5 out of 5 stars Good, Trashy Read.......2007-06-30

This is a great sixth edition to the series! I admit, I was shocked at the coldness of many of the characters but I wasn't surprised after reading the previous books. This book left me very excited to read the seventh and final book of the series. While the whole series errs on the trashy side, this is the best guilty pleasure I've ever read. The story is about how the whole gang handles Vegas. People's secrets come out and you will probably be surprised at the way that the characters handle the truth.

5 out of 5 stars What happens in Vegas..........2007-04-11

I couldn't help but fill myself up on this book. Gluttony is Robin Wasserman's sixth book in the Seven Deadly Sins series. I have read all the other books and all of them had seemed to get better as they went along. Although the fifth installment, Sloth, had fallen short of my expectations I was anticipating Gluttony to see if Wasserman still had that touch, and she does.
The majority of this sinful novel happens in no other place than Sin City itself, Vegas. It seems as though most of Haven High, makes a trip to Vegas. Harper and Miranda are trying to make up for lost time and regain each other's friendship. Kane and Adam also seem to be getting back to becoming the friends that they once were. Beth, good girl turned bad, and Reed are trying to forward their relationship.
Harper and Adam begin to spend more time together after Kane gets them a room at a swanky room at hotel. They are also sharing the room with Miranda and Kane who also seem to be spending a little bit more time together. Miranda, who's been chasing Kane forever, is finally feeling like giving up on him. Kane is all for living it up in the short time in Vegas. Beth and Reed are getting much closer until a girl names Starla seems to be getting in the way.
This book had to be one of my favorites in this series. As always, I love these books. The surprises in this novel were incredible. I didn't know what to expect starting this novel and I sure didn't expect some of the outcomes. I am very anxious to see how Wasserman will tie up the loose ends in the upcoming-and last-book of the series. I certainly can't predict how this series will end, and I am sad to see that it is almost over.
It's Vegas. Anything can go and anything will. Secrets revealed. Twist and turns. The road through Vegas is a full of lust, envy, pride, and anger. So go ahead and indulge yourself in this book.

Dear Readers:I have a confession to make. I never know where my "muse" will take me next. It has been an exciting literary journey--my writing has evolved in many unexpected way, including recently into the realm of powerful and suspenseful contemporary women's fiction, which I shall continue to write under my own name, Brenda Joyce. I have never lost sight, however, of my audience--my historical romance readers, and especially fans of my books featuring the Bragg family. To this day, many of you still clamor for more Bragg books. Well, imagine my surprise when my "muse" prompted me to begin a new historical romance suspense series--and then I realized a Bragg had to be the hero! And so the nom de plume B.D. Joyce was born, and with it, the first book in an ongoing series, Deadly Love.Welcome to the world of Francesca Cahill, crime-solver extraordinaire. Francesca is no ordinary heroine. She refuses to bow to convention, wears her heart on her sleeve, and is determined to right the ills and injustices of society/ Deadly love begins Francesca's mad escapades when the neighbors' little boy is kidnapped right out of his bed during a society ball. It is January 18, 1902. Francesca stumbles across the ransom note just as she meets New York City's newly appointed police commissioner, Rick Bragg. And Fracesca can no more stay out of this investigation than she can stop herself from falling love with the city's determined and powerful police commissioner. But little does she know that on this singular night, he life will change forever.Let me take you back in time to the lost, magical world of turn-of-the-century New York City--where the glittering mansions of society's elite are only footsteps away from the impoverished back alleys of the city'sunderbelly--and into the heart of true danger and even truer passion.Enjoy!Best wishes and Happy Reading,B.D. 3 out of 5 stars Excellent historical mystery romance series.......2006-01-22

OK, I only gave this book 3 stars. Mainly because Francesca is so wet behind the ears and naive that she is a just a little tiresome. However! Francesca is a VERY quick leaner and the series becomes fascinating if you persevere. By book three there is so much happening with Francesca and a host of interesting secondary characters that you can't put them down! By book four the various romances are sizzling and Francesca has quite a track record as a sleuth.

2 out of 5 stars A cutesy piece of fluff!.......2005-09-15

Francesca Cahill is a member of New York City's social elite. She lives in a Fifth Avenue mansion, with her parents and older brother, attends glittering society balls and fundraisers, and allows herself, occasionally, to be courted by the town's most eligible bachelors. However, she is a marginal player, at best, in the comings and goings of Manhattan's rich and famous, to her mother's dismay. Francesca is extremely bright and is determined to do something with her mind other than plan dinner parties. Unbeknownst to her mother, she has enrolled in Barnard College with aspirations to become a journalist. Fran is also active in major societal reform movements, especially the Ladies Society for the Eradication of Tenements.

At one of her mother's numerous parties, she is introduced to newly appointed police commissioner, Rick Bragg. As they spar about local politics, he takes note that the lovely young women has the proverbial brains as well as beauty. She notices that he's not so bad himself. Later in the evening, she goes into her father's library to take a breather and finds an unopened note on top of the mail, marked URGENT, but not addressed to anyone in particular. So she opens it and reads, "A is for Ants. If you want to see the boy again, be at Mott and Hester Streets at 1 P.M. tomorrow." Fran is initially intrigued by the note, but then dismisses it as a prank and returns to the festivities. After all, no one she knows is missing.

The next morning when she discovers that her next door neighbors' small son, Jonny Burton, has disappeared, she remembers the note, takes it across the street, and hands it over to....Inspector Bragg, you guessed it. Who else would be in charge of such an important investigation? As much as Bragg tries to discourage her from making private detecting her business, Francesca is determined to investigate. She finds herself traveling into a world far different than any she has previously known, except, perhaps, in the novels of Charles Dickens.'

I was really disappointed in "Deadly Love," at best a cutesy piece of fluff. Author Brenda Joyce starts off with an interesting premise - a society girl/college student sleuth in 1902 NYC. The Cahills have possibilities as characters/family: strong, affectionate businessman father, (pulled himself up by the bootstraps); stereotypical mother, determined to marry-off her children well; smart, caring big brother, but flawed - with a tendency to gamble and accumulate debts; big sister Connie, married to the very handsome British Lord Neil Montrose, who is a bit of a rake. Francesca, who begins as an interesting young woman, winds-up an airhead. And she is supposedly intelligent! She bumbles as badly, at times, as Bragg's police, forerunners of the Keystone Cops. The chemistry between Francesca and Bragg, starts off with sparks, then deteriorates, because how can a silly woman with frivolous dialogue be sexy? And he pays attention?!

The mystery is not very complex, unless you have this motley crew investigating. Then the police procedural needs an additional 100 pages and plenty of overtime to get solved. Plus all the loose ends are never tied up. Save your time and money. This is only the first in a series, however, so perhaps Ms. Joyce will hit her stride. The setting and concept are worth another try.

3 out of 5 stars Not a hard-core romance, but a decent read.......2005-02-28

Deadly Love introduces us to Brenda Joyce's crime-solving heroine, Francesca Cahill. Francesca does not begin the novel as a crime-solver but stumbles across it and becomes swept away in the mystery surrounding a boy's kidnapping.
However, that is only the cursory story. The novel truly revolves around Francesca's life (which takes place in 1902, a time period the author takes advantage of in creating this special heroine) and the lives of the people around her. Francesca is a truly wonderful heroine with a special mix of romanticism and realism to make her both likeable and human. If she snoops a bit too much, it can be accepted as a character flaw. The hero of the story, Rick Bragg, is much the same way - human and interesting. The two have a wonderful chemistry between them, at times innocent and at times electric.
A host of secondary characters help bring us into Francesca's world; although, they were to me too flawed too quickly. It's easier to like someone when we know there situation before learning their flaws, and I found myself struggling to like some key characters. Back story was slow coming (though I am sure this is to play out in later novels). Still, Francesca's family is close, and there is good sibling interaction.
Honestly, this book is worth a read. Francesca is a good, solid heroine who is fun to follow. I am interesting in seeing what becomes of Francesca and Rick in their later adventures. Hopefully one of the reasons the story was sometimes slow was simply character development that will pay off in the next few novels.

1 out of 5 stars Absolutely terrible.......2003-08-04

I was horribly disappointed by this book. When I bought it I though it would be a romance mystery. Unfortunately, its not a romance. The most romance in this book is a kiss between two main characters who can never get togeather, in this book or any other in the seiries. unexpressable unrequited love that is not overcome is not my idea of a romance. In addition to this, the myster part of the story is a major let down, boring and predictable from a mile away. If you want a romance or a mystery get a different book about the only thing this book is a waste of time. And for all of you who think that this may only be the case in the first book of the series i'm sorry to disappoint, none of the others in this series change this situation.

5 out of 5 stars A not to miss cannot put down book!.......2003-06-12

If anyone likes Brenda Joyce then they will love this book. You will swept away in amzing sexual tension, a complex mystery, and drop dead gorgeous brothers who persue Francesca, the heroine.

Book Description

Finally, here is an in-depth analysis of the most important factors surrounding the Laci Peterson murder case. Brad Knight discusses with candid frankness and sharp clarity the deadly love triangle of Laci, Scott and Amber, as well as many of the pivotal issues that were brought into the original investigation. Since then, much of this key evidence has been overlooked by the general media.

In Laci Peterson The Whole Story, learn answers to questions that you would never have thought to ask, but will wish you had. The author, intriguingly, lays out and compares several powerful new theories that the trial lawyers could have effectively worked to their advantage. 4 out of 5 stars This Revised Edition is Excellent.......2006-06-23

I've now read the revised edition of this book. I thought the original edition was good, but now it's been more professionalized with better editors, etc. It provided deep insight into most of the participants as well as plausible causes and effects of the event. I don't know who ladyJmeow"bad kitty" is, but she was talking about the wrong book here. Those pages she brought up were from the unrevised edition. Anyway, this one's a good solid read on the Laci Peterson case.

1 out of 5 stars The worst of the lot.......2006-05-23

I have read all the books on the market that covered this case.
Brad Knight's is the worst of them all. This book is loaded with factual errors and nonsense, but what was most troubling was his obvious contempt for single women with children. That mindset is archaic, egotistical, politically incorrect and derisive to the point of disgust. As for the errors, where was the publisher's fact checker, on vacation? By the time I was halfway through it, I kept a pencil and highlighter in my hand for the duration of the read. Here are some of my findings:

page 31: the author states that Laci told her friend Heather in December, 2002 that she was disappointed that she and Scott couldn't make it to Heather's Xmas party because of his work, and it was the last time Heather spoke to her friend. However, in reality, Laci did make it to the party sans Scott and to boot, the media showed photos OVER and OVER again of Laci at the party by herself. One book even juxtaposed the photo of the solitary Laci with the photo of Scott and Amber at another party the same night.

page 74: asserts that a woman of "lesser moral fiber" than Amber could have crossed to the "dark side" and not gone to the police. Yet, on page 181 he opines of Amber's "loose morals", even going so far as to say if it wasn't for her loose morals, Laci would be alive today! Pinning Laci's murder on Amber's conscience! More later on his disgusting characterization of Amber and her societal role as a single woman with a child.

page 118: discusses meeting some young girls at a Laci search and how he got one of their phone numbers. The book is supposed to be about the Laci story, we could do without the little personal asides throughout, such as this one where he boasts of getting a phone number..what's clearer is that he used a search and rescue effort to pick up chicks! And refer to the little aside on the bottom of page 138, his perverted curiousity of this woman. Again, we could have done without a window into his soft-porn thoughts.

page 120: one of two references to his bafflement that the police seized the white Dodge pickup Scott bought when he traded in the Landrover. It was common sense for those of us who watched the Larry King and Greta V coverage (including the author), that they took it in order to install the GPS tracking device for surveillance purposes. But even if that wasn't known, why is he questioning the cops using the truck, as he thought, to look for evidence. Why shouldn't they? It's not far fetched that Scott could have stored/hid something in there as soon as he got it, something that could be evidence in the case.

page 121: assumes that the police think the UPS driver should have known not to deliver a package in Laci's name to her home. DUH, I don't think the cops are that dense. If you have any clue as to how a delivery service works, and as a business owner that the author claims to be, there is no excuse not to, obviously there are policies that packages must be delivered to the shipping address on record unless the delivery service is told otherwise. And obviously, Scott didn't have the wine of the month membership stopped. No doubt the driver was under company orders to "attempt delivery". What was UPS supposed to do? Decide for themselves to return it, not ship it or ship to an alternate address? Hello, not a decision they are empowered to make.

page 143: states that Sharon Rocha called Scott to ask him to come to Richmond to identify the bodies, and goes on to paraphrase a phone conversation between them. This is innacurate. Sharon had not spoken to Scott for several weeks prior to the discover of the bodies. When she did call him after hearing the news, she left a message asking him to call her, which he did not do. The only conversation that Sharon actually had with a Peterson during this week was one she had with his mother soon after the discovery.

page 148: states that with the news of the discovery of the bodies, police immediately began tracking Scott's whereabouts..that's misleading..in fact, the police had been tracking him all along, what they did at that point was pinpoint his location to get men near him in order to pick him up at a moment's notice when the positive ID came in.

page 201: "turns up missing" Do I really have to point out the oxymoron?

page 210: provides an excerpt of a cultural anthropologist's assertion that the Laci murder was racially motivated, pointing to Laci's half "Hispanic" background. In this theory, Scott murdered Laci to destroy the 1/4 "Hispanic" baby he helped create because he preferred the white caucasion Amber. If the author had done his homework, he would have hopefully realized that this whole theory is moot because Laci's father's family was Portuguese, and as far as I know Portuguese are not Hispanic. They may be considered latin, or their language is derived from latin, but the people are not Hispanic. Further, the author suggests Scott was upset upon hearing about Laci's ancestry at a late stage in their courtship. How on earth does the author know at what point in their courtship Scott found out Laci's ancestry? If the author got this info from a source, he sure didn't say it. If Scott was upset by it, then why did he marry her if it was such a problem? Forget Scott "finding out" late in the courtship. Any joe schmoe would have recognized that there was some type of latin persuasion in her family tree if not from her looks, than from the pronounced vowel that serves as the last letter of her maiden name. Also, Scott and his mother had similar features as Laci..they were all three olive skinned, dark eyed and raven haired. Who's not to say there isn't a latin persuasion in Scott? Further, on page 213, he allows for the anthropologist's assertion that race was the reason Dennis Rocha let the caucasion Ron Grantski do all the talking. Apparently the author and the anthroplogist believe that to have kept Laci's disappearance at the forefront of news, you need to have a white caucasion spokesperson..the author assumes that was a Rocha family strategy. Talk about narrow scope. The anthropoligist may live in a racial fishbowl, but the author, if he was responsible, should have put forth that there are many possible explanations for Dennis having stayed in the background. Perhaps he felt he wasn't a confident public speaker, though the times I heard him speak, his words packed a very powerful, concise punch. Perhaps his grief was so overwhelmingly private to him he didn't want people watching it all of the time. To find a sociological explanation, the author should have looked deeper than the color of Dennis' skin. For instance, why not look at the type of man he was and his lifestyle. It was obvious from any cursory research on the family that Dennis was a farm man and spent his entire life tending to his farm. It could be said that Dennis was a simple man (and I do not mean in terms of intellect) but rather, that he lead a simple life, far from the busy, technology saturated corporate life of a more urban environment. The dairy farm was his life, not the hustle and bustle of a media drenched society. He'd probably never even seen a TV camera let alone have had to address one in his life. And finally, if the author had so many intimate, close-to-the-family but private sources, why didn't he just ask one of them for an explanation?

page 228: refers to Sharon as Ron Grantski's wife. Um, we didn't have to wait for evidence at the trial to know that Sharon and Ron were not married...the author could have clued himself in by his own hundreds of references to Sharon ROCHA and MRS. Rocha throughout the book. Or perhaps this offends his high level moral standard he sets for women.

page 270: refers to OJ, Nicole and Ron as a comparative love triangle to Scott, Laci and Amber. This is innacurate. It was not proven that Nicole and Ron had a romance and the speculation that OJ murdered Ron out of jealousy was ultimately superceded by the more sensible theory that Ron was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time.

page 318: lays out this whole long-winded perspective on why Sharon shouldn't have filed the wrongful death suit as early as she did, only later to realize that the law at the time had a one year statute of limitation from the time of the murder. If he ultimately knew this, why were we subjected to his 5 page armchair legal strategies? (all of which throughout this book must have been extremely offensive to any lawyer-readers, because they actually went to law school)

page 306: first reference to many cases of mis-spelling defense attorney/Greta panel-regular Geoffrey Feiger's name. He even claimed to love Greta's show, but he must not bother to read the big words on the screen ever, they always spell Geoff's name with a G.

And lastly, only fellow macho egoists would appreciate his opinions on pages 222-223 of Amber's life situation and how HE, big man, would have picked a woman with a "clean slate" without THAT (italicized in the book) kind of mileage. Oh it's mileage is it, to bear a child? That inference is disgusting and misogynistic. And his juxtaposition of a young woman with no children versus a woman with a child from a previous relationship who owned her own home..how he would certainly choose the young woman with nothing, but many guys would choose the latter, believing the home-ownership value outweighs the child from a previous relationship! Gee Brad, I guess nobody looks inside a person huh? The marital worth of a woman is based on outer, tangible elments, no man can go deeper than the surface it seems, to love a woman for their character and heart. Decent men out there with depth of character should be very offended by this book. And for all its unschooled legal ramblings, this book really just made a good "case" for women to stay single.

2 out of 5 stars Hard Read!.......2006-05-03

I never even finished this book! I have read most of the books about the Laci Peterson case, and this was one I bought before the others, such as Catherine Crier's or Sharon Rocha's, which I must say are the two best books written about the case, especially Sharon Rocha's, which I finished in three days, during my college midterms! Anyway, when I bought this book and started reading it, I got lost and bored with all the author's personal stories, which he somehow tried to relate to the case. I even tried skipping over his personal jarble to get to the actual parts about the Laci Peterson case, but that was hard also, so I just put the book away! In my opinion it would've been an okay book, if the author hadn't included all the personal stories and references about himself. I wouldn't suggest wasting your money on this one!

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Read - I was really moved........2006-04-01

I'm not that much into reading, but I couldn't put this book down. In some ways I hoped this book wouldn't end, there was so much good stuff. I was really enjoying parts of it and just couldn't help getting deeply involved in the story, as well as the incidents and participants. This author lived nearby and participated in much of the activity generated by the case early on, and then continued following it through from Modesto onto Redwood City. With all the material available on the case, this one was a new and, for me, a more likeable point-of-view of the biggest case in the nation. It was well written, going into more elaborate detail on the most intriguing parts of the case. The parts of the case we hear so little about, but want to know more, this author is very gratifying here. I've already recommended this book to several friends and family members.

5 out of 5 stars The Book That Resulted in 10 More on the Subject.......2006-01-21

Once Brad Knight wrote a book about this case, everybody wanted to do it. The Knight book was about the third to be released. This book seemed to give all other books on the subject a major kick in the butt. The other authors found themselves buckling down because now they knew they had a hard act to follow. After reading the book, I'll admit, for some reason all I could think about was wanting to write a book about this case too. If nothing else I can give Mr. Knight credit where credit is due: He's the most inspirational writer I have ever read. And, I say that having read a lot without being too outspoken before. I read two other books on the subject that weren't bad, but man, all I can say is that I wish I could write like Brad Knight.

In The Sins We Love, Seattle pastor Randy Rowland tackles one of the most charged words in Christianity. Almost everyone is guilty of committing sins, but only a few admit them, and even fewer people understand their seductive appeal. Although Rowland is most renowned for his other line of work (he is the popular public announcer for the Seattle Seahawks football team), he does not come off as an angry fire-and-brimstone pastor with a booming, loudspeaker voice. Instead, Rowland takes a more intimate approach. His tone is that of a kindly pastor who puts an arm around your shoulder after church and softly says, "The trouble is, you just don't understand why sin has such a powerful hold on you. Let me explain ..."

Rowland organized his chapters according to the seven deadly sins (pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony, and lust), which he calls "sirens." "They beckon us toward them as if they are indeed something lovely," he writes. "We fall in love with everything about these sins ... But when we answer their call, we find ourselves face to face with a nightmare that annihilates us." Every chapter discusses the particular attraction to these lethal sins. Thankfully, Rowland reveals his own sins and shortcomings, so he never falls into a holier-than-thou attitude. He then discusses how each poisonous sin seems to have an antidote--a specific virtue that overcomes the attraction to a sin while strengthening the reader's relationship with God.

Book Description

As a businessman, theology professor, and senior pastor, author Randy Rowland uses his intimate understanding of worldly and spiritual matters to investigate what makes sins so difficult to overcome. Part of the spell sins cast is attributable to the immediate emotional or physical gratification they give. This pull can be as irrationally compelling as a siren's call: we know following it can separate us from God and the chance for abiding happiness, yet we go on. Sins persist, as well, because of our talent for rationalizing them. It's easy to provide ready-made excuses--such as "Other people do worse things every day" or "This is nothing that hasn't been done before"--for practically every sin we commit. Rowland illustrates how the first step to breaking free from sin, as with any other compulsion, is admitting that it is a force in everyone's life.

While admitting that we love to sin is necessary, so is understanding the many different sins we love. To this end, Rowland uses the Seven Deadly Sins (pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony, and lust), first named and ordered by Gregory the Great in the late sixth century, as a map of our wanderings from God's path. Rowland also reminds us that while we sin, God forgives. The antidote to our sins comes in the form of virtues--gifts from God that combat our sins and bring us closer to God.

Far from being a fire-and-brimstone sermon, The Sins We Love, in a refreshingly original manner, uses the world's best-known categorization of human wrongdoings to cast a reassuring light into the dark corners of our souls.

This book will most definately chance the way you view yourself as well as others. If you thought you knew about yourself, you'll find it was only the beginning until you read this book.

4 out of 5 stars Life in the Midst of the Seven "Deadly" Sins.......2001-01-14

This is Randy Rowland's best book to date. He has tackled a seemingly boring, stale and legalistic area that has been dismissed by our society. In the process, he has provided life to the the sins that mar our lives that originate from our brokenness by providing a path of hope and love. Throughout the book, you sense Randy's empathy as I laugh and cry at the many his personal incidents and stories. His ability to simplify a very complex and controversial topic made it real and applicable to my life, not an intellectual exercise. Rather than an academic treatise on the "Seven Deadly Sins", Randy weaved an enjoyable thought provoking book that impacted my walk with God.

The gang is back from their very interesting trip to Vegas, and they are ready for whatever is thrown their way, since they have been through so much and it's finally the end of high school.

Beth and Adam are finally back together, after their really long break, full of lies, secrets, and cheating. This typical high school sweetheart couple just hasn't called it quits yet, but starting over doesn't mean that their feelings for other people have gone away just yet. And what they thought was in the past just may show up once again.

Having Beth and Adam together leaves Harper and Reed alone... once again. Harper thought that she and Adam actually had something special together and that they would finally be together forever. And even though Reed and Beth have had a rocky relationship, Reed sill believed that they could work it out. Maybe it's not too late for them after all.

Miranda has finally gotten Kane to be her boyfriend, even if the only thing that is on his mind is getting out of high school -- well, that and a certain secret that could just possibly cause him his life. But even though they may be a couple, are their feelings for real, or is it just a little fling?

It's almost graduation time, and plenty can change until then. Everyone is back, with a little GREED on their mind.

As the last book of the series, GREED was the perfect way to conclude. With even more secrets and deception, fights and misunderstandings, who knew that high school drama could be so appealing? Fans of this series will not be disappointed with how Robin Wasserman completes the story. The only thing that will be on their mind is: why aren't there anymore sins?

5 out of 5 stars The End of an Era..........2007-07-04

The end is here. Robin Wasserman has introduced the final installment in the Seven Deadly Sins series. This book I found was one of the best in the series. This book not only introduces much of the drama so often found in this books but ties up many of the loose ends. In this book Harper deals with her feelings for Adam and daily life. Adam is torn between two girls he loves. Beth and Harper. Beth is needing help getting over her emotions and moving on with her life and Adam is a good suppport. But Beth undergoes a few changes in the book which made me fonder of her charcter. Miranda is busy dealing with her relationship with Kane. Kane is busy dealing with other business. This book has a little bit of sex, drug deals, 2 arrests, someone is missing out on graduation, and a few more twists and surprises! The end is here...and the end is great!

Book Description

An island of beauty becomes a gateway to terror . . .

Few could argue that the exclusive island of San Martin is anything less than paradise. In this wealthy enclave, veterinarian Markie Cross has a thriving practice, but her almost psychic connection to animals has made human relationships -- especially with men -- harder to navigate. Until mystery, murder and something unfathomable shatter her world . . .

People are dying strange, unexplained deaths. Island medical examiner Declan Quinn is stunned at the unearthly condition of the bodies, and he and Markie share a dark suspicion that something terrifying and impossible is at work here. Something that may not be human.

As a sinister message becomes clearer, Markie and Dec race to understand the tragic history of this island paradise and unlock the true nature of the evil now descending. Because if they can't, Markie may become the next victim . . .

5 out of 5 stars Great Thriller.......2007-02-28

Like dogs? Love a good thriller? Add an evil spirit and a dash of romance, and you've got _Something Deadly_, by Rachel Lee. Make sure you have plenty of time once you start it...you won't want to put it down.

5 out of 5 stars Something Deadly.......2007-01-28

I just got this book yesterday and I had it finished the same day. Very good and the suspense was really good. I have read a lot of Rachel Lee's books and she is always keeping you glued to the book and you cant put it down.

5 out of 5 stars A barkingly good read.......2006-11-08

Part supernatural, part thriller, pure mystery, this story is set among the wealthy residents who live on a fictional Caribbean island.

People are suddenly dying; an almost unseen force shreds the life out of several San Martin citizens, leaving their bodies looking like they have been liquefied. At first some sort of Ebola like virus is suspected and one of the island's medical examiner's Declan Quinn fears the worst, but at first he looks for a human cause for the deaths, what he does not know in the beginning is that that the answer to his questions lie not with the humans on the island but with its dogs who have the ability to sense evil when it wafts their way.

Kato is a wolf-husky hybrid owned by the island vet, Markie Cross. More wolf than dog, he and all his other canine brethren on the island sense what the locals have known for a very long time but have chosen to try and forget; The notorious Annie Black, who has been dead for the some 200 years, has returned and she is determined to make up for lost time.

Greedy gold hunters have unwittingly bought Annie back into the human world by daring to search for her treasure, which just happens to be buried on Markie's land.

Only Declan and the Island dogs have a chance of defeating Annie, but in order to do so Declan must take Markie to the very edge of death and hope and pray that he can bring her back before it is too late...

An atmospheric read that is a real page turner, I especially like the spiritual element that the author gives to Kato and the other dogs; it is obvious she has a passion for all things canine.

4 out of 5 stars Something Deadly.......2005-07-12

Dogs howling in unexplained distress all over the island herald the first horrifying death. A middle aged man in seemingly perfect health collapses and dies, his insides liquified. Declan Quinn, the head medical examiner is terrified by this outre event, and feels that it is only the beginning. He's right. Markie Cross, the local vet, is drawn in by her wolf hybrid's strange behavior, and the effect these deaths seem to have on the dogs in the area. Something evil has risen from the grave, something that craves death and revenge. Dec and Markie race against time to stop the ghost of a woman who rivalled Elizabeth Bathory for evilness before she can wipe out the entire island.

**** Ms. Lee keeps her readers on the edge of their seats in this taut drama. The fast pace will hold you captivated until the end. ****

5 out of 5 stars Loved this book!!.......2004-05-07

I just finished reading "Something Deadly" by Rachel Lee and thought it was wonderful. In fact the story was so fast paced with such a fascinating story that I read it in two days. I especially enjoyed the viewpoint of the wolf-hybird dog, Kato. I have two large dogs myself and totally agree with the author's presentation of intelligence and loyalty. I like the fact that Markie and Dec were presented as real people with real emotions and intellect. They weren't cardboard characters that immediately fell in love like so many romances. The supernatural twist was intriguing and well done. I plan to read more books by Rachel Lee and would recommend this book to anyone who has dogs as friends and companions and also enjoys books with supernatural themes.

4 out of 5 stars An Insightful View of a Gay Everyman and His World.......2001-01-07

"The Seven Deadly Sins of Love" is the second of Eric Orner's Eric Green comic books. This series shows the Eric Green, his friends, family, lovers, co-workers, and the gay and straight communities interacting in collections of short comic strips. Orner does an excellent job of depicting gay relationships, how gays feel about dealing with straights, and bringing out the inner conflicts that make gay life difficult. "Sins" shows development of the artwork and story from its predecessor, "The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green", though continuing a strong presence of the Hat Sisters and Ethan's cat. The Ethan Green series is always good, though tending to improve both art, characters, and story as it goes on. This series is the funniest and most truthful comic depiction of gay male life anywhere. Highly recommended.
