Book Description
It all began with a strange, mysterious correspondence left for authors Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black at a small New England bookstore. Written by three siblings, the letter told of their great-great-uncle Arthur Spiderwick and an unfinished tome filled with eyewitness accounts of creatures otherwise thought to be the stuff of legend. In the #1 New York Times bestselling serial the Spiderwick Chronicles, readers were enthralled by the account of the those siblings, Jared, Simon, and Mallory Grace, as they battled dwarves, goblins, elves, and a diabolical ogre in their efforts to hold on to their uncle Spiderwick,s life work. Now, through the combined efforts of the Grace children and authors Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, Simon & Schuster is thrilled to present that work to you!
Beginning with a thoughtful and informative introduction, progressing through six exhaustive sections featuring thirty-one faerie species, and culminating with an addendum that includes observations supplied by Jared Grace, this long-awaited compendium to the worldwide Spiderwick phenomenon delivers enough information to satisfy even the most demanding faerie enthusiast. Not only will readers learn the habits and habitats of the fourteen fantastical creatures featured in the New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestselling chapter books, but they will be delighted and astonished by an additional seventeen creatures. Also included are dozens of snippets from Arthur Spiderwick,s personal journal as well as cameos from a few series favorites.
With so much to offer, this book is destined to be pored over for generations to come!

WOW!!! This is a classic treasure that will live on for generations!.......2007-09-22
I can now say that I am a lucky man. I got to meet one of my heroes in San Diego a few weeks back. His name is Tony DiTerlizzi, and as far as I'm concerned, he's one of the most talented illustrators alive. Not since Brian Froud's classic FAERIES book has such a magnificent collection of fairytale art been bound together. Tony's style has a very classic/retro feel, that is also somehow modern at the same time. The palette is perfect, and the takes on these classic faeries are fresh. It is simply a gorgeous book worthy of being enjoyed time and time again.
I had a blast looking through each page, pausing to drink in each pencil sketch, and all the wonderfully painted renderings alike. There is no throwaway art in this book -- none at all!
The imagination of everyday items like needles, thimbles, and scissors becoming proud objects of the fairies that stole them is masterfully done. I am proud to say that Tony has signed my copy -- and maybe one day I'll be lucky enough to own an original piece of art from the book.
Kudos, and masterfully done! This is a treasure!
A Rare Find.......2007-09-03
Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You is a truly unique find. I stumbled across the novels at a friends house and thought the ink drawings were fun and playful, but the field guide itself is quite striking. The illustraions alone would have sold me, i love the little quick sketches and diagrams, plus the old-time travel log look is really appealing. All of the "little-known-facts", author's musings/notes, and narratives make this a rare find for any fantasy lover.
Awesome pictures.......2007-06-05
I love this book! I can look through it over and over again and never get tired of the beautiful illustrations. This illustrated book ties into the Spiderwick Chronicles books. It is the actual field guide that they talk about in this series that all of the fantasy creatures are trying to get ahold of. It is not supposed to be in human hands. No telling what the humans would do if they knew their secrets!
My kids LOVE IT!.......2007-03-11
We read the Spiderwick Chronicles series and wanted more. So, when we found there was a Field Guide available we jumped at it. My kids have studied the characters in the book and have gone on faerie hunts in the yard and elsewhere. Fun! I'd recommend it for all 7-10 year-olds who are seriously interested in all things faerie.
A book to spark the imagination.......2007-03-08
My 5th grade son came home from school and insisted we buy this book. The reading teacher at his school had brought the book in to his classroom and they all went wild for it. It is very imaginative with wonderful illustrations of mythical creatures and is categorized in six different areas of fantastical creatures ("Around the house and yard" i.e. brownies, boggarts, changelings, pixies, etc. "In Fields and Forests" - cockatrices, elves leprechauns, manticores, sprites, treefolk, etc. "In Lakes and Streams" - kelpies, merfolk, nixies, sea serpents, trolls etc. "In The Hills and Mountains" - dwarves, giants, goblins, knockers, ogres, etc. "In The Sky" - dragons, griffins and phoenixes and "Outside At Night" - banshees, gargoyles, phookas, and will-o-the wisps among many many others. It is beautifully illustrated and has lots of information on the fictional (or is he?) Arthur Spiderwick's adventurous travels. My 2nd grade daughter really enjoys looking at the pictures although the text is too hard for her. This is a great book for older children, especially children like my son that are reluctant readers. Its the kind of book they pick up over and over. Because my children enjoyed this so much, we recently bought Spiderwick's The Care and Feeding of Sprites which is great but doesn't compare with the Fantastical World Around You (which covers many different species of mythical creatures with detailed descriptions and information on each). Happy reading and imagining!

Everything has worked as written.......2006-02-27
My DH is using this and other books for a science and gadget class with 10 K-2 kids. He likes this book as the experiments are easy and fast paced enough to keep the kids' attention, a real issue with this bunch.
I like it!!!!.......2005-11-30
I disagree with Dixie who had written the previous review! The book was not written for 3 year olds! A good parent reviews the info and suggested age levels in the review section before buying. We have been very happy with these books. After buying one other, we bought this one and love it just as much. These experiments are simple to read and study. But the teach important science concepts so I am as happy as a mom can be...but again...I read the age level before buying the book! Someday I hope to make a list of recommended books...this will be one!
Not all it is cracked up to be.......2002-08-15
I bought this book for my 3 year old son since he has an interest in science. When I got the book I was disappointed in the experiments listed, such as disecting an osyter and fish. Not that I have problems with that, but I was looking for something that you can find objects around the house and more cause and reaction type thing.
FUN BOOK FOR KIDS!!!.......2002-06-07
My children loved this book becasue they had fun with experiments. But my husband and I loved this book because it taught our children science conepts that we could never teach. We used this book until it got raggedy and torn and then my kids insisted on getting another copy!
We highly recommend this book.

Science in Seconds for Kids.......2001-03-24
My children and I have used this book until it has become tattered and torn. Not only are the science activities easy to understand, they are easy to do and don't require any special equipment. I would highly recommend this book...I loved it so much, that I now have a collection of all of this author's books.

Book Description
As wild and reckless as the most incorrigible of her male cousins, Amy Malory has reached a marriageable age and has set her sights on a most inappropriate mate: the straight–laced American ship captain who once nearly had her Uncle James hung for piracy.
Warren Anderson is shocked by the brazen advances of his despised enemy's beautiful niece. Though determined to resist her, he burns for the enchanting British minx. And an impassioned heart implores him to surrender to a love that could stoke the smouldering fires of a family feud into a dangerous, all consuming blaze.

Great Follow Up to A Gentle Rogue...BRAVO!.......2007-07-28
If you are somehow new to Lindsey or gasp, the Malory Clan, rest assured you cannot go wrong with this author's early work. From Tender Rebel to Gentle Rogue to Magic of You...all are page turning and entertaining. You fall in love with this family from start to finish. Lindsey puts a unique spin on this one as it's a woman, Amy Malory, she is featuring. Cleverly written, witty, and sensual. I own all her early Malory novels. You won't want to miss out on THE MAGIC OF YOU. BRAVO!
Simply a Malory!.......2007-07-05
Amy is simply a Malory. She is a female version of her uncles James and Anthony. I loved how she had such confidence in herself as the pursuer. This book was a typical adventure written in Johanna Lindsey fashion filled with love, humor and passion. It is a must read. With every Malory novel I read I fall for this family over again.
Of course I loved it!.......2007-06-01
All of Lindsey's Mallory novels are a good read for me. I hope she continues on with the Mallory clan because these are some of her best works.
Energizing.......2007-03-27
I Would Agree To An Extent That Amy Was A Bit Much...But She Grows On You, She Is A Mallory After All, And Are They All Not Outspoken And Blatant? What Should Make Amy Malory Any Different, Her Sex?
And I Simple Love Warren, Amy Was Truly His Match As He Was Hers.

I visitted Skipsville often.......2006-12-23
A woman chasing a man to this extent is not romantic. It was like a foxhunt with her trying to run the fox to ground,at any moment I expected her to yell "tallyho!" It's ok to give Warren a nudge but this girl was outrageously ridiculously too forward to be believable.I finally got through it by skipping the more outrageous parts.
Of course Warren was no dreamboat either.Unfeeling is the best I can come up with to describe him.To be fair to him though he tried to warn her about not setting her cap for him and constantly referred to her as little girl in order to discourage her.Alas she didn't take the hint.Halfway through the novel I still had no idea why she was chasing Warren. What qualities of his caused her to believe herself in love with him? I don't believe he fell in love with her either,he gave in so she'd stop chasing him.

A Great Book.......2007-09-09
I almost did not get it when i was impressed to do so. But it is a very Spiritual Book and i have passed it on to many others.I is a life changing Book.
Finding your way.......2007-02-08
Excellent read and one book you will keep by the bedside to re-read over the years. Leads the reader to seek more depth and detail to the concepts but this is a worthy read and good value for the price.
A small book in pages but big in concepts and ideas.
Highly recommended.
The new scene of the life.......2006-04-12
The way of the wizard is not a simple book. it is a guide of
the life. Sometime we have a wrong scene of life so we are
not free of being happy. When I read this book the scene of
life changed for me and now I am more free to be happy.
The Way of the Wizard.......2005-02-22
I read this book every year. It was published in 1995 - and I've read it cover to cover 10 times and referred to it dozens of times more for inspiration. It's thrilling to discover that you are a wizard - powerful, brilliant, a universal citizen with the ability (and responsibility) to heal your own heart and the heart of the planet. If you believe, as I do, in magic and our co-creator status, you will love this book too. It inspires, motivates, educates and reassures mind, heart and soul of our sacred purpose. I think Deepak Chopra is brilliant and this book was a giant step for me on my spiritual path.
Elaine Maginn Sonne, Ph.D, Author of Legends of the Stones and former Editor of Science of Mind magazine
Very thought-provoking.......2004-08-12
Deepak Chopra has been on Oprah many times. He is Indian and this book is one of many he has written with a metaphysical or New Age philosophy. Each chapter contains one lesson and begins with a story involving a young boy, Arthur, and a wise old wizard, Merlin. The rest of the chapter explains the lesson learned by the young wizard. For instance, talking about transformation, or making changes in one's life: "You cannot bring your same stale self to the world and expect the world to be new for you."

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful! My 6 & 8 year old boys love this!.......2007-04-22
Wow! I have been trying to introduce poetry to my boys since they were toddlers and the only feedback I ever received was blank stares - maybe it was my reading style. But, for some reason, they just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this CD. We listen to it in the car and fight over which poem we listen to first. Some of our favorites are The Pied Piper, Thomas' Do Not Go Gently into that Good Night, the limericks (I was a bit worried when it started with There was an old man from Nantucket. . . . - but it is actually the children's version, obviously) and Kit Marlowe's The Passionate Shepard to His Love. My 8 year old has several of the classics almost memorized.
Our only complaint is the reading of Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky. It is somewhat flat and not at all as exciting as it could be.
Nonetheless, it is a great, rich, collection of beautiful poetry that your kids will enjoy. It truly is one of our favorites.
Whimsically Thorough.......2007-04-15
I found this book through a bookstore display, and am very pleased with it. This is a well thought out, thorough introduction to basic poetry forms, with familiar poems--a comfort to the parent who may want to read this material to the younger child. The drawings are really fun, with enough on the page for the jaded 21st century eye to look at. If that weren't enough, there's a CD of the poems, so the reader can also hear them spoken, an important element of poetry.
I think the breadth of the poetry styles chosen, including the nursery rhymes and limericks, is just right, and can be expanded on by the parent or teacher by reaching beyond the book. I plan to use this book as a basis for some directed summertime reading for my grandkids, but this book is easily enjoyed by the adult.
A nice resource for homeschoolers (or any parent who would like their children to read and enjoy poetry).......2006-11-20
I homeschool my children (ages 7 and 9), and I wanted to add poetry to their literature curriculum. I found this book at the library, and it was a perfect introduction to the many forms of poetry, with great examples for each. The biographies of famous poets in the second half of the book were also a very useful teaching tool. They were short, informative and interesting. (I learned a few things myself...)
I kept the book in the car, and my children took turns reading (aloud and to themselves). They looked forward to their poetry lessons, and even memorized a few poems on their own accord. My son read Poe's "The Raven," and commented, "I don't understand it, but it's scary, somehow." I found it fascinating that a poem writeen almost 200 years ago could frighten a modern-day child.
This book was a wonderful tool to pique my children's interest in poetry. I plan to buy or borrow other books on poetry to cultivate their budding interest.
I can't comment on the CD as it was no longer included in the library book. However, my children and I enjoyed this book so much that I will definitely purchase it soon.
Engaging for both child and parent.......2006-04-15
My son is only in preschool and has a lot of fun with this book, and I think it has enough variety and range that we'll return to it for years. There is great background material for parents to read and think about, and perhaps share with their kids as they get older. The performance of the poems on the CD is lackluster, but the overall quality of the book's text and selections is superb.
A great collection.......2004-12-17
My daughter's only 3, but her latest routine is to pick poems from this book to read before bed. Which is great, it's something we both can enjoy. I like the book's entertaining illustrations and helpful, down-to-earth writing style. I'd recommend it to anyone!

I thought that the book was very unique.I also thought it was a very interesting story. It also was very good. Not alot of authors use their state's culture with fiction.I think that the author,Mary Moore is very creative. She used creative words, such as Yappy-Yo-Yo,and Fantamarific. The culture was in her hometown.I recommend that you read the book.

Teachers will love this........2007-04-28
Mary Moore is a masterful writer. As I was reading Enchanted Lands, I gave my students updates on the adventures of Yappy-Yo-Yo. They were enthralmazed. I am in deepmiration. The word play was such fun to read, and tempting to imitate. I can see a whole series. It must have been fun to write. The references to the Indian Tribes gives it that special little hook that other novels lack. I loved the book. I hope Mary Moore is cranking out the next adventure of the Zozoan Force?
Home grown Harry Potter.......2007-04-02
Harry Potter, move over! Chili Bear Claw is a new preteen hero on the scene of fantasy/science fiction books. But Mary and Stephen Moore's book is unique because of the large helping of Native American lore in the story. The "mission" in Enchanted Lands: The Mission is to get Roswell, New Mexico's famous aliens back to their home planet. To accomplish this, Chili, his buddy Mac, and Emily the talking greyhound, have all sorts of wild adventures. Talking animals, Apache reservation ceremonies, travels beneath earth's surface via the heart-stopping "whurzle," and magic stones are only parts of this exciting, clever book. Middle schoolers can read it for themselves, and it's a great read-aloud for upper elementary. This is a book parents and grandparents will enjoy with their children. Smart, funny, thoughtful. Highly recommended!
Enchanted Lands-The Mission.......2007-03-19
Delightful! Enchanted Lands- The Mission, is full of charming characters, wonderful cultural experiences and life priciples. The reader will be drawn into a vivid world with unique problems to solve and immersed in a rich vocabulary. This book will captivate young and old readers alike. Mary and Steve Moore have captured the unique flavor of New Mexico and presented a fun, even plausable, explaination of the mystery that surrounds the Roswell incident of the 1940's. Prepare to be charmed and intriqued as you read this imaginative story of friendship, growing pains and courage among an unlikely group of heros.

He is transported to the Wishworks world and is soon engaged in a battle against Curseworks .......2007-06-05
Everything is bright and normal in Benjamin Bartholomew Piff's life until that terrible day when his parents are killed in a plane crash. There are no other relatives for him to live with, so he is put into Pinch's Home for Wayward Boys, "a dilapidated orphanage converted from a windowless industrial building that once produced dental tools."
There are several things wrong with this setup for 11-year old Benjamin: 1) He is not "wayward"; 2) There is nothing home-like about the place; and 3) He hates it. In addition, the awful orphanage chef, Solomon Roach, always seems to be punishing Benjamin for something, and Eliza Pinch's "perfume smelled of an old cat box." Eliza is the head of the orphanage and an old spinster who doesn't like children and is bent on making his life miserable. The one very bright spot in Benjamin's sad life is a little stray terrier dog he call Rags. Of course pets are not allowed, so Benjamin is forced to sneak away for short times to feed small scraps to his little friend.
Benjamin also has a plan. The old gardener at the orphanage, Mr. Kunkel, has been giving Benjamin quarters for helping out with little things. It's Mr. Kunkel who has allowed Benjamin to keep his puppy in an old doghouse on the property. But the nice old man has been fired. Now Benjamin visits Rags and keeps his little bag of saved quarters hidden away. His plan is going fine until one evening when Ms. Pinch catches him sneaking out of the doghouse. That's the end of his money, and Benjamin is losing hope fast.
So who would have guessed that when the social worker drops off a birthday cake for Benjamin, who completely forgot about the big day, his life would completely change? And what kind of birthday wish does he make? Why, just what every kid would wish for in his situation --- that he would be granted all the wishes he could ever want! Suddenly everything is different: Mr. Roach is waiting on him, Ms. Pinch adores him, he's ordering big screen televisions, computer games, ice cream, candy and all sorts of goodies to make himself and the boys totally happy at the orphanage. WOW! This is the way life should always be!
But there's not much happiness in the world of Wishworks. Benjamin's wishes are throwing everything into chaos; if he doesn't stop, then something really terrible is going to happen. Thomas Candlewick, who is about to become the new leader of Wishworks, is on high alert when Benjamin's disastrous birthday wish becomes known. With the assistance of flying chairs, fairies, genies and an assortment of other strange little characters, Mr. Candlewick realizes that they must pay Benjamin a visit before greater disaster strikes.
This is where Benjamin's story gets even more fun, because he is transported to the Wishworks world and is soon engaged in a battle against Curseworks (a group determined to take over Wishworks and all the good things they do). Lots of action ensues, and Benjamin must overcome many fears and make some extremely difficult decisions.
One of the great charms found in Jason Lethcoe's book is the addition of many delightful, informative footnotes from the world of Wishworks. Explanations are given for word definitions, histories and characters. For instance, what exactly is a Thaumaturgic Cardioscope, or when and where did Wishworks originate? Characters are given creative names like Wolfgang Warblegrunt (the founder of Wishworks historical library) and Leonardo Snifflewiffle (past president of Wishworks). A wonderful map is provided, an appendix of past presidents of Wishworks is attached and lighthearted illustrations by the author himself are scattered throughout.
Benjamin's misadventures are just beginning, so readers can look forward to more stories in future installments. Younger fans of Harry Potter-like fantasies will be sure to want this book on their shelves.

Simple but fun.......2007-04-29
***1/2
Ever since his parents died in a tragic accident, poor Ben has been stuck at Pinch's Home for Wayward Boys, scrubbing pots and eating mush and other normal orphanage-type stuff. He even forgot his birthday, until a kind friend brings him a cake. When he sneaks a slice to eat, he stares thoughtfully at the candle a moment. Finally he closes his eyes, blows, and makes a wish. Little does he know that his wish could change the whole world.
This was a fun, cute book that I zipped right through. The characters were disappointingly flat, but the plot was inventive and the story over-all engaging. A light read that young children who enjoy "wishes-go-wrong" stories are sure to enjoy.
Next Harry Potter series!.......2007-04-15
This book is incredible! I can see myself championing Benjamin like I do Harry! I hear that the author has the second and third book in the series due out in July and October. Ben is clever and the story is very compelling. I can't wait for the second one! I am glad this book came out just in time because the 7th HP book is coming out July 21st! Woot! Can't Wait! This series will keep me going now. I think a good description of this book would be a Harry Potter meets Willy Wonka type story. Benjamin wishes for unlimited wishes and adheres to all of the secret "wishing rules" and the Wishworks factory goes into a frenzy trying to grant his requests! I think this series has the potential to be huge!

Awesome.......2007-07-15
Really a well written book. Very insightful about the world of one the most well known mentalists. Easy to read and full of fun exercises. Recommended for anyone interested in tricks of the trade.
A fun read. From a student of Mentalism & Magic........2005-02-24
I bought this book on a recomendation. The vast majority is entertaining, informative, & Honest. My only complaint is that after he has explained the mechanics of how he does his illusion, he sometimes tries to sell us on the idea that he occasionally can do feats that he can't explain. This is simply not true. He DOES know how these feats are done, as does every mentalist on the planet. My guess is that he has a following of " Believers " and so feels obligated to include just a little mysticism in the text. His section on hypnosis, and what actually occurs is lucid & revealing. One explanation on how to do an effect made me laugh out loud. Not because it was silly, but the explanation was so simple, I was caught off guard. Certainly worth the price of admission.
Another book by the World's best know modern day Mentalist.......1998-05-03
Kreskin offers another book. He is by far the most well know mentalist in the field today. After a over thirty year carrer of appearing on the top television shows of our time and crisscrossing the country appearing at colleges, etc. Kreskin is truly a professional and expert in his field.

Great book, but why buy when you can have it free?.......2005-07-20
I came here to buy this highly recommended book, but was a little surprised at the cost. Since the person who recommended it is someone I admire and trust, I was going to buy it anyway, but then my eye was drawn to the section on the page "Customers interested in Magic Words That Bring You Riches may also be interested in:" Look there, and you'll see an offer to download this book for free. I did it, and sure enough, it's the same book in PDF format, direct from the author's publishing company. Maybe you don't love ebooks, but in any event, how can you beat an offer to see the entire book for free? If you find it worthwhile and want a hard copy, you can return to Amazon.com and buy it! If not, nothing is lost! Also, when reading reviews, beware anyone who says anything is a complete waste of time or money. In my experience, such negative people are not useful to your success. There is clearly much valuable information in this book, and if someone wants to write a negative review worthy of your attention, it should include solid examples so you can draw your own conclusions about the content, rather than simply whether some unknown person "liked" it or not.
Ted "The Great" Nicholas Spills the Beans!.......2004-03-30
This is a must read by anyone in direct sales and marketing industry.
Ted has done amazing things using the written word. Now he shows you how he did it. I have see eBooks like this one being sold on the internet for hundreds of dollars. Compared to those this book is a real bargain. Highly recommended.

should be "magic words in book's title bring author riches".......2002-03-17
my disappointment in this book can only be expressed by the following blunt statement: the purpose of this book is to enrich the author. no benefit to the reader is evident. I would recommend saving your pennies and looking elsewhere.
