Book Description
This book is the "bible" on the subject of Reef Aquarium keeping, covering the biology of coral reefs and relating it to the biological, chemical, and physical parameters considered when creating a reef aquarium. The book details how to successfully cultivate corals in captivity and also features the identification and care of numerous coral and giant clam species. Diseases and parasites, and methods for controlling algae are also featured. The book finishes with an exciting section of photographs demonstrating successful reef aquariums.

Great advice.......2005-10-14
New hobbyist should read this book for advice, then read it again in 6 months.
Wonderful Stony Coral and Clam Reference.......2005-06-09
The good?
This book is truly a comprehensive piece covering probably more than you want to know at times. For example, it explains the chemical reactions that occur during calcification of corals and why additions are necessary.
After reading many other references, I must say I am very happy I purchased this volume. Contained in these pages are insights you won't find anywhere else.
The book clearly explains the setup and maintenance procedures required to be successful in stony coral reef keeping.
The bad?
My main gripe is trivial. Guys, how about a larger font size and pictures? I had to do a lot of squinting.
It could do with a minor revision of some references that are dated (such as collection of live rock from Florida) as the original was 1994, but make no mistake that all information is relevant.
In summary...
Obviously at this price it is unfortunately out of reach of the casual hobbyist, which is a shame. However, one could buy this book instead of various "reference manuals" which might be the same at the end of the day.
Buy it if you can afford it.
I also highly recommend Eric Borneman's Aquarium Corals book.
Perhaps the best book on reef care.......2005-05-16
An exceptional book on the subject. It is comprehensive but I would not say not complete as no book on this subject could be. Still I believe this book to be the best work compiled in book form. Described by many as "the Bible" on the subject it indeed may be but it is not dogmatic as it offers several options and methods and leaves it for the aquarist to use.
(Note: This volume covers stony corals and not soft corals).
When I started keeping marine aquaria keeping back in 1970 one almost had to employ the skills of a chemist. In those days most people in the hobby thought it nearly impossible to care for many of the species of coral now commonly kept. It was only through the encouragement of a local public aquarium (the John G. Shedd Aquarium) whereas a high school student I was able to participate in collecting trips that I got the encouragement to experiment. I started out with Robert Straughan's books back in 1970 which both helped to get me in trouble and helped me grow as an aquarist. both In those days there was an awful lot of trial and error. Later in the late 70's I helped to pioneer some techniques when I worked for the Steinhart Aquarium in San Francisco. In those days in San Francisco I worked for one of the largest marine fish wholesalers in the world. We had a lot of shipments that went off to Germany and now I wonder if some of the species that passed through my hands ended up in the hands of the authors. Somewhat of a revolution went of in the hoby in the 1980 thanks in part to the efforts of the Germans. Thankfully the hobby is now much more of a discipline and a lot more humane. It is quite amazing how far the hobby has come. I am sure the hobby will continue to evolve. This is a pricey book but it is a pricey hobby and this book is one of the best, if not the best, books on the subject available. The best place to start with the hobby is a book like this one.
Helpful books.......2001-12-10
In some reviews the two volumes of "The Reef Aquarium" have been named "the bible of reef aquarists". This makes you expect a lot, but my expectations have not been disappointed in any way. Describing the natural habit at in the coral reef, explaining the established reef aquarium systems or introducing the suitable aquarium inhabitants - in these two books I found it all. Even here in Germany those two books are known as a German translation, and they're successful.
The Questions Are Answered.......2001-12-05
This book should be an example by which all other marine and reef aquarium books follow. Current and relavant information from cover to cover. This is the stuff you need to know if you are serious about being successful in this hobby. Great book but a great group of people.
Book Description
This second volume in the series features the anemones and soft corals associated with reefs, detailing their biology and husbandry requirements, and featuring numerous species descriptions, with the benefit of wonderful color photographs. Also featured is new information regarding parasites in reef aquariums, and captive culture of anemones and soft corals. The book finishes with another section featuring more stunning images of reef aquariums around the world.

A Must for any Salt Water Aquarium Household.......2007-07-13
My husband took a dive into the Saltwater Aquarium world. ALL of Sprung's books are a must have. They have a lot of info and definitely is a great resource. Well worth the price. It has been referenced many times throughout the saltwater aquarium evolution.
not a beginner book.......2006-03-09
This book goes indepth about the anatomy and physiology of mushrooms, soft corals and anemones. Not a great reference guide for choosing specimens for your It tends to generalize by family and/or genus vs species. If you are new to saltwater and are looking for a reference to choose items for your tank this would not be my first choice.
THE reference for that field.......2005-10-06
Just like the vol. 1, that is a must-have book. Please note that the vol. 3 should be released late Nov. 2005.

One of the best of the best vol.2.......2005-05-16
This volume of the series covers the soft corals and sea anemones; very important topics indeed for reef aquarium. The two books together are still not complete as there are many organisms found in a reef aquaria still not covered. In this series. A fine glossary accompanies this book. Much of what I had to gleen by trial and error and by reading arcane publications over the years is covered in this book. Approachable to the beginner yet a lot of substance for the expert.

Book Description
For seventeen years, Elaine served her master, Satan, with total commitment. Then she met Dr. Rebecca Brown, who served her master, Jesus Christ, with equal commitment. Elaine, one of the top witches in the U.S., clashed with Dr. Brown, who stood against her alone. In the titanic life-and-death struggle that followed, Dr. Brown nearly lost her life. Elaine, finding a power and love greater than anything Satan could give her, left Satan and totally committed her life to Jesus Christ. In this honest, in-depth account of Satan's activities today, you'll see how to recognize and combat the many satanists who regularly infiltrate and destroy Christian churches; recognize and combat satanic attacks; and recognize those serving Satan, and bring them to Jesus Christ.

a brutal reality check.......2007-10-05
This book is bone-chilling. I believe every word of it. Scripture says in 1 Peter 5:8: "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walketh about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour". If we could only get a mere passing glimpse of how desperately satan and his fallen angels hate our guts, we would see our surroundings through different eyes. Jesus did not die for the fallen angels, and they are jealous beyond description. They passionately hate God and want to take as many of us away from Him as possible. Get this book; digest this book. You will wake up to a different reality than you had the day before you read it.

Dr. Brown gives a very detailed and true look at the occult. As someone who was saved and set free from this, I can atest to the things she writes about. The Body of Christ must understand this reality, but understand Satan has already been defeated! I have many similar stories in both my books.Beyond The Darkness Warring With The Word
Phenominal!.......2007-08-27
I have read this book and studied it for use along with several others by this same author. Dr. Brown's experiences will continue to speak healing and truth into those I share this with who are caught up in the deceptions of the occult. This supernatural and TRUE adventure isn't for the faint of heart... but will strenthen you if you allow it. Jesus Christ will ALWAYS be the God above all gods!
Not a credible account -- beware .......2007-08-20
I have read this book several times and have written to the author to get her story as well. The author's real name is Ruth Bailey, who had her medical license revoked in the state of Indiana. She also got in trouble with the medical board for giving her patients an unusually high dose of Demerol, for having delusions about patients suffering from demonic oppression, and for repeatedly misdiagnosing her patients. (All these findings have been documented by Bob and Gretchen Passantino and researcher John Baskette in the Answers in Action website, along with investigative research by Rev. G. Richard Fisher and other pastors, and Pastor Charles Younts. These are people who have done their research and spoken to the authors in person. Just Google: Rebecca Brown or Ruth Bailey and you'll find these links).
I am in no way a Satanist (but a born-again believer in Christ who is vehemently opposed to Satanism). The author claims that her account is factual, and it is important for readers to determine whether her findings are factual and to discern truth from error. After doing research on her background and reading through her book, I came to the conclusion that much of what she wrote is fabricated. Reviewers, be careful not to label any dissenters as Satanists unless you have done your research on this author.
I have read numerous credible accounts on Satanism and would highly recommend books by Clinton Arnold on demons and spiritual warfare. Bob and Gretchen Passantino has also written a carefully researched guide on Satanism. One of the best studies on Satan and demons is the book Powers of Evil by Sydney Page. C. Fred Dickason has written some excellent works on angels and demon-possession. These authors are much more credible sources.
I agree with the other reviewers who have so eloquently described the inconsistencies and delusional accounts described in this book. "Rebecca Brown" describes personal encounters with Satan, her encounters with werewolves, etc. Some of these claims are very hard to believe. Those who have done research on the real "Elaine" have discovered that she has been prone to fabricating stories to get attention.
The Bible tells us to "test all things; hold fast to what is good. Avoid every kind of evil" (1 Thess. 5: 21 NKJV). That is very good advice to heed. Carefully do your own research on the author and her claims. The good book tells us to be wise and discerning about truth and error. The Bible warns, "A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who tells lies will not escape" (Prov. 19:5).
An expose of DEMONIC activities!.......2007-08-15
I'm a Christian who has researched these topics and I think that this book is true, even the unusual parts. This book is an expose of the activities done in secret by the servants of demonic entities. It is interesting to see the number of 1-star ratings for this book. I know 1-star ratings and this book is not one of them. I suspect that the very people exposed in this book are behind this...smear.
Know the satanic activities done in secret by those who have sold their selves to demons. Jesus was right when he said that things that are spoken and done in secrecy would be exposed to light. This book is hard to accept and difficult to understand but you have to realize that the forces behind these activities are real. They exist in another realm.
I think this book should be read by those interested in the covert activities of Satanic servants. This is one of the only ways you'll ever find out, the media sure as hell aren't going to tell ya!
Book Description
A captive insurance company is, in a nutshell, an insurance company formed by a business owner to insure the risks of the operating business. The operating business pays premiums to the captive, and the captive insures the risks of the operating business. A captive is much more than an exotic form of self-insurance: It is the creation of a new insurance company that has the potential to grow from being a mere captive into a full-blown insurance company seeking to profit from underwriting the risks of others. Adkisson's Captive Insurance Companies provides a basic introduction to captives and their benefits, including: utilize your own experience ratings; recapture underwriting profits; underwrite exposed risks and deductibles; access the reinsurance markets; and transfer wealth between generations. This book also provides a unique look at the wealth transfer, accumulation and preservation advantages of captives, as well as an overview of the types of captives, taxation of captives, and captive domiciles.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent starting point.......2007-03-09
Jay Adkisson's book on captive insurance companies is a good starting point for anyone who wants an overview of an often overlooked or misunderstood subject. The book is a little heavy on statutes and some case law, but otherwise gives an excellent introduction to the benefits and risks of establishing and maintaining these structures.
Very Helpful.......2007-01-23
I'm in the process of determining whether a captive makes sense for my company. Mr. Adkisson's guide is very imformative. He is a little weak in his pure insurance knowledge but the concepts are more creative and thorough than others I have researched.
Great Intro to Captives.......2006-12-19
As an advisor, I've had clients repeatedly ask me about captive insurance companies but I didn't know much more about them and simply referred them to people like Jay who dealt with them. They always seemed like a "black box" planning technique where the secrets of how they worked were hidden from the unitiated. With this book, Jay opens that box and gives a great explanation of what captive insurance companies are, how they work, what it takes to get them licensed, how they are taxed, what policies they can issue, where they can be formed, and a bunch of other stuff that helps advisors like me understand the basic concept. I think this would be a great book to give as a gift to clients who were interested in captives as it explains their benefits -- and limitations -- quite clearly.

A must book for any enthusiasts on amphibians captive care.......2007-08-01
A must book for any enthusiasts or veterinarian. It is the first serious book on amphibians medicine. It also covers some interesting chapters on captive care and rearing.
Medical degree needed!.......2007-05-27
I bought this book when I had a sick newt on my hands and wanted to get some deeper insights as to what may be wrong. Even the vets I took my pet to were mostly unable to help much, so I tried to take matters into my own hands, at least this way when I went to the vet, I'd be able to bring some ideas and understandings to the table. Let me add that I am a science teacher, so I am no dummy with respect to scientific understanding, but my background is NOT in biology, which is what's essential in the understanding of this book. Also, the book is not meant for "lay people", such as myself, but rather veterinary or medical students. Now I see why. The book was very expensive, which I didn't mind if it had helped, and very difficult to underdstand. The book had very little information with respect to newts in general and rather focused on other amphibians such as frogs. There were very few pictures or chapters/paragraphs even devoted to newts. I wish there had been a copy of the book in a library for me to check out beforehand, as I would not have purchased the book if I did. I'm sure for a vet student the book is probably wonderful, but for someone with no biology background trying to search for some specific answers, it fell way short.
An invaluable title for veterinarians.......2001-12-13
Kevin Wright and Brent Whitaker's Amphibian Medicine And Captive Husbandry is a comprehensive, in-depth, scholarly reference manual designed to introduce and assist veterinary practitioners in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in captive amphibians. However, it also serves as an invaluable, core addition to the library of any herpetologist, breeder or pet owner of an amphibian, for it extensively covers numerous details of the care, feeding, and reproduction of captive amphibians, as well as disease diagnosis, basic clinical techniques for treatment. The many diseases discussed include sicknesses that are infectious, metabolic, nutritional, neoplastic, and idiopathic. 243 color pictures, 317 black and white pictures, and 54 tables greatly enhance the meticulous and highly precise text of this exhaustively complete reference. An invaluable title for veterinarians and/or owners of amphibians.
Comments from co-editor Dr. Kevin Wright.......2001-10-17
Hello, I am Dr. Kevin Wright, co-editor of Amphibian Medicine and Captive Husbandry. Given the global decline of amphibian populations noted at the end of the 20th century, Dr. Whitaker and I designed Amphibian Medicine and Captive Husbandry to introduce the diagnosis and treatment of disease in amphibians to a wide range of audiences. Although our primary intent was to provide a practical but thorough text for the veterinary clinician, we believe this book will be an essential part of any biologist's library; the topics covered range from amphibian captive husbandry and propagation to the diagnosis of disease in amphibians by the application of basic clinicopathologic techniques. Topics are arranged by etiology. The pathology section is highly detailed and provides the only overview of amphibian pathology published.
Recognizing that the understanding of veterinary medicine is facilitated by illustrations, Amphibian Medicine and Captive Husbandry includes 243 color pictures, 317 black and white figures, and 54 tables.
We highly recommend this book to any individual, institution or organization that works with captive or wild amphibians: veterinary clinicians, comparative pathologists, veterinary students, herpetologists, herpetoculturists, zoos, aquariums, biomedical research facilities, and libraries.

Must, must, MUST buy this book!.......2002-06-12
This book is the Bible for anyone who wants to go into marine mammal training. It provides info on training techniques and vocabulary, types of behaviors trained, steps in training, articles written by several trainers around the country on puzzling subjects, and much more. I can't begin to describe how helpful this book has been to me. It is written in a very upfront and understandable fashion. It's easy to read and you find yourself reading it over and over again. I carry this book with me wherever I go. A definte must-have! Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
The Trainer's Trainer.......2002-05-01
If you think you know anything about animal (dog) training, you might be surprised at how much you still have to learn after reading this book. If you are serious about training, this book is a "must read". If you think the book is too long, then you cannot possibly be a serious trainer. Ken- thanks for sharing your knowledge. You have given us the greatest gift of all.
A Valuable Resource for the Novice or Advanced Trainer.......2001-01-17
If you have an interest in animal training then you will find this book a valuable addition to your personal or professional library.
This book is a compilation of columns and previous articles by professional trainers AND clear explanations concerning basic and advanced training concepts.
Ken has taught animal training to students and trainers and has been very active in the marine animal training community for a number of years. As a result, his effort in compiling this book will give you insights into both wild and domestic animal training, operant conditioning, application of training priniciples, and clarification of terms.
As someone who has been in the wild and domestic animal training field for over 22 years I can honestly say you would be doing yourself a favor to add this one to your library.
Animal Training: Successful Aniaml Management Through Positi.......2000-09-26
I found this book very informative. This book broke training methods and techniques down to a beginners level, but went indepth enough for the expert trainer. Having the combination of papers and forum talks from IMATA conferences and information about training marine mammals made this a very good all around reference book. I recommend this book to experienced trainers, novice trainers, students doing research and people who just want to know about marine mammal training.
Customer Reviews:
Gilbert Morris is my all-time *favorite* series/saga writer!.......2001-03-26
The House of Winslow series is one of the best series I've ever read. They chronicle the life of the Winslows, a fictional family with major historical implications. Gilbert Morris is a wonderful, detailed writer, easily mixing real and fictional people. Mostly, the books pertain to the Methodist faith, though not always.
This set of books covers ground from 1620-1776.
'The Honorable Impostor' is the first book. It begins with Gilbert Winslow, a wayward pastor with ties to the Church of England. He is asked to infiltrate a group of Puritans and help "bring them to justice under the King's law". Through a series of events, he ends up coming, quite unwillingly, to the New World with the group, thereby establishing the House of Winslow in America.
'The Captive Bride' covers two generations of Winslows. Matthew, Gilbert's son, breaks his parents' hearts and is sent off to England to find his roots. Instead, he finds a wife and a heap of trouble. He loses his mind in prison and leaves a heartbroken, pregnant wife to go back to his father. Rachel Winslow grows up without a father in Salem amidst the crazed witch trials. When an unexpected piece of the past confronts her, she has nowhere to turn but God.
'The Indentured Heart' chronicles the life of Adam Winslow, Rachel's nephew. Cruelly abused by a stepmother who's jealous of him, Adam is sent to live with his older brother. He goes into business with his half-brother, Charles, and cousin, Saul. On a fact-finding mission back to England, he finds another abused soul and brings her back as an indentured servant. Charles and Saul try every trick they know to make off with the dark Winslow's part of the business, but end up helping him more than they could ever know.
'The Gentle Rebel' begins right before the American Revolution. It concerns two cousins--Nathan, the son of Adam, and Paul, son of Charles--who are on different sides of the war. When Nathan's younger brother becomes an early casualty of the war, Nathan vows to fight in his place. He has a new "little brother", Laddie, who has a secret of his own.
'The Saintly Buccaneer' finishes out Paul Winslow's story. Paul is Impressed into the British Navy after a hard night of drinking. He wakes up on a ship with a soft-hearted captian and his beautiful daughter with no memory of himself or his horrible past. When the British ship clashes with an American ship on the high seas, he meets someone who sparks a memory--as well as shame.
The Winslow Books are the best!.......2000-05-28
I think that the Winslow series is the best that I have read so far. They leave you in suspense until the end and surprise you sometimes. I would suggest if yoiu like romance and suspense to definetly read this series. I love the Winslow series!
It was interesting but repeated it self........1999-06-03
I liked these books they taught you quite a lot about history and I liked the way the story went through the generations .The story line is pretty predictable when it comes to their love life. I definitely think #1 was the best. You should read them but if you don't like book one then you probably won't like the rest.

Book Description
THE MALORYS RETURN!
Johanna Lindsey sweeps readers into the dazzlingly passionate world of the incomparable Malorys, an aristocratic family of rakehell adventurers and spirited ladies -- which turns ever more tempestuous when James Malory introduces the daughter of a pirate to London society.
Gabrielle Brooks sets sail from England to a Caribbean island in search of her estranged father and encounters a life-altering surprise -- her father is a pirate! After spending three wonderful years hunting treasure with him, Gabrielle is dismayed when he decides she must return to London to find a proper husband. His old friend James Malory will sponsor her in polite society. Gabrielle is escorted to balls and parties by James's wife, Georgina, and her brother, Drew Anderson, a dashing American sea captain and fun-loving rogue. When Drew embroils Gabrielle in a scandal the night before he's to sail home, the pirate's daughter vows revenge by commandeering Drew's ship and taking him prisoner. But as passion runs high on their sea voyage, it becomes difficult to tell who is truly the captor and who is the captive.

What happened!!.......2007-08-30
I could hardly believe that Ms. Lindsey wrote this! There was nothing to this story... To me it read like, and then they, and then she, and then he... the characters were ALL 2 dimensional. Was it even believable that the hero really fell in love with the heroine at the end? I really didn't care, since it read more like a manual than a romance. Disappointment doesn't begin to describe my reaction to this book!
Captive of My Desires.......2007-08-13
I love Johanna Lindsey so I really enjoy her books. I can't wait to read the new one out.
Best Malory Novel Yet.......2007-08-05
This book is the latest installment to Lindseys Malory series. Its about a women named Gabrielle whose father is a pirate in the Caribbean and has sent her to James Malory in London to find a suitable husband, she ends up meeting James wife's brother named Drew and the rest is how their turbulent romance evolves.
This book was the first Johanna Lindsey novel that I read, and I have to say that if I didn't like this book as much as I did I would never have attempted to read the other Malory novels. Lindsey has the ability to make you fall in love with her characters and keep you entertained all the while. This is by far my favorite Malory novel and I don't believe at all that Lindsey is loosing her touch. I highly recommend this book and all of the Malory novels if you are looking for a good read.
Fun book, not too deep.......2007-08-01
I liked this book. It did remind me of her previous work. However, I hadn't read anything by Johanna Lindsey in a long time so I wasn't disappointed that it was similar to other books. This is a definitely a book that you check out from the library or buy used (like I did).
Very Disappointed.......2007-07-30
Sadly, this is the most disappointing of the Malory novels. I found the characters undeveloped and rather boring. Johanna Lindsey's previous Malory novels were much more exciting and the characters were very likeable despite their flaws. In this latest installment, Drew was mostly morose, brooding and not very likeable at all and I found Gabrielle shallow and silly while the dialogue between her and Drew not very exciting. The best parts of the story included the characters from her previous novels like James, Tony and Georgiana.

In a small village outside of Phnom Pehn, little children as young as five years old were forced to live as sex slaves. Day after day their hope was slipping away. Tireless workers from International Justice Mission (IJM) infiltrated the ring of brothels and gathered evidence to free the children. Headed up by former war-crimes investigator Gary Haugen, IJM faced impossible odds-police corruption, death threats, and mission-thwarting tip-offs. But they used their expert legal finesse and high-tech investigative techniques to save the lives of 37 young girls and secured the arrest and conviction of several perpetrators. Terrify No More focuses on this dramatic rescue story, and uses flashbacks to tell those of many other victims who were given a second chance at life by this amazing organization.
Readers of John Grisham and Ted Dekker novels will appreciate the suspense, plot twists, and relentless pursuit of justice found in the true story of Terrify No More.

Disappointment.......2007-09-06
This book is a great disappointment. Buying this book I thought to obtain some serious information on the subject. I didn't expect to buy some superficial nonsence of a local U.S. sect. To European standards Gary Haugen's prostelitizing is appalling obscene and self serving and in this IJM is to be considered a dangerous sect. Don't buy this book.
Painful, powerful book -- may change your life.......2007-08-19
Sometimes enlightenment comes like a cold slap in the face. That's what this book delivers -- stories of abuse and oppression that most people don't know exist in our world today. I didn't. But Haugen and Hunter, in a style that is smooth and suspenseful, tell the stories of numerous victims of slavery and oppression who were helped through brave undercover operations by true-life heroes. At times heart-breaking and painful, at others joyful and celebretory, this book is hard to put down. You won't want to, but you will want to give copies to your friends. Nicely done. Thanks for helping me to understand the world just a little bit better outside my own whitewashed life.
Julia L. Truelove Needs to Get a Life.......2006-12-29
The review by Julia L. Truelove is one of the most ridiculous and unintelligible rants that I have ever read. It is clear that the reader approached this book with a strong bias of quasi-christian hatred and had already made up her mind before she got passed the cover. The author of this book has a Harvard law degree and previously worked for the U.S. Department of Justice. Thus, if he wanted to attain distinction and/or accumulate wealth for himself, there were many avenues at his disposal that would have been far easier and yielded greater returns then starting an organization to stand up for forgotten children of third world countries. Her attack that the author has created the International Justice Mission (which has rescued hundreds of children from underground commercialized rape and prosecuted their aggressors) only to garner prestige and money for himself is completely asinine. Her extremely thoughtful and innovative solution at the beginning of her diatribe is to simply inform the U.S. government and put things in the hands of politicians because, as we all know, that is usually the most effective way to fix any problem. First of all, the author of the book talks extensively in chapter 25 about how he and others have put pressure on the U.S. government to substantively confront these problems. He mentions how the American public needs to be made aware of the evil that lives in this world in order that they too might take it up with their government. Also, mentioned in Haugen's other book, Good News About Injustice, is the forced child prostitution that has existed, and does exist, in the United States. (I believe that this is mentioned in Terrify No More as well, but I am not 100% certain.) The author's purpose in writing this book was obviously awareness, not literary distinction, and I give him kudos for it. Gary Haugen saw the aftermath of a terrible genocide in Rwanda and decided to do something tangible and effective to confront the injustice and the abuses of power that run rampant in this world. Why is this so disturbing to Julia L. Truelove? I guess it's because the guy is a christian, a christian of the worst kind, one that actually does something with his convictions to help and love other people besides just going to church on Sundays. I don't understand why it is such a deeply troubling idea to tell a child that has had the concepts of love and affection perverted in the most despicable of ways that there is a God that cares about her with a perfect holy love. Julie's allocations that Haugen condemns Vietnam as a sinful nation because it is non-christian is ludicrous, especially since the book is centered around an operation that takes place in CAMBODIA. One of the main parts of IJM's whole mission is to get the honorable people of a certain country to uphold honorable laws that by and large already exist but are not being enforced. She goes on to mention President Bush, the Iraq War, and mistreatment of Native Americans to try and bolster her argument but forgets that they have no relevance to the work she is commenting on. Terrify No More really is a compelling book about a terrific and successful organization that has committed itself to stand up and fight for the oppressed who would otherwise have no voice. IJM is a christian ministry that truly lives out Christ's example in a bold, loving, and tangible way and has brought hope to many. This should not be something to be feared or ridiculed, but rather embraced and supported. Those who actually read the book, and at least have one foot in reality, will see what I'm talking about.
Terrible yet captivating.......2006-11-28
Haugen, Gary A. Terrify No More. Nashville, TN. W Publishing Group. 2005.
This riveting book by Gary A. Haugen, founder and president of the International Justice Mission(IJM), first-handedly tells the story of a mission proposed by members of IJM, to rescue child sex slaves from Savy Pak, a city in Cambodia that is infamous for its sex trafficking and sex tourism. IJM is a non-profit organization that fights for justice in a world riddled with injustice. This book is amazing as the reader is placed in the middle of the action. However, the content of the book can be extremely disturbing as one reads of the conditions and terrors that these young children face; but there is an amazing sense of hope that comes through to let the reader know that this is not a hopeless case, there is something that is being done. This book traces chronologically the path that IJM took to rescue a few of the millions of children that are trapped in the sex trade. Photos of the children and the conditions help the reader grasp reality through pictures. The book is geared towards those of the college age and older; an easy read that emphasizes the cause of justice in an unjust world. This book gave me a first hand account of the fight against sex trafficking which is what my senior thesis is discussing, I used this book as a basis to understnd more about the sex trade, and those who fight against it.
Excellent book.......2006-09-03
Excellent book! The subject matter is tough to handle at times, but I've bought this book for a few friends because it is so good.

For Corinne, it's the barbarian Mykhayl from a world long ago. Devilishly sensual warriors, Jarred and Mykhayl have something in common themselves-they're both more real than their creators could have imagined. Fearing that the sisters are about to write them off, Jarred and Mykhayl decide to exact sweet revenge. The plan? Kidnap Celeste and Corinne, spirit them away to the very worlds of which they wrote, and persuade them to surrender to the sublime punishments of their own uninhibited imaginations.

captive dreams.......2007-08-03
I bought this book because of Angela, I have her other books and I love her stories. This book was awesome.
Couldn't Angela Knight have written both??.......2007-05-16
I bought this book because I like Angela Knight. But, I couldn't get over some of the phrasing the author of 'Bound by the Dragon used...'woman's jewel', 'yoni's petals'. AAagh! It drove me nuts. And Angela Knight's contribution to this book is about 1/4 the length of the other author's. Boooooo!!! This book did have a really neat concept & plot line though.
Captive Dreams.......2007-05-08
The Plot: Two sisters who both happen to be writers are kidnapped by the characters they created. It's a really interesting premise.
Bound by The Dragon by Diane Whiteside
The good points: The author pulls you into a fully developed world rich in history and color. Her hero was most attractive really tall and handsome with waist length red hair. And he's a king! The characters were likable and honorable. By the end, I felt liked they truly knew each other and loved one another.
The negative points: This book is so steeped in magic, spells, talismans, etc. that many times I felt like I was reading a sequel and I badly needed the first novel to explain what was going on. After a while, I just didn't care and only wanted to finish it so that I could move on to the next novel.
Bound by the Dream by Angela Knight
The good points: This one is more straightforward and crisply written than the first novel. The love scenes are hot. I breezed through this one.
The negative points: I would have liked to know more about his world than just a vague description of his ship and a trip to one planet. Jared's form of revenge is turn Celeste over to his friend so that she might become a submissive. Can't say that that endeared him to me very much. Even when he realizes that he cares for her, he sticks to this plan. He doesn't want her getting hurt by staying by his side. Evidently in the future, there are very few job options for women since he couldn't come up with any better alternatives. My main complaint is about a sex scene between the heroine, the hero, and his friend. It's something I would have liked to know about before I purchased this book. I probably would not have bought it especially from amazon since I wouldn't want them recommending this type of book to me again.
I gave this book 4 stars because despite my complaints, I really did enjoy both adventures.
Not so bad !!!!.......2007-04-10
I am a big fan of Angela Knight's and was a little disappointed when it came to her story.
As for Diane Whiteside, I was very impressed with her story in the beginning more so than Angela's.
Great read none-the-less. Stayed up all night reading the first story..
Captive Dreams.......2007-04-10
Erotic. I liked how the two authors combined a story into one. Each author told their own tale, but linked the stories in the beginning and end. The story of two sisters, both writers, whose characters really exist. The writers have no idea and assumed their characters were figments of their imaginations, when in actuality, they were beings from other dimensions, whose lives have been manipulated by the sisters. They exact their revenge when they find a spell to enter into the sister's world, kidnapped them, and bring them back to their own separate dimensions.
Of course, sex slave, is on their mind, but the girls have a way of turning the tables on them. Very satisfying book. Not meant for the prude at heart.
