Book Description
Once the sought–after video girl, this sexy siren has helped multi–platinum artists like Jay–Z, R. Kelly and LL Cool J sell millions of albums with her sensual dancing. In a word, Karrine was H–O–T. So hot that she made as much as $2500 a day in videos and was selected by well–known film director F. Gary Gray to co–star in his film, A Man Apart, starring Vin Diesel. But the film and music video sets, swanky Hollywood and New York restaurants and trysts with the celebrities featured in the pages of People and In Touch magazines only touches the surface of Karrine Steffans' life.
Her journey is filled with physical abuse, rape, drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness and single motherhood––all by the age of 26. By sharing her story, Steffans hopes to shed light on an otherwise romanticized industry and help young women avoid the same pitfalls she encountered–– and if they're already in danger, she hopes to inspire them to find a way to dig themselves out of what she knows first–hand to be a cycle of hopelessness and despair.

Good Book.......2007-10-11
This was a pretty good book. It was interesting, and I finished it just hours after receiving it in the mail. I'd recommend it to someone else. She jumps around a lot from time periods but its not hard to understand.
It was okay, but confusing at the same time .......2007-10-04
I know this book has been on the shelfs for a while. There is actually a second book that follows this one. I felt i had to read this book before I read Karrine's second book. The book is okay but it is all over the place. First her whole childhood story wasn't really convincing to me. I felt that she fabricated a lot of the stuff that she talks about her mother. The rape incident seem so unrealistic to me. I don't believe that whole part about other people watching her getting rape and not doing anything about it. Also i couldn't believe she remained friends with that girl after what happen. She constantly claims how she had low sef-esteem and how she always looked for love in the wrong places. One thing that stood with me was after sleeping with all these celebrities she would say, how she felt love and worth it once again.
Superhead whatever her name is, she was just too confusing for me. I can't believe that she put her child through so much and abandoned him numerous times in order to go with these rappers who didn't care about her. I think she put her self in those situations, i didn't feel sorry for her. i felt sorry for her son and i have to say Ray J. She lied to him and used him as her safety net. Overall the book is a quick read.
This Book Will Go Down In History.......2007-09-29
I am just getting the chance to write this review but I read it shortly after it was released. Karrine took us back to her childhood and helped us to understand the complex woman now called "Superhead." As in other reviews, I have never judged her.No one should. Who we may be quick to judge though are those people in the book who shield their past and demons. It was very interesting to divulge in the lives of many powerful (not only hip hop) figures. I did feel in reading the book that there is so much that she left out--no wonder no one has sued her. Many of them are sighing relief. Well besides "Big Tigger" which makes me wonder why HE'S so upset. If its "not true" Tigger--just move on...u guilty of something? Just wondering. Who also makes me cringe and want to judge is "Papa" otherwise known as Method Man. I'm sorry if I am spoiling it for those who haven't read Vixen Diaries yet but the fact that he called up to Hot 97 in a rage about how he doesn't know her only for us to find out it was him the whole time. It plays in my head "Why do I keep getting mentioned in the same sentence with this girl and I don't know her?" I have no respect for him whatsoever and being outed is what he deserved. Now you have a LOT of explaining to do Meth!! I imagine that he will not be making any appearances or doing anything in the near future in the sheer effort to avoid the "Superhead" question. Anywhoo--everybody should have a copy of this in your library. Just think 10 years from now your 16 year old son or daughter who is looking at these aged hip hop artists and even Karrine, can read and see who they really are--just normal people trying to figure things out in the world.
alright further proof that sex sells.......2007-09-14
karrine's my kind of girl she's into everything threesomes, prostituition, drugs you name uit she did it ain't nothing I can say that have'nt already beed said on here but there are some names I was hoping she drop like snoop, ice cube, nelly, master p, mack 10, ugk, too short, luke, maybe she did'nt have time for those good book lobve how she go into detailsd about dmx scratching her and barking while havinbg sex.
No doubt about it: She CONFESSED........2007-09-09
Poorly written novels irritate me greatly. Based on the life Karrine lived and the way she reacted to certain situations informs the reader that she isn't the most intelligent woman alive, but she did have Karen Hunter aid her with this book, so between the two of them, someone should have known how to write a decent book. However, in this instance, the poor vernacular isn't the most imperative issue here. What truly matters here is the fact that she was so unapologetically honest about many of today's hottest male celebrities. She was sexually involved with superstars such as Ray-J, Kool G Rap, Ja Rule, DMX, Jay Z, Shaquille O'Neal, Ice-T and Diddy. She was seemingly honest about her liaisons with these men, many of whom are married.
Karrine was able to get doors opened for her because of her good looks and amazing sexual expertise. In this book, she makes it clear that she has no love for her mother because her mother was not there for her. This may or may not serve as a contributing factor to why Karrine was so free with her body. She began her "career" as a dancer in hip-hop music videos. This opened doors for her; she was able to get into concerts and VIP at clubs. In the book, Karrine doesn't necessarily glorify the finer things in life, but one can easily imply that she enjoys them a great deal. She is very candid about her abusive relationship with rapper Kool G Rap and the fact that she was homeless. Before the book ends, she becomes a bit preachy and lets girls know that they should want more for themselves than to be a man's whore.
I truly enjoyed reading the book. It was difficult to put down once I became engrossed into it. If you can look past the poor writing, this book should be at least a little enjoying and/or intriguing.

Book Description
“What happens when a shoe-crazy, lipstick-obsessed, wine-swilling, pasta-slurping, fashion-fanatic, single-forever, about-to-get-married big-city girl cartoonist with a fabulous life finds . . . a lump in her breast?” That’s the question that sets this powerful, funny, and poignant graphic memoir in motion. In vivid color and with a taboo-breaking sense of humor, Marisa Acocella Marchetto tells the story of her eleven-month, ultimately triumphant bout with breast cancer—from diagnosis to cure, and every challenging step in between.
But Cancer Vixen is about more than surviving an illness. It is a portrait of one woman’s supercharged life in Manhattan, and a wonderful love story. Marisa, self-described “terminal bachelorette,” meets her Prince Charming in Silvano, owner of the chic downtown restaurant Da Silvano. Three weeks before their wedding, she receives her diagnosis. She wonders: How will he react to this news? How will my world change? Will I even survive? And . . . what about my hair?
From raucous New Yorker staff lunches and the star-studded crowd at Silvano’s restaurant to the rainbow pumps Marisa wears to chemotherapy, Cancer Vixen is a total original. Marisa’s wit and courage are an inspiration—she’s a cancer vixen, not its victim.
Customer Reviews:
Great fun during chemo.......2007-08-23
Being someone who is currently "surviving" breast cancer and chemo, I loved reading this tale from a survivor. The book is serious, moving, laugh-out-loud funny, and even instructive. I especially enjoyed the unusual genre: cartoon. It was a creative and engaging way to hear a story of one woman's encounter with cancer. I recommend it as a great reprieve from all the purely-informative books I've been given. Many thanks to the author for her efforts!
Fantastic!.......2007-08-06
In this book Marchetto recounts her experiences with breast cancer in a unique way, through the art of cartoons. It is simply amazing to see how she manages to accurately capture that which a breast cancer patient/survivor has to deal with and looks back at her own ordeal with humor and in my eyes much strength. As a survivor myself, I found her book uplifting and comforting, as well as very recognizeable. I would recommend it for all surivvors at any stage of their treatment.
I loved this book.......2007-07-11
Considering that 1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, this disease will touch all of us in some way. This book addresses the topic with both gravity and humor, and makes it very accessible. Whether or not you relate to the specifics of Marisa's life (chic NY setting, super-cool fiance), most women will be able to relate to her struggles: the fear of facing mortality, insecurities in relationships, body image problems, evolving self-concept, etc. When Marisa has to say "goodbye" to the children she will never have, I sobbed for a solid 15 minutes. Thank you, Marisa, for sharing your story in a very real and endearing way.
Brilliant.......2007-06-08
I love New Yorker cartoons. I hate comic books. I LOVED Cancer Vixen. I've been through a terrible illness and I have friends and family who have been through cancer, chemo, and radiation. This is an excellent story of one person's experience. It's the best literature I've ever read about the cancer/chemo experience because it shows what it's all about and how it effects the patient's life and family. I could really relate! I'm a writer, but no purely written story could have had the same impact and wisdom as this beatuiful, visual story. And the writing is witty and spot on too. Marisa is a brilliant cartoonist. She was actually very brave to tell her story as she did. I wish her happiness and health!
If you are tired of pink schmaltz and need some edginess w/ your BC .......2007-05-17
I bought this book and while I have still only read parts and skimmed others, it was a refreshing change from your typical BC book. It is not for the easily offended, but if you have a dark sense of humor, and need a break from the relentless cheeriness/despair of BC, this is it. I definately laughed out loud - something I needed after a DX of Stage 3C. I probably should give it more than 3 stars...

Modern Vixens.......2007-02-09
The price was great, shipping was fast, and the book is great quality. I don't recommend that you get it if you are under 18, as it contains adult content, but if you are 18+, this is a great table book :) I think my boyfriend is going to love it!
Sexy, stunning collection!.......2006-09-20
I bought this book recently because I am a huge fan of Octavio's work. In my opinion he is among the most talented pin up photographers around today - his work is sexy, colourful, and playful, completely lacking in pretension, with a flare for retro and modern themes. I recommend this book to anyone who loves beautiful women and quality photography. This is a real treat - no filler and a bargain for the amount of photographs you're getting.
Excellent, sexy, artsy book!.......2006-05-01
Came upon this book at the photographer's recent signing in LA and bought it for all the amazing work he has inside. His style is unique and makes you look twice, not your typical glamour wannabe. This is a good example of what a pinup book should be -- all pictures, no BS like blank pages or filler text. You get over 350 pages of pure eye candy, some naked, some not, but all the girls look hot. I was impressed by the variety of models and scenes he photographed while still keeping the signature "Winkytiki" feel. The sets and outfits alone are worth a look. You have shoots styled after every decade, color, black and white, classic, funky, rockabilly, retro. So there is something for everyone. Get this while you can!
A Tikibilly World of Erotica by the Third Krofft Brother.......2006-02-27
Image an insane Krofft Brother that only took pictures of rockabilly chicks, fetish demonesses, tiki vixens, and even Electra Woman in saucy poses that would melt your eyeballs.
Octavio is a leering, peering voyeur par excellance. I liked the comic book aspect to all the images as opposed to the sullen, bitter looks that many erotic models engage in. Octavio brings a cool, fun vibe to his erotica and all the usual dames like Julie Strain, Tera Patrick, Tall Goddess and many more are there for all the action.
Wow!.......2006-02-13
I ordered this book solely on the basis that it contained pictures of Heidi Van Horne. (also the cover girl) When it arrived I was a little surprised to see that is was a rather diminutive book (195 MM X 145 MM)But THICK because it is FULL of great pictures of many models that specialize in this genre of modeling. Again, I was expecting a more "coffee table" format but regardless, I thoroughly like this book and think it's well worth it's reasonable price especially since there are over 365 pages of great pictures as well as a list of other books of this type.

vixon 03.......2007-01-04
A great story, Clive cussler is a master of adventure stories, he has a cool way for mixing history with adventure and I find that I can realy belive that I could be there.
Dirk to the rescue.......2006-12-27
Biological weapons are buried in a lake and the race is on to see who will get them first. More diving by Pitt and the NUMA team as they uncover mystery in the deep.
Dirk Does it Again! .......2006-10-21
A long-missing aircraft full of chemical weapons, an icy lake bottom, a deadly conspiracy that crosses two continents, and Dirk Pitt... What's not to love?
I think this was the second Dirk Pitt novel I ever read, and it remains one of my favorites. The technology and politics haven't aged very well, but it takes me about a page and a half to forget that as Clive Cussler draws me into the story.
Don't miss "Vixen 03." It's undiluted high-octane Dirk Pitt. Now where did I put my scuba tanks?
Jeff Edwards, Author of "Torpedo"
Pitt Is The Pits.......2006-10-20
Reissued in August 2006, the novel is part of the Dirk Pitt series; an ongoing character from Clive Cussler.
The action surrounds a U.S. aircraft, Vixen 03, that crashes in a Colorado lake in 1954. It contained 36 quick-death germ bombs, but two are missing when Pitt and his pals find the sunken plane some 30 years later.
The missing canisters are in the hands of some bad guys whose mission is to sail a battleship up the Potomic River and unleash the bombs on Washington. D.C.
The premise is a bit silly and the writing is highly dated (the novel was initially published in the 1970s). Pitt seemingly has super-hero qualities - without having to dress in a phone-booth - and his pals always seem to arrive just in the nick of time to grab victory out of the clutches of defeat. I was waiting for "zowie," "pow," and "bam" to roll from the pages as the good guys battle those pesky evil-doers!
The novel sets up well to the point of the discovery of the aircraft and Pitt piecing together the mystery surrounding the crash. After that, it becomes a tepid battle against time, with a sophomoric ending worthy of a creative writing class, circa 7th Grade.
Great Dirk Pitt novel.......2006-08-06
Vixen 03 by Clive Cussler has many differant stories going on at one time. There is a plane crashed in a Colorado lake and there is the tale of South African revolutionaries trying to give equal rights to the blacks. That makes this story multi-dimensional and more readable/entertaining.
The story revolves around a plane that crashed on a secret mission into a Colorado lake. 32 years later it is found by Dirk Pitt. However some of its precious cargo (a biological weapon nicknamed Quick Death) is missing. Dirk Pitt must find the cargo before an entire city is destroyed.
This is a great action story that few won't enjoy.

Richard Bach, the writer who flew to success on the wings of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, once again returns to flight for metaphysical inspiration. Bach begins this journey with a quandary--how to customize his airplane, a small Piper Cub? For example, how can he keep his latch door from slamming shut in midflight? How to stop his oil cap from jiggling loose and disappearing? With each question the solutions appear; they are apparently delivered by a vision of a benevolent woman. Before long, Bach realizes that an aircraft designer from an earlier time and another dimension is tutoring him. Of course, Bach takes the ultimate flight into her parallel universe where he finds an old-fashioned aviation company that solves problems for troubled aviators. He also meets his mysterious muse Laura Bristol.
This is a brief story (101 pages) that wrestles with the limitations of present-day technology and the grandeur of the early days of aviation. True to Bach's mission, it also wrestles with the choices we make in this time and this moment, and how they can change our life and our universe. --Gail Hudson
Book Description
The author of eleven books, including such classic bestsellers as
Jonathan Livingston Seagull,
Illusions, and
One, Richard Bach has earned a permanent place in the hearts of readers around the world. His visionary works have shown millions of readers the amazing possibilities of imagination, mind and spirit.
An enthralling flight into the realm of possibility,
Out of My Mind shows what happens when Richard Bach sets out to solve the design problems troubling his Piper Cub. He is taken on an unforgettable journey back to 1923 and the creative heyday of a British airplane manufacturer, Saunders-Vixen Aircraft Company, where problems are solved for confused aviators. There, Bach meets Derek Hawthorne, his guide through Saunders-Vixen, and a mysterious young aircraft designer named Laura Bristol who will provide the astonishing answers to his unspoken questions. This profoundly resonant tale reminds us of a powerful truth: although our dreams may lie beyond the limits of time, space, and belief, they are never beyond reach.

short but sweet.......2005-11-23
I picked up this book unaware of the author or what the book was really about. My college had a lot of books for sale for used books at cheap prices. I purchased this book for about 50cents. I started reading it, laughing, because I was thinking, "Is this guy going to go on forever about this airplane latch?" Next thing I know the book is going in a different direction than I had started to expect. It's a wonderfully written book, short but it made me feel good inside to read this. I recommend it to everyone. I would say more but I'm afraid I would end up spoiling the entire book. Buy this book!
Lovely introduction to Richard Bach.......2005-03-17
This was the very first Richard Bach book I've ever read. I read it without expectation, without comparing it to anything previously written by Bach, without looking for the return of previous characters from other books, without needing it to be a certain number of pages, without looking for a plot, without needing it to take me further than Bach's other books, without needing Bach to be married or divorced, without needing him to be a flawless person. I strolled quietly through this book unencumbered, and with a relaxed openness, simply listening as if with an ear cocked to the wind, listening to whatever it wanted to say to me. And so, I found it delightful, charming, evocative, sensitive, imaginative, tender, touching. Bach's heart was in this book, and that was enough. I was very grateful to have found "Out of My Mind". It makes me want to read others that Bach has written because in it I found the clear recognition of something intriguing and lingering... and an intense but gentle kindredness that continues to beckon to me. This is a very lovely and compelling introduction to Richard Bach.
Do not overlook power in simplicity........2004-03-26
As the character Laura Bristol says of why she suggested leather, rather than steel cable, "...It seemed the simplest solution to your problem, and likely the most practical."
I found this, my first introduction to Richard Bach's work, both a pleasant surprise and I suspect, something that will stay with me for a long time. Absolutely beautiful imagery! Not quite as plain, perhaps, as Hemingway, or as gut-wrenching, but it contains the same seed of powerful storytelling - not a word wasted. It was not surprising to see reviews both angry and defensive. Good writing pushes buttons. His work has obviously inspired and pricked.
I understand the inspiration - whether you've found a soulmate, or in search of one - this hints not of the sadness of loss, but at the joy of meeting and experiencing. I found that unbelievably wise in this day and time of trying to catagorize, label, psychoanalyze and define love in our desperate attempt to catch and possess it. And the writing, simple as it is, evokes the pure emotions of attraction, curiosity, frustration and quiet acceptance with no more fanfare than the scent of fresh-mown grass or a geranium makes when you happen across it on a summer's day.
I am not so sure I understand why the "pricking". It is a small book. Perhaps we measure value in volume? Perhaps we want tidy endings - we want a story, and a story that validates our own experiences rather than offering a different perspective? Perhaps it tugs too strongly at our own regretted and unfinished endings? I personally felt none - but then I have found my soulmate, and I live with the constant in-and-out of a relationship that is measured in the moment, only. To measure it by the future and past would be to destroy it. No tidy story. No assured future. Just the joy (and sometimes hurts) of now.
Personally I think this book captures the brief moment of experience, the quickest flash of eternity, more beautifully than I could imagine described. I recommend it on a rainy, reflective day when your soul needs a little quiet.
Not as bad as everybody thinks.......2002-07-18
Well, I ordered this book before I read all the reviews here, and I kicked myself after reading them. Not because of the book, but because I had just written a letter to Richard, not knowing of the divorce, and hinted at questions I'm sure he won't want to answer. The book isn't nearly as bad as some people here led me to believe. It is a short story, and should have been presented as a short story, but I wasn't left hanging, as some people were. I think it stands ok as it is. Maybe my perceptions were lowered enough by some of the scathing reviews, that it was easy to find it better than some people thought. It seems to me that it's too easy for some people to point fingers and shout, "Rip Off", with no attempt at understanding or empathy. Might it have occurred to them that maybe there's a reason this book is the way it is? That's certainly true of all his other books. I tried Richard's website too late; it had been shut down, so I missed what might have been said there. After doing some online research, it seems painfully obvious to me that, whatever the circumstances of the divorce, it must have been pretty rough; it seems evident that both Richard and Leslie agreed to keep the details personal, even to the exclusion of any mention of Leslie, or "Bridge Across Forever", in a recent interview for AOPAPilot. It seems plausible to me that he was driven back into seclusion by harsh criticism, just as he dismissed himself from the "Illusions" forum on CompuServe many years ago. Indeed, even in one past interview online, Leslie's face was obviously removed from a group photo. It's easy to imagine that a stipulation of the divorce is that it not be publicized. Of course, that's disconcerting to all of us that have been allowed to share in so many personal details of Richard's life in the past. But you know what? This his HIS LIFE, people; ease up. We're not entitled to anything; we should consider ourselves lucky he's still writing at all. People forget that Richard often said that he hates the act of writing, that he has to be driven to it by ideas that demand to be exposed. They also forget what a private person he can be, and how awkward it is for him at times, to have millions of people know all the personal details he shares, to the point where they feel that they have some kind of right to criticize him, or tell him what they think he should do, or what he should have done. So, "Out of My Mind" is short; so it disappointed some people who were expecting another "One" or "Running from Safety" or "Illusions". I prefer to think it was what Richard intended it to be, and maybe we should try to figure that out. Isn't that what books are for?
Short & Sweet, and it's still Richard Bach.......2002-03-11
I'm very glad I read some of the reviews here on Amazon before I began reading this book; I hadn't known of Richard & Leslie's divorce, and I would have cast about for her in the story - sadly, she's not there. Alas. I suppose even good and perfect-seeming marriages sometimes end.
But this story itself is a tiny little treasure - I passionately love Richard Bach's writing voice, and his absolute love of flying, and those are here in this little book. He hasn't lost his sense of wonder, joy or amazement, despite potentially difficult and heart-rending personal trials - his emotions and his soul come shining through wonderfully.
Though it's only a very well-spaced-out 101 pages, _Out of My Mind_ still made my heart soar in the 45-odd minutes it took to read it. My mind thrilled thinking of such beautiful parallel universes as Saunders-Vixen's, and the story lifted my soul.
Perhaps it's not for everyone, as some of the reviews here sound very disappointed; so, you may want to keep your expectations low. For me, though, it was exactly what I was looking for right now, in this particular moment...

More fighting and fanservice fun from Battle Vixens.......2007-05-14
Those of you who are already following Yuji Shiozaki's intriguing, but sometimes convoluted story of professional fighting high schoolers, reincarnation, paranormal powers, and busty girls unable to keep their uniforms on for very long will find Volume 10 another funny, titillating, action-packed installment of BATTLE VIXENS. Those who haven't however, may not only have no idea what's going on, but could also be slightly offended by the high level of over-the-top, shameless fanservice and violence that's typical of both BATTLE VIXENS and Shiozaki's other popular manga, BATTLE CLUB. But amid the graphic gratutiousness, BATTLE VIXEN's biggest strengths are its characters and the dark and sexy world they live in. After nine volumes of character introductions, Volume 10 is the book in the series that events in the previous volumes begin to come together.
A manga that needs understanding........2006-07-19
For those that are truly confused in the story line. You should probably actually research the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It is quite interesting that a manga is actually based with fan service, as well as historical relevance. This is absolutely a great manga series to read. I still collect because of its historical relevence, and Hakafu :3. To actually understand this series you have to read into a bit more.
This series is unique to its type; a manga based with history, and fan service smothered on top of it. If you guys wanted an in depth series try Gunslinger Girl which I reccomend to anyone that enjoys espioniage stuff, and futuristic stuff. Battle Vixen, or Ikki Tousen is a wonderful series that I reccomend to those that enjoy combat babes, and comedy on the side. The story isn't met to be handled with serious thought, but rather handled in a light mood. So quit over analyzing stuff you fellow nerds and geeks, and you fan boys.
Hakafu Sonsaku is a unique character which I thouroughly enjoy, not because of her character design, but her personality. She may be a ditz, but her determination to become stronger, and fight the strongest no matter who it is absolutely beautiful. This is the greatest series to read, but an enjoyable series to just sit down and enjoy. Once again, if you guys want an in depth story line, stay far away from this. I still don't understand how people get confused over this manga. Just don't skip a book XD. I did that once... never again!
Flawless Art.......2006-07-12
I'm a manga artist, and I bought this book for the sole purpose of having a visual resource of busty female action scenes. The art in this series is consistent and masterfully executed. It also displays an extremely effective use of foreshortening.
However, the story is terribly confusing and hard to follow. I have up to book 6 and I still don't understand what's going on.
But if you just want it for the artwork, it's well worth it.
big breasts,expensive softporn........2005-07-13
The drawings are lovely and very pretty. Really sexy. Hmm. You can understand, that this novel is worth buying for a certain reason...but then again, worth buying? The price is a little bit high - you can better try `google~hooker` or anything like that and then it is free. Unless you are desperately fan of Hakufu, the main character, which I think is a chance of 0.9 % out of 100%.
Anyway,on to the story.
Hakufu, the girl with the ass and breasts, needs to fight to get the power of 1000 (as far as I think I get the story.) Her mother doesn't want that she fights...but she does it anyway. And then there is her cousin. Yes,he is her cousin, but he is looking at her breasts anyway. And then there are the enemies+ one of them has the same earring as Hakufu's mother (although I saw everybody else wearing it too? I don't know what it is supposed to mean, but I think we will get to know that in the next volume.)
There is also a black haired girl and I think (or what I got from the story) is that she gets sexual pleasure out of fighting. And she is really good at it,too.
Honestly, maybe I just didn't got this story. Maybe I just misunderstood it,something that happens a lot to me. But when I just read it without searching for hidden tragic plotlines,It just annoys me,everything from the ultra shy cousin to the black haired fightress but Hakufu wins the jackpot. I am still searching for tragic hidden plotlines, and I will definitialy give this book a second chance, not because I miss my money but because I think there has to be something good in anything and there must be a reason why people love this.
Not THAT Good, Not THAT Bad.......2005-04-29
When I bought the first and second volumes, I really was very disappointed and wished I never bought them. Besides the small funny moments with Hakufu and the Three Kingdoms plot, I just wanted to get my money back. The first two volumes were terribly plotless, with hard-to-understand slang and just boobs everywhere! Plus, a lot of the characters' personalities were getting me annoyed.
BUT...I proceeded to buy the third volume. By then, the plot, the slang, and the characters were beginning to grow on me. It could hardly be called "liking" the manga. I was merely putting up with it.
And then, I bought the fourth volume.
I think that's when I began to fall in love.
Unlike the first three volumes, the fourth actually gets somewhere. I began to get more of an emotional attachment to all the characters that use to annoy the heck outta me. The plot was introduced....Explaining the Magatamas....How all the characters were trying to break free of a destiny already pre-written for them to act on.
This I found very original, since with most other mangas I've read and animes I've watched, the characters are trying to FIND their destiny. In Battle Vixens, the characters want to MAKE their destiny.
The fact that it practically counts as softcore porn is just a bonus for the pervs ;)!
so, sure. this manga can seem not worth the money, but it deserves to be checked out. borrow it from a friend or something, or the library XD! i can definitely say this is one of my favorites.
even if Shimei gets annoying time to time.

Betrice Small.......2007-08-04
She does it again - thankfully!!! Love everything she writes - and have every book she's ever written!!!!
Sad ending to a much-beloved series.......2007-05-22
Like many readers, I loved "Skye O'Malley" and Ms. Small's earlier books. I don't know what happened in the author's later books, but much of the passion, adventure, and nearly all of the formerly gripping plots seemed to vanish. It's almost like they are dashed off by another writer now, a ghost hack who has no interest or heart in it.
"Vixens" revolves around three of Skye's descendants, three predictably stunningly beautiful women, and includes endless repeating descriptions of their eye colors. (Not to mention I wanted to scream at the umpteenth description of the matching 'Mughal moles' that two of the cousins have.) The females are not well-developed in character, and all seem to be simple, self-absorbed twits in comparison with their magnificent ancestor, Skye.
Ditto for the male love interests of the cousins, who seem to be cardboard characters and mostly prattle and coo about the women's eye colors to the point of absurdity. That is, when the women aren't discussing the men's eye colors, in turn. OK, there are lots of blue and green eyes here, let's get on with it ...
There are tons of clothing changes and characters simpering about the English court, but no deep or complex sub-plots of any substance to hold the reader. I remember all these years later how gripping "Skye O'Malley" was and honestly there is not even a wisp of resemblance in this final closing clunker.
I can only surmise Ms. Small must be weary of the O'Malley saga and unwieldly family tree, and unfortunately, I was too by the time I was done with "Vixens." If you want to read it just to say you've finished the too-long saga, it's a goal, I suppose. But unless you truly enjoy reading repeat descriptions of people's eye colors and moles, and pedigree lists rivaling the Old Testament for length, your time and energy may be better spent on Ms. Small's original works. Those were true gems.
This is a good ending to the Skye O'Malley series........2006-06-02
I really liked this book. Three Cousins who are all beautiful look-a-likes find love in different ways. Cynara was more firey and passionate than Diana and Fancy. She went for the man who her family disapproved of and won him! Thank you Mrs. Small for Vixens. A good ending for the Skye's Legacy.
A fittting ending.......2004-11-12
This book pretty much wraps up the Skye books. This last one involves three cousins, each descended from Skye O Malley and bearing a striking resemblence to her.
First, there is Fancy, who is Fortune's daughter and a grand daughter of Jasmine.Fancy is a colonial who's husband has recently died under mysterious circumstances. The family has sent Fancy to her grandmother. Did Fancy have a hand in his death? Read and find out.
Next, there is Diana. She is a descendant of Skye through the Scottish part of the family, namely Jasmine's son Patrick and his wife(whose story is told in Just Beyond Tomorrow). Diana is the good cousin, a sweet girl, who sends her suitors away, with little damage done. She can not seem to pick which man she wants to marry, and pressure from her family(her father in particular) doesn't help matters much. It's a fun story.
Finally, there is Cynara, or Cyn. her father, Charles Stuart, jasmine's son by Prince Henry, wants her married, and soon, before she gets herself in trouble. Cyn already has her husband picked out, but he is reluntant to marry, so, she attempts to convince him that they are a perfect match for each other. Which could lead to diffculties if her family finds out.
All in all, a good book. not as detailed as Ms.Small's previous work, but then, that doesn't matter. This group of cousins are a delightful finish to a series that has fans everywhere.
Fancy's story makes book worth reading.......2004-07-05
Fancy's story alone made Vixens worth reading.
Having survived a short (as in a few hours) tragic marriage, Fancy is sent to live with her grandmother. She attends court and immediately catches the attention of the king. This story is the most erotic of the three, and the interaction between the king's three mistresses is amusing. I only wish her story would have continued.
Siren's story (as well as her character) was a little weak and and Cyn's was fine but both of these could have been secondary characters in Fancy's story.
As a Skye fan, I'm glad I bought this book despite the bad reviews.

Loads of fun!.......2007-08-09
John Zakour goes it alone in this, the fourth book featuring freelance PI Zachary Nixon Johnson - the only freelance PI left in the world in the year 2060. In his latest adventure, he is approached by Santana Clausa - who runs the North Pole to make the toys for Holiday, when each person on Earth receives 3 presents. Two of the elves that she oversees have been murdered and she wants Zach to find out who did the deed.
Immediately people start trying to kill him. Just another day in the life of Zachary Nixon Johnson!
When he arrives at the Pole, he goes undercover to try to determine who among the current guests may have been the murderers. With guardbots being reprogrammed to attack him, sugared-up Elves all around and argumentative fellow guests to contend with, this won't be a walk in the snow.
In some ways this book was superior to the joint ventures in the previous works - it is a bit more gritty and "real." In others, it needed more work - there were a lot more typos and grammatical errors, for instance. All-in-all, I would say it holds its own against the first three books in the series and I look forward to seeing where Zakour takes this most amusing cross-genre series in the future. Keep 'em coming!
Entertaining, a little too long, not up to par as prior books.......2007-07-24
I've enjoyed all the other books in this series. This isn't as good as the others. Mr. Zakour in trying to compensate for his former writing partner winds up over compensating. A little too long. More predictable than the others or what I've come to expect. A good read overall but slower. The others were gave me a rush like a roller coaster ride this one was more of a merry-go-round. I won't stop reading the series as I have confidence Mr. Zakour will eventually hit his solo stride.
Zakour can spin a good yarn on his own.......2007-05-25
John Zakour has turned out another fun guy saves world tale. It's clear that Zakour can come up with plenty of surprising situations and characters on his own. I hope there's another tale of Zach's coming up soon.
Ho ho ho oh no.......2007-02-11
This is basically a fun book that could have been much better. I liked it, but sad to say, it was a much weaker entry in the Zach Johnson-series than the previous three books. Maybe because it's a solo effort by John Zakour, without the influence of previous co-writer Lawrence Ganem? Anyway, it has some unevenly written parts that were missing from the other books. Not to mention, it has way too many grammatical errors; too many to be just a misprint or something like that. I do hope it's not John Zakour himself who made this many mistakes; either way, it sure could have benefited a lot from a good proofreader and/or editor because they were annoying and detracted from the flow of the story. So DAW books, please take notice!
Okay, besides that: it was fun meeting the last freelance P.I. on Earth again, and having him run into Santana Claus, wacky elves, murderous 'bots and other assorted crazy individuals while trying to save the world - again! Here's to more adventures of Zack, but please bring Ganem back if that's needed to improve the quality once more.
Zachary Nixon Johnson strikes again.......2006-12-29
If you read of this stories, you will probably read them all. This last saving of the world makes me wonder what else he will have to do to save the future. The story is good but the book does suffer from a lack of final editing and multiple grammer errors, not that I'm an expert. This may have only bothered me, but it stops the story. It was great that characters from his other adventures were included as a reference point and a lot of explanation wasn't necessary for Johnson's loyal followers. There were a lot more passages and pages of what Zach was thinking that sometimes worked for the story and sometimes slowed it down. The best in the series so far is "The Doomsday Brunette" which was fast paced with excellent dialog. Although "Frost Haired Vixen" was not at that level, it is a good read for fans and worth waiting for. I think he should get involved in "The High-Lighted Harem" next time. That'll keep Electra on her toes.
