If there ever was a pair of docs who can make the small intestine seem truly intriguing, here they are. Dr. Mehmet Oz is an alternative-medicine maverick and a cardiologist known to implement acupuncture during open-heart surgery. Dr. Michael Roizen developed the RealAge concept of calculating one's biological, as opposed to chronological, age. Here they've whipped up a witty guide to the workings of the entire body, appropriate not just for those who can't tell their pancreas from their pituitary. Even Cheers' Cliff Claven types who think they know it all will likely be humbled by the 50-question "body-quotient" quiz that starts off the book.
With much sassy humor (they describe the adrenals as similar in shape to Mr. Potato Head's hat), they give a guided tour of the body's anatomy and major systems (hormonal, nervous, digestive, sensory, etc.) including plenty of fascinating trivia along the way. How often should you get your thyroid level checked? How much gas does the average person produce in a day? And, most important, how many times a year do most people have sex?? Drs. Oz and Roizen know. They also reveal plenty of bizarre (and potentially life-saving) facts such as this: If your earlobe has a prominent vertical wrinkle, it's likely that your arteries are aging faster than they ought to be. If only 8th-grade health class had been this fun.
The docs' main goal in presenting all this info is twofold: first, it's your body, so shouldn't you finally learn how it works? And, second, they want to help teach ways of preserving the body's health and youthfulness. To that end, they've included an "Owner's Manual Diet," a 10-day menu plan designed not for weight loss, but to make you feel "years younger." Its simple recipes are each meant to benefit a certain body system, such as Tomato Bruschetta, packed with the antioxidant lycopene, which has been proven to boost immunity. --Erica Jorgensen
Book Description
Between your full-length mirror and high-school biology class, you probably think you know a lot about the human body. While it's true that we live in an age when we're as obsessed with our bodies as we are with celebrity hairstyles, the reality is that most of us know very little about what chugs, churns, and thumps throughout this miraculous, scientific, and artistic system of anatomy. Yes, you've owned your skin-covered shell for decades, but you probably know more about your cell-phone plan than you do about your own body. When it comes to your longevity and quality of life, understanding your internal systems gives you the power, authority, and ability to live a healthier, younger, and better life.
You: The Owner's Manual challenges your preconceived notions about how the human body works and ages, then takes you on a tour through all of the highways, back roads, and landmarks inside of you. After taking a quiz that tests your body of knowledge, you'll learn about all of your blood-pumping, food-digesting, and keys-remembering systems and organs.
Just as important, you'll get the facts and advice you need to keep your body running long and strong. You'll find out how diseases start and how they affect your body -- as well as advice on how to prevent and beat conditions that threaten your quality of life. Complete with exercise tips, nutritional guidelines, simple lifestyle changes, and alternative approaches, You: The Owner's Manual gives you an easy, comprehensive, and life-changing how-to plan for fending off the gremlins of aging. To top it off, you'll also get the great-tasting and calorie-saving Owner's Manual Diet -- a thirty-recipe eating plan that's designed with only one goal in mind: to help you live a younger life.
Welcome to your body. Why don't you come on in and take a look around?

You: The Owner's Manual.......2007-10-06
This book is very informative. It takes the human body and breaks it down so anyone can understand it. I have learned a great deal about my body and the abuse I do to it. Would recommend it to anyone and everyone. Oh, and I love the humor too!
Heath for Dummies.......2007-10-06
Health for dummies. Fun and quick reading. But, before you buy the book. Look through the 50 question quiz. If you are interested in the questions and were not able to answer them, then go ahead and buy.
Look at the menus at the back of the book. If you are not interested in changing your diet, you might look elsewhere.
Look at Page 127-139 for an excercise plan: Very basic
Page 173 simplistic smoking cessation plan

Tried to be a little too funny.......2007-10-01
I liked this book, but ended up skipping over a lot of the parts that were supposed to be funny. I would have liked the pictures to be labeled correctly, not with funny made up names for body parts.
You: The Owner's Manual.......2007-09-29
Great stuff, easy read. Very informative. I read it and then my Mom read it.
Very "YOUseful".......2007-09-28
In short, just a very informative book that is successful in achieving several goals. For one, it educates the reader in the inner workings of the human body. It does this quite entertainingly through trivia, facts, and interesting pictures (for instance the authors use a lot of elves). Additionally, the book also gives you many helpful tips on self-care and how to keep your body running smoother. While there is a lot information, I really would like to have seen a reference section at the end of the book. All in all though, it's a pretty informative and amusing read that should enhance the well-being of many. Also recommend Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff for readers who might need more specific info on shoulder pain and rotator cuff self-care.

The book arrived in the condition expected and also earlier than the website estimate. Amazon is one of the best places to shop.
Great intro to medical terms .......2007-09-08
I am working toward a Medical Coding certificate/degree, and this is the book we use in my Medical Terminology class. This book is well laid out, there are plenty of illustrations, it even comes with flash cards and an interactive computer cd to help you study. It makes it easy for a beginner to grasp the basic concepts of anatomy, diseases, procedures, and their commonly used abbreviations.
And this book is a bargain from Amazon. My school sells it for over $100.
Excellent.......2006-11-23
I am just about finished with my first semester studying medical transcription at a Technical college. This book was required for one of my classes. I love this book. I love the way it is laid out and I especially like the quizzes at the end of each chapter. I found this book to be extremely easy to use and it is written in a way that is clear and easy to understand. I would definitely recommend this book.

Awesome!.......2007-10-10
This book is a consolidation of all the food evaluations I have read in the past. I had been looking for something like this for awhile. Needless to say, it opened my eyes as to what food I should be eating. Also, it helped me identify what foods I should eat if, say, I wanted to reduce my cholesterol. I'm very happy and would highly recommend this book!

The grand tome of magic! .......2007-08-18
I would call this the big shazzam of modern magical spellbooks. This book contains a wealth of information and belongs on every witch, conjuror, powwow doctor or root-workers book shelves.
So much informaiton, it would take a while to get through. However, this is more of a "cook book" type of spell book where you can easily flip through to the information you need at a particular time. This is one of the most handy aspects of this book. It is easy to read and follow.
I also like the fact that you have many difference spell options for each situation you are facing.... That way if one technique will not suit you in your current situation, you can try another option. I also like the magical formulary in the back of the book containing many magical recipees to make your own potions, oils and floor washes... contains many traditional and proven formulas.
Great information and highly recommened!
Much Love & Many Blessings,

A definate must for your bookshelf.......2007-07-12
I love this book and refer to it often. It has sooo much information! It is not just for the Magikal, but for anyone interested in "spell casting".
I also own the Witchcraft book and with the 2 of them, I feel they are the only 2 books I ever need for referencing my information.
THE ELEMENTAL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF 5000 SPELLS.......2007-07-05
THIS ON ALL SCALE 1-10 OF THE GREATEST WORKS OF ALLTIME.MAYBE IF SOMEONE COULD COME UP WITH A COMPLETE MAGICK SYMBOLS BOOK LIKE THIS .WELL I STILL DREAMING.................
Superb Book; Sure to Become an Occult Classic.......2007-06-27
One of the best collection of spells in (or out) of print. The first section is very helpful for those new to magic. It is well-written, organized, and well-compiled; a great investment for any witch or magician.
An excellent book by a great author, sure to become a classic work.
The Ultimate Book of Spells. Seriously........2007-05-23
If you enjoy spellwork that heavily utilizes herbs (even Hoodoo), this book is for you. For the price of all of the other spellbooks out there that only have 40 or so in them, you get a much better deal for your money when you buy this book. I know some people are offended by some of the content (some of the spells are "manipulative"), and I understand that. I do believe in karma and not doing any manipulative magick on anyone, so I steer away from those spells in the book. I do appreciate that Illes put them in the book to show that magick really is neither black or white; "it is both, because nature is both." The choice is there for those that wish to use them, but it is their choice alone. Back to the book itself...It may be a bit more expensive, but it is _definitely_ worth it. I bought mine almost a year ago, and still use it often today. It has a prominent spot in my witchy library, and I know you'll treasure it, too, when you buy it.

The perfect gift for people you love when they're diagnosed with Cander........2007-09-19
12+ years ago when my surgeon told me I had breast cancer (my second bout with cancer), she gave me this book. Not only did it help me develop, sustain and exude a positive attitude during my entire treatment phase, but it made me a touchstone for anyone else who was diagnosed with cancer and contacted me. Since that time, whenever someone that is near and dear to me, someone that I truly love and want to do something positive for when they are diagnosed with cancer, I give them a copy of this book. Not one of them has died to date. My most recent gift of the book has been to my husband and he is visibly changing his attitude as he reads it.
Not your fault!.......2007-07-12
When I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, I read a wide variety of "inspirational" cancer survivor books. The Bloch's Foundation's "Fighting Cancer" (free just contact them) and Norman Cousin's "Anatomy of an Illness" really resonated for me, made sense and reinforced my focus. Bernie Siegel's books on the other hand made me feel that the disease was my fault for having the "wrong" personality and that if I allowed any negative thoughts into my mind, I was putting my recovery in doubt. Heck most of my thoughts during treatment were negative, real negative! I literally threw his books in the trash, probably more of a symbolic gesture, but it felt good. BTW I am cancer free for the last 16 years, fathered a child and getting a kick out every day.
A powerful message but not scientifically prooven.......2007-06-26
Bernie's central theme is that there is a strong correlation between emotional health and physical health. However he rarely cites any scientific evidence for his claim. He keeps repeating this message based on his experiences with random patients. Surely one can conclude many things from random patients, but a theory has to applicable accross a large sample. There has to be a 'control' if the study is to have any scientific merit. I wished he had shown more of these studies.
This would definitely be a five star book had the author been more scientific in prooving his point. Nevertheless I do personally agree with it.
hope, but not false hope.......2007-05-15
I'd pretty much accepted that i was going to die from cancer. My doctors had too. My friend gave me this book and it caused a huge attitude shift in me. Now I feel that I have it within me to heal and live a long happy and healthy life. I've been told there is nothing medically can be done for me. If I hadn't read this book first I would have just laid down and died when they told me. But now I've opened myself up to other tools for healing - good diet, wheatgrass, reiki, meditation and absolutely no sugar. Time will tell, but I think I'm on the right track.
I thought this book was so good that I ordered a copy to give to my oncologist. He's a lovely man and I believe his desire to help his patients will lead him to use this book as a useful tool in the future.
a read that cheers you up.......2007-05-10
Everybody who is confused and scared about what they are going through due to serious health problems should read this book. "Healthy" people also, they will learn a lot.

Customer Reviews:
Good book when supported with additional information.......2007-09-21
I have seen so many books on dieting! Each month or so a new title pops up claiming to have the ULTIMATE SOLUTION to our nation's overeating problem. That's right folks, in most cases this is just that - OVEREATING. In most cases we do not need any diet; all we need is to stop overeating - the constant snaking, and chewing usually accompanied with drinking pops. How about drinking just clear mineral water instead? Just by making this simple adjustment many of us would shed a considerable amount of pounds. As the authors of Intuitive Eating rightly point out, there is no ultimate diet that fits everyone. Each one of us is unique, we grow up in different environments, we are all differently "wired" and we have different needs. The problem with Intuitive Eating is that most of the foods that we find in our grocery stores is not natural food any more; it often has so many added ingredients that cheat the wisdom of our bodies. Most of us can probably name one or two snack that we are just not able to stop eating. In my case it is potato chips. Whenever I start eating them, I cannot stop until I eat all of them. Why is that? - I don't know. According to Kevin Trudeau, the author of the book Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know About, the food industry purposely adds some ingredients to "hook us up" with their products, to make us addicted to some foods. Whether this is true or not, it is very likely that our wise bodies will not intuitively know when to stop eating modified, unnatural foods. The way I deal with my problem is simple - I just don't buy any potato chips any more. It is only right to follow the well known advice that can be found in any GOON NUTRITION books (do not confuse that with dieting books):
- eating in small portions, not overindulging
- eating only fresh ingredients, drinking a lot of water
- eating a lot of vegetables and fruits
- eating slowly, well chewing each byte
- eating all kind of foods, not following any fad diets
- changing your diet according to the season
- exercising
The above well known truths can be found in many sources. In addition, in the book "Can We Live 150" you will find the following bad habits that lead people to obesity:
- The habit of eating fast and not chewing the food well
- Frequent snacking or constant chewing
- Incorrect combining of food products
- Lying down after meals
- Sitting lifestyle
- Eating while watching TV
- Eating while irritated
- Eating before bedtime or at night
- Eating mostly refined and cooked food products.
Intuitive eating is a good idea, but in the modified foods environment it needs to be supported by additional knowledge of proper food combination etc. Books by Tombak ("Can We Live 150", "Cure the Incurable") and some other authors will well fill the void.
A different approach.......2007-09-19
The authors took a different approach to the issues of eating. The authors clearly state that their book may not work for everyone, especially those who have an established eating disorders and who may need professional assistance to solve their eating disorder issues. This doesn't mean you're weak.
I read this book back in January after I picked it up while waltzing through a bookstore. The major take away I got from the book was how dissatified I was with what I ate and why I was eating it. I was substituting foods that were okay tasting or were okay as far as pleasure goes for ones I really wanted. Sometimes I just want some candy or french fries. This doesn't mean I eat it all the time. At first I did after reading the book. I don't know if I gained weight once I tried it or not.
One night a couple of months after I had finished reading the book, I found myself eating my dinner and not wanting any more of it. I find that I am paying attention to when I'm full and I sometimes eat past that point by my choice. My weight is going down (I did step on the scale a month ago and almost freaked out that I would not be able to sleep through the night). I find that I'm happier with my food choices. I tend to eat decently and I add the fun foods when I really want them. And I do eat them. And I don't feel guilty. For the diet nuts, I was a size 18 when I finished reading the book in January and I am now a size 14. I've not exercised, aside from walking my dog. I've just eaten intuitively. I struggled desperately on Weight Watchers last fall (before reading this book) with counting points and working out 2x a day to lose 10 pounds in 3 months - I was miserable and I felt so guilty eating my points I was entitled. It's not Weight Watchers fault. It is a program which does teach moderation and eating what you enjoy. It just didn't address the real issue for me - dissatisfaction with food.
How else have I been impacted? For 18 years, I rarely slept through the entire night. I would wake up and eat - dissatisfaction again because the things I would eat when I woke were the things I would hide (chocolate chips, pop tarts, candy)because I was not supposed to eat them. This has had a major impact on me as I sleep through the night most every night (maybe one or two nights a month I now wake up) when before I would sleep through the night maybe 4-5 nights a month.
For me, the biggest message I gleaned from the book is gaining satisfaction from what I eat. If you have an ingrained eating disorder, you may actually need professional help that a book like this cannot provide. Seek help if you require it. This book could be a good first step towards improving your life.
great book.......2007-09-19
This book is changing my life. I have to say... its not a quick fix. Not at all. I've been following their advice for months now. Its changing my head and my train of thought... my body has yet to catch up. It is a great book for anyone suffering from an eating disorder, or if they're simple obsessed with food. After years of Weight Watchers, I couldn't even think straight about what I wanted to eat for dinner. This book is putting me back on the right track. Its an easy read and it has a quick reference section. I am constantly re-reading it for more ideas and support.
Very Intuitive Reading.......2007-08-23
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever struggled with food, weight, and dieting. While I found one chapter on their suggested nutritional guidelines a bit antiquated, the basic tenets of their philosophy are so universally, intuitively true. It is a common sense approach to food and life that will teach you to look within for answers. Absolutely refreshing!
Life Changing.......2007-07-06
If you actually learn to trust your body and listen to your body, it can do wonders for your self esteem and outlook on everything. This book helped me get out of the mind set of the eating disordered, and taught me to trust myself. My body knows what it wants and what it needs. Some days I'm hungier than others, and some days I eat fattier foods than the next day. That's all okay because it all balances out in the end, and my body is getting what it wants and needs. The book made reference to young children and how they know when to eat and when not to, what to eat and what not to. They know how to listen to their bodies, and this book helped me learn to listen to mine as well. We are all different shapes and sizes, and we don't have to fit the ideal standard that our world has set out for us - we aren't all size zeros who eat low fat foods every day and avoid cake and cookies like they are poison. Trust yourself. Read this book and learn that food doesn't have to consume every thought that goes through your head.

Essential.......2007-10-05
This is the one book I would not be without.
It is very informative and helpful.
I am a soapmaker and use the information re: the essential oils to make aromatheray and therapuetic, skin softening soaps.
too general.......2005-10-10
Gives uses for many plants and the essential oils but no complete details for making the remedies with the oils. Eg. how much of each oil to put into the natural remedies?
Encyclopedia of Essential Oils.......2005-08-17
The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils is a wonderful book to add to a collection of knowledge of Aromatherapy. It contains very detailed properties of each essential oil - easy to understand and great for reference for all to read, learn and practice. If you can't find what you are looking for specifically for an essential oil, you will most definately find it in this book.
Your Aromatherapy library is not complete if you don't have the book.......2005-08-03
If I had to have only two books in my Aromatherapy Library, this would be one of them, along with The Complete Guide to Aromatherapy, by Salvatore Battaglia. I have been an Aromatherapist since 2003, I know - a relatively short time - but a productive time, and I could not have accomplished what I have without this book. It is a very complete list - if not the best list - of essential oils available in book form, with all their properties, chemical breakdown, methods of extraction, history, ancient uses for the plants and oils, modern uses, toxicity and as if this wasn't enough - the photos are marvolous and extremely helpful in identifying plants and the oil colour. Every plant gets a whole page and the format repeats and is so easy to follow. What makes this book stand out among its peers is the ease of use with an excellent index, glossary of terms, botanical index, botanical classification and references (just because a book has these thing doesn't mean they are always good or useful).
The most toxic of essential oils, which are hardly mention in other books , or, we are merely warned to stay away from for aromatherapy use, are also covered in Ms. Lawlwess' book, and I am glad for that because I want to know the "why" of everything. Why is it bad? After all - this is meant as a reference book, not a "how to". It is one of the most important books on essential oils and you are cheating yourself not to have a copy. I don't know if Ms. Julia Lawless is alive, and if she is, when she will come out with an updated version, but I sure hope so.
Illustrated Encylopedia of Essential Oils.......2005-08-02
I love the wonderful pictures and illustrations. This book is great and will get let you see the physical properties of herbs and oils. Great reference guide.

Quite possibly every female over the age of 12 will find this huge book enlightening, pain saving, and perhaps even lifesaving. Think of it as a much more empowering and holistic Our Bodies, Ourselves. Northrup is a gynecologist who acknowledges the power of natural therapies and herbs, but also maintains that allopathic treatments, including surgery, are sometimes best. In Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom, she covers the treatment of many physical concerns--among them PMS, menstrual cramps, breast cancer, fibroids, endometriosis, infertility, depression, childbirth, abortion, cystitis, and menopause--explaining how many of these physical problems have roots in emotional upsets. For example, a woman who is unhappy with her marriage may be infertile because deep down, she knows that her husband is not the right man to have children with; a teenager who has cramps may be having problems accepting society's expectations of her as a woman.
Some readers may be put off at first by Northrup's obviously unconventional ways of thinking. Her medical approach is decidedly feminist, blaming our "addictive" and patriarchal society for many of the health problems plaguing women. She clearly illustrates her ideas, however, by drawing upon two decades of experience from her medical practice and citing dozens of her patients' remarkable personal stories. Northrup also delineates the best way to go about tuning in to one's body and mind in order to start the healing process, a self-induced therapy of sorts. She also includes in the book a copy of the eye-opening health inventory she gives her clients. It includes unusual questions such as "Are you bored with your life?" and "Do you have enough friends or neighbors?"
This book will be of special benefit to women who are pregnant or entering menopause. Northrup is an unequivocal believer in natural births and her dialogue on the birthing process will remove the fears of even the most petrified mother-to-be. She criticizes episiotomies (she should know; she's given birth without one) and supports midwifery. She also warns against the harmfulness of cesarean births and includes illustrations of acupressure points that help turn around a breech baby.
For women in perimenopause or menopause, Northrup will help turn this life phase into one of peace and personal growth instead of one of suffering. She was one of the first doctors to use natural progesterone to treat menopausal symptoms, and this revised edition includes a clear primer on the latest in hormone replacement therapy and how to determine if it's right for you. Northrup also expounds upon the benefits of acupuncture and herbalism--as well as emotional self-analysis--for alleviating hot flashes and mood swings. --Erica Jorgensen

Look beyond the physical.......2007-10-10
This is a fascinating book, that makes so much sense. the power of our thoughts and emotions on the body has been known for a long time by the masters of yoga. This book, takes it even further and looks at the female reproductive system and its functioning from a holistic perspective and that is exciting
great book for all women.......2007-09-27
my sister gave me a copy as a gift and I then bought a copy for each of my daughters. Every woman should read this book--actually every man who lives with a woman or girl should read this book.
Couldn't they afford an editor? 905 pages?????.......2007-09-05
I'm sorry if this has been mentioned in other reviews. I don't have time to read them all.
But this book is too big to hold and read! It's just unwieldy. And it's very cheap stock, almost like newsprint. Even upon the first light reading, the inner binding gave way. Disappointing!
I'll keep it on the shelf, for reference, but I won't read it through.
I have enjoyed Northrup's books in the past -- and her newsletters as well -- but I feel like she's overstepping her bounds. I'm all for the study of chakras, metaphysics, etc.--sticking to straight allopathic medicine will kill you, IMHO -- and she used to give the whole smorgasbord. But now, when she doesn't have all the medical facts, she throws in a psychological/patriarchal explanation. As I mentioned in a comment to Adelie's review, the result is blaming the the victim and not offering real tools for healing. Dangerous.
Northrup, Move Over!.......2007-08-20
Because there are REAL women's literary health guides out there. I personally suggest Our Bodies, Ourselves from the Boston Women's Health Collective. Instead of shoving unfounded, bias, and conservative information down your throat like Northrup does, it clearly explains issues pertaining to any woman of any age or background. I have extreme remorse for any woman turning to this book for tolerance and understanding concerning our bodies, minds or choices (especially the choice to have an abortion). I feel like work does nothing but spread harmful, untrue information instead of the facts. Northrup's "wisdom" is best kept inside her head.
Book Description
According to Pope John Paul II, if we live according to the true meaning of our sexuality, we "fulfill the very meaning of [our] being and existence." The human body is a "theology" because it is meant to be a sign of God's own life and love in the world. With clarity and precision, Christopher West unpacks John Paul II's Theology of the Body, translating it into a language everyone can understand.
Theology of the Body for Beginners explores the profound interconnections between sex and the deepest questions of human existence, including:
What is the meaning of life?
Why did God create us male and female?
How do we attain true happiness on earth?
What kind of joys await us in heaven?
Why is there evil in the world and how do we overcome it?
How can we experience the love we long for in the depth of our hearts?

Looking for a resource? Here it is!.......2007-05-09
This is the best book yet I have read this year- simple, totally engaging, profound and provoking. And small! Christopher West, acknowledged as one of the most erudite interpreters of John Paul II's Man and Woman He Created Them: A Theology Of The Bodyhas seeded his book with the "right questions" that lead to a deeper search for knowledge and challenge in knowing self, another, and the Word Incarnate. It is scholarly and practical, a rare and refreshing combination.
A Resource Section points out to further study, aid for ministry building and contacts. A Glossary of Terms, explaing some of the key theological expressions used in the book is itself a gem to stimulate individual or group conversations, research and meditation.
This is a book I definitely recommend for use in Adult Formation of couples, especially those preparing for the Sacrament of Matrimony, which I have started to do and have found very fruitful!
Easy to understand.....makes so much sense........2007-01-16
This book is fascinating. It has answered so many of my questions about God's love and true love. I recommend this book for all young Catholics, or even non-Catholics; it really made so much sense about why it is important to wait for marriage.
Very good for friends.......2007-01-11
Christopher West writes about John Paul II's Theology of the body in a way that is easily accessible to most audiences. As an introductory book, it of course lacks some of the depth that can be found in other books on the same topic.
I find that this is a good book to give to friends to give them a low pressure way to access the Theology of the Body.
Easy to Understand, A Quick Read.......2006-12-26
I read it in one sitting. I have read the actual talks given by John Paul the Great on the Theology of the Body--they are tough (but worthwhile) reading. West gives an overview of the basic terms and concepts of the Theology of the Body that gets the reader ready to tackle John Paul's original talks. You get to see the whole forest first before entering the thicket. Like the late Pope, West is biblical in his approach. He also does justice to the radical, revolutionary daring of the Pope's theology of the body. The glossary is a very good summary of the whole book for those who are pressed for time. West presents an approach to Catholic morality that matches that of Servais Pinckaers, O.P., who emphasizes transforming our desires through the Holy Spirit as opposed to just repressing our desires with dismal results.
A great tool for understanding the true meaning of your body!.......2006-11-09
Christopher West does a wonderful job explaining the "Theology of the Body" in terms that are easy to understand while still capturing the reverence and gravity of a concept revealed through Pope John Paul II. We live in an age of instant gratification and utilitarianism; this book is a helpful tool for exposing what God has always intended for humanity.
This book is a great start in educating yourself on Theology of the Body.

Great Information for arthritis sufferers.......2007-09-02
This author has figured out what causes many cases of arthritis. I have osteoarthritis and have been following her recommendations for about a month now. I can already tell a difference in the way I feel. If I cheat, I can really tell the difference the next day. I recommend this book.
Using The Book.......2007-03-26
Book was very organized and as a result was clear. The format of explanation and then giving a plan of action was excellent. The only thing it needed to be a 5 Star was a little more humor.
Great Book!.......2007-03-26
A different theory at what causes arthritis, written by someone who generally cured herself. Talks a lot about food sensitivities that cause arthritis and how to figure out what your food sensitivity so you can avoid or reduce your expose thus feel better.
The Type of Arthritis the Author Has Should Be Revealed!.......2007-03-13
I think this is a good book, but unfortunately, the author's type of arthritis (allergic) is not related to rheumatoid arthritis, which is what my husband has. So, basically, I wasted my money on a book we cannot use.
a miracle.......2007-01-20
This book and the ideas expressed in it are nothing short of a miracle. I started having my first hints of RA 11 months ago. It took 3 months of rapidly developing pain in most of my joints until I was finally diagnosed. After the devastating news & realization that the heavy drugs I was on were not having much if any effect I started seeking out alternatives on the internet. That is when I ran across the food/arthritis connection & this book - Conquering Arthritis. It has been nothing short of a miracle. After the week detox I could already bend my fingers which was something I thought I would not do again, I was already convinced. The process of healing is a very long & stressful task. Identifying all my problem foods took 4 - 5 months & it seemed like I would never be able to eat a normal meal. It has been well worth it as now I have no pain from RA. This takes complete dedication & I was amazed at how much strength I had as I went though so many struggles emotionally & physically to be pain free. My motivation was thinking about a miserable future where I couldn't walk & enjoy the outdoors which made the alternative, the temporary struggles of the diet, seem like nothing. I can now make relatively normal meals again with just a few substitutions. I know that at this point I am not completely healed but I am well on my way. It has been a year since my first pains. I have come so far & feel so blessed everytime I go out to take a jog or hike. Barbara Allan has been such a blessing and an inspiration. I am so thankful for this book. I encourage anyone with any kind of arthritis to buy it. It is life changing!
