it's okay.......2007-10-09
I guess not so much what I expected. It has good advise but it keps saying the same thing over and over. So don't let the size fool you. Good info just stated too many times. Also I really wish there were some color in it.However it gives me a good head start on planing.
Don't plan your wedding without this book.......2007-10-05
This is the single most helpful piece of literature about wedding planning I've read. I'm currently planning my own wedding and frankly don't know where I'd be if my cousin hadn't sent me a copy of this gem. Particularly the chapter on wedding gowns has been awesome... I am armed to make my wedding purchases without being swindled, as the entire wedding industry seems committed to taking every last cent!!! This book helps you keep it all in perspective. I couldn't recommend it more enthusiastically!
Excellent resources........2007-09-25
This book has tons of ideas on how to save money - some of them are more helpful than others. The only downside is that as time goes on the resources they list are outdated, but that's not a huge drawback. I used this book as a reference during my four month engagement and would highly recommend it for anyone wanting to save some money (who doesn't!).
A must-have for wedding planning.......2007-09-16
A recently married friend lent me her copy of this book when I got engaged and it has been the most consistent, appreciated publication in all of the crazy wedding planning stuff that has piled up in my apartment. I loved it so much that I sent my parents a copy via Amazon. They are on-location of the wedding site and we have been planning with them long-distance. I intended for my mom to read it, but found out a few days later that my dad had been reading it all of the way through and not only learning a lot, but enjoying it! This book is not just about bargains, it is about navigating the planning of an event that is both completely foreign but incredibly personal. Highly recommended.
Book came in excellent condition and right on time.......2007-09-14
The service was excellent as was the condition of the book. Also, I received it in a timely fashion!

Book Description
London's most scandalous beauty, Pandora Effington, intends to marry a hero—not one of those boring, run-of-the-mill bachelor lords who leave her cold. No, the husband she desires must be someone special, someone whose touch sends delicious shivers down her spine, and who will do absolutely everything in his power to win her love. Someone like . . . Maximillian Wells.
The dashing Earl of Trent cannot believe his ears . . . or his eyes. Here before him stands beautiful Pandora Effington, and the fiery, unattainable heiress is making him a most tantalizing offer. Maximillian can have the lady's hand in marriage . . . if he agrees to play a game of her devising—one involving great risk, ingenuity, passion, and determination.
It is a game he has no intention of losing . . .

Fun Regency Tale.......2007-01-25
Brought up by loving, wealthy, and unconventional parents, Lady Pandora Effington Pandora dubbed the "Hellion" of Grovsner Square has freedoms few debutantes are allowed including the choice to marry...or not! After seven seasons (depending on who's counting) only one man has ever piqued her interest, Maximillian Wells, the Earl of Trent. Consequently because he never seemed to notice her Pandora was taking steps to change that.
Maximillian wasn't around for Pandora's first few seasons, but he did notice and was intrigued by her these last few years. He was happy to note his feigned disinterest was working remarkably well in gaining her attention. A well-known rake, he'd sown his oats and was ready to settle down. But, Maximilian wanted more in a mate than the placid simpering debutantes up for grabs - no, what he needed was a wife with spirit and the "hellion" was precisely what he needed. On a lark he asked that she give him a test to show he could be her hero -- never suspecting she'd give him the twelve tasks of Hercules to achieve. For a mere man these tasks would be impossible, but with ingenuity, resolve, and creative interpretation Max would succeed!
Some authors were born to write Regency Romance and one must truly put Victoria Alexander in this category! In this reissued book of what appears to be the beginning of the Effington family series her dialogs were witty and the main characters were quickly embraced for their affability. I absolutely loved Pandora Effington whom I found to be a delightful intelligent and independent heroine. I'm also looking forward to discovering the rest of this larger brood of other unique Effington family members after getting a glimpse of a couple of them in this volume. I loved Max, the reformed rake and the `take-charge' hero as he came up with creative ways of working around the impossible Herculean tasks on his list to win the lady of his heart. If he ended up with a little bit of some ingenious help from Pandora's relatives who were all most anxious to have him succeed at his tasks, then so be it! The secondary romance that blossomed between the protagonists' best friends added another layer of interest to this regency romp that kept the entertainment at a high pitch and the sensual heat at a more than adequate simmering temperature! This should be high on the top of all regency genre lovers buy lists.

A First Class Bargain..........2005-12-17
Six words for this book - loved it, loved it, loved it!
This is the second book I read by this author, Victoria Alexander. I also read "Until We Meet Again" and that was a great read too.
"The Wedding Bargain" was a fun read as it was a complex book with lots of happenings. If you want just a sexy and steamy novel - go elsewhere. If you want a romantic and soft love story - go elsewhere. If you want a novel that pits two strong characters head on and involves witty banter back and forth, lots of fun adventures and a story where the guy truly pursues the girl that he feels is the only one right for him - this will be the book for you.
The best thing that can be said for this story is that the characters - Max & Pandora - meet from the first lines of the book and the story does not deviate from there as to who this book will be about. Yes, there are other characters that are fun in this book - Max's best friend Laurie, Pandora's friend Cynthia, their other family and friends but...the leads never are far from the main story at any one time as it should be. Max and Pandora are the perfect lead characters and they work very well together - they are attractive, intelligent, fun loving, passionate and well liked.
Bottom line....Pandora sets Max up on an impossible mission - complete a long list of Hercules 12 incredible accomplishments and she would marry him - should he fail - she will pick the worst wife possible and he must marry her. The story goes on a wild ride after that and you will enjoy immensely all the creative ways Max finds to complete the nearly impossible list. Some readers felt this dragged the book down and that it went on too long but, to the contrary...I liked the challenge issued and how they both handled the process of completing the list. I haven't read anything like that before so, it was charming to me.
You'll have to buy the book and read it to see if he does complete the list and win the girl OR if the girl should rule the day. You will laugh at the banter, avidly follow the plot line and root each of them on to win!
The sexual intimacy is limited but, you don't miss it a lot in this book - everything else is so interesting it's ok. I would have liked to see a little different ending, more drawn out but, that's ok. Bravo to Max (who Pandra calls a rogue, rake, scoundrel and beast).... As he finds his mate and goes after her with gusto - just as a good man should. Bravo to Pandora (who Max calls his gorgeous little Hellion) who is nervous and panicked at being pursued so avidly but, she knows the chase is half the fun and that once love bites you, you can only run so far. When Max presents Pandora with the golden apples necklace - well, you'll believe in love again yourself.
Buy this book, read it, add it to your library and believe in great love relationships again!
Somewhere between a 3 & 4 STAR??.......2005-10-15
I guess you could call this -two stubborn people find love. And sometimes their stubborness got in the way of an enjoyable love story. I actually go back and forth on some of Victoria Alexanders characters. some are very shallow some are very compelling. MAx and Pandora were a little bit of both, but neither completely likeable or endearing. Actually the secondary characters Cynthia and the Twit might be more real. Max, now decides he wants to marry, and he has been eyeing up the Hellion Pandora for years but never giving her any attention. Pandora has had 7 seasons and given all the men of the ton a hard time and is actually rather agrivated that Max has never paid her any attention. So they both start of rather at odds with the other. Striking up a bargain to have some ridiculous contest (and it was rather stupid) to see if Maz can indeed be her hero and then she will agree to wed him Of course all these tests of Hercules are impossible so Maz uses jewelry and symbols to win the tests. But the real key here is they begin to both fall in love - but since they are both so stubborn neither will tell the other. It is certainly good for them that friends and family step in and help them to finally actually by accident admit thier feelings. I find people this stubborn rather trying and tedious, thus the 3 verses 4 stars. Some of the plot moved well and was certainly readable. And if you want to get a complete picture of the Effington family and their friends you need to read all of the books - at least that is the way I approach series romances. So I would recommend the book, but know that it might be one of the weaker links in the chain.
The Wedding Bargain.......2005-07-08
I got the book within a week after it was shipped out. The book was very good.
Cute but tedious.......2004-10-01
Started with a bang, but it got so tedious towards the end, I just wanted to jump in the book and slap the heroine. Love him already will ya Pandora!!! Took me a week to get to the end, just could not get into the book like her others.

Weddings is the most anticipated wedding book of the year, and for good reason: it's as gorgeous, filling, and sweet as a double slice of wedding cake. As Colin Cowie explains in the book's introduction, he earned recognition as a wedding designer by paying attention to the personalities and desires of the bride and groom as well as the smallest, most excruciating details. "Style should prevail," he says, explaining that style has nothing to do with the design of the dress or the make of the limousine and everything to do with confidence, consideration, and graciousness toward others; it's a tone everyone can respect. The typical bride and groom may not be rich, famous, or personally acquainted with famous musicians who beg to play at the reception, and the example weddings pictured in the book are conspicuous-consumption daydreams for many. But everyone wants to plan their own perfect wedding, and Cowie is a genius at the fine embellishments that can make a modest wedding more memorable and easier on the pocketbook.
Customer Reviews:
Weddings Colin Cowie.......2006-11-10
Was a bit disappointed that it was just a collection of various weddings and their stories. Was looking for more practical hints.
Not a single thing I would do.......2006-03-04
Thank goodness I checked this book out from the library before buying it! I flipped through the whole 250-page book in literally 15 minutes. There is a ton of print in teeny tiny font. Personally, I don't care that much for what Colin Cowie has to say, I am more interested in the pictures that he gathers to give a visual image of a wedding. I didn't read any of it because it was so small and there seemed to be so much that I can only imagine how much useless filler was in there.
The pictures, what I actually care about, were of poor quality. The book was published in 1998 but many of the weddings screamed 1980s. The pictures were small, with poor lighting and lacked a glossy, professional finish.
I don't know if the point of the book was to show a ton of different wedding styles and to give everyone ideas no matter what your wedding will be - but that's not the point I got. The headings of the weddings were things like "Formal garden party", "Informal party under a tent", but they all looked exactly the same. The decorations, dresses and menus all seemd very old-fashioned with gilded angles, poofy sleeves and roses galore. There were more roses in this book than I think I have seen in my entire life. And for a girl whose wedding will have hydrangeas (which were shown once or twice as a filler with roses), it wasn't particularly helpful.
In a nutshell, I thought this was an uninspired book with poor quality pictures and too much verbiage. I didn't see a single thing that I even stopped to think, "Hm, would I want that in my wedding?", I just blew past everything because nothing was appealing.
I got this book for a different reason.......2004-08-21
While this book is a FANTASTIC book for those who want inspiration for those starting a wedding... I bought this book for an entirely different reason. I am an artist and I am always looking for books with fantastic photography to help inspire my drawings and paintings. This book has some AMAZING photography and has some absolutely sensual moments. The mood is set throughout the book, very full of life and sensuality and unbelievably fresh. The array of flowers, the silkiness of the dresses, the ambience of the swagging fabrics, the smoothness of the linen tablecloths, it is all eye candy.
Even if you aren't planning a wedding (like me), this is a fine book for your collection and a must have for photography enthusiasts who like wedding photos.
I highly recommend it!
Wonderful !.......2003-07-18
Great for a visually inspired person as well as having some great text to help you in the planning and execution of this important day.
Yes, the weddings that Mr. Cowie deals with are pretty over-the-top but he offers some beautiful ideas to help you decide on the type of wedding that YOU want and not what the world expects.
The text is informative and the pictures divine.
I can't wait till his next book comes out.
Thank you , Mr. Cowie , for a fun book.
Borrow it from the library, not worth buying!.......2002-09-16
In the midst of my desperate search for ideas during my wedding planning, I grabbed a copy of this book at the local library. The pictures were stunning and the ideas looked great... But the ideas are only possible for people with fat bank accounts. His idea of "creative" and "chic" is BIG BIG and BIGGER flower arrangements topping at thousands of dollars each, probably. It's a nice eye candy to flip through... you may learn a few things and it may spark a few ideas of your own, but not worth the price tag. Buy it used or borrow it from the library. I found that the handful of Bride magazines I obtained had more creative ideas, and I could tear the pages out of those and copy them for vendors... you wouldn't want to bend a page in this pricey book.

Bridal Bargains Planner.......2007-09-18
The product was received in very good condition. The only problem was that I ordered the wrong product, had wanted the Bridal Wedding book, not the detailed planner. Daughter has since decided to fly to Las Vegas for wedding, so little planning on my part involved. Thank you for the good service anyway, the planner may prove helpful to her in some ways.
Bridal Bargains Wedding Planner: The Dollars & Senise Guide to Planning Your Wedding.......2007-05-31

Not as helpful as the bridal bargain book.......2007-05-19
I had bought this planning book because I really like the the other book Bridal Bargains written by the same author Denise Fields. I'm in the process of planning of my wedding, and so far the only part that helped me was the first one or two chapters on setting a wedding budget. The rest I thought was too general. I was able to find most of the same or more information from surfing the web. Again, for a much better buy, get the Bridal Bargains book instead.
bridal bargain planner.......2007-05-14
I enjoyed looking through this wedding planner workbook, designed to go with the book of the similar name. It has additional hints and tips not in the book, and plenty of places to write down lists of things that are important to weddings. I bought it for my 25 year old daughter who loves to organize and plan things - especially for her own wedding - and a person like her will use it. If you are not a "write down" planner type of person, maybe just the book would be enough.
WONDERFUL!!!.......2007-02-07
this is an excellent planner. it has everything i would have expected from a wedding planning guide and then some. i would reccomend this for anyone because it really has something for everyone.

Customer Reviews:
Every bride needs this!.......2007-01-18
This is a box set of two books. I did find the wedding planner to be the most helpful but some of the most useful ideas came from the book included. I would recommend this set.
I have alreay saved hundreds of dollars and my wedding is not even finished. It helped as both an organizing tool and as a guide to made and keep a budget. The most helpful ideas were how to use the internet to your advantage in planning a wedding. It gives a lot of suggested websites that are not only less expensive but offer good service as well. It helped me to cut 3/4 away from my flower expenses and 3/4 away from my wedding gown costs already. The ideas were things I never would have thought of myself.
I have seen a lot of books that help with a budget and a lot that help with planning but none that combines both so beautifully. I highly recommend this book.
Book Description
Sandwiched between feminist ideals and the allure of the traditional wedding, a modern woman's look at what it means to be a bride
Why is the stereotypical image of the bride before her wedding day that of a stressed, moody, indecisive, and frustrated woman cracking under pressure and snapping at everyone in sight? Why does being a bride feel like going through a second adolescence? And why, with the rate of couples seeking counseling for wedding-related debt doubling from year to year, do we continue to spend absurd amounts of money on this institution?
Examining how the pressure to give into the crowd (mothers, mothers-in-law, caterers, dressmakers, bridesmaids, the groom himself) and the associated traditions (wearing white, being given away, being introduced as Mr. and Mrs. Groom) is sometimes at odds with the "progress" the bride and groom may have made on these issues in private, Kamy Wicoff answers these questions and more in this sure-to-be-talked-about look at the modern bride. Through poignant and funny personal experience, eye-opening conversations with other brides, and scholarly and popular research, she strives to find both the personal and cultural meaning of all the trappings and traditions-from the proposal to the ring, to the dress, and even the bachelorette party. Her insights will blow the roof off the proverbial wedding tent. Her passionate argument for conscious marriage will ring true to the thousands of women planning weddings every day. To keep our sanity, our integrity, and our relationships intact, Wicoff says, "the way we marry matters."
Customer Reviews:
funnier (and more relevant) than I expected.......2007-09-18
I came across this book kinda randomly and wasn't in the process of planning a wedding, but I read it anyway. Since then I have recommended and shared it with almost every woman I know, especially those getting married and they, too, have loved it. This book is funny, insightful, and nakedly honest. At times it forces you to admit to thoughts and feelings that, as enlightened modern women, we often try to hide. As a bonus, I was suprised by how much I, a single woman, could relate to much of it. If you have been in relationships or been a part of a wedding party, you can connect with this book.
Oh, whew, it's not just me!.......2007-07-27
I'm glad someone has finally taken an honest look at weddings, instead of the "Your Special Day Where Everything Should Be Perfect" kind of mindset (and book) that seeks to personify your future perfect marriage into one current perfect day. If you've been wondering why turning your life into a production felt so *wrong*, and wondering where this wedding insanity came from, this is the book to pick up.
An Engagement Lifesaver!.......2007-05-14
I loved this book!! I'm engaged (with a decidedly smaller than 2 caret ring), yet I could relate to so many of the stories being told by this wonderful author. My fiancé was a little scared of the title, but the more I read to him, he started laughing out loud with me at the wonderful new perspective that Kamy brought to the journey from dating to getting married. I bought this book for a Professor/Engaged friend and her reaction was exactly the same: getting married does enter you into a very different reality and this book makes the trip a little easier and leaves you with some very good questions (and answers) about being a modern bride with antiquated expectations and keeping your sense of humor throughout. I would highly recommend this book to anyone getting married or planning on getting married.
Excellent Read!.......2007-03-29
My friend gave me this book as an engagement present and I am so glad she did! Kamy writes very sincerely and honestly about how easily it is to be sucked into the wedding frenzy. She uses her personal experience to invite readers to examine the wedding traditions that have lost their meanings and sometimes even go against our values as modern women. My wedding will be much more meaningful and personal because I've had the chance to read this book. Highly recommended!
Exceptional, Intriguing, a Must Read for EVERY woman even thinking about marriage.......2007-03-28
This book is amazing. It is the book I wish I would have had to give to my best friend a year ago and it is *hands down* the best book about marriage and feminism I have ever read. It was such a page turner I could hardly put it down.
Kamy Wicoff skillfully blends the personal and the political as she analyzes herself and her wedding through the lens of traditional gender expectations and the relentless consumerism of the wedding industry. Every moment, from her uncharacteristic angst over the proposal process to the real marriage after the "big day" is examined.
I was so impressed by the balance that Wicoff was able to achieve. Memoirs are the "hot" genre right now, but she manages to save this book from becoming a me-me-me wedding schlock by always keeping her eye on larger matters. She challenges her readers to resist the pervasive lure of an industry that tells her she must have the perfect dress and perfect wedding and a wedding tradition that preps females and males for gender roles out of the 1950's... even when she acknowledges that she didn't resist it herself. I'm impressed by her brutal honesty, her integrity in relaying the ways that she ignored the realities around her, and her razor sharp dissection of those around her (from her fiancée to her mother).
As a feminist, this book was a joy to read. As my college friends get older and marry, we've had discussions about these issues without being able to pinpoint why it bothers us. This book gives voice to so many things that my friends and I have experienced as abstract emotions (particularly the crazed over-planning bride and the sexist mystery of showers). It puts the puzzle pieces together and helps make sense of what emerges. But more then that, it encourages EACH bride to make her own sense of these issues and make her own way. This is not "Kamy Wicoff brags about her great feminist wedding" or "Kamy Wicoff thinks your wedding sucks". This is Kamy Wicoff giving you the right tools to ask critical questions.
By far, one of the finest personal is political memoirs I've read; truly in the league of "Nickel and Dimed" by Barbara Ehrenreich. I'm eagerly awaiting Wicoff's next book with high hopes.

In some ways better than the movie.......2007-09-06
This was my first read by Elizabeth Young. Really enjoyed it. There's way more to the story than what was in the movie, the Wedding Date. But hey, let's not discount that scene against the car with Dermot Mulroney. As soon as I get a chance I will read another Elizabeth Young book.
A Wonderful Adventure in a Claustrophobic Environment!.......2007-03-12
I'm not finished reading the book, but I already love it! It is really fun and witty and if you've ever seen the movie, it's so much different! It's worth it though - a perfect story idea! Brilliant!
great book!.......2007-01-14
I loved reading this book. It's light and fun with great humor! You'll be laughing as you read with some of the wacky and real characters.
Made into a Movie.......2006-12-01

Great ideas for the bride and groom's parents to use!.......2007-03-13
As the mother of the bride, and recent mother of the groom, I found this book to provide many useful ideas for invitations, flowers, the menu, cakes, and even my wedding day wardrobe. I was able to suggest great items and shopping strategies, which made me feel like an important member of the planning team. Highly recommended for parents who are helping to plan and pay for the wedding.
Simply Wonderful.......2006-11-14
I recently purchased 3 books to plan my wedding, and I was recieved 5 more. This particular book is extremely helpful. There is certainly a lot of info that a thrifty person may have already considered, however it helps you bring things all together with a wide variety of options. The book is easy to follow, and the way it is written makes it easy to skip around without losing interest. Out of all the wedding planning books I purchased and recieved this is by far the most helpful.
Here's one way to save wedding money -- don't buy this book!.......2005-12-08
To be frank, this book was a total waste of money. In all the 1000 Bargain Tips, I don't think I found ONE that I haven't already thought of, read about in a magazine or seen online.
Among the wonderful tips:
--Serve a less expensive meal to guests
--Order fewer flowers
--Buy a non-designer dress
--Borrow your ring pillow from a friend
--Get a photographer to cover just a few hours of the reception instead of staying the entire time
Wow, thanks for the insight!
How about, Save yourself $12 that could be used to buy your unity candle by NOT BUYING THIS BOOK.
I stupidly bought it in conjunction with 1000 ways to make your wedding special. Can't wait to crack THAT one open.

not worth it!.......2005-12-06
I actually got this book as a gift and I am sorry that my mother paid for it! The book showcases some real weddings, but the pictures are nothing special. I have seen variations of all of the pictures online through bridal planning sites (there are a few that even showcase real weddings). There are very few actual details on how to plan an outdoor ceremony. I was very disappointed in the book. Flip through a copy at a local library or book store instead of buying.

The reason I bought this book is because I'm planning a wedding for one of my friends on the beach. As soon as I opened the book the pictures were so perfect. I'm actually recreating the beach wedding the book shows with the bamboo arc. It's perfect if you are still deciding on the atmosphere for you wedding day. It's a wonderful book for wedding planners to show their brides.
Pretty pictures, not much substance.......2004-02-25
This is a really beautiful book, but if what you are looking for is a comprehensive selection of pictures detailing every aspect of an outdoor wedding, this isn't it. The book looks at about 12 weddings, and (by and large) has one picture of the ceremony, one of the bride, and a couple others that look at smaller details (the bouquet, or the favors). I was hoping for larger pictures of every reception and ceremony from a number of angles, as well as explanations on how to do everything. This book does have tips on executing an outdoor wedding, but they are mostly obvious like "consider renting a tent, or reserving one in case it rains." This is not, by any means, a guide on how to plan an outdoor wedding, but if you just want to look at a few kind of random pictures in order to get ideas on things, than this is a nice book, if expensive.

The Beauty of Differences.......1999-11-23
A beautiful simple childrens' book. Jafta and the Wedding was pleasant and easy to read. This book brings to life the imagination and joys of being a child. The simplistic use of a cream backdrop and hues of brown stepped out with a persona that complimented the text. No other colors were used which made this book to me rich and authentic in its written vein. If you are open to introducing culture to children this would be good for starters. Before reading Jafta and the Wedding, talk about how we celebrate weddings, how children play in the States and contrast after reading the story. I could visualize the scenes and I felt as if I was there! A wonderful childrens' book!
