I honestly think this is one of the most wonderful, deep, profound books on the nature of God that's ever been written.
Tozer wrote, and spoke, so much awesome truth about the attributes of God - but this is his most succinct, intense, short, boiled down version of all that wonderful revelation.

This book is like an oasis in the middle of our busy lives. Here we get closer to God because we learn to know Him and thus, to love Him.
This book reminds us that we are not to mistake God for a nice fellow whose job is to help us out. No, this one is an earth-shaking book. It inspires awe in the hearts of the fainted, it awakes you from your self-deluding day-dreams. By describing His attributes (holiness, immutability, divine omniscience, wisdom, omnipotence, transcendence, omnipresence, faithfulness, goodness, justice, mercy, grace, love, sovereignty...) is describes Him, and it produces a humbling experience in us so great that we feel embarrassed to spend so much time thinking of ourselves and so little of Him.
It is a shame that we only remember Him to ask favors or to thank Him mechanically for blessings; if we only took some time to really focus on Him, to contemplate all His attributes, what He is and does in the world and in our lives. If we could only appreciate Him more completely, and not so narrowly... it would be humbling and awe-inspiring.
This book really helps those who have a mechanical faith: a faith that has stopped growing because the focus has narrowed into attitudes like: "business as usual", or "it's all about me", or "what should I do". And we don't think about Him (the Trinity) actually; we think about things, whether spiritual or worldy, but things anyhow. Well, stop or you'll extenuate yourself. Focus of Him: Father, Son & Holy Spirit. How? Here are His attributes explained. It gives a completely new meaning to the words 'praise and worship' because, when you finish the book, you'll really know Who you are praising and worshipping. It won't be mechanical any longer.
Then we can truly say that knowing Him is loving Him. Amen.

For those who are seeking to know more about God, this is a book that should be among the first to be read. As author A.W. Tozer states in the very first chapter of his book, "We tend by a secret law of the soul to move toward our mental image of God." "The man who comes to a right belief about God is relieved of ten thousand temporal problems." "There is scarcely an error in doctrine or a failure in applying Christian ethics that cannot be traced finally to imperfect and ignoble thoughts about God." And then he launches into describing the God about whom we truly know so little, by examining, one by one, His attributes: His self-sufficiency, His eternity, His omniscience, sovereignty, holiness, etc.
If the reader's search to know his God is a heartfelt one, he should be prepared to be surprised and awed by what Tozer reveals. For he examines God's attributes thoroughly and with a clarity born of great wisdom. For the seeking Christian, this book will be a treasure. Otherwise, of course, this book will make no sense at all.
For me, an added bonus was the writing style of Tozer. As an author who lived during the first half of the 1900s, he obviously belonged to that age which greatly valued literature, and wrote accordingly. I reveled in the beautiful way he expressed himself: "The heaviest obligation lying upon the Christian Church today is to purify and elevate her concept of God until it is once more worthy of Him."

This book is simple, but touching. I have given it to all of my friends. We all need a reminder of how much God loves us, and this really gets the point across in a short, sweet way. It is especially helpful when I am feeling ungrateful or down & makes me look at all that I have in my life. The best book I have ever read. Just awesome!

This is a wonderful book for kids. It's out of print, however, but I was able to find it through Amazon.com. It's simple, fun, and a quick read that clearly illustrates how special each child is to God. The author, Max Lucado, never disappoints. I bought a copy for each of my grandchildren for Easter and one for a First Communion Gift and they all loved it.

I think all the God's Promise type books originated from this one. It's still the best, most concise, least expensive of them all, and my personal favorite. It's cheap, which makes it easy to keep a copy at work, in your purse, at home etc. It's perfect for those days when feel like screaming, take your book to a private place, find the appropriate verses and you'll be empowered to continue on within minutes.

i think the most important step in choosing a bible is the version. this is an nkjv, and i'm very pleased with how easy this version reads.when others pick it up, i am usually asked if i could get them a copy, and even my kids find this version understandable, and therefore enjoyable.
that aside, this is the most beautiful bible i've seen. with paintings from thomas kincaide, and the words of his wife, i have found a new beauty in grabbing and READING my bible.i have had the juniper(dark)green leather bound copy for two yrs.i am pleased with how good it looks, and i do not have a delicate hand! i have also given them as gifts.my local bible shop charged just a few dollars to personalize, which should be a considaration in price. reading this pretty bible feels like a treat!
A beautiful "take anywhere" Bible.......2005-11-18
Thomas Kinkade fans will not be disappointed! I have only had this Bible for a week and am just delighted! This Bible is absolutely beautifully illustrated. My words do not even do it justice.
This NKJV is sleek and put together very well. It is not too large or heavy making it easily portable, yet the size of the print is still large enough for comfortable reading. (For the record, I have very bad vision corrected with contacts.) I have seen reference Bibles larger than this one with smaller size print!
The devotions are also very inspiring, but I have not read them all yet. While the devotions I have read are very good, there are not that many of them as compared to other more in depth devotional Bibles. (About one per week, plus a few more.) This is not a bad thing. It is just not that type of Bible. All of these devotions, as I understand it, were written by Nanette Kinkade, and I appreciate her sharing them very much!
The overall quality of this edition is exceptional. To be fair, I am not sure about the hardback edition as I have never seen one. I realize this is a matter of preference, but I believe, the bonded leather edition is the way to go. It may cost a bit more, but it is well-worth the difference in price. I say this as it seems Kinkade's pictures just seem to belong in a leather bound Bible. Again, this is a matter of opinion. His pictures are certainly beautiful any where.
The only real complaint or disappointment I had was that this is not a red letter edition of the Bible. It was put together so well and so beautifully, however, that I didn't mind it as much as I thought I would.

We recently used this book in a graduate counseling class and many of us were, well, disappointed. The book is highly informative in many areas of sexuality; however, much of our class (especially the females) felt that there was an over-emphasis on "pleasure" (instead of exploring the spiritual components of sexuality) and that it was overly-stereotypical in much of its content. For a "technique and sexual dysfunctions book," this is okay; if you want a much better book on the Celebration aspect of sexuality, read Dr. Gardner's book: Sacred Sex: A Spiritual Celebration of Oneness in Marriage

Rosenau's book is thorough, practical, biblical, and truly helpful. He covers a wide range of topics related to sex that are often not addressed, especially in Christian circles. As another reviewer mentioned, there are a few points on which I disagree with him, such as suggesting petroleum jelly as a lubricant option, but overall I highly recommend this book for everyone seeking to learn about sex.

This has been a great book with tons of useful information so far. I really like it because it focuses not just on "sex" but on the whole sexual and marital relationship between a man and a woman and encourages you to develop as a well-rounded couple. Recently purchased this little leather bound 3 books in 1 gift set and couldn't put it down. Easy to read and understand for anyone that may be new to scriptures and/or Christianity.
I really enjoyed the scriptual positive confessions he lists in the book for different areas of life that we may need help in. His main point is that there is so much power in our words that we need to watch what we say for truly life and death are in the power of the tongue.
Too many people throw around phrases like "my back is killing me" without realizing the power in those words. Mr. Capps emphasizes that words are the most powerful thing in the universe.
What I also liked is that not only does Mr. Capps emphasize the power of God in dealing with our health and finances, plus he also states that we use common sense and not be a "stubborn christian."
Meaning that we don't just stop taking our medication or seeing doctors because of Christian pride unless we are directed to do so by the Holy Spirit. Although our goal is for divine healing and it's already been paid for through the blood of Jesus, we need to stop and listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
It's an easy to read book that can be taken with you wherever you go and I highly recommend its purchase. This is one that I will read over and over again and always have handy when I need a spiritual pick me up.

WOW. I knew our words hold power but what I didn't realize is just how powerful our words are in the Spirit realm and here on Earth. Remember Jesus told His Disciples in Matt 18:18 that they had power to bind and loose (release). I believe this is still true today because Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. It makes sense that if we are called to do "even greater things" and since "every careless word spoken" will be judged then we ought to be very careful when and how we communicate. This book will Rock your world! Read it and give it away to friends.

This is an entertaining and educational book concerning the Hindu Pantheon. Although it has the appearance of a children's book, this is actually aimed towards a teenage audience and regardless of your age this is just a great introduction and pictorial glossary of the Hindu gods and goddesses. Anyone that's attempted to take on the Bhagavad-Gita or heaven-forbid the entire Mahabharata without having at least a rudimentary knowledge of the Hindu Pantheon will no doubt find themselves confused.
This book isn't written for children as the language is about middle school to high school level, not to mention the many Hindi words the book introduces. The book is easily laid out as an easy resource guide that you can turn to whenever you need a refresher concerning a particular god, goddess, or avatar. Each pair of pages is an illustration of the god or subject being discussed with the description on the other.

The 'Samurai Jack' style illustrations are well done and add a personality that is easy to identify with. Using this book will add a element of fun to your studies of Hindu literature or perhaps just help you to know just what the heck they are always talking about in those Bollywood movies. Looking for an introductory text on the Hindu pantheon I stumbled on _The Little Book of Hindu Dieties_. While a bit corny (the illustrations are reminiscent of "Hello, Kitty" and the stories behind them are geared towards a younger audience), this book is more than an encyclopedic of the major Hindu dieties - it is also explains the Hindi epics Mahabharata (including a separate section on the Baghavad Ghita) and Ramayana in addition to several demigods, the Indian solar system, and animal gods. In short, it is a fabulous introduction to Hinduism's major dieties and literature - quite an achievement, and worthy of 5 stars.
The Best Little Book about Anything!.......2007-05-12
Sanjay Patel's illustrations are so amusing. That's the only reason to purchase this books. It helps to play with imagination. Hindu Gods and Godesses are full of symbolism and Sanjay Patel is able to explain a lot of it through his text. Although, the descriptions of the deities can be a little corny, and it is a little iffy - if that's what you want your child's first impression of God. But it is a cute book overall.

My 82 yr old cousin was reading this book when I visited her this spring. She read an entry every day & had for years. When I got home, I ordered a copy & I am so in love w/it. I just open it randomly & the treasures I find are such a blessing. What I find is "what Jesus would say" if he could just pull up a chair & talk w/me. This is a very blessed book. I have so much respect & gratitude for the people who brought it into being. They really did the job Jesus asked them to do.

A wonderful book for Protestants and Catholics alike.......2007-08-27
As an EXTREMELY picky traditional Catholic homeschooler, I usually have a difficult time finding books that are in sync with keeping our children pure and innocent yet also preparing them for the world. This book does both. Even thought the book is not Catholic, it is very Christian and has nothing contrary to the Catholic faith in my opinion. Quite the contrary, it backs up exactly what I want to teach my daughter, and in a beautiful, innocent, and captivating way. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and my 4 year old daughter just LOVED the book. The two younger toddler boys happened to like them alot as well, even if they don't understand the finer details! The wonderful thing about this book is that it goes the "extra mile". Not only does it teach that in order to keep your purity you must keep your virginity, but it also (rightly) teaches that there's alot more to purity than just not going that "last step", but that saving your "kiss" is an honorable thing also to be treasured. Highly recommend!

This is a great Catholic book on purity! I would definately recommend it! I would also recommend the boys' book: "The Squire and the Scroll", also by Jennie Bishop. Both should be on every christain family's book shelf!

Very good way to lead to many discussion on purity and why to wait until marriage. Nice illustrations too! I highly recommend. In fact, I just ordered copies to hand out as the goody bag treat at my daughter's princess party. She liked the book so much that she requested we hand them out.
A very bazaar book -- not for preschoolers, better for teens........2007-06-02
The Princess and the Kiss: A Story of God's Gift of Purity was written by Jennie Bishop for her daughters. She explains her goal on the back cover of the book: "I asked God how I could teach my young daughters the value of their purity, how I could begin in their early years to stress the importance and beauty of saving themselves for marriage."
The story, like most fairy tales, begins with a wonderful castle in a majestic kingdom. There a princess is born to the king and queen. On the day of her birth they give her a very special gift from God -- "her first kiss." The king and queen take care of her kiss while she is growing and, when she is old enough, they give it to her and explain how special it is. "This kiss is yours to keep ... or to give away, as you see fit." Her father warns her to use wisdom and save her kiss for the man she will marry.
Eventually suitors come calling. One is prideful and full of himself. Another is rich and another romantic. The princess finds reasons to dismiss them all. None are good enough for her kiss. Finally a poor farmer approaches her. He has nothing to give her but his very first kiss, which he has saved just for her. They are married and live happily ever after.
The book concludes by quoting 1 Timothy 1:5 -- "Love ... comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith." (NIV)
Preston McDaniels does a fantastic job as illustrator. The pages are filled with pastel colors, regal details and enchanting characters. Perfectly fitting for the tone of the story.
What I Like: The concept. It is important to teach children the value of purity. The author has tackled a difficult subject for a young audience. I love the illustrations! I wish they were more colorful, but they are so classic and beautiful.
What I Dislike: I found this book very odd. The intended audience is far too young for such a detailed metaphor. It's confusing. Does this mean we shouldn't kiss anyone? What if we find a good man who has already given away his "kiss"? Do only poor people know the value of their "kisses"? The story, I felt, was too simplistic in its conclusions. I have friends who love this book and read it often to their preschoolers. I love the idea of teaching the lesson early, but feel this book is more appropriate for older girls: tweens and above. I still haven't read it to our daughter(three years old).
Overall Rating: For the suggested age range: Poor. For teengagers: Good.
Age Appeal: 4-8 (according to the publisher), but I recommend 10 and above.

Once again, another excellent resource from Beth Moore! I purchased these books for our Bible Study Group to use at home between classes. Everyone loves them! They are thought-provoking and contain very insightful kick-off questions that cause the reader to think and pen their own thoughts. Each day's devotion wonderfully ends with a one-page section entitled "Respond with Prayer" where you journal a personal prayer to God based on that day's devotional. I cannot recommend this enough as an awesome devotional journal!
