A waste of time, energy & money!!.......2007-10-07
In the past, I've enjoyed Ms. Cast's books. They've been delightful & I read them over & over. This was a complete waste of time. It's slow starting, boring and dull. As much as I love roses & work so hard to keep mine in good health I would draw the line at feeding them my blood. Yuck!!
Very imaginative........2007-08-24
A really good 'magic kingdom with dark twists' story of which the romance is almost an inconsequence.
The heroine is a complete nut-case. She Has Issues. She should have started talking to her psychiatrist friend long before she began having strange dreams. I suggest that she should have sought help when she first started cutting her hands and feeding her blood to her roses. That is not normal behaviour. Even for a rose enthusiast.
This is the first romance I've read with an undercurrent of man-hate in it. Also there are far far too many women in this story. Mothers, grandmothers, goddesses, handmaidens, actresses to name but a few. Already I feel sorry for the hero. Living in this Land of Women. Some of whom are quite vindictive.
But my main gripe is that by page 91 there has been absolutely minimal interaction between the hero and heroine. In fact. I don't even know the hero's name yet.
Let's look at Mikki's little job. She's an 'executive assistant' in a large hospital. Ok. Another name for a gofer. And what, I suppose, is the dream of an immature gofer. Why. To Be The Boss and have gofers of their own. Which is exactly what happens in Mikki's fantasy. But a 35 yo? Come on. She should have more options than that about what to do with her life. Plus. She can't handle a guy who has different reading tastes from her but is more than happy to accept love from someone who is essentially a slave with a MD.
Getting to the crux. This is a novel about carnal love between a woman and a beast. The hero has cloven hooves and horns. And then the author wimps out by having the pagan goddess Hecate take away his ability to consumate that love unless the heroine begs for it. I mean. The poor guy doesn't control his own fertility. If that happened to a female character do you think it would be acceptable? In a pig's eye it would. That's what I call man-hate. Also the hero is really simplistically portrayed and doesn't really act out of free-will.
tbh. I never liked roses that much anyway. I could hate them after reading this story. Poor Mikki is a slave to the stupid plants. And, as becomes obvious as the novel progresses, she's also somewhat dumb. She must have seen the movie Jason and the Argonauts. Hecate is not a benign goddess. Plus. Those dogs which accompany her should have given Mikki a big clue as to the true nature of the Realm of the Roses, which actually turns out to be a realm of nightmares rather than nicey-wicey dreams. It is not acceptable for a thinking human being to give up her life for the sake of flowering vegetation. Mikki returns to the Realm of the Roses. But I would never have done so. The place is drenched in blood. Ugh. I couldn't really connect with Mikki. She's too earthy and, to repeat, is basically a man-hater.
What I liked about the novel is how Mikki's strange little behaviours are amplified in her fantasy world, but her other worries (job dissatisfaction, lack of a love-life) are completely solved. I thought the author handled Mikki's re-entry to the real world in a very clever, seamless manner. Mikki never spared a single thought for the pain her friends might have felt about her attack and consequent departure back to Roseland. Another characteristic of the mentally disturbed. The more I think about the plot of this novel the more it creeps me out.
But. A few years ago I might have loved this story.
One of the Best EVER.......2007-07-26
Being a woman that loved the Beast in Beauty and the Beast, not only the childrens story but the old TV show, I was one who was dissapointed when the beast turned into a prince. This is one of the BEST books I have ever read. P C Cast will have a reader for life if all the rest are like this one. Being the first book of hers that I have read I hope the rest are as good. Not only does the book have a love story it challenges you to look up greek mythology just to see where she is coming from. I was totally enchanted from the beginning to the last page. I could feel the Guardians claws on my own back and could smell the roses too. The imagination that Ms Cast has is awesome. I couldnt put it down. I definitly reccomend this to anyone that is looking for the "different" romance that stirs your heart as well as your imagination.
Amazingly Great Read.......2007-04-21
To start off, I immediately liked this book because Beauty and the Beast is one of my classic favorites and this book was the author's personal take on the beloved tale. I have to tell you it astounded me how different it was and yet managed to enchant me within minutes. The mysteries implore you to read on and find the answers even as you lose yourself to the great plot.
Mikki is the heroine who ends up accidentally breaking the Beast's curse and freeing him from his imprisonment. In exchange for his freedom, the Beast whisks Mikki off to the Realm of the Rose where he is Guardian. A land he is both awed and feared in but non-the-less calls home. Mikki slowly starts to see the inner working of both the people and the Realm and develops feelings for both. But can a human love a beast? She will have to find out while dodging enemies, unraveling mysteries and giving in to her darkest desires. A task daunting at times but ultimately worth the price it comes with.
The first thing I noticed was the author's great descriptions. The story came to life off the pages and I felt like I was able to explore along with the heroine. And then there are the great characters. The heroine is quite loveable and sees the best in everyone. Makes a person cheer for her in her quest to right the wrongs done purposely or inadvertently. The hero is the haunted beast as you may have guessed. But P.C. Cast really puts a new take on him. For me he became more real, facing the dilemmas and hardships never mentioned in any other story but all too real in life. Quite an interesting pair and really worth the read.
If there was anything I didn't like about this book, it was the ending. And that's because this is one of those books that you read and hate to see end. Eventually it will, but if you are like me, you will be so wrapped up in the story that the end will happen too fast and leave you wanting. Fortunately, this author has more great stories and the journey can continue in those pages for the avid reader.
Boring.......2007-04-13
This has got to be one of most boring books I have ever read. Or I should say half read. I can't believe with all of really great reads out there that someone would find this book good. I am going to dump this one on the book shelves at my gym. Maybe for free it makes a better read. However I doubt that.
Book Description
A guide for personal exploration of the path to the divine feminine and the spiritual power of women.
• Reveals the essential role of women in creating and maintaining the psychic/energetic/emotional landscape of society.
• Explores feminine roles and the archetypal model of the Great Goddess from both Eastern and Western spiritual traditions.
• Includes exercises, meditations, and visualizations drawn from ancient techniques to assist women with their spiritual awakening and self-realization.
The Path of the Priestess takes readers on a journey deep into the heart of the feminine experience. It describes the author's years of first-hand experience in the ancient arts of Tantra, Dzogchen, and Indian and Egyptian temple dance and healing, as well as her research into the feminine principle in the mystic teachings of the Alchemists, Hebrew Kabbalists, and Christian Gnostics.
Beginning with an analysis of the basic issues and frustrations inherent in contemporary society's conditioning of and expectations for women, readers travel back in time to the age of the great temples, schools, and sacred societies in which women still held and transmitted the spiritual light that nourished all of civilization. Through its mythic and historic tales, descriptions of sacred ritual practices, and teachings on the Goddess traditions, The Path of the Priestess provides contemporary women with the means to enter this time-honored path. In keeping with the experientially based teaching methods of these traditions, it also offers exercises and visualizations designed to align women with the powerful, sensuous, and loving energies of the most profound feminine role model that shaped and preserved culture and society--the Great Goddess.

A crucial guidebook for dancers.......2004-02-17
I strongly recommend this book to all my dance students and all the members of my dance troupe! Dancers interested in channeling goddess energy will be thrilled to find a very readable story of how dance and spirituality can be explored together. I found the exercises profound -- they helped me explore how movement and gesture can help me feel, in my body, the divine energies of compassion, sensuality and strength, and how to convey these feelings to others. I always intuitively sensed that dance activates sacred energies -- Sharon's amazing scholarship and years of dancing has given her valuable insights and experience which confirm this. What a gem!
Mind Expanding and Boundless!.......2003-05-23
What a beautiful and eye opening homage to womankind from a spiritual seeker who has traveled such a great distance from her beginnings as an American feminist of the sixties. In the first chapter she describes her powerful initiation by a woman teacher ( Sitara Devi) into the ancient art of Indian temple dance, Hindu Tantra and women's mysteries. . ( I was pleased to see the photographs of Sharron with her teachers. I have read too many books about
spiritual seekers or anthropologists and the revelations they have received from their teachers without ever seeing an image of these teachers. Even though I have enjoyed these books I have often wondered whether the teachers were fictional
characters.)
From that point on, in the first section of the book she journeys into the deep realms of meditation, healing and visionary experience as she seeks out the ancient woman's mysteries in the traditions of Tibetan Tantra, Dzogchen,
Egyptian mysticism, Gnosticism and Kabbalah. As a woman seeking my own path to inner knowing, I found these chapters to be extremely beneficial and enlightening. Her experiences and insights into working with one's emotions, the way in
which she describes how painful experiences in childhood can impact both the physical body and its energy field and her search to find and relate paths to healing were particularly inspiring to me. I was also touched by the respect she
shows for her teachers and the humility she demonstrates as a seeker on the path.
As I continued to read, I was impressed with the courage she has in speaking out about the social, cultural and political issues that plague so many of us these days. Taking an ancient approach that values women in all their fullness as spiritual teachers, healers, mediators (today known as political activists
and politicians) and caretakers of our planet, she gave me a new and empowered view of my potential as a woman. Her vivid exercises designed to nspire ferocity in the face of danger, self-confidence and determination, joy, passion,
and mystery, love, humility and rapture have helped me to feel free to express the full range of my emotions. In addition, they have given me new strength to deal with the issues that plague me in my relationships with both men and
women. Her call for women to come together as they did in the days of old to shed the imprints of the patriarchy and create a more balanced, harmonious world is so exciting. I, like Sharron, feel the sadness and horror of the current
socio-political atmosphere. I too care about issues such as the negative and disturbing media induced visions of women, the destruction of our environment and the manner in which we and our children, have become experimental subjects
for the mind and body altering drugs of the pharmaceutical industry.
As an alternative to the limited visions of women offered to us by the media, in the last three chapters she offers myths, stories and meditations on the many manifestations of the Great Goddess who she describes as the most profound female role model to shape society. Stories such as the way the Hindu Goddess
Durga is created to fearlessly battle with and become victorious over our inner and outer demons gives us courage. Innana, who "revels in the fullness of her sensuous expression" presents a new view of sexual freedom. . Isis the
Egyptian goddess who is the great mother of Alchemy and the Western spiritual tradition shows us the great healing power that we all contain. These and her stories of female spiritual seekers such as Mirabai of India, Machig Lapdron of
Tibet, Mary Magdalene and Sharron's own powerful teacher Sitara Devi who fought throughout her life to transcend the limitations imposed upon her as a woman by modern Indian society have shown me that even though to some the world may
appear limited the only true limitations placed upon me are those created within the dark recesses of my own mind.
An inspirational tome of transcendental spirituality.......2003-04-08
The Path Of The Priestess: A Guidebook For Awakening The Divine Feminine by mythologist and metaphysician Sharron Rose is an impressive and "user friendly" spiritual guidebook of exercises and visualizations to understanding the metaphysical essence of being female. From exploring the divine roles of women, to the mysticism taught in traditions of Hebrew Kabbalists, Christian Gnostics, alchemists, and more, The Path Of The Priestess is an inspirational tome of transcendental spirituality embracing the role model of the Great Goddess. The Path Of The Priestess is strongly recommended reading for anyone seeking to understand the feminine experience as spiritual teachers, visionaries, peacekeepers, and archetypal models of the Great Goddess in Eastern and Western spiritual traditions.
A profound and joyous path for every woman.......2003-03-02
The Path of the Priestess is a profound and potent guidebook for women of the twenty first century. After reading it I realized that it is actually three books in one. Part one, which documents Ms. Rose's personal quest for the teachings and practices of woman's mysteries among the sacred societies of India, Tibet, Egypt and Alchemical Europe was reminiscent for me of writers such as Lynn Andrews and Carlos Casteneda. However, in this book, Ms. Rose not only sweeps you along with her on a magical journey into the trials and tribulations of an American seeker but also shows you the deep respect and reverence for woman and the Goddess as transmitted to her by the teachers and teachings she encounters. I also enjoyed the photographs of her together with these teachers.
From this impressive journey, in chapters five and six, she offers a fascinating commentary on the history of humanity and particularly the conditioning of women. In these two chapters she opens our eyes to the underlying motivation behind the repressive and controlling nature of the patriarchal forces that have increasingly dominated our lives. In addition she offers us a clear and vital alternative in which we as women can gain the strength and self-esteem to face up to these forces. At the same time she shows us how to work towards a more loving, peaceful and harmonious way of living. Chapter Six, Lifting the Veil from the Face of Modernity in which she contrasts the imprinting of women in contemporary society with that of these sacred societies is especially moving, perceptive and provocative. Her analysis of the goals, successes and failures of the feminist movement, gave me new insight into the ways in which we have been manipulated by the media. These two well-documented chapters recalled for me the nature of the work of scholars and writers such as Riane Eisler, Naomi Wolf and Marija Gimbutas. But in this book, Ms. Rose as an initiate into and practitioner of the ancient teachings offers us even greater insight into the essential roles of women.
As a woman who has always been sensitive to energy and emotion, I was particularly affected by her description of woman's role as the keepers of the psychic-energetic-emotional landscape of society. Honestly, after reading these chapters I began to see myself, and the ways in which I have been taught to interact with the world in a new way.
I found the last three chapters to be extremely beneficial. Reading the myths and stories of the Goddesses gave me a deeper understanding of the many facets of woman. The exercises that follow are written in a lush, poetic language that deeply touched me. After reading the book I purchased the Awakening the Feminine video series tapes in which Ms. Rose transmits the teachings and exercises found in these three chapters. I found these tapes to be extremely enriching and beneficial as well. I thank Sharron Rose for opening the door for me to a unique and extraordinary vision of the power, grace and majesty of womankind.
The Path of the Priestess: A Guidebook for Awakening the Div.......2003-02-27
Sharron's book is truly amazing. I could not put this book down. This book has profoundly affected my life. I felt like I was on the priestess journey with her as she travels all over globe. If you are ready to remember who you are and reclaim your divine priestess this book is a hands on guidebook to take you back home to yourself. Something very magical occurred for me while reading her book . . . It woke up my true inner source of divine feminine energy and since that day I have been manifesting and attracting the most spectacular events and things into my life. I'm extremely grateful to Sharron for having written this very important book. I believe our feminine essence is what is required for us to make a shift in our current world events. After reading this compelling and significant book, I found myself not being willing to accept the current circumstances as my reality and a new gentle authentic power has emerged.
I have recommended this book to my clients and everyone of them is experiencing similar breakthroughs. This is a must read!

Not the Most Compelling Trilogy.......2007-03-28
Fool's Gold is not the most compellling trilogy I've ever read. But I did like the first book enough to buy the others. There are three major groups of people -- Scandinavian-like, Mid-east-like and Gypsy-like, who interact, fight and are mistreated. There is an awful lot of violence, as wars are fought for foolish reasons and unlikely quests are made from greed. The characters are varied and some are quite likeable. There are a couple of real meanies who seem to be completely evil. Sexual language and situations are rampant, but more amusing than anything else. The southern cities seem to be much the same in description. There is a lot of killing, but the resurrection rate is high.
Woah!!.......2006-07-04
This book sums up the trilogy perfectly. Captivating from the beginning to the end, I have to blame this book for 2 - 3 late projects, but at the same time thank it for one of the most captivating reads i have had yet. The story was well paced and delivered with immaculate style. The constant swapping between caricatures was a stroke of genius, I was never left waiting and wondering what was happening with the many other caricatures.
11/10, one of the best reads i have had for a long time
Brilliant!.......2006-07-01
I have never posted a review before, but then I'd never written to an author before to say how much I loved a book either - until I read the final part of the Fool's Gold trilogy, Rose of the World. I might still not have written a review had I not noticed the number of negative postings while I was searching for more by Jude Fisher - okay, we all have different tastes, but I was still amazed; after all, Jude Fisher had just joined my list of favourite authors, alongside Tad Williams, George RR Martin, Tolkien and Robert Jordan!
I'm not a literary critic and I struggle to explain why I was so enthralled by this story. I love remote Scottish islands and Norwegian fiords and perhaps I felt an empathy with the people and landscapes of Katla Arensen's world. But a novel needs characters who make that world come to life - and that's what happens here. I liked having characters who made mistakes; who sometimes survived more through luck than judgment, but who are infinitely more real than the chisel-jawed Robert Langdons of popular literature. Surely having less-than-perfect characters only adds to the unpredictability of the story? I suppose I'm saying that Jude Fisher's characters (both human and divine) have depth and, therefore, believability.
I also found it a refreshing change for an author to treat me like a grown-up. This is not a trilogy for children; if it was, the often graphic sexual references and the horrors of death and sadism would have been toned down into euphemism and goodies killing baddies who deserved to get their comeuppance!
So please, do not be put off by some of the other reviews. If you enjoy fantasy by the authors I've mentioned, and especially if you like Mary Gentle's `Ash' and `1610', then I'm certain you'll love this. Rose of the World is a brilliant book which concludes a brilliant trilogy. I, for one, want to read more about the adventures of Saro, Tam and Katla. A definite 5 stars!
A brilliant series.......2006-06-27
I never post reviews normally, but I was so flabbergasted by the negative reviews posted for this excellent book, the end to what I think is one of the finest epic series I've ever read, that I couldn't just sit back and do nothing. I've passed The Fool's Gold trilogy on to my mom, my aunt, my cousins and lots of friends and they've all loved it, so I really don't understand where all this negativity is coming from. I like the way the story goes from character to character - it gives a sense of how huge this fantasy world is, and the balance Jude Fisher strikes between the cosmic and magical and the real human stories is quite breathtaking. There are flaws, sure: but there's no such thing as a perfect book, right? And I think the flaws (the end is just a bit too neatly done for my liking - I think maybe it should have been 4 books, not 3) suggest that when this interesting writer produces another book, she will be even better. If you like George RR Martin's Ice and Fire books, or Robin Hobb's Assassin series, you'll love this trilogy, I promise you. Don't take any notice of the reviews: get hold of a copy and make your own mind up. For me 5 stars.
It's not all bad, but it does have issues.......2006-04-16
Three ? stars. This is a very large and awkward book, but I'm not sure that it deserves the flack that the other readers are delivering. Admittedly, there are flaws. However, it wasn't that bad. I just skipped most of the stuff about Aran Aranson, like I did in the last book (Not Interested in the greedy idiot!). I do think that Jude Fisher either tried to tie things up to neatly within the trilogy or just tried to fit to many characters into a trilogy. The flaw might be a combination of both of these comments. I didn't find it that confusing of difficult, just to reliant upon convenience (oh, we just tripped over a god, lets go finish this?!?) to bring the characters together for the "final showdown." The conclusion is a far cry from my hopes when the series started. If you liked Sorcery Rising, please try Jennifer Fallon's Second Son's Trilogy or Transformation, Revelation, and Restoration by Carol Berg (avoid most of the D'Arnath stuff).

This is a darn good book.......2006-12-09
This is a darn good book. If you like poetry, and I do, then you will love this book, cause it's filled with it.
When you read it, it makes you feel good, like when you are in your rocking chair sitting out on the front porch. Sometimes it rocks smooth and easy, and other times it rocks hard and really makes you think what life is all about.

Venus is out of this world.......2006-11-03
Amazing book. I have read it many times and it inspires me each time.
An emotional delight.......2006-09-20
She Rose is a beautiful, inspiring book filled with poetry that touches the soul of the reader. The poems range from magical to commanding. Each poem gives the reader an emotional stroke.
A Revolutionary Project.......2006-06-20
A fragrant rose amongst many thorns, She Rose: On a Journey from Girl to Goddess is entrenched in the tradition. Often, many ask why poets and spoken word artists, who come to us from the margin, must make waves in the societal ocean. Venus Jones clearly answers, "I want...women and the underrepresented everywhere to rise to their fullest potential so they may promise every nation a brighter and more beautiful future." She comes carrying the voices and visions of poets and writers such as Langston Hughes and Audre Lorde. Her words are not the distant and static monologues produced by so many other poets who lack a connection to what is humane. For Venus, poetry is not a luxury. It is a consciousness raising act, a call to be present and heard in a world that seeks to envelop us in the silencing clouds of materialism, sexual violence, racism, homophobia, poverty, war, environmental destruction and blind patriotism. There are indeed depths of wisdom in her metaphor and rhyme. For a new generation of poetic soldiers, Venus Jones and She Rose comes to us right on time.

Essential Reading for the Formation of Sacred Space.......2000-02-03
For any who cast &/or work within Sacred Circles, this book is a must! Knight very clearly & simply describes the dynamics of the Magic Circle, and then goes on to place it in the context of several mystical philosophies; Pagan Greece & Egypt, Rosicrucian work, and more. His key point & common denominator is the Magic Circle as the manifestation of the Divne Feminine.
