Book Description
The acclaimed national bestseller-a no-holds-barred account of what you can really expect when you're expecting
Oh, the joys of pregnancy! There's the gassiness, constipation, queasiness, and exhaustion, the forgetfulness, crankiness, and the constant worry. Of course, no woman is spared the discomforts and humiliations of pregnancy, but most are too polite to complain or too embarrassed to talk about them. Not Jenny McCarthy!
In the New York Times best-selling Belly Laughs, actress and new mother Jenny McCarthy reveals the naked truth about the tremendous joys, the excruciating pains, and the unseemly disfigurement that go along with pregnancy. Never shy, frequently crude, and always laugh-out-loud funny, McCarthy covers it all in the grittiest of girlfriend detail. From morning sickness and hormonal rage, to hemorrhoids, pregnant sex, and the torture and sweet relief that is delivery, Belly Laughs is must-read comic relief for anyone who is pregnant, who has ever been pregnant, is trying to get pregnant, or indeed, has ever been born!

take it or leave it.......2007-10-05
My sister in law bought me this book because people told her it was soooo funny. But I wasn't really that impressed. It was funny but I wasn't laughing at loud or anything. Probably not a book I would read again or buy as a gift for anyone else.
A nice change of pace..........2007-09-12
I bought this book seeking something other than the typical "What to expect when you're expecting", and that's exactly what I got. I am a sarcastic, slightly cynical person... this book was perfect for me. Jenny McCarthy is straight to the point, and shockingly honest. The book is sincere, but with the comedy edge that makes it less cheesy than most pregnancy books.
Great read for every pregnant woman.......2007-09-10
The book is very honest and very funny. Jenny does a great job at sharing all her embarassing pregnancy stories and reasures us that what we are expieriencing is in fact normal!
more comical than informative........2007-09-07
This book is easy reading however, its not as informative as I'd hoped. I am pregnant for the first time (writing under my husbands name!), and was looking for something funny AND informative. The best book for this topic I've found is "The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy" by Vicky Iovine. She is hilarious, and VERY informative and covers every topic. This book basically tells stories of Jenny's pregnancy - which is great - but only one persons story.
Waste of time and money.......2007-09-06
This book was a complete waste of time (the whole hour it took to read it) and money. I found many other books much more informative, upfront and honest.

Book Description
Can you really feel better as you get older?
Is aging without illness possible?
Is your own internal fountain of youth waiting to be discovered?
Yes, yes, and YES! says Suzanne Somers, the bestselling author of The Sexy Years. It can all be true when you take advantage of the new science of antiaging medicine—a revolutionary approach to achieving the ageless life.
Suzanne Somers introduced millions of women to bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and changed the way we look at menopause with her groundbreaking book, The Sexy Years, and the overwhelming media response to its publication. Now, in Ageless, Suzanne introduces an inspiring, medically validated approach to reversing the aging process and maintaining a healthy, vibrant, mentally sharp, sexually active life—while building the body’s natural defenses against age-related diseases.
Ageless is jam-packed with new, updated information on bioidentical hormone replacement and antiaging that will change your life forever. Suzanne talks about:
• Antiaging medicine and how it can help work against the environmental assault that is making us sick, including how to detox the body of harmful pollutants and chemicals and strengthen our weakest glands and organs
• Menopause, which can become an enjoyable passage once the body is in perfect hormonal sync with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy
• The dangers of perimenopause and how women can treat it
• Why so many hysterectomies are unnecessary, how birth control pills may have contributed to the rise of hysterectomies, and how to restore your body to perfect hormonal balance after having one
• How andropause is a real condition for men, and how men can lose weight, regain their youthful physiques, and restore heath, energy, and sexuality, all through bioidentical HRT
• The importance of sleep and the healing work that nature does during this time to balance hormones and increase energy
In this “antiaging bible,” Suzanne brings together prominent, Western-trained antiaging doctors who are at the forefront of a medical revolution to show how the traditional medical approach is woefully inadequate and outdated. Its standard of care has been to treat all symptoms with drugs, but in Ageless you will find out how this approach does not make us better. With antiaging medicine you can heal your body rather than keep a chronic condition at bay with drugs. Ageless shows you how to keep your “insides” young, and how this manifests on the outside.
What could be better than having your doctor tell you that you have the bones of a twenty-year-old, or the heart of a thirty-year-old? You can be young on the inside if you follow the advice in Ageless. Suzanne reveals the secrets to youthfulness that everyone can achieve and shows us all how to live the ageless life!
How young is your energy?
“The second half of your life can be better than your first half. A better life, a healthier life, a life of youthful energy comes from embracing antiaging medicine, and bioidentical hormone replacement is a big component. . . . The second half of life can be wonderful. I know it because I am living it. This new approach to health gives you back your lean body, shining hair, and thick skin, provided you are eating correctly and exercising in moderation. This new medicine allows your brain to work perfectly and offers the greatest defense against cancer, heart attack, and Alzheimer’s disease. Don’t you want that?”

Amazing.......2007-09-27
This book is an amazing, indepth and comprehensive look at what can be done for both men and women who suffer from hormone imbalance. I am so greatful to my sister for encouraging me to read the book. "Help is on the way."
She's got more doctor interviews and more up to date information in this latest BHRT bible.......2007-09-06
The title of this book prompts a disclaimer. The word Ageless is clearly an attention getter used to sell books. The definition is "not affected by time or age." In no way do I believe there are as yet any lotions, potions or cutting edge docs who can prevent the aging process.
What I do believe is that we can make use of the latest research to support our bodies to fight off the diseases and complaints of aging. So does the author.
Now on to the book.
Suzanne Somers has pulled together an enormous amount of research and features interviews with sixteen practitioners with different but sometimes overlapping specialties. What we end up with are the key components of healing what ails you now and preventing what lurks in the future.
"I believe it is possible to experience aging without illness, which is the big dream for all of us. We don't fear getting older; we fear getting sick, really sick" says Ms. Somers.
Yes Suzanne is a Bio-Identical Hormone replacement (BHRT) zealot. She is a well educated one and someone who lives what she preaches. Her life is vastly improved through the concepts proposed--detox, healthy lifestyle, sleep!, and BHRT for women and men.
Lest you don't know her story she is a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed when she was already well into feeling better than ever through her hormone replacement choices and refused to give them up during her treatment. Bold yes, some might say stupid, but her decision served her.
I mention that bit to get you past the misconception that bio-identical hormone replacement causes to cancer. It does not. The reasons are complex and too long to go into here. Get the book. It speaks to this specifically.
So what can bio-identical hormones do for us? They can turn off, or slow down, the "time to die" signals. Hormones keep us strong and healthy when we are younger so we can breed and care for our young and ensure the success of future generations by doing so. Once we are done with that whole process our hormones start to dry up and the signal that sends to the body is, "time to go, you are no longer a productive."
That's the simplified Greg-speak version. The big point is when hormones decline or are out of balance we are susceptible to the diseases associated with aging. These include Alzheimer's, cancer, and heart disease. Dr. Robert Greene of Specialty Care for Women in Redding, CA has this to say, "Take Alzheimer's disease, for example. Several studies done on both men and women show if someone has an estradiol level of less than 20 pg/mL, they are at highest risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and cognitive disturbances." And we wouldn't want to prevent that why?
It's not just the hormonal decline that's responsible for our poor health and disease rates it's also the toxins we ingest. Exogenous (foreign essentially) hormones--found in dairy products, birth control, and in some instances the water supply-- are toxic since they are not made in our bodies and are said to be responsible for the increase in reproductive organ cancers such as breast, testicular and cervical.
Add to this the toxic load we ingest daily in the form of pesticides, plastics, creams laden with non-cancer causing but non-the-less disturbing chemicals and our bodies begin to break down under the weight. The burden of toxicity causes fatigue, aches, pains, and upsets and we call that "normal for someone my age."
Detox is a big part of the The Ageless prescription for wellbeing.
Sleep is another biggy in this book; an underrated "miracle cure." Sound sleep is hard to come by when your hormones are out of whack though. During deepest sleep our body does its repair work and pumps out restorative hormones. No stages of deep sleep and health decline is inevitable.
This book is far more comprehensive than her first visit to the BHRT world, The Sexy Years. Medicine moves at the speed of light and since her first book there have been many studies, clinical trials come to term, and women with stories of success to draw from. But stories don't guarantee safety and this book backs up all of the successes with science.
If you are currently a woman of a certain age, even if you are "too young" to think about hormone replacement--and if you have PMS, PCO, or other "female" malady you are not too young--you might want to use this book as a primer. Learn what is preventable and then you can figure out how you want to go about preventing it. Or not. It's obviously a personal thing.
Long term care is expensive, far more so than a book with practical information that you can implement now. Ignorance is also expensive. Give yourself the inexpensive gift of an open mind and you just might want to spend some of that insurance money on making your wildest dreams come true.
One of best Anti-Aging books, written for laymen.......2007-06-24
I learned considerable new anti-aging information, from Ageless, although I have read numerous books on this topic. I suspect most physicians would also learn some new information, from this book, which was written, in 2006.
Ageless, contains an abundance of leading edge medical knowledge concerning estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid, DHEA, melatonin, and human growth hormone replacement, breast cancer risks and treatment. Suzanne Somers survived breast cancer and continued on biodentical hormone replacement, while declining chemotherapy. She has researched hormone replacement far more thoroughly, than the "medical reporters," who have dominated media coverage of hormone replacement, with unbalanced, over-sensationalized, misleading articles. I have heard Suzanne Somers speak and she is dynamic, fluid, articulate, knowledgeable, humorous and inspiring.
I was especially impressed with the interviews of T S Wiley and Julie Taguchi, MD. Suzanne Somers conveyed the cancer reduction benefits of extended breast feeding, early and multiple pregnancy more clearly, than Sex, Lies and Menopause. The evidence demonstrating hormone replacement reduced breast cancer deaths thirty percent, while decreasing inflammation, deserves wider publicity.
Some of the physicians interviewed propose monthly cycling of progesterone and estrogen, citing research that monthly cycling, imitating the monthly menstrual period results in beneficial up-regulation of estrogen receptors.
Florida Detox clinical experience verifies bioidentical hormone replacement can produce dramatic reductions of depression, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, migraine and interstitial cystitis. Many chemical dependency relapses are driven by hormonal deficiencies.
Suzanne Somers addresses the strange irony, that many people refuse treatment with safe, natural biodentical hormones, stating it is unnatural to avoid hormonal decline, with aging. Despite their refusal to accept natural hormone replacement therapy, these increasingly unhealthy individuals, willingly accept blood pressure, cholesterol, pain, insomnia and antidepressant medication, angioplasty, coronary bypass, and artificial joint replacement. Natural hormone replacement can reduce or eliminate the need for these medications and surgeries.
The conversational style of the interviews creates a very readable discussion of anti-aging medicine. Although Ageless does not contain many research citations, The Menopause Clinics of America website, http://www.replacehrt.com/research.shtml. contains many abstracts and citations of published, peer reviewed research, including many of the studies, discussed in Ageless.
This book also contains many very clever, funny jokes, regarding aging.
I did detect an apparent typo, where testosterone was said to decrease hemoglobin. Many excellent, books have at least one typo error and indeed it seems almost inevitable, that a lengthy book will contain one. Despite this apparent error, I feel this book easily deserves five stars.
A frequent complaint, in previous reviews of this book, concerns the expense of bioidentical hormone replacement. Suzanne Somers helped found the Menopause Clinics of America, which are already located, in many states and plan to be nationwide. I have previously recommended the Menopause Clinics of America, in Denver, CO, and am impressed with the quality of care provided. Their fees, testing and prescription costs are very reasonable and their staff is very knowledgeable and patient oriented.

second only to my bible!.......2007-05-13
i found out about this book through some research on anti-aging medicine. it was highly recommended by the american college of anti-aging medicine website. it is very informative and i highly recommend it!
Good Basic Information.......2007-05-13
I have found all of Suzanne Somers books, especially thoses about bioidentical hormones to be honest and informative. Regardless of what you may think about her, the books on diet, exercise, and bioidentical hormones are no worse or better than anything else out there. I did take her advice and went to my primary care physician and told him I wanted off the HRT and wanted to use the bioidentical hormones in the dosages recommended by the Dr.'s interviewed by Somers. I have felt so much better that I have regreted I did not read her books sooner. I have struggled with menopause symptoms for years even when on Premrin. The bioidentical hormones have made me feel more like my old self. If you are on HRT read the "Sexy Years" and "Ageless" I would recommend both highly.

Book Description
Congratulations, you're a new mommy!
You've brought your brand-new bundle of joy home, and there's so much to look forward to: photos; baby's first word; clipping those oh-so-cute and very tiny fingernails; finding just the right stroller; sex again (gulp!); and, oh yes, losing the weight.
The joys of being a new mommy or daddy are endless, but so are the worries and the advice. Jenny McCarthy, the New York Times bestselling author of Belly Laughs, told you the truth about pregnancy and childbirth. Now she's telling the truth about baby's first year.

Customer Reviews:
damn good!!!!.......2007-09-21
this sequel to married to the game was off da hook! i just wish it would have given me a closing to this long overdue of ceazia. thats my gurl and all but she needs to get whats coming to her.
What, is she series.......2007-09-20
I read the first two book, and the first was that one. The second was just everywhere... all over the place. So my friend who order the naked truth said it wasn't that good. So I just read all of Ceazia's chapters, because that's all you need to know for the 4 book (A trick I learned from reading her third, because none of those characters were in the fourth same with the first). I'm hoping here next book will settle down instead of just full craziness and all over the place. Cuz I don't want to be reading no book and at the end be like WTF.
WHEN IS IT GOING TO STOP???!!!!!!!.......2007-07-04
WHY ARE THEY GOING ON AND ON WITH THIS SEQUEL? FOR ALL OF U WHO HAVENT READ THIS BOOK YET I WILL GO AHEAD AND ANSWER THE QUESTION YES THERE WILL BE A PART 4 TO THIS BOOK, I JUST DIDNT LIKE THE FACT THAT THE AUTHOR WAS KIND OF PULLING AWAY FROM THE MAIN CHARACTER WHICH WAS CEAZIA. I WANTED W MORE ABOUT HER BUT INSTEAD IT WAS ABOUT DANIELLE AND IF I COULD REMEMBER DANIELLE WAS NOT A GANGSTER'S GIRL IT WAS ALWAYS CEAZIA. BUT I WILL BE READING THE 4TH PART JUST TO SEE HOW LONG SHE WILL GO ON WITH THIS.....UR GIRL***JENN***.....HOLLA!!!!
good.......2007-05-25
I loved all the other books before this one. This one was good but it was missing a lot of pieces. When it said what Ceazia found that her boyfriend cheated on her it didn't specify if it was a woman or man. It just didn't finish it's story. So I guess we'll just have to wait for a new one. With the way it ended there better be another book coming out soon.
So So.......2007-04-04
I will say Chunichi haven't given Ceazia a rest yet and from what I see there will be another book coming soon. But, will say this book was so so. Liked that there was more added characters to the book. Ceazia moved to ATL to get away from her pass and start over by becoming a good girl she meets Parlay a well know singer. She changes everything for him but, it all back fire when she finds out the unthinkable about his cheating ways.
Danielle also move to the ATL to follow up behind Ceazia for revenge but, in that case she find herself trying to sleep her way up to the top to become partner at a lawfirm and also sleeping with a man that is married to Angel that gets revenge on Danielle for sleeping with her man.
Ceazia find herself going back to the VA because she felt it was time to head back and reclaim her hometown.
Danielle find out that Ceazia went. Danielle told Shawn he can get paid if he is welling to help her get back at Ceazia.
This book does open up on more characters but, in a way didn't like how it ended. Read the first 2 books and now this one and soon want to see how the number 4 book will be. So will say this book was a SO SO.

Book Description
Jenny McCarthy, New York Times bestselling author of Baby Laughs and Belly Laughs, speaks candidly about the challenges and the humor to be found in balancing motherhood and the ups and downs of marriage.
Jenny McCarthy's honesty has made her a bestseller. In Life Laughs, Jenny opens up about all of the things no one told you before you got married and had kids. Of course there's plenty of Jenny's outrageous humor, but she also writes openly and for the first time about doing your best when marriage falters and about her own divorce, which made headlines when it was announced in the summer of 2005. Jenny doesn't pretend to be an expert in her books; she is instead something more valuablea good girlfriend. Catch Jenny's take on growing older, finances, PMS, sex, dating . . . and again, mommyhood.
Jenny McCarthy is a trusted, brand-name, bestselling author, and Life Laughs is poised to be her biggest book yet.
Customer Reviews:
Good laughs.......2007-09-27
I bought this as a funny read for my wife, but then wound up reading it before her. Jenny is really funny as she describes everyday nuiances of life. A bit on the bawdy side, but will make you laugh out loud. Funny to see a chick that is so hot, be so down to earth about things in life we have all thought and wondered about. I recommend it for wives and husbands - thanks Jenny!
Raw and real, that's Jenny (well yes, motherhood is like that too).......2007-09-11
This is a very light read, so light I felt like I just drank some of Wonka's lemony fizzy-lifting drink. But, reading it is wicked fun! What is it about having a baby, that suddenly gives everyone and their brother the right to bombard you with unnecessary advice? What is it about motherhood that makes us feel oh-so-guilty 24/7? This book will certainly help mothers lighten up (and believe me, we all need it). Jenny tells it like it is, and she's quite frank as well as absolutely hysterical! I felt like I was overhearing a juicy conversation with her closest girlfriends - she just says things that no one has the guts to say - and I admire her for that. I hate to say it, but it's great to see a beautiful star so humbled by her inept attempts at parenting. Just make sure you have a sense of humor and an open mind before reading this one, and you'll enjoy it so much more.
third time's the charm.......2007-09-06
I have enjoyed Jenny's first 2 books while I was pregnant and shortly after my son was born. This 3rd book is just as funny and true to life as the other 2. I look forward to the next one she writes, maybe the comic romance?....
wife loved it........2007-08-06
My wife really loved it. I got it for a good read on our summer vacation. It sure helped pass the time on a plane and waiting in the airport. At least it helped me pass the time. She was busy reading so she didn't feel the need to talk to me constantly. Thus I had time to read my book and catch a movie on my dvd player. thanks..
great book.......2007-08-02
I thought this book was great! we recently found out that my sister is pregnant and we sat down and read belly laughs together in a couple of hours, we loved and appreciated how candid she is. I have read baby laughs and life laughs within a week of reading belly laughs. I agree that the books cover random subjects, but life is random and I can relate to and appreciate everything she talks so openly about. So far, I can safely say that I will read whatever she wants to write about. She makes you feel more normal, and proud to be a woman despite all of the obstacles we may have to overcome

Book Description
SEX. Splashed across magazine covers, billboards, and computer screens--sex is casual, aggressive, and absolutely everywhere. And everybody's doing it, right? In Real Sex, heralded young author Lauren F. Winner speaks candidly to Christians about the difficulty--and the importance--of sexual chastity. With honesty and wit, she talks about her struggle to live a celibate life. Never dodging tough terms like ''confession'' and ''sin,'' Winner grounds her discussion of chastity first and foremost in Scripture. She confronts cultural lies about sex and challenges how we talk about sex in church. Her biblically grounded observations and suggestions will be especially valuable to unmarried Christians struggling with the sexual mania of today's culture. Real Sex is essential reading for Christians grappling with chastity and a valuable tool for pastors.
Customer Reviews:
Catchy title worth the read.......2007-09-20
Given the perspective of the author I found this book to be very realistic while still getting God's perspective about sex. The author comes from a non-Christian upbringing and adulthood has a valuable approach and authority from experience. While I don't completely agree with everything she wrote the vast majority of her points I do find much more attainable to the Christian culture than "I Kissed Dating Goodbye".
For the practice of the virtue of chastity.......2007-08-06
The quotation by C.S. Lewis found in the early pages of this book really captures the purpose of a book like this. Lewis remarks, "Chastity is the most unpopular of the Christian virtues." For this reason, and for the fact that it is also a very difficult virtue to practice, and for the fact that church sponsored abstinence programs have had disappointing success rates, AND for the fact that our culture is doing everything to discourage the practice of this virtue--we have this excellent book by Lauren Winner. As one who came to Christianity after having become accustomed to premarital sex as part of her dating life, Winner continued this practice in her early experience as a Christian. The church should be dismayed that, according to her report, it offered little in the way of accountability or support in the practice of the virtue of chastity. Her book aims to in some part fill this void.
Perhaps some of the most insightful portions of this book are the chapters on "Lies the Culture Tells Us About Sex," and "Lies the Church Tells Us About Sex." Here she dispels some of the untruths that the world uses to disconnect sexuality from marriage and procreation, and that we can indulge in apart from commitment and without consequences. She addresses the issue of dress and modesty in relation to the practice of chastity, and the positive allure of the hidden. And she unveils the damaging effects of the cultural lie that sex must always be earth-shattering and adventurous, and that meaningful and passionate sex cannot happen in the routine of marriage.
When it comes to the church, she unveils some myths that the church has propagated in its eagerness to defend chastity. While often well-intentioned, these myths have sometimes served to discredit the church in the minds of those who have transgressed sexually, and discovered that premarital sex doesn't always make you feel guilty (though it certainly can). Further, that women, not only men, are sexually driven beings, and finally, that bodies are not "gross, dirty, or unimportant." Winner does a fine job of exalting the good gift of sexuality and the embodiment of love through it, as a tremendous good that God has created for the use of His creation. However, most importantly, she exalts this gift of sexuality in the context which God created it to be used--marriage. Her entire book is undergirded by a positive and biblical view of sex and marriage, and this theology of sexuality is foundational to her book. One of the quotations that really stuck in my head, was the fortuitious statement of biblical truth that occurred in the movie Vanilla Sky (not worth seeing, btw), where a woman remarked: "Don't you know that when you sleep with someone, your body makes a promise whether you do or not?" This is a rather striking way of stating the truth that St. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6:15-20, that sexual intercourse inevitably creates a one-flesh union between man and woman.
Perhaps one of the most unexpected surprises of Winner's book was the way she talked about private confession and absolution. She talked about the consolation and release she discovered in privately confessing her sins to her pastor, and hearing the words of Christ's grace and forgiveness personally spoken to her. While this didn't suddenly transform her behavior in a miraculous way, it did help her with the unburdening of guilt. When she returns to the matter of confession later in the book, she aptly states that whether done before a pastor or another Christian, confession "puts us in the company of people who can speak truth in love to us, about our sin, about the need for amendment of life." This point about her book should be underscored again--that the sins and failures in practicing the virtue of chastity, that burden so many people, are burdens that can be and are lifted by the strong arms of Jesus Christ, who bore our sins on His shoulders to the cross. It is in the strength of His forgiveness that single Christians are emboldened to walk forward in new life, practicing chastity in the present, until the time should come when they can enjoy the God-given gift of sexuality in marriage. Much more could be said about this excellent book, including her practical advice on learning the walk of chastity, but I will leave it at that and urge you to read it for yourself.
False Premises.......2007-07-31
This book is a bizarre neo-Puritanism, all predicated on the distorting false distinction between "real" sex and other forms. Only someone deeply alienated from Nature and Nature's God could presume that the source of most sexual pathology--Christian dogma--could be its only source of legitimation. Everything she says about relationships between two can be better realized in relationships of three or four.
a well-written, currently framed apologetic for chastity.......2007-07-11
For some months now I've been paying attention to recent Christian works on sex, marriage and the family. After reading a couple of dozen volumes in succession, I have reached at least one firm conclusion: Lauren Winner's Real Sex is stand-out, brilliant. Although not as broad ranging as some and not as theologically cast as others, still, no other contemporary book comes close to addressing chastity as clearly, forthrightly and convincingly as does this one. Informed by Christian tradition, governed by scriptural teaching and aimed squarely into today's world, Winner's apologetic for chastity (including fidelity within marriage) is nothing less than a Godsend. To be quite clear, if you are a pastor, a campus minister, a youth worker, mentor or counselor, you need to be familiar with this book and have it available for others to digest. If you are a single Christian struggling with chastity or a married Christian committed to monogamy but grappling with the lure of past misadventures, you also can benefit by absorbing this helpful book.
Real Sex is composed of nine reasonably succinct and very well written chapters. The first, a candid introduction drawing from the author's own sexual history, serves immediately to orient the discussion toward helping people to actually practice chastity. Here is the true burden of the book: not to add to the barrage of voices calling younger Christians to simply "zip up" and to "wait;" but to positively help us all inhabit chastity. Winner writes: "I have tried to articulate both the biblical vision of sex and the honest difficulties of living in this vision; I have tried to sketch both the tragedy of living outside the biblical vision and the hope for living within its bounds."
Following the introduction, the main body falls into two parts. Chapters' two to five provide the reader with a biblical frame of reference for thinking about human bodies and sexuality. Writing with freshness and verve, Winner stays away from proof-texts and stale condemnations. She doesn't preach to us but helpfully leads us to the place of seeing that sexual autonomy is not all that it is hyped up to be and not what God desires for us. Unlike many who take up the genre of Christian moral instruction, Winner offers us the compliment of embedding the moral truth she has to deliver in the larger narrative of creation and fall. The gospel too, is an equally important part of what grounds her exposition of the body, of sex and marriage. Sparing us any talk of sex being `dirty' or debased, Winner rejoices in the truth: sex is good, sex is a gift, and sex has a context. No doubt Winner's ability to balance telling the truth with a compassionate and empathetic tone will gain her a great many hearers. Certainly I cannot imagine anyone leaving off reading this book thinking that they personally are being judged or attacked.
Chapters six through nine follows through on the promise of the introduction. Here there is a much more practical focus. Pornography, masturbation and premarital sex are discussed in a frank but even-handed way. Moral formation, chastity and pre-marital abstinence are likewise treated. At no point does Winner chide her readers who may have succumbed to these sexual disorders; but at no point does she fudge the standards of our Maker or hide the difficulty of conducting ourselves sexually to the glory of God. That said, she certainly does offer help. Winner's emphasis on the church as a community working towards chastity, speaking well of sex, and actualizing the love of God, is a very powerful incentive toward practicing chastity. Further, Winner's open acknowledgment that Christian men and women do want guidance concerning physical boundaries is to be commended. That she is then able to offer some very concrete advice on "where to draw the line" (without falling into prudish preferences or straight out legalism) is to be applauded. Personally, I feel her chapter six on line-drawing and formation is pretty much worth the price of the book. It contains very helpful material.
Although she is deeply aware that chastity is at odds with the dictates of our culture and the orientations of our own desires, yet Winner knows what she believes about sexuality and why. In offering this gentle and insightful volume, Lauren has graced us with something of substantial valuable: a well-written, currently framed apologetic for chastity that is rooted in the practical call of Jesus to follow Him and to sin no more. Do yourself a favor, read this book, begin the daily discipline of appropriating its wisdom, and then pass it along for another to read.
An Honest and Straightforward Book.......2007-01-10
Lauren Winner has a great way of presenting arguments for chastity in a no nonsense manner, addressing many concerns and misconceptions that many have about sex whether they are misconceptions that come from our society or misconceptions that originate from within our churches. A truly great book among many average to bad books that address this topic.

Book Description
What Happens in Jamaica, Stays in Jamaica?
Except in this tell-all, cheeky guide to the world's naughtiest resort, Hedonism II.
Everyone returns from Hedonism II with at least one good story no one at home believes.
Is Hedonism II a retirement home for worn-out swingers? Is it a testosterone tour-de-force with too few eligible single women to clamor over? Is it a cult that sucks away all your vacation time? Well, the last one might be true.
Learn why Hedonism II has a 90% repeat guest rate--the highest of any Caribbean hotel--even though the facilities are tired, the food is mediocre, and the beach sand hurts your feet--if you are still standing after a week.
The Hedo myths:
Only young singles go to Hedonism II. People walk around naked everywhere. Open sex is rampant. Someone will try to steal your wife.
Every myth has its truth...but Hedonism II is 50% couples--and most guests are over 30, full nudity is only allowed on one beach, the hotel does not condone public sex (but it happens), and your wife--well, that's her choice. But at Hedo you will see what you've never seen before. And you might do it too.
Here are the truths and tips that will make your vacation to Hedonism II the most fun trip you'll ever take--again and again. FYI: The resort Hedonism II did not authorize this book; the book includes the good, bad and the ugly. Although the resort's owners tried to stop distribution of the 1st ed. of the book in federal court in 1998, the author enjoys Hedonism II as a vacation destination and continues to travel there regularly on her annual "Naked Truth Tour" that is not affiliated with the resort.

excellent Reading.......2007-09-24
The book is excellent and a must read if you are considering a Hedo Vacation.
This book reminds you of why you love Hedo.......2007-04-17
Ms. Santilli's book, The Naked Truth About Hedonism II, is a good cure for DIF (dreaded island fever or what you feel after returning home from the island).
The Naked Truth evokes the island and especially the resort of Hedo II. If you're a newbie, it's a must read to help get your feet wet. If you've been before, it's a wonderful reminder of why you love the resort ... plus you may read about or see some friends.
This is the must have book for those considering a visit to Hedonism II in Negril, Jamaica.
Hedonism II Book.......2007-04-12
I have several friends that have been to Hedonism II (I haven't been there yet). They attest to the accuracy of the information in this book. It gives a lot of information that you would never find in a tourist review.
A must read for first time visitors to Hedo II.......2007-03-05
This is a must read for all first time travelers to Hedo II. My wife and I wish we had read the book prior to our first visit three years ago. The book is funny and a great introduction to some of the cast of characters you'll meet and activities you can expect to have. We have been there 3 times now and without the benefit of Chris' insight we missed out on a lot on our first trip.
We have made friendships and now schedule our return visits to coincide with new friends we have met. It is truely a blast!
We are in our mid 40s and intitally were a bit apprehensive, particularly my wife. As our first week progressed gradually inhibitions faded - this may be in proportion to the alcohol consumed!!! After two days her top came off at the beach, by the forth day we enjoyed nudity and by the sixtth day she was speaking "french" to several of the single men that were vacationing! It is amazing - but after a week of fun we return to our proper lives in the states, working and parenting etc. What goes on in Hedo stays in Hedo...except for a few pictures lol
But now we are already planning and looking forward to our next visit this November!
Great book - a must read. Kudos to Chris
Great read!.......2006-11-21
Loaded with information, anecdotes, as well as humor. People that have never been will gain a ton of knowledge, and people that have, will find it a great way to ease the DIF, and perhaps learn a thing or two they wished they knew then.

My New Favorite!.......2007-08-17
I've read many christian books about relationships, purity, ect...and this one BY FAR is my favorite, the best. Whether it's by yourself or with your significant other--Read it!
Must have for ALL single Christians.......2007-06-06
This is one of the best books I have ever read. Jason has a way of writing that is very conversational. It feels like talking to a friend. With a witty sense of humor and a strong knowlege of the Bible, this book is very entertaining but doesn't sugarcoat anything. He tells you what God's word says about sex before marriage, while also telling you why sex outside of marriage is a relationship killer. This book is one of the best purchases I have ever made, and one I am sure I will read again and again.
Highly Recommended.......2007-05-07
This is an easy weekend read. I recommend it to anyone serious about dating in God's will. Illian has done his research. If you like Jason's book I would recommend John Eldridge, Wild at Heart and Captivating.
Great Read!!.......2007-03-28
I've never been one to read a "self-help" book. They are just not my thing but after seeing Jason on the Joni show on the Daystar network I thought I would give this book a shot. I'm so glad that I did! I found myself laughing, crying, and changing my perspective on dating. This is a great read for Christians who want to find a balance when it comes to dating. Jason does an excellent job stating that it's NOT about turning your back on dating nor about having sex with each person you date but instead waiting on that man (or woman) who you are meant to share the rest of your life with. It's okay to date and meet new people, otherwise how else are you going to get to know your significant other? Like he said, "God has His part and we have our part." Our partner isn't just going to fall out of the sky one day but we also don't have to go out and make ourselves look desperate by looking for him or her. I personally am content with waiting on the Lord but this book definitely gave me insight on what "waiting" really looks like. Clearly it's not about checking out the ring finger of every gentleman that I meet. Who knew? LOL
This is a GREAT read!! I highly recommend it to anyone who is single and looking to start dating.
Awesome READING!!! Everyone should read this book.......2007-03-13
This book is excellent in the helpfulness of Dating and Sex. I laughed, cried and learned there's more to a dating relationship then just sex. I couldn't put the book down. There are alot of truths and hard facts in this book. It would be beneficial for everyone to read this, in case you run into someone dealing with this very issue. It's not just teens, or college kids, but those who are divorced, widowed, etc. that need to know the issues surrounding sex and dating and waiting. What is acceptable and what is not. I had now idea what is acceptable and what wasn't, this book helps put things into perspective, and gives you things to think about.

Again??!!.......2007-10-03
I do like this series but, he seems to be re-using the same old plot line over and over... They start together then, they are split up because of some foe, then one of them looses the ability to use their power then,.....AND What happened to the wizards rules?? Do they just stop at four?? Also, We all know that Kaylan loves Richard and Richard loves Kaylan. Can we move on?? I like charictor devlopment but, they are not going anywhere... Just in love... We are not learning any more about them just how very very...VERY much in love they are. It is cool to have a sub-story to off set the blood and gutts but, this is not supposed to be a love novel...I don't think... A little less talk and alot more action please. Really those are the only problems i see. I still enjoy the books very much. Thanks Terry!!
A review.......2007-09-18
After reading the 8th novel in Mr. Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. Being an avid fan of the previous novels I've noticed that he is summarizing too many events from the past. That on its own is rather dull but I suppose it let's people who haven't read the first four books get up to date. In this novel we see Richard and Kahlan thrown into a pit of danger and a threat against their lives. To me this novel was a bit too preachy about society. I found myself skimming a lot of it but above all it is a good book but not as good as the first four.
This was the book that made me stop reading Goodkind.......2007-06-20
I had already thought about stopping after reading "Pillars of Creation", which was overall a rather nice book, until Jenssen suddenly has that Richard-clone speach at the end. However, after having read 7 books of this series I still wished to give the 8th one a try. After 6 chapters I stopped reading, and this is why: for 7 books, Goodkind was able to get the action started and the main chars in life-threating danger by the end of chapter 2. In this book, all that happens in the first 6 chapters is the chars walking around, talking and exlaining all the greatness of Richard and his view to Jenssen, and two obnoxious baby goats getting killed by some predator birds. Also no Zedd in these chapters. :(
Do I Have to Give This Mess A Star?.......2007-06-09
This book is definitely not worth 1 star. Goodkind ran out of ideas about 4 books back. He has tried different tactics to keep the series going. He has totally side-tracked the series with a couple of books (Soul of the Fire and Pillars of Creation) that did not add anything to the storyline. Then he wasted page after page with a political debate in Faith of the Fallen. With this book he uses 2 methods to fill pages with useless verbiage: First he tries to engage us in a meaningless philosophical debate, and second he re-tells all of the other books of the series in this one. Here is an example: Kahlan is being attacked by a brute from the Order who is 2 steps away from reaching her. During his first step Kahlan recalls what it means to be a Mother Confessor, and how all the other confessors have been brutally killed. She recalls her best friend dying in her arms, and how she never expected to have a true love. She remembers how she touched Richard with her power and how he was able to survive and return her love (all this takes about 15 pages to describe). During the brutes next step Kahlan remembers all the times that she and Richard have been through, and just how much she loves him. She recalls his tender touch, and remembers their passionate love making. There is also a long discussion about how the Confessor's power works (all this takes another 15 pages. Finally the brute reaches Kahlan and she subdues him. Total time lapse in story = 2 seconds, total pages used in book = 30.
There is no doubt that Goodkind must have been smoking some very strong illegal substances when he wrote this book. Take a look at his photo on the back cover and tell me that this guy doesn't have a bong collection in his closet right next to his S&M sex toys.
The guy responsible for editing this book must have taken the day off to go fishing. The actual story would have taken no more than 100 pages. The rest is a re-hash of everything that has been written before, or some of the most useless philosophical mumbo-jumbo I have every read.
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! Borrow from the library if you must indulge.
Oh God, Save Me.......2007-02-06
If you read any other book in the series, then you have already this one. The first few books in the series were fairly good, definitely not a series that will be loved for years to come, but an ok read. Terry is definitely not of the same par of writer as Robert Jordan or George Martin. His big downfall is that he rambles on and on about the same worthless stuff through every book.
The main characters, Lord Richard Rahl and Kahlan are by far some of the most unlovable characters you will ever meet. People follow these two blindly, yet they have no leadership skills whatsoever. They only are focused on one another. Their people are dying by the 1000s while they run around the world trying to save each other.
This is the only series I have ever had to give up on because it is so god awful boring.
Save yourself alot of trouble and buy something good.

It isn't just you!.......2005-08-02
I thought this book was great and loaned it to a few friends who have also like it. The most important message in the book for many people will be the fact that "it isn't just you." One friend commented that she felt the entire book was telling her story, helping her understand that what had been happening to her in the workplace was not about her as an individual but reflected a culture that was steeped in old biases.
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in how many women are perceived and treated in the workplace.
Highly Recommended!.......2005-04-18
Author and executive Margaret Heffernan fearlessly declares that decades of advice telling business women to act like men, follow traditional rules and cleave to heartless stereotypes are wrong. Breathe a sigh of relief. It's not you; "It's the system, stupid!" In her eyes, the business world inherently does not welcome, respect or value women. Refreshingly, instead of blaming women, the author conveys the advice of hundreds of female survey respondents who say men hold the aces in the business world and don't want to share. Honest, funny and sometimes disconcerting, she offers advice, inspiring examples and helpful stories. She explains how to find or create a humane, cooperative, supportive workplace that fits your principles - and how to make a realistic appraisal if you are at the change-it-or-quit stage. The one shortcoming is the author's absolute unstated assumption that women are innately, inevitably more cooperative, honest and caring than men. This stereotype is a two-edged sword, wounding those men who do have sound values, and reinforcing the typecasting that women ought to be sweet and nurturing because it's in their genes. That aside, we recommend Heffernan's clear view of the hurdles that block a woman's path to business success and work-life balance. She confronts painful realities and adapts them, or adapts to them, even if in nontraditional ways. If you have to be one person at work and someone different at home, her dynamic vision can help you pull it all together.
The ugly truth about gender relations in the office.......2005-01-22
Margaret Heffernan has never been afraid to talk about the ugliness that can happen for women in Corporate America. Her new book is no different. It brings up almost every important issue for women trying to climb the traditional corporate ladder. In some cases she offers solutions, either from her own experience and research, or through the shared stories of women she interviewed for the book.
Two things in particular in the book stuck with me. In one section she discusses women and their "relationship" with work. I really liked the use of that word, "relationship." Because I do have a relationship with my work, just like I have a relationship with the people in my life or with money. (I had never really thought about it in that way before.) The second item that struck me was after I read one woman's description of something very sexist that happened in the workplace, I expected the next line to say, "that was ten years ago." Instead, the line was "that was in 2004." I think we need reminding that not everything has changed, and in fact, anything going on now is even worse than ten years ago, because it's 2005, and we all (including the boys) know better.
Tells it like it is!.......2005-01-14
Margaret doesn't sugarcoat the realities of being an executive female. But she's not on a rant, either, and provides plenty of upside and solid strategies. The Naked Truth is recommended reading for women on every rung on the ladder.
Muy Fantastic!!!.......2004-10-11
5 stars for certain and a must read for business women. My hat is off to margaret who speaks directly to issues and DOESN'T ask women to be more like men. She presents many different ideas - some her own and some presented by other women. Its wonderful to read a book that speaks to you and you feel involved in. Well done indeed.
