This was the book I used in my graduate consulting school in Arthur D. Little which was probably the most read of all my books, up to this time. I still used it as my reference now that I'm back here in Manila as a Financial executive and adopted it as my class textbook in my Strategic Management class.

3 out of 5 stars A Hunger Like No Other.......2007-09-19

Although I found this book to be enjoyable, it did not require or engage my entire attention. I was able to read it at work between calls and was able to keep up with what was happening. This book to me seemed to drag at times and at other times moved along. I am not yet certain if it is going to stay in my collection or be passed on. I have not yet started the second book in the series although I will read it and have purchased the third book. It just did not reach out and grab me.

4 out of 5 stars So So.......2007-09-14

I liked the start of the book but after a while it was a little fustrating. It took for ever for them to have sex. The theme was good and the charters are enjoyable. I think the charter Emma went a little overboard by playing really had to get. Took her for ever to come around. However, I still plan to read the rest of the series.

4 out of 5 stars Sexy, Daring, but Something's Missing.......2007-09-01

I could hardly put this book down, especially the spicy scenes, which were written perfectly! And the plot of the book was believeable, and well-written.

But when Emmaline and Lachlain finally come together, the book immedietly goes downhill. Even when they finally have sex, the scene is too short, and not nearly as descriptive as previous scene. From there on is just plot, we don't get any more sexy situations!

And perhaps this is just me, but Emmaline's Valkyrie family were the MOST obnoxious characters I have EVER read in a book. Their logic, tactics, and personalities were grating and flat.

However, I still give the book 4 stars because all other aspects were amazing, and I definitely intend to read more in the series!!!

5 out of 5 stars My first paranormal romance and ....I loved it!!.......2007-08-25

I usually read historical romances (medieval, Georgian, regency & Victorian), but the trend in romance seems to be going in the paranormal direction so I figured I'd give one a try. I was seriously afraid of what I call "rolling eyes syndrome" ; some things are just unbelievable and I was hoping that this wasn't going to be just a bad B-movie read.

I am so surprised! I love this book! It reminds of some of my fav Scottish romances, but MUCH more intense and WAY edgier/darker! The alpha male hero is totally hot Scottish highlander hunk (a real treat for this Julie Garwood fan) and the heroine is this a shy little thing who eventually turns into a kick a*s woman. There's werewolf's, vampire's, Valkyrie, witches, wraiths etc., and Cole (author) does a excellent job introducing and giving background information on each one of these. She does this so well that I became instantly engrossed in the book and simply couldn't put it down. There are tons of really cool secondary characters that each have their own unique powers and personally I can't wait for those sequels!

So if you like historical romance or contemporary for that matter, this is a great place to start checking out paranormals. As for me, I have a feeling this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous.......2007-08-20

This is a great book. The character's are so well developed. You really feel like you know these people.

Book Description

A bold manifesto by two business leaders, A Billion Bootstraps shows why microcredit is the world's most powerful poverty-fighting movement-and an unbeatable investment for your charitable donations.

A Billion Bootstraps unearths the roots of the microcredit revolution, revealing how the pioneering work of people such as Dr. Muhammad Yunus-winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize-is giving hope to billions. Philanthropist and self-made millionaire Phil Smith and microcredit expert and consultant Eric Thurman provide a riveting narrative that explores how these small loans, arranged by “barefoot bankers,” enable impoverished people to start small businesses, support their families, and improve local economies. By paying back their loans instead of simply accepting handouts, men and women around the world are continually giving others the same opportunity to change their futures.

Smith and Thurman also examine why traditional charity programs, while providing short-term relief, often perpetuate the problems they are trying to alleviate, and how applying investment principles to philanthropy is the key to reversing poverty permanently.

A Billion Bootstraps explains how ordinary people can accelerate the microcredit movement by investing charitable donations in specific programs and then leveraging those contributions so the net cost to lift one person out of poverty is remarkably low. You'll discover how to get more for your money by donating with the mind-set of an investor and calculating measurable returns-returns that will change lives and societies forever.

3 out of 5 stars Its an overview of what microcredit is but not how to start one .......2007-09-19

This is a good book in explaining what microcredit is and how to get involved, but not how to run a microcredit organization.

I preferred Mohammed Yunus (the noble prize winner) autobiography to this book it gave a better summary of what it is and explains how microcredit can work in the rural and inner city US which a Billion Bootstraps doubts can happen. In Yunus' book he demonstrates how microcredit has worked programs in urban Chicago and rural Arkansas.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to Microfinance.......2007-08-26

The book explains well the business model of microfinance, what works and what not. It provides a very good insight into this industry. The author has obviously broad experience.

5 out of 5 stars Required Reading for Those Who Seek to End Poverty.......2007-05-27

A Billion Bootstraps is potentially a world changing book. It describes the most effective way to end poverty that I've ever heard about. I had heard about micro loans -- before but didn't know how it worked or how powerful it can truly be. Many misguided people believe that giving people things is the answer to poverty, and sadly, that is rarely the case. Intuitively many of us have also realized this but never had a better way, never had an answer. Here's the answer and it's told and explained in a straigt forward and compelling way. I particulary enjoyed the stories of the lives that have been changed by micro loans, truly inspiring. My hat is off to Phil Smith and Eric Thurman for the fine work they have done in spreading the good word about the creative business solution to poverty. This is creative problem solving at it's finest. For more about creative problem solving, see: Jack's Notebook: A business novel about creative problem solving

5 out of 5 stars Powerfully motivating.......2007-04-16

The best way to attack poverty is through the use of sound economic principles. This book will inspire you to look at poverty, not as a hopeless problem, but as an opportunity to effect real change in the lives of individuals. By acting upon the lessons of this book, you can ignite the spark of personal industry in the lives of people who can then create lasting wealth for their families, communities, and countries; finally succeeding where "charity" had previously failed. Reading this book will show you how you truly can make a difference.

5 out of 5 stars enlightening read.......2007-04-15

A Billion Bootstraps changed the way I view charitable giving. Now instead of "giving to a charity," I am "investing in changing lives." What's more, I've learned to look for and expect accountability from the organizations which receive my money. Microcredit, which once seemed an esoteric concept, is now accessible to those of us who don't have business or economics degrees, thanks to Philip Smith and Eric Thurman. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to intelligently invest in changing lives of the poorest of the poor.

Book Description

Psychologist and professor Seth Roberts has spent years analyzing why most diets don't work. A maverick with a curious mind, and a yen for self-experimentation, he started by asking a simple question most experts haven't tackled: What makes us feel hungry in the first place?

After scouring the scientific literature and tirelessly testing various theories and practices, Roberts hit upon a simple, effective strategy for controlling the body's internal "set point"- that is, the thermostat that controls weight gain or loss. The solution was counterintuitive: By taking two daily servings of either extra-light olive oil or plain sugar water, he took control of his appetite, with astonishing results. Roberts lost thirty-five pounds in only three months, and he has kept it off for five years. Since then, others have replicated these results, and formal clinical trials will soon be under way.

With the publication of this unique and groundbreaking book, Seth Roberts's program will be available to anyone who wants to lose weight-a little or a lot-and keep it off. The Shangri-La Diet includes specific instructions for tailoring the program for individual needs and goals, as well as expert tips, variations, success stories, and an illuminating explanation of how Roberts devised the diet and why it works so well.

A diet program simple enough for anyone to try, The Shangri-La Diet has the potential to radically change the way we think about weight loss-and deliver remarkably easy, sustainable results.

5 out of 5 stars A different approach to body weight.......2007-09-22

I liked the idea of being able to use my body's set point to finding the amount of weight I should be carrying.
I started using the method as described and found that I immediately lost most cravings for sweets. I have been successful in losing the recommended 2-pounds per week for the last 3-weeks without changing my breakfast or dinners. I am barely hungry at lunch and eat very little if any. Yet, when I sit down for dinner, I can't recall being 'hungry.'

3 out of 5 stars I wish it worked..........2007-09-06

An interesting book and theory...but sadly, it hasn't helped me at all despite following the methods faithfully for over 1 month. I understand others have had success, but for me it was basically just another fad diet that crashed and burned. Wonder why it works for some people but not others...does the theory explain that??

5 out of 5 stars Definately some interesting theories.......2007-06-27

I always find people to have extreme ideas abaout loosing weight. Diets that cut out entire foodgroups are simly not healthy, sure you might loose a lot of weight very fast, but your body will adjust and you'll have to build it down so slowly that you might get negative effects because of shortage of certain food elements.
Anyway, this book actually surprised me, taking oil and or sugarwater does lower your setpoint, it's been proven, and more importantly, it's very healthy. But of course, there is the issue that as soon as you stop you'll gain wait again, so you need to take it down very slowly, which can be difficult and annoying.
On the other hand, Seth Roberts has some very interesting and true theories he mentions in his book. One of the most helpful ones for me was the fact that new tastes make you feel full faster than familier ones, so making food yourself at home and putting a lot of variation in your cooking will result in less hunger, which (normally) means losing weight. This is also why fast food and snacks are so fatning, they don't fill you up, so you eat more.
Unfortunately, there's also that thing called emotional eating, for which there is not yet a commen "cure"
I'm not going to give away the entire book, but believe me there are a whole lot of other valid points he makes.
I do want to say one thing about the review written earlier by another guy named John. Seth does not claim that excersize doesn't help you lose weight, we all understand that people who excersize like crazy burn more calories. What he says is that the reason we're all fatter than 50 years ago is not because of lack of excersize, in fact, 50 years ago, people excersized a lot less, some didn't even at all, yet they were skinnier than we are now. So he just says that people getting fatter isn't because we sport less, but that it has more to do with our eating habits.
All in all, this book was a great help to me losing weight and understanding more about eating. Thank you Seth Roberts!

2 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me.......2007-06-26

I thought it was an interesting and somewhat plausible theory. I did it for two months (canola oil in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon) but after a couple of pounds it did me no good whatsoever. Your mileage may vary, of course.

4 out of 5 stars It works If you also watch what you eat.......2007-06-19

I found it help but not the total answer.

Book Description

Do you want to make a true difference in the world? Dr. Ron Sider does. He has, since before he first published Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger in 1978. Despite a dramatic reduction in world hunger since then, 34,000 children still die daily of starvation and preventable disease, and 1.3 billion people, worldwide, remain in abject poverty. So, the professor of theology went back to re-examine the issues by twenty-first century standards. Finding that Conservatives blame morally reprehensible individual choices, and Liberals blame constrictive social and economic policy, Dr. Sider finds himself agreeing with both sides. In this new look at an age-old problem, he offers not only a detailed explanation of the causes, but also a comprehensive series of practical solutions, in the hopes that Christians like him will choose to make a difference.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Jobs not Charity.......2007-09-17

This is one-sided and economically naive book. I shudder to think how any thinking Christian could not see through Sider's facile presentation of Christians social ethics. Please see David Chilton's "Productive Christians in an Age of Guilt Manipulators" for a chapter by chapter Biblical and economic refutation of Sider's work.

In a nutshell, while charity may help the giver develop some virtues, it is virtually useless in terms of actually helping the recipient (the poor). The best way to help the poor is to give them work, not charity, and that only happens through uncoerced free market investments and entrepeneurship.

4 out of 5 stars As balanced as I can be..........2007-01-27

As a reformed evangelical, and a moderate-conservative democrat, who has read a great deal of Sider, and heard him speak on multiple occasions, I will say this: Do read this book. That's not to say that Sider doesn't, on a number of occasions, go too far, distort the numbers, and even come dangerously close to Socialism (though, I imagine some of this has been revised in later editions - his views have changed somewhat over the years) - he does. But the core of this book is indeed life-changing: a impassioned, Evangelical challenge to our modern-day consumerism. My suggestion, however, after having read this book is to also pick up the absolutely solid (though not as easy to read) "Neither Poverty nor Riches" by Craig Blomberg - a thorough-going Biblical theology of material possessions & wealth. Combined, the challenge of Sider, balanced with the solid Biblical understanding of Blomberg, and any believer will walk away with a full-orbed, Scriptural, understanding of what I believe God would have us do with our possessions.

1 out of 5 stars Marxist nonsense.......2006-12-04

Years ago in 1982,at least I believe it was 1982, a friend of mine who went to the same Church that I did approached me about this book. I was working for a high end retail store at the time which was located in a very high end mall in Southern California working in undercover security. So I was use to being around very wealthy people on a daily basis. My friend at the time began to really lay it on pretty thick in that Christians had absolutely no business driving Porches or Mercedes or should really own homes that are anything more then either very nominal or just slightly above shacks. He told me about this book and advised me to read it. Well I did read it and was convinced immediately that I was living wrong and that I needed to start giving most of my paycheck to the poor after I payed for my living expenses. I became convinced that my living expenses were too high and that I should cut off many things, like going to the movies, buying new shoes unless it was absolutely necessary, which would be almost never. I really believed at one time that one could not be a Christian and own a Mercedes Benz. I really believed it was a sin to be wealty. However I did believe that Christians should make as much money as they could and give the majority of it away to the poor. At one point I headed a study at the Church that I was attending at the time regarding this book and it definately caused some upset and a stir. Fortunately this was a relatively short period of my life because I came to see this book and its author for what they are. And that is Marxist and pure Marxist junk. I found that this book is not biblical. One only has to read the New Testament to see that this book is complete nonsense. Example Joseph of Arimithea was called a friend of Jesus and he was also wealthy. Not once did Jesus tell him to give all of his money to the poor. Ronald Sider uses the story of the rich man who Jesus said to sell all he had and give to the poor and follow Him. Ronald Sider is so hung-up on his own presupposition of wealth distribution that he misses the point of the story entirely. This book could have done some real damage to my life had I not seen it for what it was early on. Mr. Sider is a liberal as so is Anthony Campola . I wish these guys would take a hike and go peddle their junk to someone else and leave the Christian community alone, we have enough wolves already.

I give this book 1 star because there are no negative ratings. This book is junk and I eventually used it for my cat box.

5 out of 5 stars Do Not Read This Book.......2006-11-21

unless you are willing to live in a completely un-American manner. If you are like most conservative evangelicals, such as myself, this book will rock the very foundations of your beliefs. This book references, in great detail, the Biblical premise of helping the poor. Consumerism, materialism and oppressive systems hinder us from our calling. Will we choose the ways of the world or will we choose eternal life? Which side of eternity will we be found in when Jesus returns as he states in Matthew 25:31-46? Being born again is a necessary, initial step to salvation. It allows and motivates us to begin the work of the Gospel. This book explains what that work is.

4 out of 5 stars True Christian's Give .......2006-10-31

Giving Christianity
The book makes the case that true Christianity is giving. I found the book well written because it made the case that Christianity needs to actually be helpful.
Christianity should not be used as and excuse to feel superior to everyone, it is for giving as the book states.

For most Americans weight = quality of life. We all have a compelling desire:
a) To feel vital and energetic
b) To feel attractive and desirable
c) To be able to participate in whatever activities we want
d) To feel secure that our physical profile is healthy

Yet despite the fact that 52 million Americans are on a diet, they invest $40 billion/year in diet products, and run up a $110 billion annual tab in health related costs, 2 out of 3 Americans are considered overweight. The End of Diets offers:

#1 An analysis of why, for an emotional eater, traditional weight loss approaches, such as exercise, diets, external motivation, and will power, are conclusively ineffective. This analysis explains why only 3% of anyone that attempts a traditional weight loss approach is successful in keeping the weight off long-term.

#2 - A thorough explanation of how an emotional eater uses food to deal with the ups and downs of life.

#3 - Insight into how emotions are process in the body.

#4 - An explanation of the top emotions that lead to overeating.

#5 - Explanations of how emotional eaters must first learn to be with their emotions instead of eating through them, before they can be successful in losing weight permanently.

#6 - Useful tools for emotional eaters to stop using food to cope with the ups and downs of life:
a) Understand how food is used as a repression mechanism to avoid our emotions

4 out of 5 stars Excellent content needs serious editing.......2007-09-10

I got a lot from de la Altagracia's heartfelt guide to healing emotional eating, both as a professional counselor and on a personal level. It is a shame that this book suffers from a lack of editing with grammatical errors and awkward phrasing throughout.
Some of the author's suggestions are familiar and one could dismiss this book as nothing new, however de la Altagracia brings a deeply felt commitment to her process of healing the pattern of "eating through emotions". She succeeds in engaging the reader on a personal, not just intellectual level.
I appreciate the integration of body-awareness and body work into the book's program. The author's approach synthesizes cognitive, emotional, and body-centered methods into a multi-modal strategy. She also provides a simplified explanation of the myriad of diet options currently vying for attention.
De la Altagracia emphasizes the life-long nature of the healing journey, instilling hope and realism.

5 out of 5 stars finally someone looks past the food.......2007-04-17

when i first started to read this book i felt it was going to be someone's success story and that if you did this and that it would work. luckily i kept going past my judgement and allowed myself to hear my excuses and my fears and my past wanting me to stay fat, that has allowed me to stop dieting and just start being, not doing anything but slowly allowing myself to just sit with myself and learn about myself that i wasn't willing to look at and love before. i don't think i will lose weight quickly, but i think i will finally be able to have a balanced control over food.

4 out of 5 stars useful, but...........2007-03-31

This spring I read a number of books on emotional eating and thought this book dealt well with the problem, but less so with solution. Then I found The truth about addiction and recovery, by Stanton Peele and Archie Brodsky in my local library and bingo! It helped me both to understand the problem, the triggers and to design solutions. In other words, it enabled me to custom tailor my life in a way of which I can be proud. Most of all, it was illuminating to get away from the "disease" (think Alcoholics Anonymous) model of addiction. A very hopeful book and I recommend it highly.

5 out of 5 stars I loved this book!.......2006-11-26

This book is highly recommended for anyone struggling with any type of eating disorder, whether it be anorexia, bulimia, compulsive eating or whatever. I read this book and re-read it again because it was so wonderful. There are no 'magic cures' offered in the book. Instead, it offers hope for those of us who are emotional eaters. Reason why we 'emotionally eat' are discussed, as are many different types of dealing with emotional hunger. There are a lot of books available that discuss eating disorders and emotional eating, but this is one of the best. I cannot recommend this book enough!

5 out of 5 stars This book is priceless.......2006-11-26

I haven't even read it all the way through and it's already changing my life. It's teaching me how to be happy with myself and breaking it all down in a logical way that's very applicable. Not easy, but that's the nature of emotions and growth. It struck a deep chord with me, and I'm so thankful the author wrote a book about what she's learned. It has been a while, since I've felt this way... and it's a process, but worth it. I'm probably would've killed myself with diet pills otherwise.

4 out of 5 stars Already within the text.......2007-01-09

All cases in this book are already within the hardcover text. I wasted my money. The actual cases within this text are great ones though, because they really require the reader to think about several aspects of business.

4 out of 5 stars Text Book.......2005-08-18

This was a text book assigned to a class in graduate school. I found it informative with how companies develop strategic plans, and how these plans may change.

When writing case studies, this book provided me with much insight on how business, boardrooms, senior management, and all company employees contribute their part to operating a successful company.

5 out of 5 stars Common sense for those that know business concepts well..........2004-06-02

Although one may learn new terms, most of the concepts laid out in this book are fairly common sense, if you've had any type of job in your life where you had to do payroll, forcast sales, or any other "strategic" processes of doing business. This is not to talk down at the book....it is an excellent book that covers the topic(s) that it set out to quite well. In the real business world, you would always try to figure out the most cost effective way to increase profits, decrease costs, and simultaneously maintain workplace efficiency. I didn't really need a textbook to tell me that.

I originally bought this book on the advice of bain4weeks.com which recommended this as the text of choice to successfully test out of the Excelsior College Exam ECE Business Policy and Strategy. While I merely scanned through a few of the pages, I ended up getting a "B" on what was supposed to the the "capstone" business degree class. The test was all essay response, which made it sound hard, but to be honest, it was probably one of the easiest tests I've taken. It took all 3 hours, but it was kind of hard to fail that exam. AS LONG AS you put something down for an answer, and it made sense to the senario. It was very open-response and more or less asked for your opinion on the best way to solve the particular case study.

I strongly recommend anyone wishing to get 3 required upper level semester credits in Business Policy/Strategy to register NOW for that ECE exam; it will be discontinued in Sept 2004. Grab the Strategic Management book if you feel you'll need a good review of what would be unfamiliar business concepts for you. TECEP does have a version of the Business Policy test as well . But I'd try to take the Excelsior version while I can. outlines the whole credit-by-examination process and how to finish your degree a lot faster.

5 out of 5 stars See your business as an integrated whole.......1999-08-12

I originally used an older version of this book in 1991 when I took Wheelen's class "Strategic Management and Business Policy". The value of this book is Wheelen's methods of taking all the parts of a business and integrating them into a workable whole--the physical tool to enable such a transformation is the strategic business plan. I was only 20 when I read this book, and I was awestruck.

This was the most valuable book I read in college.

Concept is good, jury will be out until I actually have time to follow the plan.

5 out of 5 stars very interesting theory.......2007-01-14

The book is based on not providing too many flavors at one time as your system then wants to satisfy all four taste senses, salt, sweet, sweet, bitter. I enjoyed reading it and have somewhat practiced it. My friend has lost 68 pounds so far and is still going. I didn't do that good, but dropped 8 so far. I am now doing YOU on a diet. It's not that much different, in my opinion. Good luck. I know from seeing it done that it does work and work well.

5 out of 5 stars The Flavor Point Diet.......2006-06-01

I started the flavor point diet 32 days ago, and it has changed my life. I Love the food and the results. I do have a few questions now that I am about to begin phase II. Surprisingly, the only thing I seem to miss on the diet is spicy food. Perhaps that is just a matter of getting used to, but will I ever be able to add Tabasco sauce, chili peppers or strong curries?

I intend to stay with this diet even if the answer is no.

As a Special Education teacher at a economically depressed Middle School in Sacramento, CA; & it's been very exciting to have my students recognize the changes. We, like most schools in America, have a large population of obese children. I intend to try to set up a program, to educate our students. Your excellent web site at www.davidkatzmd.com is exactly the tool I need to make the program both interesting and enticing.
Regards, JoAnn Bauman

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Recipes!.......2006-05-12

I was mostly interested in the THEORY of limiting flavors to aid in weight loss and management, so when I saw that half the book was devoted to recipes, I was somewhat disappointed.

However, after trying just a few of the main course dishes, THIS IS NOW MY FAVORITE RECIPE BOOK! Each meal has wonderful flavors and textures, are beautiful and quick to make, and I had most of the ingredients on hand already (that which I did not were easy and inexpensive to obtain). I haven't been as enchanted with the breakfast and lunch menus, but I feel I've already gotten my money's worth many times over with the dinner meals. Roasted Currant Chicken and the Mexican Stuffed Peppers were two of our hands-down favorites. Fits with many diet strategies, too.

Highly recommend, both for the theory AND the recipes!

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy this book if you like meat!!.......2006-04-16

First, I want to say that this is another book that tells you how to eat healthy. Many of us who are overweight know how to eat healthy - we just don't do it. We are addicted to our ice cream, sodas, sugar, etc. Forget buying this book if you & your family like beef, pork, lamb, veal, etc. On this "way of eating" you are allowed chicken, turkey & fish. (Most of the people in my family are not fish eaters, including me, and especially talapia, which is the fish that is recommended in the recipe section of the book. Talapia tastes like dirt to me.) Therefore, if I were to follow the instructions, I'd be serving only chicken & turkey. Dr. Katz's research seems sound, and I agree that the food industry has succeeded in "addicting" us to sugar and over-processed foods. I intend to try some of the recipes (they look pretty good) and I also intend to cut the junk food out of my diet. I've already cut out white bread. Dr. Katz says that our appetites are lulled by flavor consistency. So his theory is that if you eat the same flavor during the day, your brain will turn off the hunger and you will be satiated. So, the first day you incorporate raisins & currants into your meals, the next day, apples, the next, pineapple, and so on. I really would have tried it, but my family likes other things besides chicken & turkey!!

4 out of 5 stars Good Summary of Strategic Management .......2007-10-11

Short book, but to the point. Easy to read. Good data summaries, good ideas applicable to the modern work world and management. Nice focus on assessment and creation of solutions for both non-profit and for-profit entities.

5 out of 5 stars Brief and to the Point.......2007-10-01

Business executives, like many professionals, are wary of all the garbage that poses as valid information. They need to cut through the noise to get the real meat, and they don't have a lot of time to wade through extraneous space-filling material that does not contribute to what they need to know.

The authors get right into content. They concisely but comprehensively, step-by-step, explain the strategic management process and techniques. No wasted time here. While based on rigorous research, the writing is succinct and thus making it a useful book for the busy executive who needs a comprehensive, useful and practical textbook to guide him/her in strategic decision making. It's a good business approach.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for All Leaders.......1999-03-08

Having this be a required book in a recent doctoral course on leadership, I was plesantly surprised by the content. This book should be required reading for all who are interested in strategic management, organizational change, and the future of business and industry. The examples are right-on, useful, and very meaningful. Anyone interested in environmental and internal scanning for an organization can use the simple model provided in the book. I would say this is one of the best books I have ever read on this subject.
