Book Description
Where are all the exciting men in London?
After spending years in the glittering ballrooms of the ton, Amanda Cynster is utterly bored by the current crop of colorless suitors. Determined to take matters into her own hands, one night she shockingly goes where no respectable lady ever should, but where many an intriguing gentleman might be found.
But titillating excitement quickly turns to panic when Amanda discovers she's quite out of her depth. She looks around for help -- and is unexpectedly rescued by the Earl of Dexter. Lean, sensuous, and mysterious, he has delayed re-entering society, preferring instead a more interesting existence on its fringes.
He's the epitome of the boldly passionate gentleman Amanda has been searching for, but although his very touch makes it clear he's willing to educate her in the art of love, Amanda has to wonder if such a masterful, lionized rake can be sufficiently tamed into the ways of marriage.

Blah, Blah, Oooh, Blah, Blah.......2007-02-07
I felt that the author wrote the same ol' things over and over. She explained too many times how Amanda and Dexter felt, and why they couldn't do certain things. She seemed to be trying to fill up pages to make the book longer.
But I gotta tell ya.......I adored the love scenes!
Amanda's Story Is A Winner!.......2006-11-26
ON A WILD NIGHT is a very enjoyable read! Another wonderful Cynster novel!
Bar Cynsters are Sinister........2006-04-19
This is my second Laurens book, as anyone who has looked through my earlier reviews knows. I'm a firm believer in giving most authors a second glance, but this book is the absolute finito. Must Stephanie Laurens insist on page after page of the same old cliche' Regency England couples breeding like rabbits? It's good to know we'll always have bunnies but, my God anyway, her books wouldn't be so long if we didn't always have page after page of perfect interludes that always involve the same old terms like "total surrender," "heated flesh," and "plunging tongues."
The characters have no depth--in fact, I think Laurens drew them on cardboard and cut them out--and the murder plot involves everyone being guilty because they ALL look like Martin to Amanda (Everybody sing "You are Everything and Everything is You" now.). In fact the only deep thing in this book is how deep, deeper, and deeper still Martin plunges into her during those long, boring sex scenes. For God's sake, is this girl bottomless or something? YEESH!
If nothing else, this book is a great example in how NOT to write a novel, and the fact that this Bar Cynster series has gone on way too long is proof positive that even the most stagnant, unoriginal authors can keep getting work. Great news for a late blooming upstart like yours truly. For more depth of character, I suggest old Dick and Jane books.
The women Cynsters have their turn.......2006-04-11
This is twin Amanda's story and the first female cynster novel in this series. Amanda is now 23 and has not found her mate from among the ton, she is picky and wants someone like her infamous cousins. What does she do, but go into the least acceptable places for a young lady looking for her hero. She finds him in Martin, Earl of Dexter. He has long ago forsaken the ton because of a long ago scandal. When Amanda finds herself in a sticky situation, Martin comes to her rescue and agrees to squire her around the more scandalous parts of the ton to protect her from danger. Amanda schemes to get him to the altar but knows she can't be obvious or he will run in the other direction. There are lots of steamy sex scenes in this book, but they are tastefully written into the story.
When Amanda finally suceeds in getting a proposal she finds she doesn't want to accept it without a declaration of love. Martin is afraid to declare love, because he was hurt by those he loved wrongly believing he murdered a man years ago.
Amanda knows Martin must clear his name in order to be able to love her freely. What happens next is a whirlwind investigation into who the real murderer is.
The only problem with this book is it tended to be a bit long and the real killer easy to predict. However, I think the female Cynster novels are as good as the others.
boring and unbelievable.......2006-03-10
I didn't like this book because the characters were really annoying and the love scenes were too wordy and dull. This is the second book I've read of Stephanie Laurens. I really wanted to like this author because she's supposedly one of the best historical romance authors out there. However, I don't think I'll be reading anymore of her books. This book was really borring and unrealistic. For a great historical romance, read one of these authors: Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn, Pamela Britton (her historical ones), Lorraine Heath (her historical regencies), Kathleen Woodiwiss...

A Must Read for Every Man.......2007-05-14
I bought this book when I was 49. This book was everything that I had hoped and more. By following the instructions in this book, and exercising, I was able to make love all night long and experience total body orgazisms and keep going. I had girls calling me for dates. I only wish that I had discovered this book when I was younger. Now that my boys are older, I'm buying two more copies for them.
Clench WHAT? Definitely requires a Personal Trainer.......2007-01-31
Eh..
this book was ok. interesting in the fact that it was written by a woman who is a "professional sex surrogate". if that's not a euphimism, I don't know what is.
written from a female perspective, it may seem to be an easy thing to do as she suggests, and some of her male 'colleagues' are reported to be doing these tightening maneuvers, however, just as some people may be able to roll their R's, their tongues, or cross their eyes, others simply cannot, for whatever reason.
I just think a little more disclosure would be prudent to avoid returns - :D
Huge surge of confidence.......2006-09-21
Guys, this book is a must have. We've all heard about working your PC muscle out to last as long as you want. Well, this book tells you that but it goes so much deeper. It has a lot of fun exercises (especially if you have a partner). Even if you just halfway follow her instructions, you'll accomplish amazing results. My confidence has skyrocketed because I had mastered the technique. Trust me, BUY THIS BOOK!
EVERY GUY SHOULD KNOW THIS SECRET!.......2006-09-14
Bought this book 11 years ago. It's so simple to learn and confidence becomes your middle name. Never be afraid of not satisfying any woman ever again!!!
straight to the point.......2006-03-09
This book is a great (and entertaining) reference for those looking to improve or expand their love life. DR Keesling does a wonderful job with a often frustrating topic. She does well by approaching the subject with simple knowledge and humor.

Book Description
This volume emphasizes an aspect of children's picture books that has not yet been thoroughly investigated: structure. Both concept books and picture storybooks employ very distinctive structures that, once mastered, can be applied to any picture book you wish to write. When so many of the best picture books employ the same structures, it is important to analyze these structures, understand why they work, and learn how to incorporate them into your own writing. This volume helps you do all that. You will see that no matter how carefully you labor over the tone, word choice, plot, character, setting, theme and style of your picture book, you must have a thorough grasp of its structure if you wish your book to succeed. Indeed, you will find that an expert command of structure is the key to writing a successful children's picture book.
Customer Reviews:
Very helpful.......2007-10-07
I have at least a dozen books on writing for children and I especially like this one. Not only does it focus exclusively on picture books, which few others do, it provides solid, concrete information that you can apply directly to your own writing. Too many other books offer vague tips that may be helpful in polishing an existing manuscript, but don't help with building your story from the ground up. I've been trying (sporadically) to sell picture book manuscripts for several years now, and I believe that what I've learned from this book will help get me closer to my goal of being a published author. Volumes II and III are on their way to me now and I can't wait to see what they have to offer!
How to write a Children's Picture Book.......2007-03-22
The book takes popular children's book and breaks apart the beginning, middle and ending so that you get a very clear picture of how your story should progess. An excellent resource.
A Constant Companion.......2007-01-02
Eve Heidi Bine-Stock's HOW TO WRITE A CHILDREN'S PICTURE BOOK (VOLUMES I, II and III)is a constant companion and rich resource in the planning and revision of picture books. The deconstruction of picture books, and the detailed classification of crucial characteristics - using classic picture books to illustrate each detailed point - make these books invaluable. Although I particularly use Volume I and II in the planning stage of a new manuscript, all three volumes are again by my side during each revision, and each step of each revision. There is no question in my mind that these books are the biggest resource in pushing my writing to the next level. The volumes are not read-once-and-put-aside books; they are books you will want on your writing desk for constant reference.
Practical, Easy-to-use.......2004-11-11
As an author of many books for children, I found this book to be one of the most practical and helpful tools to format a picture book during the writing process. I'm already using the techniques to structure new projects to make my picture book manuscripts shine! I plan on recommending it to my critique group as well as buying copies as gifts for my writer friends.
A "must-have" for any aspiring children's picturebook writer.......2004-06-07
How To Write A Children's Picture Book focuses especially upon structure as the key to creating a memorable and entertaining treasure for children to read, share, and learn from. Distinguishing between picturebooks and picture storybooks, and closely examining such enduring children's classics as "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and "Where The Wild Things Are", How To Write A Children's Picture Book is a highly useful and focused guide that dissects the nuts and bolts of writing with a keen eye toward higher achievement and quality. A "must-have" for any aspiring children's picturebook writer.
Book Description
Meet Mykonos: scurrilous madmanand voice of truth. Wild Nights presents David Deida's remarkable account of his days with the unconventional teacher who revealed to him the deeper wisdom of the erotic path to the divine. From our very first encounter to the "burden of bliss" that is his parting gift, Mykonos challenges our understanding of what makes a spiritual life. Brutally candid, he offers his teaching to anyone ready to listen, with an uncanny ability to see into the hearts and minds of his students better than they can their own. Charged with provocative scenes of unbridled passion and play, Wild Nights explodes with spiritual insights into our choice to "open as love, or close and suffer"
yogic sexual techniques including circular breathing and expanding feeling beyond the self and into the heart of a lover
and why, for some, full sexual expression is a requirement of spiritual maturation. For its honest depiction of the spiritual teacher and student relationshipand the questions it demands we ask about our own sexualityWild Nights proclaims David Deida a guiding light in the often cloudy realm of sex and spirit.
Customer Reviews:
F**K.......2007-09-25
I LOVED this book and read it in a sitting. As soon as I was done I passed the book along to a friend, but now I want to read it again. And again.
'Tis not for the faint of heart, or those who are easily offended by the F-Bomb being used repeatedly and often times in the same sentence as God. This book has seriously shaken my perspective on love, spirituality, and sex.
I have more Deida on the way to me now!
Adds colour to the Deida oevre.......2007-04-12
Deida has written so many guides to emotion and spiritual growth, so it was refreshing here to get a much more colourful sequence of lessons. Though his own experiences with an intensely charismatic teacher, the book is a sequence of extraordinary anecdotes that inspire and entertain as well as teach. While I get a lot out of his other books, especially Finding God through Sex, this is a great companion book.
Destined to be a classic. This book will ravish a generation. .......2007-03-22
As shocking and transformational as the Marquis de Sade's "Philosophy of the Boudoir" and Plato's "Dialogues" rolled into one. A truly profound book which will resonate with you long after reading it, wolfed down in one sitting most likely. This feels like Kerouac's California 50 years on: the ardent yab yum enlightenment of today's dharma seekers. Refreshingly honest, open and inclusive, "Wild Nights" will chime with anybody who has wanted to pursue the ineffable truths we often encounter using sex or drugs, but rarely find words to express. This book will ravish a generation. Destined to be a classic.
shocking! excellent! .......2005-09-01
this book is one of the best i`ve ever read, and i read my share. but then i deeply respect and admire david deida, and have experienced time after time that even reading his works can open ones heart up and give taste of the deeper realm.
this book has scenes that is quite interesting, to say the least - and it is a great test to "stay open, as love" or suffer from the hearts contraction, fear and aversion.
one of my late inner fascinations is the truth that we will have to accept lifes ambiguities. rarely can one find masters and teachers like ramana maharshi, for instance, which are nothing but saintly purity. krishnamurti is an example of a wise man, strongly illuminated and full of wisdom. then, another time, he is clearly full of prejudgement and aversion. so most people would say "oh, he is so wise and beautiful" (which is true), and other would say "he is an angry and judgemental old man" (which is also true).
this books exposes clearly that one will have to accept the complexities, and trust ones inner, deepest truth.
and of course, my short review can`t make justice to the richness and variety of insights. mostly it is about the heart, about love and openness. i will soon read it again, and if you believe you can get anything out of it (without retracting into judgemental attitudes or easy generalisations) i urge you not to hesitate to find a copy. i read it in a day, still digesting!
bon apetite!

Doesn't Get Much Hotter!.......2007-03-15
This book was so hot I had to keep iced tea beside the bed. My husband said thank you. All three stories will make you sweat.
Hot, Hot, Hot..........2007-01-11
Very steamy and great stories. I bought the book because I liked Sharon Page and Kate Douglas but Kathleen Dante also wrote a greay story.
I really liked this book.......2007-01-06
I just have to say that I really enjoy reading a well written vampire story and boy did this one deliver.

Camille's Dawn by Kate Douglas
Twenty years ago Camille Mason was killed, shot by a rookie cop who assumed that she was a wolf running wild through the city. Camille was one of the Chanku, shapeshifters who could transform into wolves. Ever since that night, her husband, Ulrich Mason has slowly withdrawn from the world, his anger at his wife still warring with his love for her.
But now, the Chanku think they might be able to contact her spirit, on the night of Samhain when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest. Gathering in Montana, the Chanku must find a way to reach Camille now. It will be up to Ulrich to find out what it is that is keeping her from finding her peace. But not before he gets one more night with his wife.
Camille's Dawn is a poignant addition to the Wolf Tales series. Bringing together her beloved characters, Kate Douglas has penned an excellent tale of love and forgiveness blended together with incredible heat.
Midnight Man by Sharon Page
Michael Rourke is a Varkyre, one of the most damned of vampires. Erin Kennedy is a mortal. In the last three months they have been trading emails, steamy emails sharing their desires. Erin wants adventure and mind-blowing sex and Michael is more than happy to give it to her. But, she doesn't believe in love. As his soul mate, Erin is the only one who can save him, and Michael is determined to change her mind.
Meeting in public for the first time, Michael quickly sets out to earn her trust. He needs Erin to believe in him before he can reveal his true nature. But when he reveals himself too soon and she reacts badly, they both must overcome their demons to determine if they can be together.
Midnight Man is a fantastic tale, erotically charged and full of lush characters. I thoroughly appreciated the role reversal of the big bad vampire believing in love and trying to convince his intended soul mate of the fact. Midnight Man is a fabulous taste of the skill of Sharon Page, one I thoroughly enjoyed.
Night Pleasures by Kathleen Dante
Alana MacArdry is desperate to get to the Pleasure Quarter despite the risks inherent in running through the woods on Samhain Night. She is running for her life, running from a necromancer who will stop at nothing to get her back. Colin Sheridan is determined to enjoy the Pleasure Quarter this Samhain, a time when inhibitions are ignored and pleasure is sought. A perfect time to be a fire mage to soak in the energies that result from a night of sexual debauchery.
Colin doesn't expect to see his beautiful neighbor Alana, and he doesn't expect her to perform an erotic little strip tease for him, despite his attraction to her for all these months. When the creatures after Alana find her again, it is up to Colin to protect her. But not before he recharges his power with a little help from her in the most carnal way possible.
Night Pleasures is an exceptional tale that was able to draw me in with beautiful writing and wonderful characters. Alana and Colin fit each other perfectly, and their erotic journey - as they work to save Alana from the necromancer - is breathtaking to read. Night Pleasures is a fitting addition to Kathleen Dante's resume, and I can't wait to get lost in this world again.
Separately, the three stories within Wild Nights are stunning. Together, they form an anthology that should not be missed, a mind-blowing feast to whet the appetite of any lover of the paranormal.

However, Camille believes the male shapeshifter may be her avenue to freedom while her beloved Ullrich willingly would do anything for her, his cherished soulmate.
"Midnight Man" by Sharon Page. Varkyrian vampiric hunk Michael Rourke like most of his kind can have any female he wants as no mere mortal or bloodsucker can resist their lure. However, he has met his soulmate, Erin Kennedy, who he plans to share an eternity of pleasure with though he fears how she will react when he takes a nip from her neck.
"Night Pleasures" by Kathleen Dante. On Samheim Night, master mage Alana MacArdry is on the run from Bryce, an evil earth magician necromancer, who plans to use and discard her, but not before he steals her powerful brooch. She hides in the Pleasure Quarter from his simulacra hoping that fire can contain earth. There she meets fire magician Colin Sheridan. This time she run towards love and passion even as Colin and Alana team up to battle her dangerous enemy.
These are three ultra heated paranormal romances starring interesting lead characters though the jump on one another's bones at first sight will disturb some readers.

In a world between legend and dream, in a time between childhood and adulthood, Walter Moers describes the exhilarating and comic adventures of Gustave, a boy who aspires one day to be a great artist.
Customer Reviews:
Walter Moers does it again!.......2007-09-11
This is a highly entertaining and even thought-provoking story. Moers definitely has a child-like imagination that is extremely fun to follow. But, as with his other books, he is not writing for children.
enjoyable.......2007-08-13
I found this book to be a good escape out of my own dream and into another's.
An outstanding children's book.......2003-12-08
This is a must buy for parents who are looking for a book for their kids that has both a great story and is really well written. I read this book at bedtime to my 8 year old and found it almost impossible to put aside for the next night. It is very very funny and maintains a cracking pace throughout. My 8 year old adored every page of it and declared it better than Harry Potter which is saying something for a true Potter fan.
It tells the story of Gustave Dore - a 12 year old boy who is given a chance by death to save his life by performing 12 outrageous tasks in one night. Gustave who among other things must rescue damsels (who incidently do not wish to be rescued leading to hilarious results) as well as bring back the tooth from the Most Monsterous of all Monsters travels through the universe accompanied by his faithfull steed Sancho Pansa. The resulting story is both highly entertaining and wonderfully deep at the same time - sadly a rare combination in many children's books. The illustrations which the book is based upon are stunning and feature the works of the real Gustave Dore - a French illustrator. One note of caution - Walter Moers does not dumb down the vocabulary in this book and many of the words will be beyond a child under 13. It is really only suitable as a book to be read out loud by an adult. This adult however was more than happy to climb the stairs to read this gem !

As anyone who has been captivated by the sounds of an evening outdoors knows, the nightly music of the woods can be a lovely but bewildering mix of hoots, croaks, howls, and grunts. This handy collection of field recordings and species descriptions helps you to identify the various members of the nocturnal chorus, from crickets and owls to otters, porcupines, and alligators. Illustrated with gorgeous pencil drawings and full-color photographs, it's the perfect complement to the sounds of the night. Includes an hour-long audio CD of the nighttime sounds of 60 animals.
Customer Reviews:
What goes bump in the night.......2007-04-29
If you live in the woods or country and are curious about what goes bump in the night, this book and CD will explain those noises. We kept hearing a wonderful creature but had no way to identify it. Turns out it was a screech owl (they don't hoot nor do they screech). This book has also helped identify several frogs & night birds. As a bonus, Lang has a very pleasant voice and the CD is well made.
Nice, but covers to large an area.......2006-01-12
It's nice to listen to in the car (for a while, at least). It's pretty useless, though, since the geographical area is not limited enough. There might be a couple of those 60 animals in your area, but about 50 of 'em won't be. This should be a series of CD's: one for the northeast, one for the southwest....and so on.
Soothing and informative.......2001-10-01
I love Lang Elliott's voice. It is very soothing and doesn't detract from the bird, reptile and insect sounds. I was able to identify a Horned Owl from the CD, so it is informative, too. The sounds are grouped on different tracks so it's easy to find the category you want, much better than a cassette tape.
Unique and wonderful nature guide by Lang Elliott.......2000-03-29
This is a truly special release from Lang Elliott, the author of numerous nature CDs and books (including the splendid "Music of the Birds" and "Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs.") On this compact disc (or cassette) and its accompanying booklet, he introduces the sounds of common North American night animals. To my knowledge, no one else has compiled a field guide to the sounds of night animals with sounds from many groups of creatures all in one place (i.e., birds, mammals, amphibians, etc.)
The recording is a constant delight and will probably make you aware of the source of many sounds you have heard but not identified before. Don't be surprised to say, "So THAT'S what that is" many times while listening to the tape or CD. Also be prepared for surprises. Think you hear cats fighting outside your window at night? They may be cats, but they also could be raccoons, which often sound remarkably like angry felines. That strange, ghostly hiss or scream you may have heard at night in the country? An angry cat perhaps, but it might be a barn owl. And there are many other special sounds identified here: the rhythmic calls of nightjars like the whippoorwill, the trills and croaks of amphibians, the surprisingly snort of the white-tailed deer.
If you spend a lot of time outdoors, you must have this guide. Take it on a camping trip with you, if you have a portable CD player or cassette player. Those night woods will not seem so forbidding anymore once you know that most of the time, the strange and fascinating sounds you hear are made by completely harmless creatures.

This book is guaranteed to make you sizzle.......2007-09-01
I loved this book. The fact that they were short stories that I could read as little or as much as I wanted, was a bonus. But beware of reading this book in public it is bound to make you blush or look guilty. It has such a wide variety of authors which make it consistently interesting. I would recommend it to any lesbian.
A great collection!.......2007-06-20
The stories were exciting, erotic and believable. Not for the children in the room. Love may not be a good way to describe all of the stories at least the authors I recognized have mentioned great partners that they love and give us all hope in the happy ever after. But that wasn't why I was reading the book.

Book Description
New York Times Bestselling author Barbara Dawson Smith returns with another enchanting, unforgettable novel featuring the beloved Kenyon family....One Wild NightI have always taken pride in my bad reputation. Polite society viewed me as depraved and utterly dissolute, for I was a disciple of passion. Pleasure was my hallmark, women my pastime. That is, before the incomparable Lady Charlotte Quinton disrupted my life--again.Due to a scandal of her own making, she had been banished from home for five years. Apparently she decided that a life of boring respectability was the key to her happiness. We might have continued down our divergent paths if not for a vicious attack on our families.Tracking a dangerous criminal occupied my time, but the tart-tongued spinster Lady Charlotte occupied my mind--and my desires. Certainly no other woman in London was immune to my charms. Yet the more Charlotte spurned me, the more I vowed to have her. After all, I can resist anything but temptation.... The Memoirs of A Rake by Brand Villiers, fifth Earl of Faversham

A Good Read!.......2004-04-24
Barbara Dawson Smith is one of my favorite writers and this is another entertaining romantic book. Not her best but definitely worth reading. Charlotte and Brand are interesting likable characters and the love story is sweet.
Sort of creepy.......2004-01-04
I didn't like this book at all. The hero(and I use that term loosely) sort of creeped me out. Some of the stuff that happened between he and the heroine was when she was 13! He just wasn't hero material. Brand just seemed concerned with what he wanted. Charlotte was sort of weak, too. I loved Too Wicked to Wed. That book had excellent characters and didn't leave me feeling yucky. I hope Dawson Smith's next novel harkens back to her earlier, better ones.
an engaging read inspite of certain plot "niggles".......2003-09-05
When Lady Charlotte Quinton receives news that her grandmother and her grandmother's two closest friends (affectionately known as the Rosebuds) were involved in a near fatal carriage accident, she immediately leaves her secluded Yorkshire home and makes for London -- or more exactly for Brand Villers, the fifth Earl of Faversham (and her bete noire)'s London house. (Readers familiar with the Kenyon brother/Rosebud series may remember Charlotte as the spoilt anti-heroine from "Romancing the Rogue"). But if being in the same room as Brand is enough to threaten Charlotte with a fit of the megrims, the knowledge that someone is out to harm the Rosebuds will definitely do it. Which according to Brand, is exactly what may have happened.
Someone has been killing off the notorious members of now disbanded Lucifer League over the past couple of months. And Brand, once a member of that club, has been trying to discover who may be behind the murders. His fear is that someone may have struck out at the Rosebuds because of his investigation and because the Rosebud themselves had a hand in causing the Lucifer League to disband. It is Brand's contention that one of the members of the League is trying to bury his past association with the league.
Charlotte of course wants to help Brand discover the identity of the murderer and help protect the Rosebuds. But Brand is still suspicious of Charlotte. He doesn't think that she's changed at all and still sees her as the bitter and troublesome young lady she used to be. Never mind that Charlotte seems to inspire a lot of lustful thoughts in him! (Obviously that just proves that she's trouble!) But Charlotte refuses to standby and wait for someone to try and get to the Rosebuds again, and she determined to help Brand with his investigation. (Hence her decision to agree to pose as Brand's mistress. Now why would a young woman who wants to marry and have children decide to do the one thing that would put an end to her dreams of a respectable marriage?) Will Charlotte be able to persuade Brand to accept her help and will she be able to cope with the reawakening of her desire (so long repressed) for him? Especially since he seems to feel nothing but contempt for her?
The plot premise of "One Wild Night" was a rather good one -- the interweaving of a romance subplot between two people who are reluctantly attracted to each other and who are constantly at daggers drawn, with a hunt for an elusive and dangerous murderer. I also found the heroine of the novel, Lady Charlotte Quinton really engaging, and thought that the authour had done a wonderful job of redeeming the previously unlikable Lady Charlotte, and showing us just how much this character had changed for the better. The hero, Brand Villers, unfortunately, left a lot to be desired. Unlike Charlotte, Brand had not matured with time, and he came across as being completely immature, spoilt and a little too obsessed with his desires and needs. Yes, he's had his share of hard knocks, but unlike Charlotte, he also seems to have chosen to sink rather than to turn his life around and do some good. He also spent for too much time thinking about how it would feel to bed Charlotte, in spite of her shrewish ways, and not a lot time following up investigative leads. Which leads me to my other "niggle" -- for someone determined to discover who the murderer actually was, Brand was a really poor detective. Getting Charlotte alone in some dark corner and keeping her away from other gentlemen seemed to be his main objective. And because the investigative subplot was not that well developed, the sense of suspense and urgency was not always there, thus making "One Wild Night" not that exciting a read.
On the other hand, if you're a fan of the Rosebud series and enjoy the interconnecting story arcs, then "One Wild Night" will prove to be an enjoyable read -- just perhaps not a 5 star one.
exhilarating amateur sleuth historical romance.......2003-09-04
After five years of self-imposed exile following the failed attempt to steal a fiancé of a friend, Charlotte Quinton visits her injured grandma hurt in a coach accident. Two other members of the senior citizen Rosebuds were also injured. The visit is not easy for Charlotte because her grandma convalesces in the home of Brad Villiers, whose relative is one of those hurt. Sixteen years ago she threw herself at him and he rejected her and her friend is his stepsister.
Brad investigates the accident as he feels that it was deliberate tying back to someone killing the members of the disbanded Lucifer Club. The Rosebuds were witnesses to the end of the club so are possible murder victims. Charlotte reaches the same conclusion and begins her own inquiries until Brad brings her into his. As they work close together, they fall in love, but an unknown assailant wants Brad dead or at least accused of murder by Bow St. and only Charlotte can save him at risk to her own life.
Barbara Dawson Smith is becoming very well known for her exciting Regency romance novels such as ONCE UPON A SCANDAL and HER SECRET AFFAIR. Her latest tale, ONE WILD NIGHT, is an exhilarating amateur sleuth historical romance starring two delightful lead protagonists and the charming Rosebuds. Though the hero's holier than thou ethics towards the heroine come across hypocritical when his indiscretions come to light, readers will appreciate this solid historical suspense.
