Too Short.......2007-09-29
Well, as usual, this book was written masterfully, and I would expect nothing less from the Erin Hunters. The artistry was amazing, but it was just too short. I finished it in under half an hour, which is just not like any of the other books. All in al, though, this book was pretty good.
comic book style .......2007-09-26
My two boys (ages 11 and 8) LOVE the Warriors series. However, this particular book is written in comic book style and they read it in less than an hour. They liked it, but it wasn't what we expected.
Warriors Manga?.......2007-08-23
I tell you, this was interesting. It was very good though. Graystripe was one of my favorite characters, and I was so disappointed when he left. I'm glad they're addressing that. I'm not sure about the manga, which makes the cats look odd. But I guess since I'm not much of a artist myself I can't say anything. This isn't a must-read, but it's quick, easy, and fast-paced.
The Lost Warrior: Graystripe In Twolegplace .......2007-08-01
As anyone who's read Dawn knows, Graystripe was captured by Twolegs when rescuing cats from their traps. This manga follows his adventure in Twolegplace and his desperate attempts to escape...and what happens when he meets Millie, a kittypet in the same Twolegplace.
The Lost Warrior is good...just not spectacular. They could have made the story a lot longer and made a better, more detailed manga.
Now for the storyline. It's good. But... a little boring. And short. Graystripe wants to get out of Twolegplace but seems to have given up hope. He's seemingly lost all his warrior instincts, and after (spoilers begin here) losing a fight with a kittypet, Graystripe begins to believe he'll never get out of there.
Then he meets Millie, another kittypet. Fascinated by the forest life, she wants to be taught how to fight and hunt, and Graystripe meets her demands. Slowly, his warrior instincts begin to return, though Graystripe still has little hope. Eventually Silverstream convinces Graystripe to look for the Clans, and he goes, though he meets obstacles along the way. (spoilers end here)
So it's good. But not totally awesome, and the plot could have been expanded a lot more. I HAVE flipped through it again and still enjoyed it, but don't expect the most amazing book in the world...it pales much in comparison to the regular Warriors.
So this book is worth buying, just don't walk into the bookstore expecting the best manga there is to read. If you do, you may be a bit disappointed.
bought this for a niece..........2007-07-25
I bought this for a niece ( 9yrs ) and she loved it, of course she had already read every other book in this series and loved all of those as well.

Seduced Me!.......2007-10-05
The third book in the Parallel Series, Parallel Seduction begins where the second book Parallel Heat ended. Hope Harper, an FBI linguist and Scott Dillon, 2nd in command to the King, Jared Bennett, met in book two and Hope jumped onto a transport to be with Scott. Hope and Scott share dreams of a future life together including a daughter. Enter Jake Tierney, a man from the future. He has come to try to stop the destruction of his planet, Refaria and Earth. Jake, too, shares a past with Hope. She is drawn to both men. Whom will she choose?
More people should be reading this series. It has wonderful stories, time travel, and heart stopping romance. These books are unique in the paranormal romance genre.
The best Midnight Warriors book to date!.......2007-09-04
Deidre Knight just keeps getting better with her twisty plots and intense relationships. This book is a don't miss!
Parallel Seduction .......2007-08-13
Jake Tierny is a soldier fighting to save the world. His mission is to follow a man named Marco McKinley back in time to prevent him from carrying out a plan that will devastate the human race.
Hope Harper is an FBI linguist and one of the very few humans on a military base populated by Refarian's. Hope often dreams of Scott Dillon, a lieutenant in the Refarian army. Her dreams are sexual and romantic. Although she suffers from degenerative retinopathy which makes seeing very difficult, in her dreams Hope sees Scott very clearly. During a dream one night, Jakob Tierny appears and Scott tells her to follow him when he comes for her.
Hope and Scott seem destined to be together but their future as well as the future of the world is precarious at best.
Parallel Seduction's storyline is quite ingenious. The characters are interesting and the sex is hot and romantic as well. I think reading the previous Parallel is a must though to make the story more engaging

Pure MAGIC!!! A Definite "MUST READ" For ALL!.......2007-05-28
I've been a fan of Ms. Knight's books since the first moment I read her fascinating books! Not many authors can juggle romance, time travel, aliens, suspense, and humor...but let me assure you that Deidre Knight does and does it wonderfully! Please, if you wish to read a compelling and thouroughly entertaining series of books, then definitely grab the Parallel series today!
Seduced by Parallel Seduction.......2007-05-27
As a follower of Deidre Knights Midnight Warrior series, this is currently my personal favorite. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment of the series.
Deidre Knight has created strong, compelling characters that kept me turning the pages. Her characterization is amazing. As a person dealing with disabilities Ms. Knight has written the heroine, Hope Harper with strength, dignity and humor.
The heroes are truly heroic. A man you'd love to take to bed and be proud to have stand by your side. It doesnt' get any better than that.
Parallel Seduction touched my heart and has special place on my keeper shelf.
I highly recommend this book to readers of science fiction romance. Come and let Deidre Knight seduce you with her Midnight Warriors.

Customer Reviews:
Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-04
A kitchen sink low-level superhero and villain brawl. Silverman, Hammerhead, Kingpin, Spider-Man, Elektra, Iron Fist, Shang-Chi and Moon Knight, plus the Enforcers.
Much bashage and breakage and defenestration. Throw in the Black Cat and her cradle snatching ways, and a dirty cop for good measure.
A fair bit of fun, in other words.
mj who? kitty pryde rules..........2007-02-02
ultimate spider-man by bendis and bagley is one of the best series out there. not as much action and non-stop bad guy fighting, but a good mix of that and a lot of peter parker being a teenager with problems (girls, bullies, being grounded, etc.) along with his spidey life.
the series is great great great. only a few minor things that could be better:
1. i don't like how nick fury comes in and tells spider-man he's going to work his whole life for him and shield. the idea of peter being...trapped in a web? haha...well it isn't too cool. superheroes need to fight the good fight because they want to, not because shield will go and take away their superpowers (as fury has threatened) if they don't comply.
2. bendis needs to cut down on the tuchas talk. seriously if parker grew up in nyc today he'd more likely speak spanglish than yanglish.
3. geldoff.
One of the better Ultimate Spider-Man TPBs.......2006-07-09
This collects issues #79-85 of the long-running Bendis/Bagley series and includes appearances from Moon Knight, Elektra and the Black Cat. With Kingpin absent, Hammerhead hopes to fill the void left in the city's organized crime structure, forcing villians to choose sides and heroes to evaluate which is the lesser of two evils.
Another great volume!.......2006-06-16
Having read the whole series up until this point, I have to say that I really enjoyed this chapter. The writing is spot on for the teen-angst pain of a reluctant superhero. The art is crisp, clean and fun. If you've enjoyed the earlier books, this continues the fun.
Another good read, although not the best of the series.......2006-04-18
This seven-issue story arc (Ultimate Spidey 79-85) tracks the carnage that ensues when The Kingpin's crime cartel comes up for grabs... The prime contender for the throne is the super-gangster Hammerhead, who in his "Ultimate" incarnation is actually one scary dude, ruthlessly violent and coldly calculating, one of the more convincing gang bosses in comicbook history. Hammerhead's gnarly new persona almost -- but not entirely -- makes up for the flat, flimsy characterizations of '70s martial arts heros Shang Chi and Iron Fist, who also appear here, along with Moon Knight, Black Cat and Elektra. It's a major slugfest, with lots of slicing and dicing at the end, a consistently entertaining read, though not quite up to the high standards set by Brian Michael Bendis earlier in the series. If you just want to read a good, fun superhero story, this volume does the job.
Book Description
The second book in a thrilling new trilogy...
In Parallel Attraction, Deidre Knight created an unforgettable alternate world of danger, seduction and the mysteries of time. Here she returns to that world as alien warrior Marco McKinley is enlisted to personally protect beautiful human solider Thea Haven. Now, as two sworn enemies are pitted against each other, their lives will be changed forever by the unpredictable perils of love, betrayal, vengeance and passion.
Customer Reviews:
Even better than the first book!.......2007-05-23
This book grabbed me right away. It picked up right where the first book left off and included more of the love story of Jared and Kelsey from Parallel Attraction. Our main characters for this book were Marco McKinley, protector of the king, who was dark and moody. Thea Haven, warrior and cousin to the king, was strong but vulnerable. This book features their love story. We even have an introduction of the main characters for the next book in the series, Parallel Seduction, with Hope and Scott. This is a wonderful new series, fresh, inventive and extremely entertaining.
Second Parallel installment raises the heat and reader's delight.......2007-04-25
As the second book in the Parallel or Midnight warrior Series, Parallel Heat takes all the elements that endeared readers to the first book and added more suspense and more romance. As a cross between romance and science fiction, this paranormal romance will delight an audience beyond either separate genre.
Thea Haven, cousin to the exiled king Jared Bennett, has been devastated by his choice of queen in the human Kelsey Wells. After all, since she was a young child, she was raised to take her role as Jared's wife. When Thea encounters Marco McKinley who challenges her earlier presumed destiny. Both feel an attraction they can barely control. As a Madjin, a sworn protector of the royal family, Marco feels duty requires him to uphold his sworn oaths and loyalty, especially when in a past and parallel universe, he betrayed all. Can he change the past and protect the Refarian race and the planet Earth they protect? Unfortunately, the humans at Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming cannot tell the difference between the Refarians and the Antousians. To them, an alien is an alien. In trying to remedy one past betrayal, have deeper complications been initiated and how will this parallel world affect the fate of Earth which stands on the brink of destruction?
Whereas the first Midnight Warrior novel Parallel Attraction focused on the romance between Jared and Kelsey, Parallel Heat steps up the level of suspense and action without sacrificing the complex romance between Thea and Marco. Readers will find the continuing relationship between Jared and Kelsey integrated into the main thread instead of shoved off to the side or as only minor details as in so many other trilogies or series. When I read the first book, I wondered how any other book could possibly surpass the intensity and beauty of the first --- this book matches the first and also adds more suspense through the developing ominous betrayal on the horizon!
The plot is intricate and yet it is the complexity that delights the reader. The possibility of parallel times and universes provokes the imagination, especially in Deidre Knight's presentation of the concept. The primary characters are seen through a variety of perspectives. The stories of the secondary characters are developed with depth and heighten the ever-increasing suspense. The romance has elements of tragedy looming on the edges, but as romance discovered in the midst of a great war, it has an immediacy and depth that caused me to gasp at its beauty and danger.
If you loved the first book, Parallel Attraction and are considering the purchase of this book, I would recommend buying this and Parallel Seduction at the same time. The ending of the second book is so riveting that you won't want to wait for delivery of the third in the series.
Blazing.......2007-04-01
Deidra is spoiling her loyal fans with her books of Midnight Warriors, her characters are strong and you really fall into the stories quickly, you'll soon be like the resst of us begging her for more.
PARALLEL HEAT'S ON FIRE!.......2007-03-02
Have you ever spent time at the bookstore eyeing up all the titles and not finding one that grabs you? Tapping your chin, thinking, you'd love to find a new author you could latch onto who's writing a series. Books you could look forward to - as if they were your next heartbeat.
THE MIDNIGHT WARRIORS SERIES has done that for me. The first book I purchased was the second in the series, PARALLEL HEAT. As soon as I began reading the pages, Marco McKinley and Thea's precarious love story and suspenseful plot held me spellbound. The alien Refarian base in the Grand Tetons and mitres chamber in the outreaches of Yellowstone whirled me out of my life and left me looking past the stars, searching and wondering what was going on out there and here on earth.
Marco McKinley, a shunned Royal Guardian, is a tortured alpha soul and Thea Haven - an intuitive and cousin to Refarian King Jared - feels she's in no man's land when her prophesized marriage to King Jared doesn't happen.
Earth thinks the Refarians are their enemies and wants to destroy them. Thea and Marco end up fighting together to protect their King and human Queen, bringing their love to an explosive climax - forbidden because she's a D'Ashani and he's a Madjin but whirling together, nonetheless.
Deidre Knight has me making a beeline to the shelf now. :) She's also awakened me to higher things. This is an author who does her research and makes the pages come alive.
Parallel Heat Delivers!.......2007-02-17
Parallel Heat offers unforgettable characters of strength and passion.
Marco McKinley is a warrior and protector, yet he also possess special gifts that are two-edged. His duty and his intense feeings for the beautiful Thea Haven push him to the edge.
Thea Haven feels Marco's powerful presence and neither can stop the passion that explodes between them.
The plot and the wonderful characters kept me turning the pages.
If you enjoy paranormal romance, Parallel Heat of the Midnight Warrior series will leave you wanting more.
Parallel Seduction is already on my to be bought list. Deidre Knight is a rising star of paranormal romance. Read her series and find out why.

Parallel Attraction was a big stinker.......2007-08-03
I'm glad I got this book from the library and didn't spend any money buying it, because this book was awfull, I can't beleive anyone really liked it. I'm a huge fan of sci-fi & paranormal romance books, but this story sucked, I did'nt like any of the people in the book and the romance was lame.
Stellar series.......2007-04-01
Even if you've never read o series before or never plan to, you must read this one because Deidra has really wrote romance for the future. I predict many awards going her way.
Exquisite debut paranormal romance!.......2007-03-24
Parallel Attraction captures all the great themes of battle, love and betrayal, the possible extinction of a great race with original, intriguing variations. The Wyoming setting and references to Jackson, Laramie and Yellowstone suffused with alien worlds and technology entice the imagination. Even though there are only a few scenes where the romance is sexually explicit, Knight creates a wild, hot passion that far surpasses earthly romance. Her writing style itself romances the reader by slowly and seductively adding pleasure upon pleasure. Just when the reader thinks they have reached the height of reading pleasure, she gives more... humor, a perfect unexpected twist that opens the heart and imagination, a unique shift, and an addition to the familiar paradigms of the great literary classics.... Although alien and different, the great Refarian king recalls to the reader the legend of great earthly king Arthur. A stunning debut novel! An exquisite paranormal romance!
Although technically not an Arthurian romance, Arthur fans will delight in the subtle hints and undertones in this novel. Deidre Knight's Parallel Attraction will capture the heart and soul of anyone whose imagination has ever paused at the shores of Avalon and wondered what could have happened to the greatest king and queen in history.
Rating: On a scale of 1-5, as fan of Arthurian romance, I would rate this book as a 7. This is one of those rare books where, instead of racing through the book, I slowed my reading pace way down. I was intoxicated by the very language and imagery.
Very enjoyable!.......2007-03-01
Kelsey Wells, geologist, meets Jared Bennett, the Refarian alien king in Yellowstone when they are both teenagers. They spend time together on earth before Jared's mentor, who wipes the memory of their meeting from their minds, takes him back. Years later they meet again and thus ensues a romance and adventure.
I thought this science fiction romance had a beautiful love story. We actually see more of Jared's character as a great deal of the book is from his viewpoint. I agree with one of the reviewers that this book does not really take off until the middle and once it does, it throws a completely new spin on the action. It took me quite by surprise after the first of the book deals mainly with their growing relationship. There were some very touching scenes that made me cry. The love scenes were beautiful. I absolutely enjoyed this book and will definitely read the others in this new Novel of Midnight Warriors series.
Parallel Attraction: Wonderful Read.......2007-02-17
Parallel Attraction's unique plot and three dimensional characters made this book stand out and capture my attention.
This book has everything I love about paranormal romance: a sexy alien hero, a strong heroine worthy of him, suspense, romance and out-of-this-world danger and mayhem.
Jared Bennett is a king without a country, a warrior, a freedom fighter.
He fights against a deadly enemy for control of a powerful weapon. He refuses to tell Kelsey all that is occurring to protect her.
Kelsey Wells falls in love with the sexy alien and her entire world changes. By not telling Kelsey all, Jared has placed her in danger.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the books in the Midnight Warrior series. A powerful, wonderful read.

A great writer.......2007-01-16
A bit out there, I enjoy fantasy more then SF and the basis of this series is a bit difficult for me to believe, but the writer is so good, that I have read the entire series and found I could not put any of these books down... A Great Read..!
Another Spencer winner.......2006-03-07
The latest in the Ikiah Oregon series maintains the standards of the series; lots of action, mystery, humor, blood and a little sex on the side. Now we find the DEA entering the action. Nice character development with the addition of Atticus and Ru, a real charmer.
New Characters!.......2005-02-28
Spencer introduces Atticus Steele and friends in this latest novel following the trials and tribulations of Ukiah Oregon.
Atticus and his partner discover Ukiah dead in a trunk of a car surrounded by mice. Obviously something they have seen before. Apparently, Atticus had more than his share of run-ins with death and mice. Not to mentioned this "kid" looked exactly like him. So, of course they decide to save him.
I like the fact Spencer decides to add a new character and for much of the book, the story is told from Atticus' view point. The reader also dicovers Atticus' love interest is different from Ukiah, also. Which continues the homosexual theme that began with Ukiah's moms. It also gives the Dog Warriors reason to leave another "breeder" alone. The action is nonstop and the reader can't help but feel for these characters. I really enjoyed all the books from this series.
The reason I chose to give it four stars instead of the usual five is that I felt Spencer should have explained situations more fully. For example, in this novel she shows the cult as trying to save mankind. Yet, they know by know that the sex drug is lethal to humans (many of their own have died from it) and does absolutely nothing to the "demons." Still they continue to manufactor it and sell it the the people. This completely goes against their agenda. There were several other things I found that were a contradiction to the character's or group belief.
Still, if you can overlook these things, I'm sure you will enjoy this novel.
Wen Spencer just keeps getting better...........2004-11-19
Three "Ukiah Oregon" books ago, Wen Spencer was a new novelist with an engaging character and some new novelist faux pas under her belt. I still read "Alien Taste" in one sitting and went out and got the next two books. "Bitter Water" is the toughest read of the group, but every one of them is enjoyable and pulls you through the story.
The first thing I will say about Book Four is you don't need the first three books to read and understand it. But, I believe you will be so engaged by Ukiah Oregon's story that you will WANT them.
In this novel, Ukiah Oregon discovers he has a big brother. While the feeling of not being the only one is good, neither brother can trust the other.
Strongly recommend you read this book when you have several hours to devote to it. You will not want to put it down.
A wild ride.......2004-11-16
Atticus Steele and his friends always knew he was strange with the abillity to heal from things that kill other people but finding a man who apart from looking younger could be his twin was a shock. The story he is told when the man who is his brother heals is more of one and what he can find out about him makes him wonder weather to trust him at all.
The story only gets faster and more complex after that a good read. I read it in one day.

Bestselling author Nicole Jordan weaves a breathtakingly sensuous story of love and passion between the valiant Ariane of Claredon and the fierce knight who loses his heart to her. . . .
For five turbulent years Ariane has dutifully prepared herself for marriage to King Henry’s most trusted vassal, the legendary Norman knight Ranulf de Vernay. But cruel circumstance has branded Ariane’s father a traitor to the crown. And now Ranulf is returning to Claredon, not as a bridegroom . . . but as a conqueror.
Survivor of a hellish youth, Ranulf knows well the treacheries of noblewomen–and mistrusts the regal, defiant beauty to whom he was once betrothed. But while he shields his wounded heart with impenetrable armor, she sears his soul with sensuous fire. Ranulf may have vowed to claim her lands and her body as his prize, but ultimately it is the mighty warrior who must surrender to Ariane’s proud, determined passion–and her remarkable healing love.

Customer Reviews:
Satisfying ending makes up for the rest.......2007-04-24
I have to say I find Nicole Jordan's style interesting, to say the least. Jordan often times shifts perspective in the middle of a page, between Ranulf and Ariane, first describing what Ariane was thinking in one paragraph and then all of a sudden describing what Ranulf was thinking the very next paragraph.
Overall, I enjoyed the novel, even though Ranulf's treatment of Ariane often times bordered on cruelty. I also thought that Ranulf's reasons for his harshness towards Ariane weren't justified. What his cold demeanor served, however, was to strengthen Ariane's character tenfold. Predictably, Ariane is a bit stubborn and rebellious, but unpredictably, she's very strong to endure and accede to Ranulf's very rigid treatment without complaint.
I don't find myself often rooting so much for the heroine in romance novels as much as I rooted for Ariane. Mainly because I know romance-novel heroines are usually very stubborn and uncompromising in their own way to get the guy completely on their terms, but I absolutely loved Ariane. I found myself wanting to see Ariane make Ranulf suffer. And she finally does make him suffer in the end a bit.
The novel ends very satisfactorily and Ariane's enormous heart and strength in the face of trying circumstances rule supreme. The book belongs to Ariane, and deservedly so.
Boring..........2007-03-24
The repetition in this book is incredible. The same sentences are repeated over and over and over.... Why? We never know. I did not like the characters at all. Their relationship had no depth whatsoever, and I have no clue why she decided that she loves him. I agree with another reviewer who suggested to read the first few pages and then just start skipping. That's the only way I could even finish it.
Repetition, Repetition and more Repetition .......2007-02-05
This book seemed so promising, I've read a little over half of this book and it's killing me to finish the rest. This book is wearing me OUT with pages of repetition and thinking to themselves, gracious enough already. I high do not suggest this book.
Disapointed.......2006-08-16
Weak characters with cliches not only in the plot but also the dialogue. I gave up a quater way thru.... Most disapointing! You have done better Ms Jordan!
A Tedious Journey. .......2005-11-27
In June 2005, Ballantine Books reissued THE WARRIOR by Nicole Jordan. A book originally published, by Avon Books, in March of 1995. Was the reissue a good idea? Well, I bought it! Was I happy? Hmm . . . well when I turned the last page, I was certainly elated!
Lord Ranulf, the Black Dragon of Vernay, entered a betrothal pact with Ariane of Claredon for one reason - political gain. His shrewd maneuver would provide land, heirs, and an alliance with a powerful family. He intended to build a dynasty to rival any lord in the land; he planned to become more powerful than his despised father. It took Ranulf de Vernay five years to return to Ariane, five years to make her his wife. Remarkably, he came back, but not as a husband, he came back as a conqueror . . .
For five long years, the engaged Ariane wanted to be a good wife; she wanted to give her husband solace; she wanted to give him peace; she wanted to give him her heart. However, now she encountered a skeptical man, a man wary of giving his trust and love. Ominously, Ranulf's own adulterous mother had condemned him to a life of torment. Her treacherous infidelity had forced Ranulf to fight for his birthright, his identity, his very existence. Presently, he considers all women dishonest, untrustworthy, and deceitful. Distrust has buried Ranulf de Vernay's heart, buried it beneath rage and hatred.
THE WARRIOR'S storyline certainly sounds promising. It certainly sounds enticing. So how was it? In one word - repetitious! Constantly, for 493 pages, the unchanging conflict is on. Should he trust her? Maybe not! Should he have faith in her? Maybe not! Should he marry her? Maybe not! Can I finish this book? Maybe not!

Book Description
This volume brings together for the first time the known writings of the pioneering Native American religious and political leader, intellectual, and author, Samson Occom (Mohegan; 1723-1792). The largest surviving archive of American Indian writing before Charles Eastman (Santee Sioux; 1858-1939), Occom's writings offer unparalleled views into a Native American intellectual and cultural universe in the era of colonialization and the early United States. His letters, sermons, journals, prose, petitions, and hymns--many of them never before published--document the emergence of pantribal political consciousness among the Native peoples of New England as well as Native efforts to adapt Christianity as a tool of decolonialization. Presenting previously unpublished and newly recovered writings, this collection more than doubles available Native American writing from before 1800.

Book Description
Richard Marcinko first exploded out of the clandestine world of special forces/unconventional warfare with his #1 New York Times bestselling autobiography Rogue Warrior. Now, he calls upon the warriors who served by his side to tell their own stories. The Real Team tells it like it is: how highly motivated individuals come to the Teams, how they train, and how they fight in the four corners of the globe.
From the sea, from the air, or from the land -- SEAL Teams attack the enemy from any direction, any time, with weapons ranging from a K-bar knife to an AK-47. Here, for the first time the real life models for such characters as Indian Jew, Duck foot Dewey, and Prince Valiant recount their journeys from the civilian world to BUD/S training, their first experiences under fire, and how they turned from newbies to seasoned veterans, from loyal U.S. servicemen to Rogue Warriors whose only rule was that the Warrior does not give up. Ever.
The Real Team also reveals the Rogue Warrior's secrets for team selection and team maintenance. From setting up an ambush to making a HAHO -- high altitude, high opening -- parachute jump, from the Philippines to Desert Storm, the stories in the audiobook are about real men and real missions, and about the SEAL mentality of teamwork, training, loyalty, and never-say-die aggression. For it is the spirit of the real Teams that shaped these extraordinary individuals and positioned them for success -- in every battlefield and every endeavor they would face in life.
Customer Reviews:
The real guys are as interesting as the fictional ones.......2007-01-03
After reading most of the Rogue Warrior books, you get the feeling that you know the supporting cast pretty well. Getting the backstory on the real men on whom the characters are based is really special. Typical Marchinko -- blunt and plainspoken.
Marcinko giving some of his men their due........2003-01-10
Great stories from a group of skilled and dedicated soldiers told in the only way they know how, with honesty, brutality and in some cases a sense of humor. This is a fast read that kept me enthralled because of the pace of the book. The stories are long enough to give you some detail and the situations and short enough that there are no lapses of boredom. It is a great book for non-fiction action of some of great warriors who really loved what they were doing.
Needed more ' real life' stories in The Real Team.......2002-12-24
I've read 5 of Marchinkos books over the last 18 months and he writes great stuff. The stories are well described and each reads like an spec. ops. mission that was only recently de-classified.
The guys he works with all have unique personalities and backgrounds but plenty of motivation. I bought this book to learn a bit more about who joins the team...and (more importantly) to hear them describe their best/worst missions. Each guy must have a mission that they look back upon?? Beyond just their upbringing, I was hoping to read more of their 'lives on the edge'. I got only a little of that.
If you have friend or family looking at the military, this is certainly the book for them.
Only for fans.......2002-06-20
I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who's not already a fan of the Rogue Warrior books. It's basically a collection of essays by friends of Marcinko (most of whom have been used as characters in his novels) about their background, including combat experiences, etcetera.
This is also the first Marcinko book I've read that seemed to be clearly aimed, at least in part, at the audience for his two management and leadership books. That is business people who want to be hardcore. To this end, all the essays touch on the individual's view on teamwork and what makes a good leader, etc.
All in all, interesting for fans of Marcinko's books; useful for people who want to understand how a team should or can work.
Not your typical Rogue book.......2002-05-09
The Real Team looks at some of the people Dick Marcinko has worked with over the years and lets you see the real person, not the version which ends up in the fictional "Rogue Warrior" series. This book is a good comapnion not only to the "Rogue" series, but it also works well with the other two non-fiction books Mr. Marcinko has written. If you want a lot of action, this probably isn't the book you want. If you want some background and history, then get this one to go next to all your other Rogue books.
