Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Book Description
The New York Times–#1 bestselling author and psychic Sylvia Browne and her son explore the ways in which spirits, angels, and God celebrate Christmas in Heaven and how the celebrations compare to those on Earth. Questions such as Are there presents and the exchanging of gifts? Do heavenly spirits decorate? and How is Jesus honored? are discussed, as is the idea of giving gifts from the heart, like the spirits and angels in heaven do, instead of giving store-bought goods. Information is also provided on the role of religious ceremonies in heaven and how they differ from the ceremonies of the living.

Christmas In Heaven.......2007-07-04
I bought this book for a gift and the person I bought it for was delighted. It wasn't what either of us expected but we were certainly not disappointed. Beautifully illistrated also.
Christmas in Heaven.......2007-05-08
Finally a Christmas book with no Santa, reindeer, or Elves. The story was beautiful and the pictures were great!!!!
STUNNING!.......2007-04-07
The pictures are stunning! It makes me feel like that is what heaven feels and looks like. Makes me home sick.
Lovely, comforting and uplifting.......2007-03-02
Perfect for that "little something" gift you want to give to someone to inspire them, to send them your love at Christmas. Short and sweet, it's more like an extended Christmas card than anything else. Perfect for indigo and crystal children who absolutely love this stuff. But for many of us, it reminds us of the beauty and splendor of our "real" home, and not this nasty earth plane. Very nice. Would like to see more of these, perhaps for Valentine's Day? Easter?
Book Description
'Twas the night (okay, more like the week) before Christmas, and all through the tiny community of Pine Cove, California, people are busy buying, wrapping, packing, and generally getting into the holiday spirit.
But not everybody is feeling the joy. Little Joshua Barker is in desperate need of a holiday miracle. No, he's not on his deathbed; no, his dog hasn't run away from home. But Josh is sure that he saw Santa take a shovel to the head, and now the seven-year-old has only one prayer: Please, Santa, come back from the dead.
But hold on! There's an angel waiting in the wings. (Wings, get it?) It's none other than the Archangel Raziel come to Earth seeking a small child with a wish that needs granting. Unfortunately, our angel's not sporting the brightest halo in the bunch, and before you can say "Kris Kringle," he's botched his sacred mission and sent the residents of Pine Cove headlong into Christmas chaos, culminating in the most hilarious and horrifying holiday party the town has ever seen.
Move over, Charles Dickens -- it's Christopher Moore time.

Christmas crept into Pine Cove like a creeping Christmas thing: dragging garland, ribbon, and sleigh bells, oozing eggnog, reeking of pine, and threatening festive doom like a cold sore under the mistletoe.
'Twas the night (okay, more like the week) before Christmas, and all through the tiny community of Pine Cove, California, people are busy buying, wrapping, packing, and generally getting into the holiday spirit. It is the hap-hap-happiest time of the year, after all.
But not everybody is feeling the joy. Little Joshua Barker is in desperate need of a holiday miracle. No, he's not on his deathbed; no, his dog hasn't run away from home. The Stupidest yet funniest Angel.......2007-09-02
I had this book on cd and was standing in line at the DMV so I was able to listen to the entire book while waiting. Just kidding. I was laughing out loud and getting funny looks. I told those who were not trying to avoid eye contact with me they have to buy this book is is just too funny.
MY Angle on the Angel.......2007-08-24
I'm a huge Christopher Moore fan, have enjoyed all of his writings to date, and this book met all my expectations of wit, wry humor, and warped storylines featuring many of the eccentric personalities I've grown to know and adore in Pine Cove and from other Moore books. I recommend starting with "Practical Demonkeeping" (the first book in Christopher Moore's series and the reader's intro to Pine Cove) and following his array of books in the order he's written them. All are winners, just some more special than others. Enjoy!
A Wonderful Phanasy.......2007-08-23
Should you wish to be cheered and if you can take off beat humour, then this CD is for you. The presentation and voices are unusually good and the use of slightly weird Christmas music adds to the glow. The story is a joy, prepostorous, wild and it makes fun of so much that is tripe. You'll laugh, even if your alone.
Absolutely hysterical.......2007-07-25
I decided to buy this book after reading half of the first paragraph -- and it just got better from there. I read it twice in the first week. Check out the "Search Inside" function on this one!
Great Book.......2007-07-13
The Stupidest Angel is funny, clever, and surprizing. I got to like the characters; in fact I'd like to be their friend. They are real, vunerable, funny and really screwed up.

A Pleasant Read but Disappointing. .......2006-07-05
Jo Beverley is THE disciplined Regency author. Few can match her historical detail, traditional customs, or setting skills. However, although Jo Beverley's CHRISTMAS ANGEL is a well-written story, somehow, along the way, it lost me!
Leander Knollis, the Earl of Charrington, knows it is time to take a wife, but he has one rigid rule: the woman must never fall in love with him. The perfect candidate is the widow, Judith Rossiter. Obviously, she was deeply in love with her first husband. If fact, in the village, they still call her "The Weeping Widow." Yes, Judith is a good choice and for an extra bonus: she comes with two small children! How marvelous! Suddenly, the Earl of Charrington's "urgent" family is ready!
Although, this "marriage of convenience" is the answer to Judith's nagging financial problems, she still wonders what the man is up to! The Earl of Charrington could have any woman in England, so why her? Yet, Judith is no fool and she readily accepts his proposal and as far as his "golden" rule of: no love! That won't be a problem! Judith's first husband had been a penniless noble-minded poet and their marriage was nothing but a travesty. Silently, Judith vowed never again!
Comments:
"Pitfalls" and Jo Beverley are synonymous and in CHRISTMAS ANGEL, Ms. Beverley has the "mother lode." The Rossiter children are terrific as the story's secondary characters and the "instant" family format is a great idea. It allows Beverley to use delightful humor and helps to build a bustling, believable atmosphere.
So how and when did Ms. Beverley lose me? I suspect it was her handling of the hero's character. At first, the character of Leander Knollis is dark and compelling, then Beverley's inventiveness quietly slipped away. The story's spark and dark-complexion went missing and the story turned into a "leisure stroll." Although, Jo Beverley has the skill to pull it all off, disappointingly in the end, CHRISTMAS ANGEL was a letdown!
Grade: C+

Good book, but not really great, IMHO.......2005-07-24
While true to the Jo Beverley tradition - this was a good book, very well written - I did not find it as compelling as the first two books in this series - AN ARRANGED MARRIAGE or AN UNWILLING BRIDE. But as they say, "to each his own", and this was still a very good read.
Leander is the hero here, and at the start of the book, he is definitely intriguing. He feels he has to marry, immediately, but his reasons are private, even from his best friends. Oh, and did I mention his criteria? He must have a wife who will not fall in love with him.
He confides his dilemma to his friend and fellow rogue Nicholas. He explains his dilemma, but will not explain his reasons. Okay, true to form, Nicholas and his wife come to the rescue. Enter Judith Rossiter, widow of the famous poet . She is known to have been overwhelmingly in love with her husband, and he with her, after all, most of his most famous verse was written to "his angel bride, Judith". And she, too, is still mourning her dead husband, why else would she still be wearing widow's weeds?
When Judith Rossiter is suggested to Leander as the perfect solution to his dilemma, we get to watch the progression of this unusual and interesting marriage. Why is Leander so determined to marry? Why, too, is he so determined to hide his heart? And what of Judith, and their two children - why does she agree to this suggestion? And how will this blended family adapt? How will Leander react to having an "instant" family, complete with two children? And how will Judith react to this re-marriage?
Jo Beverley does "issues" very well, and in this novel, she examines the different pitfalls of a new and instant family - how the normal issues that parents have between themselves, and regarding their children, are now magnified 100 times over by the situation they find themselves in. Many of their dilemmas were funny (and to those of us who have children, ring true to life).
While this book had a very good plot, great characterizations, and great dialogue, I was, in the end, disappointed because I did not feel that I got the insight I was looking for into Leander's character. While Ms. Beverley does explain why Leander is the way he is, she never delves too deeply into his character, and I never got a *feel* of how he *really* felt, or why he was so quick to change, and why he fell in love with Judith so quickly. People are shaped and molded by their childhood experiences, and they turn into who they are because of their life experiences. Can people really change their underlying psychological underpinnings so shortly, and in so dramatic a way? IMHO, this was not explained well at all, or at least, was not delved into adequately enough for me. That is the only gripe I have in an otherwise excellent book - but it is a big gripe, because reading about how people react and change is one of the reasons that I do read these kinds of books.
But all the same, this was an excellent book, with all Jo Beverley's usual trademarks. An excellent plot that is beautifully tied together by the end of the book, very good writing, and excellent characterizations and character development - definitely a notch above most other writers.
Although I gave it four stars, this is in relation to the other "Rogue" books, which I thought were better than this one. But still, I love Jo Beverley's writing, so I guess you could say it's really a four and a half stars.
A book for baby lovers........2005-03-13
This book is more about Judith's children than her romance. If you want a love story read something else.
Where'd They Get THIS guy?.......2005-03-04
I am a huge fan of Jo Beverely, but this had to be one of the worst books I've ever read. (Sorry) Leander wasn't even in the same league with the other rogues. All the other rogues were intriging and so were their stories.
Blah..........2005-03-04
The only interesting scene in the entire book was when Leander visited the Delaney's : They are sitting at the table and Nicholas is feeding his infant daughter, having a conversation with the ever-dull Leander.

Dave Barry's Christmas Special.......2007-05-14
This book strays away from the typical Barry humor. Instead it focuses on the improbable, which makes it a very good story to read to the little ones. It will keep children's attention, and it is not very long. "Walter" seems to be based on some part of Dave Barry's childhood in Armonk, NY.
As deep as thin ice.......2007-05-13
We read this for a men-women church book club Chirstmas time selection. The women seemed to like it. It's cute, uninformative, with no surpirses, and all the depth of a toy bunny.
Nice Story.......2007-03-18
This was a very nice, short story for the holiday season. It was not as funny as I expected based on the reviews I'd read and my knowledge of Dave Barry.
The Shepher, the Angel, and Walter the Christmas Miracle Dog.......2007-01-29
This was a light, quick, fun read for our bookclub in December. The narrative just made you chuckle, especially if you grew up in the time frame of this book.
NOTES FROM DAVE BARRY'S CHILDHOOD.......2007-01-17
Some of the incidents in this book have been touched on previously in his other books and columns, and I've always wished he'd write more about the Christmas pageant and the bats in the church belfry. He covered it all in this book which, although still too short, is adorable and came out just in time for Christmas. I hope everyone will add it to the holiday-themed books in their own library.

Terrific!.......2007-08-15
A HOLIDAY OF LOVE is a delightful collection of short stories and is very enjoyable!
Loved Nick????.......2007-07-08
What happened to this character? I didn't even know him. I loved him in all the other books. She should of gave him is own book to make us understand why he fell in love with Julianna in the first place or did he ever. I really can't remember it was so short and forgettable. These characters deserved much more than this. This is the only time I haven't like a Judith McNaught book (I guess its not a book but a short story) I loved all her work up until now. Couldn't wait to read Nicks story only to be disappointed. Don't waste your money.
Completely Disappointed.......2007-03-22
First, let me admit that I bought this book solely to read Judith McNaught's story. I only recently stumbled onto her and after reading Whitney My Love and the two associated books, when I read that this story was about Nick Du Ville, I quickly ordered the book.
What a total disappointment. Even without knowing that the characters of Nick and Julia Skeffington are characters in the other books, this story doesn't hold water. It reads like an outline. And it could have been a great book in and of itself. Why go to the trouble of creating such a wonderful character as Nick, having him very visible and playing rather large roles in previous books, then dismiss him like this. Better not to have written any further about him at all.
In fairness to the other authors whose stories form this compilation, the fact that I was so disgusted with Miracles made me completely uninterested in reading them. Shame on you, Ms. McNaught. If I could give you zero stars, I would.
On my KEEPER shelf.......2007-02-10
This book is also on my keeper shelf as it is a continuation of the Whitney My Love and Until You series from Judith McNaught. They had me crying and reading 'til all hours of the night. This and a Gift of Love finished up the series.
Heartwarming, albeit short holiday novellas..........2005-12-10
This is a wonderful and heartwarming holiday anthology from some rather big romance authors, namely Judith McNaught and Jude Deveraux. I had never read anything by Deveraux before this book, but it won't be the last after reading the wonderful novella Change of Heart, the only contemporary effort in this collection. The story of a twelve-year-old prodigy and his quest to match-make his mother with a cynical millionaire is endearing and compelling and had the holiday spirit in full swing when using a young boy to bring two people together. Then I read the reason I bought this book: Judith McNaught's Miracles, Nicholas Duville's story. The novella was wonderful and it was full of the things that I've come to know and love about the McNaught stories. It has the romantic encounters between Julianna (from Until You) and Nicholas, the misunderstanding and the ultimate remorse and humbling from the hero. McNaught fans are familiar with this formula, so the aforementioned summary isn't a spoiler in the slightest. The story is very well done and nicely told despite its short length, and my heart went out to the heroine during the misunderstanding -- signs of a well-executed novella. However, I had wanted to read Nick's story since reading Whitney, My Love, and I, like the vast amount of reviewers here, feel McNaught should have written a full-length novel centered on him and Julianna. This had the makings of another emotionally-driven offering, but the readers got stuck with only the appetizer instead of the main course. As a novella, Miracles is wonderful, but I wanted more from the very sexy Nicholas. I enjoyed the other two novellas as well. Jill Barnett's Daniel and the Angel is an enchanting sort-of paranormal set in Old New York and Arnette Lamb's Hark! The Herald was a riveting, page-turning love story set during Medieval Scotland. All in all, A Holiday of Love is a light, sweet and wonderful little holiday offering that will make you smile. I am pleased if a bit unsatisfied with what little I got from Nicholas Duville. Such a great hero deserved his own 500-page novel. Sigh. Should I keep my fingers crossed and hope for an extended version of this novella or a sequel to this story?
Book Description
The spirit of the season is spreading through the rustic seaside hamlet of Cape Light, as the residents prepare to celebrate the joy of the holidays. But town mayor Emily receives an unexpected and precious Christmas gift when she finds a baby girl tucked away in a decorative cradle set up outside the church, with a note begging whoever discovers the child to take care of her.
Aside from signs that the baby's birth mother was a drug abuser, no one has any idea to whom the child may belong. As the police investigate, Emily is granted temporary custody of baby Jane. Having given up her own daughter years ago, she missed out on the many wonderful experiences that come with motherhood. And though she tries to be reasonable and mature about the situation, something about little Jane makes her feel that she was meant to find the baby and raise her as her own. But the changes an adoption would bring do not sit well with her husband, Dan, who has already struggled with the issues of raising children once in his life, and does not want that responsibility again. Now, in the midst of the year's most joyous season, Emily must come to terms with her duty to her family, her own feelings of regret and loss-and what her heart truly desires.

The Christmas Angel.......2007-05-31
As with all of the Cape Light novels Thomas Kinkade brings the characters to light for a teary, jaw dropping, happy loving novel. All of the past characters are brought into this book so you don't forget anyone and we even meet a new one...who is painted perfectly, you just want to tell her to go home! A book you'll want to keep reading, then when it's over, you just want MORE! I can't wait to read the next one "A Christmas to Remember"
Christmas Love.......2007-01-12
The book is written a bit like the Mitford Series in that it is a small united community with all the ups and downs of life. There are personality clashes, misunderstandings, discouragement and all the other negatives in human relations. However, the journey to learning to love and accept others and ourselves is full of interesting thought provoking experiences.
Christmas in Cape Light.......2007-01-05
Once again, visiting the fictional Cape Light for Christmas is almost like going home for Christmas! The familiar characters are like family, and the story is always interesting, uplifting, and believable. Kinkade and Spencer are truly a team of authors that bring fiction to life and build a fan-base of people, like me, who are looking for good, clean reads that have a posative Christian message.
He is the writer of hope as well as the painter of light.......2006-06-24
I have read each book in this collection in a day I can never put them down..He writes with hope just like he paints the light in his pictures..I don't know how he does it but he captured my heart with this uplifting story ..we hear of so many disturbing stories and so much trash in books these days it was just awesome to read a book that made me feel good about the world and to give me hope .I love these books waiting for the next book.
The Christmas Angel.......2006-03-02
The Christmas Angel
by Thomas Kinkade and Katherine Spencer
I know it's not Christmas but a good story but a good story is a good story.
We all know of Thomas Kinkade as a great painter of light, but have you read any of his stories? This is in the Cape Light series.
This book tells more of Emily, a mayor, she's older and recently married. Emily had a daughter over 20 years ago that her mother talked her into giving up. She now has a good relationship with her daughter, but has missed all of the bringing her up.
One morning Emily was jogging she spies something moving in the cradle set up outside the church, a little hand. The baby inside starts an adventure you don't want to miss.

My Favorite Christmas Story!.......2002-12-14
I can't believe this book is out of print! It tell the story of an angel who sacrifices herself to be the Star of Bethlehem. The ending is so touching, so beautiful, that it makes me cry every time I read it. It is a book for children and grown-ups and should be on everyone's shelf to share during the holidays. Why oh why did it go out-of-print?! I hope the publishers reconsider and republish it next holiday season!
The Greatest Gift: A Christmas Story.......2002-12-11
This is really a wonderful book not just for children but for adults also. It's the story of an angel named Grace who gives up her heavenly life to come to earth to help Jesus Christ from his birth to his mortal death. If you are really on the fence about organized religion this is the book you need to help you explain to young children about the Savior's mission. It will also help explain selfless love and caring.
The illustrations in the book were great, really help kids and adults stay interested. This book is a Christmas Tradition in our home!

Couldn't get into any of these stories.......2006-11-22
Since the back cover description is already given on this page, I'll skip straight to my review:
Ana Leigh has a lot of fans, but I'm afraid that I'm not one of them. I didn't find THE MACKENZIES: LILY all that great. In fact, I never even finished it. I felt that the heroine was a bit of a nosy shrew, constantly sticking her nose in where it didn't belong and presuming a lot of things that weren't even true. And the hero was a bit of a stuffed shirt. He was so proud that he got quite irritating after a while. I just couldn't really like either of them, so I didn't really care whether they got together or not. Two stars.
I was hoping for a good read from Carolyn Davidson's A TIME FOR ANGELS, as I'd really enjoyed her story "Stormwalker's Woman" from Harlequin's "One Starry Christmas" collection. But I'm afraid that a very annoying hero ruined this story. He was so quick to leap to conclusions without even trying to find out if they were true or not. He just came across as a man with a rod shoved up his...nether regions. And, as another reviewer has stated, the heroine's reasons for refusing the hero were very contrived, even for a romance novel. A shame, as this author has done it better. Two stars.
Kate Bridges' story THE LONG JOURNEY HOME had so much potential, but the delivery left a lot to be desired. First off, it stretched the bounds of believability quite a bit that the heroine took so long to recognize the hero. Even if I believed that my husband was dead, even if it had been two years since I'd last seen him, even if half of his face was scared and he had a beard, I'd still recognize him instantly. It just didn't ring true with me that the heroine didn't recognize him for such a long time. It wasn't like she'd been forced to marry him, it was a love match. Wouldn't she recognize the man that she loved, no matter what the circumstances?
But that wasn't the only problem with this story. After their initial meeting, there was hardly any interaction between the hero and the heroine. This was a situation fraught with tension (considering that the heroine was engaged to someone else), yet the author seemed to shy away from exploring that tension. And the character development was somewhat lacking, as well. I just didn't feel like I knew the characters. I didn't really feel their pain at being seperated. I think this book might have been better if it had been developed into a full-length novel. But the way it is here, it isn't an engrossing read. Two stars.
Most anthologies are a hit-or-miss proposition. Unfotunately, this collection was a miss. There are far better Christmas romance out there. See my list "Christmas romance books worth buying" for a list of my favorites. Skip FRONTIER CHRISTMAS, unless you're a fan of Ana Leigh and want to complete your "Mackenzies" collection.
Three Heart Warming Stories.......2006-11-03
"Frontier Christmas" is a collection of three romances set in the late 1800's around Christmas time.
In "The MacKenzies: Lily" by Ana Leigh, Lily is a Harvey Girl in New Mexico. Lily has enjoyed her job but her Harvey House is about to close and she's ready to move back home. While she's happy to be going home, she is worried about the children of Sheriff Grady Delaney. Grady is a single father and Lily is convinced he is neglecting his children. The two are constantly fighting and Grady can't wait until she leaves. But when Grady is hurt and Lily nurses him back to health, he realizes he doesn't want her to leave after all.
This was a delightful romance. Lily is a strong heroine and Grady is a loving father, despite what Lilly thinks. His children are delightful with more than a few tricks up their sleeves. Ana Leigh does a good job of weaving history into the story. The ending drags on a bit, but it's a good story overall.
In "A Time for Angels" by Carolyn Davidson, Honey Bell Morris is struggling to raise her five-year-old sister, Hope, after their parents die in an accident. Money is tight and Honey worries that soon there won't be enough money to pay their bills. Still, when Joseph Bennett gets lost during a snowstorm, Honey doesn't hesitate to give the elderly man shelter and food. Joseph is very grateful and eager to reward Honey, but his grandson Zachary is afraid that Honey is after Joseph's money. But soon his feelings of suspicion turn into other feelings.
"A Time for Angels" was my favorite story in the book. It's a feel good, Cinderella type story and the Christmas setting adds to the magic. The sparks flying between Honey and Zachary are very real and believable. Hope is also very believable, a five-year-old who has already experienced too much sadness and loss, who wants to believe in Santa Claus and Angels, but isn't quite sure if they exist. It's not a perfect story; Honey's reason for not wanting to marry Zach is contrived, even by romance novel standards. Still, I really enjoyed it.
In "The Long Journey Home" by Kate Bridges, Mountie Logan Sutcliffe disappeared on his wedding night two years ago and everyone is convinced that he is dead. Logan finally makes it back home only to find out that his wife, Melodie, is engaged to another man. Now Melodie has to decided whether or not to stay married to Logan and worry about him every time he does his job or to get married to much older but safer Donald Dawson. Will Melodie follow her head or her heart?
This was my least favorite story in the collection. I think the length of the story hurt it. I never felt anything for the characters. It would have been much better as a full length novel that spent more time on what happened to both Melodie and Logan in the two years he was gone. The romance between Donald and Melodie was never believable so there was no real conflict in the story. It was a good idea for a novel that never quite worked in novella form
All in all, "Frontier Christmas" was a collection of heartwarming stories and a perfect read for this time of year.
A Finish To The MacKenzie's + 2 More..........2005-02-14
I purchased this book for Ana Leigh's final story (Lily) in the MacKenzie's series. I enjoyed Grady & Lily's story. There wasn't much to it but it was enjoyable & gave a nice ending to this series. Lily (Cleve & Adee's daughter) had left the Triple M & was working as a Harvey girl in New Mexico in hopes of finding love. Grady is the town sheriff who is raising 3 kids on his own. Lily quickly formed a bond with the children & it didn't take long for her to realize that she loved Grady as well. Be sure you don't miss the rest of the MacKenzie series. This is the best series that I've ever read. I would sure like to be a part of that family. They are the meaning of "family".
Up next was A Time For Angels by Carolyn Davidson. I thought the book was good but not great. I didn't feel the characters had much personality & I couldn't understand how Honey could fall in love with Zachary in basically a matter of hours of re-meeting him. She had met this man 6 months prior when she went to the bank where Zachary was the president & he basically insulted her by suggesting that if she would have sex with him he would give her a loan to pay off her house. With Honey being the pure, innocent person that she was I just couldn't understand how she could fall in love with him after just 1 dinner together. Aside from that this book does have a good storyline. It's not a story I would highly recommend.
The last story in this book is The Long Journey Home by Kate Bridges. I thought the story line for this book was awesome. After just saying their vows Logan is called away to duty before he & Melodie even have a chance to consummate their marriage. Logan doesn't return that night as he has promised & is later pronounced dead. After 2 years Melodie has agreed to marry another man & all of a sudden Logan reappears. Can he capture Melodie's heart once again? I really enjoyed this story.
Overall I would recommend this book for women that like short stories but don't necessarily need the hot & steamy scenes. If that's what you enjoy you won't find much here.
3 great authors, 3 great stories!.......2003-12-06
What better way to get into the spirit of the holidays then to curl up with this truly outstanding trilogy.
First up is LILY by award winning author Ana Leigh. A continuation of her Mackenzie saga, Lily is Cleve and Adee's daughter who has struck out on her own as a Harvey girl. Losing her heart to three motherless children has put Lily in a terrible predicament, it seems she is about to lose it also to their handsome father, Sheriff Grady Delaney.
A TIME FOR ANGELS is Carolyn Davidson's contribution. Poor but proud Honoria "Honey" Morris is about to lose her farm, and Christmas is looking very bleak for her and her little sister. Until one snowy night before the holiday, an old man, lost and almost half frozen stumbles onto their property, and into their hearts. Much to the dismay of his hard hearted grandson, skeptical banker Zachary Bennett, the Morris girls have found a temporary home caring for his lonely grandfather. But Honey's warm nurturing seems to be finding a way to thaw out the ice in Zachary also.
The last in this Christmas collection is by Kate Bridges. THE LONG JOURNEY HOME is a story of a true Christmas miracle for widowed Melody Sutcliffe. Her husband, Mountie Logan Sutcliffe has returned from the dead, and will do anything to win his true love back!
Who can resist these wonderful, gifted authors? Grab a copy of FRONTIER CHRISTMAS, a warm cup of cocoa, and curl up under the tree for a truly magical Christmas read!

Book Description
Three delightful angels come down to earth -- just in time for Christmas!
Shirley, Goodness and Mercy: three well-intentioned angels who are occasionally allowed to intervene (or -- perhaps more accurately -- interfere!) in human affairs. Despite their frequent misadventures, despite the chaos they often cause, things always seem to turn out right.
Their latest prayer request comes from the Seattle area. Anne Fletcher sees her son, Roy, becoming a bitter, career-obsessed man. She prays for a special woman to be sent into Roy's life, a woman who'll show him what really matters.
The angels swoop down and find a way to throw Julie Wilcoff in his path -- literally! From that moment on, Shirley, Goodness and Mercy shall follow them . . . Whispering suggestions, arranging encounters, hoping for the best.

A delightful holiday romp.......2005-01-09
This was my first Debbie Macomber, but it won't be my last. The romance is near perfect and the heavenly assistance provides that extra touch and more than a little humor. Watching Roy and Julie interact is such fun. Roy's mom and Julie's dad make interesting subplots.
For those who like a "cleaner" romance, this is for you. The sexual attraction is there, but it's a by-product of their attraction to each other as people.
In addition, it's a real "get into the spirit of Christmas" book. Plenty of love and joy to go around. Just delightful. I'll be checking out her other books, too, especially any more Cristmas ones. This is the best Christmas romance I've read yet.
~ This Book Makes You Believe In Miracle's ~.......2003-11-25
This Christmas story made me in the Christmas sprit, this book reminded me of a Life Time Movie. They are three Angels that made me laugh I loved all three of them. They have until Christmas to have Anne's wish come true, after Anne's divorce, her son Roy took it bad because his father married his fiance and for that he has not forgiven his father he has also given up on love. Roy had a cold heart he wouldn't let anyone in, until he met Julie. Her mom died a couple of months before Christmas, leaving her and her twin sister and there dad. Julie is determine to have a great Christmas for her dad even though her mom is not around to enjoy it with them. It takes a while before and Julie and Roy get to know each other and let there guards down. That's when the three Angels are there to lend a helping hand. Those Christmas Angels makes you believe in miracle's a very touching story.

Christmas is coming..........2003-11-17
When the writer of Hebrews counseled to entertain strangers, for by doing so, you might entertain angels, I doubt he would have considered how much those strange angels might entertain you! After a too long break, Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy have managed to convince Gabe , Garbriel, to unleash them on Earth again. This time, they come in answer to a mother's prayer. Anne Fletcher has seen her son, Roy, grow bitter after the tragic loss of his true love. She prays for him to find new love, giving the girls a chance to fix things.
Love comes crashing in for Roy in the form of Julie, the daughter of one of his employees. At first, they are like oil and water, but soon, with a bit of a heavenly shove, Roy and Julie realize how special each other is. On a side note, justice and healing also enter Anne's life is a sweet way.
**** You will want Christmas to come more often if it brings gifts like this. Ms. Macomber's book is not billed as inspirational, but inspiration can come in unusual ways. Shirley and company are so very human that they remind you that the definition of angel is a messenger of God, and therefore, anyone can be one. ****

A delightful read!.......2003-11-14
This title was an absolute delight! The mischievous angels added something extra to an already enjoyable romance story. Although I am a big fan of Debbie Macomber's novels, this was the first angel book I've ever read. I am definitely compelled to purchase previous titles. This book has succeeded in putting me in the mood for the holiday season.
the return of the angelic Murphys of matchmaking.......2003-11-07
In Seattle, Anne Fletcher worries about her son Roy, who used to be an outgoing friendly person, but now is an acrimonious workaholic Scrooge. She wants Roy to rediscover what life is all about though a grandchild would be nice so she prays for heavenly intervention. Now Anne might have reconsidered turning to heaven if she knew angels Shirley, Goodness and Mercy were going to answer her prayers.
The angelic trio literally tosses Julie Wilcoff in Roy's path. However, when this threesome interferes it means chaos. Shirley, Goodness and Mercy intercede causing their usual mayhem, unruly incidents and encounters, but seemingly this time the angelic trio has failed at matchmaking this duo in time for the holidays.
THOSE CHRISTMAS ANGELS marks the return of those meddling delightful angelic pixies who want to see every mortal happy. As is the case when Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, the Murphys of matchmaking, are around, everything that could goes wrong does go wrong. Anne is a charming sprite, but why she wants revolting Roy is hard to say even with heavenly intervention. Fans of the author, these angels, and a lighthearted It's a Wonderful Life crowd will enjoy the latest antics as the trio tries to make a match in time for the holidays.
