Very cute book!.......2007-09-17
This is a very cute book! I'm 8 months pregnant and my husband has been reading this book to my belly for the past few months. The baby already loves it but i'm sure she'll love it even more when she can hold daddy's hands with her own 10 little fingers!
Loves It.......2007-08-27
My little absolutely loves these books. I have to read one or more of the everyday.

Ten Little Fingers by Annie Kubler is one of a series of books that is a perfect fit for very little ones. The rhythm and rhyme draws their attention and the illustrations are big blobs of color, sharply delineated from each other. You can start with an infant who is old enough to focus and they will be enthralled by the colors. The size of the book is good for holding open with one hand as you hold the baby in the other arm.

This is a finger play for babies and toddlers. I bought it to have at home for when my granddaughters visit. The book is cute enough, but there is just not "enough" meat to this book to justify a whole book for one finger play. I do like that the musical notes are provided, so that I can play the song on the piano. Just wish there were a couple other songs/finger plays.
Ten Little Fingers.......2007-05-14
The shipping fee is about same as the book price itself. That will end up about double price of a children book.

I purchased this book for my son when he was 15 months old and he loves this book. He brings it to me to read to him over and over again. The illustrations are fun, he loves the song, and he knows all the body parts now. Many times I have seen him flipping through the book on his own "studying" the pictures. Given I don't usually pay to buy new books that cost more than a dollar or two, this one was definately worth it!
Buy "Where's My Belly Button" instead.......2007-06-13
This is merely a verbatim book version of the old playschool song "head and shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes . . " It could be made a bit more worthwhile if the art was engaging or dynamic in some way, but it's blah (think Precious Moments meets Charlie Brown) and does little to enhance a young childs perception of where to find his/her head, shoulders, knees . . well you get to idea.

My grandson (19 months) absolutely crows when he sees this one in Grammy's bag of books when I visit! He immediately brings it to me, plops himself into my lab and demands, "Row row!" This has been going on for at least 3 or 4 months and he shows no indication of becoming tired of it. Annie Kubler has really identified what babies love!

Book Description
The Gift
Annie Trimble lives in a solitary world that no one enters or understands. As delicate and beautiful as the tender blossoms of the Oregon spring, she is shunned by a town that misinterprets her affliction. But cruelty cannot destroy the love Annie holds in her heart.
Alex Montgomery is horrified to learn his wild younger brother forced himself on a helpless "idiot girl." Tormented by guilt, Alex agrees to marry her and raise the babe she carries as his own. But he never dreams he will grow to cherish his lovely, mute, misjudged Annie--her childlike innocence, her womanly charms and the wondrous way she views her world. And he becomes determined to break through the wall of silence surrounding her--to heal...and to healed by Annie's sweet song of love.
Customer Reviews:
One or two quibbles, but otherwise fantastic.......2007-06-16
As always, Anderson's book thoroughly engage me. The characters, the emotions, the storyline...the book just sucked me in completely. So I ended up giving it the highest rating despite the fact that there were a couple issues I had with it.
There was such a sad element to this story. Anderson definitely does not shy away from non-traditional heroines. Annie is supposedly the "idiot" girl...not right in the head with the mentality of a small child, but that's not even close to the truth. It's fascinating to see how the characters deal with the situation, how they grow and change and adapt. How Alex and Anne developed a relationship. It was so emotional and wonderful to read. Anderson just has this amazing knack for pulling me into her characters and stories. I just fly right through her books, and this one was no different.
My two complaints about this book...first, I had some issue with the realism of the story. Though I loved the situation and how it worked out, I had to wonder how likely any of it was. The local business mogul marrying a girl everyone thinks is a total and complete moron. It was a little questionable. Since I'm not familiar with Annie's true...affliction...I can't particularly comment on how Anderson dealt with that. I suspect some would have complaints. I also felt that there was some phrasing and situational stuff that wasn't historically accurate.
I was bothered more by how insular that story was. The book was entirely focused on the main characters, very few supporting people, and two locales, and that's it. It was just very segregated and lacked depth in that respect. This was a problem because an issue that was brought up in the story was how the townspeople would shun Alex for marrying Annie because of her problem. During that period, the handicapped were not accepted and were often treated badly, along with those associated with them. This was a big deal and it was mentioned...but then never dealt with. After he married Annie, we never once got any sense of how it was seen outside the home. The entire book from that point on was pretty much just Annie, Alex, his two servants, and his house. Nothing else. I wanted to know how this issue affected everyone in the real world, how Alex was seen and treated, and there was just nothing of that. It sucked some of the realism from the story. It didn't kill the book in any way for me; I still love it, but the story would have been enriched if that aspect had been properly explored.
Annie Song by Catherine Anderson.......2007-01-12
I'm not usually a Historical Romance person, but recently I have come to like the author Catherine Anderson. I got hooked on a series of books that continue a family from book to book. When I saw Annies Song and read what it was about, I new I would like it. It was based in the 1800's, and for me it was an emotional story. I actually forgot it was a historical unless they mentioned traveling by horse verses car, and that didn't happen to often. I would re-read this book again anytime.
The Gift of Love.......2006-12-09
Alex will do anything to make Annie happy. But will it cost him the one thing he wants the most - her?
One of the most moving stories I've read. If you haven't read this book, run - don't walk - to the bookstore to pick up a copy.
Moving!.......2006-08-28
Oh how Anderson always pulls at my heartstrings. She has made a very touching love story about a deaf woman and the man that loves her more than life itself. There is nothing and I mean nothing that Alex won't do for his Annie. This book is pure love. She has portrayed Alex in the best possible light. Handsome, Sweet, Caring, Loving and most of all Understanding. And then there is sweet Annie with her untouched heart and sweet soul. No two people deserve each other more than these two. I loved the scene in the attic when Annies trying to hold her cries in so she does'nt make any noise and Alex finally getting through to her that nothing she does would ever upset him, that was the start of Annies trust for Alex and it was done beautifully. The love scene with her being pregnant was written so well and loving. Mrs. Anderson has outdone herself. Other reviewers said there was no romance - this book is about love, its not loaded with sex or romantic wooing, its about love in its best form. Five stars for me and if you have not read it yet, run out and get it you will not be disappointed.
Wow...Just Wow..........2006-08-24
Annie's Song, is one of those books that stays with you long after you've finished reading it. It is a wonderful love story.
Annie is a deaf girl. But everyone including her parents, thinks that she is a moron. Alex's brother Douglas, rapes her, when he is drunk, and Annie gets pregnant. Alex kicks Douglas out of the house for his shameful, horrible behavior, and then he finds himself forced to marry Annie for the baby's sake.
At first Alex avoids Annie, keeping her in her room. Then as things progress, he discovers that Annie is not mad, or a moron, but deaf. He gets furious with her parents for not allowing a doctor to see her before. Annie had grown up, shunned by everyone, including her parents, because everyone thought that she was mad, a moron. But Alex instead discovered a beautiful woman, with childlike innocence, trapped in silence, and wanting so badly to be like everyone else. The scene where he dances with her in the attic, will make you cry and laugh.
This is romance at its utmost best. A wonderful, perfect, tender, beautiful, original, and deeply moving story of love. With memorable funny moments, that will make you laugh out loud, and unforgettable tender moments, that will make your heart flutter, or move you to tears. With an unexpected twist towards the end, about Alex's past, that will take you by complete surprize.
Catherine Anderson, does it again. A suburp story. Highly recommended!

Book Description
Before she wrote her Pulitzer Prize-winning bestseller The Shipping News, E. Annie Proulx was already producing some of the finest short fiction in the country. Here are her collected stories, including two new works never before anthologized.
These stories reverberate with rural tradition, the rites of nature, and the rituals of small-town life. The country is blue-collar New England; the characters are native families and the dispossessed working class, whose heritage is challenged by the neorural bourgeoisie from the city; and the themes are as elemental as the landscape: revenge, malice, greed, passion. Told with skill and profundity and crafted by a master storyteller, these are lean, tough tales of an extraordinary place and its people.
Customer Reviews:
Proulx Pulls No Punches.......2007-08-16
One thing you must realize about Annie Proulx--she pulls no punches. Heart Songs and Other Stories is absolutely no exception to the rule.
In this collection of short stories, Proulx give us characters that are not terribly intelligent, sophisticated, attractive, or even likable. But, what they are is real. We've all met at least one of the characters in this book, and that's the magic of Proulx's writing. She's not interested in creating a romantic hero; she's interested in telling real stories about real people ... who happen to be fictional. And, like so many of us, they have moments that aren't exactly shining.
I've read quite a bit of Proulx, and this book is one of her earlier efforts. It's not quite as stylistically refined as her later work, but it is still a magnificent read. The fact she is absolutely so willing to spit in beauty's face makes her no-nonsense stories and rough and tumble characters all the more beautiful.
If you haven't read any Proulx yet, you really should.
I can never get enough.......2006-11-10
Nothing will ever top Annie Proulx's THE SHIPPING NEWS, but everything this
talented woman writes is a jewel. Her short story collections are just
riveting. The stories stay with me long after I've read them. Her characters
are rich and real. Many people have said they reread her sentences because
they are so dazzling and breathtaking. It's true. I look forward to anything she
she writes, as her fiction is the best.
Images Abound in Proulx's Style.......2006-02-22
Along with the use of active voice, something else jumped out at me the moment I had read a few pages of Proulx. She's loaded with images. Her images come mostly from apt and surprising similes. (That's not email "smilies.") As we learned in school, a simile is a figure of speech that expresses a resemblance between things of different kinds--usually formed with 'like' or 'as.'
Her similes bring to life her descriptions of people and enhance the concrete "feel" of things and places in her stories. The first sentence of the book has two of them, maybe not the best she has to offer, but two that immediately create images that pile up as she goes along: "Hawkheel's face was as finely wrinkled as grass-dried linen, his thin back bent like a branch weighted with snow." Another reviewer (Library Journal) has pointed out how she refers to a character as "thin as a folded dollar bill, her hand as narrow and cold as a trout." Maybe these images account for some of the appeal her style has for many readers. I for one find them satisfying and stimulating, here in the short stories even more than in Shipping News.
Brutal, Passionate Stories.......2005-04-29
If you want to read short stories about mad, cantakerous and passionate characters, read this collection of short stories. Annie Proulx astonished us with her remakable and refreshingly original novel, "The Shipping News," and while she has stated that she is not as proficient in writing short stories as in writing novels, I disagree. I could not put down these stories of the brutal and grotesque rural landscape, and none of the stories disappoints. I look forward to reading her other collections, "Close Range: Wyoming Stories" and "Bad Dirt: Wyoming Stories 2." Ms. Proulx is fast becoming one of America's leading authors of fiction.
Gritty stories told in flinty-sharp prose!.......2004-07-30
Excellent collection of short stories by one of the very best short story writers, set in a rural community where poor country folk struggle to eke out a living. Tough, gritty stories with a deep-rooted connection to the land that give full play to the author's gift for capturing rugged, rural landscape in all its moods. Hunting and fishing provides an unusual backdrop for some of the human dramas played out: revenge, ill-will, greed, infidelity, passion and jealously, violence and death are all strong presences in these stringent stories so don't be misled by the tame hunting and fishing reference. Annie Proulx creates a cast of vivid characters - eccentric, downtrodden, down and out, malicious and conniving - bringing them alive in the space of a striking image or phrase.
A strong theme threading through several stories is the clash of values of two very different worlds: the world of wealthy outsiders from the city with their flash guns, flash hunting gear, flash cars, flash houses and unwelcome improvements impinging on the land, customs and traditions of the poor rural community, the actions of the outsiders often appearing naive, clumsy, even foolish. My personal favourite is Stone City: a hunter stumbles on a remote, derelict farm high up on the snow-covered wooded hillsides but senses an atmosphere of evil pervading the abandoned ruin, Stone City, once owned by the Stone family, old man Stone and his brood of wild, unruly offspring. Gradually, more shocking revelations about the Stones and the grim past of Stone City come to light. Try also Annie Proulx's other superb short story collection of Wyoming stories, Close Range. Both books highly recommended!

"Hold out your Teddy Bear arms...!" (hug, hug)
That's how storytime begins with this book, which will encourage active participation even in babies who aren't signing.
Very cute pictures of babies and helpful captions for parents on the pictures of signs make this a series of books you will enjoy together again and again.
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear includes many very useful basic signs. This isn't my favourite of the series - I guess because it's a rhyme, not a song, but DD2 still loves hearing it.
Recommended for ages 1-2 only, as it's a very basic rhyme that older toddlers will probably not sit still for for long.
