Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I am dreaming of maple syrup.......2007-10-08

I just finished a 30 plus day cleanse. All I had was a brew of maple syrup, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and water. The hardest part of the cleanse was not hunger. What I found hardest was the monotony of the above mentioned beverage. For the first 10 days it tasted fine. For the next 10 days it tasted less fine. For the 10 days after that it tasted horrible.

Why did I do the cleanse in the first place? I have bladder cancer. And as anybody knows who has cancer, there is no shortage of suggestions about how to cure cancer. Suggestions come from friends, family members, casual acquaintances, and even total strangers who overhear conversations. The suggestions range from the helpfully obvious, such as, "You should probably not make Doritos the mainstay of your diet," to the near cruel, "If you loved yourself more, you would be cured."

Now, before I continue, I want anyone who has read this far to know that I posted this review in my blog also. One of the reasons I am writing reviews is because it was suggested as a good way to market my book, "Letters to My Friends: A No Guarantees Guide to Awakening." I want to make every keystroke, so to speak, count. One thing I have learned from cancer is to make each move count. There may be no tomorrow. Also, I believe in full disclosure.

Anyway, like many people with cancer, I tend not to talk about it because I get tired of the suggestions. But two friends of mine repeatedly suggested this cleanse. They are both advocates of alternative healing. And, even though I find myself excusing myself to run urgent errands whenever they talk about my eating habits, I love and respect them both.

What sold me on the cleanse was what one of my friends said. We were driving in the car in the mountains near her home, chatting about this and that. Suddenly the tone of her voice changed, and I knew I would hear something about a healthy lifestyle. "That cleanse we were talking about the other day, your body will begin to digest itself, and the theory is that the cancer cells will be digested, literally."

She had me. I am not a scientist. But that made sense. I had pretty much decided that Bill must die, Bill being the cancer. So, off I went on the cleanse, pretty much feeling like an old-west, quasi-Buddhist gunslinger. My body wasn't big enough for me and the cancer. One of us had to go. Either I would starve or the cancer would starve. By day 20, people were really beginning to be impressed. By day 30, I was being deified. But, honestly, it wasn't that hard. I'm sure that those fellows who climbed that little mountain felt the same way. Mt Everest, I think it was.

I had been aiming for 40 days, but I quit on day 33. And the reason I quit was because I found my 40-day goal becoming a little bit of an obsession. To quit, believe it or not, took much more will than to continue. As I said, I am a quasi-Buddhist, if there is such a thing, and I practice relinquishing strong attachments. I am, as a rule, much happier when I am not ruled by my attachments. And the cleanse was quickly becoming my master. I was no longer doing the cleanse; it was doing me.

You can find many variations of The Master Cleanse, usually for sale, on the internet. My own advice is to listen to your body. Do not get stubborn. On the other hand, the first three days really is the hardest; although, day 29 was hard too. The key is to drink plenty of lemonade, as it is called, because it will keep you from getting hungry. If you're worried about doing something so drastic, then see your doctor. But do not be surprised if your doctor looks at you as though you are a new age, hippie, weirdo when you mention The Master Cleanse. When I investigated this cleanse on the internet, I found only negative comments about it from the medical establishment.

But, as my mother used to say, "The proof is in the pudding." Is the cancer gone? I do not know. Nor, will I until my next exam. But I know I lost weight, a lot of weight. And I know I have more energy than I have had in a long, long time. I feel great. I'm planning on doing it again soon. But first I need to implement a healthy diet of vegetables, fruits, nuts, and Doritos. And for some reason I want some pudding. Maybe chocolate pudding. Or maybe custard. How about rice pudding?

Blessings,

John C. Conley

5 out of 5 stars Great health book.......2007-10-01

I felt great putting this into practice but I was still hungry. However, I did notice I had a lot more energy. The lemonade tastes awesome.

5 out of 5 stars The Master Cleanser.......2007-09-11

The Master Cleanser Diet information is an excellent source for promotion of good health and feeling good. I highly recommend this boook to everyone. The diet is simple and easy to follow.

5 out of 5 stars Great results.......2007-09-10

I've been on this program for over a week now and feel great! Not to mention that I've lost a lot of weight, althoug that could only be temporary... My skin seems to be smoother and I have the great feeling of being light and well. I must say that it can be difficult to stay on the program and it requires a lot of will power.

I do like the taste of cayenne pepper in my drinks. It makes them more pleasant to swallow ... If you know someone with a serious disease or addiction make them try this program -- it should bring good results. You will be surprised! Another really GREAT book with all kind of internal cleansing methods is "Can We Live 150 Years?". In fact these two books should be sold in one package.

1 out of 5 stars Why is it taboo to criticize this book?.......2007-09-10

I've run into a number of people spurred by the promise of quick weight loss or the belief that they're infested with "toxins" to try this radical "diet." What's astonishing to me is how disinclined people have been so far to question how this motley array of kitchen detritus -- water, lemons, maple syrup and cayenne pepper -- came to assemble itself, or how this perplexing combination of ingredients is specifically supposed to flush out these supposed "toxins."

Reading the book, my first reaction was to wonder how such a text has gotten as far as it has. It only makes sense when I consider my anecdotal experience that it's really the recipe that has travelled far and wide, while the rambling explanation behind it has, to its benefit, remained rather obscure. The author of this terse manifesto of folk medicine wastes no time in proclaiming that his peculiar lemonade (it may have more aptly been Kool-Aid) will cure any disease. He further proclaims, without evidence, that all germs are "our friends," that fungi help us rid our bodies of "toxins," and that asking for the blessing of a meal will raise its "vibrations." Other claims are very easily checked, and should smell fishy even to the casual observer: that lemons and maple syrup provide all the nutrition you need is but one example.

Practitioners of this "diet" flutter with amazement at the results, vindicated that their weight loss that has confirmed the validity of the science behind it: as if there is somehow a correct way to starve yourself.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Best Investment in NCE Prep.......2007-10-09

I bought it all -- the expensive review books, the large set of CDs, the flash cards, online practice exams -- and paid a fortune for it all. This book is the best tool available. (Sorry I bought it last!) It is the most useful tool because it provides 1,000 practice questions with complete explanations as to why the correct answer is correct, and why the other answers are incorrect. The net effect is that you review a lot of material, and you review it multiple times. Easy book to read. Also, the author provides a bunch of memorization tips for critical information. This is the book to buy, forget the other stuff.

5 out of 5 stars Easy way to review.......2007-10-01

I am finding this book a great way to review. It is easy to understand as the author explains each question and answer. With a tight schedule, this book can be read for just a few minutes at a time without losing the flow of the content.

5 out of 5 stars Good Review.......2007-08-31

This study guide covers many aspects of counseling that were either not covered or quickly taught in my counseling classes. It also does a wonderful job of reinforcing the ideas that were taught in class. This book is written in a wonderfully informative and entertaining style. I have not yet taken my exam but am confident that with all the information discussed in the book I should do very well on the exam.

4 out of 5 stars Comprehensive review and tutorial!.......2007-08-14

My recommendation of this book is based mainly on my test scores. Using only Rosenthal's book as a study guide, I passed the NCE with flying colors. It is easy to use and extremely helpful.

4 out of 5 stars Good resource for NCE exam.......2007-08-09

I would recommend this book for anyone taking the NCE exam. I recently passed the NCE exam along with two of my co-workers. This text is a great starting point for anyone studying for the NCE, but I would recommend going into more depth then just studying from Rosenthal's book. The book sets the groundwork for what the test looks likes and feels like, but the actual NCE questions are alot harder and more specific then what Rosenthal provides. I would recommend finding texts in career counseling, research methods, and stats and becoming fimilar with all the basic concepts. Combining Rothenthal's book with texts cited above seems to be the recipe for success

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars THE best book on trading I have ever read........2007-09-09

I had to get this book after reading such a mix of reviews. I was really curious how it would turn out since reviewers were either raving about it or trashing it.

After reading the 1st half of this book I was shocked to say the least. The first half of this book is worth more than all of the books I have read on trading combined. If someone trashes this book then they are either very new to trading and don't understand the points being made in this book(which I can understand because you have to get some experience under your belt to really appreciate what is being said in this book) or they are looking for a quick strategy they can read in 5 minutes and start making money. For one thing, that's never going to happen anyway.

The trading strategies in this book are very basic, so for newbies that part of the book has some good info. I was hoping for a little more advanced analysis of trading techniques, but I really didn't need that anyway. The knowledge and wisdom in the first half of this book is going to take my trading to moon.

For the newbies who didn't like this book, get a couple years experience under your belts then go back to this book and re-read the 1st half. I guarantee you, you will want to come back here and write a positive review.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting book with lack in details by very self-confident authors.......2007-06-09

When I started reading the book by Oliver Velez and Greg Capra: "Tools and Tactics for the Master Day Trader", I thought it was one of the better books on day trading. It starts out with the importance of discipline, and the lessons to be learnt from losses. It also outlines the concept that you don't buy from the market, but there is always another person on the other side of the trade that has exactly the opposite market expectation as you.

Then come four chapters with lists of rules: 7 deadly sins, 12 trading laws of success, 15 things every trader should know, and 10 lessons for the master trader. Altogether 44 rules, which don't seem to be in any systematic order. It looks like the authors were brainstorming to come up with as many rules as they could think of, and then divided them up among the four chapters. Some rules contradict one another, some important rules are next to irrelevant ones etc. Also the "Seed of Wisdom" does not help to sum up the rules because it often is not related to the part that it is supposed to summarize.

In Chapter 10 and 11 the authors talk about tools and start out by explaining things as basic as a candle stick or support and resistance. Then they dedicate two chapters to Order Systems and Level II data, and it takes until page 293 when they finally talk about trading techniques.

After having talked redundantly about general things for three quarters of the book, the authors give their ideas of entry, stop and exit techniques. What I missed most in this part is the lack of exact trading rules. Everything is expressed vaguely (e.g. p.219 "you can also opt to keep the break-even stop. This is a matter of choice." or p.322 "Sell at least half your stock if and when the stock breaks below the 5-minute low. ... These are just guidelines. We don't want to be stupid. ... Many traders will be best served selling the whole lot at this point."). This is exactly the vagueness you can't afford as a day trader. I was also disappointed that there was so little variety in the trade setups (just three entry techniques).

So my hope was high that in chapter 17 "How to put it all together" there would finally be concrete entry and exit descriptions. Instead, the authors just describe common chart formations like any other book on technical analysis (and do a worse job, too).

Throughout the book I noted an arrogant tone (p. 317: "Let's assume a master trader, let's call him Mr. Velez."). The authors speak about master traders, as if they were some kind of rock stars. No matter, how successful you are, if you quit being humble, the market can easily take everything away from you.

I am giving the book three stars because it does cover important topics for day traders like discipline, and learning from your mistakes. If you want to read a more effective book, however, I recommend the one by John F. Carter "Mastering the Trade".

4 out of 5 stars Seeds of Wisdom!.......2007-05-18

Tools and Tactics for the Master DayTrader: Battle-Tested Techniques for Day, Swing, and Position Traders.

Velez and Capra give me the impression they have traded before and are not just book writer's. You can learn a few pointer's from this book whether you are a rookie or have been trading a while. It covers Candlesticks,Moving Averages, Fibs, Volume and drawing a few trendlines on the charts intraday and daily charts.
It does not go into some of the mathematical stock indicators that some trader's think it might be the "Holy Grail". Sorry, there is no Holy Grail in the stock market you better look elsewhere like yourself. The only "Holy Grail" you will ever find trading stocks is yourself there is no quick fixes to learn to trade stocks it all takes lots of time and practice.
Its to look and observe what a chart's footprints tell you with some seeds of wisdom.
I see so many negative reviews here about this books. I am starting to wonder whether those reader's have ever traded stocks.
I have traded full-time for years and I can tell you they must be all novice trader's hoping that a book might have all the answer's for them and their future. It would help them if they read this book a few times until it sinks in their minds.

2 out of 5 stars Nothing new.......2007-04-18

nothing new, nothing exciting. Everything can be found in books that are half the price. Save your money.

5 out of 5 stars FIVE STARS!!!.......2007-02-27

I would definitely give this book five stars. I really learned alot from it. If you gave it a bad review you either need to go back and read the book again or just skimmed through the book.

and to the person who sid that he "Heard" that they don't actually trade they are wrong and I thought everyone knew not always to believe what they hear. But hey, some people just believe things more easily than others.
and you can't even RATE this book one star because YOU HAVEN'T ACTUALLY READ IT!!!
You skimmed through the book and rate it one star??? WOW. that's all I have to say: wow. I'm not even going to say anything else. and people don't listen to all of those bad revievs out there. It really was a great book and is worth the money. (and so is his newer book)

and to the person who said: "This book TOTALLY rocked. I read it alot because it was so awesome"

YOU TOTTALY ROCK TOO! LOL!

1 out of 5 stars Diassapointment.......2007-06-05

I hate to write such a negative review but i read the first 5 volumes before giving up on the sixth. I broke a cardinal personal rule of never giving up on books. The first volume was OK and each slowly got worst. I wanted to learn about Buddhism, not how a young man the author met was actually 1000 years old and other nonsense.

Please read any books by the Dalai Lama or Thich Nhat Han.

2 out of 5 stars The Master Key System.......2007-10-06

The principles are great. However, it was not as logically thought out as I had anticipated. Not well written.

5 out of 5 stars Master Key.......2007-10-03

Excellent Book!
The best I've read in a long time...The newer ones are just saying what this said over 80 years ago...
Something you have to stick with...Kind of like workingout....

4 out of 5 stars Stuck Between Parallel Dimentions.......2007-09-06

I am currently suspended between two parallel dimentions aparently in a very deep meditation induced trance. This is a great way to escape the turmoil of the times. Only one chapter did this to me. One can only guess what will happen upon finishing the book. Let me sleep a while! A very good book and investment.

4 out of 5 stars Mastering Key Systems.......2007-09-02

The work describes mind/body connections and classic philosophical universals . For instance, the mind perceives via intuition. The unconscious is the seat of principles and aspirations. A strength of the
work is that the establishment of mind/body connectivity may help to
control such things as depression, pain and chronic disease symptoms.

Non-resistance thought and pleasant thoughts enhance the solar plexis;
whereas, resistance thoughts detract from it. The "I" consists of physical traits, thinking processes and the world within. Thoughts plus a defined purpose will equal knowledge application. Possession consists of internalized values/notions by the mind together with attitude.

The work provides interesting discussion on popular philosophical notions
and popular psychology. It would be interesting to a wide constituency
of readers; however, the work tends to be theoretical in nature.
It is not simple "belles lettres" reading.

4 out of 5 stars A must have for spiritual people..........2007-08-29

I love the product, but dislike the third party processing. All the cds are copies, so when I upload to my ipod, I had to identify each track.

Its not work the few dollars saved by going through a third party unless originality is irrelevant.

Psychiatry and metaphysics blend together in this fascinating book based on a true case history. Dr. Weiss, who was once firmly entrenched in a clinical approach to psychiatry, finds himself reluctantly drawn into past-life therapy when a hypnotized client suddenly reveals details of her previous lives. During one hypnosis session his client introduces the spirit guides who have been her soul therapists in between lives. This is when the story really takes off for Weiss, who discovers that these guides have specific messages about his dead son as well as Weiss's mission in life. No, we cannot verify the truth of this story using the limited scientific tools we have available. However, it is hard to dispute that this well-respected graduate of Columbia University and Yale Medical School has discovered a personal truth that has led him to be an enormously popular speaker, author, and leader in the field of past-life therapy. --Gail Hudson

Book Description

As a traditional psychotherapist, Dr. Brian Weiss was astonished and skeptical when one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares and anxiety attacks. His skepticism was eroded, however, when she began to channel messages from the "space between lives," which contained remarkable revelations about Dr. Weiss' family and his dead son. Using past-life therapy, he was able to cure the patient and embark on a new, more meaningful phase of his own career.

5 out of 5 stars Absolute BEST book I have ever read, period........2007-10-07

Fantastic book! I have given away 10+ copies of this book and each person has been blow away by the content. We would all be better people if we take this information to heart and lead a clean, honest life.

5 out of 5 stars Many Lives Many Masters.......2007-10-04

I am very satisfied with this book on tape! I do past life regression for my clients and it's really nice to have an expert in the field that I can learn more from.

4 out of 5 stars Many Lives, Many Masters.......2007-09-23

It was not so much the regressions into the past lives but the "rest periods" that interested me. The emphasis on teaching and helping spirits learn to change their flawed characters, in preparation for their next lives, confirmed some theories I had. From observation of spirit visits I know there are at least two laws: If you tell unwanted visitors to go away, they must obey. And they do not speak to us living. They do speak among themselves. My husband's spirit visits me at least twice a day. I talk to him but he cannot respond. If he could, I would have everything out of him in ten minutes because there is so much I want to know about the afterlife, and it must remain a mystery. Why, I do not know. He did answer one question: I asked how he was, and he wagged his hand in the comme si, comme ca gesture. According to Brian L. Weiss, Masters help those who are in need of guidance. Perhaps that is what my husband is doing, though I dare not presume he is on a high plane. Still, I might add one more facet to Weiss's thesis. Other, more evolved, spirits and not necessarily Masters, also teach. My husband brings home other spirits, some very primitive types who were probably clueless in life. I know he has befriended them. I found confirmation of my thoughts in Dr. Weiss's book.

3 out of 5 stars Good reading...but I had some problems.......2007-09-23

First I "read" this book via an audio book version. I think Dr. Weiss is totally believable in his honest search to help Catherine. I think his approach will open many minds to explore or widen their religion/spiritual belief systems. Although I have some problems with some details contained in the book, I do think he has been a great help to those who are dying & their families.

The issues that I had problems with: 1. The MALE voice of the Masters...do
the "learned" ones always have to be male!! Perhaps the Masters used a male voice since they told him they were channeling their knowledge for him & not Catherine. With his cultural & belief system, a male voice would be more effective for him to consider the teachings. BUT not for me!! I would be more apt to listen a little more closely to a FEMALE Master; 2. the term "god" is mentioned 2-3 times toward the end of the book...It just seems like it should have been introduced earlier to me and 3. There is no mention of "WHO" or "WHAT" conceived Reincarnation plus its level system. I found that a big omission.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous Insight & Resource.......2007-09-09

This book has been invaluable to me over the years and I've read it time and again. Weiss lets us into the "inner circle" of therapy and shows us how ordinary people can experience physical and emotional pain from unresolved issues in another lifetime. Read this book and you will never look at your life and challenges in the same way again. It provides hope and courage and is a must-read for anyone seeking wholeness and understanding. Many Masters, Many Lives gave me the insight essential to my own novels of karma and past lives, in particular Field of Destiny.

Book Description

Masters of the Air is the deeply personal story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler's doorstep. With the narrative power of fiction, Donald Miller takes readers on a harrowing ride through the fire-filled skies over Berlin, Hanover, and Dresden and describes the terrible cost of bombing for the German people.

Fighting at 25,000 feet in thin, freezing air that no warriors had ever encountered before, bomber crews battled new kinds of assaults on body and mind. Air combat was deadly but intermittent: periods of inactivity and anxiety were followed by short bursts of fire and fear. Unlike infantrymen, bomber boys slept on clean sheets, drank beer in local pubs, and danced to the swing music of Glenn Miller's Air Force band, which toured U.S. air bases in England. But they had a much greater chance of dying than ground soldiers. In 1943, an American bomber crewman stood only a one-in-five chance of surviving his tour of duty, twenty-five missions. The Eighth Air Force lost more men in the war than the U.S. Marine Corps.

The bomber crews were an elite group of warriors who were a microcosm of America -- white America, anyway. (African-Americans could not serve in the Eighth Air Force except in a support capacity.) The actor Jimmy Stewart was a bomber boy, and so was the "King of Hollywood," Clark Gable. And the air war was filmed by Oscar-winning director William Wyler and covered by reporters like Andy Rooney and Walter Cronkite, all of whom flew combat missions with the men.

The Anglo-American bombing campaign against Nazi Germany was the longest military campaign of World War II, a war within a war. Until Allied soldiers crossed into Germany in the final months of the war, it was the only battle fought inside the German homeland.

Strategic bombing did not win the war, but the war could not have been won without it. American

airpower destroyed the rail facilities and oil refineries that supplied the German war machine. The bombing campaign was a shared enterprise: the British flew under the cover of night while American bombers attacked by day, a technique that British commanders thought was suicidal.

Masters of the Air is a story, as well, of life in wartime England and in the German prison camps, where tens of thousands of airmen spent part of the war. It ends with a vivid description of the grisly hunger marches captured airmen were forced to make near the end of the war through the country their bombs destroyed.

Drawn from recent interviews, oral histories, and American, British, German, and other archives, Masters of the Air is an authoritative, deeply moving account of the world's first and only bomber war.

A marvelous story about the WW II air war over Europe. Full of interesting details and descriptions. I have shared it with friends that did their 35 missions, and they concur.

5 out of 5 stars The Story of the "Mighty Eighth".......2007-09-08

This well-written and exhaustively researched book chronicles the rise of the American Eighth Air Force from its early days in England to VE Day in 1945.

At the outset of the war, the British believed that night bombing was the best way to attack German cities and industry. However, once America entered the war, they chose a philosophy different from that of the British. The Americans believed that daylight precision strategic bombing was the only way to defeat the Germans. The British, on the other hand, still favored nighttime area bombing. This difference of opinion between the Americans and British was never really settled, but by combining the "round the clock" attacks of American planes during the day and British planes at night, the Germans faced an unending stream of planes and bombs.

When the Eighth flew their first mission in the fall of 1942, they could barely muster thirty planes, but at the end of the war, they were putting up well over one thousand, with several hundred fighter escorts as well. The German Luftwaffe could not match these incredible numbers of planes, and, despite such tactics as underground production and introducing the world's first jet fighter, there was little they could do to stop the Allied bombing.

Differences also existed between the British and Americans regarding target selection. The British favored carpet bombing Germany's cities with little or no regard for civilian casualties. The Americans favored targeting German industry (synthetic oil production, ball bearings, and transportation hubs). The Americans believed that the systematic destruction of the German economy would bring about surrender quicker than the British belief of "terror attacks" designed to break the will of the German people.

An interesting point made by the author is whether or not strategic bombing was effective against the Germans. A preponderance of the evidence would suggest that the answer to this question is "yes", but there are some compelling counter-points made in the book.

This is a fine work of aviation history. The book is well-researched and is easy to read and understand. Every aspect of the Allied bomber offensive in Europe is covered in great detail. The author also includes many personal testimonials from the men who flew the B-17s and B-24s against the Germans. An interesting chapter is also devoted to the Swiss government and how they treated "captured" Allied fliers. The terrifying incendiary raid on Dresden as well as the horrific destruction of Berlin is also told in vivid detail.

I give this fine book my highest recommendation. If you're looking for information on the Eighth Air Force and the air war over Europe, this is the book to read.

4 out of 5 stars Does anyone at Simon & Schuster proofread?.......2007-09-04

Mr. Miller's book includes not only substantial research into prior publications but very interesting research based on letters and interviews he's found on his own. It's a good book. But if you're a member of the word police you'll be annoyed by the many proofreading errors. Here's a sample: "In the heavily defended Ruhr, with its permanent cloud of industrial smoke, the number was only in ten." (p.54) Should have been "within ten miles." Some errors are so simple a spell checker would have caught them: (p.199) "spining" for spinning. And there are some factual errors as well. Miller attributes contrails to wingtips. They're created by engines. It's much easier to criticize than to write. Still, S&S should have, with the several editors listed in the acknowledgments, caught the errors. I have no idea whether they have been corrected in the paperback.

5 out of 5 stars The Unsung Heroes of The Eighth Air Force.......2007-08-26

This is an overdue tribute to those young men who gave their lives, in great numbers, fighting the air war over Germany in WWII.To those who think WWII was fought without major tatical errors, this book will be a revelation. In tribute to the kids who lost their lives in this bloody effort, everyone should be required to read this story. If you thought that service in the Air Force was a cake walk read this book.

TRULY AN AMAZINGLY DETAILED ACCOUNT OF THE AIR WAR IN EUROPE!! MANY FACTS NEVER HEARD BEFORE! THESE BOMBER BOYS WERE TRUE HEROES.

In The Four Agreements, Mexican shaman Miquel Ruiz built his teachings around four agreements: be impeccable with your word; don't take anything personally; don't make assumptions; always do your best. Now Ruiz offers readers a companion guide, making practical mysticism out of the ancient Toltec tradition. On the one hand this is an eloquent introduction to Toltec teachings, offering a fascinating discussion of how one's life is a dream (and a dream that's often dictated by others) and how "domestication" is the root of human suffering. On the other hand don Miquel has also written a Toltec self-help book, offering specific tools, exercises, and suggestions to help readers live their own dreams, become more attentive, and make conscious agreements with themselves. For readers who feel aligned with the Toltec tradition, this will certainly be a powerful ally as they begin the dream of transformation. --Gail Hudson

1 out of 5 stars Overkill.......2007-07-02

While I absolutely love the four agreements and return to the original book often, I found the companion book to be completely unnecessary. The writing style was poor and rambled in circles, constantly repeating itself. There was no new information at all. I seemed to me to be a way to get a little more money out of the concept - shocking considering the author.

I did enjoy the last few pages of personal examples from people who had incorporated the four agreements into their lives.

If you have the four agreements original book, you don't need this one and if you don't then skip this one and get the original.

5 out of 5 stars Live life by the 4 agreements.......2007-05-14

My life was simplified by reading this book. It is a daily guide for me and my children now. Ruiz is a healer and a spiritual guide. Recommended for all ages.

5 out of 5 stars A Practical Guide to Help Us Decode Our Emotional Garbage.......2004-08-26

After reading The Four Agreements, I felt that it is great to learn the four agreements ¡V be impeccable with your word, don¡¦t take anything personally, don¡¦t make assumptions and always try your best. However, that book did not have enough practical ideas or skills to guide me decode our old agreements/emotional garbage, how to be aware and how to transform. This book has a practical guide to teach us how to live in the four agreements. It teaches us how to become aware and how to transform.

1. Bring the Awareness to Surface so We Can Let Go of the Parasites, the Old Agreement, the Judge, the Victim, the fear

2. How to transform by the second attention (become aware and not act on or judge too fast), action-reaction, attach-detach

Don Miguel Ruiz has a very playful style of writing when he was telling us the above skills. I think in essence, the above skills suggests us to slow down our thinking process to give us enough time to steer our feelings and actions to apply the four agreements and to enjoy life intensely within the moment. His dialogue about the four agreements and other people¡¦s stories about applying the four agreements give me hope that I can live my life with what he has suggested. The dialogue helps us to decode certain emotional garbage and the dialogue helps me to break the old agreements. It is definitely a must-read if you have read the four agreements. Again, reading is not enough. However, putting the new adopted philosophies into everyday¡¦s life is the way to turn the dream of hell to become the dream of heaven.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have!.......2003-01-17

Anyone who has read his first book will definitely want to read this one as well. This book actually helps the reader to implement the Four Agreements into daily life. Very insightful and I wish I had read it forty years ago!

Book Description

When The Master Key System was first released circa 1916, it created quite a stir. It was supposedly banned by some groups and rumours abounded about it influencing some of the most wealthy and powerful people in the world.

Master Key Arcana contains a wealth of new writings by Charles F. Haanel and others, some of which were "lost" as time passed. It is the perfect companion for those who have read The Master Key System. It is also a wonderful introduction to what many consider to be the best book ever written on the powers of the mind and how to attain your goals, dreams, and desires.

Included in this handy and illuminating tome are:
* a unique psychological chart to help assess where you stand and how you can improve.
* writings about The Master Key System to help you better understand Haanel and his ideas.
* writings that influenced Mr. Haanel, such as Judge Thomas Troward and Henry Drummond.
* images of Haanel's original and now rare correspondence courses. and
* the "lost" parts of The Master Key System, published for the first time in over sixty years!

Master Key Arcana is a wonderful look at the influences of The Master Key System, how it influenced others, and how to best utilize it to attain your full potential. The "lost" parts are worth the price of admission alone. The results of reading this book, though, are priceless.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Hard to read.......2007-05-30

While I thought this book was great with the extra research and info done on the Master Key System... the font's and typography is horrible. It's very hard to read and some pages were completely faded. Basically it is just a bunch of copied text reprinted. I would have loved to see this information rewritten not just scanned and copied.

5 out of 5 stars A must-have companion to the brilliant Master Key System book.......2006-07-31

The Master Key System is definitely among my top ten books describing the ways to truly take charge of my own power to create.

So it was a done deal when I found out about this addition - Arcana.

There's a lot of value in this relatively slim book: Not only the missing parts to the Master Key, but also excerpts of related writings by Thomas Troward ( parts of the outstanding Dore Lectures on Mental Science ), Henry Drummond, James Allen.

My favorite of course, though, is what Haanel himself had to add. He seemed so ahead of his time.

It includes something called the "Psychological Chart" from Haanel.

The photocopies of the original advertisement for the Master Key System are a nice addition, as well. The original early 1900 images include instruction sheets, and letters describing the benefits.

5 out of 5 stars The Other Boot Has Finally Dropped!.......2004-09-23

With Tony Michalski's publication of Master Key Arcana, there is closure to the earlier "The Master Key", by Charles F. Haanel, with an incentive for further exploration. Readers who profit from, and are inspired by Haanel's works may also enjoy and profit from the workshops, seminars, books, cd's, etc. of Dr.Wayne Dyer. Dr. Dyer is not alone. He seems to be signaling a renaissance in our time similar to the one that burgeoned forth in Haanel's era. Authors like James Allen, William Walker Atkinson, Marsden, Troward, Drummond and other prolific authors, too numerous the cite were calling their readers attention to the primacy of the spirit in things material.

In this new volume a deeper understanding of Haanel's ideas is rounded out with the final Parts 25 to 28. Readers of The Master Key who may have sensed a certain "unfinished" quality are now finally satisfied. Also included in this volume is an excellent 3-part summary of The Master Key in Haanel's own words. The Master Key Psychological Chart is (with a few adjustments) still useful. The history buff and antiquarian will enjoy the Images of Original Material complete with pictures which concludes this eminently practical and inspiring sequel to Charles Haanel's The Master Key.

This is yet another stimulating and thought-provoking publication from Kallisti Publishing. It's a good read, too; and a book well worthy to merit many dog-eared pages.

5 out of 5 stars A great addition to the Master Key System.......2004-08-17

The original Master Key System is revolutionizing my life, so I jumped at the chance to read this new book. It contains the lost part of the MKS as well as additional material that expands and enhances the ideas presented in the original. The lost material is amazing! It really completes the MKS and adds so much. I completely recommend the Master Key Arcana to anyone who wants to improve their life.

4 out of 5 stars Good Primer for Marketing People.......2007-10-10

This is a good fundamental description of different marketing measurments. These metrics used to be taught to people in the business as they worked their way up the ranks. Unfortunately, today there is virtually no marketing training being done at most organizations. This book can help those people who want to know how to look at a marketing from a more analytical basis and do a better job at managing the marketing for their company. I have already given it to two clients to help them do their job better.

5 out of 5 stars Carry This Book with You.......2007-10-01

If a marketer really wants to be a good business person, then they should carry this book with them. I dislike hearing recent graduates say "Buy One Get One Free" when asked for promotion ideas. If you understand the financial consequences of that type of promotion then it's OK to suggest it. But the point is this book helps you think about the many types of measurements. At one point in my career I had three Product Managers work for me. This book would have been one that I insisted they read.

4 out of 5 stars Is it Really About Metrics..But There's More To it Than That.......2007-09-05

I think this book is an important tool in terms of measuring marketing and trying to ensure that you have the opportunity to understand your marketing outreach.

I also liked the newly released book, "Value Acceleration" by Mitchell Gooze and Ralph Mroz and think it should serve as a companion to this book in terms of truly identifying how marketing and sales can successfully work together and in terms of lean process, keeping the global competitive edge way beyond metrics.Value Acceleration: The Secrets to Building an Unbeatable Competitive Advantage

5 out of 5 stars Looks great.......2007-07-05

It's still early to rate as I just got the book, but it's definitely valuable.

5 out of 5 stars Whatever is most important can, indeed must be measured...accurately and consistently........2007-05-09

Obviously, it is highly desirable to measure what matters and that is especially true of marketing initiatives. Here's the challenge which many (most?) readers will face after they finish reading this volume: Which metrics are the most appropriate for their specific organization? Co-authors Paul W. Farris, Neil T. Bendle, Phillip E. Pfeifer, and David J. Reibstein offer 50+ and in an ideal business world, every executive can - and will - master all of them. That is possible but highly unlikely. Fortunately, the authors offer a wealth of information and observations that can guide and inform the selection of those metrics that will enable executives to "gather and analyze basic market data, measure the core factors that drive their business models, analyze the profitability of individual customer accounts, and optimize resource allocation among increasingly fragmented media.

To the authors' substantial credit, they make effective use of a number of reader-friendly devices which enliven what would be an otherwise dull textbook and they do without compromising the integrity of research-driven insights which so many books on marketing lack. These devices include definitions, formulas, and brief descriptions of various metrics. They also include within individual chapters several sections, such as "Construction" (e.g. metrics issues concerning their formulation, application, interpretation, and strategic ramifications), "Data Sources, "Complications, and Cautions" (i.e. an analysis of the limitations of the metrics under consideration, and their potential inadequacies once executed), and "Related Metrics and Concepts" (briefly surveyed). This is by no means an "easy read" but will generously reward those who absorb and digest its material with appropriate rigor.

Although I believe this volume can be of substantial value to executives in almost all organizations (regardless of size or nature), I think it will be of greatest benefit to those - probably in larger companies -- who have an urgent need for accurate and consistent measurement of, for example, the dynamics behind their market share; the profitability of producing, pricing, selling, distributing, and servicing what they offer; and the ROI of marketing initiatives within the framework of enterprise financial metrics.

Those who share my high regard for this volume are urged to check out Enterprise Architecture As Strategy: Creating a Foundation for Business Execution by Jeanne W.
