Book Description
Diana Palmer's legions of fans will be dazzled by this breathtaking novel, available in print for the first time in over a decade.
At the tender age of twenty-four, Rebecca Cullen found life much too complicated. She worked a full-time job, raised her two teenage brothers, supported her retired grandfather and tended to their Georgia farm. When her troubled brother Clay was arrested on drug charges, Rebecca's life suddenly began to come apart at the seams. the last thing she needed was the district attorney on the case to be arrogant, rude -- and the handsomest man she's ever seen.
Word on the street was that Rourke Kilpatrick was notorious for his hard line against drug dealers. He used whatever means necessary to prosecute them. But Rebecca's brother was innocent. And when the antidrug Rourke began to sympathize with Rebecca and her family, she couldn't help but admit her sizzling attraction to him.
As passions flared between them, innocent Rebecca dared to hope that her narrow world might finally be opening up to include someone like Rourke -- sophisticated, sensual and exciting.
Every time she was with him, she felt like Cinderella at the ball. All she wanted was to feel his arms wrapped around her, his strong body pressed up against hers.
But is the man she's falling in love with just using her to pursue a drug dealer? Now Rebecca will have to decide which is stronger: Rourke's passion for the law -- or for her.

When Rebecca Cullen's teenaged brother was arrested on drug charges, she had no choice but to appeal to tough-on-drug-offenders D.A. Rourke Kilpatrick. Rourke showed sympathy, concern...and interest? But as Rebecca was falling for him, how could she be sure he wasn't just using her in his investigation? Could she really trust a man who had the power to destroy her -- and break her heart?

Not Good..........2007-01-30
Rourke started out a great hero, but this author can never keep a hero 'cool' through an entire book. (Plus, nothing wrong with smoking cigars, but did she have to let Rourke smoke practically one right after the other? And even back then, he should have been considerate enough not to smoke in an elevator full of people.)
Becky was a pretty good character but those brothers? There was a 10 year old and a 17 year old and the author had them talking like adults. I wish D.P. would learn how to give teens and pre-teens dialogue true to their ages. Even Rourke's lines were extremely formal, and not 'everyday' speech.
Decent hero for a change!!.......2007-01-06
Usually Diana's heroes are macho men without much common sense, this hero was thoughtful and did seem to reach out to her entire family in their time of need. Being the D.A. and tough on drug offenders her brother put their relationship in a great deal of jeopardy. Rourke was tough but really great with the conflict in her family concerning their relationship.
I never got the feeling that Rourke was using Rebeccah to find evidence against her brother or the gang that was trying so hard to get him involved. To me it was an excuse to get close to Rebeccah. I thought this was a nice easy read and enjoyed the book. I also recommend Lawless although the hero in that book was a bit thick.
Night Fever - running a temperature!.......2006-12-12
I always try to suspend belief when I read these romances. That being said, I thought Pru was a little too prudish in the way of the world. Her being a virgin didnt bother me as much as she seemed a little too over protected from things especially living with 3 men: her grandfather and two brothers for heaven sake!!
Roarke was great but I had to remember this was 1990 when every other sentence with him in it had him attached to this cigar! In the elevator, cafes, hospital whatever!! Have you ever kissed a man who has been smoking a cigar? Well, I have and it is NOT pleasant. Let's hope it was a cheroot!!! :D:D:D:D:D But the rest of him was written quite well.
It was an amusing romance, sensuality a 6. Drugs and law are popular topics; never seeming to go out of style, unfortunately. Read the book quite quickly and it moved along nicely. Now on to more serious reading. These foo foo books are raising my blood sugar!
A good book for Palmer fans.......2006-07-21
Night fever is an engaging people-story, with a heavy dose of romance. It was a good read all-around, but that's not to say there weren't a few things that I didn't like.
Palmer does a great job with character development and depth in the book. She gives you a nice picture of each character, and doesn't leave you wondering about any aspect of them. I liked both Rebecca and Rourke, and their relationship was sweet. I really enjoyed the slow, steady progression of their relationship, where they got to know each other and became friends first. It's nice to read something like that for a change. At times I felt Palmer wrote Rebecca to be a bit too provincial and naive - I think I knew more about sex and the world at 11 yrs old (in 1990) than Rebecca knew at 24. And I thought she was at times a bit too clueless, but I suppose that fits with the country-girl image Palmer was cultivating. Still, it was a nice romance with good characters.
As for the overall story line - while not exactly meaty - it was a good dynamic to put the characters in. The book is a bit simplistic, but it works for the situations and characters, because they book isn't about the actions and "plot" but more about the characters. The law aspect, and "realities" of the drug-war and legal system were nicely written and, to a certain degree, thought provoking. True, the information is dated because the book was originally written in 1990, but you just have to keep that in mind while reading. With that being said, I thought the ending - the resolution of Clay's situation - was rushed and not quite clear. Palmer leaves a little bit too much as being implied. And the resolution between Rebecca and Rourke was a little disjointed and sudden. I didn't think enough had been said to put things right between them.
Overall, though, Night Fever is a good people-drama/romance. If you enjoy Palmer's other books, you'd probably like this one as well.

Good love story, poor editing.......2006-04-12
Rebecca Cullen is 24 years old and struggles to support her two brothers and her grandfather. She is determined to do it all without asking for anyone's help. Her mother died when she was younger, and their father left them. Rourke Kilpatrick is the local district attorney with a steely determination to bring criminals to justice. Rourke happens to be working temporarily in the same building as Becky. Their first meeting is not exactly a romantic encounter. Things are not easy as Becky falls for Rourke at the same time that her brother Clay is getting in trouble with the law. Overall it was a decent love story but editorial errors spoil the smooth flow of the narrative.
Book Description
If a generation is defined by what it wears, what does the “I’m With Stupid” T-shirt craze say about the 1970s? Nothing, Maureen Valdes Marsh explains, that wasn’t already hinted at by palazzo pants and topstitched leisure suits. In this picture-packed book, she examines these and other fashion imponderables of the decade. Through text, photos, and trivia, the book leads readers through the closets of an era that took a great leap forward, fashion-wise. Style disassociated itself from the past as self-expression took hold. Women, entering the work force in droves, exchanged their mothers’ housecoats for pants suits and maxi dresses. And men, determined to keep up, stepped out in vivid Quiana dress shirts and ties of incomprehensible width. 70s Fashion Fiascos documents it all — from thankfully brief fads like roller disco and feathered hair to styles that endured such as graphic tee’s — and does it with wit and affection.

Worth it for the photos.......2007-06-04
This book is much smaller than I expected it to be looking at it on the computer screen when I ordered it. However, it does have lots of great photos and resources and I'd say its worth getting for your collection or it would make a great gift. I wish it would have gone by year, rather than style. Also I hoped that by the name "fashion fiascos" we would see more extreme styles of platform boots and shoes and other stereotypically 70's styles. Don't get me wrong, there are some, but not nearly as many as I'd thought and most of the book focuses on the "Marsha Brady" era of clothes, more so than the later 70's when you had a totally different style that was more 80's than 60's. The style of hair worn by somebody like Pam Dawber on Mork and Mindy in 1979 was radically different than the hard, sculpted styles of the earlier 70's. Clothes changed as radically as music did in the 70's. Even the sound of disco between the early stuff like "That's the Way I like it" was radically different from the later Disco sounds, such as Donna Summer and that change took place within only 5 years. Perhaps the author would do a Fashion Fiascos Vol 2 to include the onset of Disco to the end of the 1970s. This book doesn't even feature a John Travolta white suit. Still, aside from everything, it is a nice book for my collection and reference for those who sew period clothing.
The fashion police as their best........2007-05-07
Very funny fashion overview of the 70s fashion fiascos.
AWESOME and FUN book!! .......2007-02-13
This is a fantastic, high quality book in full color (wouldn't get the effect if it was in black & white, that's for sure!). It brings back memories of when I was a kid in the 70's. It's like looking through the old photo albums and making fun of what mom and dad were wearing. The color pictures, the ads, the history, the little tidbits of info.. what fun! Sure to bring back memories for anyone who was around in the 70's, and some of the fashions will.. well.. make you cringe. :) The book even gives some shopping resources on where to find some of these vintage 70's fashions if you'd want to dress like that. Overall, a very fun book! I love it! I hope Maureen Valdes Marsh comes up with an 80's fashion book.
A Marvelous Book About Horrendous Fashion!.......2006-11-16
When first 70s Fashion Fiascos: Studio 54 to Saturday Night Fever by Maureen Valdes Marsh crossed my desk, I admit, I screamed in horror. The caftan on the book cover alone was enough to put me in a swoon. But a pleading letter came with it, begging me to give this book my imprimatur.
Look it up.
Little did I know that I would be swept up by its contents: a blend of American social history, wit, and truly hideous clothes! Ms. Marsh is a marvelous writer, with a knack for the mot juste. Of leisure suits, she writes, "Color became the key to individuality, and no shade was too effeminate for the 1970s man to wear."
Since the youth of today has taken a great interest in the clothing of the decade, Ms. Marsh has even provided an up-to-date Shopping Resource Guide in the back.

A Trip Down Memory Lane.......2006-10-25
What a cool book! It brought me back to the optimism of the 70's. Ms. Valdes Marsh really knows her stuff and has the ads to prove it. The book is well laid out with an incredible array of fashion photos from the 70's (when fashion don'ts were fashion do's). Sadly, I must admit I actually thought I spotted a couple of my own fashions from high school days...

The origin of many threads in the series..........2001-11-18
As in all the anthologies in this series, FEVER SEASON's stories are written in a braided format, so that the effect is almost seamless as the events of the book flow forward. My comments are organized more by author than by appearance in the book.
Cherryh's own story, "Fever Season", is the thread around which the others develop. There's been no Plague, only the Crud, but since Mondragon hasn't fully adapted to Merovingen's local germs, he is seriously ill. At this point in the series, the Takahashi brothers move into Mondragon's place, so that he can be cared for without publicly showing weakness.
Abbey, Lynn: "Life Assurance" - More about the Kamats, particularly Richard, beginning with lunch at the Ramsey Bell, the tavern frequented by heirs and second sons of trading houses. (As Richard's peers are mostly his father's generation, he still eats at the Bell - a fine place to pick up information.) Jordie Slade, one of Kamat's workers, has disappeared, so Richard, with a Kamat's sense of responsibility, investigates the matter personally. Eleanora, Jordie's wife (or is she a widow?), appears for the first time.
Asire, Nancy: "Night Ride" - When 6 men attack a youngster on a walkway, Justice Lee rescues the kid - who turns out to be Raj. Raj wants to know how an Adventist got into the College (no real Revenantist would get involved in a stranger's karma). He'd give anything for the College's medical training...
Fish, Leslie: "War of the Unseen Worlds" - Rif appears at Jones' tie-up to collect on her promise (see Festival Moon, "First Night Cruise") to help Rif on her next run through the city.
Lackey, Mercedes: "A Plague On Your Houses" - Raj has 2 apparently hopeless dreams - a crush on Marina Kamat, and becoming a doctor. As it happens, Raj'd be a fairly good doctor; he knows a lot of swampy herb lore...enough, maybe, to save the life of one Thomas Mondragon, if Raj can trade get the drugs he needs from the swamp.
Unfortunately, Raj leaves anonymous poems for Marina Kamat. When she catches him, she believes his 'I'm-just-a-messenger' tale - then traces him to Mondragon's place(!). The consequences of Raj's actions come home to roost in subsequent volumes.
Morris, Chris: "Hearts and Minds" - Cardinal Ito Boregy, conducting Mike Chamoun's catechism sessions, bitterly resents Cassie's betrothal to this Adventist convert. Consequently, he spices up the lessons with a 'sacrament' of hallucinogenic deathangel powder - with major consequences, as Mike apparently has visions of a past life.
Morris, Janet: "Instant Karma" - Here is the 'sharrh overflight' we hear so much about in later books, which panics the city...but are the sharrh really responsible?
The appendix on Merovingen ecology discusses Epidemiology 101 (this town is making me sick), Pharmacology 101, Aquatic Ecology 101 (what's to eat?), 102 (what's eating you?), and Oceanography 101 (whose fault is it?)

Kolchak the Night Stalker: Fever Pitch: Moonstone's first all-original Kolchak story! Guts-Mayhem-KOLCHAK! For three nights straight, some poor innocent spontaneously combusts in front of a horrified witness. Like chain links, the previous night's witness is the following evening's victim. But who's behind these deaths? The Wolfman? An Anaconda? A Giant Spider? According to police reports, these three monsters were spotted at the scene. Kolchak, hot with the flu, makes a little report of his own that adds up to some life saving advice-NEVER TURN YOUR BACK ON FEAR! Written by award-winning mystery novelist Stuart M. Kaminisky!
Customer Reviews:
Kolchalk fans will adore it........2004-01-21
This entry in the reborn Kolchak: The Night Stalker starts off with a bang, literally. An old woman steps into an ice cream shop and promptly explodes in front of the owner, who turns away because he then sees a werewolf leaping out of the woman. No surprise that that little tidbit snatches the attention of reporter Carl Kolchak, who happens upon the scene. The mystery becomes more gruesome when the ice cream shop owner explodes in front of someone a day or so later. Obviously something very odd is happening around Los Angeles.
Fever Pitch does a credible job of capturing the flavor of the cult TV show (and it follows the contemporizing that Mark Dawdiziak did in his Kolchak novel Grave Secrets - placing the series characters in Los Angeles). Kolchak still has a hard time making those around him believe the outlandish stories he runs across with regularity and the humor of the show is retained. My only complaint is that the monster is poorly thought out and the explanation given (while certainly unique) is nowhere near clear enough to satisfy. Nonetheless, the characters still look and act the way they did on the show and fans will certainly want this in their collections. I know I did. Kolchak lives!
Captures the spirit of the series.......2003-11-02
A gory story of exploding bodies with the witness of the phenomena becoming the next victim has Kolchak on the case. This graphic novel (basically a comic book with professional graphics and high quality paper) recaptures the spirit of the original series, including its humor. The running gag has Carl with a cold receiving advice from everyone he encounters about the best treatment. The main story is well told and paced with the ending being just a bit loose. Fans should know that this issue, and I believe the others in the Moonstone series, do place Carl in a contemporary setting. So while Carl and the rest of the cast look like they did in the 1970s TV show, the 21st century Carl writes his reports on a computer not his familiar typewriter from the series. Overall, I believe fans of the show, and even those unfamiliar with it, will enjoy this read.

The Carringtons at their very best!.......2004-08-29
Kiss & Tell is a series of three novels for Harlequin Blaze by the sizzling, talented writing team of Lori and Tony a.k.a. Tori Carrington. Jack, Reilly, Mallory and Layla were good friends. Since all three women found Jake attractive, to keep the friendship from getting nasty with sharp objects, the women make a pact that Jack if off-limits to all of them. In Night Fever (Blaze #105) we have Layla's story. And in typical "Tori" fashion, this one burns. What for finger-singeing!
Dr. Layla Hollister is not looking forward to meeting her new boss Dr. Sam Lovejoy. Lovejoy is the bodyworks man for Hollywood celebs, giving, adding what they don't have, and taking away what they have too much of! Since Layla is a dedicated GP, she sees this sort of medicine as an insult to her profession. Only, Dr. Lovejoy has been put in charge of Trident Medical Center where Layla works. When she meets the sexy, blond man in a trendy dinner club, she does not expect the man with the bedroom eyes is none other than her boss. He gathers from the short conversation they have, that she will immediately stop the flirting if she learned he was none other than the very boss she is making snide comments about. So, he holds his silence, hoping to get to know her.
The next morning, Layla learns that the sexy stranger is her new boss. She does not want to have an "in-house romance", having been burned by another doctor representing himself as single when he was not. Despite that and her anger over him being a plastic surgeon, she cannot stop the attraction she feels for the unusual man. He has a good sense of humor, and he is oh so sexy!
Sam's sister Heather gets on his case for loving them and leaving them, and says he should try to actually have a real relationship with a woman for a change. Sam tries. As he tries, he becomes aware that Layla is not. She likes the hot times in the sheets, but she is not expecting it to last. Frankly, since the poor lass is working 40 hours a week at her job and another 40 at a clinic for low income, one can forgive her for not having her thinking cap on!
The characters are dead on real. They are funny, loving, people you might meet on the street. Chalk up another winner for the Carrington duo!
Sizziling! Very highly recommended.......2003-11-17
Dr Layla Hollister enjoys the latest Hollywood gossip rag while she waits for friends to join her at a restaurant. Unexpectedly, a hunky stranger approaches her. Sam Lovejoy believes that she must be a model with her good looks and natural assets in a town where everyone seems to have had plastic surgery. Indeed, before becoming the new administrator of Trident Medical Center, he had performed plastic surgery on a large section of the rich and famous.
Layla's initial negative comments about the new administrator lead him to conceal his identity and enjoy their evening before she discovers who Sam is. When Layla does learn his identity, she is frustrated to realize she had been attracted to a man with a reputation as a lady's man. Worse, she fears that her determination to retain her natural assets rather than improve them with cosmetic surgery would endanger a relationship with a man whose career centers around appearances.
Writing team Tori Carrington once again pens a marvelous romance in NIGHT FEVER, the first of the Kiss and Tell miniseries. A sensual feast with surprising depth of characterization, NIGHT FEVER really turns up the heat. Layla's past presents her with insecurities that are hard to overcome even as Sam learns lessons of judging others and love. A feisty read that uniquely balances the male and female perspective as only this writing duo can do, NIGHT FEVER comes very highly recommended.
A Blazing Romance With Hidden Values.......2003-10-28
Layla Hollister is sitting in the bar of a restaurant as she waits to have dinner
with her three best friends. She drops what she's reading and her interest peaks when a drop-dead gorgeous man asks if the empty stool beside her is taken. Sexual sparks begin
to fly as they are instantly attracted to each other. He thinks the elegant woman
with the sultry voice and long legs just has to be a model. They strike up a
conversation and Sam hits a `hot button' when he asks this natural beauty
`who did her nose'. It isn't an unusual question in this town of L.A., but an insecure Layla doesn't appreciate the comment-like question. She's in a bad mood anyway;
she's a general practitioner at the Medical Center and has a new boss she's
she dislikes, even though she's never met him. His reputation as a womanizer precedes
him. Well.....guess who this handsome hunk is? Uh-huh! The famous - or
infamous, depending on what you know about him - Sam Lovejoy, one of
the best cosmetic, reconstructive surgeons anywhere, and the new senior staff
administrator of the Medical Center.
Sam is definitely interested in this sexy number sitting beside him, and lady killer that he is, he isn't going to pass up the opportunity to get to know her tonight, even if
she hates him tomorrow, so he skates around his name, rank, and serial
number. He does get the opportunity to satisfy his curiosity to see if she
tastes as good as she looks, and drools when she does. Ah, but just at that moment, her cell phone rings and she's off to answer an emergency call. Sam has a feeling he may have seen the last of her beautiful smile since Layla Hollister just happens to be the first appointment on his agenda to meet the staff tomorrow morning.
The Carrington duo heat the pages with the electricity and passion flowing between
Layla and Sam. But more than that, they delve into Layla's past to show where and
why she has so many insecurities to cause her reactions as an adult, and they allow Sam
to point this out to Layla. Layla gets her turn to teach Sam a few lessons about love and
judgments, too. It's a gift or a talent, but by whatever name you choose, don't miss
the values, morals and relationships the Carringtons have written into this sensual offering as they deepen the story and fulfill fantasies. NIGHT FEVER is the first
in a mini series featuring four close friends. After reading this one, be sure to watch for Harlequin Blaze #109, FLAVOR OF THE MONTH, Reilly's story to be released
in November.
Carol Carter - As written for Romance Reviews Today
NIGHT FEVER is a ýtoriýd tale of romance.......2003-10-14
Dr. Layla Hollister of the Trident Medical Center takes her work seriously, so much so that she is perhaps the only female in Los Angeles County not interested in acting. It is not shocking that she is upset to learn that the new senior staff administrator is Dr. Sam Lovejoy, a man noted for his string of women on his arms as much as his cosmetic surgical enhancement of female lungs.
Layla was to meet friends for a girl's night out, but they canceled at the last moment. Instead she talks with an enchanting stranger who suddenly tastes her lips in a way that shakes the prim Layla to the core. She cannot believe the pleasure she has felt over one stolen kiss that leaves her craving for more. However, the next morning, Layla is rudely awakened from her fantasy when she realizes her new superior is the stud that shook her to the core with one lip lock. Layla refuses to mix pleasure and business even though every cell in her body desires him while Sam expects more melting bones kisses from his delightful employee.
As expected from the Carrington crew, NIGHT FEVER is a "tori"d tale of romance between two doctors whom never felt love before. The story line engages the audience from the moment of the kiss and turns hotter and faster in rapid order. Fans will gain plenty of pleasure from this delightful tale and look forward to the future Kiss and Tell stories from this wonderful writing duo.

Welcome to Dreamland.......2000-05-12
Ray Bradburt does it again! In Fever Dream, Ray Bradbruy spins an enchanting tale that reminds my of Little Nemo, about a boy who embarks on a quest through-dream land. The resulting work is nothing less than magical and is not to be missied by anyone. If you are looking for a book you will cherish forever, this is it! Peace.
