info. It had new info and was very easy to read. With 52 chapters I'm planning on reviewing 1 chapter in each of my weekly sales meetings for a year.
Book Description
Award-winning author Kathryn Shay delivers a powerful novel about two people whose undeniable passion for each other pushes them to take the chances of a lifetime.
Through his sister, the Second Lady of the United States, photographer Aidan O'Neil meets Secret Service Agent C.J. Ludzecky, and embarks on a risky romance with her that could destroy their separate dreams-or make them all come true.
Customer Reviews:
Not as good as her others.......2007-09-14
I have read all 3 of Shay's firefighter series. I read Someone to Believe In (the 1st in this series) and then read Promises to keep to get a background on Luke and Cat. I liked all of those books a lot. I would have liked this one except for the main characters and their lack of chemistry. There wasn't much character development of Cat in Promises, but Luke was such a great character and his family, as a whole, was interesting to read about. Cat in Close To You was a major disappointment for me. She came off as a cold B^&*@. I wish there would have been more development of her, showing her with her family more and how she was before she turned cold and unlikeable. I might have understood her stand-offishness better. Her constant rejection of Aidan and constant putting her job 1st was a turn-off. I truly could not see what he would see in her. Which brings me to Aidan. I really liked him in Someone to Believe In. He was so charming. In this one, he was pathetic. Chasing after Cat, when she kept rejecting him, lowered my respect and adoration of his character for me. I don't know why his brothers kept urging him to pursue her when she made it clear she didn't want any relationship with him. He's a good guy and not young - 40 years old! I was disappointed in his character when he turned into a sap. The girl says no repeatedly, he should go with that. Their relationship was only based on sex anyway. There was no build up of their relationship beyond that. It made it hard for me to believe in them as a couple. Aidan deserved a better match for him.
On the positive side, the story itself was good. Suspenseful and emotional concerning Bailey and the VP (sorry forgot his name), and Tim the secret service agent.
All and all, not bad, just not as good as I had hoped, since I was so looking forward to Aidan's story.
Second in the O'Neil clan saga.......2007-03-10
Aidan feels guilty that his decision to tell his dad he's leaving the family pub to pursue a career as a photographer coincided with dad's untimely heart attack. At the hospital, he finds himself attracted to CJ, a member of his sister's security detail, and soon has the opportunity to get to now her better when sister Bailey (and wife of the VP) decides to have the family stay at the VP retreat in the country.
CJ would rather eat lead than succumb to the charms of Aidan. Despite proving her ability, many jealous colleagues question how she got such a plumb assignment, between an alleged affair and her brother being a hot shot secret service agent too, the odds are stacked against her. But never underestimate the charms of one of the O'Neil clan, as Aidan has her singing a different tune. But CJ knows that ultimately, a man like Aidan will have a problem with a woman who took an oath to safeguard her charge. Will the two be able to find middle ground? When the safety of the second family is suddenly thrust into the forefront, they just might get their answer.
Fans of Shay's O'Neil series (as well as "Promises to Keep" which features CJ's brother Luke) will find that this is not only an old fashioned romance (and a little uneven at times), but more a heartwarming story about the bonds of friendship and family. No one writes family better than Shay. Featuring an extended cast of the O'Neil and Ludzecky clans, additional intrigue with VP Clay and Bailey, great dialogue including Irish and Polish terms of endearment that you can actually imagine the families uttering, it's a good continuation of the series. Next on Shay's agenda is a story for widowed brother Liam... I hope we don't have to wait long!
Okay, but Could Have Been Better.......2007-03-09
This book had a great premise, but it felt as if it was about 50 or 75 pages too long; too much waffling between the Secret Service Agent Cat and Second Lady's brother Aidan. Yes, it's tough to love someone in such a dangerous profession, but if you let them go then you worry and have no relationship with them at all. AND you have to imagine them with someone else, having kids with that person and so on.
Few writers would earn 4 stars from me with these criticisms, but Ms. Shay is such an excellent writer. No one can create families with sibling relationships so true-to-life: funny, sweet, petty spats, taking criticism from them that you wouldn't take from anyone else. I liked the Second Lady and Vice President so much I plan to go back and read that book.
Aidan's indecision and moping around about Cat had me impatient with him, just as his brothers were. As Liam said, "My mate DIED. If I could get back just one hour with Kitty I would" or words to that effect. Life is short, so go for it already, Aidan!
Cat's and brother Luke's Polish heritage and use of that language for endearments was charming. It reminded me of Nora Roberts' Stanislavski siblings. By the way, those were Intimate Moments: Luring a Lady, Convincing Alex, and so on, in case you're interested.
I look forward to books about Aidan and Bailey's siblings as well as Cat's sisters. The sexual tension between Cat and Aidan is well done, but I just didn't enjoy this book as much as previous Shay stories.
And because Cat was bound to her duty as a Secret Service agent and protecting her reputation, there weren't as many love scenes as Shay usually includes. Understandable, but just a warning for those who long for that connection between the lead characters. Her fire fighter books, "Nothing More To Lose" and "After the Fire" are both, excuse the pun, HOT. Buy "Close to You" used. I'll trade mine in for Clay and Bailey's story, or Cat's brother Luke's story.
delightful contemporary romance .......2007-02-07
Secret Service Agent C.J. Ludzecky is assigned to protect the wife and children of the Vice President. When the father of the Second Lady has a heart attack, she heads to the family lake house to be there for him. C.J. is one of the agents sent to escort and protect Bailey O'Neil whose spouse VP Clay Wainwright accompanies his wife and children to see his in-laws.
C.J. finds s three of Bailey's brothers and their mom friendly and nice. The fourth sibling Aidan is another story altogether as C.J. is attracted to him and believes he wants her too. However, as the father of the Second lady recovers from Myocardial infarction as best he can, C.J. knows she must not let her heart get in the way of her mission, as terrorist groups would love to kill Bailey or any family member for that matter; whereas Aidan wants her as much and is not concerned about ruthless killers at first.
CLOSE TO YOU, the sequel to SOMEONE TO BELIEVE IN (Clay and Bailey's romance when he was a senator) is a delightful contemporary romance with a late suspense caused by a kidnapping attempt. The story line is character driven as the O'Neil clan comes home to insure Pop is okay with the siblings all having differing personalities (Bailey's nicknames of her brothers seem so apropos). The lead couple is a delightful pairing as she takes her job seriously while he takes her seriously. Readers will enjoy Kathryn Shay's appealing tale wondering whether C.J. will call in that marker she earned.

Thelma Wells has inspired many as a much-sought-after speaker for the Women of Faith. She also touches many in her teachings of prayer and discovery of God. In "God is Not Through with Me Yet" Thelma shares her stories of inspiration from her own life, and the lives she has touched along the way.
"God is Not Through with Me Yet" is broken into three sections. Part I is filled with stories of Thelma's life, her struggles, her songs, and her journey in guiding people to the gift of prayer.
Part II is dedicated to the great I AM. It is formatted as a Bible study, filled with scripture and journal activities designed to help the reader discover how I AM can change lives, heal pain, be the Provider, and the Banner.
Part III is dedicated to scripture and lessons "for your reflection." These mini-sermons are broken into sections to help guide the reader to the subject matter they wish to focus upon.
"God is Not Through with Me Yet" serves in many ways. Thelma's stories are an inspiration, her teachings allow the reader to better connect through prayer, and her chosen scriptures provide a foundation for reflection. What the book is lacking is Thelma's strong presence, touching voice, and general glow of energy. "God is Not Through with Me Yet" is a quick glimpse into Thelma's life, as well as a toolkit to be taken off the shelf again and again.
Great Book; Greater Person.......2007-02-26
This lovely, hardcover book is only a sneak peek at a lovely woman who authored it. God Is Not Through With Me Yet is an easy, candid, inspiring read. It's almost as if Thelma is sitting across the table chatting with you, gently sharing her life lessons.
Often people pray for help, insight, healing, etc., One part of this book reveals some of the hindrances to prayer so that you can get God's answers.
I had the privilege of meeting Thelma in Indiana and she's a warm, welcoming, spiritually-dynamic lady.
Her book would make a good read or gift of encouragement to anyone who is going through tough times and needs to see the good that come out of bad.

Inspiration Plus.......2007-02-22
Thelma Wells came from one of the worst situations I could imagine. Born to a partially paralyzed mother, her great-grandparents raised her. On the rare occasions she went to see her grandparents, her grandmother would lock her in the closet for hours. Thelma learned early on that the only way to survive that dark, scary closet is to sing. And sing she did.
Thelma takes what she has learned from these less-than-ideal circumstances, and shares them with us in God Is Not Through With Me Yet. There are three parts to this book:
Part 1: I Can ...
Part 2: Because I Know I AM
Part 3: For Your Reflection.
In here, we learn:
-- Experience is an Able Teacher
-- He Prepares, and He Provides
-- A Path to Humility
-- I AM is Your Healer
-- I AM is your Provider
-- Obedience Really is Better
-- Plus much more.
In sharing with true-life stories, Thelma Wells teaches us as well as encourages us in our Christian walk. This book which will educate them in how to get the most out of their walk with Christ. Pick up God Is Not Through With Me Yet.

Wow -- what a great handbook to help in difficult times. Nobody wants to think about the subject, but at some point we all have to face planning a funeral for a loved one. It's well-written and informative. I highly recommend it.
Well written and very informative.......2004-02-06
V.K. Thornton made a difficult subject easy to read about. Excellent book to have as your parents get older and as life goes on. A good book.

Not worth the money.......2006-09-01
I agree with other reviews who have suggested that the author treats deployment like business trips. Several of the ideas to keep close during separations would work only if the separation were short term, like two months or shorter. I've never been through a two month deployment, and I'm willing to bet that when compared to six month and year long deployments, military families have little problems dealing with such a short separation period.
In addition, I found this book to be extremely geared towards children. I do not have children and I doubt that my husband would want to recieve silly art projects from me while overseas. So if you do have children, I would imagine this would be a great resource for creative art projects to show Mom or Dad how much they are missed.
In all I found this book to be incredibly disappointing and I would not recommend it to families who are looking for suggestions on how to stay close during normal military deployments or separations.
not the best.......2005-11-07
i love to read any thing about a military family, just to see how we all deal with it was not like this till hubby went to iraq. Now this was one of the 1st i read and well it was ok then now i have read so many I can tell you this is ok there are better out there
A great tool for a military wife's tool belt!!!.......2005-09-26
I have been a military wife for 19 years and have endured many separations, all with hesitation and sadness. I was never given any tools to deal with this lifestyle. My only regret is that I didn't have this book from the beginning. This author is an advocate of military families and has stepped up to the plate to fill a void, which is offering help with a lifestyle most people never really understand. Even though she is not a military wife herself she has done her part by taking the time to listen to and get to know the hearts of the military wives and families across our country who have a unique set of challenges. When my husband served in Afghanistan for eight months I still did not have this book. Next deployment will be a different experience thanks to this author's gathering of ideas from the wives and families of our brave soldiers who live with fear and separation from a loved one on a regular basis. Awesome tool!!
tips and examples for bearing TDY.......2005-08-15
This book is a wealth of ideas for the spouse who is not immersed in, or just not able to be involved in service community because of where home is located etc-so serves to lighten the burden of being a service spouse who does not have a lot of peer support. I found it interesting even as the parent of a serviceman--very good job on this one!
Trivializing and unoriginal.......2005-05-10
When I bought this book, I was misled into thinking it was a book for military families. The author has never been in a military family and is not a military wife. She often compares deployment to her son going away to college. The ideas she gives are unoriginal and some downright idiotic (i.e. buy a sticker supporting your military branch for your car, then you'll feel close to your service member). I was extremely disappointed and angered that this was a book penned to military families when there are very little ideas addressing deployments specifically, rather just separations like business trips.
Book Description
"
If God is the all-consuming, all-powerful, all-knowing, loving and infinite Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer of this universe, then nothing else we can do matters quite as much as getting to know Him and know Him well!"
C'mon now! Enough of spoon-fed spirituality and Sunday-morning religion that lasts until church lets out. It's time to get serious--to get deep into God's Word and start exploring your most important relationship for yourself. You won't have to do it by yourself, though. Author Tony Evans, one of America's most passionate and insightful preachers, will join you every day to explore the great news of who God is--and who you are in Him--through the lively daily devotionals in this book.
Covering a different topic every four weeks, Evans speaks to all Christians--men, women, singles, couples and parents--about the essentials for a growing faith. And about your greatest pursuit in life: getting to know God--and know Him well.
Drawing deeply from Scripture, Evans focuses on the most important aspects of the faith--such as the attributes of God, discipleship, prayer, the role of the Holy Spirit--and, in his direct, refreshing, down-to-earth style, shows how developing your knowledge of God affects everything about you. Your marriage. Your family life. Your friendships. Your purity and integrity. Your view of money and possessions. And your commitment to helping heal society's ills.
So c'mon! Get serious! And get to know your Creator in a way that really matters. In a way that will change how you view your faith, yourself, your world--and Him.

Great daily devotion.......2005-09-13
This book consists of in-depth devotions for each day of the week. It's a little different then most daily devotions because it forces the reader to take a deep look at the meaning of the scripture being reviewed for that day. There is a devotion for each day on Mon-Fri and then there is a review of the week's devotions/scriptures on Sat-Sun.
If you are wanting to gain a more intimate understanding of God's Word..this book is for you.
Well written, thought provoking and hard hitting..........2002-11-22
Working in ministry myself, I have stacks of devotional materials that don't keep my interest. They don't have any fresh, interesting or inspiring moments while reading, rather use the same passages and parables. That's not the case with Tony Evans' book. I ordered it about a year ago in hopes to find a challenging devotional book that would deal with tough questions, as well as be a daily read for me.
I've used this book many times when meeting with collegues, and each time someone asks for the title & author to order it themselves. The format is basic and non-threatening for new believers, as well as educational for life-long Christians...I can't recommend it enough. His "Thoughts for the day" are great to reflect upon. Buy the book if you're wanting a daily lesson or reminder of where, why and how God is love.
Great book!.......2001-02-18
This book will keep you focused. It only takes a few minutes a day, and the message is powerful! Tony Evans has you read a passage from the bible, then he explains the lesson it contains. Each day one page, and is based on a 5-day week, with a page of 'reflection' for the weekend. He uses today's language and is very easy to understand. I highly recommend it for anyone who is trying to digest the true word of Jesus.
Tired of failing to have time for God? Get this book........1999-06-14
For years and years I have been told quiet times with God are absolutely essential to walking with Christ. I could never get into a pattern of doing this. This book is the difference. Dr Evans has a year of growing a walk laid out so well, that now it is my routine. He has a beautiful way of zinging you so that you really reflect all day. A fabulous devotion book. I wish more were this plain spoken
Excellent devotional book !.......1998-12-15
Dr. Evans doesn't play around in these devotionals. He takes God very serious and so should we. This book is very time friendly without trivializing your time with God.

What works? Where is that?.......2006-05-25
If you want plenty of sarcastic rhetoric, this is it. Where are all the GOOD examples? Sure, I want to know what doesn't work too, but it could be even better if he shared more of what does work!
Speak English Herschell..........2002-11-03
I agree with Rush.
This book does have a very useful list of headlines, opening sentences, and a knowledgeable section on envelope copy with illustrations...
..but the guy explains these things in such a bizarre vernacular and egotistical vibe that it was hard for me to feel any sort of enthusiasm as I was learning (or trying to). Maybe Lewis should've been a politician.
If you want a sales letter book, I fully recommend Dan Kennedy's 'The Ultimate Sales Letter'. It's step by step, easily understandable, fun to read and teaches you everything Lewis does but much more. Your excitement will skyrocket. Kennedy's your Man.
Not what it could be!.......2002-07-01
I won't presume to be critical of such a great copywriter as the author. But my reason for giving the book only 3 stars instead of five is because the entire book could have been so much more.
The latter half of the book are "100 ways to start a sales letter". It ought to be a gold mine. It IS of value, but again, in nearly all of the illustrated "ways", Lewis illustrates how people foul them up; not in how they are used successfully.
The same is true for the first part of the book. He helpfully offers actual samples of sales letters that he has received but spends most of his time mocking them and showing what's wrong. Certainly many of them deserve criticism but I wonder how much better the book would have been if Lewis had given examples of GOOD copy.
I recommend the book. I was just disappointed that it continually focused on the negative instead of helping the reader with GOOD copy.

The Bible for any direct mail writer.......2000-08-19
Herschell Gordon Lewis -- one of the world's leading authorities on writing copy that sells -- has summed up the tricks of the trade learned through years of experience in this delightful, extremely useful book. I find myself referring to his book again and again when I'm stuck on finding the just the right opening for a direct mail letter. Lewis uses real-life examples of direct mail copy throughout the book, showing readers where it went wrong and how it could have been more effective. (After reading his book, you'll find yourself scrutinizing every piece of junk mail you receive, wondering what Lewis would have to say about it!) Best of all, Lewis's keen wit makes the book fun to read. I highly recommend it to anyone who writes direct mail.
