This is a good book for discovering the history of Singing Bowls, how they work and how to choose one. It also has a section on Tingshaws, Bell and Dorje. If your looking for a book on how to use them for healing then you should get the book "Singing Bowl Exercises for Personal harmony" by Anneke Huyser

This book is good for people who doesn't know anything about singing bowls, and want to know what is it all about. However, if you are trying to get some basic skill for using singing bowls, This book provide too little infomation about this.
The Lore of the Bells helps explain the Lure of the Bells.......2001-07-10
As a teacher of yoga and meditation since 1972, I first ran across these sensational Tibetan Bells (Singing Bowls) around 1985. Since then I have acquired nearly a dozen well-tuned bowls, and use them extensively in my own personal meditations, in leading group meditations, and to aid in spiritual healing.
Having collected legend, facts, and lore on these bells for many years, I was excited to find so much of what I had already learned-- plus a whole lot more-- was finally collected in one convenient and well-ordered form.
Ms Jansen's book has been a great aid in helping me to better understand both the physics and the spirituality behind the phenomenal effects that my clients and I have experienced from playing these bells. I highly recommend it to anybody who may be thinking of purchasing a Tibetan Bell, as well as to anybody who already owns one or more of these devices and wants to maximize their experience of the bowls.
THE Reference.......2000-09-17
As the new millennium unfolds, I think that this phenomenon (the influnence of sound on our sense of tranquility) is going to play a progressively more important role. When/if that happens, perhaps someone will write a "better" work on this subject. Frankly, I tend to doubt it. 1.2 million Tibetans who MAY have known the answers have so far been slaughtered by the Chinese, and the end is nowhere yet in sight. Of those who still remain, none seems able (or willing) to comment. In another generation, no one who knows the truth may survive.
I have several bowls, the largest of which is slightly in excess of 14". This bowl is capable of producing (in my consciousness, at least) the low C pedal of an organ. Since the organ pipe required to produce that tone is over 30 FEET long, as a mathematician I understand that this is physically impossible. In this book, Ms Jansen explains to you why it IS spiritually possible.
very informative handbook for beginers.......1999-10-24
The book informs people of the need in Western society to use these Bowls for Meditation & cleansing the Body & the Soul in order to release & open the door to further spiritual development. ( I Teach Meditation useing these Bowls )

Healing Essence was highly touted and I purachased it; however, I had a feeling that it was missing something - or I was. Now with this book, Dr. Gaynor, like Chopra, seems to be finding the niche of his essence, and he give the reader the right to find their's. That is HEALING! As a nurse, it was amazing what a sachet of dried lavender attached to a pillow,& backrub would do, or a little music box I carried in my pocket to help neuro patients calm down. That was the 60s. This book shows the expanse of sound, and that one's body responds to that which it particularly needs. Having had chemo, the horrors of the traditional rows of chairs and people 'yapping,' vs what privacy and sound may have done for me brings tears. Just recently, with a new water 'garden,' I placed it in the living room - discomfort overcame me. It took a week to realize I wanted it in my office near to me. I do not work such long spells any longer. I integrate sounds, and relax! There are so many more options I've yet to try thanks to Dr. Gaynor. And, so many practices I'm going to try to change here in Austin, Texas!

Sounds of Healing is an extraordinary publication. Like a journey within a journey, it is an odyssey along the path of spiritual wisdom, healing and self fulfillment. Like a compass, it directs as it informs-it encourages the reader to meander throughout its pages, enjoying the self direction and spontaneous discovery that are the essence of the spiritual quest. The book together with the Sounds of Healing compact disk moved me towards celestial realms that I have never before experienced.
A brilliant and beautiful book........1999-06-13
This is a brilliant and beautiful book superbly written with elegance and gracefulness. It is the most powerful and illuminating source of the role that sound can play in the healing process that I have ever read. Dr. Gaynor has an outstanding grasp of various sounds, techniques, and terms-the "grammatical" elements that make you fluent in the "language" of sound. But he goes far beyond that. He understands and transmits an unbelievable amount of expressive, historical, and even philosophical information. In keeping with that insight, he illuminates the varying circumstances and contexts that have shaped sound down thru the ages. He guides us thru the sounds that are capable of speaking to and from the human soul, and tells us something central about the human condition in each of us. This is a dazzling book which tells us not only about our distant past but also about how that past is able to shape our present and our future.

I have a lot, if not most of tibetan bell/bowls CDs. This artist is absolutely the most talented. I play Tibetan bowls myself and cannot even come close to duplicating what Tillman can do. I have bought every CD of his I can locate. His work definetly puts the listner in a deep altered state. I know there are several other ones that are available, that Amazon does not carry. I found on the website. If your into meditation or sleep or stress relief..this may be a great find.
Deeply satisfying to the soul.......2004-04-20
This is such a wonderful album. I first ordered it from my library, but decided to buy a copy because I listened to it almost daily in Shavasana, at the end of my yoga practice. It is healing, soothing, and to my taste, more appealing than the Xumatra CD.
Simply the best singing bowl musician........2002-10-17
Rainer Tillman creates the most amazing music. The songs are deeply soothing (not for driving), excellent for meditation or relaxation. I don't know how this secret continues to be kept. The 'Seven Metals: Singing Bowls of Tibet', a best seller on new age charts, comes close, but both of Rainer's 'Sounds of the Planets' CD's are better. I highly recommend them.

Everything this artist does is excellent, this CD being no exception. I listen to his techinques when I play my own bowls but cannot duplicate his sound. He is the Mozart of tibetan bowl playing.

Dutch singing bowl and mandala expert Anneke Huyser has written a useful and inspirational compendium on brass Himalayan singing bowls. While noting that singing bowl healing research is in its infancy, she provides the information one needs to begin collecting and using these exotic musical meditation aids for personal harmony. Beginning with the simple act of listening, Huyser guides the reader through 12 exercises to find ones own basic tone and choose a bowl to match that frequency. Identifying planet and chakra tones, combining tonal therapy with color therapy, and giving a singing bowl sound massage are also covered. Clearly a spiritual seeker, her personal philosophies concerning the use of the bowls make this book a good value for anyone interested in inner growth. Whether or not one decides to buy a singing bowl after reading this photo- and poem-graced treatise is of secondary importance. --P. Randall Cohan

If you have never used singing bowls before and haven't a clue where to start, this book is for you and can provide useful and clear information to get you going. If you are looking for more detailed information on this instrument's history and uses, without new-agey interpretations, there may be other places to look.

This book discusses how sound effects your body. And shows you to use the sound from Singing Bowls for healing. It also discuses their makeup and how each metal is supposed to affect a person. My most informative Singing Bowl book so far.
more than sounds.......2001-09-19
This is one of the few singing bowls' books I know, the information in it, is clear, even for "beginners".
The practice and explanations on how to play the bowls and their repercutions in our mind and body are well explained.
It has several pictures of diferents singing bowl sizes, their tones for healing and harmonize, the mind, body and "spirit".
I recomend it as much as other good book written by Eva Judy Jansen.

This is the only CD with Tibetan Singing bowls that I own and I like it though not crazy about it. It does have some good sounds in it that can be used for deep meditation. The quality is also pretty good. Overall, a purchase worth your money.
