Joshua Harris follows up his bestselling I Kissed Dating Goodbye with Boy Meets Girl, the story of how he met and married his wife, Shannon. Where Harris's first book encouraged readers to throw off modern ideas of romantic fixation, Boy Meets Girl goes to the next level and urges single Christian men and women to pursue courtship, and ultimately marriage, thoughtfully and prayerfully. Knowing that many readers will balk at the idea of premeditated courtship, Harris insists that dating should not be emotional recreation but rather a careful decision rooted in obedience to God. While the anecdotes used to reveal true-to-life scenarios about dating pitfalls are somewhat elementary (and geared to those in their 20s), Harris succeeds in hammering home the point that obedience to God's word, selfless love, community, purity, and satisfaction in God are the most important aspect of any relationship. The last section of the book is particularly practical, discussing forgiveness of past sexual sin, questions to ask before tying the knot, and how an understanding of our sinful nature can lead to conflict resolution. For Harris's mere twentysomething years of life experience, his maturity and devotion to God are sincere evidence that he has indeed practiced what he has preached, resulting in a passionate relationship with the love of his life. --Jill Heatherly
Book Description
Purpose Driven Romance
The last thing singles want is more rules. But if you’re looking for an intentional, God-pleasing game plan for finding a future spouse, Joshua Harris delivers an appealing one. A compelling new foreword, an all-new â8 Great Courtship Conversationsâ section, and updated material throughout makes this five-year revision of the original Boy Meets Girl a must-have! Harris illustrates how biblical courtshipâa healthy, joyous alternative to recreational datingâworked for him and his wife. Boy Meets Girl presents an inspiring, practical example for readers wanting to pursue the possibility of marriage with someone they may be serious about.
Are you ready for âromance with purposeâ?
If you’re fed up with self-centered relationships that end in disillusionment, it’s time to rethink romance. Finding the loving, committed relationship you want shouldn’t mean throwing away your hopes, your integrity, or your heart.
In Boy Meets Girl, Joshua Harris âthe guy who kissed dating goodbyeâmakes the case for courtship. As old-fashioned as it might sound, courtship is what modern day relationships desperately need. Think of it as romance chaperoned by wisdom, cared for by community, and directed by God’s Word.
Filled with inspiring stories from men and women who have rediscovered courtship, Boy Meets Girl is honest, romantic, and refreshingly biblical. Keep God at the center of your relationship as you discover how to: Set a clear course for your romance Get closer without compromise Find support in a caring community Deal with past sexual sin Make the right decisions about your future

New! Courtship Conversations
Eight ideas for great dates that will help grow and guide your relationship.
Story Behind the Book
âI wrote I Kissed Dating Goodbye to challenge singles to drop the worldly approach to serial dating and reconsider the way they pursued romance in light of God’s Word. Since then, I’ve received letters asking questions like, So, what comes between friendship and marriage? and, How can you know when you are ready for marriage? Boy Meets Girl answers those questions. Now as a happily married man I can look back on my courtship with Shannon and see from personal experience that God is faithful. If you trust Him enough to wait on romance in dating, He will lovingly guide you as you pursue it in courtshipâ¦right to that wonderful moment when you kneel together at the altar.â â Joshua Harris

Healthy, biblical, sensible, christian suggestions for pure relationships.......2007-09-03
This book is worth your time spent reading it. If you are a Christian and you wonder just how to have a pure relationship, in a world where there seem to be few, I recommend it.
This is an easy reader that runs smoothly, well written and well laid out. This is a young brother speaking to his fellow men and women about his own testimony of relationships, and what he has learned. He doesn't give a set of rules, but gives beautiful guidelines and counsels (and practical ones, more than only: 'Date Christians and don't have sex before marriage! Period!'). He is well aware that there is no 'one size - fit all' when it comes to relationships.
The red line that runs through it all is, that God is the creator of romance and longs for his children to experience it. That to live to the glory of God is to live for him, his way and reflecting him - even in our way of relationships.
Some might find faults with chapter 7 and find it to be a patriarchal, or narrow minded - but what I like about it is that he does call us men to stop being the wimps we have become in this age and be real men!
I found this a challenging book. When I read that "We glorify God in our relationships when we put our needs aside and base our decisions on what serves the interests of the other person" (Pg 36) - I was challenged! That might mean asking yourself, 'Is starting this relationship now what's best for her?' And that is a question passion many times does not allow to be asked. Therewithal this is a romantic book, the story in chapter 3 was wonderful, and a beautiful testimony of the rewards of thoughtful, selfless relationships. Chapter 10 'When your past comes knocking' is also precious and valuable for dealing with past errors in former relationships.
For us in Europe (or other places where the dating game is not played), this book is more practical then 'I kissed dating goodbye'. For who doesn't want the perfect relationship? Who says it is a myth and non-getter today? I think there is a reason for why most girls have fantasied about there wedding since they were small girls... for it is there inborn wish for a good relationship and marriage, and may it also be their fortune.
Go and look at the chapter's titles on the table of contents, they will give you the best overview of the contents of the book.
Say Hello to Courtship.......2007-03-28
As a young adult in my 20's, within marriageable age, this was a wonderful book. I think this was better than "I Kiss Dating Goodbye" that it addresses to people a bit older and the writing is much more mature in this one since Joshua Harris has acquired a bit more wisdom on this matter. Again, I do not agree with some things mentioned in this book (it could be a bit more conservative), but overall, a good book. I really like how it addresses what singles should be doing such as: wait on the will of God, do His work while you are single right now, prepare yourself for marriage by serving those in need.
I've recommended to many of my friends with marriage on their minds at the moment. Nothing was really new in that these have been addressed to me in the past, but it's a wonderful reminder.
Awwww, too cute!.......2007-03-17
My husband and I read this together while we were dating. It helps get your mind going in the right direction to have a wonderfully healthy courtship. Ironically, I finished reading "I kissed dating goodbye" just a week before I met my husband. So of course I recommend reading that one, too!
A bit disappointing.......2007-01-22
I was really enjoying this book and then I read the sad chapter about Shannon's past. It just broke my heart and made me cry. However, I felt more admiration for Joshua Harris, although I'll always think he kinda let himself down.
great book!.......2007-01-20
This book is incredibly well-written. My husband and I read it while dating and engaged and it brought out a lot of good things in our relationship that we may have struggled through blindly otherwise. I've passed it on to a few friends already and plan to continue to do so.

Meet Kate Mackenzie. She:
- works for the T.O.D. (short for Tyrannical Office Despot, also known as Amy Jenkins, Director of the Human Resources Division at the New York Journal)
- is sleeping on the couch because her boyfriend of ten years refuses to commit
- can't find an affordable studio apartment anywhere in New York City
- thinks things can't get any worse.
They can. Because:
- the T.O.D. is making her fire the most popular employee in the paper's senior staff dining room
- that employee is now suing Kate for wrongful termination, and
- now Kate has to give a deposition in front of Mitch Hertzog, the scion of one of Manhattan's wealthiest law families, who embraces everything Kate most despises ... but also happens to have a nice smile and a killer bod.
The last thing anybody -- least of all Kate Mackenzie -- expects to find in a legal arbitration is love. But that's the kind of thing that can happen when ... Boy Meets Girl.

The Not So Sequel.......2007-09-10
I starting reading this book right after I had finished The Boy Next Door. At first I was only reading it to see what was going on from the charaters with in that book as they are closly related yet this is not a sequel. Well I found myself just as engulfed into this book as I was in the first. It is a quick read because you find yourself not wanting to put it down. It has the characters you have to love and the characters that you know you have to hate! I recommend it to anyone who like a light hearted romance novel!
as always, funny and entertaining.......2007-01-26
A little predictable, but another entertaining book by Meg Cabot. The humor kept me smiling and laughing throughout the book.
Good, Fast Meg Cabot Read.......2006-11-02
Having read The Boy Next Door in a few hours, I picked up Boy Meets Girl knowing I could get through it quickly. I'd say this book was not quite as good as The Boy Next Door (I gave that a 4.5), but towards the end it was very, very funny! The only complaint I have is that the lead character Kate got repetative in her constant overthinking by the end...I think in the Boy Next Door, the same dynamics existed for that main character, but she seemed less helpless than Kate. Anyway, I'd still pick it up and read it, especially great for an afternoon to relax - it literally took me about 3 hours to finish! I look forward to other Meg Cabot books because they're just fast and funny reads. Enjoy!
A great idea.......2006-08-04
Boy Meets Girl is supposedly similar to Meg Cabot's 'Boy Next Door' (i havent read this, but i want to) and is a story told entirely through journal entries, instant message conversations, emails and notes. It's a uniquely wonderful idea as it breaks the monotony of a novel and is a fresh new way of telling a story. The book is fun and very readable. I'd reccomend it to all Meg Cabot fans.
Most funny book I've ever read! .......2006-07-11
I just finished Boy Meets Girl and couldn't wait to tell EVERYONE how much I enjoyed it~ I heard about this book and decided to look at it at the library, but found myself hooked from the begining--this book is addicting, especially near the end!
The characters are SO original and the plot is great. Everything sounds so realistic, but with a touch of knowing everything will be okay at the end. The format of this book was a nice change (e-mail transcripts, scribblings on menus, flyers, etc). This is a wonderful, light read! Perfect for the summer, beach, or anywhere! I read it during in between time on a recent vacation and found it easy to just pick right up!
I don't think I have ever read a book that made me laugh out loud so much!
Book Description
Romantic Comedy offers an introduction to the analysis of a popular but overlooked film genre. The book provides an overview of Hollywood's romantic comedy conventions, examining iconography, narrative patterns, and ideology. Chapters discuss important subgroupings within the genre: screwball sex comedy and the radical romantic comedy of the 1970s. A final chapter traces the lasting influence of these earlier forms within current romantic comedies. Films include: Pillow Talk (1959), Annie Hall (1977), and You've Got Mail (1998).

Boy meets Girl.......2004-03-23
My book was about the senior year when the guys finally meet the girl of their dream. This guy name Jeremy meets the girl of his dream her name is Jessica Wakefield, who has a twin sister name Elizabeth Wakefield. But their is a little problem that jeremy has everytime he wants to go out with Jessica something has to go wrong. they never get to see each other until the last minute. this book is very interested for young girl like me, i guaranteed that you will enjoy reading this book. if you really want to know what your senior year will kind of be when you finally get there or if you are already their you make think its kind of what you went thru.
boy meets girl.......2003-07-21
I love the whole jessica and jeremy thing, i think he is really good for her. i just wish she would get over will, he is a jerk. i feel bad melissa tried to kill herself, but i mean over a guy? really... melissa is supposed to be super cool, but why is it everytime her and will break up she goes mental? she is not exactly stable... conner is annoying and liz is annoying for trying to be with someone like that. he isn't worth her or maria's time.
Sweet Valley High: Senior Year #7.......2002-07-03
Following the events in "Your Basic Nightmare" (#6), "Boy Meets Girl" (#7) makes some interesting changes in the main character's lives. For starters, Jeremy Aames finally asks Jessica Wakefield out on a few dates after their first kiss in the previous book. However, their dates never seem to go as planned, and they both begin to have their doubts about whether or not they should continue seeing each other. Plus, there's that added tension with Will Simmons showing up on one of their nights out. His appearance would seem harmless (after all, Jess swears she's over him), but if you read on, you'll see why it's not.
Next up is Melissa Fox, who is hospitalized after trying to kill herself in book #6, right after Will Simmons broke up with her. Most everybody feels guilty about this incident, especially Jess and Will, yet that's not stopping either one of them from thinking about each other. Could there still be some possible chemistry between these two? (I hope not. Jess seems happy enough with Jeremy, without Will ruining things.)
And lastly: Maria Slater had caught Elizabeth Wakefield and Conner McDermott kissing, and now she's not speaking to either one of them, mostly Liz though. And not surprisingly, Conner is now avoiding Liz, too, so she can "work things out" with Maria. More like so he can leave the "relationship" quietly.
There were some really good lists, journal entries, and assignments in "Boy Meets Girl", in particular Liz's freestyle writing assignment about the meaning of love and Maria's "Why Books Are Better Than People" list (my favorite). This is probably one of the better books I've read so far in this series. Jessica is finally back to her old self, worrying about boys and appearances, plus being more assertive, which was the biggest character trait missing in the previous six SVHSY books. "Boy Meets Girl" is worth reading if you finally want to see Melissa get her comeuppance and Jessica land on her two feet again. For readers age 12+
pretty darn good.......2001-10-03
This was a really good book. It just didn't have enough Liz/Connor interaction for me. I think Connor is being a jerk at the end. I like how it ended with Jessica and Will makin up and Jessica and Jeremy getting together though. I also like the friendship developing between Ken and Maria. Overall, a very good book.
Boy meets girl review.......2001-06-03
This book is a great book. It is about highschool students and their lives. If you like this book you will like the other SVH books. There are lots of other Books like Sweet Valley university and elementary and you get the idea.

ASIN: 0881634220 |
Book Description
Hailed on publication as "an impressive integration of postmodernism and relational psychoanalysis" (James Hansel) and "an intelligent and stimulating account of where the issues of identity, gender, and difference are joined" (Jessica Benjamin), Lynne Layton's Who's That Girl? Who's That Boy? is a major contribution to the postmodern understanding of gender issues. This new edition, under the aegis of the Bending Psychoanalysis Book Series, includes a Foreword by Series Editor Jack Drescher and an Afterword in which Lynne Layton addresses the evolution of her thinking since the book's publication in 1998.

Challenging, didactic, never pedantic.......1998-08-26
An enjoyable set of reversible one way mirrors where approachable and popular icons and genres are exhibits used to explain and to critique implications of cultural and psychoanalytic theories which themselves are employed by the author to understand the dominance of specific icons and the particular content of several cultural forms. On a practical level, the work is an effective counterpoint to the neo-scary pigeonholing of persons and, more specifically, psychotherapy patients, in biological categories which the author demonstrates succesfully are not biological at all.
