Book Description

IS EVERYTHING CONNECTED?

Can we sense what's happening to loved ones thousands of miles away? Why are we sometimes certain of a caller's identity the instant the phone rings? Do intuitive hunches contain information about future events? Is it possible to perceive without the use of the ordinary senses?

Many people believe that such "psychic phenomena" are rare talents or divine gifts. Others don't believe they exist at all. But the latest scientific research shows that these phenomena are both real and widespread, and are an unavoidable consequence of the interconnected, entangled physical reality we live in.

Albert Einstein called entanglement "spooky action at a distance" -- the way two objects remain connected through time and space, without communicating in any conventional way, long after their initial interaction has taken place. Could a similar entanglement of minds explain our apparent psychic abilities? Dean Radin, senior scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, believes it might.

In this illuminating book, Radin shows how we know that psychic phenomena such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and psychokinesis are real, based on scientific evidence from thousands of controlled lab tests. Radin surveys the origins of this research and explores, among many topics, the collective premonitions of 9/11. He reveals the physical reality behind our uncanny telepathic experiences and intuitive hunches, and he debunks the skeptical myths surrounding them. Entangled Minds sets the stage for a rational, scientific understanding of psychic experience.

4 out of 5 stars Tour D'Force in the science for PSI........2007-08-28

I found this a very good read, albiet a little "Heady" on statistics it was a fascinating read. I was never aware of the lengthy studies that have been done on PSI, and the continued studies showing it exists. This book made me aware of what I already knew existed, and wondered if science was either ignorant or complacent in ignoring it. Through this book, I discovered they were both.

I firmly believe there is a global consciousness, and definitely believe in telepathy as I use it often with people I am entangled with. This book just affirms what I already know, stacks up the evidence in favor of PSI, and shows that science really needs a wake up call to reality.

5 out of 5 stars Entanglement & Synchronicity.......2007-08-23

This is an amazing book. I was truly impressed with all of the collected historical data and case studies which the author of the book presented. He also presented a lot of statistical data and examples in regards to the odds of whether events are to be rejected or accepted. This is definitely first class research in and by itself!! I first heard about this book online at a different website and thought about getting it here. Lo and behold, when I got to work later that day, a co-worker gave me her copy of this book!! Now, is this simply coincidence, synchronicity, entanglement or the universe playing "trick or treat" with me?? Whatever your beliefs are in regards to psi and psychic abilities, I believe you'll be both pleasantly educated and entertained with this book.

3 out of 5 stars Courage.......2007-05-20

"Those who are frightened of the darkness often refuse to look, and they don't want anyone else to look either."
Look a little bit closer and you will find that there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of. You will need courage but since that is an emotion it is freely available to all.

5 out of 5 stars Jerry's.......2007-05-14

If you would like to know if there is any science behind those natural born psychics who seem to do things that most of us can't do, then this is a must read. For a scientist to dedicate much of his life to paranatural phenomena, should be recognized as credible. With a background in physics and technology, I highly recommend this book for all but the hard core skeptics who would never change their mind even if they experience such things themselves.

1 out of 5 stars Another sign of the lack of coming to terms with the modern world.......2007-04-15

There is nothing remotely resembling "strong" evidence, theoretical or empirical, for quantum effects at this scale. This book is further evidence of the lack of mathematical and scientific education in America today. I suggest rather than wasting time with implausible leaps of pseudoscientific fantasy spun in this book, readers spend more time learning some mathematics and statistics, and get real.

    Book Description

In the quantum world, a particle can behave like a wave and accordingly seems to be in two places at the same time. This of course is contradictory to our daily experiences with classical particles. How then should this be understood? What happens in the transitional area between the classical world and quantum mechanics? The present book answers exciting questions like these in a way that is easy to follow and to understand and is shows that the link between these two worlds will have concrete and applied effects on our daily life in the near future. It will, for example, improve and change the conventional methods of information processing. With the help of quantum cryptography, it will be possible to communicate tap-proof. Using quantum computers we will be able to solve highly complicated problems in a very short time.

Special ops agent Dillon Gavin is taking a break from his demanding schedule when his life takes an unexpected-and complicated-turn. Her name is Jordan Kane, a beautiful artist. Legally blind, she paints with her inner eye-which affords her an uncanny, and sometimes breathtaking, clairvoyance. What she sees in Dillon-comfortable in an unpredictable world of intrigue, espionage, and brute violence-is the kind of man that an artistic, gentle soul like Jordan never experienced before. Her sixth sense tells her that Dillon wants her. Her common sense says stay away. But from his first sensuous touch in the dark comes an irresistible urge that dares to take Jordan where's she's never gone before.

This is the second book from this author that is great. She has a way of writing that makes you care for the characters. I can't wait for the next book from this author. The paranormal elements only serve to enhance the entire novel. It's like an alternate universe or a contemporary novel with elements of magic that are integrated into life. It makes me wish we had such a universe here. If you can read both novels-Entangled and Enticed.

5 out of 5 stars Romance Junkies review of Enticed.......2007-05-20

Blind artist Jordan Kane uses her psyprint abilities to create works of art. However, because of her clairvoyance, very few people realize she is blind and she likes it that way. During a showing of her art at a gallery, Jordan meets Dillon Gavin, a man she instantly recognizes as a walking, talking breathing upset to her well-ordered solitary life. While Dillon may be sin personified and sexy as hell, Jordan just doesn't want a man in her life upsetting the balance and normalcy she has created. Using her clairvoyance to see Dillon, Jordan can't deny her attraction. His job, however, causes the most distress. Violence comes off him in waves, so much so that Jordan decides that Dillon is strictly off limits. If only he would listen.

Black ops agent Dillon Gavin has been placed on vacation by his superiors with orders to rest and relax. Since his occupation takes up most of his time, he rarely indulges in simple things like sex and flings. Primed and ready for fast and easy non-committed action, Dillon has no idea that his favorite artist, Jordan Kane, is about to totally change his outlook on romance and love. Desiring Jordan like none before her, Dillon's seduction begins. It's not surprising that it almost comes to a crashing halt when she lets him in on her secret. The thought that Jordan can sense and see what he is doing and what he has done places her in unnecessary risk. Dillon knows that he should let her go - but knowing and doing are two very different things. When Jordan's nightmares are increasingly filled with vile visions of destruction and death, Dillon determines that he will do anything to keep his woman safe.

ENTICED by Kathleen Dante is, for want of a better description, simply enticing. I thought Ms. Dante wove an intriguing tale of suspense that kept me wondering at the identity of the antagonist. I treasured Dillon from the moment he met Jordan. Chivalrous from his first glance at Jordan, I thought him a most patient lover; his seduction and enticement of Jordan was one of the most romantic scenes I have ever read.

Jordan was a strong and independent heroine and I loved how she tried to talk herself out of seeing Dillon many times over but to no avail. The secondary character, Timothy, Jordan's fat feline pet, was written so realistically that most cat lovers will relate to the ball of fur's stubbornness and curiosity.

ENTICED is a must read in my book. Suspenseful, intriguing, and doused with a bit of magic, this story sated my paranormal loving heart. This second book of Kathleen Dante's En series was exactly what I was craving. ENTICED is a keeper and I look forward to future installments.

5 out of 5 stars erotic romantic suspense .......2007-03-08

Dillon Gavin misses his Black Ops partner John "Lantis" Atlantis who left the field two years ago and is now married to his "heart sister" a pregnant Keira (see ENTANGLED). He is happy for both of them and even played matchmaker between them. Currently Dillon is on an enforced official month of R&R so he goes to the Walson Galleries to see the Jordan Kane exhibit as he is a big collector of her psyprints.

When Dillon and Jordan meet, the attraction is ignitable, but though he wants to pursue it, she refuses as he scares her and her clairvoyance makes her wonder if he is a killer as she envisions a murder when she touches his gloves. He is surprised to learn she is blind as she sees better than most people with 20-20 vision and is jealous of her muse Timothy. Dillon begins his month long courtship with orchids and a mano a mano with Timothy her cat. However, as they see one another, she fears she has fallen in love with a killer while he finds the field no longer appealing, but first someone is trying to kill his beloved Jordan and she thinks it might be Dillon.

Fans of erotic romantic suspense will enjoy this enticing thriller starring likable protagonists though the audience will think of Johnny Cochran's "if the glove don't fit acquit". The story line is fast-paced as the hero wants to become the new muse of his beloved while also keeping her safe from an unknown adversary whose motive surfaces late; his dilemma is that Jordan thinks he is her killer. Kathleen Dante provides a stupendous sequel as it is Dillon's turn to come out of the cold into the heat of love.

2 out of 5 stars "Ensnared" is more like it.......2007-01-23

KidTek CEO Kiera Stevens suspects corporate espionage at her company which in addition to designing toys is a defense contractor. She confides her suspicions to her childhood pal Dillon who happens to have ties to a covert black ops group, and he enlists John "Lantis" Atlantis to go undercover as her lover to help Kiera find the culprit. But Lantis is apparently too busy helping Kiera to find something else, as they endlessly engage in sex, often at pretty inappropriate times to stretch this pretty thin story out. Oh, and he performs these magic spells in conjunction with all kinds of high-techy stuff that just make the reader shake their head and say "huh?" which culminates in their psychs getting entangled, hence the title.

Between the endless uninspired sex (I counted over 60 pages with only a page or two break between "couplings" which got boring and redundant after awhile), and the inane "magic," this story was a definite must miss. The plot took second fiddle to the sex. And if I had to read about his "staff" or her "channel" one more time... as I said, redundant. The writing was adequate, the dialogue cheesy, and the unimaginative and predictable mystery left little to be desired. Talk about a let down - the jacket made "Entangled" sound so interesting - I wish it indicated that the book contained paranormal aspects so I could've saved $10.

Why anyone would give this piece of tripe a 5-star rating is the real mystery! Wait for it at a library near you, and in the meantime read an author who can blend eroticism with an actual plot like Emma Holly or better yet Megan Hart's "Dirty."

5 out of 5 stars Get All Tangled Up In Dante's 'Entangled'.......2006-12-19

Kiera Stevens knows that kidTek, the company she inherited from her father, has been the victim of industrial espionage. This is more worrying than it might be for the ordinary company, since kidTek not only makes toys, but works hand-in-glove with governmental black ops developing black ops projects.

Kiera's friend Dillon, a black ops agent who is like a brother to her, contacts John Lantis, himself now retired from ops, to take the job. After persuading Lantis that his own magic and ops skills make him the perfect man for the job, Lantis agrees to go in and find the traitors-under the guise of being Kiera's lover.

Kathleen Dante has written a tale of industrial espionage and magic, that takes a long and pleasurable meander along the pathways that make up a growing relationship between two people intensely attracted to one another. The dynamics of the relationship form the major part of the book, though the storyline never suffers for it.

The relationship between John and Kiera is deeply erotic, and satisfyingly romantic at the same time. Kiera is a strong woman, but finds pleasure beyond her imagining as she gradually relinquishes some of her control to Lantis' confident and constant care. A highly sensual journey into the universe of two lovers who slowly become far more, the book's elements of magic and corporate greed are played out well against the backdrop of the black ops exercise set up to catch the culprits. A promised sequel is in the works to further showcase this author's smooth-as-sheer-silk voice and tale-telling talents. Highly recommended.

When John "Lantis" Atlantis is summoned by his former partner, Dillon, he knows that it must be about something important. Lantis used to be involved in the secret black ops world, to which Dillon is still tied. Now Lantis owns his own security firm, and is the best man at security magic, keeping him in high demand. But it seems there is a problem with kidTek, a toy company that has been working with the black ops through their research and development department. Someone is suspected of providing insider information to a toy competitor. It is Lantis' new job to find out who the informant is and to see if they have compromised the black ops work.

Kiera Stevens is the CEO of kidTek. Her father once ran the company, and she has recently taken it over after his death. When she learns of the information gone missing, she immediately goes to Dillon, her childhood friend, to find out what is happening and to find the spy. When she learns that she will be working closely with Lantis, Kiera has mixed feelings about it. From the first moment she hears his voice, she is enthralled with the deep sexy baritone. And finding out that the rest of him matches the voice is a complication she doesn't need right now.

In order to get on the premises and not alert the spy, Lantis must go undercover pretending to be Kiera's lover. She can only too easily imagine the pretend love affair turning into something real. When Lantis attempts a spell to upgrade the security at kidTek, using Kiera as a focus, it backfires on him and he needs to find a way to funnel the excess power. What comes next is an incredible night of passion between Lantis and Kiera, complicating matters further for them both. They can feel each other now, even when they aren't touching; connected in some way through the magic they worked together. Now they have to contend with their feelings for each other in addition to the threat of the spy, and a pushy competitor convinced he can get her to sell the company. Lantis must find a way to protect both her company and herself, before it is too late.

Entangled is a fantastic book, full of magic, mystery and incredibly hot sex! I loved how intertwined the magical aspects were; spells and magical security became a natural part of the story. Lantis and Kiera have incredible chemistry together, and were very appealing to read about. The foreplay leading up to the actual sex was mind-blowing in its intensity, and I found myself getting more and more wound up as the story progressed. The supporting characters added a nice dimension to Entangled and I would love to read some of their stories in the future. I highly recommend Entangled to any reader looking for a wonderful escape!

KidTek CEO Kiera Stevens concludes that someone from her most inner circles is selling business secrets that could ruin her and her company. She has no idea who this traitor is, as the only people with access to this top secret information are people she trusts; all have clearances since the company provides service to the military as well as selling children's toys. However, to uncover the treacherous mole who sold her out, she needs her own undercover agent.

Kiera hires security expert John "Lantis" Atlantis to "join" the company in order to out the industrial spy. However to have full access they agree to pretend to be lovers, but Lantis knows it must look real. He uses his psychic abilities to learn her inner most desires, playing on her submissive fantasies. However, neither he nor his client expected the real sparks that ignite between them. Still the first necessity is to expose the traitor who is selling classified secrets then the duo can see where their attraction leads them to that goes past his spanking her.

ENTANGLED is an entertaining erotic romance with a touch of the paranormal and a reasonable amount of suspense needed to justify the couple pairing off yet also enhances the relationship between the CEO and the security guru. The story line is filled with sexual encounters between the lead couple that touch on her submissive nature (being a tough powerful CEO must be caused by reaction formation) with him proving the right amount of domination to satisfy her. Not for everyone, this is a fine spanking romantic fantasy.

5 out of 5 stars welcome addition to the paranormal genre.......2006-09-06

Kathleen Dante's first published print book is a splendid blend of intrigue, romance, and magic!

Kiera Stevens, CEO of KidTek, hires Depth Security after she suspects espionage within her company. A doll has been released by another company that utilizes the same technology as the doll just released by KidTek. KidTek is one of the companies that assists with black ops R & D, making this an issue of national security.

John Atlantis, the owner of Depth Security and previous black ops agent, agrees to assist his former partner, Dillon. Lantis specializes in security magic and he and Kiera pose as a couple while they set a trap for the thief. Lantis develops a firewall spell with another spell imbedded in it to entrap the thief but his energy becomes entangled with Kiera's in the process. The couple gets hot and heavy while their trap begins to work and soon ensnares the thief, but will they survive to reveal who it is?

Kathleen Dante has written a steamy, suspenseful story that grabs the reader from the very introduction of the story! She creatively uses magic in her story without relying on it too heavily and thus creates an aura of believability. The attraction between Lantis and Kiera is simply sizzling and Ms. Dante cleverly intertwines the romance, magic, and investigation all together so that each part of the story is very relevant to the other pieces.

Lantis and Kiera are both very strong characters, neither used to bending or giving in to another person. Both are used to their independence and so it is very interesting to watch how they handle being entangled, particularly since each loses a sense of control to the other. The sex scenes are quite spicy at times, and Ms. Dante certainly has a very fertile imagination but readers will not be offended by any of the scenes, particularly since Ms. Dane puts such an emotional impact into the relationship between Lantis and Kiera.

ENTANGLED is a very welcome addition to the paranormal books out there and should appeal to a variety of readers. Kathleen Dante demonstrates a real gift for knowing her characters and helping the reader get to know them as well. From start to finish, ENTANGLED is an enthralling story that will leave readers begging for Dillon's story as well! Well done, Ms. Dante!

4 out of 5 stars Deep inside the Cubbies.......2007-08-08

Having been a Cubs fan since the mid 1960's I was excited to read this book. I found the book both breezy and entertaining and at times very plodding and a bit dull. I really enjoyed the recaps of the seasons in the beginning of the book. Living in California I don't get a lot of the real inside stories unless I read the internet so I was reading a lot of the anecdotes for the first time.

I was especially intrigued by the stories behind Todd Hundley not really catching on with the fans. I always thought Baylor made a mistake in not starting him on that opening day.

I feel the book was at its best when it focused on the players on the field and in the clubhouse. I think too much time was devoted to Andy McPhail and Jim Hendry and the chapter about how the cubs need to be more patient at the plate while interesting was way too much in detail.
I was happy to read the chapter on Len Kasper and the other announcers.
There were way too many typos for a book of this sort. No excuse for this.
I appreciate the effort and the passion that went into writing this book.

    2 out of 5 stars A Disappointing Book.......2007-07-06

Subtitled "Inside the Cubs' Quest for October," this is a disappointing book about a disappointing team.

George Castle has served as the Cubs beat reporter for The Times of Northwest Indiana. Entangled in Ivy is less an examination of the disappointment of the Andy MacPhail era as it a autobiography of Castle's coverage of the MacPhail era and his retrospective observations. Which is by no means a bad thing, in and of itself.

Unfortunately, there is little new in this book for longtime followers of the Cubs. Castle does provide a nice overview of the problems of the MacPhail era. He writes of MacPhail's philosophy of trying to be "competitive" rather than trying to win the World Series, the lack of position player development, the lack of hitters' patience at the plate, and a too-small front office team (the Cubs have an assistant general manager -- Randy Bush -- this year for the first time since the Cubs hired MacPhail). In the process, though, Castle puts blame on minor issues. He argues that Wrigley Field is too old to have necessary amenities for the players, and the last few pages of the book are devoted to the supposed perils of day games at Wrigley.

Castle also provides some nice profiles of various Cubs' personalities, including Derrek Lee, Carlos Zambrano, Michael Barrett, and Len Kasper. You will come away from this book liking Ryan Dempster more than you do now, even if you already like him a lot.

Too much of Entangled in Ivy ends up being about Castle himself. Two of his complaints are of 1) the food spreads for the media, or lack thereof, at certain press conferences, and 2) the working conditions for the media at Wrigley Field.

Too much of the book is also consumed by quotes Castle obtained in interviews, as if the sole fact that someone significant made the quote makes it worth repeating. Sometimes the quote is insignificant or boring. Of course, some of the quotes probably save us from passages like this (p. 230):

"Both [Zambrano and Barrett] have tremendous baseball intellect, some of it as yet untapped. They'll be among the best at their craft when they can maximize their diamond knowledgeability while controlling their sometimes white-hot emotions. Both must learn as they go."

Additionally, there are some frustrating aspects of the style of this book. Castle often utilizes the staple of the sportswriter: passive voice construction. "MacPhail was questioned . . ." "Concerns were raised . . ." Etc. Who raised the concerns?; usually, it's likely the writer writing the story. It would be better for us to know. Castle also jumps back and forth in time from paragraph to paragraph without explaining he is doing so, so that you are not always sure what the context of a particular quote is.

The production of the book was also subpar. Strangely, the introduction in my copy of the book was cut off before the end, and there were more than a book's fair share of spelling and grammatical errors.

Entangled in Ivy is a good resource on the MacPhail era, without going into the specifics of every personnel decision. It just is not that compelling of a read.

4 out of 5 stars Castle gets it right, human folly the real cause for Cubs' ineptitude.......2007-04-02

I've been waiting for years for a provacative book on the Chicago Cubs to come out and detail the shortcomings of this much-ridiculed organization, particularly the state of this franchise over the last ten to fifteen years. Like millions of other heartbroken and frustrated fans, I've been left to wonder just what exactly is wrong with this challenged organization. Why can't they turn the corner and start producing consistent winning teams, much less get in the playoffs and win the World Series? Castle maps out the blueprint of failure to a "T" and, while there are no major bombshells to be discovered, he reasons that it's all been about key people making the wrong decisions versus some silly curse.

      5 out of 5 stars K. Elliott's debut novel a classic.......2007-04-01

There are few authors who can look back at their debut novel with pride and the realization that it may very well be one of the most well-written books of their generation. K. Elliott has entered that realm with ENTANGLED. For those who haven't read the story, I won't ruin it for you here, but I will say that he gets us into the mindset of the main characters and helps us to understand the struggles that they---and we--- face daily.

We have the same ability as Jamaal: evil rears its ugly head at us daily. It is up to us how we face it.

Congrats to Kevin for a powerful right, and a book that is brave enough to tackle difficult social issues and personal demons while at the same time entertaining us along the way.

I had this book for sometime before I decided to pick it up and give it a try. It was recommended from the book store owner which at the time I thought he just trying to get a sale. It ended up being a very good book w/ an excellent story line. Give it a try in your spare time I promise you will finish it in a few days.

      5 out of 5 stars Riveting!.......2006-07-04

This book is a page turner! Intelligently written and full of suspense, this novel follows the escapades of a convict unable to change. The book contains several sub-plots of friendship and love. I was off from work one day and completed the entire book. I could not put it down! A must read if you enjoy gritty urban fiction!

      3 out of 5 stars Foolish.......2005-11-17

It's been five years and Jamal Stewart was leaving Coleman, Florida heading to Charlotte, North Carolina. Jamal's stretch was spent looking at lavish mansions and luxury cars. The only plan he had was to live his life with an ordinary job. Imagine Jamal, big time hustler accustomed to having everything, now being apart of the working class.

Dream Nelson, a 24 year old opted to follow her parents footsteps as an educator. An only child, from a good neighborhood and a loving two parent household found that she was enticed by that notorious bad boy brand. Her current man was actually on lock serving time for vehicular homicide. Dating straight laced academic types just didn't work for her.

Agent Mark Pratt joined the Drug Enforcement Agency instead of the church like his father and father's father. His goal was to have a career that would impact other people lives. His lifelong dream was to rid the streets of drug dealers, get addicts into treatment and all would be good in the hood. Conflicted by his religion and job, Mark hated that his thoroughness usually targeted black men that lead to their jailing.

As shocking as it is to believe a black man who happens to be an ex-con is unable to find a job. And people wonder why prisons seem to have the revolving door affect. Forced to jump back to his reign on the streets Jamal is just trying to get some major money and then live legitimately. Yeah, that's how it works.

A trip to Miami to boast his freedom and a much needed vacation from visiting jail and teaching children Dream and Jamal lives become ENTANGLED.

Dress him up and take him out on a night with the folks and he comes dressed like an infamous pimp. Take her out and she's on her first official drug run. My days are cold without you, while I'm hurting while I'm with you. And though my heart can't take no more, I keep on running back to you.

At best I'd say the story was choppy. The impending shock factor was ruined by contradicting characters. The potential for a strong story with complex characters is there, but somehow it gets buried. Instead an intensified hood tale flops into HUMDRUM!

I had the pleasure of reading this novel in ebook format courtesy of K Elliott's publisher. Once I begin reading the romance of Dream and Jamal, I could not get away from the computer. I read the book in one day. Dream and Jamal's relationship happened by chance. They met on a trip to Miami for 4th of July weekend. Realizing they were both from Charlotte, NC, their friendship turned into something serious. Dream, a middle school teacher has always been attracted to thugs. She was simply a thug lova. Her current boyfriend DeVon was incarcerated due to vehicular homicide. Dream being a faithful girlfriend visited DeVon faithfully until he found out one of his cellmates was Dream's high school boyfriend. The ex still held on to pictures of Dream which made DeVon furious. He goes off on her when she comes to visit him and basically tells her to get gone. In comes Jamal..rough around the edges w/ alot of baggage in his life. At first all goes well. Dream tries to introduce Jamal to different things in life (ala getting him out of his ghetto state of mind). Things turn for the worse when the DEA is onto Jamal and his bestfriend. Dream becomes in "entangled" in Jamal's dangerous world.

This is very good book. I was very sad with the ending of the book. Its so unfortunate how someone you love, can cause you a life full of grief and trouble.

Entangled is another entry in Bethany House's old Portraits series. Tracie Peterson is also one of my favorite authors. I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. Cara Kellser is forced to join politician Bob Kerns as his running mate for governor of Kansas. During the road to election and after, Cara finds out what type of man Kerns really is. She wants to get out but she fears for her life and the lives of those connected to her, specifically her daughter and state trooper Harry Oberlin. The characters of the bad guys in the story are deliciously evil as they are men who think only of themselves, and how they can keep profiting not thinking about their family or those close to them. If all politicians are like this: Beware!

I enjoyed this book for the most part. My only main complaint is the character of Cara's daughter. She is supposed to be 11 years old in the book yet she acts liek a 5 year old. Maybe kids have matured more in the last few years but when I was 10 I didnt' jump around all the time, waiting to be picked up and carried by people. Also I'm not sure of how other states run their elections but it seemed unlikely that someone with absoluetly no political experience whatsoever would be able to run for office. Political parties are not mentioned but it seems that Cara's political views are different from Kerns, and I'm sure that the media would have brought that up and made a big deal about it.

The romance story is not the main story and seems to be put in as an afterthought. The story was fast paced, suspenseful and gives a good look into political campaigns. Enjoyable read during election time!

4 out of 5 stars A very action packed story of faith and romance.......1999-11-09

A well known devout christian widow is blackmailed into running for attorney general to bolster the campaign of an evil man for govenor. With faith in God that He will sustain her and the help of her bodygaurd with whom she falls in love, she goes forward in hope that good will prevail over evil. I found the overall theme of faith in God through great trials very uplifting.

5 out of 5 stars An Invigorating Intellectual History.......2006-09-16

This book was a revelation. I was simply enthralled by Joel Hagen's brilliance in reviewing the emergence of the discipline of ecosystem ecology (the study of biotic-abiotic interaction and nutrient flows in ecological systems). He does a magnificent job of introducing the personalities that midwived the new science. He explains their intellectual struggles, philosophical cross-currents, and different academic milieux. He also expertly illuminates sociopolitical context. Through his in-depth research he is able to dispel some misconceptions and truismsm, arriving at the heart of what made each scientist tick. Even when exploring some of the arcane figures and dead-end developments, he is so compelling that they become integral to the story, not sidetracks.

His breadth of knowledge, his discerning inclusiveness, his clarity of thought, all make _An Entangled Bank_ a stimulating read. Very often in science courses we are presented only with the canonical "state of the science," having to swallow its agglomerated whole free of context. Hagen reveals the wisdom of understanding intellectual foundations. Through study of the origins and development of a science, we may better grasp the received tenets of current scientific understanding. As a young science, ecosystem ecology has a historical context that is relatively accessible to us, if less romantic than a tale of the origins of astronomy might be.

A peek into the labs and offices of botanists, limnologists, and biogeochemists might not seem like the acme of excitement. Hagen inspires us with his insights. He makes his subject meaningful to us. Though it is not pleasure reading by any stretch, its clear-sighted intellectual vigor makes _An Entangled Bank_ pure enjoyment.
