Customer Reviews:
An intimate book with prayer and lectio divina as goal..........2005-06-21
For some time now I have owned the title, "Too Deep for Words: Rediscovering Lectio Divina" by Thelma Hall. I have used it for prayer, and I have used it for lectio. The hallmark use I have put the book to is its selections of scripture readings for prayer. This is not to say that the purpose of the book, lectio divina and its prayer form, its reading form of the scriptures is to be ignored. No, the author's writings regarding this method of intimacy with scriptures is worth the time to read.
A comfortable book, and by that I mean it is an inviting read, one can enter into the monastic method of prayer. Here, in the introduction, the author calls lectio an entry way to contemplation. It is "...generally accepted that contemplation was an extrordinary grace..." but here the intent is to open lectio and also contemplation to Christians as part of their spiritual life.
If I may interpret a little bit, the writer says that with this people can enter more loving relationships with others, and with God. A means to accomplishing this is through lectio divina. She says, "...we grow in love of God as we grow in any intimate love relationship..." A prerequisite is to trust God and know he is faithful to us. The practice of lectio divina is fourfold, and I have learned this method a number of times from others and Thelma Hall is right on the money as I know it. In fact, one may rely on her for this kind of prayer and relationship in prayer with God. The book has an integrity to it.
Though not specifically a how-to book, this is a mini-retreat and not so long of one in text form. The text part, not counting the scripture readings, is only 55 pages. Most people will find their way through that and find it fruitful.
The four parts to lectio: Read the word of God; reflect on the word; where the word touches the heart, or meditation on the word; and, contemplating the word of God. Through this we may come through the night to a new dawn. Or as I read it, we may leave behind some of our darker side and come to a lighter side of inspiration with scripture, and illuminated so gain a special relationship with God. This is reachable, to some degree, by most people who are so willing to be devotional.
To stretch the idea more, as an invitation, the writer says this is what to do:
"--To receive, and place no obstacle to the Holy Spirit.
"--Follow attraction to interior silence and remain in loving attentiveness.
"---Abandon all activity and let oneself be drawn into the darkness of God's love, forgetful of self.
"--When it becomes possible to meditate again, do so, until and unless interior silence becomes habitual."
The book is a traditional teaching, and Thelma Hall, a retreat leader is a religious (member of the Religious of Cenacle) in Bedford Village, New York. A book recommended to me by monks of New Camaldoli in Big Sur, the book is recommended by others interested in similar spirituality. The publisher is Paulist Press, a Catholic Church publishing house. I think anyone interested in expanding their horizons of prayer life and entering more fully into scripture will find this an interesting and worthwhile book that leads to a more fruitful life of the spirit.
An adequate introductory volume.......2004-01-03
Lectio divina has a long history as a methodless method of study and prayer in the Christian tradition. It has enjoyed a recent revival among laity as they seek Scripture study and prayer for laity (as opposed to within religious orders). Thelma Hall provides an introduction that fits within the revival with several references to Thomas Merton and Thomas Keating, themselves each important in the contemplative tradition.
The strengths of this book include Hall's excellent selection of quotations to promote her views, her emphasis on a loving relationship as the model which prohibits a method, and her selection of potential texts for the initial practice of lectio divina.
The primary weaknesses as an introductory text is that it presumes the contemplative step is a "mystical" experience. This leads to discussions of the false-self / true-self dichotomy and of "dark night of the soul." This places the volume with the same audience as Merton, Keating, Pennington etc.. This is an audience with less need for an introductory volume than the "typical Catholic."
St. John of the Cross's paraphrase of Lk 11:9 is an accurate description of lectio divina "Seek in READING / and you will find in MEDITATION; / knock in PRAYER / and it will be opened to you / in CONTEMPLATION." However, the description of Dom Marmion reflects more accurately Hall's approach: "We read (Lectio)/ under the eye of God (Meditatio)/ until the heart is touched (Oratio)/ and leaps to flame (Contemplatio).
In this context, Hall provides 500 Scripture texts that are suitable for the initial practice of lectio divina. The readings are divided into 50 topics such as "Accepting Love," "Anxiety," "Discernment of Spirits," "Following the Lord," etc. She provides a citation for the full passage and a key phrase "summary" to allow the selection of a particular passage. This allows the novice to select quickly topics and passages that will be fruitful.
In short, this is one of several introductory volumes for lectio divina. If you flourish reading Merton and practicing Centering Prayer, this is an excellent choice.
Too deep for Words -- yet simply explained.......2003-04-12
I highly recommend this book. I have recently become interested in contemplative prayer, and as usual I purchased several books on the topic. This is the only book I found that bridges the gap between the depth of the topic, and the distractions of contemporary life. I have trouble quieting my mind, so I needed help in that area.
Thelma Hall proposes a four step process, in which you
-READ a Bible passage
-MEDITATE, or think about what it means
-PRAY about it,
-and then finally enter into CONTEMPLATION.
Somehow, this progression works. Try it. The book is very short. In fact, most of it is actually a collection of scriptures that have been arranged thematically for your convenience in finding a scripture to start reading.
BEAUTIFUL BOOK.......2002-01-10
I AM AN INCAPABLE OF WRITING A REVIEW THAT WOULD CAPTURE THE NATURE OF THIS WORK. THE BEST COMPLIMENT I CAN GIVE IS THAT I WILL RE READ IT OFTEN AND I HAVE GIVEN A COPY OF IT TO FRIEND. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN EXPANDING YOUR PRAYER LIFE THIS BOOK IS AN EXCELLENT AND READABLE RESOURCE FOR ANY CHRISTIAN, REGARDLESS OF DENOMINATIONAL BACKROUND.
A perfect book for prayer.......1999-03-01
I have used "Too Deep For Words" for over a decade. It is a concise and well-written introduction to one of the most ancient forms of Christian prayer - and one of the most simple.
In Hall's book, she clearly lays out the theory and methodology of the prayer. In the second part, she lists by theme various scripture quotes and references for use in prayer.
In an age of workshops, conferences, and the like, this book is a refreshing and accessible means for people to grow in their spiritual lives.

A Sexual Awakening.......2007-05-21
An undercover detective is assigned to learn about a woman who just happens to be unhappy with her marriage. The two end up being lovers.
Should have stopped halfway through.......2007-04-30
The first half of this book is amazing. The character development is well done - and the sex scenes are hot.
Then about halfway through, the tone changes. Suddenly, we're meeting new characters in new settings. Some scenes (especially ones with Patricia and the SGT and Erin's ex, Mark) seem like they were added to take up space. Even the drama of the love-triangle is gone since we know who Erin picks.
From there, the book plods until then end and the final resolution.
In Too Deep.......2007-03-09
EXCELLENT!! Quick read. Keeps your attention. A must read.
A Romantic Mystery to Die For.......2006-12-27
Ronica Black is a relatively new author that shows a lot of promise. Her first two books, including `In Too Deep,' have been really enjoyable. Her characters are likable and believable and her stories are exciting. The reader can guess, but never really knows what's coming on the next page until she gets there.
Here, Black introduces characters Erin McKenzie and Elizabeth (Liz) Adams. Erin is an undercover detective who has been assigned to get cozy with suspect Adams. Erin's home life is rather disappointing. Her husband is having an affair and they rarely see each other. Erin is nothing more to him than a possession to impress his business associates. Fellow detective, Patricia Henderson is tapped to help Erin prepare for this assignment - fitting, because Patricia is a lesbian and so is Liz. In fact, Patty is one of Liz's former lovers. Erin can't recall any feelings toward another woman, but finds herself completely turned on by Patricia's coaching.
Erin finds herself aching by the time she finally meets Liz, but plays the part of an "old fashioned" woman to keep Liz's attentions trained on her. The approach helps with the ultimate solving of the case, but makes things much worse for Erin on a personal level. She struggles with her growing attraction and feelings for the sexually raucous older woman.
This book offers so much for the reader. There is sexual awakening, beautiful women, intrigue, passion, and a lot more. It's a romance and mystery rolled up in one novel. I highly recommend this one to anyone.
Where have you been Ronica Black?.......2006-07-28
I'd never heard of her before? I took a chance on a new author because I wanted something new and different. The front and back covers hooked me and I wasn't disappointed.
Her in-depth character development helps to make this a great book. You have to know what makes a character tick and some books are just to superficial.
I love a book which covers many aspects: romance, drama, mystery, action, sex. Oh yeah!
I enjoyed reading her debut novel. I hope to see more of Ms. Black. Her book is a great read and a keeper.
Book Description
Beauty can be deceiving. . . .
Tally Cruise has come to Paradise Island for a long-awaited reunion with the father she never knew. But when she arrives, he is nowhere to be found. She is rescued by an enigmatic man whose intensity is as undeniable as his sex appeal . . . a mysterious stranger who is not what he seems.
Michael Wright is on Paradise Island to settle an old score with Tally’s father, the man responsible for the accident that ended his Navy SEAL career . . . and killed his best friend. But even though he hopes to use Tally to reach his target, Michael cannot deny the deep feelings she inspires within him, or the fact that her life is in serious danger. Paradise Island is a place full of hidden intrigue and peril, as deadly as it is beautiful, and Michael will need every skill he learned as a SEAL to ensure that he and Tally escape alive. . . .
Customer Reviews:
Not that great.......2006-12-01
This is the third in the Wright Family Series. The book features Michael Wright. The First and Second books of the series (Kiss and Tell, Hide and Seek) were exciting, but this one was a disappointment. It lacked action and a story line.
Michael Wright comes to Paradise Island to hunt down the man that killed his partner and made him lose an eye.
While watching Tally Cruise (the daughter of the man Michael is looking for), the boat she is on blows up. She seems to be the only survivor. Michael rescues her and takes them both to Paradise Island.
Tally thinking that her father has sent for her is only there to see him, since he has never really wanted her in his life.
Michael is hunting on the island for weapons that Trevor Cruise, Tally's father has and is planning on selling them to the wrong people.
There wasn't much of a story line, and even though Tally keeps having accidents that Michael always seems to be there to save her, the book was boring. I had to force myself to finish it.
I was hoping it would be as good as the first two books in the series, but it fell short by a long shot.
I liked Michael, but he was after Tally the first night they were together.
Tally was a lame excuse to be a sexy object to him, she was boring, weak, and just no fun to read about.
I hope the last two books in this series are better, after reading Kiss and Tell, I ordered the other four.
Good quick read.......2005-08-23
My first Cherry Adair book. It was a little predictable however, a good read with enjoyable sex scenes.
HOT, HOT, HOT.......2005-05-19
Even the lack of having lost an eye, doesn't seem to make Michael Wright any less desirable. This story is action packed from the start. It is continued with a great deal of suspense. No huge surprises, but a really good book nonetheless. The sex scenes are steamy and one of the most memorable I've ever read is in this book. The constant danger will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. This is a very good book, but then all of Cherry Adair's books about the Wright Brothers are excellent. I highly recommend buying them.
In Too Deep.......2004-12-31
This book is one of the best in the series so far. The story is funny, sexy, and exciting. The Hero is funny as hell and the heroine is cute and has an optimistic about life. She might be naive in a certain way but she's a quick thinker and a butt kicker.Compare to the the heroine in Hide and Seek Tally is alot smarter than Dalanie(which got so annoying). I love this book so much I suggest the reader to read it and find out what I'm talking about. Hold on to your seat with the sex scenes too. Enjoy...
Disappointed.......2004-05-13
I had hoped for much more from my first Cherry Adair book - the recommendations had been so good. But the writing is simplistic, the characters lack dimension, the "suspense" is convuluted and not even remotely realistic, and the sex is formulaic. Silly me, to want a little romance in my romance novels! It wasn't so bad that I couldn't finish it, but I'll stick to Susan Andersen, Linda Howard and Karen Robards for my romantic thrillers from now on.

Book #4 I'M TOO FOND OF MY FUR!
When my old friend Professor von Volt called to ask for help, I agreed immediately--even though it meant trekking halfway around the world to Mouse Everest! The trip was long and dangerous. I almost froze my tail off along the way. And then I was kidnapped by a yeti! Yes, it was truly an amazing adventure . . .
Book #5 FOUR MICE DEEP IN THE JUNGLE
I have never been a brave mouse . . . but lately, my fears were taking over my life! So Thea and Trap decided to cure me. They dragged me away on an airplane (I'm afraid of flying!) all the way to the jungle. There I was forced to eat bug soup, climb trees as tall as skyscrapers, swim in raging rivers, and even wrangle snakes. How would a 'fraidy mouse like me every survive?
Book #6 PAWS OFF, CHEDDARFACE!
Holey cheese, it was strange! Rodents kept telling me I'd done things I had not memory of. Was I going crazy? Had the cheese finally slipped off my cracker? No, I soon discovered the truth: There was a Geronimo look-a-like going around, pretending to be me! Worst of all, he was trying to take of The Rodent's Gazette! I had to get that greedy impostor's paws off my newspaper, but how?

Lots of fun for the kids!.......2007-09-29
This was a great purchase for the kids. My kids love to listen to the stories in the car or listen to them while they fall asleep at night. Great story telling and fun stories
Delightful!.......2007-05-12
My son who is in the first grade, received his first set of Geronimo Stilton books on c.d. from a friend. We listened to them in the car, and the entire family enjoyed the stories so much that no one was allowed to listen unless we were all present because not even the adults wanted to miss a thing! We purchased the next set of books, which delighted my son with their colorful words and illustrations, mysterious plots and exotic locations. Since then, I think we have bought a total of 28 books in the series, and my only complaint is that I have caught my son reading under his covers at 11:00 o'clock at night! Any material that encourages my children to read in their every waking moment is a winner in my book!

blaze - this one?.......2000-05-02
okay, the story was good, but this book was definitely not blaze. I like Lori Foster's writing style and the discussion between heros is wonderful, but after Taken or Tantalizing this book was quite a disappointment as Blaze.
Lori Foster's IN TOO DEEP was delightful........2000-03-14
I loved Charlie's (Charlotte) outer brashness that hid her marshmallow center! Charlie is looking for the father who deserted her -- not because she needs him in her life. Charlie doesn't need anyone. No, she wants to find him so he'll cough up the money to send her little sister to school. As she's checking out her father, she accidently finds herself kidnapped. Her co-kidnappee happens to be an overbearing, aggravating, GORGEOUS man, Harry Lonnigan. Harry's an investigator, but pretty soon the only mystery he is interested in solving is Charlie -- a woman who annoys and fascinates him in turn. IN TOO DEEP, is an entertaining story of discovery and love. Lori Foster's stories never fail to delight me!
Deep admiration.......2000-03-06
Lori has outdone herself once again! Lori has a talent to make you feel what her characters feel. If Harry was a challenge for her, you would never sense it in her depth of him. Charlie is the heroine I think that has something all of us wish we had a bit more of and that is guts. You sympathize with her and if you come from a dysfunctional home, you can really relate. Lori sizzles with Charlie and Harry and you would be a fool to pass this one up! Keep em coming Lori!
Lori Foster writes romances that sizzle.......2000-02-16
Worried about his fellow shopkeepers doing something rash, jewelry storeowner Dalton asks his friend private Investigator Harry Lonnigan for help. Harry would do anything for Dalton who has been like a father to the sleuth. Harry watches the two punks Ralph and Floyd extort money from the shopkeeper when he notices the woman bundled as a boy observing something too. All hell breaks out and the two thugs take Harry and Charlie Jones as prisoners for their boss Carlyle to handle.
Charlie and Harry escape, but not before an attraction between them explodes. She explains that she was spying on her runaway father, a local storeowner. She needs money to send her teenage sister off to a top college and wants her dad who deserted them eighteen years ago to pay the bill. Harry learns that Dalton is her father. He knows his friend has spent a small fortune trying to find his daughters who were taken away by his ex-wife. As Harry risks his heart to help reconcile father and daughter, he also tries to keep the neighborhood safe from Carlyle's gang, but Charlie only knows how to go right up the middle into trouble.
IN TOO DEEP is an entertaining contemporary romance that stars two appealing protagonists. Harry is a big man with a big heart and an Ivy League vocabulary. Charlie is a petite woman with a big heart and the vernacular of a bar owner. This couple blazes through the story line leaving a satisfied audience wanting more novels from Lori Foster.

I love Stine!!!!!!!!.......2004-02-11
I think that RL Stines books are great I liked this one along with the rest of the books that go with the serie. The Seniors books are the best on so far. I love to read them to find out if they are all going to die. If you don't like RL Stine thenn there is something seriously wrong with you. Well thats all.
In Too Deep.......2001-07-30
Kenny Klien, Debra Lake, Ty Sullivan, and Dana Palmer are at day camp, but for Kenny Klien, things just keep wierder and weirder, like Vincent, the kid who always wore a mask, Graydon, the nasty little boy who is determined to anger everyone, and Melly, the beautiful arts and crafts counselor, only she seems to turn up missing every once in a while. But his girlfired, Jade Feldman won't find out about Melly unles Dana tells her. And to add to that, someone in camp is trying to kill him. And the doomed class is the last thing from his mind... I thought is was an okay story. It was way better than the first seniors book. It was different from all the other Fear Street books. Death Count: 1, Seniors Dead: None. Can't wait for Graduation day!
In Too Deep is Cool!.......2000-10-07
In Too Deep is pretty cool. I liked Kenny Klein and also liked when he and his friends went swimming in Fear Lake. Wait till you read about Grayson, though.... the speedboat scene had my eyes glued to the page. Only 4 stars because it wasn't all realistic. A really good book though!
Good Seniors Book.......2000-03-24
In Too Deep is a good Seniors book. Kenny Klien is the main charcter in the book. He is pretty cool. This book has it's moments and it is shocking at the end, but it isn't as good as the first Seniors book Let's Party. But I would still recommened it becuase it is part of the Seniors series.
In Too Deep.......1999-11-09
In Too Deep is a pretty good Seniors book. I like Kenny Klein, he's pretty cool. This book had a couple of surprises and twists which I like alot. And this book also introduced my favorite senior Ty Sullivan. In Too Deep is a great book. I would recommened it!

Customer Reviews:
A little disappointed.......2006-07-26
I usually LOVE Tina Wainscott books. However, IN TOO DEEP did not live up to the author's potential. I do have to say though that although not a mystery as many of her other novels are, this book had a villian that definitely gets under the reader's skin. It is a bit like her novel UNFORGIVABLE. Although the romance in "IN TOO DEEP" is a little weak. No clever twists and turns or surprise ending therefore, it falls short on my star rating. That does not mean that in itself it is not a decent novel for another reader, it is just not typical Tina Wainscott and avid fans might be left a bit disappointed.
Is it worth buying?
If you can get it on sale, perhaps. However, it would be wiser to check this one out from the library instead. If you really want to try a Tina Wainscott novel out, then check out NOW YOU SEE ME, OR I'LL BE WATCHING YOU.
Review by Tammy from Fallen Angel Reviews.......2006-05-02
Winslow Talbot's life is in danger from someone who wants to shut her up, permanently.
Winslow Talbot is a writer for a society magazine that steps in to help a young Cuban girl who was disfigured in a hit-and-run boating accident. Winslow knows what an injury like that can do to a person's life since she was also disfigured when she was a young girl and went through the windshield after a car accident where her father was killed. While trying to find her stepsister Ashlyn, who was hiding from her fianc?, Winslow runs into Alex D?az, a reporter who knew the Cuban girls family and would be able to help her look into the story by giving her information. Soon, Winslow discovers startling information that her soon to be brother-in-law may be behind the boating accident and she will do anything possible to prove who was behind it and get justice for the young girl.
Winslow is soon embroiled in the investigation and finds herself alone. Her stepfather Grant and Ashlyn both believe that she is only out to get Jayce due to the fact she is jealous of him and Ashlyn getting married. Alex is trying to help Winslow in her investigation and to keep her safe, but with their relationship growing closer and her lying to him, it is hard on both of them. Can Winslow learn to open up to Alex and let him see her real self? Will Winslow ever be able to solve the boating mystery and put her family back together? Will their relationship be fractured by the danger around them?
In Too Deep is a passionate and adventurous journey through lies, betrayal, and loss. This suspenseful tale kept me on my toes and had me wanting to shout out at the characters, and I find that any book that can bring out that strong of a reaction is a top rated book worthy of reading. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Alex and Winslow develop and thought that the family dynamics added a touch of realism to the book. I found In Too Deep to be a fantastic story to curl up with and would highly recommend it to any readers looking for a great suspense that will keep you turning the pages with intense characters and a gritty story line.

Lovers of romantic suspense will enjoy! .......2005-12-19
Winslow Talbot knows that people consider her to be beautiful, but she believes that's only because they can't see the scars left by a terrible car accident. She cleverly hides these scars, never letting anyone see the real Winslow behind her "mask" and the society life she leads as the step daughter of powerful man currently running for governor. But when her step sister, Ashlyn, introduces Winslow to her new fiancée, Jayce, alarms go off in Winslow. There is just something about him that doesn't feel right to Winslow. When a hit and run boating accident leaves another young girl with facial injuries, clues lead Winslow to believe that Jayce may have had something to do with it. When she acts on her suspicions, Winslow never expects her whole family to turn against her. Now she's on the outside, trying to save her sister from man who Winslow is convinced is hiding a dangerous past.
This brings Winslow into contact with Miami newspaperman, Alex Diaz. Alex is not the kind of man who has time for spoiled society women, but the more time he spends with Winslow, the more he realizes that there is depth to her. As they rush to find out exactly what Jayce is hiding, they begin to fall in love. But can Winslow ever trust Alex enough to let him see her true face, scars and all? And can they force Winslow's family to accept the truth about Jayce before it's too late?
In Too Deep is another well written romantic suspense by Tina Wainscott. Alex Diaz may be her best hero to date. Sexy, romantic, and protective Alex is all the things I look for when I pick up a romance. He certainly made me want to read more! Winslow was a character that was finally coming to terms with her fears, something that made me connect with her all the more. The only aspect of the story which I found a little disturbing was Winslow's family's inability to see past Jayce. I might expect Ashlyn to have been blinded by love, but her father was supposed to be a rich, powerful, political man and I thought he would have be a little more cynical when it came to fortune hunters. However none of that detracted from the story, which I truly enjoyed. I am happy to recommend In Too Deep to readers of romantic suspense!

Missing Something.......2005-10-31
This had the potential to be an excellent book. However, the character of Winslow was so stupid and careless that it got annoying after awhile.
One would think that being conked on the head and locked in her trunk would teach her a lesson. Nope. She gets tasered, shot at twice and threatened, and yet she still keeps putting herself in stupid, dangerous situations without a second thought or being the least bit careful.
The rest of the cast of characters wasn't much better. Grant, a multi-millionaire running for office, takes the word of a guy he's known a couple of months and immediately believes his daughter is a psychotic, paranoid druggie. Ashlyn is so desperate to be loved that she cuts ties with everyone she's ever cared about for this guy, including leaving her sister out of her wedding. Yet no one but Winslow can see through this dude? The character of Alex also had a ton of potential, but was basically delegated to being Winslow's sidekick in stupidity.
Normally I love Tina Wainscott's books, however, this one just wasn't as good as the others. However, it's still a good way to pass time.
Please somebody, Believe her!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-10-07
I usually like Tina's books, but I got so tired of the fact that nobody would believe anything Winslow had to say. She is convinced that her sister's fiance is a fraud and he threatens her constantly. He does all this behind her family's back so they don't believe her. Her sister thinks she is jealous. Her father is a millionaire business man who can't seem to think for himself. He thinks she is jealous and maybe on drugs.
Finally she meets a Cuban American, Alex Diaz, who finally believes her. She is also positive Jayce was the one who ran down a fishing boat killing 2 Cuban Americans and disfiguring a little girl. Winslow was in a car accident and had to have her face rebuilt so she has great sympathy for the little girl.
The story was alright, but I got very tired of the Cuban connection. And as a matter of fact there was no cuban connection. By the time you get to the grist of the plot you are tired that no one in her family believes her then there are so many different ideas about what is going on, somehow they loose you in the machinations.

If You Like Family Sagas.......2005-06-20
I recently reread Too Deep for Tears by Kathyrn Lynn Davis to continue reading the next two books, All That We Know and Somewhere Lies the Moon, from this trilogy. As I found after my first reading many years ago, this was a wonderful family saga and onyl wish there were more like this book these days. In the tradition of The Thorn Birds or more recently The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly, this book taskes hold of you and doesn't let go till the last page.
Charles Kitteridge sires three daughters from three different women in three very different areas of the world. Aisla is raised in the hills and glens of the Scottish moors filled with all sorts of mysticism and traditions. Li Ann, whose mother was Chinese, was raised a blue eyed woman in China while Generva is raised in India the daughter of a Bristish woman who abandons her when she is very young.
I really enjoyed this book and found the charazcters wonderful and entrancing. This was an unusually good story of three very different women and how they grew up imaginng their father. The characters were well drawn and their circumstances found me once again turning the pages of a real good book. And the end was very poiugnant and quite fitting as a father finalyl meets his three daughters from all over the world.
I now look forward to reading the next two books in this series and continuing my enjoyment of this author's esepcially fine storytelling.
I couldn't put this one down!.......2005-06-07
A friend of mine gave me her other copy of this book since she was raving about it in a bookclub recently. After reading the first ten pages, I was hooked. This is definitely one of the classic romantic novels that should be placed at the top of every reader's list. This book is just beautiful and romantic and full of interesting tidbits about Scotland, China and India. This book literally swept me away into the past!
This story focuses on three extraordinary women fathered by the same man, Charles Kittridge, though they all have different mothers. Aisla Rose is the oldest ~~ her mother is the only one married to Charles before he left Scotland. Aisla gave up her dream of true love to be with another man who offered her more promises than she could find in the Scottish glens. Li-An is a proud and beautiful Chinese woman who is despised since she has blue eyes ~~ she gave up everything before finding her dreams. And there is Generva, who was abandoned by her mother and Charles as a young girl in India. These are their stories ~~ love found and lost, poetry, art and music ~~ all interwoven into tales that linger long after the last page has been turned. These three women and their mothers are strong women who face the future with courage and pride.
This book is fascinating and exotic ~~ lovely and sometimes too beautiful to bear. It's a perfect escape for anyone who needs a break from the grind of daily life. If you're going on vacation somewhere and you need a book to read ~~ I highly recommend this one! If you're sitting around the house trying to keep cool (or warm in the winter) ~~ this is one book for you. It literally will sweep you away into times past.

A difficult review to write.....................2003-06-18
To write a review on this book is difficult for me because I had so many mixed feelings toward this group of stories. Book one was undoubtedly my favorite..it touched me deeply and it definitely had me crying on more than one occassion..however..the other books within failed to move me at all(with the exception of the final book)I actually only finished reading out of curiosity more than anything else...My four star rating is based purely on book one. I would have awarded it with 5 stars, but I found that a certain choice that was made within it was just too unforgivable. In fact, I am now reading "All We Hold Dear"
in the hopes that this choice and the events that followed it are somehow remedied..I dont want to go into detail because Ill be entering spoiler territory, but all I have to say is that Im crossing my fingers, hoping for the best, and thinking of Ian.
Swept away.......2002-09-15

Memorable. Very........2002-05-30
This book stayed with me for a long, long time. ... It was so incredibly excellent, I thought, but I have a friend who didn't like it! So... you must read it for yourself -- it's so worth it.

Very Good Read.......2002-08-17
This was a very good novel. It was hard to put down because I desperately wanted to see how Troy was going to pay. I think he deserved worse, but the novel was still satisfying. I look forward to what comes next by Ms Taylor. She always manages to please.
Highly recommended.......2001-11-13
Heiress Jenny Holloway renounced her father's money years ago, preferring to make her own way on her hard work and talent. Her first act of rebellion fifteen years ago hadn't gone so well. She married Tony when she was eighteen to escape her father's marriage to a much younger woman. When Tony became abusive, she allowed her father to rescue her and to pay Tony to disappear. Tony never knew he has a son. Now Jenny is opening a restaurant in Santa Fe, pleased to be a successful career woman and mother. She doesn't realize her ex has plans for her, or that her new love interest has been hired by her father for her protection.
Tony remembers Jenny as a good thing and looks forward to an opportunity to gain control to her father's money, not to mention getting under her icy exterior. But he's underestimated his ex-wife. While Tony may find a way to monopolize their son's emotions and make Jenny feel threatened, he doesn't know she has protection lurking in the background. When Tony killed Hunter Calgary's sister, escaping without charges, Hunter's obsession never lessened. Now he intends to not only exact his revenge, but to protect Jenny as well. But concealing his identity and motivation could easily prove counter productive as they grow emotionally close. Indeed, it doesn't take long for Hunter to know he's in too deep.
Once again author Janelle Taylor pens a fascinating read with IN TOO DEEP. While she returns to an often-used plot, the family dynamics as well as the tension of attraction between hero and heroine led the novel a startling realism. Indeed, Taylor also a knack for getting into the head of the sadist villain, brilliantly portraying his dangerous escalation of rage and cruelty. IN TOO DEEP comes highly recommended.
A winner.......2001-09-25
Allen Holloway paid abusive Troy Russell to divorce and leave his pregnant daughter Jenny. Fifteen years later, Troy has returned for a new handout and is low enough to use his own son as a pawn for cash. Rather than turn to her father, Jenny flees to Santa Fe to start anew.
Former cop Hunter Calgary obsessively tracks Troy because he believes the thug killed his sister so Allen asks him to keep safe his beloved daughter and grandson. Hunter vows to make sure that the snake does not harm the two Holloways, but soon finds himself in love with Jenny. However, he knows anything permanent is doomed because once she learns the truth as to why he is here she will flee. Still, he risks his life to keep the duo unharmed from a malevolent individual who does not mind committing homicide to gain easy money.
Romantic suspense readers will enjoy Janelle Taylor's latest thriller IN TOO DEEP because the story line never slows down until the end. The estrangement between the two older generations of Holloways seems forced as Jenny refuses to turn to her father for help even with the return of her dangerous former husband. The obvious contrast between the two key males with Troy the psychopath vs. Hunter the hero is a bit too blatant, but on the other hand, the audience will root for Jenny's champion to triumph because he is such a nice person. Ms. Taylor has written an engaging damsel in distress tale that will delight her fans.
