...that's how Rayce Coburne felt. He'd tried to give up treasure acquisition. It wasn't the danger that put him off; he despised dealing with icy customers like the Majj. And Tru Van Dye was worse than the usual-a prissy woman who would blackmail him with all his hopes and dreams. Still, while she was smarter than he, there was a way he could fight back: a kiss. A kiss a day was the perfect strategy. Unless the spinning he felt inside was Tru unwrapping his heart.
. Rayce would never do business with or for a Majj, but he needs the credits to finish his dream...A luxurious space station. When he meets Tru, Rayce dislikes her cool demeanor at once. You see, Rayce lost a loved one because of the greedy Majj. His dislike is apparent to Tru, which is just find with her. The more distance between them, the better. Rayce and Tru will have to overcome their differences and band together to survive in, at times, dangerous and unexpected, planetary adventure. Along the way, Rayce can no longer stop his sexual urges toward Tru. Tru, needs to know what it is like to be desired by a real man. Together, they melt the frigid wall of ice Tru has built up, and the fog of anger Rayce has been in, to find a desire so strong, it might ignite their whole universe...
This is the second in C. J. Barry's series, the first being Unearthed, with is sold-out at this time. Unraveled is sure to follow in the footsteps of Unearthed, faster than you can say planetary travel! I would buy more than one, because you will wear out your first copy *G*. Unraveled is another jewel in C. J. Barry's crown, with this sexually charged futuristic hit, that is...UNRAVELED...
Enter an exciting world.........2005-01-16
Five roses! Enter the exciting world created by Ms. Barry, as Tru and Rayce travel from galaxy to galaxy in search of a lost treasure. You'll enjoy how these two loveble space travelers get in and out of trouble, not to mention in and out of each other's hair, until they find what they are searching for, and discover a treasure greater than they imagined. The story is not only creative and humorous but its hotter than a "Rostron" mud bog! And, you'll find yourself wishing we did have VirtuWav machines! If you like Joanna Lindsey's futuristic novels, you'll be delighted in this one. Ms. Barry has landed a winner!
An enthralling, sensual adventure.......2004-11-20
Wow, is all I can say!! I started this book and did not put it down until I finished it at 1:00 am. This book has all of the qualities I love in a great story. My two favorite genres are science fiction and romance. C. J. Barry combines the best of both in Unraveled.
I was intrigued by the story that spanned different planets and involved solving the puzzle of the location of the legendary Curzon Collection. In the story, Barry tied in the ancient Egyptian pyramids on Earth. The search for The Curzon Collection involved finding similar pyramids on different planets. Tru and Rayce are both likeable and easy to relate to. Both face their own moral dilemas on their journey. They also discover more than just passion exists between them.
I know I will be reading all of C. J. Barry's books.

Customer Reviews:
an enjoyable light read.......2007-08-15
The perfect book to curl up with when you are tired. You will not have to think much when you read this book, the author's habit of spelling everything out for you, makes this a nice light read.
The Best Yet.......2007-08-09
I love the gothic elements of this entry in the Needlecraft Mysteries. Betsy and Jill head off for a "restful" vacation at a remote lodge, only to fall right into a mystery. Or is it just a product of Betsy's overactive imagination? The duo must rely on their wits and Betsy's unerring talent for ferreting out the truth to figure out what's going on.
I like how Ferris continues to add new dimensions to her characters. Betsy struggles with her pull to solve mysteries while also dealing with the emotional aspects of solving crimes. Will she fight her nature to find peace of mind, or continue to help others find out the truth?
One thing that bugs me is in the last few books, everyone (particularly Jill) seems to be too solicitous of Betsy. In the early books, this made sense, because her sister had just died. But now, c'mon! She's a grown woman and doesn't need someone "tucking her in" and telling her she looks tired and needs to rest every 15 pages. Let Betsy stand on her own two feet -- she (and the series) will be stronger for it!
Wonderful entertainment.......2006-08-14
Kept me awake to the wee hours--thank God I am retired !1 I want more mysteries like this.
When Vacations Go Bad.......2004-08-24
Betsy Devonshire owner of Crewel World, a needlecraft shop in Excelsior, Minnesota is tired. She's been having nightmares for awhile and wants to get away for a rest.
What better way to rest then to go with her friend, deputy Jill Cross to a "stitch-in" at Naniboujou Lodge. Or at least it started out peaceful, as Betsy, working on a project in the lounge falls asleep and wakes up to find another woman sitting in the room with her.
Sharon Kaye Owen's, a famous needle crafter tells her she's there to try and reconcile with her husband. They had broken up after Sharon developed allergies which prevented her from participating in almost any thing.
Betsy is horrified when she later goes up to her room and finds the body of Sharon Kaye Owen's stretched across her bed. But it's not as bad, as when she gets Jill and the Lodge owner to go back with her, only to find the body has disappeared.
Was Betsy dreaming? Having another of her nightmares. Sharon Owens wasn't scheduled to even be at the lodge and she hadn't checked in and no one else had seen her.
But Betsy is sure of what she saw and decides to investigate, to prove not only that she had found a body and that Sharon was dead, but to uncover who the killer might be among the other guests.
There doesn't seem a shortage of people, including Sharon's family, her ex-husband Frank and their two kids, Liddy & Doogie. Most of the other needlecrafters at the stitch-in were excited to have Sharon Owens come, but they didn't like her personally.
With the help of Jill and local Sheriff Goodman, Betsy uncovers clues which lead to a solution to an almost perfect crime.
Highlights:
The friendship that has developed between Betsy and Jill. There is a big age difference, I assume Jill is in her thirty's and Betsy is 55, but they have a lot in common and Jill is just the type of friend everyone needs, especially when getting over a bad divorce and the murder of your only family. "Betsy's sister Margot, who left her Crewel World."
Godwin, being left in charge of the shop while she's gone and encounters a major disaster. This guy is one of the best characters in the book, he is always very funny.
The mystery is very good in this one. I didn't guess either the killer or the reason for the murder.
Lowlights:
I like the needlecraft information but in this books with so many experts gathered together, it was very confusing, because except for cross-stitching and knitting, a lot of the other needlecraft projects they were working on and talking about, I didn't have a clue as to what they were. This made some of the sections hard to follow.
Because this story took place far away from Excelsior, most of the regulars were missing and they usually add quite a bit to each story, so I missed them. .
Overall a very good read.
Pretty good read.......2004-03-13
Not one you can't lay down, but a pretty good story. I liked the characters and tho I'm not a x-stitcher it was fiber related. I'll probably read others by her. I wonder if she's going to write a spinning theme? Butchery at the Black Sheep Gathering?

Book Description
Do you know what your children are up to on MySpace? MySpace Unraveled: What it is and how to use it safely discusses the booming MySpace social-networking phenomenon and shows you exactly what you need know about MySpace and how to create a safe online experience for your kids. Written by Larry Magid and Anne Collier of Family Tech Talk, this short and extremely useful guide discusses what children are doing on social-networking Web sites and why they have become so popular. While other books on this subject discuss how to use social networking sites, this is the first guide to address the topics important to parents. With this book parents will learn:
- The basics of online social networking.
- How children are using MySpace.
- Positive and negative aspects of social networking Web sites.
- Internet safety for kids.
- How to communicate with children about what they are doing online.
- What parental controls are available and how to use them.
Customer Reviews:
Well balanced, excellent guide.......2007-01-27
This stands out as the best of the MySpace books I've read. It is logically organized and well presented, with color screenshots. The authors present a balanced approach to MySpace, without an alarmist attitude, but with very insightful observations and helpful suggestions, backed by cited research. Their approach is based in the reality of the Web and social networking, addressing the issues one needs to know while guiding the reader through setting up a MySpace account and using MySpace resources.
Sprinkled throughout the book are "Key Parenting Points" which speak directly to parental concerns about MySpace features. Their philosophy on dealing with those parental concerns can be summed up by their statement (on page 12), "There is no substitute for engaged parenting...But that engagement...is less about control than it is about communication." Hence the book is about informing for constructive parenting rather than controlling a teen's access to MySpace.
The writing style is informal and easy. The authors speak as parents and professionals who are actively involved with teens, parents, and the Web. Their experience shows. [...].
Social Networking 101 for Parents.......2006-11-09
Larry Magid and Anne Collier are industry experts on child safety online, and their collaboration here is outstanding. "MySpace Unraveled" explains the social networking phenomenon and the related safety issues in an easy to follow and practical way that is a must read for any parent who has children in today's day and age.
A parent's handbook.......2006-10-15
Larry Magid's book is the first excellent source for parents to figure out what their kids are doing on MySpace. It teaches parents how to get their own MySpace account, not to spy on their children, but to see what this world is all about. It has lots of good advice for parents although I wish the author would have spent less time on telling parents how to pimp their MySpace page and more on how to talk to their children about safety and particularly about online friendships. All in all, though, a good, valuable read.

If you believe that we can do better as individuals and as a nation, you are not alone. In conversations spanning almost 15 years in dozens of communities across America, Richard C. Harwood, president and founder of The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation, has found a nation struggling with growing consumerism, distorted realities, and false divisions that cut across cultural, political, and media landscapes. Harwood's latest book, Hope Unraveled: The People's Retreat and Our Way Back, chronicles these conversations, which show citizens' evolution from anger, to frustration, to ultimately a retreat from public life. A vital resource for all who work to create change and move the nation forward, Hope Unraveled reveals a reality that transcends the purported red-blue divide and lays out an alternate path for politics and public life for all Americans.

Book Description
As a twelve-year-old girl, Maria Housden’s vision of a happy future included everything that society expects girls to yearn for: a home, a husband, and, of course, children. Life had other plans.
Unraveled is Housden’s riveting and thoughtful story of how, after the death of her young daughter, she found the courage to break away from her role as a wife and stay-at-home mom and strike out on her own in search of a more fulfilling life. Leaving her three surviving children in the primary custody of her husband, Housden faced down the disbelief of friends and family and began a journey that would ultimately lead her not only to the truth about herself, but also to a deeper and more loving connection with her children.
Housden writes about the emotional reckoning that led to her decision and the ways in which she has become the best mother she can be while no longer living with her children full-time. With fierce honesty and the same gift for poignantly beautiful writing that she demonstrated in the bestselling Hannah’s Gift, Housden makes a valuable contribution to our collective conversation about mothering, marriage, and the assumptions we make about the way life is supposed to be. Unraveled is the remarkable story of one woman’s choice not to live every girl’s dream . . . and instead to find her own.
Customer Reviews:
Well written for the right woman.......2007-03-12
Probably very good for someone who has struggled with traditional roles for women. Definitely well written and sensitive.
Worth a read.......2007-03-08
I found this book and thought it sounded interesting. I couldn't imagine how this mother could give up custody of her three children and leave them behind. I knew I wanted to read this book and then I saw Maria Housden had written another book Hannah's Gift prior to this one. I thought I should read that first, so I did. Hannah's gift was like a wound...but an engrossing and well written wound.
When you read her story (stories) it makes sense that she gave her ex-husband custody of her children. I think she did what was in the best interest of her children. I think she was brave enough to make her decision based on what would be the best for everyone and not what everyone would think of her for it.
I think if you don't judge and just listen to her story you can see that she is a very good mother. And brave enough to tell her story.
Would you have made the same choices she did? My answer: NO, but read and ask yourself.......2006-09-20
Topic: Motherhood/Marriage/Divorce/Next Steps/Love Affair
Writing Quality: easy reading, one part made me cry (doesn't happen that often in books), interesting observations on her marriage and her own mental state, though sometimes "new-age" overabundant, some lyrical phrasing that was a pleasure to read, but parts of it left me in limbo trying to understand the outcomes.
Item of Interest: The author, Maria Housden, is married to another author, who I just happened to have purchased several of his books before ever hearing about her. He has written "Ten Poems to Change your Life" and other poetry compilations. The book, Unraveled, discusses in depth how they met and their relationship. This will undoubtedly be off-putting for some of you, others of you will see it from a different perspective.
Recommend It? Maybe -- ending left me uncertain about the author and her feelings about her choices. Recommendation based on your own biases, really. If you think that under no circumstances should a woman give up custody of her children for finding her own truths, then you most likely can skip this story. Those who are open to individual circumstances or simply are curious about this story will probably enjoy it.
The "daring" author?.......2006-07-28
She left her husband to go have casual sex with a yoga instructor? That's not daring. It's banal.
She also abandoned her children. That's not a "different kind of mother" that's quitting as a mother.
I hope that the author failed to find her true self -- otherwise she is truely an awful human being.
Courageous, stirs the Soul.......2006-06-01
The negative reviews on this page are disturbing, discouraging, unfairly judgemental. Unraveled is a work of real courage and truth, told in an unvarnished way, extremely personal and sensitive. I suppose it is a mark of a really good read (which this is) that it arouses strong feelings and stirs the soul. Maria Housden is willing to challenge controversial notions about women's lives, not just with ideas but with her choices. I admire her courage and highly recommend reading her very engaging story.

Book Description
Four rival anatomists and their race to answer the age-old question: Where does life come from?
Generation is the story of the exciting, largely forgotten decade during the seventeenth century when a group of young scientists—Jan Swammerdam, the son of a Protestant apothecary, Nils Stensen (also known as Steno), a Danish anatomist who first discovered the human tear duct, Reinier de Graaf, the attractive and brilliant son of a rich and successful Catholic architect, and Antoni Leeuwenhoek, a self-taught draper—dared to challenge thousands of years of orthodox thinking about where life comes from. By meticulous experimentation, dissection, and observation with the newly invented microscope, they showed that like breeds like, that all animals come from an egg, that there is no such thing as spontaneous generation, and that there are millions of tiny, wriggling “eels” in semen. However, their ultimate inability to fully understand the evidence that was in front of them led to a fatal mistake. As a result, the final leap in describing the process of reproduction—which would ultimately give birth to the science of genetics—took nearly two centuries for humanity to achieve. Including previously untranslated documents, Generation interweaves the personal stories of these scientists against a backdrop of the Dutch “Golden Age.” It is a riveting account of the audacious men who swept away old certainties and provided the foundation for much of our current understanding of the living world.
Customer Reviews:
Great book .......2006-10-27
I ejoyed this book immensely. The human struggle to understand reproduction and development surely represents one of our greatest intellectual endeavors, and Cobb's writing both captures the drama and makes it accessible to a lay audience. It is also an entertaining and astonishing story as we are led through ideas from spontaneous generation to preformation and pre-existence.
But Cobb does much more than that: he recreates the social world of these scientists, laying bare their rivalries, their hardships, and idiosyncracies. The book is a remarkably rich historical study, which opens a window on early Modern Europe.
There are also many philosophical asides about the nature of science and experiment, the role of metaphor, and the non cumulative nature of scientific progress. Cobb wears his vast erudition lightly.
Lastly, Cobb is a wonderful and witty writer.

Customer Reviews:
The five star rating is well deserved, with a caveat or two.......2004-11-15
Finally - a book that not only identifies urgent issues, but also outlines how to deal with them. The book is not a magical prescription to cure all of your ills. You will have to supply your own medicine (hard, diligent, consistent work), but it will increase your personal power and probably make your life happier.
We all have people problems, but no handbook regarding how to deal with them. Medea comes as close as anyone ever has to writing a handbook on the art of dealing with the unhappier moments in life involving interaction with other people (conflict). The book is always going back to how you (emphasize YOU) have to change your behavior in order to deal with people more effectively. The reader should be able to instantly recognize that he or she has had many of the experiences and feelings Medea describes in the book - within the past week!
Early in the book Andra lays groudwork describing "stages" of conflict. She lists four stages and only stage one is healthy (luckily we are not often at three or four!). Then, the reader is gently prompted to recognize that due to exogenous or endogenous factors (usually a combination of both), we react to people in a way that creates different stages of conflict. The book covers just enough to prevent boredom or overtechnical analysis, but also gives an ample background for the reader to not only understand interpersonal dynamics, but actually use the information to help resolve conflict and increase productivity in the work place, harmony at home, et cetera.
However, Andra unwittingly creates a conflict of her own with the reader by approaching the topic with a decidedly and undisguised feminist viewpoint. It detracts from the otherwise excellent social science she has done. Conflict is not a men versus women issue; differences between the sexes exist but neither is immune to any type of conflict expressed in any kind of way. It would have been easily possible and preferable not to give one-sided examples that paint women as victims of an oppressive male society. It may have been more constructive to give some opposite examples (a dominant woman screaming at her passive husband...) to grab the reader's attention and make the topic more poignant.
Altogether the book was well written, easy to understand, and uncovered a range of human behaviors that we all practice and probably do not recognize until a book such as 'Conflict Unraveled' comes along. From beginning to end Medea uncovers a range of human behaviors that include adrenaline levels, group dynamics (ladder/cluster type organizations), body language, and verbal communication (direct and indirect misunderstandings). I recommend finding space on your bookshelf for the book. econ
Observations, advice, strategies, tactics, & insights.......2004-06-08
Andra Medea is an instructor in conflict management at the University of Chicago and a nationally recognized expert on the subject. What is less well known is that Andra has a superb sense of humor. This is a distinctive asset in Conflict Unraveled: Fixing Problems At Work And In Families in which she distills her many years of experience and expertise in a volume specifically written and presented so as to be fully accessible to the non-specialist general reader. This wonderful compendium of observations, advice, strategies, tactics, insights, and illustrations is something of a complete and very highly recommended "how to" course on conflict resolution whether in the home or in the workplace.
Brilliant *and* practical.......2004-05-06
As a human resources professional and president of my local SHRM affiliate chapter, I've lately been very interested in learning about conflict management. As with any job dealing with people, conflict management can be a huge part of my position.
I was delighted and surprised by Andra Medea's book, Conflict Unraveled. Although I am a fairly fast reader, I was forced to slow down while reading this book because it constantly identified conflicts and problems I see daily at work in my co-workers, supervisors, and even at home with my own family---and happily, the solutions.
Though the book is solidly grounded on theory and successful tactics used by such luminaries as Bevel, Nash, and other civil rights activists, for me the best thing about the book is all the practical advice it offers. Several real-life examples offered in the book have really stuck with me---for instance, I can still vividly imagine, as described in one chapter, the author successfully facing down an angry, blustering man who had hit her car. If I don't remember anything else from the book, I will remember the tactic she used!
The book is also wonderfully full of common sense. You will be on both sides of the table, so to speak (the confronting one and/or the one being confronted) many times in your life, and Medea recognizes this. She offers tools to keep you from embarrassing yourself when you get angry (and not wanting to go back into the office the next day because of it), and techniques to help you deal with a person on the other side of your desk who is in a rage. Anger and conflict is natural, she reminds us; furthermore, it's chemical. Hard to deal with hormones or adrenaline, yes---but Medea offers practical tips which can really work if you have the discipline to use them---or at least have the tenacity to keep trying to use them!
Some gems:
1. "Flooding [adrenaline] shorts out most of the higher parts of the brain... the first step in managing conflict is to be braced for this chemical onslaught, because it will undermine every other useful skill you own."
2. "You may have found yourself in the surreal position of agreeing with someone who's yelling at you, saying everything she could want to hear, and still have her keep shouting as if you disagreed." (I have, many times.)
3. "Consider these skills when compared to negotiation. Accusation, manipulation and whining are all ways to score points or get things without offering anything worthwhile in return."
4. "The solution for the good guys at level three [blind behavior/anger] is exactly the same as for bad guys: you must become aware of your own behavior. ...Your own behavior can get you out of this. No one can do it for you."
5. "Some people will never give up the fight. Isolate them."
6. "Baron von Clausewitz, the military theorist, realized that it wasn't enough to focus on an opponent's weakness. The opponent could always improve a weakness, protect it or turn it into a strength. Instead, von Clausewitz suggested to focus on their strengths, because an opponent could never abandon a strength. The strength was an essential part of who they were."
Medea also breaks conflict down into different categories, in which some tactics work, and some do not. Primate signals (an interesting chapter!), for instance, work well in all types of conflict, from problem-solving to the most severe (tyranny/predation).
She also makes some interesting distinctions in types of workplaces and their leaders, and there's a long discussion on direct communication versus indirect communication that very much held my interest. I'm a direct communicator, as are most of my co-workers, but we have one superior who is indirect. That alone has led to a great deal of conflict. Thanks to the book, I'm ready to try out some new communication techniques that may work more successfully than what I have been trying.
It is very rare that I rate any book five stars. (At this point, I have only given one other book five stars.) This one deserves all five of those stars. Definitely worth the money.
Understand, Manage and Succeed in Contentious Situations.......2004-05-06
This book describes and diagnoses the components of conflict so that you can clearly understand it. Then the author gives clear, sound, and comprehensive advice for dealing with the situation, your own emotional and physical responses, and your opponent, in order to achieve the best possible resolution.
I strongly recommend this book to everyone who has any interest in dealing with and resolving conflicts. It will be exceptionally useful for managers, attorneys, police officers, and members of dysfunctional families.
I have been a manager for years. Dealing with conflict productively has been the single greatest challenge facing me, or the managers I have coached. I wish this book had been written at the very beginning of my career. I can think of so many situations I would have handled better. Get it. You'll agree.

"It's remarkable how Medea has captured the essential nature of conflict, whether on the job or at home, and prescribed the tools with which to handle conflict effectively. Conflict Unraveled could be subtitled "Everything you ever wanted to
know about your own reactions to your child and his reactions in response." In simple, clear language, Medea describes how conflict between parent and child begins, accelerates and gets out of control and, most important, how to deal with
conflict before it escalates. Whether you are the parent of a teenager or a toddler, this is a book to read again and again."

Oh Pleazzzzzzeeeee...........2003-02-22
It was long... overly detailed... and almost a "how-to" guide for someone that would like to be in a Jackie Collins story. It was disappointing, and out of date.... the clothes and pictures are a time-warp back to the 80's!!!
Great book. Explains everything. Easy as A-B-C........1999-07-27
I'm a professional photographer wanting to know more about taking models photos for their portfolio. The modeling biz has always been kind of baffling to me but this book opens it all up for me. It even has great tips on how to shoot better shots of the models! Several aspiring model friends of mine recommended it to me!

Very informative book about how-to get our kids into professional modeling. Great content and lots of photos. The advice is stuff you can actually use!

Book Description
In Healing a Life Unraveled, Lisa Dunster Moeller takes a bold approach in healing a broken spirit. The author offers a refreshing, holistic approach to tackling personal tragedy by providing a template to keeping a journal. Therapeutic in its own right, this journal is intended to be "progressive," in that once it is completed it is meant to be passed on to others going through the same type of tragedy. Linked by a common thread, each recipient will benefit from their own journaling as well as find comfort in being able to read what others had to say of their shared struggles.

Healing A Life Unraveled
What a wonderful book. In fact I liked it so much that I bought a second one to share with friends and relatives. It truly is a gift that keeps giving. Not only have I begun to journal my thoughts and feelings about a recent loss but, as I approach my next birthday, I find that I am visiting parts of my past long since left unvisited.
The comfort that I found from the words that Ms. Moeller wrote stays with me as I begin my new life.
