Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

"Is your sex life perfect?" challenges Laura Corn in the introduction to her delightful and unique 101 Nights of Grrreat Sex. If the title, with its guarantee of "grrreat sex twice a week, every week, for one full year!" won't tempt you, the packaging will. Like the cover says, "Go ahead, tear this book up.... please!" Intriguingly packaged, 101 Nights is reminiscent of the book-in-plain-brown-wrapper, except in this case each page is sealed; no peeking! Once a week, according to 101's instructions, each lover picks a sealed page (with scenarios such as "Up Against the Wall," "Angel with a Lariat," "Fire down Below," and "Point of No Return") and tears it out of the book, keeping it a secret. Follow the scenario and, throughout the week, expect any number of erotic surprises.

We let life get in the way of love, Laura Corn states, and worries in the way of wonder. At the heart of this book is the assertion that surprise and anticipation rekindle passion: "This is not like some new diet, where you're expected to simply change your lifestyle overnight. Here, you'll learn by doing--slowly, gradually, month by month. And because you're doing it often--every week, remember, for a whole year--you'll actually turn interesting, exhilarating, unpredictable sex into a habit, and not just a special event."

There are 50 secret seductions written for his eyes only and 50 written for hers. His seductions begin with playful ways of not just getting her in the mood, but making her breathless with anticipation. Hers begin with the revelation of "Marilyn Monroe's sensual bedroom secret that drove her lovers wild (and caused JFK's toes to curl!)."

All it takes is a commitment to play and, well, to tear up the book. 101 Nights does all the rest, including lists of ingredients (massage oil, silk scarf, champagne, etc.) as well as terse tips culled from 54 of the bestselling books in the field. Loaded with recipes for licentious loving, 101 Nights of Grrreat Sex gives lovers permission to sin with the safety of a script and a fun way to palpate the old passion.

This book took ages to find having read about it a couple of years back. Was it worth the wait? Yes. It's an ingenious way to have fun with your partner, to do things together. There are 50 things to surprise the woman, 50 things to surprise the man. The fun is in the excitement of what surprise is in store for you. It helps to overcome inhibitions too.

1 out of 5 stars A Waste of Money.......2007-05-24

This book was suggested to me by a family member, and I had a hard time getting my husband to agree to buy it since we couldn't see what we were buying. After finally convincing him, I have to say he was completely right. We agreed to alternate weeks, with him tearing out a page the first week, and me taking one the next week.

After a few weeks, we ended up just tearing all the pages out one night, looking for good ones. The author makes a lot of assumptions, and writes her seductions accordingly. In order for the majority of these to work, you have to live in a house, not an apartment, have office jobs, and a big bank account. A lot of the pages that are "For His Eyes Only" involve a lot of preparation to create a very romantic scene, which aren't always practical, or instruct him to treat the woman like an object because, "that's her biggest fantasy." The pages that are "For Her Eyes Only" tend to involve minimal planning and a lot of oral sex.

In addition to all of that, some pages tell you before you open them that they will cost you a certain amount of money, but you can't always trust that. She assumes that you will have certain items, and if you don't, it will cost you. The few pages we've actually used cost at least $25 each, and we can't afford to spend that much on unnecessary items every week.

Last, but not least, some of the pages suggest things that are so outrageous we would never consider them. Most of those involve sexual acts in very public places (restaurants, theaters, even department store fitting rooms) that are a good way to get arrested. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

4 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the money...........2007-01-29

I am glad that I ignored the few negative reviews of this book and just went for it. My husband and I have been married for 5 years and have bought books of this genre before, but they have all been total duds, usually because the "hot" suggestions were things that only a sexual idiot wouldn't have thought of before (showering together, anyone?). To be sure, there are some suggestions like that in Laura Corn's book, but to be honest this is the only book we've found that also includes some genuinely creative, slightly wild, and very FUN ideas as well! I'm a little on the shy side, but I do have an imagination, and it is very freeing to have an instruction sheet to "blame" the escapade on in case it does turn out to be a dud. Most of them, though, I have to say, have NOT been duds! (I did cheat and read most of the pages right after I bought the book, because the element of surprise wasn't so important to me, but my husband LOVES to be surprised...just decide what's right for you if you get the book).

So, basically I only have one big quibble with the book. My husband and I are totally against any and all use of pornography, which eliminates at least 5 of the scenerios right off the bat. There's another scenerio where Laura recommends "hooker" role-playing, and several more where she lauds the praises of porn stars like Jenna Jamison, which we found completely tasteless. So, for some people, that might be enough to bypass this book altogether. Also, Laura LOVES to incorporate a vibrator into her suggestions (a dozen or so), so if you don't like that idea (I just don't care for the things, personally), those are out, too.

If you are willing to just ignore any pages that offend you, though, and if you'd like to break out of your shell a bit and have been wanting to spice up your love life, this is a really good place to start. The reviewers who complained about the amount of money spent are overexaggerating; there were 8 or so scenerios by my count that required a nice meal out and a hotel (>$100), maybe a dozen more in the $30-50 range, and most of the others didn't require any truly significant purchases. And, nearly half can be done with stuff you probably already have around the house. So, if that all sounds pretty good, have fun!

5 out of 5 stars Great book for couples.......2006-11-06

This book is perfect for new couples, honeymooners, or couples that are adding a new "spark" to their relationship. Makes it easy to do something special with your loved one, everything needed is listed.....a must have for couples.

5 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied.......2006-07-06

My husband & myself have been married for 10 yrs. This book certainly gave us some refreshing ideas. It is fun, & exciting. I certainly liked the fact that each chapter is sealed, & seperate for him & her. So you have no idea what your partner is going to do. (Very Exciting!) After 10 yrs of marraige it really helped spice up our sex life. So many different ideas. And it's almost like opening a new present everytime you get to a new chapter. I think that's what makes it so different from other books. You have nothing to lose. I recomend it very highly! Have Fun!

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Every Man.......2007-05-14

I bought this book when I was 49. This book was everything that I had hoped and more. By following the instructions in this book, and exercising, I was able to make love all night long and experience total body orgazisms and keep going. I had girls calling me for dates. I only wish that I had discovered this book when I was younger. Now that my boys are older, I'm buying two more copies for them.

2 out of 5 stars Clench WHAT? Definitely requires a Personal Trainer.......2007-01-31

Eh..

this book was ok. interesting in the fact that it was written by a woman who is a "professional sex surrogate". if that's not a euphimism, I don't know what is.

written from a female perspective, it may seem to be an easy thing to do as she suggests, and some of her male 'colleagues' are reported to be doing these tightening maneuvers, however, just as some people may be able to roll their R's, their tongues, or cross their eyes, others simply cannot, for whatever reason.

I just think a little more disclosure would be prudent to avoid returns - :D

5 out of 5 stars Huge surge of confidence.......2006-09-21

Guys, this book is a must have. We've all heard about working your PC muscle out to last as long as you want. Well, this book tells you that but it goes so much deeper. It has a lot of fun exercises (especially if you have a partner). Even if you just halfway follow her instructions, you'll accomplish amazing results. My confidence has skyrocketed because I had mastered the technique. Trust me, BUY THIS BOOK!

5 out of 5 stars EVERY GUY SHOULD KNOW THIS SECRET!.......2006-09-14

Bought this book 11 years ago. It's so simple to learn and confidence becomes your middle name. Never be afraid of not satisfying any woman ever again!!!

This book is a great (and entertaining) reference for those looking to improve or expand their love life. DR Keesling does a wonderful job with a often frustrating topic. She does well by approaching the subject with simple knowledge and humor.

My sister in law had the older version of this book, and she showed it to my wife. We wanted something to make our love-life more exciting.

When we ordered it, we found out it was updated, and improved! The seductions are easy to setup and do, with five-star results!

I get romance points with my wife by ripping out the envelopes with these cool ideas, and going to the trouble to make them happen. (Not much trouble, when it's all planned out for you.)

I love it when I get a teaser in my email from the website. It really increases the anticipation, if you know what I mean!

Got this book as an anniversary gift for DH. It is grrreat! You rip out a sealed 'envelope' and open it up for an awesome seduction, complete with ingredients and instructions. We love knowing the other has something planned, but not knowing what it is until it happens!

101 Nights has been completely updated with a new cover, new seduction ideas, and a link to Laura's website where you can send an eCard or an iTease before you seduce your partner. The iTeases are grrreat, too! They add a little mystery and fun to the whole process.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to spice up (or rescue) their love life. My favorite so far is #8 Peek-A-Boo!

Not only was I excited, but my husband couldn't have thought of a better idea himself than a book that does the planning for you. On top of working and parenting the last thing we have time for is to come up with creative ideas to keep the romance alive. Certainly this book is sure to be beneficial to any new or old lovers who are looking for a little spice in the bedroom and beyond.

5 out of 5 stars Keeping dates alive and mysterious with the one you love.......2005-07-28

This was purchased as a gift. An attempt to get romance back into a 21 year marriage relationship that has gone a little stale. The book was recommended by my niece in Canada. She and her husband absolutely love it! They have alot of fun with the romance and dates!!! A great gift for a new couple and a fabulous gift for a well seasoned, getting predictable couple.

3 out of 5 stars Gone With the Wind???.......2007-09-18

First off, let me say that I am a HUGE Lisa Kleypas fan. No one writes a self-made man with SCORCHING sensuality like this author. She is in a league with just a few other authors...(McNaught, Garwood, Quinn, Howard, and Putney).

With all that being said, this was not one of my favorite's.

First of all, I really felt like I do when I watch Gone With the Wind. Scarlett is a spoiled, materialistic, self-centered character. The heroine of this novel is the same way. I tried to like Annabelle, but until the last two chapters of the book, I could barely tolerate her. She was entirely concerned about status, wealth, and landing a member of the peer. Shallow is another word I would use to describe her. Kleypas writes that she is this way to save her mother and brother from financial ruin and exploitaton, but I just didn't buy it.

Just like Rhett is obsessed with Scarlet in Gone With the Wind, so is Simon Hunt with Annabelle. I get frustrated when great heros get obsessed with shallow women..it seems like such a waste of a good man. For the life of me I have no idea why Rhett loved Scarlett and I am perplexed why a great man like Simon Hunt would be so obsessed with a woman's beauty that he'd see past her character defects.

I definitely will read the rest of this quartet...(Autumn, Winter, and Spring), but the first book is definitely not a keeper for me...a true rareity with a Kleypas novel.

5 out of 5 stars Powerful start to new series.......2007-09-11

Annabelle Peyton is one of four young women who are having problems finding a husband amongst the British nobility for varying reasons. The four women, Annabelle, Daisy and Lillian Bowman, and Evie Jenner become friends and call themselves the wallflowers.

Annabelle's father died and left her and her mother penniless and Annabelle without a dowry. Even though Annabelle is beautiful, men know that if her circumstances become desperate enough they can have her as a mistress instead of marrying her. The wallflowers begin to work together to find husbands but Annabelle situation is growing desperate if she doesn't find a husband this season it is unlikely she will marry. Simon Hunt, a commoner who found his fortune in the locomotive industry desires Annabelle but he doesn't plan on ever marrying. However, he will do anything to get Annabelle. Unfortunately for Simon, Annabelle loathes him. Although she cannot deny her attraction, something about the arrogant Simon infuriates her.

This was a wonderfully written book and Annabelle and Simon were intriguing characters. The villan was sufficiently creepy and the action quick paced. Great start.

ISBN 0060091290 - Not following too many of the generic rules of romance novels has worked for Kleypas, making her one of the few romance authors I would read from again of my own choice.

Since her father died, Annabelle and her family have fallen on hard times, financially, when she discovers that her mother has taken a different fall of her own - assuming the role of mistress to a pig of a man to help pay the bills. Annabelle feels the pressure of the need to marry well, which will save her mother from Lord Hodgeham and keep her brother in school. Landing a man with a title and money isn't just an issue of snobbery, it's a must. Her upbringing has taught her that she should marry a peer and her families dire straits requires that he be wealthy enough to help them. Unfortunately, Annabelle doesn't have a dowry and without a dowry, she's just a pretty face, more likely to end up someone's mistress than the wife of a peer. After almost 4 seasons without an offer of marriage, Annabelle's on the verge of becoming a spinster.

Decidedly not the right man, Simon Hunt is the son of a butcher. He's wealthy, but in the low-class way of having worked for it. Worse, he likes to talk about work and making money. Some of the peerage invites him to places he really doesn't belong, throwing he and Annabelle in each other's way. She admits she finds him attractive, but she's got her mind set on marrying a certain sort of man. And she has a plan.

As the season began to draw to a close, Annabelle found herself sitting with 3 other girls. They'd sat together often, watching others dance, but never spoken. One night, however, that changes and the four girls make a pact to help each other find husbands. They've all got their own reasons for ending up wallflowers: Evie's family is wealthy but common and the Bowman sisters, Lillian and Daisy, are American and a bit too rough around the edges. They're only accepted at all into society because their father is very rich. The four become fast friends and the husband hunting begins with Annabelle's plight, since she is oldest.

The story of the girls' friendship is given more ink than the usual romance novel drivel, which is a huge plus. The girls are funny and real and I hope Kleypas realizes, through the next three books, that the romance isn't nearly as interesting as they are and keeps them centerstage. Simon and Annabelle don't follow the standard romance novel pattern too closely, either, with no other man/woman thrown between them and no major misunderstandings to muddy up the romance. That alone makes this one worthy of a quick read.

4 out of 5 stars One Terrific Read!.......2007-08-24

This story was so beautiful. I love the entire wallflower series, I only wished I'd read them in order! Once again Kleypas has outdid herself.

3 out of 5 stars Kind of bland.......2007-08-21

I'm glad I didn't read this book, the beginning of the Wallflower series, first otherwise, I might not have read the other three. This book is a very slow start to an otherwise entertaining series. It Happened One Autumn is good, The Devil in Winter is amazingly written and Scandal in Spring is extremely entertaining. However, as much as I didn't really enjoy Simon and Annabelle's story, I did enjoy reading about them in the following books. All in all, a good series and if you've read this one first and didn't care for it, don't let it stop you from reading the following books. They're much, much better.

1 out of 5 stars Why, oh why, did I waste my money on this?.......1999-12-05

I wish I'd bought the Bradygames book first. This book was totally inaccurate; it was obviously based on the Japanese game. Sell it in Japan, then, because we don't need it here. What few maps there were were terrible, and there was no real walkthrough. He just told you what to do in each zone, and they weren't even in any discernible order! There were no special item lists whatsoever, or much help on where to find them (not that that would have helped, since he gave all the wrong names for the items). I liked how he described one set of dialogue as "Richter's girlfriend says something that sounds important." Obviously, he never played the American version. A picture is worth a thousand words, and there were so painfully few pictures that it became a chore to look up something in the strategy guide. That makes this book almost totally worthless. Zero stars.

2 out of 5 stars Just doesn't work out........1999-07-15

Okay, lot of problems kept me from buying this one.

1: What little pictures there are are black and white. 2: The details barely skim the surface. It doesn't do the game any justice. 3: It tells you how to beat the game. Period. It doesn't tell you how and where to find every item, what every monster looks like and is located, and tells you nothing about the entire second quest of the game (Richter). 4: The strategy guide basically ruins the feel of Castlevania by telling you exactly where to go and then go there, thus beating the game as fast as you can. It says nothing about 'side-quests', that is, little extras they put in the game. I've clocked in at over 50 hours on this game alone, because the main idea in Castlevania is to EXPLORE and try out new things, not run through, win, and throw the game in the closet. Overall, a disappointment.

5 out of 5 stars It was very helpful.......1999-05-03

It helped me get alot of the secrets in the game. And it gave me good ways to defeat some of the enemies.

    Book Description

This intimate account of 24 legendary groupies reveals what went on behind the closed doors of rock stars from Elvis to Marilyn Manson. Consisting of Pamela Des Barres's revealing interviews with and profiles of other supergroupies, this book offers firsthand glimpses into the backstage world of rock stars and the women who loved them. The groupies—such as Miss Japan Beautiful, who taught Elvis how to dance; Cassandra Peterson (Mistress of the Dark), who tangled with Tom Jones in Sin City; Cynthia Plaster Caster, who redefined the art of Jimi Hendrix; and Miss B., who revealed Kurt Cobain’s penchant for lip gloss—tell tales that go well beyond an account of a one-night stand to become a part of music history.

1 out of 5 stars Didnt even finish reading the book.......2007-09-16

I read Pamelas first book and enjoyed it. This one is a different story. Alot of these so called women are nothing but pure trash and they call themselves muses? A few and I mean a few seemed to have some class about them and an intriguing story. The absolute worst was Connie, there are no words to describe this person, just a downright pig and very proud of it. I expected something a little different, a little more classy. Dont waste your money. There are real muses like Pattie Boyd (who's book was great), Marianne Faithfull, Anita Pallenberg, Linda McCartney, etc. This book was a joke.

4 out of 5 stars I am a fan of Pam's and this book is pretty good.......2007-09-13

I prefer Pam's autobiographical stuff and her own sweet experiences but I enjoy her writing period so I'll give this a thumbs up. Some of the characters profiled were of interest but I found clearly there was a standard- and the book is set up so the older ( original groupies) are towards the front of the book. As we take the trip downward the reader starts to see the decline of the groupie, there simply is no naiivete or sweetness or joy that was part of Pamela's world, just grotesque hi -jinx and girls acting as prostitutes for free.kind of sad.Makes me nostalgic for "the good old days" of groupie-dom

5 out of 5 stars rock music muses, pam des barres.......2007-07-30

This is the third book I've read by Ms Des Barres. Funny and bittersweet as the other two I've read. I would highly recommend this book if you are a fan of this genre. Heck, even if you're not it's highly entertaining and a good read. These gals have some interesting tales to tell!!

4 out of 5 stars "I need you more then ever".......2007-07-23

    Angelique XStacy wrote:

A fun read, as are all of her books which inspired me not not atually "be with the band" but to be the band. I only wish I drew the awesome and dedicated groupies this book expounds upon. These are the folks that make playing the music great . Not just the sexual aspects, but the energy they give back to the artist, regardless of how it is chosen between the artist and groupie: an inpirating relationship between artist and the muses that inpire them. Pamala De Barres is one such person for me. having read her first book at a tender age, I longed to experience a time before the Aids crisis, before the 80's music culture of rehash. When things were new and exciting.
Miss Pamala has an easy going style, very approachable. Who cares about the name dropping , we are reading to hear the stories that make musicians a little more human,a little more like us. What someone who was there see's and not what was fabricated about the stars. I especially appreciated the addition of a male groupie, someone so rare!
I have always enjoyed her work , as history and as a not so guilty pleasure, her optimism is catching, thank goodness as we all wait for the next band or muse that inpires us to FEEL.

5 out of 5 stars Hooray for Miss P........2007-07-20

While reading Miss P.'s "I'm with the Band," I fell in love with the GTOs. I loved their brazen nutty bravado and performance art style. I silently wept as the tale unfolded and Miss Christine and Miss Mercy became mired in drug addiction. The GTOs seemed to epitomize a kind of proto-girl power in a far less commercial rock and roll world. I longed for their resurrection. I loved the humor and humanity of Miss P.'s recollections. So I was overjoyed when a good friend of mine sent me copy of "Let's spend the Night Together," autographed by none other than Miss P. herself. .

In terms of editorial decisions, I laud Miss Pam's inclusiveness. She has compiled tales of some very disparate characters. Some are tales of Girl meets Boy who happens to be rock star and the two fall in love. Others like Pleasant Gehman are wild scenesters. Others like Cassandra Peterson and Cynthia Plaster Caster are a clash of performance art meets rock meets more art. GTO fans will be pleased to note that Miss Mercy has been resurrected. Meanwhile, Bebe Buell strikes a note of dissonance with her dour, pious embrace of the word "muse." (Here the reader is forced to stick a finger down his or her throat.)

Of course, encounters with rock stars are the recurring "thread" that pulls this "groupie" narrative together. We get continuing snap shots of Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Iggy Pop and David Bowie, most prominently among others. Jimmy Page professing faithfulness to the pitifully dwarfed Lori Mattix. Jimmy Page stone-faced. Jimmy Page tearing at Cassandra Peterson. Robert Plant professes love to all and many & etc. These men have many incarnations in this book.

One issue that I sometimes have with these narratives is the lack of context. In terms of social consciousness, you'd barely know whether it was the sixties, the seventies or the eighties, which is why I laud Miss P.'s decision to include figures other than Bebe Buell and rock wives. Only through Miss Mercy, do we understand that the civil rights movement was going on at that time (although she admits to being less than conscious of it, except when having to duck down while driving through Southern streets with her paramours.) Through Sweet, pathological Connie, we get a taste of the wingnuts' pitiful, sleazy crusade against Clinton.

But I could waxforever on Miss P. So here I must end my review and say, "all in all, beautiful work, Miss P.!"

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Secrets of The Night.......2007-07-19

I think Jo Beverly is the top writer of victorian romance fiction. I f you like that type of book, you will love all of Jo Beverly's. Her series of the rogues (young men who organized themselves to help each other in prep school)is excellent.

3 out of 5 stars Brand's story is entertaining, but not quite as good as previous Malloren novels........2007-06-13

This romance deviates from traditional romance novel formulas. The heroine is more flawed than the hero. Rosamunde bears a scar on her face which she perceives as a hideous blemish. She married a much older man and lives apart from society in their country estate. Her husband's health is failing and there is no heir apparent. To save their estate, Rosamunde seduces a man she has rescued from the side of the road. Rosamunde knows her task is difficult, but is caught by surprise when she feels more than lust.

Brand Malloren succumbs to Rosamunde's seduction despite her refusal to unmask herself. He quickly develops strong feelings for his masked lover but is unable to convince her to run away with him.

There are several plot complications which keep the couple apart, but in the end it is all worked out.

The novel is entertaining, but not as quick-paced or lively as previous Malloren tales. If you are devoted to the series, it is a definite must read. If you are new to Jo Beverly's works, I suggest reading "Tempting Fortune" or "Something Wicked." I enjoyed them a little more.

    5 out of 5 stars Unselfish Sacrifices.......2007-06-13

As a 16 year old girl Lady Rosamunde Overton was injured and scarred in a carriage accident and out of pity, an aging Lord agrees to marry her. Now several years later, her husband's health is fading and his only heir is a severly religious stern man named Edmund who will turn everyone out and take the estate for his church. The only solution is an heir and Rosamunde's kind elderly husband suggests that she seek outside help in becoming pregnant. Her prayers are answered when she rescues Lord Brand Malloren after he is drugged and left in a ditch nearby their estate. She takes him to the dower house for discretion and then hides her face with a mask. After Brand comes to and they start talking he asks if there is anything he can do to repay her help for his rescue and she states that she would like to make love with him as she is married to an elderly man who cannot fulfil that wish. Brand complies and after a few days he starts falling in love with his gentle masked nurse and asks her to run away with him. Rosamunde has also fell in love with Brand but knows she will not turn her back on her husband or her duty, so with the help of her cousin Diana they drug him and leave him in a barn in a neighboring town. They then leave his brother a note on where to find him and what follows is a quest by Brand and his brother Rothgar to find the mysterious lady. They must also find out who tried to kill Brand and uncover an evil plot by a zealous religious sect to take over leadership of England. Rosamunde's knowledge that she can never be with Brand is softened by the fact that she will in fact have his child and save her people...if the facts aren't uncovered.

This is the fourth book in the series and I love how the author lets each sibling have their own distinct personality...Brand is sweeter, gentler than Rothgar but no less intriguing and sexy. You can fully understand what draws the women to the Malloren men. Great story. The next and final story is Rothgars and is called Devilish and I hope it is worthy as the ending book in the series.

3 out of 5 stars Old geezer mating with a 16 year old - not sexy........2006-06-23

It seems readers either really love Jo Beverley's writing or really dislike it. I seem to be in the latter category.

This book was decent - probably the best in the series. However, Brand was not my type of hero and was rather bland. I guess I prefer characters who are a bit spicier, sassier, and have much better sexual chemistry. As another reviewer says, this story is about two good people. I found it a bit dull, but I fully realize this is a matter of taste.

Jo Beverley's books are not very passionate. The characters always seem a bit cold and I never find a connection with any of them. Her books also contain ALOT of historical information, which is not necessarily bad. However, I find the amount she includes to be overwhelming and in the way of the romantic plot.

Her books are also very serious. There is no light-heartedness or humor. These are almost dark books, containing no whimsy or fun. Again, just a matter of taste...

And, as for Digby (the aforementioned geezer), it just grossed me out. Yeah, he was supposedly this nice guy, but he also had sexual relations with a frightened 16 year old girl. Perhaps this was normal in the 1760's, but I simply don't want to hear about it. Yuck.

    5 out of 5 stars love it.......2005-12-09

This is my favourite Malloren book so far! I am really in love with Brand. I knew I would like his story just from the bits and pieces I got of him in the other stories. I laughed, teared up a bit, and somehow everything worked itself out.

Rosamunde is a delightful heroine you can get behind and Brand is so deliciously sexy. Like the hot guy with the awesome personality.
I am happy to have bought this book and can not wait until Bey and Diana's story arrives in the mail!

    Book Description

    When you can't sleep,

    there's always NIGHTS.

It all started with Lewis and Jamie. They were sneaking out late at night to be together. Then their friends started joining in. First at the old burned-down Fear Mansion. Later at the local bar Nights.

They called themselves the Night People. And they carefully protected their secret world. No parents, no work, no stress. Just chilling with friends in their own private after-hours club.

But then the nights turned dark. Unexplainable accidents, evil pranks...and then, later, the killings. The Night People know they have to stop the horror all by themselves, or else they risk exposure -- not to mention their lives.

Things go bump in the Night....

5 out of 5 stars Stine Returns With A Thrilling Trilogy.......2005-11-16

Lewis and Jamie just wanted some time to be alone in-between working hard in school, college applications, and after-school jobs. So the two seniors snuck out together. Each night, after their parents went to sleep, a little after midnight, they would head out. Then the trend caught on. Soon, Lewis and Jamie weren't the only teens sneaking out at night. First, they went to the old burned-down Fear Mansion, where rats and spiders were found in groups, but it didn't bother them much. Then the Fear Mansion was turned down, and the gang started hanging out at a new bar called Nights - built on top of the Fear Mansion. They were the Night People. But Jamie and Lewis, they remember the crazy stuff that happened, the stuff that caused them to be left back, and repeat Senior year, and leave them in the hospital for months. They all just wanted to have a good time, and hang out with their friends with no parents around to interfere with them. But then the nights turned bleak. Accidents began to happen, pranks gone wrong, and death. Now the Night People must find out the truth, before their secret is exposed.

I have been a fan of R.L. Stine since I was 6-years-old, and have loved everything that he's ever penned. Though MOONLIGHT SECRETS, and the FEAR STREET NIGHTS series, in general, has got to be one of my favorite trilogies by him. Jamie and Lewis are eerie characters, whose cryptic memories of that night at the Fear Mansion send shivers up your spine, while many of the other characters - Shark, Nate, Candy - each possess their own strange quirks. Narrated by Nate, MOONLIGHT SECRETS is a fabulous novel, and sets the groundwork for its sequels MIDNIGHT GAMES and DARKEST DAWN.

    4 out of 5 stars Moonlight Secrets.......2005-08-03

Well, I thought that Moonlight Secrets would have been better but it was good. When Candy always used to rub the stone I thought that she would have been doing all that stuff. When ever things used to happen she will be rubbing it and saying words nobody can hear. When cockroaches came out of his mouth that was gross! But the ending was very shocking.Once I found out the stone was fake I was suprised. I will be reading Midnight Games to see what happened.

2 out of 5 stars Not the Fear Street I would have expected..........2005-07-09

The Fear Street series ended with Stine's ambitious 12-part Seniors series back in 1999. That was six years ago. Though it was an interesting and promising undertaking on his part, it finished off with a somewhat disappointing conclusion, like if he was just interested in wrapping it up by that point. I've been a fan of his books since I was in grade school and so having that sort of ending as a "series finale" of sorts made the following absence of newly-written Fear Street books a little difficult to take. When I learned Stine was returning to Fear Street with a new three-part miniseries, I was curious about how a half-decade absence would benefit or hurt the series. Unfortunately, this book seems to hurt more than benefit.

The first thing that surprised me in a positive way comes early in the novel and is relevant to the story: Fear Mansion is finally being torn down to make way for a new shopping center to revitalize the neighborhood. Simply doing this impressed me because not only does it show that Stine is willing to change something about the series in a major way, but also because it makes sense for the place to be torn down after so long. In a way it brings an appropriate sense of closure to all that came before while at the same time promising something new. As one of the characters says, in a line I'm sure has to be self-referential of the book itself, this isn't the old Fear Street. Sure enough, Stine peppers the book with throwaway references of the digital lifestyle of teenagers, ranging from computer programs to Internet-based chat, things that weren't so much in the popular culture during the run of the original series. I liked this because it felt real and suggests Stine has an idea of what teenagers do nowadays, though this may have just pleased me since he's talking about things I like. Despite these things, this one proves to be one of the worst, if not the worst, Fear Street book I've come across.

The plot (what little there is) is basic Stine fare: teenagers disturb something Fear-related and bad, supernatural things start to happen soon after. Nothing wrong with that since it's a staple of the series. The kids call themselves the Night People, and they sneak out at night to escape pressures of school and such and hang out together at the new local bar, Nights, which was built where Fear Mansion used to stand. Said pressures are never indicated so essentially they're just doing it for fun. The story revolves around the three characters Nate, Shark and Candy, and though there are several other characters as well mostly everything revolves around Candy vs. the two boys due to a series of awful pranks played out. Though it isn't expected of Stine to write up characterizations beyond one-dimension, this book proves you can do worse. You will be very lucky to get physical descriptions at all, and the one main example of that has to be a description of a supporting character that contributed nothing to the story besides being there. Even worse, characters are together for the sake of being together. There's no reasoning behind their relationships and nothing to support them except for the fact that Shark and Candy hate each other. That just makes the whole point that these are teens going out and drinking at a bar every night feel tacked on. Also, when one character flat-out reveals their attraction to Nate, you don't know why it happened or why we should care because it feels like Stine needed a few extra paragraphs to pad things out. Yes, it's likely these things will be picked up again and set up the next two books, but the way they're handled here is seriously poor. It's like R.L. Stine submitted a rough draft outline to a book AS a book and I don't understand how his editor let this pass.

The dialogue is worse than any Stine has come up with before, and when taken into the context of certain situations it's downright embarrassing. Detailed descriptions are slim and this disappoints me when looking back at his earliest Fear Street books, where he placed emphasis on detailing the settings and delivering some mood. The book is more dialogue than description. Over the years I've noticed Stine's writing style become more simplistic and quick, most likely due to the demanding schedule of multiple series going on at the same time. But it's been six years since the last Fear Street. I would have expected him to have gotten better or made an effort to deliver something better for his return. The thing that upset me most was that though the book summary says the danger gets amped up when the "killings" begin, only one death occurs and the reaction to it from a supporting character is so stupid because it lacks any logical, emotive punch, especially when you consider just why that particular death occurs. The rest goes for the others involved because it's too unrealistic, like the consequence doesn't register to either the characters or the writer. You don't even get the sense they're concerned about their night lives becoming exposed, so not only are the reasons to going out not really discussed but the urgency to keep it a secret is hardly there at all.

The biggest violation is the fact that by the end of the book you don't know what's going on or who/what the enemy is, and this isn't acceptable for the first book in a trilogy. The book isn't even a stand-alone, it acts like it's expecting you to come back and read the next one for the answers anyway and that isn't fair. Like with the Fear Street Cheerleaders or even Fear Park, there was a clear, self-contained story that offers a cliffhanger to draw you back, but at least they gave you some answers to what was going on during the first book. Here, it isn't the case and so it's just a bunch of disjointed events without resolution. On that note, the book does offer a lot of gruesome ideas in the classic Fear Street tradition, but I think only a fan would appreciate them after not having any new Fear Street in so long.

I understand that I've gotten older since the last Fear Street book came out and I look at things with a different perspective now, and that could account for how I felt with this book. However, as a fan and a reader I'd have expected him to return to the series with something worthwhile and with reasonable quality. As the first entry to a trilogy, it's a really bad one and a letdown. I'm willing to read the next book but the nostaligic factor isn't enough to give me confidence going in. I need to check-up on the other stand-alone novels he's been doing to confirm he still knows how to write.
