4 out of 5 stars Perfect Ending to Trilogy.......2007-08-29

Younger sister Julianna gets her own story in the last installment of the Sterling siblings series after Sebastian and Justin's stories, Perfect Bride and Perfect Groom. Four years ago, Julianna was left at the altar and vowed never to trust a man and never to marry. On her way to her home in Bath, Julianna's coach is overtaken by the notorious highwayman the Magpie and when Julianna is injured in the coach's crash, the Magpie takes her to his cabin to recover. When the tables get turned and Julianna shoots and almost kills him, she finds she cannot leave him alone and decides to stay and tend his wound. The Magpie is actually Viscount Dane Gransville who is a spy for the crown. He is posing as a highwayman trying to catch a master counterfitter. Off guard by his attraction to the lovely Julia, she shoots him but when she stays to take care of him his heart is completely lost. When the Magpie lets Julianna go and returns her home, she spends the following weeks pining for a love that she's lost, when a chance encounter leads her to her love's true identity what will happen?

This was definitely the best of the series and I loved Julianna's strong character and Dane's personality. Good book.

2 out of 5 stars big YAWN.......2005-09-13

This was a dud.
Personally, I don't think that I would be caught dead with anyone called "the Magpie". It makes me think of annoying squawks that they make and road kill. And a man that would call himself that, no matter what his intent may be, is a huge dork in my eyes.
Also, this chick has got some serious issues. And I don't want to read about them. She feels sorry for herself the entire book and Dane takes pity on her. What self-respecting woman wants a man to have her because he is pitying her? Geez!
Sorry, just not a great read.

5 out of 5 stars Truly spectacular .......2005-09-12

Although the first book in this trilogy was my favorite, that doesn't knock this book out of the running for awesome read. I really enjoyed every bit of this book. I thought it was so cute and sweet( and okay a little sappy)the way he called her "kitten" throughout the book. It showed he had affection for her from the beginning of their relationship. Of course anyone who lets you SHOOT you and not be the slightest bit angry with you must have some affection for you. I can't think of one thing that bothered me about this book and i wouldn't hesitate to say so if there was. It was fast paced and kept my attention from start to finish. I'm a little sad to be done with the Sterling family, but i thought it was a wonderful end to the trilogy.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful! Excellent!! PASSION!!!!.......2005-09-09

This is definitely one of Samantha James' better books, in my opinion. Both characters felt "real" and made me believe they were in love with one another deeply. Both had great senses of humor too, which is always a plus. This book had everything you need to create a good romance: a dashing hero, a beautiful heroine and, most of all...PASSION! This book is sharp and fast-moving. Filled with Lovable characters, exciting and not too heavy action-mystery twists. Lots of laugh out-loud, I-can't-believe-they-did-that scenes and oh so plenty of heart warming moments. The reader will feel the despair, the heartbreak, passion and the joy of Dane and Julianna in this very excellent character driven romance. I found the characters to be multi-dimensional and the author weaves a mystery into the story without slowing it down or interrupting the romantic flow. The plot and characters seemed fresh, the pace was quick, and it was a totally engrossing read. Full of enjoyable supporting characters and stories. I love this book.

3 out of 5 stars A Nice Read!!!.......2005-08-30

Normally a huge fan of Ms. James, her latest effort just wasn't up to her usual standards. This is not to say that the read was not good, it was a nice read, but what kept it from being great was our heroine Julianna.

Left at the alter Julianna Sterling is making her way in life as best as she can. Her dreams of a happy marriage, with children running amok is over. She is on her way to Bath when her coach is waylaid by none other than "The Magpie." But, this highway man is much more than he seems, and Julianna may have just met her match.

Dane Granville is not only a Viscount, but he also works undercover for the crown. When his path crosses that of Julianna his life has just become that much more complicated. It sure doesn't help that this fiesty kitten doesn't know when to back down. Her kiss is too tempting to avoid, and they are both helpless to deny what they feel. Is there a chance for a happy ending with these two or will secrets stay in the way?

Dane and Julianna were interesting characters. This story had a lot of potential but was a let down when it came to our heroine. Childish is the best description to use when describing Julianna. You want to feel for her but in the end...it's almost a chore. Still, Ms. James has crafted an interesting hero, and the storyline although not new and fresh was done in a way that entertained. Ms. James is a true talent and I look forward to her next offering.

Book Description

Lucinda Barrett's best friends ended up married to the men to whom they delivered their 'lessons in love'. So Lucinda decides to choose someone who definitely needs lessons, but someone who will not complicate her life. And that person is definitely not Robert Carroway.

Robert is nothing if not complicated, and though he is the brother of a viscount, he rarely goes about society, and finds the weather and hat fashions ludicrous subjects for discussion. Robert is attracted to Lucinda's unpretentious ways, her serenity and her kindness. When she chooses someone for her love lessons, Robert offers to help her deliver her lessons, but sets out to convince the woman he has fallen for to take a chance on love ... and on him.

5 out of 5 stars Loved this - it's an incredible story about real love!!!.......2007-07-27

That's exactly what this book is about, real love! Not only is it incredibly well-written, but it is very moving, Suzanne Enoch draws you into to the story, the characters, their pains and joys in a way few authors do.

The story is my favorite of the "Lessons in Love" trilogy. Robert "Bit" Carroway, is a wounded, aching ex-soldier, who has been struggling with his return to civilian life for several years. When his older brother marries, his new sister-in-law's friends visit her at the Carroway home. There he meets Lucinda Barrett and she becomes his saving grace, his means for healing and becoming whole again. When a traitor and thief steal important military papers and accuse Robert of the theft and treason, Lucinda, Robert, the Carroway clan join forces to clear Robert's name. In the process, Robert falls in love with Lucinda, although she has her heart set on another. Robert loves her madly, but knowing his condition adn that he is not completely healed from his military experiencs, he is willing to be content with just knowing "that one day she could possibly love him a little."

The story is quick, light-hearted in many parts, and a delightful read. One of the many reasons I love this book is because Enoch develops Robert's character so well, she puts you into his mind, and you feel his pain, his heartache, his joy, and you experience his steps toward healing. Lucinda is a delightful heroine, although you do get stressed at times with the fact that she refuses to acknolwedge that Robert means more to her than her "chosen student".

Trhough it all though, love conquers all and in the end all is made well. I highly recommend this novel it is one which I bought some time ago, and continue to revisit time and again. It is a definte keeper!!

4 out of 5 stars First half- 4 stars.......2007-06-19

Robert "Bit" Carroway is a wounded soldier still suffering from being tortured by the French three years earlier. He's quiet and unsure of himself, often retreating to his room as soon as he feels panicked.

He secretly watched Lucinda, the friend of his sister-in-law, for years. He slowly started to make himself known to her and a chance encounter caused him to strike a deal with her. If she helped him with his rose garden, something he suggested having to distract himself, then he would help her with in her lessons to 'train' Lord Geoffrey Newcombe and eventually wed him. He only did it so he could spend more time with her, never expecting he would actually fall in love with her.

I must say that I rather liked Robert. His character was very unique from the typical bad arrogant attitudes that get very old very fast. A man can be a man without being so demanding and cocky. I was rooting for Robert and he quickly became one of my favorite heroes. Another unique aspect of this book, to me, was that Robert not only had a nice family (an increasing rarity) but a caring family. His brothers' concern for him touched me. I loved their relationship.

I felt as if the twist towards the end of the book took away from the story between Robert and Luce. The reader already knew everything would work out and it just felt like wasted pages. It was mentioned many times that characters were worried that Robert would have to be locked up in prison that I started to expect that would happen. It may sound sadistic, but I was disappointed that it didn't happen. It would have been a touching moment. When everything eventually worked out and Robert is cleared there's only a few pages left of the book and the reader already knew what was going to happen.

I think the reader also deserved to have known what exactly had happened to Robert while he was held captive. It was hinted and lightly touched on, with a few experiences thrown here and there, but there were no flashbacks or discussions about what *really* happened. I think the typical "let the reader decide" ploy is just an excuse for lazy writing.

His obvious insecurity with himself was what appealed to me the most, especially when Luce tried to remove his shirt and his discomfort with his limp.

All in all, the first half of the book is really good. The reader was exposed to an interesting character and was able to go through his ups and downs with him. The rest of the book is okay and predictable. I'm not really disappointed that I read it but I don't really have that satisfaction of finishing a really good book.

5 out of 5 stars Always a delight.......2007-03-23

Ms. Enoch never disappoints. Whether writing stories about the present day or the past, this author has a flair for dialog and creates believable interesting characters. Also in her favor--she can write--unlike most romance authors. If you are a thinking woman with a college education who still enjoys the occasional fairy tale, and knows that most literary fiction is just a romance or mystery with pretensions, look no farther.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad....but not great........2006-09-20

A well written book. However I have to agree with another reviewer and say I don't think Ms. Enoch is for me.

I loved Robert and ever so loving his family. Perfect characters in every way.

I found Lucinda to be very shallow. Looking for life to always be "simple"....

Couldn't stand the fact that Lucinda's other suitor was always in the middle of everything.

If like me you are looking for a passionate love story filled with sensuality, this is NOT it.

5 out of 5 stars I love the way Robert grew throught out the story .......2006-09-16

England's Perfect Hero by Suzanne Enoch was the third book of the series. This story had more mystery and danger than the others. Three women decide to make a list of lessons that all men should learn to be good husbands.Lucinda decides that all her friends married the men from the 'lessons' so she picks a perfect man - but fate takes over. Robert Carroway is not her pick - he is a injured soldier who has lots of dark secrets. I loved this novel the characters are great. The firefighters of Firehouse 59 can't help but wonder when Brady's Tavern, the local hangout, will reopen after the owner passes away. Cute Julie Polk doesn't seem the type to run a bar, but hey, she's better looking than Brady ever was! Needless to say, they're stunned when Julie decides to convert the place into a…tearoom!

Determined not to let that happen, the firefighters elect Tony Veracruz, the resident Casanova, to sweet-talk the blonde into changing her mind. Brady's Tavern should be back in no time! But as Tony gets closer to Julie and realizes he wants more than just a fling, he's not sure where his loyalties lie.…

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Lennox's sexy firefighters are back in action.......2007-02-13

Firefighting is a rough job and there's nothing the firefighters of Firehouse 59 like doing more after their work shift ends than kicking back at Brady's Tavern across the street from the station. When a beautiful woman starts rummaging around in the recently closed tavern, they hope that the bar will soon be back in business. And considering it's a beautiful woman, they delegate rookie Tony Veracruz to find out her plans--and to persuade her tomake sure her plans are heading in the right lines. Tony is reluctant--he's just come out of another failed relationship and his he isn't ready to face another woman, but rookies pretty much have to do what they're told--even if they're told to break every rule and seduce the bar's beautiful new owner.

When she spotted her fiance in bed with another woman, Julie Polk didn't lose just her engagement, she lost her job as well. She's intent on proving to the world that she doesn't need the rich Davidson family to show she's successful. Jefferson Street in South Dallas is just on the verge of being discovered, she believes, and a high-class tea room is the perfect thing. Women who lunch will line up for a chance to enjoy the great food and atmosphere she intends to provide. Best of all, she'll be able to help her smart sister who's set to enter college but who no longer has access to the schollarship the Davidsons had promised her. Julie can't deny that she's attracted to the sexy firefighter who seems anxious to visit whenever he gets the chance, but her primary focus has to be the tea room.

The firefighters see a tea room as a disaster and set out to ruin it. And Julie's over-ambitious plans cause almost as many problems. But Julie is sure she'll make it through, somehow. Especially with the support she's getting from Tony. When she learns that Tony became interested in her just to persuade her to re-open a low-rent bar, she knows she'll never be able to forgive him--no matter how hard he tries to persuade her that his motives have changed and this time he really wants to come through for her.

Author Kara Lennox writes a compelling story with a heroine who wants to make it on her own and a hero who really is a hero--of a sexy firefighter. The three rookies, who first appeared in Lennox's THE FAMILY RESCUE are back in action, with plenty of firefighting, the struggle to fit in with the more experienced firefighters, and, in Tony's case, the conflict between satisfying the demands his co-workers put on him and his own wish to make Julie happy. Lennox ups the suspense when a fire breaks out--and comes up with a nifty resolution that just might surprise you. HER PERFECT HERO is definitely a winner. Check it out.

4 out of 5 stars fine firefighting romance.......2007-02-10

South Dallas Firehouse 59 firefighters mourn the death of the owner of their favorite hangout Brady's Tavern, but also wonder if the place will ever reopen for business. However, the new owner Julie Polk plans to renovate the place before a grand opening to the elation of the firefighters until they learn it won't be a tavern but as a tearoom.

The firefighting crew needs that bar to unwind so they decide to send an emissary to persuade Julie out of the conversion. They pick their top hunk the great womanizer Tony Veracruz to seduce her into running a bar not a teahouse. Though she cannot picture herself owning a tavern, Julie can see herself falling in love with dynamic Tony; to everyone's shock he seems reciprocate.

HER PERFECT HERO, the sequel to the warm (no pun intended) THE FAMILY RESCUE once again cherishes our heroic firefighters who risk their lives when they battle blazes. This time the relationship develops between a civilian who has not been rescued by a firefighter on duty, but "saved" from loneliness by a firefighting hunk. The story line is fun to follow as fans of Kara Lennox's series will enjoy seeing Tony "Casanova" Veracruz fall in love.

4 out of 5 stars Presidential Class Book.......2007-04-28

On a tour of the white house-34 year old Ginny Baxter is nearly arrested after she takes a wrong turn looking for the bathroom. She ends up in hand cuffs in front of the gorgeous single President of the United States, Steven Marshall. Steven's staff has just advised him that he needs to find a suitable woman as his escort for White House Functions and he jokingly says he will take the first woman through the door to his next reception. When the Secret Service brings Ginny into the room, Steve is instantly attracted, he has spent the past two years during his election and first year as a practical monk. Ginny finds herself as the president's date at an reception but she doesn't fit in, her clothes are not good enough and she doesn't know what to say, so she sneaks out. Steve is irritated that he was actually dumped and he can't let go of his attraction so he pursues Ginny until she relents and starts dating him. Before long, they are in a passionate affair that seems everyone disapproves of, Steve's maiden aunt, her sullen teenage son, a certain senator's daughter who's had her eye on Steve. Ginny is falling love with Steve but knows she can never give him what he needs, but when he kisses her she just can't resist. Steve will do whatever it takes to keep Ginny, even if it means sneaking out in disguise from time to time.

This was a charming story and I loved the characters. I had a few issues with the way things played out especially with Ginny's son, but it was a very good endearing story.

5 out of 5 stars a heart warming contemporary fairy tale.......1999-10-27

If you enjoyed the movie where Michael Douglas played the bachelor president in love with Annette Bennings' character(forgot the movies'name),you will love this. But where did they get the totally dredful cover art?It had nothing to do with the story inside.

5 out of 5 stars This Book Left Me Wanting For MORE!.......1999-08-30

This is the First book I've read by this author and BOY WAS I IMPRESSED! This book spoke to the heart. The character were all too real to me. It just proved to me that emotion are very potent feelings, and you can be lead astray, by them, very easily. We could all take a lesson from this book. On a whole this was a beautifully written book. I only wish I could write 1/4 as well as this author. Ms. Rogers, please continue to write with the intensity and passion and realism you injected into this wonderful book, and I'll do my part by buying and reading them as fast as you can write them!!!

5 out of 5 stars Cinderella does the White House in a great modern romance.......1998-11-27

At only thirty-nine, Stephen Marshall has been President of the United States for about a year. Already his advisors and his beloved Aunt Doris inform him that if he wants to be reelected he, being a bachelor, needs a woman by his side. To insure that no sex scandal impacts him, Stephen lives the life of a cold showering monk.

Ginny Baxter is Jane Q. Public citizen, who is on the tour of the White House, when her blood pressure medicine sends her looking for a bathroom. Somehow she clears the entire house without being stopped, ultimately running into the Secret Service and the President. Quick thinking Stephen selects Ginny as his political rescuer and invites her to attend a reception. She wonders if she is Cinderella or just the butt of a bad practical joke. The mother of a teenager and the country's most eligible bachelor begin to see each other and fall in love with one another. However, he is political suave and she is suburban baseball mom,

leaving no doubt that midnight will strike early for this unusual couple.

GOLDEN MAN is a contemporary American fairy tale that succeeds due to the immense talent of Evelyn Rogers. The story line, especially the night of the "disaster", seems so real because of the awesome skills of the writer. The lead players are charming, but it is the political hacks, sycophants, and friends of the president that turns Cinderella goes DC into a deserved crown of glory for Ms. Rogers.

5 out of 5 stars A Fabulous work in emotion!.......1999-01-13

A Perfect Hero is a perfect example of how Paula Detmer Riggs can take even the most horrible premise and pull out enough emotion to leave the reader panting for more. PDR has a knack for making the reader love each of her characters from the tall, dark, and too sexy hero to the ugly dog. And no one can accuse her of not making the reader stop and think. It takes true talent to pull undying love out of hate and racial tension. Ian is a man with a heart big enough to save the world and love his family on top of it.

5 out of 5 stars More bang for your buck - big novel in a small package........1998-10-02

"A Perfect Hero" kept me up half the night and it was worth every minute of lost sleep. Ian MacDougall is a man driven by demons from his past. Marca Kenworth is a woman whose strength and love can save him, but the past that haunts him now threatens her future and the lives of everyone she loves.

This novel has a solid suspense plot with a satisfyingly evil villain, a dynamite supporting cast, a heroine that's mature, warm, and very real, and a hero that really is the "Perfect Hero". This is the second book I've read by this author that has been set in the college town of Bradenton, Oregon - I hope Ms. Riggs will give us more. Loved the town, loved these characters, loved this book!

    Product Description

Joseph Campbell provided a series of steps that each person undergoes on their own unique Hero's Journey. Although these steps are based on mythological stories from the beginning of time, they are all still highly relevant to our current world, and this book explores this idea in the lives of Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Lance Armstrong, & Rudy Giuliani. Joe Guse has studied the work of Joseph Campbell extensively, and is also working on a book about the application of the Hero's Journey in Individual Psychology.

    5 out of 5 stars The Hero's Journey.......2007-03-16

I have known the author for a while and I can tell you he is an extremely enthusiastic teacher of Campbell's Hero's Journey. This is a great introductory work, but if you really want to understand the Hero's Journey check out one of this guys workshops.
