Book Description
Carrie Fitzgerald is the luckiest girl: She is the only sophomore on the varsity basketball team, she always had the lead in the school play, and she has the cutest boyfriend in school. Carrie Fitzgerald is also the most superstitious girl: She attributes all of her good luck to a Moroccan T-shirt that her father sent her from one of his distant jaunts around the world. When her mother accidentally donates Carrie's lucky T to Help India and her good luck starts running out, Carrie does what any logical girl would do -- she travels halfway around the world to get it back. But as she scours a foreign land for her luck, she finds a lot more than she ever expected. She's going to need more than luck to find her way back home again.

UGH!.......2007-07-16
i didnt not at all like this book! i felt that this girl is WAY TOO spoiled and it made me mad how if she didnt get her way she would turn into the PRISSY girl who was "too good" for work. Her attitude wasnt exactly the greatest. All she wanted was her lucky t. and if she didnt get it she would cry. She acted like she was better than everyone. and i just didnt like it. UGH!

Have you ever cleaned your room/closet and decided to donate your excess clothes to charity? Maybe it was a mother-ordered mandate to get rid of the clutter? Whatever the reason or inspiration, did you ever give away something you didn't really mean to give? What would you do to get it back?
Carrie's mother does just that. She gives Carrie's favorite T-shirt to the Help India foundation. Unfortunately, the T-shirt is not just a T-shirt. It was given to Carrie by her father, and she superstitiously believes it is the reason for every success in her young life. She must get it back.
Since the T-shirt is traveling to India, Carrie makes arrangements to travel there, too. Carrie arrives at the Help India headquarters to find herself bunking with several roommates in a hostel. The roommates are horrible, and India is nothing like she expected. She is assigned to the group building homes in Calcutta. Needless to say, Carrie seriously lacks building trade skills. From dropping a hammer on her flip-flop-exposed big toe to dropping a boxful of nails in wet concrete, Carrie is not very popular at the building site.
Much to her relief, Carrie meets Dee, who tells her about his work at the Calcutta Children's Shelter. When she's offered a chance to start volunteering there, she decides anything is better than her current situation. Her work with children is the beginning of a new understanding for Carrie. Maybe the T-shirt isn't that important after all.
When I started LUCKY T, I was frustrated with the whining of main character Carrie. As the storyline began to unfold, though, it gained depth and purpose, and everything fell into place. Kate Brian gives readers a chance to watch the growth of Carrie and what her experience teaches her about exactly what things/people are important in life.

Fun Teen romance and glimpse into another culture.......2007-02-23
Very entertaining and fun romance appropriate for teens. Quick paced after an initial slow start. Once you get past the first 25 pages, the rest of the book is fantastic. I love the glimpses into India and how the heroine grows as a person when she looks outside of her normal comfortable life. Dee is a dream: handsome, nice, and smart. I wish there was more about Dee, would have liked more development of their relationship. The author is a great writer, she really knows how to take you to another place. I would read more of her books.
All About Luck.......2006-11-12
Carrie Fitzergald has been spoiled with luck all her life due to a lucky T-shirt her dad once gave her from a business trip. Now that T-shirt is gone, lost somewhere in India, after her mother accidentally gave it away as part of a charity donation. And Carrie's luck has gone with it: she's broken up with her boyfriend, had a fight with her bestfriend, and has gotten her first bad grade. So what will Carrie do? Travel to India to retreive her lucky T!
This is a cool, perky novel for every girl to try! Read the book to find out what happens to Carrie in India!

wonderful story.......2007-07-04
My daughter loves this story. Sure to be a favorite and a keeper in our family.
One of the best stories ever!.......2006-01-28
This is one of the most incredibly sweet and moving stories I have had the pleasure of listening to. Our school librarian read it to my class this week. The storyline of a young boy losing his teddy bear is compelling and engaging for young children. My class watched spellbound as they listened to what happened to both the boy and the bear after being separated. And rejoiced at the bear and the boy being reunited (though many had questions about the "old man" as the boy picked up the bear). The boy's unselfishness at allowing the "old man" to keep the bear rather than taking it back gave way to an intersting discussion after the story was over. For me, as an adult, it was very moving. I was nearly in tears by the time the story ended. The idea that an old man finds his only friend in a small stuffed bear is both endearing and sad at the same time. This is an incredible book that should be in anyone's library.
"All you need is Love".......2006-01-26
"Once upon a time," I had no use for children's literature. Then I had children. Now I am fascinated by the genre and the humanizing influence it can have on children and "grown-ups" alike. There are few writers in the business who can match McPhail's artistry. There are many silly, fun and entertaining children's books on the market-my favorites include "Don't Let the Pidgeon Drive the Bus," and "Click,Clack,Moo Cows that Type"- however, very few children's books can rival McPhail's enlightened and didactic treasures. "The Teddy Bear" contains some invaluable lessons for any person who aspires to become more fully human.
On a family trip a little boy accidently leaves his beloved teddy bear behind in a diner. By the time the parents take him back to retrive his best friend the bear has been thrown away. Anthropomorphizing the bear, the author poignantly describes the toy's despair. The bear is found by a "bearded man" (a homeless bum) who quickly befriends the toy. Out on the streets the two become inspeparable companions and as much as the bear missed his little boy he "...still felt loved."
Meanwhile, back in the warmth and security of his home, the boy learns to live without his most precious possession because, "He had new toys to occupy him and new friends to keep him busy."
The lessons learned in overcoming grief, loss, and the true meaning of love (i.e. sacrifice) are brought home at the end of this moving tale when the boy is finally reunited with his teddy bear. I won't give away the ending of this masterfully illustrated and poignant tale except to say that I sent a copy to school with my four-year-old and his teacher confided in me afterwards that she had to fight back her tears when she read the ending to the class. This book is without a doubt one of the greatest treasures available in the entire genre of children's literature.
Other McPhail classics include, "Emma's Pet," "Edward and the Pirates," and "Piggy's Pancake Parlor." These books are a must for all parents who truly want to delight and instruct their children.
sweet story we all can learn from.......2005-08-17
This book is about a little boy who loves his teddy bear very much. He takes him everywhere he goes. One day he leaves the bear behind on accident at a restaurant. The owners toss the bear in the trash where the bear is found by a homeless man. The little boy is very sad but over time replaces the bear with other toys. The bear has made the homeless man very happy. One day the man lays the bear on a bench and the little boy just happens to walk by and thee the bear! He's glad to see him and pick him up to take home with him. The homeless man is upset and start to make a big scene looking for the bear. The little boy is filled with compassion for the homeless man and returns the bear.
The book has a great theme of love and compassion.
The book can be used to spark lots of great discussions!
Compassion through a childs eyes...................2004-09-01
I love this book and think it's a great lesson in compassion that not just kids need to hear. All kids need to be encouraged to be kind and compassionate to everyone they meet much more than they need to be taught to fear strangers as so many books encourage. Be careful,be smart but also be kind, understanding and compassionate. If these are values that you hope for your child to have I would recommend reading them this book and reading it often. The story is great, not to long or to short the pictures are nice the size of the book is easy to handle and you feel all warm and fuzzy when your done reading it. What more can you ask for in a good kids book.

Wise Old Bess Knew The Truth!.......2007-03-27
The queen's gnarled fingers pinched the girl's baby-smooth cheeks. "Do not deceive yourself, Valentina," the wise and majestic old woman croaked. "Journey to the East if you will, but do not expect to remain cool and untouched forever. You are an O'Malley, like your cursed grandmother. Your will is strong, but your nature is hot and passionate."
Valentina St. Michaels determined to discover the secret of her birth. Though raised an Elizabethan noble, her mother was once a harem slave to a great sultan of India. Val has no wish to repeat her mother's sensual experiences, but when her trading fleet is wrecked in a storm fate tosses her from one devastatingly handsome man to another. Forced to yield to her own sensual nature in order to survive, Val soon discovers that wise old Queen Bess knew the truth about her passionate nature. But will Val become passion's master or a slave like her mother? Will she ever reclaim her royal identity? Will she discover love as well as pleasure?
Is this a different story?.......2004-04-17
This umpteenth sequel of the Skye O'Malley saga doesn't seem to be like a sequel, it's more like the same story with different names. The same goes for all the sequels of "Skye O'Malley". Heroine finds happiness, heroine is kidnapped by a cruel Eastern man and forced to be his slave (but sometimes she secretly enjoys it), then she is happily reunited with her beloved. The storyline is always the same, only the name of the characters change. Seems like the O'Malleys are genetically destined for the same fate. Ms Small needs to move on and come with something new.
A sidenote: I don't know why does Ms Small and lots of other romance writers think that women love these heartless macho guys. I wonder, maybe most of these writers are male under a female pseudonym? Anyway, I'm fed up and finished with them. Even a Stephen King novel can be more romantic than these "ooh I'm captured and raped and being humiliated an enjoy it soo much" books.
My favorite in the O'Malley Saga.......2000-06-16
Valentina is my favorite heroine in the O'Malley series and more like Skye than Skye's offspring is. When Valentina goes to court to serve Elizabeth I, I was heartbroken. Mrs. Small's exceptional writing and incredible detail showed me how the lively days of courtlife in Elizabeth's youth had dramatically changed and become a somber place as Elizabeth approached her last days. When a family secret is revealed, Valentina shows us her adventurous spirit and heads East! Her adventures are incredible! I appreciated how Mrs. Small touched on "The Kadin" through the duchy of San Lorenzo and reintroducing us to Esther Kira (who met Valentina's mother in "A Love for All Time"). Also, the appearance of Cica Pasha tied into "Love Wild and Fair." Wonderful! (A note to Mrs. Small: Since you have touched on Esther Kira so often, how about a book dedicated to her entire life. Just a thought.) I wept at least 3 times and was filled with anger, frustration, joy, fear, and triumph as Mrs. Small weaved her magic spell of words and phrases and pulled me into her story. If you haven't read the O'Malley series, you might get a little confused. You should at least read "A Love for All Time" which is the tale of Aidan, Valentina's mother, and is the basis of much of this book's plot.
One of my favorites in the Skye O'Malley saga.......2000-05-13
I truly enjoyed Valentina and thought her character better than Velvet and Jasmine. I loved how this book touched on so many other stories. The Mediteranean island where Janet Leslie was taken (see "The Kadin") and the return of Cica Pasha. (see "Love Wild and Fair"). Of course, I loved seeing Esther Kira again. Valentina is stronger than Aidan, but very much her mother's daughter. I can't say enough good things about this book. There is romance, adventure, and on-the-edge-of-your-seat-suspense.
one harem too many.......2000-04-12
Usually, I love Mrs. Small's books. Her description of theclothes, foods and dwelings of the medival/renissance period arewonderful and so are many of her supporting cast. BUT- after reading Skye O'Malley and AtST, I felt Valentina was a bit of a stupid character who was to stubborn to see the forest for the trees. Her father loves her, her cousin loves her but she has to go to the East and guess what? She ends up in a harem! (surprise, surprise!) These scences are one to many, rape is not appealing in a romance novel even if the heroine is 'betrayed by her body'. I really could bearly finish this one. :-(

Real life love stories that ring true in your heart.......2004-12-13
These real life love stories are filled with hope and longing. They reflect the longing that everyone feels to connect with another person--even if that person is in the distant past and the love is long remembered.
Real Love Stories As Heartrending As Romance Novels.......2004-04-17
These real-life stories prove that romance in reality is as intriguing, appealing and inspiring as love stories in novels. The twists and turns in these real lovers' lives kept me in suspense. I could identify with the female characters and empathize with the men. And I couldn't wait to see how the stories ended.
not this book.......2003-12-08
I too thought this was a different book. I have learned that the book I see all the time on talk shows, and last week in Dear Abby, was a book by Nancy Kalish, a psychologist, called Lost & Found Lovers. It is out of print but I found her web site, www.lostlovers.com, where you can still buy it new. And there's a cool message board there too.
I read kalish's book and loved it. It is more real - 1000 couples. Buy that one.
I must have read a different book!.......2003-07-01
When I first read all of the other reviews for this book, I had to double-check to make sure that I was writing about the same book! The stories in this paperback were so sappy and totally implausible, the book read like a fantasy novel (and a bad one at that). I'd love to believe in fated/pre-destined romance (believe me!), but one would have to really suspend their own sense of possiblility to "buy into" the stories in this book. I'm very sorry, because I really wanted this book to be great.
Wonderful Lost Love Stories.......2002-12-20
I and my beloved husband of 3 months are lost loves, reunited after 30 years of being apart. I love the stories in this book.

An excellent story! I whipped through this book and was disappointed when I was finished. I was not by any means disappointed because of the way it was written. I didn't want the story to end! I wanted to keep on reading about the new found romance. Fascinating, intriguing, intense and straight to the heart.

Dr. Kalish's renowned lost love research has garnered international media attention. She shows why rekindled romance has captured our imaginations and reveals factors to consider when thinking about a reunion. Many of her findings will surprise you!

Interesting stuff..........2007-10-03
What will really grab your attention is the high percentage of reunited lost loves that make it a permanent arrangement. However, bear in mind that this book is a reprint and the research is dated. Still, if you are contemplating contacting a lost love or have done so you will find many of Dr. Kalish's findings to ring very true to your situation. At times it was so right on that I had to put it down for a while. Fun read!
Reunited with my True Love over reunion.com and this book speaks the truth!.......2007-08-14
My Lost Love found me on reunion.com. We were a couple 10 years ago when we were 16 and haven't seen or spoken to each other in 8 years. Once I contacted him he called me right away. We talked for 3 hours that first night and many more afterwards. We couldn't wait to see each other and once we did, WOW! With all these emotions I had to understand if this was real or just a fling but I never felt the way I felt this way towards anyone before, it was real once I came across this book.
There were many excerpts that were identical between my LL and I. We don't know what fate lies before us but I know this book makes me think there may be promising outcomes in the future. The best thing is we both are not married nor have any kids.
He has been and always will be my true lost love and I am so thrilled to have rekindled with him (dajudge15). I highly recommend this book to those searching for their fist love or lost love. P.S. I even bought a book for him too.
True in every respect..........2007-05-12
As Willie Nelson once said, "Most folks aren't with their first choice. That's what keeps the juke-box playing."
The book is a compilation of research. It is not a novel or a book for those who just want stories to read. The heartbreaking parts are true as well. It might help others understand, but it is a 'must read' for parents of teenagers. Think twice before you get involved in your son or daughter's romance.
I stepped off an airplane and proposed after more than 22 years. About a year later, I found this book. Everything in it is exactly as Dr. Kalish describes. In our case, it was my mother that got between us, and we were under the age of 17, just as the research predicts. It's been almost six years now and we're as happy as ever.
Today I consider myself extremely lucky. Other people will not understand. If the book is right, they can't. It truly is a case of "you had to be there." Knowing why I feel this way does not diminish it one bit. In fact, we both see ourselves more clearly in some ways. The reviewer who said that she know that she shouldn't contact her ex is also probably right and so is the ex-husband who found the book helpful. You would have to read the book to understand the paradox. Our situation worked out the best for us and for those around us. It is not always like that.
Read This Book First.......2006-08-16
This is a terrific book. It explained so much to me and made me feel less crazy! The author has done real research; she's a psychologist, not a journalist or celebrity or psychic. The science is real. I am not a new age, crystal loving, past lives believer - where is the evidence for that stuff? But this survey data is real and explains so much!
I read her new book, just released, The Lost Love Chronicles, before this one. It's an ebook collection of stories that I bought at her web site. The stories in that book are amazing. Then I found this book. The two books compliment each other, but I'd recommend reading Lost & Found Lovers first, then the ebook. That way you will see how the topic has changed.
This stuff is no joke.......2006-06-20
I bought this book after my first love from high school found me on classmates.com. This book helped me to put things in perspective and to deal with powerful emotions I haven't felt since then. If you're not in a position to consumate an old love, please don't look for him or her.
We found each other again, but we were not in a position to do much about it. So in the end we're both torn, longing and full of heartache. Who wants to live like that?

Tug of Love.......2002-12-17
When a lab turns up and is claimed by two people, and a famous mutt stays at King Street Kennels the Parkers have trouble over their heads. This wonderful story will keep you on the edge of your seat as Neil tries to find out who Jason, aka Junior, really belongs to. The story is very exciting: Junior's old owners take him back when he runs off at a local dog show, and move away the next day. But a lab breeder, who rightfully own the dog, wants him back. Over all it was a good book, but I didn't like the ending that much. Even though Jason belonged to Westons, they got rid of him and he found a new home that would be more suitable. Any way, the breeder had papers and it was officially his dog. I thought their plan to "share" Jason was very unrealistic. It's also not fair to the dog to be torn between two families.

Thank you, Asya!.......2007-01-19
This is a REAL book about a REAL person, Asya, who so candidly, yet carefully unfolds a story that takes the reader through time and across cultural and international boundaries! I thoroughly enjoyed hearing Asya's voice as I read. With the photos from her life included, it was easy to hear her telling me her story and delivering her laws...the wisdom she developed in her lifelong quest for real love. I appreciate her honesty and vulnerability in depicting how she regarded herself throughout this quest and in each of her roles - a girl looking for love, a lover, a wife, a daughter, a mother, etc. Her own perspective on Latvia and Latvians and America and Americans is also interesting to observe as it changes from beginning to end. Thank you, Asya, for going for it with this book!
FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE.......2006-10-13
In this world of virtual and mediated reality, Latvian-born Asya Raines has brought decades of memories to life. From tales of her mother as a WWII Soviet freedom fighter blowing up Nazi trucks, to the post War Russian occupation to a late 1970s consolation prize trip to Bulgaria that began with a yearning to see Yugoslavia, to perestroika and her eventual emigration to the United States, she enlightens us with her perceptions and charms us with her perseverance. A book that merits multiple reads!
Lesson's learned!.......2006-09-28
I would like to thank Asya for finding the courage to write about her life. It was not only educational and interesting, but it helped me to realize that we can all "choose" the life we live. No one has to be a victim if they don't want to be. Also, she gives great advice in love! An inspirational book that I would recommend to any and all who love to read or love!
A great book to share with friends and family........2006-09-25
I really, truly enjoyed this book. It feels like Asya is sitting next to you telling her story - and she's so warm, and so honest, that you become engrossed in her tale. I picked the book up on a Friday evening, and finished it in a few hours. A great book to share with friends and family - of any age.
Sex and the City, Latvian-style. .......2006-09-16
Carrie Bradshaw and the girls gave us a peek into the challenges, heartbreak, friendship, and love that is life in Manhattan. Asya lets us see and feel those same emotions and experiences that made up her life in Riga. She even describes her version of the Hamptons. Asya entertains as she talks with us, she also educates. My lesson? While there are clearly interesting intellectual and cultural differences, when it comes to matters of the heart and soul we are all clearly One. Brava!
