Bait of Satan.......2007-09-28
First... in reading his first page... my response: YOU ARE GREEDY.
Did you not know this is too a bait of satan?
Anyway, the bottom line is something I already knew... save yourself the trouble... use the God given gift of Discernment the Good Lord gave to you to use in the first place.
the whole book surrounds OFFENSE.
Hey people, if you aren't offended in this day and age there is something wrong with you. It is how you respond to those offenses that matters.
and if you think you want to teach a class on the subject... go to the Bible; not to this book. He tells you not to COPY it in any formation at all... even if you want to discuss it! Well Mr. Bevere, how do think a class is suppose to discuss something without viewing it? Oh, that's right... plug in... each person has to PURCHASE the B"OOK. Marketed Christianity for certain. Just read the New Testament... and it will teach you something about OFFENSES.
Everyone's been offended... but what should we do?.......2007-05-16
Every single person has been offended one time or other. How do I know? The Bible says it is so! No one who lives in a time like this is free from offense, but the offense does not need to color the way we see things, how we view life, and how we perceive the people who have offended us. The offense can grow to become bitterness and take root in our lives. This book helps us identify that we have been offended, and the great need to forgive and release the offense.
"Offended people produce much fruit, such as hurt, anger, outrage, jealousy, resentment, strife, bitterness, hatred, and envy. Some of the consequences of picking up an offense are insults, attacks, wounding, division, separation, broken relationships, betrayal, and backsliding." (pg. xiv)
Why is the book entitled "The Bait of Satan"? Well, Bevere explains that the Greek word for "offend" in Luke 17:1 comes from the word skandalon, which originally referred to the part of the trap which the bait was attached. Hence, the word signifies laying a trap in someone's way. In the New Testament it often describes an entrapment used by the enemy.
The following are some quotes from the book:
- Our response to an offense determines our future.
- An offended Christian is one who takes in life but because of fear, cannot release it.
- When we filter everything through past hurts, rejections, and experiences, we find it impossible to believe God.
- There is only one person who can get you out of the will of God, and that is you!
- It is righteous for God to avenge His servants. It is unrighteous for God's servants to avenge themselves.
- Acquiring an offense keeps you from seeing your character flaws because blame is deferred to another.
- When we ratain an offense in our hearts, we filter everything through it.
- Jesus offended some people by obeying His Father, but He never caused an offense in order to assert His own rights.
- A slave is one who has to serve while a servant is one who lives to serve.
- A person who cannot forgive has forgotten how great a debt God has forgiven them.
Definite Must Read.......2007-05-11
John Bevere's book "The Bait Of satan" is phenomenal to say the least! He covers all the angles of forgiveness, unforgiveness, grudges and offesnses, and backs everything up with good solid scripture. I dealt with holding grudges and unforgiveness for many years, and after reading this book, the Lord set me free! Believe me, if you have issues with being offended, and not being able to let go, you have GOT to read this book. It will change your life!
Truth, truth, and more truth.......2006-12-19
My flesh hated this book but my spirit loved it! The author confronts an issue of which none of us are immune. For the sake of our own souls we must never hold offense.
A book study for every Church........2006-12-18
My Church did this as a Bible Study and now it is required for membership. It was a life changing experience for me and many friends who do not even attend church. The Liar, Deciever, the devil will do everything possible to get you out of your Church and hate God and die and this is the ultimate way to do it by being offended with your brothers and sisters.
Don't be decieved.
Learn, grow, love, forgive. Bless the Body of the Church.
Know what you are up against. You will be able to spot an offense as soon as it hits and rise above it in Christ.

Interesting book that is highly focussed on how we should react to offenses. It is helpful to study this book in a small group rather than just reading it.
An Important Book - Forgive so that You May be Forgiven.......2007-09-21
The Golden Rule states to do unto others what you would have them do unto you. That message was meant for good things, to treat others well in the hopes you'd be treated well in return. Unfortunately, too many people have used this as a license to treat others poorly just because they've been treated poorly themselves.
The Golden Rule is based on Matthew 7:12, where Jesus says that, in short, you should treat others the way you want to be treated.
The point of Bevere's book is offense and how to deal with it. The message is to forgive because the Bible is quite clear that if we don't forgive others, God won't forgive us. After all, fair is fair, and God is always fair and is the embodiment of that. It isn't about how wrong we've been treated or how justified we are to be mad at or upset with someone else. Judgment and justice belong to Christ alone so who are we to mete it out? It's simply not our place and by holding grudges and not forgiving someone, we are passing judgment on them by withholding our love and forgiveness from them.
Bevere hits the message home with a hard smack, as he's so good at. His writing style is simple and clear, but very poignant, frequently reminding the reader of what the Bible says about offense and forgiveness without pulling any punches.
This book is a true gem and a must for the serious Christian's bookshelf. It is also important reading for the non-Christian because, as it is with truth, truth is universal and applies to everyone.
This book is important. It is life-changing because it is based on a Word that can divide joints and marrow, and soul and spirit.
This Book is Based on Bad Theology.......2007-08-10
Forgiveness is important, vital to the Christian life, but this book does not give an accurate picture of the forgiveness taught by Jesus.
The premise of the book, stated in the first few pages, is this: Jesus forgives everyone, so we must forgive everyone.
Except that Jesus does not forgive everyone. Unlike love, forgiveness is conditional. He OFFERS forgiveness to everyone, but only gives it to those who have repented of their sin.
Forgiveness in the church is to work the same way. If someone who claims to be a Christian is in sin, (overlooking the small stuff) we are to confront that person in love. If they repent, then forgiveness is to be offered immediately and their offense is to be completely wiped off the books. If we can't forgive properly after someone has properly repented, then we are in sin and have our own idols to confront.
If however, the offending party does not confess their sin and clean up the mess they made (the biblical description of repentance found in Numbers 5:5-6), other Christians are not supposed to just forgive him and move on. Matthew 18 teaches that they are to confront him again in a larger group, then again by the local body as a whole, and then if they still will not make things right, they are to be turned out of the body. Those in the body are to continue to go to him and encourage him to clean things up and return, but Christians are not to be in good standing in the body of Christ when they will not repent of their sin. (1 Cor 5) Period.
This is an important process for weeding out the tares. If someone claims to be a Christian, but refuses to be held accountable after repeatedly being confronted lovingly from scripture, then he just might not actually be a Christian.
This book, based on the idea that all sin is to be forgiven and that Christians should just 'let go' of things that offend God, regardless of how rebellious the offending person is or how high up in ministry they are, is not biblical. God hates sin. He wants it addressed in His church. He says that those who don't address it frankly, share in the guilt of it (Leviticus 19:17) . This book not only teaches Christians to turn a blind eye to sin, it will lead to rampant abuse in the church where it is practiced.
Neither does it distinguish forgiveness and fellowship. If someone has sinned against us, and been turned out of the body for not repenting, then it is time for us who are offended to "forgive from the heart" (Matt 18:35), but that does not mean that fellowship is restored. It is not.
Bevere even goes as far as to give examples from his life and his ministry, where he failed to confront sin in others, even another pastor who was sinning against not just him but several people in the church, and presents them as if he was doing a good thing by not addressing the problem. He seems to feel that because it all worked out in the end, that what he did was right. Except that he was failing his God and his congregation by failing to act biblically in these situations. And how do we know that it all worked out in the end for the other people that were victims of the sinning pastor?
Further, this book calls God a sinner. One of the other premises of the book is that if you are offended, you are in sin. Jesus trashed the temple courts because He was offended that God's House was being turned into a place for profiteers. If the teachings of this book are true, then Jesus was in sin.
Not to mention that God spent pretty much the whole Old Testament being offended at the behavior of almost everyone. Anger and Jealousy are among the attributes of God. Taking Bevere's theology to its logical consequence, God Himself is in serious and habitual sin and is in need of repentance.
Forgiveness is important, but it needs to be placed in context. The theological holes in this book are big enough to drive a truck through, and there are a lot more than I have mentioned here. My brother in law gave me a copy and I returned it to him with notes on every other page bringing his attention to the problems it has. I urge Christians reading this book to get out your Bible and read the passages I have noted here.
Books like this high light the importance of having a discerning mind and running all "Christian" books through the screen of inerrant scripture. ALL of scripture.

Excellent book.......2007-07-04
It's well-supported biblically, practical, and able to positively impact relationships.
After reading this book, I bought copies for each of my 4 children, for my pastor and one of the church elders, who in turn bought copies for each of the church elders.

Questions for Barbara Ehrenreich
Through over three decades of journalism and activism and over a dozen books, Barbara Ehrenreich has been one of the most consistent and imaginative chroniclers of class in America, but it was her bestselling 2001 book, Nickel and Dimed, a undercover expose of the day-to-day struggles of the working poor, that has been the most influential work of her career. Now, with Bait and Switch, she has gone undercover again, this time as a middle-aged professional trying to get a white-collar job in corporate America. We asked her a few questions about what she found:
Amazon.com: Your previous book, Nickel and Dimed, became a blockbuster bestseller with a classic "there but for the grace of God go I" liberal message just when the general political mood of the country seemed to be going in a very different direction. Why do you think it struck such a chord? What sorts of reactions have you gotten to it over the past four years?
Barbara Ehrenreich: A lot of Nickel and Dimed readers are people who regularly inhabit the low-wage work world, and many of them write to tell me that the book affirmed their experience and made them feel less alone and ignored. Other readers though, are affluent people who write to say I opened their eyes to a world they'd been unaware of. For those people, I think one appealing feature of Nickel and Dimed is that it's a personal narrative that gives them a look at lives lived at the margins of their own. The most gratifying response has been from people who tell me the book inspired them to become activists for things like a living wage or affordable housing.
Amazon.com: At what point did you realize that your new book, Bait and Switch, in which you went undercover again, this time to tell a story of working in corporate America, was instead becoming one of not working in corporate America? Is that the story you expected to tell?
Ehrenreich: My initial aim was not "to tell a story of working in corporate America" but to try to understand the human underside of corporate America--the job insecurity, the constant layoffs and downsizings that now occur even in the best of times. I expected to get a job and hence an inside view, but I always knew that that would be very difficult. After about 4-5 months of job searching, I began to get seriously discouraged, but I also came to understand that a fruitless search is in fact a very common experience. After all, today 44 percent of the long-term unemployed are white collar folks--an unusually high percentage. It's their world I entered, and their story that I tell in Bait and Switch.
Amazon.com: For someone with a white-collar career, you didn't have much experience in corporate culture before you attempted to join it for this book. What surprised you the most about what you found?
Ehrenreich: What surprised me most, right from day one of my job search, was the surreal nature of the job searching business. For example, everyone, from corporations to career coaches, relies heavily on "personality tests" which have no scientific credibility or predictive value. One test revealed that I have a melancholy and envious nature and, for some reason, was unsuited to be a writer! And what does "personality" have to do with getting the job done, anyway? There's far less emphasis on skills and experience than on whether you have the prescribed upbeat and likeable persona. I kept wondering: Is this any way to run a business? I was also surprised--and disgusted--by the constant victim-blaming you encounter among coaches, at networking events for the unemployed, and in the business advice books. You're constantly told that whatever happens to you is the result of your attitude or even your "thought forms"--not a word about the corporate policies that lead to so much turmoil and misery.
Amazon.com: You seemed to make much closer ties with your fellow workers in Nickel and Dimed than you did on the white-collar job hunt. What was different this time?
Ehrenreich: You're right--there is a difference. But it's not so much a matter of personalities as it is about two different worlds. There's a lot of camaraderie in the blue-collar world I entered in Nickel and Dimed. People help each other and look out for each other; they laugh together--often at the managers. The white-collar world doesn't encourage camaraderie, far from it. There it's all about competition and fear--of losing one's job, for one thing. Other people are seen as sources of contacts or tips, at best; as competitors or rivals, at worst. And among the unemployed add shame and a sense of personal failure, the constant message that it's all your own fault. All this discourages any solidarity with others or real openness.
Amazon.com: God forbid anyone would come to your book as a guide for finding a white-collar job, but what advice would you give to someone in the shoes you put yourself in: a middle-aged professional woman, in fear of falling irrevocably out of touch with the world of the regularly employed?
Ehrenreich: You don't think I'd make a good career coach? OK, but I have three pieces of advice for the middle-aged, middle-class job seeker anyway:
One, be very careful how you spend your money and time. Since the mid-90s, a whole industry has sprung up to help--or, depending on your point of view, prey upon--white-collar job seekers. The "professionals" in this business are usually entirely unlicensed and unregulated. Also, watch out for events billed as "networking" opportunities that really have another agenda--like recruiting you into expensive coaching or proselytizing you into a particular religion.
Two, don't count on the internet job sites to find you a job or even an interview. On any of these sites, your resume will be competing with hundreds of thousands of others, and most large companies today don't even bother reading online resumes; they have computer programs scan them for keywords (and you won't know what those keywords are.)
Three, and most important: stop believing that it's your own fault. That's the first step to recognizing the common problems facing white-collar workers and responding to them. I'd be thrilled if this book, like Nickel and Dimed, also inspires readers to get involved and become active in efforts to make life a little easier for the growing numbers of people who are unemployed, underemployed, or anxiously employed. What could they do? Lobby for universal health insurance that's not tied to a job, for example. Fight for extended unemployment benefits. Raise their voices to complain about corporate tax breaks and subsidies that are justified in terms of "job creation" but often go to companies that are busy laying people off. One major reason job loss is so catastrophic is that we just don't have much of a safety net in this country. That has to change, and who's going to make it change, if not people like those I met in Bait and Switch? I've got a new website, barbaraehrenreich.com, and I'd like to hear from readers--both their stories and their ideas for how to take action.

Book Description
The New York Times bestselling investigation into white-collar unemployment from “our premier reporter of the underside of capitalism”—The New York Times Book Review
Americans’ working lives are growing more precarious every day. Corporations slash employees by the thousands, and the benefits and pensions once guaranteed by “middle-class” jobs are a thing of the past.
In Bait and Switch, Barbara Ehrenreich goes back undercover to explore another hidden realm of the economy: the shadowy world of the white-collar unemployed. Armed with the plausible résumé of a professional “in transition,” she attempts to land a “middle-class” job. She submits to career coaching, personality testing, and EST-like boot camps, and attends job fairs, networking events, and evangelical job-search ministries. She is proselytized, scammed, lectured, and—again and again—rejected.
Bait and Switch highlights the people who have done everything right—gotten college degrees, developed marketable skills, and built up impressive résumés—yet have become repeatedly vulnerable to financial disaster. There are few social supports for these newly disposable workers, Ehrenreich discovers, and little security even for those who have jobs. Worst of all, there is no honest reckoning with the inevitable consequences of the harsh new economy; rather, the jobless are persuaded that they have only themselves to blame.
Alternately hilarious and tragic, Bait and Switch, like the classic Nickel and Dimed, is a searing exposé of the cruel new reality in which we all now live.

The book I loved to hate!.......2007-09-22
This book exposes the real world of a dying, struggling middle class.
If you aren't aware of what can happen to hard-working people with great jobs that they love, and suddenly find themselves downsized into poverty, you are one of the lucky ones.
Yes, there are always jobs for people who really want to work, but if the only jobs you can find, as author illustrates, won't allow you to keep up with the basic expenses of living... Well, quite frankly you are up the creek without a paddle. And because of corporate downsizing and outsourcing of jobs to other countries, that boat is full of of passengers without a paddle.
The problem is that people in this situation THOUGHT that they had a paddle that should have allowed them to sail through this situation: education, experience, good resume, references and a solid work ethic.
Read Bait and Switch and decide for yourself if the middle class is dying in America.
As an economics professor.......2007-09-20
I believe in having students read something besides the textbook. This one while informative, I would have to pass on. If my college students read this, they will despair, leave college and then I would be one of those people in the book.
When are companies going to get that it takes two to tango. Supply AND demand? When we are all living on minimum wage, who is going to buy their stuff? Oh well............try this one

the focus on few loser in the networking process ignores those who got the job and left networking.
the criticism of the self-help movement is inspiring but plays the victimization game that individual problem is entirely the product of the environment and the fault of somebody else.
too much inappropriate and distracted remarks.
A good incentive for staying employed at all costs, lol.......2007-08-09
Author Ehrenreich went undercover, posing as an unemployed middle class white-collar worker looking for a job. As she threads her way through career counselors, resume services, networking sessions, and the dreaded obstacle, The Gap, she finds herself no closer to a real job. The jobs she is offered are those that she estimates 31% of the US workforce now holds: sales jobs with companies like Aflac and Mary Kay that offer no salary, no benefits, and often no workplace. The alternative for many of her fellow job-seekers are "survival" jobs, that pay little but take up too much time for the job holder to actively seek another job. In the final chapter, Barbara returns to her real life with the conclusion that there is something very wrong here, and some suggestions for how society should fix it.
Same problems, and not as good as before........2007-06-28
Barbara Ehrenreich falls into the same traps that she did in Nickel and Dimed. Her far-left political biases come glaring through. As an atheist, she has contempt for people with religious belief, and therefore dismisses the religion she encounters outright. And unlike Nickel and Dimed, she seems to have gotten lazier, relying on internet job searches, and aiming too high for much of her job hunt. So most of the book describes herself searching monster.com. I can do that myself without paying $14.00 for her book. What's most annoying is her pretentiousness, which was evident in Nickel and Dimed as well. She continually wonders why her natural skills as a PhD and New York Times columnist don't automatically shine through. She seems to expect a job to fall into her lap without doing any real leg-work.
On the other hand, as a college graduate that is "under-employed," I fully sympathize with the predicaments she outlines. I wish she would propose better solutions, though. Her grand solutions are the same overused liberal talking points of national health-care and some sort of vague call to "band together," a reference to unions, I suppose. She had similar conclusions in Nickel and Dimed that really didn't address the problems she found. While national health care would be a good thing, I don't see how it solves the problems of corporate lay-offs and outsourcing. Although I'm inclined to agree with much of her politics, I'd rather she kept it to herself.

Full color 256-page book from long-time fishing legend and Florida Sportsman Magazine Sr.Editor Vic Dunaway. Provides complete information On baits, rigs & tackle for fresh & saltwater, fly, and inshore and offshore fishing.
Customer Reviews:
It's complete... generally speaking........2007-10-02
This manual is a great starter. It has general information about all aspects of fishing, fresh water and salt, spinning casting and trolling, even fly fishing.
However it left me a little uninformed with specifics for certain regions and technique. Which I cannot totally agree with as a "Comlete" book of rigs and tackle.
It is however a great purchase for the fisherman who is just getting started or for a gift for that aspiring fisherman who needs or desires information on a wide variety of setups and general techniques.
I would give it 5 star review as an aforementioned gift or purchse in that case.
ciao, Scott
Slightly Disappointed.......2006-07-04
I expected more information about particular species and their habits and what rigs to use. The book was VERY general. Good for a beginner but lacking detail in what others beyond this level might want. It has a thorough explanation about knots.
Again- good for beginners but not what I was looking for or expected.
TERRIFIC AS A QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE.......2005-10-25
YOU'LL BE MORE SATISFIED WITH THIS BOOK IF YOU THINK OF IT AS A SPECIFIC ITEM REFERENCE MANUAL.IT'S NOT A MEMORY RIDDEN TALE FROM SOME OLD TIMER OF FISHING 'BACK IN THE DAY' ... SIMPLY PUT ITS NOT A PAGE ONE TO PAGE 256 STRAIGHT THROUGH READ AND YOU'LL REALIZE THAT SHORTLY AFTER YOU NOD OFF TRYING TO GET THROUGH CHAPTER 1'S LENGTHY DISECTION OF RODS AND REELS ... YOU'LL PROBABLY SEE THE REAL VALUE OF THIS BOOK IS TO USE IT RIGHT WHEN YOU NEED IT ... EVEN DURING AN ACTUAL OUTING WHEN ... FOR EXAMPLE .. YOU SUDDENLY REALIZE YOU'VE TOTALLY FORGOTTEN HOW TO TIE A UNIKNOT, OR YOU CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT THE HECK THE 'COAT HANGER' (SPREADER) IS THAT YOU FOUND IN YOUR FRIENDS TACKLEBOX ...SADLY, THERE IS NO MATCHING TACKLE TO CERTAIN FISH,AND A LOT OF GLARING AND/OR ANNOYING OMISSIONS SUCH AS THE BEST WAY TO RIG A FROZEN ANCHOVY FOR EXAMPLE; ON THE OTHER HAND THE WRITER SPECIFICALLY INCLUDES A PIC OF HOW TO RIG A DEAD SHRIMP ... I WANTED TO SEE A RIGGED FROZEN ANCHOVY SOOO BADLY ... (WHO DECIDED THE SHRIMP WAS MORE IMPORTANT ? ...)
THE MATERIAL IS HELPFUL ... IF IT IS INCLUDED ... BUT FRUSTRATING WHEN A CHAPTER SUDDENLY BECOMES 'UNEVEN' IN ITS INSTRUCTIONAL STRENGTH ... AS IF THE WRITER WAS CONTINUALLY 'WARMING' ONLY TO HIS FAVORITE FISHING EXPERTISE ... AND SKIMMING OVER THINGS HE KNEW LESS OF ... THIS WRITER DID NO RESEARCH AT ALL OF ANY KNOWLEDGE HE KNEW LESS ABOUT,IT WAS SIMPLY IGNORED OR SKIMMED OVER AS HE SIMPLY DREW ONLY FROM HIS OWN EXPERIENCE ... I'D BUY IT AGAIN,AND I DO KEEP IT WITH ME WHILE FISHING, BUT YOU'LL NOT FIND IT QUITE AS 'COMPLETE' AS THE COVER CLAIMS IT IS.
Everything you need..........2005-09-20
Easy to read and very informative. It will give you the insight and knowledge to make sure your rig holds up once you've gotten the fish to bite. This book goes into detail on everything from hook sizes to which rigs could be vulnerable to sharp teeth. I would recommend this book to any fisherman.
A Must for novice to professional.......2005-08-13

The Book of Letters: A Mystical Alef-Bait is written in English, but the format is classically Talmudic. The book opens from right to left, ending on the page where most readers are accustomed to beginning. Lawrence Kushner, a Massachusetts rabbi whose writings have helped restore a mystical dimension to popular Judaism in America, wrote The Book of Letters in beautiful calligraphy that is reproduced on every page of this finely bound edition. The text does not so much analyze or explain the letters of the Hebrew alphabet as play with them, teasing their forms and functions for hints of their significance. Noting that aleph, the unpronounceable first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, is also the first letter of the names of the first man (Adam), the first Jew (Abraham), and the herald of the last man (Elijah), as well as the first letter of the first commandment, Kushner notes that "The most basic words there are begin with the most primal sound there is." The Book of Letters is full of seriously playful insights like this. It's a marvelous guide to meditation, a primer for students of Hebrew calligraphy, and a fun introduction to learning Hebrew. --Michael Joseph Gross
Book Description
In calligraphy by the author. Folktales about and exploration of the mystical meanings of the Hebrew Alphabet. Open the old prayerbook-like pages of
The Book of Letters and you will enter a special world of sacred tradition and religious feeling. More than just symbols, all twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet overflow with meanings and personalities of their own. Rabbi Kushner draws from ancient Judaic sources, weaving Talmudic commentary, Hasidic folktales, and Kabbalistic mysteries around the letters. Each letter is illuminated and, together with the comments, is presented in the author s original calligraphy, recalling the look and feel of ancient medieval manuscripts.

Eh..........2007-01-23
I enjoy Rabbi Kushner's books, but Sefer Otiyot is frankly a bit of a disappointment. Not that there's nothing good about the book -- no; in fact, it is arty and would make a very nice gift book for someone. But if you really want to study the "mystical meaning" of Ketav Ashurit, then I would go with Rabbi Monk's book instead.
Sefer OTiYOT is truly a Prayerbook of Hebrew Letters.......2006-08-23
The first words from the Book Cover, speak literal truth: When opening this Prayerbook-feeling of like pages as "The Book of Letters" you enter a special world of sacred, traditional and religious feeling. More than just symbols, all 22 letters of the Hebrew Alef-Bait become like personalities all their own.
The SEFER OTiYOT exist independently of ink and paper or even words. The good Rabbi again spins out his volumes of meaning, much the same as in the Introduction to The BOOK Of WORDS. "The SEFER OTiYOY (written in Hebrew letters) have been a mystical Alef-Bait and fantasy for the Jewish people all through their history...One mythical hope with this book is to keep that tradition alive for so many who have even forgotten some of the letters!"
Each beautifully ornamented Hebrew Letter from ALEF...to SHIN... to TAV...is carefully introduced almost in Rabbinical language! I can only quote from SHIN: "Shin is the letter just before the end. It is the fitting together of all the parts. The restoration of all the scattered shards parts. This is Shin: Peace (Hebrew) SHALOM. Completion. Wholeness.
Rabbi Kushner likely spent many hours, many days, maybe even many years, creatively putting together these mystical letters and words of the Hebrew Alef-Bait. What a treasure of spiritual depth, learning and wisdom in few pages. Reverently from Retired Chap Fred W Hood
Stunning.......2006-01-12
It is believed that G-d spoke the universe into existance using the letters of the Hebrew Alefbet. Each letter, therefore, carries within it one 22nd of the energy of the universe. Kushner captures this so beautifully in The Book of Letters. Each page is a collage. Each letter beautifully drawn. Each description a love letter to G-d.
This is truly a holy book.

While Emma Collins wonders who in their right mind would use her hard-won divorce settlement to purchase a bed-and-breakfast down in the Ozarks, her free-spirited sister Katy fantasizes dreamily about how this move to a small town will be just the thing for her six-year-old son, Josh.
And, as usual, Emma is right. But it is not until they drive to Warbler Lake, Missouri, to take over Bitsy's B & B that they realize just how right she's been. In this part of the country, B & B stands for Bait and BBQ! The girls know little enough about running a bed-and-breakfast, but a bait-and-BBQ?
With their money and futures sunk into a run-down, roadside rattletrap, the girls have no choice but to roll up their sleeves and get to work. But as they settle in and get to know the difference between fatheads, night crawlers, mealworms and shiners, no one is more surprised than they are when they actually get the place up and running.
But trouble is brewing. Katy's ex-husband is having second thoughts about the custody arrangements for Josh, and he fully intends to get him back. With the prospect of losing the little boy, the sisters face another challenge, only this time it's Katy who proves that she, too, can solve a problem.

A Breath of Fresh Air.......2007-10-02
Bitsy's Bait and BBQ is a little snapshot of life in the Missouri Ozarks. The characters are endearing and it is a delightful tale of small community life. It is a charming story of Katy and Emma who think they are buying a Bed and Breakfast and instead wind up with a Bait and BBQ. While Katy and Emma adapt to country life and try to master the BBQ pit, Katy's ex-husband Sean and his domineering mother Gwen arrive to try to gather evidence in order to change the custody arrangements for Josh, Katy's son. The small community rallies around Katy and the story comes to a great ending. My only complaint is that I want to know the rest of the story. Several budding romances were just beginning to blossom at the end of the book and I want to know what happens next.
Bitsy's Bait & BBQ by Pamela Morsi.......2007-07-23
I started reading Pamela Morsi years ago. She is one of my favorite authors. I am still reading this book but so far I love it. If I had the time I would just sit and read it all the way through!!!
bitsy's bait & bbq.......2007-07-01
I am a huge fan of Pamela Morsi, I have read all of her books, some of them many times over. THIS IS HER BEST BOOK. Wonderful story line, a place you want to visit, a heroine with a heart and backbone, great supporting cast and an antagonist you love to hate. A sequel is a must (she has done this before). Thank you Pam for a book that is a keeper. Also, Bitsy is very quotable, as my family both fishes and cooks.
feel good family drama.......2007-06-29
Bitsy's Bait and Barbecue by Pamela Morsi was a charming novel set in the Ozarks of Missouri. Katy Dodson uses the divorce settlement she receives from her wealthy ex-husband to buy a B&B on eBay, thinking that the rural atmosphere and small town will be a wholesome place to raise her little son. Her sister Emma comes along to get Katy and little Josh settled in. The sisters are shocked when they learn that, in this case, B&B stands for Bait & BBQ rather than Bed & Breakfast - and that business, bought sight unseen, is a run down hole. Katy decides to make a go of it, and an interesting summer with all sorts of additional surprises awaits the sisters.
This was a very pleasant book about a family (and community) working out problems, growing up, and coming together.

Vic's Latest Knowledge Will Help You Catch'em...
This new edition is a major encore for Vic Dunaway, whose byline has been known to anglers all over the country, and in foreign lands as well, for more than 40 years. He has written hundreds of articles for national and regional magazines, and thousands of newspaper columns. He is, of course, a book author and also has appeared on four different television networks, as well as numerous local and syndicated programs.
Though skilled in many different angling specialties, and many writing styles, his strongest interest is in the teaching of fishing skills and enjoyment. Perhaps no other fishing writer has his knack for selecting just the right information on a particular angling subject and presenting it in the quickest, clearest manner--without unnecessary frills or padding.
Dunaway was founding editor when publisher Karl Wickstrom began Florida Sportsman Magazine more than a quarter of a century ago, and has played a leading role in the publication's growth into the largest and most authoritative monthly fishing magazine in the country.

Useful reference.......2002-06-12
This is a good beginner's guide to many types of fishing. It covers many different topics. These include: types of gear, types of line, lures, knots, rigging methods, and accessories. Instructions on technique are clear and illustrated by simple drawings. I found the section on leader types and rigs to be very helpful. While this book certainly won't make you an expert on any one type of fishing it would certainly help you get a start in just about any of them. I think it would be a useful reference to even the most experienced of anglers.
For the price it would be very hard to beat.
Bla, bla, bla........2002-04-26
Too much words, few and lousy b/w pictures. I expected more from the cover of the book and the reviews of other people.
Vic Dunaway's Complete Book of Baits Rigs and Tackle.......2002-02-12
This is another "general" treatise on fishing tackle. I think books such as this and ones such as "Hook, Line and Sinker" tend to be of little help to someone interested in a particular type of fishing. Books that attempt to cover all bases in fishing, in my opinion, end up missing the ball altogether. If this author wrote about cars, he'd cover everything from the family mini-van to Indy race cars. No real help to someone looking for specific information on a pick-up truck. Best to stick to narrow subject such as "fly fishing" or "saltwater fishing", as there is a world of individualized information in each type of fishing.
Money well spent.......2000-09-07
Jam packed with good information. Covers basic, and advanced techniques. Helped me catch more fish off the local pier.
A great fishing reference book-a" must have" for any angler........1999-11-19
This book is a complete reference guide without being redundant. Simple illustrations and easy to follow instructions make this book helpful to any angler.

Solid, entertaining - Read series in order.......2007-01-03
WARNING: If you plan on reading other books in the series, do not make the same mistake I did -- read them in order. This one contains "spoilers" for Monkey Wrench.
The characters are entertaining, and help get the reader wrapped in the story quickly. I found myself trying to get a few pages her and there, every chance I got. The spoilers are too bad -- other series writers are more careful not to do that, and looking back, it was not necessary to the plot.
WOW! for P.J Tracy.......2006-10-04
Wow! I thought the first P.J.Tracey book (Monkeewrench) was great, but this was even better. In Live Bait the story revolves around Detectives Magozzi and Rolseth as they investigate a series of murders, with help some from the team at Monkeewrench. The plot is different and the story moves quickly but the dialogue is really something special. The verbal interactions and witty exchanges between the characters really filled out their individual personalities. I feel like I've been reading about them for years!
Can't wait to start the next book!
So nice to revisit the Monkeewrench crew..........2006-08-20
I sort of lost track of the mother-daughter writing team of P. J. Tracy after their debut novel Monkeewrench. That was a great crime novel involving high-tech gaming and computer technology. Something put them back on my radar, and I discovered they had two other novels that I had missed. Making up for lost time, I immediately went out and got Live Bait. Very much a fun read...
The Monkeewrench crew (Roadrunner, Harley, Grace, and Annie) is atoning for the "Monkeewrench murders" in Minneapolis by developing a software package that ties together unrelated leads in criminal investigations. Outfitted in a luxurious motor coach, they are planning on traveling the country to try out the software gratis. While they're heading off to Arizona to solve some cold cases, homicide detectives Magozzi and Rolseth are getting bored with the lack of murders in the city. That dry streak comes to an end when a elderly nursery owner is found murdered in the middle of the night in front of one of his greenhouses. His equally elderly wife destroys the crime scene by moving him inside and "making him presentable" before calling the police. As the detectives conduct the investigation, they learn that everyone feels this guy was a near-saint, and nobody can imagine anyone wanting to murder him. The first clue comes in when another elderly lady dies, and they learn that both were Jewish concentration camp survivors. Another murder with the same framework happens shortly thereafter, and the media pressure starts to become intense. What is it that ties together these murders with another seemingly unrelated killing during the same timeframe?
I was a little disappointed that there wasn't as much techno-flash in this book as there was in the Monkeewrench novel. Still, I loved it. The interplay of dialogue between Magozzi and Rolseth is fresh and entertaining, and both characters have some depth to them. The Monkeewrench crew doesn't figure in as much in this story, but they are there in terms of subplot and character growth. And the thought of this particular band of eccentric computer geeks traveling around the country solving crimes opens a wealth of possibilities for additional installments. Definitely an "author" to read if you haven't yet had the pleasure...
"Live Bait and Switch"?(2 and a half stars).......2006-08-07
Book 2 in the 'Monkeewrench' series is, ultimately, disappointing, especially if you're looking for more of Grace and company. Their brief apperances in the book only serve to clue in the otherwise-lost Maagozzi and Rolseth.
"Live Bait" suffers from a very unoriginal premise, and, once again, too many characters. At times, it feels like it was written as a standalone story, then the authors decided to squeeze in the characters from 'Monkeewrench' to try to strengthen it. Unfortunately, even they can't make this book more memorable. The best parts, once again, are Grace's scenes with Magozzi. There's also a promising hint of things to come in book 3, "Dead Run". With any luck, focusing on Grace and the team, and getting out of Minneapolis for a little while, will give this series the 'reboot' it needs!
Vengeance All Around.......2006-07-27
In this sequel to the excellent "Monkeewrench", authors `PJ Tracy' revisit some of the characters from the first novel. The plot is engrossing, and filled with three-dimensional characters: when beloved ("saint"-like) Morey Gilbert is found dead on the grounds of his garden nursery, detectives Rolseth and Magozzi are called in to unravel why such a seeemingly wonderful man would be shot in the head. Gilbert's family is no help: his wife, Lily, destroyed any forensic evidence when she moved the body, cleaned it, then called the police; his son, Jack, is a personal injury lawyer, an alcoholic, and shunned by his family; and Marty, former policeman and son-in-law, is interupted in his suicide attempt by news of Gilbert's death - he, too, has an alcohol problem due to his wife's murder a year before. If that's not complicated enough, three other senior citizens are found dead, one of whom dies on a railroad track after being severely wounded. If - and how - these deaths are related makes up the majority of the book, and there are several suprises and twists into the victims' past - the Holocaust factors into this - that really keeps you thinking and guessing. Other characters from 'Monkeewrench' make small appearances, and the subplot of Grace MacBride and Magozzi's slow potential romance ties into the big finish. Although not quite as gripping as `Monkeewrench', this book is an excellent follow-up and definitely worthy of being read.
