Book Description
Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose is a brilliant mystery set in a fictitious medieval monastery. The text is rich with literary, historical, and theoretical references that make it eminently re-readable. The Key makes each reading fuller and more meaningful by helping the interested reader not merely to read but also to understand Eco's masterful work. Inspired by pleas from friends and strangers, the authors, each trained in Classics, undertook to translate and explain the Latin phrases that pepper the story. They have produced an approachable, informative guide to the book and its setting--the middle ages. The Key includes an introduction to the book, the middle ages, Umberto Eco, and philosophical and literary theories; a useful chronology; and reference notes to historical people and events.
The clear explanations of the historical setting and players will be useful to anyone interested in a general introduction to medieval history.
Adele J. Haft is Associate Professor of Classics, Hunter College, City University of New York. Jane G. White is chair of the Department of Languages, Dwight Englewood School. Robert J. White is Professor of Classics and Oriental Studies, Hunter College, City University of New York.

The Key to the Name of the Rose.......2003-06-18
After reading The Name of the Rose with few helps, discovering this book was quite wonderful. It goes into adaquate detail with the historical background, and I found the translations to be good and very helpful. A must for those trying the novel for the first time or for those who felt the lack of endnotes frustrating. A wonderful suppplement.
The Key to "The Name of the Rose".......2002-09-12
The Key to "The Name of the Rose" by Adele J. Haft, Jane G. White, and Robert J. White is a wonderful little book. When was the last time you used your Latin that you had in High School? You say, you never had Latin... well how do you expect to solve the clues that Brother William of Baskerville in "The Name of the Rose" gets.
Well, the answer is in this little tome as it includes translations of all of the Non-English passages making you as "smart" as Brother William. This book furthers your experience when reading "The Name of the Rose" as you now can decode the juicy clues. Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose" is about crimes in a medieval abbey and the obsession of it monks with heresies, apocalyptic visions, and forbidden knowledge.
This "Key" is a delightful guide to the phrases and bizarre characters and has mirthful anecdotes that you're sure to enjoy and you'll solve the mystery of the seven deaths as fast as Brother William and enjoy the intrigue in doing so.
excellent resource for artists.......2002-03-20
i am hoping to do an intricate performance art piece based on the novel "the name of the rose;" however, many of the lush details and layers were lost on me, because i am not a historian or a scholar well-versed in semiotics... the task is still daunting, but i feel more confident having this "hint book" to fill me in on the background information. it renders the novel much more accessible to a lay person, and makes the story even MORE fascinating than it already is. i suggest that anyone reading "the name of the rose" should have a copy of this to help them along... also, there is a text that does this same task for dante's "divine comedy" (dante has a large influence on the novel, so reading dante will help the reader to understand the apocolyptic attitudes of the characters). joseph gallagher wrote "a modern reader's guide to dante's 'the divine comedy'" which you may also find helpful.
A must-have for Name of the Rose neophytes.......2001-08-06
I'm enjoying Umberto Eco's NAME OF THE ROSE, but I don't understand so much as a tenth of the Latin. Before I reached page 200, I came to the sinking conclusion that I was missing out on something. I checked KEY TO NAME OF THE ROSE out at my local library, but soon realized that I needed to own my own copy to keep beside my copy of NAME OF THE ROSE. This book is a God-send for those NAME OF THE ROSE fans like me who lack a reading knowledge of Latin. Having other scholars' comments at hand really helps. If you're intrigued by NAME OF THE ROSE, but just don't get it, buy this book!
A very helpful companion volume.......1999-11-10
This is a very good guide to The Name of the Rose. Not perfect, but good. The non-English translations are very helpful, and beat sitting next to a Latin dictionary. The biographical information for historical characters is very good too. My only beef about this is that it doesn't address the historical backdrop of the novel well enough: the Renaissance of the previous century, the conflicts in the Church at the time, and the looming disasters of the 14th century between the time the novel takes place and the time the narrator lays the tale down. Get this volume if you're going to read the book. But don't rely strictly on this.

Want more of Don Rosa's monumental The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck? The Life of Scrooge McDuck Companion is it, six new chapters that weave through the original 12 that have the pre-miser Scrooge encountering Magica De Spell, the Beagle Boys, Annie Oakley and other Western icons, and Teddy Roosevelt at the Panama Canal. Even better, "The Prisoner of White Agony Creek" and "Hearts of the Yukon" reveal Scrooge's (gasp) romantic side in his brief but intense relationship with Glittering Goldie. Filling out the volume are an excerpt from another Rosa tale of the early Scrooge, "Last Sled to Dawson," and "The Dream of a Lifetime," which puts an amusing time-travel spin on a number of the Life and Times chapters. If you haven't already read the complete "Last Sled to Dawson," however, you'll have to pick it up elsewhere, like in the Uncle Scrooge & Donald Duck: Don Rosa Special or Uncle Scrooge #350. --David Horiuchi
Book Description
You asked for them, and here they are... the pre-chapters, the post-chapters and the in-between chapters of Don Rosa's Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck! Included in this companion are the stories "The Cowboy Captain of the Cutty Sark," "The Vigilante of Pizen Bluff," "The Prisoner of White Agony Creek," "Hearts of the Yukon" and "Sharpie of the Culebra Cut." Finally rounding out the collection are two slightly unusual takes on Scrooge's life: "Of Ducks and Dimes and Destinies" and "Dream of a Lifetime" in which the Beagle Boys invade Scrooge's subconscious mind (!) and wreak havoc during dream-versions of the various "Life of Scrooge" chapters.

A suitable companion.......2007-06-29
This trade paperback collects the pre-, post-, and in-between chapters of gifted storyteller Don Rosa's The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, and it's excellent fun. Essentially Rosa uses every bit of Carl Barks-created Scrooge obscura to create a gripping adventure that is both entertaining and nuanced. All-ages material at its finest.
Actually quite good..........2007-06-02
Here Rosa presents stories hat did not fit into the original Scrooge Life and Times storyline. The stories here focus on the Yukon and Scrooges troubled relationship with Glittering Goldie. Again, Rosa departs from Barks and creates realistic three-dimensional characters, wtih real feelings and motivations. Some of these stories I cannot believe why they were not included in the original collection! Here, even Donald Duck gets an opportunity to show his (well-hidden) compassion and Scrooge finally finds redemption with Goldie. Magica de Spell is caught in a trap worthy of Barks himself.
Rosa prides himsalf with his historical accuracy, but I did find an error - Isaac Parker was the Hanging Judge, not Roy Bean.
Wonderful story from don rosa.......2007-04-04
Don Rosa made a wonderfull job, in the companion as in the main book "the Life and Times of scrooge McDuck", succeeding to bring a breathtaking story with really hilarious moments (how scrooge gained his first dime, and the story about how the boat dislocated and the piano went through the windows) ...
And most of call, considering the whole duck tales universe, it's canon !
Worth reading !

The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck confirmed Don Rosa's status as the heir apparent to the great Carl Barks as Disney's premiere comic storyteller. For this massive 12-part epic, originally printed in Uncle Scrooge 285-296 (April 1994 through February 1996), Rosa combed through Barks' stories for the many clues about what transformed Scrooge McDuck from a Scottish boy to the richest duck alive. Thus, Scrooge's comment that he fought in the "cattle wars of the old frontier" was turned into a story about the young Scrooge's cattle job in Montana. Rosa incorporates actual historical facts with known elements of the Scrooge mythology to spin an incredibly rich chronicle, full of tall tales, crazy gags, and high adventure. The 1995 Eisner winner for Best Serialized Story is even better in trade paperback format, in which Rosa offers his own memories of writing the story, "insane details to look for," and rare art. Want more of Rosa's Scrooge? The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck Companion collects other stories about the life of Scrooge that weren't in the original series. --David Horiuchi
Book Description
Don Rosa created this twelve-part story to delineate exactly how Scrooge McDuck acquired his fortune and became the World's Richest Duck. The story was originally serialized in the United States in Uncle Scrooge comics. Now it has been collected in one all-encompassing popularly-priced volume.

Great Stories, Great Art!.......2007-08-08
If you've never read (or wanted to read) Uncle Scrooge stories, thinking they're just funny animal comics, take a look at this book. You'll be surprised. This is an epic. The detail Rosa puts into these stories and illustrations is incredible. I find myself going mad, staring at covers and splash pages, seeking out the cleverly hidden D.U.C.K.s. The stories are enhanced by Rosa's "director's notes" after each story. I've never read much Uncle Scrooge before, but I'm going to seek out as much Rosa (and Barks) as I can, now.
The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck.......2007-05-14
My kids love this book! I love this book! The only reason I give it a 4 star rating instead of a 5 is because the binding is terrible. I bought 2 of these books and after a few times of handling the book, the binding pops off the cover and individual pages start falling out. Very frustrating.
Whatever can a Duck do for me?.......2007-02-04
I was fasinated by the way Don Rosa treated Carl Barks' story and yet put his own stamp on both the Duck, the clientele and history, even details of geografy like in Dawson. So it may be excused that Mississippi and Ohio are mixed a bit. All in all, if you care for Scrooge McDuck, the book is a must. If you do not care about him, be careful not to read it, you just might become a follower.
best comic series EVER!.......2007-01-16
I've been savoring every panel of this book for last few months - afraid of finishing it too soon. I'm now about 4 pages from the end of the most fantastic story - the most intensely researched - the best drawn images in comic book history ... and I will absolutely read it again and again and again.
I already have a copy of the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck Companion (also by Dan Rosa) and can't wait to dive into it.
If you've never known why comics were great - get this.
If you've grown tired of the current spandex-heavy, story-lite mainstream comics - get this.
If you ever loved cartoons or Scrooge or Donald or a great story - or history or pretend history - get this!
Better than Barks (Yes, I know that's blasphemy).......2006-09-12
Don Rosa has taken the Scrooge stories of Carl Barks and filled in all the blanks, both in story and in art. His background art is so detailed, and contains so many gags, that you have to read his stories many times to get it all.
This book is the biography of Scrooge McDuck, probably the most American comic book character ever created, even though he was born in Scotland. He is a capitalist through and through, but totally Horatio Alger. All he has he earned through his own efforts, by being "Tougher than the toughies and smarter than the smarties." Scrooge participated in every fortune-making opportunity of the late 19th century, from the South African diamond mines to the Klondike gold rush. And all these efforts are brilliantly captured in Rosa's books.

THE BEST OF THE BEST !.......2002-07-10
This huge comic album is great and is loaded with good long stories. The theme of the album is Uncle Scrooge versus his nemesis Flintheart Glomgold, the second richest duck in the world. It has four long and really good stories in it. In the first story Scrooge and his nephews go to Africa to see if Glomgold is richer than Scrooge is. Then they become involved in a fierce contest to see who is the richest duck. In the second story Scrooge and Glomgold get in another contest to see who is richer when they change all there money into silver dollars and measure the piles. But the cheating Glomgold is up to no good. The third story is safari/adventure themed with Scrooge and his nephews in the wilds of Africa trying to beat Glomgold to an important auction. And in the fourth story Scrooge and his nephews race towards the Inca gold high in the Andes so they can try to get to it before the pursuing Flintheart Glomgold can. These were very good high quality stories with better color on the pages compared to other comic albums.
very good!.......1999-11-05
What can I say.... it's Don Rosa. The best drawer Disney have had since Carl Barks. A must have for all Disney fans. Allso the more adult crowd

Gemstone's Uncle Scrooge 342 is an excellent addition for fans of Don Rosa's Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. The main tale, "The Old Castle's Other Secret, or A Letter from Home," is a modern-day follow-up to Rosa's life history of Scrooge, in which he, Donald, and Huey, Louie, and Dewey return to the old homestead, Castle McDuck, in search of the treasure of the Knights of the Templar. Filler stories include Byron Erickson and Wanda Gattino's "The Customer Is Always Wrong" (featuring Gyro Gearloose), Lars Jensen & Jack Sutter and Maria Jose Sanchez Nunez's "The Door Trap" (the Beagle Boys), and "Raven Mad," a Carl Barks classic featuring another attempt by Magica De Spell to capture Scrooge's no. 1 dime. --David Horiuchi

Excellent Don Rosa and Carl Barks stuff.......2006-06-01
In this comic book, you can read the second part of Don Rosa's two-part story about the Knight Templars and the Crusader Kings. You will also find a Carl Barks story featuring a raven exclaiming the notorious word "Nevermore", plus a couple of other short stories.
The front cover is a masterpiece by Don Rosa, coloured by Susan Daigle-Leach.
---
Uncle Scrooge, "The Old Castle's Other Secret" or "A Letter From Home"
Story & art: Don Rosa
Colour: Egmont & Susan Daigle-Leach
Lettering: Todd Klein
First I should point out that to enjoy this story to the full, you should read Don Rosa's "The Crown of the Crusader Kings", published in Uncle Scrooge No. 339. Furthermore, to get the full enjoyment of that story, you
shouldn't read this one first, because it contains some spoilers introductorily.
The second part of Don Rosa's diptych about the Crusader Kings and Scrooges search for their Templar treasures stretches over massive 36 pages, counting prologue and sum ups. Since the story is so long, it's devided into three parts, interrupted by other, shorter stories.
Scrooge, Donald and the nephews continues pursueing the footmarks of the Knight Templars. This time they're after the trasury of the Knight Templars, so they return to the old McDuck Castle in Scotland trying to find clues. Castle McDuck is taken care of by Scrooge's sister, Matilda, and she reveals that everybody in the McDuck clan always knew about the Crusader secrets - everybody except Scrooge himself. Even though there seems to be some hidden conflicts from the past between Scrooge and his sister, Matilda still guides them towards clues that could lead to the Templar treasury. But following Scrooge and his crew is the director of the international money council, Monsieur Molay and his partner Maurice Mattressface, and they try their best to snatch the treasure right in front of Scrooge's nose.
Although Don Rosa seems to have some minor issues drawing proper-sized beaks and tails, I still love his magnificant drawing style. I enjoy every little detail he manages to put into a panel (which is not a few!), and his humorous gags often make me giggle. A good example is when Donald falls down something he believes is a fiendish pitfall booby-trap made by the diabolical Templars, though it's actually something quite different. This story will keep you entertained during the entire comic book for sure, before it wraps the story up with a rather touching ending in part three.

Beagle Boys, "The Door Trap"
Story: Lars Jensen & Jack Sutter
Art: Maria Jose Sanchez Nez
Dialogue: David Gerstein
Colour: Egmont & Marie Javins
Lettering: Susie Lee
The Beagle Boys are anxious to get rid of Scrooge McDuck once and for all. The police find their secret hideout after their latest robbery, and half of the Beagle Boys (there seems to be six of them in this story) are arrested while Scrooge grinningly observes the imprisonment. The remaining three Beagle Boys concludes that they must get rid of Scrooge in some way, so they visit a fellow con, Memphis Marv. Marv sells them a door, and when somebody walks through that door, they'll be magically transported to the Gobi Desert. Now the remaining challenge is to get old McDuck to walk through that door...
This is a rather short story, only 7 pages long. The drawings and colouring are decent, and the story is ok reading material (though I didn't quite buy the fact that Scrooge gives up a fight over a quarter).
---
Gyro Gearloose, "The Customer Is Always Wrong"
Story: Byron Erickson
Art: Wanda Gattino
Colour: Egmont & Scott Rockwell
Lettering: Jon Babcock
Gyro Gearloose gets a little desperate since his workshop is filled with unconventional and wonderful inventions, but nobody is interested in trying them. They story starts out with Donald testing a leaf vacuumer, but since Donald never listens to Gyro's orders not to do a certain thing, Gyro gets mad at him. But when he realises none but Donald is willing to try out some of his untraditional inventions, he decides to give Donald a second chance.
8 pages long, this story is also adequate filling material to give the buyer more than "just" a rather long Don Rosa adventure. Gattino does a good job making Little Helper display human feelings.
---
Uncle Scrooge, "Raven Mad"
Story & art: Carl Barks
(WDC 265, Oct 1962)
Colour: Susan Daigle-Leach
I first read this story in a Norwegian Donald Duck magazine, and liked it instantly. When I found it available in the English untranslated version, I didn't hesitate to buy it so I could re-read those 10 pages of joy with the original jargon.
Donald's nephews have found a raven which can talk (it says "nevermore!"), and they've named it Randolph. In the park nearby there's a big bazaar, and Scrooge McDuck is exhibiting his number one dime, and he's asked Donald and his nephews to help him guard his rare coin. There's one person in particular the coin needs to be guarded from, and that's Magica de Spell. After a failed attempt to steal the number one dime, Magica hypnotizes the nephews' raven and orders it to snatch it for her.
---
All in all, this is a great buy if you're a Don Rosa and/or Carl Barks fan. The Don Rosa story is exciting and thrilling, and the final story by Barks is, as usual when it comes to Barks' tellings, great reading.
A Letter From Home by Don Rosa.......2005-08-08
I was asked once, about the bitter fight between Scrooge and his sisters, (see The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, by Don Rosa, chapter 11) that sent them away and out of Scrooge's life forever...what happened to the sisters?
What happened to Donald's mother is a mystery at this point, we know from the old stories that Donald was raised not by his mother Hortense (Scrooge's sister), but instead by Grandma Duck aka Elvira Coot--there is no mention of her ever past the fight between her and her brother in L&T's. However, we do know that Scrooge's other sister, married Prof. Ludwig Von Drake and than moved back to Scotland to live at the family castle, Von Drake however is rarly seen as his profession keeps him ever on tour around the world, and so with this knowledge in mind, move on to...
"The Old Castle's Other Secret...or A Letter From Home", by Don Rosa
Gemstone Uncle Scrooge #342 June 2005
This is the last or at least the current last chapter of the "Tralla-La" saga. This segment takes us back to Dismal Downs, in Scotland and a dark, somber story, that spends much of it's time in the McDuck clan cemetary, and the dungeons of Castle McDuck.
This story assumes that you have read Barks' story "The Old Castle's Secret", and has many refferances to it.
The usual gag-lines that Don Rosa is noted for, are scattered through-out this story, but it's not the gags and puns that drives this story onward----it's the sheer heart-break that Scrooge now lives in, thinking back of an earlier time when he and his sisters were a loving family, contrasted to the bitter fueding and sharp remarks that are scattered throughout as Scrooge and his sister Matilda are reunited after 25 years of not speaking to each other...we see referances to the dark day in Africa, when Scrooge burned Foola Zoola's village (L&T's chapter 11)....true to Zoola's words, it's not Bombie the Zombie that haughts Scrooge, it's his own guilt and the shame that he brought down on his family, the knowledge that he could never face his sisters after what he'd done....
Along with this there is another reason for being back in Scotland---the Templar Knight guarding the crown lost in Hati, (The Crown of the Crusader Kings, by Don Rosa) had been a McDuck, and he had been the guardian of a far greater treasure----the Holy Grail and the vast treasure vault of the Templar Knights, and hidden in the tombstones of the McDuck cemetary, are encrypted clues to the whereabouts of that vast treasure...a treasure that to Scrooge's utter horror, had been guarded by his own father, and had been know of by the entire family---but they had sworn to never tell Scrooge about it, for fear that his greed for gold, would end the family's honor entirly.
This knowledge, bears down harder than anything else that's ever happened to Scrooge, for the lesson he had only half learned in Xanadu (Return to Xanadu, by Don Rosa) finally sinks in once and for all and it is to his own horror that his greed for gold has utterly destroied whatever faith his family had in him. Only Donald and the 3 little nephews are still able to see past the greedy miser, to see the old man that seeks nothing more than the love of his family.
And yet, unknown to Scrooge and his family, is that while they are all professing they hate each other...the same spy and theif that had followed them to Hati, has stolen the crown, gone to France and stolen the Philosopher's Stone, has followed them to Scotland, and is now hiding under the window listen to their every word...and their words end in one last fit of hatred beteween Scrooge and Matilda, resulting in Scrooge storming off for the dungeons while Matila runs outside saying she's not returning to the castle until Scrooge has left Scotland, and she runs right into the waiting hand of the gun-toting spy...
No spoilers in this review, sorry. This is one of those ultra long 30 page Don Rosa stories, and what I've told you here only takes you about 15 pages in...
I'm going to say, here and now that this by-far out ranks the "Life & Times" story.... I'm not going to tell you how this "Tralla-La saga" ends...and when I get done writing this post, I'm gonna go cry my eyes out, because I do know how this story ends, and I've yet to get through reading it without a box of hankies...
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
If you want to read the entire "saga" of the story of Tralla-La, there are 5 stories that it consists of...
First of course is "Tralla-La", by Carl Barks (1955)
Next you will need to read "The Lost Crown of Genghis Khan", by Carl Barks (1956)
After this Don Rosa picks up the story with "Return to Xanadu". (1991)
Followed by "The Crown of the Crusader Kings", by Don Rosa (2005)
And currently the story has lead us to this issue here "The Old Castle's Other Secret: or A Letter From Home", by Don Rosa (2005)
We only see the ducks visiting Tralla-La twice----in Carl Barks' "Tralla-La and again in Don Rosa's "Return To Xanadu"....however, the story itself goes beyong the 2 trips to Tralla-La.
Also it's helpful if you read these 2 before starting the Tralla-La series, because the last 2 chapters do a lot of referance back to these 2 stories...
"The Old Castle's Secret" by Carl Barks 1948 (look at that date! Scrooge don't look like the Scrooge we all know in this one; this is Scrooge's second story)
"The Fablulous Philosopher's Stone", by Carl Barks
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Now I think I'm gonna go read A Letter From Home again. It's quickly becoming my favorite story. I love this story. It is by far the greatest story Don Rosa has ever written. I need to get another copy, I'm gonna wear this one out.
"A Letter From Home" goes way past 5 stars, and I don't think 10 stars are enough either....this one should get a full 100!

Excellent Don Rosa story & funny Carl Barks.......2006-06-01
In this issue you'll find a whole 28 pages long Don Rosa story about the Crusader Kings, 14 pages of Daniel Branca/Wanda Gattino goodness, and an enjoyable Barks story stretching over the final 20 pages.
The front cover is drawn by Daniel Branca and coloured by Susan Daigle-Leach.

Uncle Scrooge, "The Crown of the Crusader Kings"
Story & art: Don Rosa
Colour: Egmont & Susan Daigle-Leach
Lettering: Todd Klein
This story contains a lot of similarities to Dan Brown's The DaVinci Code, or vice versa, actually. Don Rosa's story was finished in 2001, so a couple of years before Dan Brown's bestseller was released.
The tale starts with Scrooge sobbing over the loss of his greatest treasures, like the Philosopher's Stone and the Crown of Genghis Khan. One of Donald's nephews suggests that they start searching for Khan's crown's western counterpart: "The ceremonial crown that the kings of Europe tried to send to the great Khan to symbolize their alligiance!" The nephew goes on telling that Colombus was supposed to deliver the crown, but that since America "got in his way", it never came to that. And since the crown was never returned to Spain, it must be somewhere in the west.
The hunt for Colombus' lost log books starts, and as they follow the footsteps of the Knight Templars (the first bankers), Scrooge, Donald and the nephews get in various trouble, for instance with a Haitian Voodoo tribe. This sets for a voodoo doll scene I found pretty amusing. This story also has its villains: The international money council consisting of Monsieur Molay and Maurice Mattressface. They are both very interested in finding the very same crown that Scrooge & co is after.
The story is, as mentioned, 28 pages long, and is packed with lovely Don Rosa details in every panel. Typically Don Rosa there are also a few references to old Carl Barks adventures, for instance where Scrooge is chased by Bombie the Zombie (Gladstone Comics no. 16). It's filled with action and humour, and the episode is a satisfying addendum to Don Rosa's collective work.
I should mention that this story's sequal, The Old Castle's Other Secret or A Letter from Home is printed in Uncle Scrooge #342, so check that one out as well.

Uncle Scrooge, "In Quest of the Green Hope"
Story: Daniel Branca & Wanda Gattino
Dialogue: David Gerstein
Art: Daniel Branca
Colour: Egmont & Scott Rockwell
Lettering: Willie Schubert
This is a telling about Scrooge, Donald and the nephews and their hunt for The Green Hope. The Green Hope was the ship that brought Duckburg's founder, Cornelius Coot, to the city's site. Shortly after Cornelius got off, the ship got shipwrecked in a storm, and nobody had seen it ever since. Each year since the city arranged a "Green Hope search week", and the finder of the ship gets to keep its fabled treasures. This is enough to make Scrooge start dreaming, and after a little research in books from Scrooge's library, the hunt can begin. However, most Scrooge fairy-tales are far from straight on easy. It turns out an old Nemesis of Scrooge is also interested in finding Green Hope and its long lost treasure.
"In Quest of the Green Hope" could remind you of the good old Carl Barks stories, featuring Scrooge, Donald and his nephews adventuring and hunting for lost treasures (albeit I prefer the more exotic locations Barks often used).

Uncle Scrooge, "The Great Wig Mystery"
Story & art: Carl Barks
(US #52, Sept 1964)
Colour: Dummer Hinton
Here's a classic Carl Barks story, not published in a comic book since 1978.
Wigs is the new fashion in Duckburg, the bigger, the better. Everybody loves wigs, all the girls wear wigs, and one person earns fat money on their desire for wigs: Scrooge McDuck. He flies them in from Europe, but one time a wig covers his eyes during landing, and he crashes on the runway. A slick fast-talker named Scalpnick pretends Scrooge crashed his plane onto him, and therefore he sues the poor old interminabillionaire. Donald, the only witness to the crash landing, is hired by the same Mr. Scalpnick to fly to a country called Wiggie Ziggie, but is doesn't seem to exist a country by that name. Evidently Donald's flying job is just a trick from Scalpnick to get him away from the upcoming trial.
Carl Barks presents us this witty and amusing story with great drawings and a large amount of thrills and humour. I hadn't read this story before when I bought the comic, and it certainly was 20 pages of swell reading which gave me a large portion of giggling.
---
If you get this magazine, I believe you'll be greatly entertained by the long Don Rosa story as well as the nostalgic Carl Barks telling, so this comic book is well recommended.
Don Rosa wins again........2005-04-07
This beeing a story I hadn't read and Don Rosa beeing my favorit Duck writer, I thought this would be a grate buy since I live in Iceland and his stories are hard to come by here.
And how right I was. This issue contains "the crown of the crussaid king" and two other stories (not by Don Rosa) in fine artwork and print, much better than the normal comic issues i'm used to where I come from.:o)
So if you are a Rosa fan this is a good purchase.
