Book Description
By the big red barn
In the great green field,
There was a pink pig
Who was learning to squeal.
There were horses and sheep and goats and geese--and a jaunty old scarecrow leaning on his hoe. And they all lived together by the big red barn. In joyous and exuberant
Pictures, Felicia Bond lovingly evokes Margaret Wise Brown's simple, rhythmic text about the cycle of a day on a farm, where a family of animals peacefully plays and sleeps.
In the barnyard there are roosters and cows, horses and goats, and a pink piglet who is learning to squeal. Margaret Wise Brown's lulling story about a day in the life of a barnyard is now available as a sturdy board book. Felicia Bond's atmospheric illustrations add to the tranquil simplicity of this story.
Customer Reviews:
Great learning book!.......2007-08-01
Our 18 month old daughter loves this book. Easy to read, easy for her to follow. We enjoy it at bedtime. Words and pictures teach animals, some numbers, colors, etc. Much to gain from this book! Highly recommend!
One of our favorites!.......2007-06-14
This book is such a classic. My kids love it, but it is also one of my favorites. As with most Margaret W. Brown books, the words just flow and capture the kids' attention. My son loves horses, so he really loves the pictures of the farm animals. I like this book even more than "Goodnight Moon."
Better Offerings Out There.......2007-05-13
The illustrations in this book are good but too small in the board book format for little ones. If you really want this book, purchase the traditional sized hardback edition.
Love this book!.......2007-05-12
I can recite this book by heart and so can my 2 1/2 year old grand daughter. Sometimes we will be driving or playing in the yard and I will start reciting and she will join in. At night when you read it together and look at the beautiful pictures, it calms you and relaxes you (and the child) and gets you set for a nice nights sleep. I can not give it more then 5 stars but I would if I could. Every good grandmother should have this in her arsenal!
Great Book.......2007-05-09
This is a great book to read to your child beginning at an early age. The colors are wonderful for them to look at. As you read the story you can teach them all about farm animals. Highly recommend this book to all parents.

Customer Reviews:
Boynton's Best.......2007-09-15
My wife and I received this board book from a co-worker of mine about three months before our first son was born -- almost nine years ago. A daughter and another son later, this remains my favorite children's board book and definitely a favorite of my three children during their first couple of years. The tempo, simplicity and fun illustrations captivated them. Even though the books has been chewed, drooled on and worn down, it is one of those books that we'll save for our grandchildren because it holds special memories of what must be nearly a thousand readings that produced joyful smiles and laughter from our three children. We love Sandra Boynton books and we rate this one the best of all.
cute book with interesting text.......2007-08-23
This children's book is cute with all of the barnyard animals dancing around and contains more content than typical children's books out there. The only reason I rated it a 4 and not a 5 is because the illustrations are pretty colorless and one-dimensional. They really don't hold my child's attention at all. Maybe they will when she is a toddler, but for now, they just don't appeal to her. Being an artist, I can't say that I blame her! The text on the other hand is very lively and imaginative, so I sing the words and act them out to my child with over-the-top gestures, and that seems to do the trick!
Barnyard Best.......2007-08-03
My baby LOVES this book. We can read the story and then go through the whole thing again just pointing out animals and making each animal's sounds. This one is a must have.
I have three books by Sandra Boynton for my four-month old.......2007-07-17
I plan to buy more from the Sandra Boynton collection. My four month old loves this book and the other two we have (Snuggle Puppy and The Belly Button Book). She has shown interest since she was two months. Her books rhyme which makes them fun to read.
Best Baby/Toddler Books!.......2007-07-09
my mother-in-law got my son the barnyard dance and my son loves the book! I love reading it to him because you can sing to it and its fun. I already bought him Pajama Time and I am off to buy some of the box sets.

"Beep! Beep! Sheep in a jeep on a hill that's steep."
This story, much like the jeep, gathers momentum from page one. When five foolish sheep cram into one jeep, their high spirits and occasional lack of foresight (like forgetting to steer) combine to make a riotous, if ill-fated, road trip. Plummeting over a hill, tumbling into a mud puddle, yelping for help, these muttonheads just can't get their act together, much to the delight of young readers.
Nancy Shaw's Seussian rhymes are guaranteed to tickle every reader's funny bone, while providing a great little learning tool, as well. Who wouldn't want to learn how to read, after hearing lines like this: "Jeep goes splash! Jeep goes thud! Jeep goes deep in gooey mud!" Well-loved illustrator Margot Apple humorously captures the dopey expressions and preposterous predicaments of Shaw's sheep. More wild and woolly misadventures can be found in any of Shaw and Apple's other sheepish titles, including Sheep on a Ship and Sheep Take a Hike. (Ages 2 to 7) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
What could be better than a misadventure from that rambunctious flock of sheep in board-book form? Two! Now sized perfectly for even the smallest hands, two of Nancy Shaw and Margot Apple's enchanting titles from their sheep series are board books. In Sheep in a Jeep, the hapless flock goes for a drive in the country. In Sheep in a Shop, the sheep are off to the store in search of the perfect birthday gift. With these muttonheads, a normal outing is sure to turn into a joyous lark. Rhyming text and disarming illustrations make these shear delights!
Customer Reviews:
It's a Jeep thing..........2007-09-10
As a Jeep owner, when I saw this book at my library's book fair - I just HAD to get it for my toddler. A year later, we still love reading it. The rhymes are great and so memorable that we find ourselves using some of the lines whenever a mishap occurs in our daily lives. Whether you're a Jeep owner or not - this book is a MUST have!
Sheep in a Jeep.......2007-08-11
Good basic rhyming vocabulary with plenty of humor. Nicely done lesson on consequences of not focusing on the task at hand. Good clear illustrations. Good to hear now with lots of sound effects and to read alone later.
Beep Beep...........2007-06-11
Excellent rhyming, good morals, sturdy construction. The favorite book of my 18 month old, for almost a year now. Allows kids to empathize and show emotions as the characters traverse their misadventure. I wish I could give it 6 stars.
ANOTHER WINNER FOR THESE TWO FOLKS........2007-05-12
The team of Shaw and Apple is seemingly a winner and they are in the process of creating a collection of children's classics. With this offering, our funny band of sheep take a jeep ride and you can only imagine the results, or better yet, let these two ladies imagine for you. The rhyming text is one that will stick with you and you will find many of the lines going through your head later in the day after a couple of readings with your child. The illustrations are of their usualy high quality and, as always, go perfectly with the text. This is a good one to read to your child one on one or is a great one to read to the entire class. I do home these two keep turning them out.
Laugh and Laugh.......2007-01-23
I read this to my 4 month old and he loves it. It rhymes, has lots of onomatopoeia, and plenty of opportunities for adding sound effects and emotional expression.

Kuplink, kuplank, kuplunk go the blueberries into the pail of a little girl named Sal who--try as she might--just can't seem to pick as fast as she eats. Robert McCloskey's classic is a magical tale of the irrepressible curiosity--not to mention appetite--of youth. Sal and her mother set off in search of blueberries for the winter at the same time as a mother bear and her cub. A quiet comedy of errors ensues when the young ones wander off and absentmindedly trail the wrong mothers.
Blueberries for Sal--with its gentle animals, funny noises, and youthful spirit of adventure--is perfect for reading aloud. The endearing illustrations, rendered in dark, blueberry-stain blue, will leave you craving a fresh pail of your own. (Picture book)
Customer Reviews:
A classic for a reason.......2007-08-23
A wonderful book that depicts Sal and her mother's adventure on blueberry hill. Beautifully written and fun to read, my kids have deemed it one of their all-time favorites!
A little long..........2007-08-15
While I love the story, the simple illustrations and the theme, I think it is somewhat longer than it needs to be. My two year old tends to agree and begins squirming to get another book before we finish the story.
great story.......2007-08-14
A cute little story with a little suspense. About a girl and her mother, a bear and her mother on a mountainside all collecting blueberries. A little long for young children (1-3) but will be a nice bedtime story later on.
Blueberries for Everyone!.......2007-08-07
Blueberries for Sal is one of the best children's books available today. Ranking right up there with Dr. Seuss and Frog and Toad Are Friends, the illustrations and writing in this wonderful story make a special time out of story time.
Sal sneaks some berries out of Mom's bucket, and then wanders off for a nap. Waking up, she follows "Mom" pushing through the underbrush...who turns out to be a kindly Mother Bear. Little Bear, meanwhile, has done the same...ending up following Sal's Mom!
Sorting out the children and Moms, with both families leaving full of blueberries, helps us all to understand just how alike we are -- all beings who inhabit this lovely earth.
Told with humor and great illustrations, this is an excellent gift in hardback for the new baby, or for any child's birthday or going-away gift, ages 1-10. Highly recommended. I've read this book to my children probably 35 times over the years, and I look forward to reading it to my grandchildren as well.
Blueberries For Sal.......2007-05-14
This is a timeless book for children that all enjoy. What a delightful story! My children and now my grandchildren love this wonderful story of two youngsters getting mixed up on Blueberry Hill.

Portable and very interactive.......2007-10-02
I too selected book primarily as it was an inexpensive book ( with good reviews) which helped meet a free shipping requirement ! what a gem.. Small yes, but my 14 month old son loves it !.The flaps are beautifully designed into the pictures and it is such a delight to see his face light up each time we lift a flap. . Yes the flaps are a little snug, but we do it together.. I loosen them as he turns the page and he then thinks he is doing it all alone ! Its nice and small, so its very transportable. I was looking for more of these... Zoo animals ???
Great book.......2007-09-19
This is a great book. My son flips up every page; he loves it. It's nice and compact which makes it perfect for an on-the-go book. I just bought a bunch to have on hand to give with baby gifts.
Good book for a 1 or 2 year old.......2007-09-05
This books associates animals with sounds and is great for a child who dose not yet read. There are no words, you make the sound of the animal and your child is suppose to identify the correct animal. There is a flap that hides a picture of the correct animal that you can open to display the correct answer. Fun little book but quite redundant and not challenging enough for a kid that already reads.
Cute Chunky Book.......2007-08-31
Perfect for your diaper bag and for those times when your infant/toddler is whiny...the open the door flaps will keep them occupied for a little while. Good value too!
Cute simple book.......2007-08-03
This book is simple and cute. It's a nice size for little hands and sturdy too. The flaps are a bit difficult to open when you first get the book, and I actually tore a few of them. All in all, this is a cute book to introduce animal names and sounds to a young child.

beautiful book.......2007-01-10
Wonderful story and a pleasure to read over and over. Makes me teary every time, very touching. Rhythm of the story seems to help my son go to sleep.
Heart-warming Story.......2006-11-29
This book is a great family read. It covers three generations on a family farm. This illustrations are awesome. Patricia MacLachlan has written a great book for young children along similar lines as her Sarah, Plain and Tall series. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Definitely In the Top 5 of All Children's Books.......2006-08-24
Almost everyone else has said it already--this is as good a book as you can read to your kids. Not, contrary to what an isolated review suggested, stilted at all. Just beautifully evocative of a family living complete and joyful lives, with their ties to the land still unbroken.
Touching, beautiful, full of love.......2006-06-05
I love this book! I bought this book for my son (then 3) when I was expecting my daughter. Admittedly, this is MY favorite book. My son would much rather read something silly than poignant. But this book is GORGEOUS! The illustrations are achingly beautiful. The love in this multigenerational family leaps off the page. There is a home birth, love of the land/ nature/ farming, and sibling love. The boy in the story is taught by his mother, father, grandfather and grandmother about "all the places to love." The story closes with him teaching these things to his new sister. Every once in a while, my son asks me to choose the books I like best for our reading and I always choose this one. Don't get me wrong, he likes it too (he's now 5) he just doesn't usually choose it. You won't regret buying this book!
Passing on the things we love.......2006-04-17
I am not only a Book junkie, I am a grandma who wants to pass on the Passion. I fell in love with this book not only because I grew up in rural Michigan, on a dairy farm, with my grandparents up the road. But because this book captures the love and family bond that I want to pass to my grandchildren. Mike Wimmer did an exceptional job of bringing this lovely story to life. I Dare you to read this out loud to any child you love .. and not shed a tear!

I bought this set for my grandson and am very pleased with it! It has five titles (The Color Kittens, Mister Dog, I Can Fly, Baby Farm Animals, The Jolly Barnyard, and The Happy Man and His Dump Truck) which are old favorites with some favorite author/illustrators, including Margaret Wise Brown and Garth Williams. The reason for buying the set AS a set, however, was the blank create-your-own Golden Book! I think this is a great idea and look forward to seeing my grandson's own story!

Great Infant/Toddler Book.......2007-01-11
They used to read this book frequently at reading times in Ohio when my daughter was in baby laptime. She always loved it and I gave it to a friend as a gift. She says that her daughter is really enjoying it as well.
Awesome.......2006-03-03
This book is great. I not only have my own children but I own a child franchise and I read this book to our 10-13 mo. olds and 12-15 mo. They just stare and smile and try to grab every page.
I love this book.
Your toddler will love it, but the flaps will tear!.......2006-02-04
Your little one will have plenty of fun pulling down the flaps in this colorful book. However, the large flaps in Peek-a-Moo! are thick paper and therefore easily tear and crease. Also, if you have a toddler who does not want or understand to close the flap back up with each page (such as the case with our 14-month-old daughter), you need to make sure the flaps are back up before you turn the page. Otherwise, they will hang out the bottom of the book, vulnerable to further damage from the wrath of an active toddler. We have other lift-the-flap books that have smaller, thicker flaps that automatically close when you turn the page (such as Dear Zoo--highly recommended), which are in much better condition.
A must for toddlers!.......2006-01-16
Excellent source of learning animal names and sounds, my 14 month loves it!
My Daughter Loves Both Peek-A-Moo & Peek-A-Zoo.......2005-12-17
My 12 month old daughter loves these books. She tries to repeat the animal sounds as we go through the books. She has my husband and I read these back to back repeatedly! I highly recommend both of these books.

Fisher-Price Lift-the-Flap Playbooks.......2007-01-04
A good sturdy book for a young child and one that will hold up.
Great Little Book.......2007-01-03
My granddaughter loves to lift the flaps to see what is underneath. This book is one that she can enjoy for a long time.
Excellent learning book.......2006-11-14
I bought this for my 1 year old daughter who LOVES it. The first day we read it over and over again for half an hour. Fortunately, there are also lots of other interesting animals/things in the background to point to and name. So, not only does it alleviate adult monotony, it expands your child's vocabulary. All of the characters in the book are drawn to look exactly like the other Fisher Price Little People toys, so if you have the barnyard playset they are easier to identify and link. The flaps are sturdy and easy for little fingers to get under to lift. One of my daughter's favorites!
Fun book for teaching preschool concepts.......2006-08-29
I am not the biggest fan of the Little People product line, but this book is really quite good. It is a very fun book that most preschoolers will really enjoy. It's a great way to get your child involved and excited about counting, identifying shapes, colors and animals and understanding opposites.

Chewable book helps baby develop "appetite" for reading.......2007-08-25
I bought this book for my newborn because I wanted her to grow up loving to read. When she was a few months old, she loved to chew on the soft cloth pages and stare at the brightly colored pictures. Then she learned how to turn the pages. Now at 10 months, she still loves to touch the 3-D part of each page and hear me read the simple rhymes.
We love all of the different objects and textures that she can touch and explore on each page:
1) Fluffy yellow chick
2) Red velvety rooster comb
3) Soft white terry cloth duck
4) Wooly sheep
5) Black felt horse mane
6) Squishy orange vinyl cow mouth & nose
7) White vinyl goat horns
8) Curly pink pig tail
9) White satin duck wing
This crinkly cloth book is easy for babies to hold and great for teething. It also keeps little hands busy during car rides. Although the manufacturer recommends surface cleaning only, I've successfully washed mine inside a mesh lingerie bag on the gentle cycle. And it still looks new...
This Chick Loves the Fluffy Chick Book (and So Do Her Baby Chicks!).......2007-07-28
I am not sure who enjoys this book more, me or my nine month old twins! It is a very visual "soft book" with interesting textures on each animal. Some even have that great crinkly paper that makes sounds as your child grabs it. My daughters really enjoy touching the different textures on the pages.

Cute Book, Great Colors.......2007-07-22
The illustrations in this book are fantastic. They are vivid and bright and catch my daughter's attention. I like the interactive features in this book. Such as the "wool" on the sheep, the "comb" on the rooster, and the "downy feathers" on the chick.
Great for smal people.......2007-03-08
Daughter is 8 months old. She has enjoyed this book since she was quite small, maybe 3 months or so.
It's nice because it is cloth, so when she drools and chews on it, it stays in tact, unlike the board books that now look like a pack of dogs savaged them.
It has fun "illustrations" wit at least one texture difference per page, and the text is nice and short and rhymes, so you can semi sing it and turn the pages fast.
It singlehandedly kept peace on an airplane flight !.......2007-02-16
As we took our six month old daughter on her first airplane ride to California, we felt a great a deal of trepidation. However, once we brought out the Fluffy Chick book during the flight, all was wonderful ! She laughed and was fascinated by the book, and she didn't cry once during the entire flight to California and back ! Of course, nearby passengers may not have been excited by our multiple (quiet) readings of the Fluffy Chick book to our daughter, but I think that they were very grateful for the quiet !
