5 out of 5 stars Just amazing.......2007-09-27

I looked at the book for a whole day before I took a big breath and started reading it. This book will probably save my relationship that I was about to quit. It even gave me more ways to appreciate my significant other. To be read as soon as difficulties occur. It will either save your relationship before the worst of it grows on you or will prevent you from staying in an unhappy relationship.
If your are willing to find your truth, open this book, easy to read, and so practical.

5 out of 5 stars Simple and to the point.......2007-09-24

I already knew where I was at when I bought this book. I was as the book says in "limbo" and it was time to make a decision. I could either stay and try to put my all into it all or leave and start new. Well I decided to leave, because that is the direction I had been headed for awhile, and I just couldn't stay. It was a good choice, a scary one. The book was super to the point and the stories of others definately made me feel not alone.
Personally I choose to be happy and live life to the fullest and not let anything hold me back. I wasn't happy so I did what I needed to.
Hope this helps...

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely helpful!.......2007-09-24

After years of spending a small fortune on marriage guidance, consultants, psychologists, and every other useless adviser on the planet - along came this wonderful book. The book takes the reader through a clear, concise, PRACTICAL, step-by-step approach to making that life changing decision of whether to recommit to or leave a relationship. I found the book to be a breath of fresh air in the choking confusion that accompanies such a decision.

1 out of 5 stars Not a book for people looking for solutions.......2007-09-23

This book simlifies marital problems too much - and it seems the author is more in favor of marraiges ending then staying together. I think this book should come with a warning label - buyer beware!

5 out of 5 stars Confirmed what I had already decided.......2007-09-14

The only error I made with this book is not having purchased it before now! I never realized that I was stuck for years in relationship ambivalence, and was still feeling ambivalent when I ordered the book. I had filed for divorce by the time the book arrived, but decided to read it anyway.

I discovered that the author comprehensively described some of the problems in my marriage in a way that no one else had given voice to before, and I received confirmation that though my decision has been and will continue to be very difficult because of my children, it will ultimately be the right decision.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who needs clarity about their relationship.

This book is very easy to read and gets right to the point. The author is very insightful and really helps you to recognize your emotional bad habits and gives practical, almost simple (in a good way), suggestions to overcome them. It's easy to flip back to the reviews at the end of the sections for the main points to remember. I ordered a 2nd book for a close friend who is now reading it.

Book Description

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to rise effortlessly to the top, while others are stuck in the same job year after year? Have you ever felt you are falling short of your career potential? Have you wondered if some of the things you do–or don’t do–at work might be hamstringing your ambitions? In The 12 Bad Habits That Hold Good People Back, James Waldroop and Timothy Butler identify the twelve habits that–whether you are a retail clerk or a law firm partner, work in technology or in a factory–are almost guaranteed to hold you back.

The fact is, most people learn their greatest lessons not from their successes but from their mistakes. The 12 Bad Habits That Hold Good People Back offers the flip side to Stephen Covey’s approach in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, zeroing in on the most common behavior that can impede a career. Based on over twenty years of research as business psychologists, the authors claim that the reasons people fail in their jobs are the same everywhere. Only after these detrimental behaviors have been identified can the patterns that limit career advancement be broken.

Using real-life accounts of clients they have worked with at Harvard and as executive coaches at such companies as GTE, Sony, GE, and McKinsey & Co., Waldroop and Butler offer invaluable–and in some cases, job-saving–step-by-step advice on how readers can change their behavior to get back on track.

For anyone seeking to achieve his or her career ambitions, The 12 Bad Habits That Hold Good People Back is a powerful tool for unleashing true potential.

5 out of 5 stars The 12 Bad habits that hold Good People back.......2007-10-01

Excellent book. Gives good insight. I knew there were things I was doing wrong but just didn't know what they were. Now that I know what bad habits I have had, I can work on them and end the frustration. Helped me to realize that others have their problems too and instead of feeling slighted by their behaviour, I now see them as people with bad habits (just like me)!

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding for Everyone.......2007-07-21

After reading several "career change"/"I Hate My Job" books, this one has been by far one of the best for anyone looking for work, working happily or working on getting somewhere else. The personality types described are a bit cookie-cutter but eerily accurate. Most readers will be able to identify "that guy" in one or more of the traits outlined. The case study examples can be a bit drawn out, but the descriptive traits and practical solutions help the reader discover the latent but very influential personality types that occur and impact offices everywhere. This book doesn't advocate radical solutions, stormy emotional confrontations or weepy introspective group hugs. Rather, as a personal tool, it should help the reader see how individuals undermine themselves and others from being truly successful.

5 out of 5 stars Realistic help from a book for the first time.......2007-05-27

The book is easy to read, (though I wish it was printed in a larger font)as I feel you don't come out at the end feeling that you should be close to becoming a saint, and only then can you achieve success. And this isn't the attitude we see in people who are at the top of companies.
The real-life situations are real-life, and it reads like a story.
Somewhere or the other we are not always a single type of person as in a single habit, but each of the 12 habits influences us in our daily life in our work place.
This book has helped me a lot and I read it everyday.

5 out of 5 stars Wondeful.......2007-05-20

One of the best books I have ever read in my life. The books belongs to a completely different league...It is so insightful..It has the accuracy of a science book and the flow of a poem.....I still cant beleive that this book isnt as popular as sevn habits of highly people etc....

Book Description

Listen to and communicate with your horse-successfully

"This is a book for everyone who has ever looked at the constantly increasing list of methods and systems marketed as `horsemanship' and wondered which of the many possible approaches would be most suitable for a particular behavior problem. Gincy Bucklin has distilled her many years of experience with horses and riders into a very useful, step-by-step, hands-on book. Bucklin's writing is smooth and easy to read, and no matter where you open this book, you'll find that her deep respect and affection for both equines and humans shines through."
-Dr. Jessica Jahiel, author of Riding for the Rest of Us

"Gincy Bucklin uses her decades-long experience with horses to answer that most frequently asked question: `Why did my horse do that?' And she comes up with creative solutions that weave together traditional horse handling with the best of modern horse training, including my own personal favorite, clicker training."
-Alexandra Kurland, author of Clicker Training for Your Horse and The Click That Teaches video lesson series

It takes time for a horse to learn everything we want him to know. If we don't make our intentions clear to him in ways that he can understand, or if we don't listen to what he wants, problems may result. Featuring easy-to-follow, step-by-step advice, What Your Horse Wants You to Know reveals how to communicate effectively with your horse to create an atmosphere of mutual cooperation.

What Your Horse Wants You to Know focuses on improving your horse's behavior on the ground, so you can develop relationship and communications skills without the more challenging problems that arise once you're on his back.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Equine enthusiast.......2007-07-16

Very good reference book. Author presents from the horse's point of view which is how the title reads. As usual, however, the one problem that my hose developed is missing. But that may be expected since horses don't often read.

5 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for All Horse Owners.......2007-04-12

Whether you're a beginning horse trainer or more advanced, and no matter what kind of training you are into, this important reference guide will teach you to communicate with your horse.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book !!.......2007-03-06

Gincy has provided a wonderful resource for all horse owners whether beginners or seasoned experts. No matter what discipline you are involved with, this book will become a favourite. It applies to horses beginning their education as well as seasoned competitors, ridden or driven, and just much loved family pets.

The basis for all relationships with our horses is communication. Gincy explains clearly how to read what your horse is saying to you and how to clearly communicate your instructions to him.

This book, like Gincy's others, is full of Gincy's very perceptive insights into equine behavior and motivation. At the same time, she generously cites highlights from the work of other successful trainers and instructors. She totally understands and loves her subject. She isolates each 'problem' or unwanted behavior, explains what it means and not only tells us how to change it but also what not to do.

For the beginner, this book provides a ready reference to cover hundreds of situations that arise in our day to day association with our horse or pony. For the experienced horse person, it is a compendium of knowledge that is so far unequaled in training literature.

Aside from all that, it is an entertaining read.

Suze Orman's face and name are more prominent on the cover of her new money guide than its title, The Road to Wealth. And why not? Orman has parlayed her popular renown as both a New York Times bestselling author and video-age financial guru into an undeniable position of respect and trust when it comes to matters of dollars and sense. This time she presents an encyclopedic guide to the various components of one's overall financial life--from managing debt and owning a home to making investments and preparing to pass it all along--and she does so in the clear and confident style to which her fans have become accustomed. "Here is what you need to know," she writes at the outset. "Answers to the questions you have been asking, as well as the questions you should have been asking, delivered in the most complete, straightforward way I know." While the concise text moves logically from "creating a strong financial foundation to amassing assets and protecting them from common mistakes and periods of economic downturn," this is not meant to be read from cover to cover. Rather, it is a ready bookshelf reference for planning and sorting out common finance concerns, like how to calculate the mortgage payment you can best afford, determine what Medicare will pay toward nursing care, decide between retirement plan options, and similar matters of personal importance. --Howard Rothman

5 out of 5 stars The Road to Wealth: A Comprehensive Guide to Your Money.......2007-08-24

What an amazing book !!!! At 40, I know nothing of financing. Religiously living paycheck to paycheck and raising young children, life gets to be overwhelming. This book has empowered me to look at my finances, my life in a whole new light. There is a way to help my children. I wish Suze Orman could be my financial planner. I have learned so much and yet I have so much more to learn thanks to her advice, insight and experience. This book is an incredible beginning for my journey. If only I had known earlier.

3 out of 5 stars Not really worth what I paid for it.......2007-06-20

But it did include some information that's nice to know. My investment strategy is a bit more aggressive and this audio-book leaned conservative. Then again, I wasn't familiar with Suze Orman before purchasing this book. So all in all, I'd say it's a decent read for most people, though I would have probably benefited more from her "Young and Broke."

3 out of 5 stars Good overview.......2007-05-13

Book is giving a good overview on many different options for investing money. Writing is fluent and easily to understand also for newcomers in this field. There is no difficult language. Reading this will improve any discussion you might have with a so called financial advisor.

5 out of 5 stars Suze is awesome.......2007-02-24

Suze really knows how to explain finances in a easy way for anybody to understand. I liked it so much I told my boss about it who bought it and also I bought the book for my father who is close to retirement.
Thanks,
Suze

Book Description

Adding honor as a factor in raising kids …and parent-child relationships.

Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller offer a thorough program for establishing honor as a basis of family life — not just children honoring parents, but parents respecting children and children honoring each other. Even if honor seems a long way off in your household, you will find practical suggestions here to bring that goal a little closer — suggestions for kids of all ages. Honor is the biblical value that will bring about good behavior. It’s more than just changing what kids do; it’s changing the deeper issues of the heart that triggered the behavior.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Any Parent.......2007-05-15

A breakthrough for familial relating, this book points to the heart directing our actions. What motivates us when interacting with one another? It should be honor: a desire to treat someone as special, to go above and beyond, all with a good attitude. Applying the principles in this book will dramatically affect any family and work to eliminate the bad attitudes in all of us.

5 out of 5 stars great suggestions and direction with christian insight.......2006-03-14

many idenifying stories and great, helpful suggestions. Really helped me with my two daughters 10 -12 years old. Honor, a lost concept in our world today. But a key concept to self esteem and esteeming others properly.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT parenting book!.......2005-08-24

I heard about this book through my church Sunday School class. It is GREAT! Offers wonderful and practical advice on how to parent to the "heart" of the child. Teaches parents the difference between a child "respecting" his parents and a child "honoring" her parents. I've read MANY parenting books but this one really opened my eyes up. Am I disciplining just to get the right response and just to "look" like a good parent? Or am I truly teaching my children the right behavior through the right attitude? Most helpful book. You won't be disappointed! PS - Our church also used teaching video made to accompany book (sold seperately)..it was *okay*...the book is MUCH more useful.)

5 out of 5 stars Wow! An actual answer to many of my parenting questions!.......2004-02-03

The authors conducted a parenting seminar at my church a couple of years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt like I got a lot out of their presentation, but decided not to buy their book since I'd taken detailed notes. After several weeks, I found myself asking questions about some of the practical applications of their "honor-based" method of parenting. Eventually, I stopped doing it and went back to my previous free-form ideas and style. One day my two older children had been picking on each other mercilessly and whining beyond belief. I decided to buy a copy of Turansky and Miller's book to see if it would make a difference having the book itself handy for reference and taking notes. Much to my surprise, after reading the book and taking notes about the practicals details of teaching my children about "showing honor" to other family members, I noticed a difference in our family dynamics the first day! It's been quite awhile now that we've been implementing these ideas, and this weekend I had a group of middle school youth at church comment to me about how my children actually like their siblings and treat each other with kindness and respect. Evidently the kids who were talking to me thought this was really, REALLY unusual ... brothers and sisters who actually like each other? Who make an effort to be nice and speak kindly to each other (and about each other)? Wow ... what a concept. It was so encouraging to realize that the fruit of "honor" in our family was evident to others, too. I highly recommend this book!

5 out of 5 stars Great Practical book.......2002-11-26

I found that many books can tell you what you should be doing but unless they have practical advice on how to do it then it doesn't help. This book does. It also was very helpful to have actual examples in each chapter.

In his fourth book, Everything Bad Is Good for You, iconoclastic science writer Steven Johnson (who used himself as a test subject for the latest neurological technology in his last book, Mind Wide Open) takes on one of the most widely held preconceptions of the postmodern world--the belief that video games, television shows, and other forms of popular entertainment are detrimental to Americans' cognitive and moral development. Everything Good builds a case to the contrary that is engaging, thorough, and ultimately convincing.

The heart of Johnson's argument is something called the Sleeper Curve--a universe of popular entertainment that trends, intellectually speaking, ever upward, so that today's pop-culture consumer has to do more "cognitive work"--making snap decisions and coming up with long-term strategies in role-playing video games, for example, or mastering new virtual environments on the Internet-- than ever before. Johnson makes a compelling case that even today's least nutritional TV junk food-the Joe Millionaires and Survivors so commonly derided as evidence of America's cultural decline--is more complex and stimulating, in terms of plot complexity and the amount of external information viewers need to understand them, than the Love Boats and I Love Lucys that preceded it. When it comes to television, even (perhaps especially) crappy television, Johnson argues, "the content is less interesting than the cognitive work the show elicits from your mind."
Johnson's work has been controversial, as befits a writer willing to challenge wisdom so conventional it has ossified into accepted truth. But even the most skeptical readers should be captivated by the intriguing questions Johnson raises, whether or not they choose to accept his answers. --Erica C. Barnett

Book Description

Forget everything you've read about the age of dumbed-down, instant-gratification culture. In this provocative, intelligent, and convincing endorsement of today's mass entertainment, national bestselling author Steven Johnson argues that the pop culture we soak in every day-from The Lord of the Rings to Grand Theft Auto to The Simpsons-has been growing more and more sophisticated and, far from rotting our brains, is actually posing new cognitive challenges that are making our minds measurably sharper. You will never regard the glow of the video game or television screen the same way again.

4 out of 5 stars Nice Book.......2007-09-22

It was a pretty good book, but I feel the author missed a number of opportunities to argue important points. While I share the opinion of the author, I don't think the book was particularly convincing.

5 out of 5 stars This is good for you too.......2007-09-22

The writer's style feels like a a conversation, where he tells about his ideas and some supportive research made by other persons. The lack of references in the text is compensated by a last chapter with comments about hte origin of the data he used to support his claims.
This informal text is what makes the book an easy and enjoyable reading. However, as a scientific result, the book is not completely sound, since his conclusions are based only on what he think is happening and the supportive that is not necessarily correlated with his findings.
Parents, researchers and educators will find the book provocative. Actually, it defends that beyond content, form is also important, and maybe more important when we are talking about the new media (basically TV and games).
As a general reader, it is a very good book. As a position book, it really makes the author's point of view. However, scientific oriented readers will feel something is missing.

4 out of 5 stars Great Suggestions, Lack of Evidence makes this a teaser.......2007-09-05

I felt that this book kept dangling a carrot out in front of me, providing a soft supposition without the follow-up of hard evidence in most cases. I was intrigued enough to jot down some of the primary sources to investigate further, But i feel that a book of this sort should really advance the subject. However, the author admits in the text that his intention was to spark the interest of those willing and able to do research in the field.

The suggestions that the author makes are certainly concieveable, and worth your time to read. Howver, i believe that the author may lend too much credit to the problem-solving nature of a handful of strategy games and complex drama/competition reality shows, without acknowledging the out and out mindless imitations and competitors of most examples. for every Episode of the apprentice, there is an equally mind numbing "fear Factor" produced.

The author successfully pulls us away from the counter argument of morality's downward Spiral, but again, focuses on a few high minded video games and televison shows.

I was suprised that there was not more focus on the internet, and how society is not only technically inclined, but more social than ever. we are certainly sharing more and reading more information on computers than ever before. but it seems that the author skims this subject in favor of television ands video games, where he clearly has more information.

good read, but you will be left wanting more information than what is provided.

5 out of 5 stars very good read as long as you understand what his point is and isn't.......2007-08-05

As one reads some of the other reviews, I've noticed a tendancy to say "but the author doesn't say this or that" and I think they are missing the point. There is a generally accepted rule that video games and tv are mindless. That they have gotten "worse", that they corrupt moral values and are "bad" for you. His position is that these arguments are false.

He makes the cases (quite convincingly) that the complexity of tv and video games nowdays vs 20 or 30 years ago helps children to think in complex ways that children of the 60's and 70's did not. He thinks this is beneficial. He is not saying that playing them all day every day is better, in fact he says that children should be given a love for reading because reading books is important.

I think where people go awry is when they talk about the other stuff he didn't mention. How society itself may be more complex, how spending that much time in front of a tv screen or computer screen takes time away from other things. That may all well be true, but that's irelevant to the issue at hand. There is a generally acepted negative view of tv and video games and he makes a counter argument. Period. I notice that most of the negative reviews do not dispute anything he says.

1 out of 5 stars Science without Morality.......2007-08-02

Just because you think more or concentrate on more negative aspect than in the past doesn't make you a better person, only a little smarter. Intelligence is not the end all and be all of being human. Basically the author proclaims that today's media makes us more like computers. Yesterday's scientists understood there are far more aspects to human existence than the ability to calculate. I completely agree that today's tv makes you think more. But that's where the author ends his point. In reality, there are so many more parts to human existence that the author doesn't even touch upon... perhaps he doesn't even know. What about morality? In the past, men of science understood that their work had moral and ethical implications. Today it's a "that's for them to figure out, i'm just doing my job". This attitude has permeated other fields, especially MEDIA. Now it's a matter of the bottom line, regarless of how it affects the psyche. So watching the worst humans act their worst today is better than 30 years ago? Cluttering your mind with thoughts of selfishness and depravity today is better than watching Lucy try to get on Ricky's show yesterday? But the author doesnt even CONSIDER this point. He simply stops at "we think more now", not "We think more now so we are better or worse people", simply "we think more now". There is very little point to this book.

This book is really helpful and right on target. It seems so many people try to have magical mind reading abilities and this book helps to sort that fantasy out!! Particularly useful to give to others to read as a gift!!

5 out of 5 stars Changed my life .......2006-08-26

This is the most amazing book I have ever stumbled across. It not only gave me a new perspective on love and relationships but I was able to incorporate the logic of it into all areas of my life. I've recommended it to friends left and right. This is definitely a must read.

5 out of 5 stars This Book Saved My Marriage! .......2006-04-20

Before we found this book, my husband and I were highly discourgaged and didn't think there were any solutions to repair our miserable relationship. All I can say is that this book finally stopped us from resenting and blaming each other for the crumbling of our marriage. I had seen Dr. Bernstein on the Today Show a while ago when they had a segment on toxic relationships and I remembered the title, Why Can't You Read My Mind? This book helped us to understand and appreciate each other in ways we never have before. I only wish that I had bought it before our relationship got so bad. My advice is don't wait till the 11th hour to read this outstanding book.

5 out of 5 stars Best relationship book I've read.......2005-06-05

I buy far too many self help books but this one was the most practical and eye opening regarding how one can develop destructive patterns of relating to your partner (or anyone, for that matter) and how perception plays a key role in all of negative and irrational behavior. He give practical methods for countering these irrational thoughts and thus have a better relationship with both your partner and yourself. I really needed this book and feel it may lead me to finally have a successful relationship leading to a happy marriage. My irrational thoughts and behavior have so often sabotaged me in my relationships up to this point. I highly recommend this book!

5 out of 5 stars Very eye-opening!!.......2005-03-05

This book really makes you take a look at how you are contributing to the problems in your relationship, I found myself saying "wow, i do that"....A LOT. For me, and i would guess most people when they are having relationship problems get to a point where they think they have done everything they can to fix it....when really we do just the opposite. I always considered myself extremely giving and open and my partner totally selfish, and reading this book made me realize how selfish i am. I think this book is a great tool for looking at our own behavior..Also, it gives plenty of great examples and ways to improve.

Book Description

Matthew Blake is a medical student who's trying to ignore his various roommates' wild parties and get through his classes. He definitely needs training in the classroom, but not the bedroom, and he's looking for someone who suits his very specific tastes. Andrew Maynard is his instructor, a doctor at a prestigious British hospital. He's bored, tired of the students who don't seem to care what they're doing, and ready for a change. He and Matthew are not supposed to be attracted to each other, but they can't deny their undeniable chemistry. They come together with a heat that surprises them both. They face all of the difficulties that come with the teacher student dynamic, as well as unexpected doctor's strikes, dealing with Andrew's teenaged son, and hospital red tape. They also learn something about themselves in more intimate ways, as Andrew gives in happily to Matthew's needs, offering up submission that leaves Matthew stunned and thrilled. Andrew and Matthew learn to live, and love together, giving and taking in a relationship that leaves them both surprised at what they're willing to do for love. Are they just what the doctor ordered?

4 out of 5 stars Just what the doctor ordered!.......2007-07-22

Matthew Blake, a medical student, and Dr Andrew Maynard, his instructor, tell their story in alternate chapters.
Matthew shares a house in London with engineering students, and is being driven to distraction by their wild parties, affecting his ability to study. American Dr Maynard despairs over the students he has in his care, until that is he takes Matthew into his office one day to discuss a patient and then really notices Matthew for the first time and is stuck by his beauty. Matthew is equally taken by Andrew's attractive features.
Matthew takes subtle steps to indicate to Dr Maynard his inclinations, and Andrew is quick to pick up on them. When they eventually come to together they are both overwhelmed, and Andrew is quick to suggest a follow up. They plunge into a sizzling relationship, and of course have to contend with all the difficulties that a teacher student affair involves, not the mention the problems of introducing Matthew to Andrew's teenage son.
Matthew learns a few secrets about Andrew's preferences, and Andrew is delighted when Matthew willingly satisfies them. There is an interesting reversal of roles; while Matthew remains in awe of his teacher in class, Andrew eagerly submits to his student in the bedroom.
The two fall in deeply in love, and the narrative follows the course of their love and associated problems. There is a strange mix of hospital and NHS politics, and hot bedroom activity. It is a delightful and very positive tale, with nice touches of humour and no horrors in store. Matthew and Andrew are very likeable characters, and they have some very understanding friends. This is without doubt a very pleasurable read.

5 out of 5 stars Bad Case of Loving You by Laney Cairo.......2007-07-20

I have this book by weeks but only two days ago I finally start it (cause his release in print version), and I have to say I should have read it first.

Matthew is a young and good med student: he likes sex but he knows he has to study hard and so he decides to spend his time on books. But at the beginning of the academic year he meets Andrew, his "on site" doctor teacher.

Andrew is gorgeous and gentle. He is divorced and spends all his time in hospital or with his son Henry. But when he meets Matthew he finds the dom he needs. Even if Matthew is younger of Andrew, the dom's role is his. Andrew is willing and quite. The relationship dom/sub between this two is one I have never read before: it inspires me tenderness and caring.

The love between Matthew and Andrew grows slowly but stronger. In this book I feel the emotions, but they are all peaceful, even if there are topic moments. I close this book with a feeling of quite inside me.

5 out of 5 stars This is a Story!.......2007-04-21

Hello:

This is what I mean about good gay themed books. The author did a fantastic job and I couldn't be anymore of a fan even if I tried. You like the idea of tutor and student like me then you'll be happy. The characters were well thought out and structured. The story was about the start of a new relationship but also about the characters as INDIVIDUALS alongside their passions.

Someone mentioned this book was riddled with medical terms and dragged the story on? Well the book is about doctors and medicine. This book HAS a plot. It has sex, it has a relationship and it has heart. This book does not lack.

Word of warning if the sub/dom relationship "squicks" some people. Then realise that this book does deal with it. But tastefully, since guess what I'm not into reading about kinks either.

Kudos to the author, may your next release be even better!

5 out of 5 stars Just What the Doctor Ordered.......2007-04-15

I thought this book was a good hospital romance between two doctors. Andrew, the teacher, is drawn to Matthew, his student, and the pairing is hot!!! But what I liked most was that the book described their lives inside and outside of the bedroom. The drama does surround Andrew and his position apart from Matthew, but this is a love story, and not all love stories are riddled with strife. There is a hint of "dom"/"sub" with Matthew the master and Andrew the subordinate, but it is not your traditional theatrics with whips and chains. Nor, is Andrew subservient when displaying what's in his heart. It's good to see the role reversal inside and outside of the bedroom, that way, there is no burden on one person to sustain the relationship. Plus it allows for each to grow in their own way.

If you are looking for intrigue or good ole fashion trouble this is not your book. This book is a gay love story with "no larger than life characters", but about people you meet everyday.

The author provides enough balance inside and outside the bedroom to create real characters.

1 out of 5 stars The Story Flat-Lined! Pull the Plug!.......2007-03-23

The story had no plot, no character development, no high point, no crisis resolution and most importantly no dom. and sub. relationship! Instead it had too many English medical abbreviations, too many medical diseases which slowed my reading. The only mention or hint of Matthew's need to dominant was in the first chapter when he wore his cuffs to a bar in order to attract the right one-night-stand. You never see the cuffs again, never really see any domination, except where he comes upon some medical tape and tapes Andrew's wrists. The relationship looked to me to anything but dom and sub. Further more the over-use of putting on latex gloves prior to love making made their relationship more sterile than hot. Since they were doctors, wouldn't they have themselves tested?!? Where are Matthew's cuffs? They also kept the relationship a secret - yet everyone who found out about them, had no problem with it! Andrew gets fired but it has nothing to do with Matthew and he gets a better job offered to him. I am glad I got the e-book because even then it was too much money!! The story flat-lined and should have had the plug pulled on it!

4 out of 5 stars The Ultra Cool Parents Guide to NYC.......2000-10-30

I just returned from a week+ trip to NYC with my 9 year old and I thought that this book was very helpful. The authors describe a number of day trips to take with your child, including dining suggestions. It gives you lots of things to do in a small area and in NYC that is VERY important. I liked the notes on how to get to places on the subway and the small maps that pointed out the location of each thing they suggested for that "trip". As an out-of-towner what I found most helpful were the tips on kid friendly restaurants. There are a millions places to eat in NYC and it was nice to go to places that had been kid tested and enjoyed by adults.
