In all the world, no man exists who can tame Alexandra Rubilov. A fiery and beautiful free–thinker, Alex's steadfast refusal to marry has frustrated her hapless father. Dismayed to find himself suddenly engaged, Count Vasili Petroff plans to repulse his unwanted fiancee by acting the perfect cad, unaware that wily Alexandra plans to follow a similar path. But the road to deception is a rocky one and its many unexpected turns can lead two reluctant companions to a most unanticipated destination: that place called passionate love.

I really disliked this book and I am a big Johanna Lindsey fan.......2007-09-11
I was so surprised to see how many people rated this book with 5 stars. I have every one of Johanna Lindsey's books-a complete collection and I love them all except for "You Belong To Me." It was terrible and I agonized through the whole book trying to finish it. It was completely negative and they just simply fought the whole entire book. I didn't see the "sparks" between them at all. I can't believe I finished it. I can say the last chapter or two was pretty good, but the rest was just plain awful.
Vasili - OMG - what a sexy sexy sexy man!!!!!!!.......2007-08-10
I LOVED this book - of the ones of hers I've read, this is probably my favorite Johanna Lindsey so far.
The hero Vasili and the heroine Alexandra are perfect for one another. There was a lot of adventure in the story, and though they bickered quite a bit (trying to get one another to break off their betroval), I really liked them both and 'felt' for them because it was so obvious they belonged together. My favorite parts of the book were the last few chapters, when you really see their love grow. She is in denial up till almost the end. I loved that she got pregnant after only their first time. I loved that she was a take charge person, and that she would not let any woman stand between her & her man. I liked the jealousy in Vasili, but would like to have seen just a bit more of it than we did. I would also liked to have seen Christopher be at the ball when Vasili showed up, would like to have seen the look on his face when he realized the better & deserving man got Alexandra.
It's too bad that Lazar and Serge don't have their own books - I'd especially like to see Lazar in his own romance, he's such a sweet guy!
Worth Reading.......2007-07-27
My most favorite book. It was worth reading. Makes one want to read it over and over. Just abolute fantasy. Words cannot describe how great this book. I recommand everyone should read it.
You Belong To Me.......2007-05-09
This is a great book. Johanna Lindsey is a master storyteller and this one had a little of everything - great characters, romance, adventure.
I love it too..........2006-08-27

Much like the real-life Dr. Laura Schlessinger, Dr. Susan Chandler, the star of You Belong to Me, is a clinical psychologist who hosts a call-in radio show. She's bright, sharp-tongued, and even has "shoulder-length dark blonde hair." Fortunately for Dr. Laura, the similarities end there. During an episode of Ask Dr. Susan, Chandler unwittingly gets herself tangled in the web of a dangerous serial killer. It begins innocently enough when Chandler invites Dr. Donald Richards, a criminologist/psychiatrist/author to talk about his book, Vanishing Women and the plight of lonely women who are preyed upon by calculating killers. Chandler is particularly interested in the disappearance of woman named Regina Clausen, a high-profile investment advisor who vanished on a luxury cruise. Chandler feels indebted to Clausen--an investing tip she offered on CNBC turned a modest birthday check into a "bonanza"--so the good doctor uses her radio forum to help crack the case. Sure enough, during the last moments of the show, a nervous, married woman who goes by the name "Karen" calls in with invaluable clues. Apparently, she was almost a victim and can identify the murderer, but is frightened to come forward because of an insanely jealous husband. As Dr. Susan pursues her timid witness and digs deeper into the case, she realizes a hair too late that she is also one of the hunted. The fast-moving story line and easily digestible plot of You Belong to Me is vintage Mary Higgins Clark. --Rebekah Warren
Book Description
In this breathtaking new novel from the reigning diva of suspense, a psychopathic killer stalks lonely women aboard cruise ships -- giving grisly new significance to the lyrics of an old sweet song...
When psychologist Dr. Susan Chandler uses her call-in radio show to explore the issue of lonesome women who disappear and are later found to have been victims of seductive killers, she has no way of knowing she is exposing herself -- and those closest to her -- to the very horror she is warning others against.
After a listener calls in offering information about the mysterious disappearance from a luxury ocean liner of wealthy investment advisor Regina Clausen, the caller meets with a terrible accident. Or so say the police. As Susan begins to investigate, she quickly finds herself in a race against time -- and an assassin who targets not only vulnerable women, but anyone who might offer clues to his identity. Inching closer to the truth, Susan makes shocking dual discoveries: that the killer may be an important figure in her own life, and that she herself is marked for murder.
As unpredictable as it is daring, You Belong To Me delivers a series of electrifying jolts as Mary Higgins Clark makes yet another brilliant entry in the annals of classic suspense.

A killer who targets lonely women on cruise ships is at the center of Mary Higgins Clark's newest thriller "You Belong to Me", a masterful combination of page-turning suspense and classic mystery. When Dr. Susan Chandler decides to use her daily radio talk show to explore the phenomenon of women who disappear and are later found to have become victims of killers who prey on the lonely and insecure, she has no idea that she is exposing herself-- and those closest to her-- to the very terror that she hopes to warn others against. Susan sets out to determine who is responsible for an attempt on the life of a woman who called in to the show offering information on the mysterious disappearance from a cruise ship, years before, of Regina Clausen, a wealthy investment advisor. Soon Susan finds herself in a race against time, for not only does the killer stalk these lonely women, but he seems intent on eliminating anyone who can possibly further Susan's investigation. As her search intensifies, Susan finds herself confronted with the realization that one of the men who have become important figures in her life might actually be the killer. And as she gets closer to uncovering his identity, she realizes almost too late that the hunter has become the hunted, and that she herself is marked for murder. In its review of her previous novel "Pretend You Don't See Her", the Detroit News said of Mary Higgins Clark, "What's amazing... is how expertly she manages to keep us hooked time after time, and even better, create new plots, each as fresh as a mountain stream". "You Belong to Me" is Mary Higgins Clark at her thrilling best.

Clark Brings Suspense Again.......2007-05-30
Like most of Mary Higgens Clark's books, they're full of suspense and surprise. In, "You Belong To Me", Clark writes about a young radio talk show psychiatrist named, Dr. Susan Chandler, who explores a mystery that is occuring on cruise ships.
Throughout this thrilling novel, Clark introduces many characters which gives supporting background to all of the events in the book. At times the writing seemed a little too simple, but Clark still kept the tone sophisticated enough to make it seem more challenging.
Overall Clark keeps you interested until the very end. If you are a fan of past books written by Clark then you will for sure enjoy this delightful thriller as well.
A good read.......2007-01-12
Not a bad book, the bad guy is not obvious until the end. A bit contrived, but not bad.
Three Possible Villains... Who Cares!.......2006-07-13
I keep saying I'm not reading any more books by Mary Higgins Clark, but I can't resist picking up the next one. When will I learn??? She is hit or miss with the quality of her stories recently and it's getting to be very frustrating!
YOU BELONG TO ME centers on Dr. Susan Chandler who is a clinical psychologist and host of a morning call-in radio station. She has quite a following and deals with a variety of topics. The radio show that starts her troubles is her interview of Dr. Donald Richards, a psychiatrist and author of a bestselling book, Vanishing Women dealing with lonely women who have disappeared. During his visit on the show, Susan brings up the disappearance of an acquaintance, Regina Clausen. Seems Regina disappeared several years before on a cruise ship. The questions raised are heard by the killer who realizes he must silence Susan and others before his identity is found out.
Higgins Clark writes the story identifying three possible villains. These include Donald Richards (the author), a wealthy philanthropist (Alex Wright), and a sly lawyer (Douglas Layton). Each is under developed and two of the three pursue a romantic interest in Susan. To be perfectly honest, if all of her dates were that mundane, she should give up the dating scene. Talk about a boring life! She's suspicious of each of them but the reader is never told why she has strange feelings and cannot trust or be comfortable around any of them. Leaving it at that is a bit of a let down and made me bored with the entire story.
Susan Chandler was well developed, but her family which were the biggest group of support cast, were almost strangers to the reader. Her sister Dee is mentioned and a few pages have their relationship glossed over. Her parents and step mother are also given a few pages and again nothing pertinent comes out of it. If they are so important to the story, then Ms. Clark should definitely spend a little time letting us get to know what makes them tick!
As for the story line itself, it leaves a lot to be desired. The three possible scoundrels were so dull that I couldn't care less which one was actually the serial murderer. Even though I had figured it out from the beginning, it didn't matter when his identity was revealed. There were no twists or turns with any meat for the reader to bite into; there was only endless dribble about boring dinner dates and family squabbles.
A professional reviewer stated "The fast-moving story line and easily digestible plot of YOU BELONG TO ME is vintage Mary Higgins Clark." I have to disagree completely. Vintage Mary Higgins Clark has much more to offer than 317 pages of a boring and unexciting story line.
Don't Forget, You Belong To Me..........2006-06-19
This is one of her best. The title appealed to me because I remember watching Gizelle MacKenzie perform this song, 'You Belong To Me' on YOUR HIT PARADE on t.v. while Dorothy Collins pretended to be Rosemary singing 'Come On To My House.' This cruise was not going to the Nile ("See the pyramids....").
Did you ever dream of meeting someone special on a cruise ship? Not I, as I am not a swimmer, I would never take a chance on someone throwing me overboard. Well, you almost had your chance. He had been tooted to be a host on one to Alaska in July of this year but plans were changed. A few years back, he and his dual personna got together to charm the old ladies on one. He didn't have to pursue the lonely rich women on board, just sit back and let them come to him. After all, for his age, he had that California look. He should -- he'd been there most of his life. And was used to old widows of "stars" long dead making plays toward him. Even Kitty Kallen (surely not her real name), the has-been singer acted like a comedian to get his attention at a luncheon for singers who in their elder years need financial aid. Doris Day will be next. Not Mr. Perfect, as she'd thought; he was definitely Mr. Wrong.
Regina disappeared and Karen gives clues to the person responsible on a talk show. The hostess of the program also knew the suspect. He was well known in L.A. and though her show was out of New York, she did not feel safe anymore. Sometimes a mild-mannered older man can turn into a ferocious predator with the right bait. Now, the cat-and-mouse game to catch him.
Others of her novels using songs as titles include 'Pretend You Don't See Her,' 'I'll Be Seeing You,' 'We'll Meet Again,' 'The Second Time Around,' and 'Let Me Call You Sweetheart.' Sharyn McCrumb uses Appalachian ballads for her novels but does not use the actual title for her book.

Riveting..........2007-03-31
I don't, as a habit, read a lot of true crime but when I do I usually look for something that Ann Rule has written. Her books have always been hard to put down, always good reads. 'You Belong to Me' is a really creepy story of a Florida Highway Patrolman who despises women in general yet seems completely obsessed with the two in his life--his wife and his mistress. His position of authority only makes this book that much scarier--to think that a cop would pull you over and then be able to do whatever he wanted to do and you would be completely helpless. But there were signs that he maybe was not on the up and up and even though some of his colleagues picked up on them, nothing was done. My heart goes out to the victim's family in this case. A riveting read yet absolutely disturbing.
First Story Great, Other Lack "Ummph".......2006-09-14
This was the first of Ann Rule's true crime books that I found myself skimming many of the pages.
Rule begins with the title story, You Belong To Me, about a Florida Highway Patrol officer who kills an innocent woman out of rage because his wife is divorcing him and his mistress is getting smart to his lying, cheating ways. It's really an amazing story and quite humorous, in a twisted way, that this highly commended officer should end up committing a series perverse acts and serious crimes.
After reading the good cop turned bad story, however, the others included simply leave a lot to be desired. I was very disappointed that one story was actually about a case that had been investigated as a murder but ended up only being a auto accident. Somewhat interesting....for Reader's Digest, maybe, but not a Ann Rule true cime book though.
Still take the time to read it. Just don't expect the same quality as Rule's other works.
A frightening tale for female motorists.......2006-05-01
The story of Tim Harris, Florida State Patrolman, is one of Ann Rule's most memorable characterizations. When he used a phoney traffic stop to meet his future wife as a young police officer, she was a young and naive teenager. For years he abused her and groomed her to be the perfect servile victim. Only when she discovered she had a rival for his attentions did she begin to rebel against his authority. Not only did Tim abuse his wife, he abused females on his beat, also. Ann Rule, who is very fond of law enforcement, would disagree with me, but I don't find it surprising that a control freak like Tim Harris would find law enforcement an appealing career, for after all it gave him the opportunity to pull over and intimidate female drivers and get paid for doing it. There was a very similar case in California, a respected state trooper who liked to pull over attractive young female drivers on a deserted highway off-ramp. There were complaints about the California officer also, but the good old boys network shelters these abusers until they finally go all the way and actually commit murder. This book is Volume 2 of "Ann Rule's Crime Files", and contains several other interesting short cases in addition to the book-length story. Very good true-crime writing.
You Belong To Me and Other True Cases Vol 2.......2006-04-02
Now this is my kind of book, a bunch of true stories in one book! Well, six stories to be exact. One really loooooong one and the the others quite a bit shorter. But they are more to the point and didn't seem to be missing any pertinent information. If you want to get a taste of Anne Rule and what she's "like" this is a good book to start.
It's Better to Have Loved and Told Him to Get Lost.......2004-12-04
Ex-cop and true-crime writer Ann Rule has testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee and regularly presents seminars to law enforcement agencies, including the FBI Academy, as well as district attorneys and victim support groups. She has also served on the U.S. Justice Department task force that set up VI-CAP (the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program) to track and trap serial killers.
---AND she has designed a tee-shirt that reads "It's Better to Have Loved & Lost Than To Live With The Psycho The Rest Of Your Life." You can purchase one in the 'What On Earth' catalogue.
Just kidding about who designed the tee shirt, but Ann Rule should be buying these preprinted jobbies by the trunk-load and handing them out to the women she writes about. Her ill-fated, but young, beautiful, and innocent young women can't seem to leave those psychos alone.
Take the title story, "You Belong to Me." In this 192-page thriller, the wife gets the tee shirt, or at least its message in time and divorces her psycho policeman-husband. She lives in fear of him, is stalked by him, has her home invaded by him, has her phone tapped by him. Then he is finally arrested--not for stalking his ex-wife--but for the murder of a woman he had stopped for a traffic violation.
I'd guess the moral of this story is that stalkers should be taken more seriously by law enforcement, even (or especially) if they happen to be policemen.
The other five cases in this book are told in brief, punchy detail. I actually believe that the author tells a better story if she limits herself to twenty pages or so.
"Black Christmas"--A loner commie-hater kills the wrong family, believing they're Communist (wrong) Jews (wrong). The manner of death is particularly macabre. This is going to be the worst Christmas story you've ever read.
"One Trick Pony"--A beautiful cowgirl doesn't get her tee shirt in time, and is murdered by her alcoholic husband. He almost gets away with it, but continues to have bad luck with the women in his life. One of his girlfriends is shot in the stomach and her death is ruled a suicide even though "when the police got there they found Russ standing next to the dead woman, the gun in his hand."
"The Computer Error and the Killer"--The author included this case because she thinks that "it demonstrates how charming and benign the sadistic sociopath can be when he wants to appear that way." A monster slips through the cogs of the criminal justice system and kills again and again.
"The Vanishing"--A teenager who is about to go on vacation to Hawaii vanishes under strange circumstances. As the author states, "No one of us who searched for her could ever have guessed what [the teenager's] ending would be. Of all the possibilities, the truth was one that no one ever considered."
"The Last Letter"--Mistresses are suckers for unrequited romance. According to "The Last Letter," one of the unhappiest endings to a love story features a husband who actually divorces his wife and marries his long-time mistress.
Customer Reviews:
EXCELLENT.......2007-03-15
You are going to love ANN RULE, after reading this book. I highly recommend it.
Combined Crime File Books 1, 2, & 3.......2004-12-07
Ann Rule, a former policewoman and serial killer consultant writes about the victims of her cases with a compassion that often ventures over the border into cliché. For instance, in the title story, "A Rose for her Grave" in Crime File 1, an American Bluebeard discards his innocent, loving, beautiful wives on hikes or raft trips. Only one of them is smart enough to divorce him after an outing on the Skykomish River, punctuated (or 'punctured' one might say) by her new husband's attempts to paddle their raft over sharp boulders.
Usually the women in Ann Rule's stories are murdered before or because they try to flee an abusive relationship, but in "A Rose for her Grave" at least wife #3 is smart enough and lucky enough to survive Randy Roth, who goes on to drown wife #4.
The other stories in 'Crime Files 1' are shorts, which I think is actually the author's forté as they are not as repetitious as her novel-length cases. True-crime aficionados will appreciate Ann Rule's meticulous attention to detail, and her extensive contacts with law enforcement officials which brought these stories into print.
"Campbell's Revenge"--An indictment of the Washington state prison bureaucracy that allowed a rapist to be entered into a work release program only a few miles from a victim who testified against him. Two women and a child suffer needless, horrible deaths.
"The Hit Person: Equal Opportunity Murder"--A rarity in the Ann Rule canon. A wife separates from her husband and another woman is hired to take her out. Usually the ex- does the dirty work, but not here.
"The Runaway"--Thirteen-year-old Janna Hanson disappears the day after Christmas and authorities insist that she has run away.
"The Rehabilitation of a Monster"--Ann Rule presents a case that supports her belief in the death penalty: "When a killer's first crimes are marked by such cruelty that the mass of men must turn away from the details, I don't believe he deserves a second chance." A man kills and dismembers a woman, goes to jail for his crime, is released and kills again. "It was clear to those who questioned Marquette that sadistic and murderous sex was much more exciting to him than consensual intercourse."
"Molly's Murder"--Molly McClure is murdered by someone the police believe she knew and trusted. Forensics plays a vital role in solving this crime. This rape/murder took place in the early eighties and it makes you want to fast-forward a decade to the acceptance and use of industrial-strength DNA testing
The title story, "You Belong to Me" starts out Crime File 2. In this 192-page thriller, a wife divorces her psycho policeman-husband.
The other five cases in this crime file are told in brief, punchy detail.
According to "The Last Letter," one of the unhappiest endings to a love triangle features a husband who actually divorces his wife and marries his long-time mistress.
The title story, "A Fever in the Heart" of Crime File 3 is 245 pages long, and the author admits she had a problem writing it, possibly because she was so close to one of the victims. My impression is that she also blames one of the other victims for causing the whole affair.
Briefly, two high school coaches are in love with the same woman, who marries one then divorces him and marries the second coach, then returns to husband #1 who is promptly murdered. It seems like a fairly straightforward case, since only coach #2 had a motive to kill coach #1. Then the prime suspect is also murdered.
"A Fever in the Heart" is an interesting mystery with good police-work, and sad, intricate relationships between the victims. However, I believe it is about 220 pages too long. Possibly because the author was so involved in the story, she tells it over and over again, each time in a slightly different way, but not different enough to hold my interest.
The other five stories included in this third case file are as follows:
"The Highway Accident"--A man murders his wife and tries to make it look like an automobile accident.
"Murder without a Body"--"Oregon's last murder conviction in which the body was never found was in 1904." Then a lovely, young teacher disappears, leaving behind lots of blood but no corpse. The prosecutor decides to go ahead with the case, anyway.
"I'll Love You Forever"--Ann Rule found the murderer in this case so sinister that she changed her pen name so he wouldn't be able to find her. This is another sad story of a woman who marries a charming psychopath.
"Black Leather"--A murderer who trolls for young men, then tortures them to death gets his just reward on his own killing ground.
"Mirror Images"--Two convicts bond to the point where they take on the same alias. Both are sexual offenders who torture their victims, and both are on the loose way too long.
Good easy True Crime reading.......2000-05-25
Ann Rule is one of the best True Crime writers. I will be looking for more of her work. This book has some interesting stories and are easy reading and written well. I would recommend this book if you like true crime.
This collection held my attention until the very last story!.......1999-06-23
A friend turned me on to Ann Rule's books. This was my first book of hers. I could not put it down! I've got friends waiting to borrow the book when I am finished. The stories are easy to read, astonishing and bone-chillingly true! I'm hooked!! The stories describe seemingly normal people that have very dark sides. This collection of stories has definately opened my eyes to the nature of the human beast. My heart goes out to the victim(s) and their families. I hope Ann keeps cranking the books out because I intend to read every one of them!!
Heart pounding and Spell binding, Hard to put down!!!.......1997-10-26

Nourishing faithfulness in prayer.......1997-04-23
This book is divided into four sections. The first considers God's love for us and our response of prayer. The second and third parts explore the Scriptural ideal of unceasing prayer. The fourth section, which is approximately half of the book, examines three "techniques" which aim to foster unceasing prayer, namely: centering prayer, the Jesus Prayer, and lectio divina.
The first, more theoretical, half of the book can be comforting to those who are confused by their relationship with God. The second half offers practical, gentle advice along with how-to instruction. The sections on lectio and the Jesus Prayer are especially good.

A classic romantic tale.......2007-09-04
Poignant and heartfelt emotion surrounds a compelling mystery in this classic tale of soulmates damaged by their past and afraid to try again.
Great read.......2007-08-24
This book offers a type of love story that is somewhat difficult to pull off: two exes trying to get it right the second time around.
I loved Malcolm. He really rang true, especially with not wanting to show weakness around the woman he loved. He found it difficult to express his emotions, which was part of why they split up in the first place, despite still being crazy in love with each other.
Nicole was good too. I liked how her devotion to her family made her face her fears of dealing with Malcolm on a daily basis. What woman wants to risk getting her heart broke again? But Nicole braves the situation in order to help out an ailing cousin.
The book offers a nice blend of suspense and romance, an all around good read.
EXCELLENT DEBUT!!!!!!.......2007-01-28
You Belong to Me was the perfect mix of romance and suspense. I loved several things about this novel. First, it had one of my favorite romance plots at its core, the lovers reunited plot. I love it when folks give love a second chance. (I guess that's why two of favorite love songs are Shalimar's "Second Time Around" and Peaches and Herb's "Reunited.") Anyway, Nicole Collins is a science fiction writer who finds that her ex-husband Malcolm Bryant owns a film company and he wants to buy the rights to her series. Add a crazed fan to the mix that doesn't want to see the "family" that he/she loves destroyed by Hollywood and you get a novel jam packed with intrigue and drama. I loved trying to figure out who the crazed fan and possible murderer was. And I loved all the twists and turns Ms. Sargeant put in along the way. The love story and the mystery are equally strong in this one. Pick this one up today!
Excellent Read!.......2007-01-23

"You Belong To Me is a great story containing a suspenseful plot with interesting characters that are real people with real problems."
"Nicole Collins is an author who is in negotiations to sell the movie rights to one of her books to Celestial Productions, which is owned by Malcolm Bryant and Tyrone Austin."
"Nicole happens to be the ex-wife of Malcolm. She is reluctant to sell the movie rights when she discovers that Malcolm is part owner of Celestial Productions. However, a family crisis forces her hand. She agrees to the move deal and decides to work on the project to ensure the film stays true to the integrity of her novel."
"Meanwhile, someone is stalking her and others. Nicole is receiving mysterious letters and two attempts are made on her life. Malcolm and Nicole must work closely together to complete the film production, while trying to solve the mystery behind two murders connected to them before they become the next victims."

YOU BELONG TO ME .......2006-09-06
I found this very slow and not very interesting at all. it drags on too much and doesn't keep you focused on the story.
Learning How To Love.......2000-08-24
This is the third in a twelve book series about how Garrett Kincaid finds the seven sons, his son Larry had with six women over the span of 37 years, grandsons he only found out about after the death of his son.
Blake Remmington is the twin brother of Trent, whom we met in the first book of this series. Blake is a Pediatrician, who just after joining a practice in Whitehorn, sees Nate Dovesong who has an allergic reaction to a bee sting and realizes that this is his son, whom he knew nothing about.
This book is Blake trying to gain the love and respect not only from Nate, but from his mother Serena as well. It seems to him that he is doing all the wrong things, because he didn't have a positive dad role model, he just seems at a loss to know what to do right. But with the help of Serena and even Nate himself he seems to come into his own.
This is a very good book, just like the other two, I'm really looking forward to the next nine books. For good reading check out this series.
Love and obligation go hand in hand.......2000-08-09
Dr. Blake Remmington discovers he has a son the hard way. While treating a college friend's son for what he suspects is a hereditary allergic reaction to a bee sting, he comes to the conclusion that this boy is his son. Rather than deny it, Serena Dovesong confirms his claim and, surprisingly, encourages his attempts to bond with Nate. She claims their father-son relationship has nothing to do with their friendship or their relationship.
Blake and Serena have no idea where their relationship will go. Blake is afraid Serena and Nate don't need him in their life and Serena fears Blake will only view them as an obligation he must fulfill. Nate surprisingly prefers to keep his own counsel on the matter. What Blake and Serena learn, however, is that love and obligation go hand in hand. Blake's love for Serena and Nate propels him to want to care for and protect them even as the circumstances surrounding Nate's birth, as well as her own childhood, cause Serena to fear being beholden to the man she has loved for years.
Jennifer Greene has written a good story about a man whose feelings of being rootless are quelled when he falls in love with Serena and the incredibly bright child they've created together. Her writing is steady and the characters she's drawn are strong. Much of Blake's individual development stems from the integration of an overarching subplot. But that, in turn, also works in favor of the development of Blake's connection with the Dovesongs.
