Book Description
According to author Marilynn Gelfman Karp, collecting is a calling; and those who are driven to collect unloved objects are the purest collectors of all. In this literary and sophisticated celebration of humble objects, Karp shares her passionate insights on what she calls the "rapture of the capture."
In Flagrante Collecto is a vividly illustrated book that is equal parts cultural history, personal memoir, and coffee table objet d'art. The 1000 color photographs that fill this book tell stories of lost and found objects. Ignored by many, these figural matchbooks, buttons, erasers, cigar rings, pictorial seed packets, and other items are hunted and gathered with Ahab-like tenacity at flea markets, antique shops, and collectible shows worldwide.
This lovingly assembled volume is a fascinating compendium of material culture as told by an incredible array of objects.

Best book on Collecting - EVER.......2007-05-13
This is the best book I have found on Collecting. The writer gets into the state of mind of a collector, then presents profusely illustrated collections of an almost unbelievable scope. Like - you mean people really collect THIS? Yes they do and it's there. COOL book that will broaden your horizon - and you'll never throw anything away again because someone out there collects it.
An interesting visit to the flea market.......2007-04-10
Reading this book was like day at my favorite swap meet, antique collective or a random search on eBay. I visually recognize the material but appreciate it more for being brought together in groups. The collector's mind automatically seeks groupings and hierarchies of individual examples and this book plays to that weakness easily. The little stories are at times educational and fascinating and at other times too personal and esoteric. My only problem is that after reading this book, I tend to want to own too many of the objects featured.
Equisite eccentric and great looker........2007-03-17
This is a beautifully produced look book. The unusual and very particular collecting subject matter is very personal. Quirky, wonderfully photographed and of superior quality.
A Remarkable Book by a Vanguard Collector That Appeals to All Tastes.......2007-01-04
I have purchased at least seven copies of this fascinating book to give as gifts to a wide variety of friends. For those interested in collecting, the book offers fresh insights into the forces that motivate people to acquire, while illustrating a remarkable diversity of eccentric collections that surprise and delight. For the novice or general reader, the breadth and types of collections are amazing. The book is superbly designed and the objects beautifully photographed and presented. The author is a farsighted collector with an awesome range of historical knowledge and an accessible, highly informative writing style. I highly recommend this book for readers of all persuasions who simply enjoy being intellectually and visually stimulated.
Just terrific great fun.......2006-06-06
The first thing to hit me was how beautiful this book is. The photographs of the thousands of collectibles are delectable. It made me want to run out and find some of this stuff, or find new things to start collecting. The author unfolds her theories about why people collect, and describes many wonderful childhood scenes of Bronx life and early collections of marbles, baseball cards, sewing kits, you name it. Adult adventures collecting all over the world, and the collecting adventures of her friends and family, are included, and make for a wonderful warm biography of a collection of collectors. The descriptions of the original uses and methods of manufacturing of various collectibles is fascinating, and it's lovely to see simple and sometimes disposable things treated with such interest and respect. The history and character of our country shine through in the old graphics and designs of postcards, matchbooks, lawn sprinklers, and countless other items, and after spending time with them in this book, I can feel more deeply what's been lost to more efficient means of production. I'll never browse a flea market or garage sale quite the same way again. It's a wonderful conversation piece, a fun book to have around for guests to peruse. It gives you permission to bring out those old shoeboxes of stuff from under your bed and show them to your pals, even though you're not a kid any more. I loved this book, it was part anthropology, part history of design, part memoir, part encyclopedia, part travelogue, all work of endearing art.

The adventure continues!.......2004-02-02
"Caught In The Act" continues the story of the six Kelly children that were were sent away to get adopted by new families because their mother feels that she cannot afford to keep them. I read the first book in the series called "A Family Apart" and it was about the children getting adopted by new families and the second part was about Frances Kelly's adventures with her family. This book talks about how Michael Kelly is doing with the Friedrichs. Mike's main concern is that he believes that the Friedrichs are hiding something from him. He thinks this because he overheard a conversation about somebody named Ulrich. Mike's opinion is that Mr. Friedrich killed him. The story is all about Mike's adventure.
I really enjoyed the novel because it's interesting to see what life was like back in that time. So far I have read the books: A Family Apart, Caught In The Act and In The Face Of Danger. I'm going to read the whole series! If you are thinking of buying this book buy A Family Apart first.
MYSTERIOUS SEEKS!...........2003-03-14

If you like suspense, mysteries, conflicts, abrupt uproars,or just plain old horror/ questionable murder books you shoulid read this book.
a Caught in the Act review.......2003-03-08
Michael Patrick Kelly, age 11, is one of his five brothers and sisters who are being sent west on an orphan train by their Ma so they can live a better life than they've had working on the streets of New York City. While his brothers and sisters are placed in good homes, Mike finds life difficult with the family he has been adopted into, especially since he had been a pickpocket out of necessity in New York and going west had been his only other choice besides being sent to Tombs Prison. Mr Friedrich, the father, believes that Mike is nothing but trouble and beats him whenever his temper rises. Gunter, the 13 yr. old who hates Mike and would like to see him sent back to NY and Tombs Prison, tries everything he can to get him in trouble. Most of the time, he succeeds, but Mike remains determined and stays with them despite Gunter's efforts. Mrs.Friedrich is a motherly woman who gladly welcomes his placement in their family, and Mike finds a true friend in Reuben, the hired hand, and Marta, who is a housekeeper for the Friedrichs. While Mike is in the wagon on the way to his new home, he overhears a whispered conversation about a man named Ulrich that disappeared. Apparently, Mr.Friedrich thinks that Mike is just like Ulrich and that he should be "taken care of". As the days pass, Mike hears more tidbits of conversation and believes that Mr. Friedrich has killed Ulrich and that he is afraid someone is going to find his out secret. Mike tries to pry more information loose out of Marta, but she only hints that she knows something which does not need concern him. When Reuben disappears after a fight with Mr.Friedrich, Mike can only fear the worst, and later while in the woods he spies a freshly dug patch of dirt. And then on a trip to St. Joseph, Missouri, he openly tells the people at the general store that Reuben is gone and that he suspects Mr.Friedrich of his murder. What will happen next to Mike--Will he find Reuben? And who was Ulrich? Not for a person who loves action, But a good read........2001-08-28
Michael Patrick Kelly, a boy who steals to feed his family, is actually a very good kid. He would shine the customer (or victim's) shoes and then pick their pocket. However, he is caught, and sentenced to five years at Tombs prison- or to be sent west to start a new life. He goes west. And that, my friend, is how everything begins. Everyone of his siblings gets good parents- except him. Hans Friedrich, a rather bulky,er, really bulky man with a temper like a bomb- ready to go off. Gunter Friedrich, a 13 year old who hates Mike and is always trying to get him into trouble. And he does, too. Mrs. Friedrich is a lovely and nice cook. The maid, Marta,is in love with a rowdy boy-who loves her back! And Rueben-the hired hand is Mike's best friend. But when Reuben suddenly disapears, and a freshly dug plot of dirt turns up that day, Mike has a creeping suspicion of Mr.Friedrich, and if he will be next...

Del's a mystery writer who meets her perfect hero! .......2007-06-12
Caught in the Act was a great romance mystery novel. Mick is undercover cop who saves Del in jewelry store heist and gets shot in the process. Del offers to take him home and care for him after the shooting... Check out the whole series; Caught in the Act (1), Treat Her Right (2) and Mr. November: Men to the Rescue (3).
Raw Intoxicatingly Sexy.......2004-10-04
As I find with more and more with contemporary romance books that I read, I find that women are more frank and aggressive about satiating their sexual desires, as well as their lover's. It appears that the modern day man, "Samson", still desires, respects and appreciates this "Delilah" of the 21st century. Although the "Delilah", Del, of "Caught In The Act" is a true seductress and even brazen at times, she is not a prostitute nor deceitful, but a successful mystery writer unsuspectingly caught in a real life murder mystery. The "Samson", Mick, of our story is mouth watering sex personified.
Mick is an undercover detective (and Del's secrete admirer) whose shot while trying to protect her from being killed during a deliberately botched jewelry heist. Delilah feels obligated to personally express her appreciation to this unknown man who would so easily lay down his life for hers and ends up inviting him home with her - so that she can play his personal nurse and look after him. As you can imagine, he gets more than what the doctor prescribed...
LF has a good balance of romance, playfulness, sexy, mystery, danger and suspense. Everything about this book is fast and furious - raw passionate lust progressing into a respectful and endearing marriage.
Fantastic!!!!!!!!!.......2004-08-15
I couldn't wait to read this story after reading Angel & Danes & Celia & Alex's stories. Mick Dawson, who was a teenager in the previous books & also at one time was Angel's & Alex's landlord. In this one its been a few years since those stories & Mick is an undercover cop.
He has been watching Delilah since she moved into the apartment building next to the one he owns. She intruiges him. While sitting in a cafe one day he sees Del enter a jewellry shop & follows her in when the place is robbed.
After saving her life & getting shot in the process, Del takes him home. Del has some very questionable friends who help her with her work. She writes murder books. She has a very dangerous way of researching her stories. She does the stunts she writes about.
She is implicated in the robbery by one of the men involved . And Mick believes him. He has Del bought in for questioning, which doesn't go down to well considering how they both feel about each other.
The ending was pure novel, straight out of one of her books.
Romance & Suspense ~ My Favorite In The Series.......2003-03-09
This is the first book in Lori Foster's series re: three friends: Mick-the police detective; Zack-the EMT; and Josh-the fireman. Oddly enough, I read this series backwards starting with Josh's story. So, I really didn't get a clear picture of the relationship between the three friends until I read this book - CAUGHT IN THE ACT. While other readers seem to prefer the first two books, I really liked this one the best.
In the story, Mick Dawson is wildly attracted to a woman that he has only seen in the neighborhood. There is just something about her that captivates him, and he is determined to meet her. That meeting takes place during a jewelry store robbery as Mick arrives in time to save her life. In the process, Mick is shot with the bullet that was deliberately meant for her. Del, the woman in question, is confused and very grateful. She's determined to thank Mick for saving her life, so she follows him to the hospital and waits while he undergoes surgery for the bullet wound.
The only way that the doctors will allow Mick to leave the hospital is if someone can be there to take care of him. To the surprise of everyone, Del, who by now is also dazzled by Mick, offers to take him home with her. Mick (no fool he) immediately agrees. The story progresses from there with Mick and Del falling deeply in love, while Mick pursues the criminal(s) who wanted to kill Del that day at the jewelry store.
Without going into all the details of how the mystery is solved, I will say that there is plenty of suspense to keep you interested - apart from the sizzling scenes between Del and Mick! I really grew to like these two quirky characters, and actually re-read the other two books to see if I could find more information about them. I guess I enjoyed the book so much that I just didn't want the story to end! Highly recommended!
OK read - typical Foster fare.......2002-12-31
I think this may be my last Lori Foster book and my last contemporary for a while (I prefer historicals anyway). After reading a couple, they all start to sound the same, indistinguishable one from another - except for the terrific Too Much Temptation which I thought was great. Admittedly, I did not read any of the prior books containing any of the secondary characters - Angel & Dane, Alec & Celia, Zack and Josh - so to me they just seemed like a crowd of extras that were hard to keep straight.
As for the romance, well in typical Foster style, the couple, who know virtually nothing about each other, wind up in love and married within like a month of meeting! This was sort of acceptable in the short stories of The Winston Brothers, but in every novel it borders on silly. Though Mick was a nice guy, he didn't really do that much for me. Nor was I particularly fond of Del. Bottom line, I didn't care that much about this couple or their relationship - the kiss of death for a romance novel!
If you are a Foster fan, you will probably like this book. If you are new to her, I recommend Too Much Temptation or The Winston Brothers instead. As for my opening statement, I might have to reconsider if Joe Winston gets his own story. He sounded intriguing.
Book Description
A literate and deeply learned meditation on how to recognize and invest oneself in the truly essential aspects of living.
We each hold deep-seated beliefs about three facets of our lives: what we do (and are not willing to do); what we know (and are certain that we don't know); and what we are (and are not). These are basic activities and we invest each of them with our life force. Yet they always slip through our fingers: Being, doing, and knowing come and go.
In Caught in the Act, Toinette Lippe-with wit, a laser-sharp eye for detail, and a sense of the contemplative-brings us on a journey of daily awareness so that we can truly see the makeup and direction of these forces and how they shape our existence. With this book, we learn to give up the illusion of identifying with the thoughts, things, and activities that we call "I"-a vital step on the spiritual path and in the search for an authentic life.

"a fuller trust in the universe".......2005-03-04
This account of beginning her semi-retirement, told with candor and vulnerability, wonderfully illustrates how the personal becomes universal. Who doesn't have an identity centered around what they do, think, and know? More than a flash of recognition in the mirror, Caught in the Act is an invitation to explore your own boundaries and to step out beyond them. Best of all, the challenge is to step out playfully, to keep a sense of humor about how our conditioning limits us. How to enjoy life just as it is now, while being open to seeing more than we think we already understand. This is no instructional manual of advice, thankfully, instead it is a book about learning to surrender. An informed and well-grounded wisdom shines forth on every page.
While the stories from her life give the reader a sense of connection to her, somehow the book magically becomes about you. Her questions become your questions, too. She writes unpretentiously, as one who finds it unnecessary to state the obvious. It is tempting to credit her decades as a book editor for the clarity of her writing, but the ability to turn a rigorous, analytical mind back on itself requires a degree of personal honesty that only comes with years of spiritual practice and contemplation. This is what makes her insight so recognizably human and relevant. It takes both humility and courage to first see, and then reveal oneself so forthrightly.
It is easy for anyone to relate to the challenges of losing your identity with one's work and filling free time creatively; you needn't wait for retirement to explore the territory of "doing non-doing" or to face the inner critic that turns play into more work. Learning to live at ease in the "don't know" zone sounds like the advice of many a Zen master. To watch how someone really applies these teachings to their own life is a wonderful opportunity. Trips to Japanese Zen monasteries, classes in Chinese brush painting, and retreats with Dzogchen masters are fascinating enough just as stories, the inner life evoked by them contains observations you may find useful in any circumstances. I found myself saying "Oh, I do that, too" a hundred times over, as would anyone paying attention to the mind's usual antics. Her focus on the many ways we avoid being present shows (with the usual irony) how awareness of doing that immediately puts us in touch and makes us present in a deeper way. Sometimes just seeing how plain silly we can be might jolt us into whatever is real for us now.
Never mind that she calls herself an "almost-Buddhist", her grasp of the issues centered around "aimless aim" is right up there with Zen and the Art of Archery. If we don't have any goals or intentions with whatever activity we are doing, we may go nowhere. Yet if we are too focused on results, we burden our actions with heavy expectations. This book is about finding that balance in your daily life.
ELEGANT, INTIMATE, AND THOUGHT-PROVOKING.......2005-01-08
This book takes me straight to the heart of my current preoccupation, how to live more fully in the present. Many spiritual teachers address this subject, but rarely is the experience captured with the intimacy of Toinette Lippe's reflections. Reading Caught in the Act is like being inside her mind-which is astonishingly like being in my own. In the practice of entering ever more fully into each moment, the aspirations and the obstacles encountered are largely common to all of us. I was touched and inspired and also greatly entertained by reading such candid accounts of another person's path toward deeper awareness of moment to moment "being, knowing, and doing."
My favorite parts of the book concern the author's painting lessons. Her description of a Chinese calligraphy workshop makes almost palpable the sensations of moving an ink-laden brush across paper-so vivid, in fact, that I felt an intense yearning to have the same experience myself. The writing in this section is like a thick ribbon of silk drawing us through each sensuous step in the act of painting to the unexpected culmination: folding the sheet of paper and putting it aside, relinquishing the work of one moment, surrendering to the next, acknowledging impermanence. "Where the paint meets the paper," the author writes, "there is discovery."
In addition to the elegant writing and thoughtful examination of many fascinating subjects, I enjoyed smaller elements of the book, like the clever chapter titles. "Watch This Space," for example, is followed by an epigraph from Ovid: "Let your hook always be cast; in the stream where you least expect it, there will be a fish." The illustrations at the head of each chapter are another nice touch-the author's own paintings, offering a lovely link to her descriptions of her art classes.
More than a handshake.......2005-01-07
We have to hope Toinette Lippe keeps writing since she does it with such grace, and it is clearly addictive. Her observations are profound, but they require only a receptive mind to be understood and accepted. The spiritual books she has edited over the years offer clues to her intellectual integrity and serene spirit. For those who are inspired by clear and imaginative thinking, she has become one of America's most endearing writers. She writes about how we feel and what we would say if we were poets. For readers unaccustomed to contemplative writing, their first encounter with Ms. Lippe's ideas will feel like reaching to shake a new friend's hand and being pulled into a full embrace: surprising, delightful, and comforting.
A favorite..........2004-12-07
This book gave me the refreshing feeling of having a deep conversation with a kindred soul. When finished, I had numerous pages marked to reread, as profound thoughts are interspersed between interesting anecdotes from the author's own life...much in the same way that we all experience our everyday lives with unexpected moments of insight and clarity. For those who haven't read it, I also heartily recommend the author's earlier book "Nothing Left Over: A Plain and Simple Life."
Honest, deep, unpretentious.......2004-11-15
I sat down to read just a chapter of this book, and simply couldn't put it down until I'd read almost the whole book. Reading it was like spending time with a good friend--the best kind of friend: one who levels with you, thinks deeply, cares about the spiritual path, and is unusually honest and direct in discussing core issues. The author talks about her own struggles with meditation, for example, and the difficulties that we all have with remaining really present. Topics include surrender, dealing with hard times, and learning how to just *be*, instead of self-defining by *doing*.

The Buckhorn Brothers: Casey
As a teen, Emma Clark was the girl with the bad reputation and trying to get Casey Hudson into bed hadn't helped! Not only was he the cutest guy in town, but he was also the only one who'd really seemed to care about herso much so that the usually hot-blooded teen had resisted all her awkward advances. Now, eight years later, it's a different story.

Quite enjoyable.......2007-10-06
Casey ~ I've recently "found" Lori Foster. I had just finished reading about all of Casey's brothers, so I had to go "find" Casey. :) I was nice to be able to tie in ans find out what happened to him, too.
Caught in the Act ~ Now with reading about Mick and Delilah? I'm having to search out the rest of that "family". :) Lori Foster has a way of drawing you into her characters. Makes you want to know not only them...but their friends, also. Off to find out about Josh and Zack....
Thanks, Lori Foster, for some great entertaining reads!
Loved it!.......2007-09-26
Both books are very good. I recommend reading the rest of the series of each of these books.
Lori writes such terrific love scenes........2007-09-06
Enticing: The Buckhorn Brothers: Casey\Caught In The Act by Lori Foster is two tales in one. The first: The Buckhorn Brothers: Casey: centers around the son of Sawyer Hudson and I really enjoyed it. Emma Clark was spunky and independant. She was a very admirable heroine (and she cracked me up)! Casey, the 15 year old was great. The interaction between the two was... well... hot. (Lori writes such terrific love scenes.) They are filled with so much passion and steam! About the other brothers they live together and more or less run Buckhorn County. Sawyer Hudson is a doctor. Morgan Hudson is the sheriff. Their half brother Jordan Sommerville is a vet, and Gabe Kasper is a handyman.
Their mother has been married three times. Her first husband died in the service and left her with two young sons. She remarried Jordan's father, but divorced him later when it became apparent he had a drinking problem. Then years later, she learned to trust love again and married Gabe's father -- who she's still with. Women who meet the brothers don't quite know the education their mama gave them. The brothers know women, love and respect women, and understand women. Lori Foster has a whole host of books to read, so you'll be in for a treat. If you're looking for another great read try The Fates by Tino Georgiou.

Afflicted.......1999-12-18
I met Mel in L.A. in October and talked to him about his book. As promised, I told him that I would read it when I got back home. As an actor, I was most interested in the techniques and preparation used by Nolte. I am amazed at the incredible amount of work he puts into his role research. He is a true inspiration! Mel, email me when you get a chance.
It is Nick Nolte - from the inside OUT!.......1999-09-01
One of the best profiles ever. Written with insight based on personal experience. Nolte comes off as an enormously complex individual - yet Weiser makes everything about him crystal clear. I have read it twice, and I'll probably read it one more time, just before heading for the next Nick Nolte movie!
Funny, witty, and full of surprises!.......1999-07-30
I enjoy good movies so I found this book to be the perfect summer read. It's funny, and witty, and full of surprises about Nick and his Hollywood associates. I had no idea the actor was so dedicated -- and so much fun to be around!
An absolute MUST! At the top of your summer reading list........1999-07-02
Ever wonder why craziness and trouble seem to go hand-in-hand with greatness? Why so many famous artists spend more than their share of time embroiled in scandal and controversy? Mel Weiser has masterfully taken on this ages-old conundrum by sharing many of his most private and treasured moments with his long-time friend Nick Nolte. "Caught in the Act" is a sumptuous 7-course portrait that follows the complex Nolte from his palatial homes in California and Florida to the hallowed chambers of the Holocaust Memorial in Washington to the star-studded sets in Paris for the filming of "Jefferson in Paris". The story is carefully crafted around Weiser and Nolte's intimate 10-month collaboration on the film. When the walks on the beach, the jet-setting, the limousines, the quiet moments alone with Nolte, and eventually, the filmiing all come to an end, Weiser leaves us with a man desperately struggling to maintain his freedom -- from obligations, from distractions and even from his own human fraility -- so he can be completely true to his art. "Caught in the Act" is an honest and revealing expose of an artist at work. But, be warned -- start the book early in the evening and fasten your seal belt because you won't be able to put this fast and exciting read down!
Very Interesting.......1999-06-29
I am a Nick Nolte enthusiast and am most impressed with his acting skill. When I learned there was a book about Nick, I made a point of obtaining it. I was "not" disappointed. The book gives insight into the "man", the "real" Nick as opposed to the "reel" Nick I've admired. The author has done Nick fans a great service by writing this book and sharing humourous, honest (both negative and positive) information about the "real" Nick and as a result, I believe, at least as far as this fan is concerned, Nick's wishes have been realized. Here's one fan who now sees him as a man rather than some fantasy movie star. I have a better understanding of Nick himself and believe I would be better able to interact with him if I were every lucky enough to meet him. I'm still a fan of Nick's, warts and all.
Book Description
In the second Amhearst Mystery, Merry Kramer, girl reporter, discovers a grisly murder and soon finds out that most of her friends are suspects.
Customer Reviews:
Merrilee Kramer Is A Klutzy Sleuth.......2007-07-16
"Caught In The Act" (Amhearst Series #2) has main character Merrilee Kramer bumbling from one klutzy moment to another, getting herself into scrape after scrape as she tries to find out who killed Arnie Meister. Merry is the local paper's cub reporter covering the murder story who fashions herself to be a sleuth.
It's Christmas, and she is having a hard time figuring out who would want to kill Arnie, her co-worker's soon to be ex-husband. But before you can string up some garlands, the suspects start piling up: the soon to be ex, an old high school flame, the biggest business tycoon in town.
To make matters more complicated, Merry thinks she's falling in love with Curt Carlyle, a local painter, but are her many brushes with near death scaring him off?
I liked Merry Kramer and her antics. The book is well written, as are all Gayle Roper's books. As it's set at Christmas, this would make a dandy Christmas gift.
Clear space on your shelf.......2004-07-13
After reading Caught in the Middle, the first book in this series, I thought that it would be impossible for the second installment in Gayle Roper's series to measure up to the first book. Happily, the second book is even more entertaining than its predecessor and will not disappoint readers in any way.
Perhaps the best part of this series is the main character. Merry Kramer continues to be a person that everyone can relate to. She, unlike many characters in Christian fiction, is a real person who is not perfect. She makes mistakes but learns from them, just like the rest of us. She battles with bad hair days and the always present cat hair on her pants. She often finds herself in unusual and often hilarious situations and never runs away from a challenge. The rest of the books characters are immensely entertaining; from Merry's demanding cat to the artist who is constantly frustrated at her independence. The newspaper staff that Merry works with is full of colorful characters who provide many of the best scenes in the novel.
As an avid mystery reader, I am used to being able to predict the endings of mysteries before the main character does. I was very happy to discover that I was completely wrong in my guess at who the murderer was in this book. The ending is a complete surprise; I cannot think of a better way to end such a charming, entertaining book.
Humor, mystery, faith, and a little bit of romance are all skillfully blended together to create a book worthy of a "prime" spot on anyone's bookshelf.
Even better than the first.......1999-04-17
If you read my review of the first book, you know that I loved it. Well, in my mind, this one is so much better. I don't remember laughing out loud at this one, but over all the story is so great. The mystery is harder to solve, yet makes perfect sense. The romantic subplot is great as are the plots involving the other characters that we meet. I saw a lot of myself in Merry's problems with her personal life. The first book is great and a great way to meet the characters, but this book gets even better. Be sure to read them both. I'm egarly waiting the third book, Caught Napping, which the author has just started on.
Great book!.......1999-03-30
I didn't think I would enjoy "Caught in the Act" as much as I did "Caught in the Middle", but I liked it even better! The mystery kept me guessing until the end of the book(and so did the romance). I can really relate to Merry. She seems like someone who would be a good friend(if she were real). She's a great character. I cannot wait for the next in the series. Write(and publish) faster!
"Caught in the Act" blew my mind..........1998-09-17
The predecessor to this book was good, but the sequel was even better. The characters are just as real and loveable, and the feisty heroine Merry tells her story with both dry wit and tender feeling. The mystery was also even better--just about as hard to solve as an Agatha Christie. If you liked the first book, grab "Caught in the Act"!

Book Description
Litvak demonstrates that private experience in the novels of Austen, Charlotte Brontë, Eliot, and James is a rigorous enactment of a public script that constructs normative gender and class identities. He suggests that the theatricality which pervades these novels enforces social norms while introducing opportunities for novelists to resist them. This approach encourages a rethinking of the genre and its cultural contexts in all their instability and ambivalence.

Book Description
Meet Ethan Lederer. He's got a great girlfriend, and he's in all honor classes. Life is almost normal until Lydia Krane shows up in chemistry class. She's not really Ethan's type-she's some variety of goth with peculiar markings up and down her arms. But he feels an attraction to her he can't explain. As they get to know each other, Ethan finds himself opening up in ways he never could with his girlfriend or his family. Lydia is so different. She loves theater just like Ethan. They're even going to star together in the school play, a Hollywood version of Macbeth.
But suddenly Lydia changes. Why does she seem so attached and desperate? It doesn't take long for Ethan to realize that Lydia will do anything to keep him, the boy of her dreams.

A Person to Remember.......2006-04-24
This book is full of activity and backstabbing. "Caught in the Act" is about a girl who is gothic, and moves to a new school. Her face is covered by her hair and she seems to always be writing in her green diary. Life is changed dramatically for the main character, Ethan. Ethan lies to his parents about his grades because they want him to be extremely smart, which he isn't. There are other things that he wants to do but feels pressured by his parents or that they would be disappointed of what he wants to do. The new girl, Lydia, seems to understand him and he feels he can tell her anything. She gets him to do things that he never thought of doing. He soon starts to realize that he is way over his head and trapped in the middle of past consciences and a girl who is out of control.
This book is a very enjoyable book. It can be read in just three days without realizing it. I was so disappointed when I got to the end. I wasn't disappointed about what happened but that I was almost finished. I really enjoyed that the book kept moving and had hardly any standstills. "Caught in the Act" made me think about things in a different way and I know will make others look at life in a different way.
"Caught in the Act" is a great book for seventh grade and above. I recommend this book to any one who likes constant moving and unexpected twists. If you want to read something different, this is the book for you. I enjoyed it and I know many more will.
Scary and well written.......2006-01-03
I've rented this book from the library. What a fantastic read. I actually put it down several times near the end because it was a little scary in a real sort of way. I thought I knew how the story was going to end but I was surprised by it; totally not what I thought would happen.
An engaging novel with a twisting storyline.......2005-06-08
High school sophomore Ethan Lederer is an honor student and all-around great guy. He has lots of friends and a girlfriend who all adore him. His parents think highly of him and hope that he will follow in their Ivy League and medical school footsteps.
Ethan, however, is not as interested in science and math as his parents think. In fact, his near-perfect grades are threatened by his performance in chemistry class. Wanting to please his family, and the role they hope he will play, Ethan remains silent and lets them believe he is on track to medical school. The one thing that is truly important to Ethan, however, is neither science nor math, but the theatre.
And then, Lydia Krane shows up one day in Ethan's chemistry class. There's something compelling about the new girl, with her changing accents and babydoll t-shirts. Plus, Lydia is different from Ethan's family and friends. She doesn't expect him to be something he's not, and they have something in common --- the love of the stage. Both Ethan and Lydia try out for the spring play, a modern-day reinterpretation of the Shakespearean classic, Macbeth. They get parts, and become closer friends.
Ethan confides in Lydia what he can't confide in anyone else: "No matter how hard I try, I just won't ever be as smart as them, as good as them...I'm just really good at faking it...I'm doing it all the time, twenty-four/seven. Acting like I'm a good student, good son, good everything. Acting like it comes easy to me. But it's a real struggle. I feel like a total fraud half the time."
As Ethan continues the facade of good student, he does the unthinkable. He cheats on a chemistry exam rather than risk getting a bad grade. His plan backfires when he gets caught, but then Lydia Krane intervenes, which in the end makes Ethan's situation worse.
As Ethan lets Lydia into his life more and more, he notices that Lydia is changing and becoming more clingy and more obsessed with him. Ethan finds out more is at risk than his perfect image, and Lydia is not who he thought she was at all.
CAUGHT IN THE ACT is an engaging novel with a twisting storyline. Author Peter Moore does a good job of letting us into Ethan's life and exploring, along with Ethan, who he really is. The character of Lydia Krane is both creepy and mesmerizing. We only hope for the best for good boy Ethan, to get himself out of the bad situations in which he gets captured.

Final Curtain - Curtains For..........2005-05-26
High school sophomore Ethan Lederer appears to have it all. He has a smart girlfriend named Janie; a solid interest in acting as well as talent and a flair for expression. Cracks appear in the surface in the forms of Ethan's brilliant older sister, Amanda and their overachieving parents who assume that he wants to be a doctor. Ethan is enrolled in the Honors' Program at his school and science is the one class that stands between him and a solid phalanx of As and A+s.
Ethan's life takes a drastic turn for the wild side when transfer student Lydia arrives. She insidiously worms her way into Ethan's life; she comes between him and Janie; she blackmails the chemistry teacher so as to ensure Ethan's continued academic success after he gets caught cheating on an exam.
Lydia's family is just as sinister and scary as she is. Her brother is described as a quasi-verbal criminal and their mother is clearly mentally ill. Ethan learns that Lydia has travelled all over the country, rarely remaining in one school for the duration of a year.
Lydia is controlling and dangerous. She tries to indoctrinate Ethan in the idea that they will remain together forever; she tricks him into having her name tattooed onto his shoulder. Ethan soon becomes quite scared of the girl and tries avoiding her at all costs. He makes an attempt to end the relationship, such as it is, only to become the target of telephone harassment and a stalking charge.
Ethan fears for his life and during the school production of "MacBeth," readers are left avidly awaiting to see the resolution before the Final Curtain.
