I can't say enough good things about this book!.......2007-09-24
This book helped me get through a very difficult time a while back. In the time since, I have occasionally felt the anxiety levels creep back up, and I have come back to this book. It isn't one to be read one time, but is worth reading again and again.
It is easy to have this book recommended to you, or even to have someone give it to you and leave it sitting on your shelf. I did that when I first received it. Don't do that! Read it and see if you can grow and glean from it as so many of us have done. It can really help you move beyond worry to trust, and it builts more than just anxiety-free living. It helps accomplish the opposite -- contentment and acceptance of your lot. If you struggle with worry or discontentment, this is the first book I would recommend. I can't say that enough!
Excellent.......2007-09-11
I couldn't imagine Linda writing a book more helpful than Creative Counter part, but this is the proof (for me at least). This book is applicable to the Christian woman no matter what stage of life she is in. I have found it to be encouraging and helpful in my growing relationship with Jesus. Thanks again Linda.
A great book for every woman........2007-09-06
My sister-in-law gave me this book. It's the best gift I've ever been given. I've bought several copies to give to women in my family and friends. The book addresses what peace we can have when we hand our concerns to God and learn to always be content. I wish I'd read this when I was young. It's a book to read several times as a great reminder to hand it all over to God.
Life Changing .......2007-07-14
I am an avid reader and rate this as one of the best books I've read in a long time. It is well written with inspiring stories from Eastern Europe to add illustrate the point of each chapter. More than just a good writer, Linda brings out the major obstacles to spiritual growth and what to do about each one. Since reading the book a few months ago I have seen changes in my life.
Good study........2007-07-12
This book was a good book, helpful. The title was definitely the subject matter, and it's one that is very necessary in our society today. Repetitive in a couple of chapters, but overall I recommend it.

Book Description
I believe we were put on this earth to enjoy lives of joy and abundance, and that is what I want for you and for me. It's not my intention to give people advice on how to solve their problems (I leave that to my husband). But I've had my share of struggles over the years, and I know a thing or two about what has worked for me. I have chosen to be an active participant in my life rather than a spectator, and in so doing I have chosen how to be a woman, how to be a wife, and how to be a mother in ways that are uniquely my own. I offer the stories of these choices as evidence of the power of sheer determination, will, and faith in God.
You've seen her on television with her husband, Dr. Phil. But now it's time for a heart-to-heart conversation with Robin McGraw. In
Inside My Heart, Robin speaks woman to woman, inspiring you to embrace and celebrate the many roles you play and encouraging you to make deliberate choices that lead to a richer, happier, and more meaningful life.
She shares with you the life-changing moments of her childhood years, dating and marrying Dr. Phil McGraw, raising two sons, and asserting herself as a woman in a man's world to show you that you have the power to make choices in your life. In fact, she's convinced that you must choose to go after the life you want.
With a deep and abiding faith in God, Robin McGraw shares her story so you too can make choices that reflect your own heart's truest priorities and highest goals.
Customer Reviews:
Great book for every single and married women.......2007-10-07
Am half through this book, but yet I have found it very engaging in the way she shared her journey in life. I flipped and read briefly in the bookshop and decided to buy it before reading reviews in Amazon. I read negative comments and/or critics about the book structure, repeated messages she kept saying from the first chapter. But I disagreed with all these, this book is NOT a self help book, the topic is about choices she made in her life to become a person she is now. She didn't say it's the best choice for everyone but she showed how she got to that choice. It's not about a journal of her roles as a wife of a fairly famous person, but she shared with the reader many revealing moments in her life, either funny, sad and heartbreaking stories when she discovered a choice she believed and stick to it. I've been away from my parents' house since my twenties and after 10 years living far away from them and my siblings, I felt so close with the way I tried to live my life the best I can the way she did ((well not all the time sometimes). What I meant is to reflect every struggle in life as a lesson and how to react to it. I've been living fairly secured with my parents, afterwards living without pennies as a student, be in the lowest point in spirit and then joined this company where I have lived to the extent I've never ever imagined before but still deep inside I hold to the values I believe and those are values I carried from home till now. I truly believe her saying she hasn't changed much in terms of values from her childhood up to this point where she could write a book. As a single woman, I also found her comments on how she managed the relationships with Philips very helpful to understand and some even renew my own belief to see the thin line between loving other person and loving myself, when to hold it or just let it go. This is a great book for women who determine to keep looking for better choices in lives, in good and bad times. For some who just want to take easy road to feel as victims in life, then there would be a major work to see Robin's points.
Disappointed.......2007-10-04
AS much as I wanted to, I just couldn't get into this book...extremely repetitive....I was unable to continue reading...
Wonderful!!.......2007-09-09
I love this book!! I'm not a big reader, but I couldn't put this book down. In this book she tells you her life story, and you realize she is just like the rest of us. She is an amazing woman and has such a positive attitude!
Something To Be Said For Nice.......2007-09-03
There are times that I enjoy reading a book, and I read it quickly, and still, I cannot give it top marks. Inside My Heart by Robin McGraw, perhaps better known as wife to Dr. Phil, is one of those books. It is an easy read, one chapter leading into another, as we grow warm with empathy and curious about the life of this woman, arguably successful via her marriage more than for any particular accomplishment of her own. I've come to respect her husband's work (and I didn't initially, feeling he was riding on Oprah's coattails and reducing psychiatry to sound bites, yet after watching some of his shows and reading his columns in O Magazine, realized this man has pretty sound judgment about the quirks of human nature), and so, rather vicariously, became interested in what his wife had to say...
Robin has nothing new to say that we haven't already read in other women's inspirational and empowerment type of books. Nor am I clear on why a religious-based publisher like Nelson would have chosen to market her book in Christian circles and bookstores; there is very little mention in it about Robin's spiritual beliefs or influences on her life. And yet, I must admit, by the end of the book, I'd grown sympathetic to this woman, could imagine enjoying a personal friendship with someone like her, and give her my nod of respect for the life decisions she has made, and for her courageous value system. Ah yes, values. Something of which we are so achingly devoid in modern society. Robin makes sense of having them again. She writes about her approach to being a woman, a wife, a mother, a businesswoman, all based on well-defined and usually very traditional values. Husband Phil comes out pretty shiny and admirable, too, subscribing to the same values, as any good husband and father would and should. Even if we already know these values, we certainly can use reminders such as this. They work.
Nothing literary about this writing, reading more like a protracted magazine article than a soul-baring deep-diving personal expose. And the pull quotes are rather annoying every few pages, serving no purpose that I can see other than getting in the way of a smooth flow. But you know? I liked it. It's a nice book, with nice things to say, and perhaps it is time to fly the flag for the value of niceness again. I dare say we all secretly long for it.
Choosing to Live with Passion and Purpose.......2007-08-08
The book is excellent and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to live with passion and purpose.

Be Still My Vampire Heart .......2007-07-24
Angus MacKay is a Scottish vampire who owns MacKay Securities. He provides protection for coven masters such as Roman Draganesti. Roman has sent Angus to investigate a vampire slayer who has been killing the vampires known as Malcontents. The Malcontents are ruled by Casimir, a very old and evil vampire. Katya Miniskaya is a Russian coven leader who needs to stop the slayer before Casimir kills her for not protecting her coven.
Emma Wallace is a vampire hunter. She works for the CIA as a member of the Stake-Out Team. When she meets Angus while hunting in Central Park one night, she can't help but be attracted to him. When she realizes he is a vampire, she tries to keep her distance from him.
Angus doesn't just want to keep Emma safe, he wants her for his own. Somehow he'll have to gain her trust. As they fight against Katya and Casimir, Emma is torn between her hatred of vampires and her feelings for Angus.
Kerrelyn Sparks has created her own unique vampire world with Be Still My Vampire Heart. She made up new rules and scenarios for these vamps that are different than most other vampire stories, creating this amusing and interesting tale. Angus' Scottish accent, combined with his brawn and power are very seductive, and Emma is strong, capable, and beautiful. They make one tough couple! Be Still My Vampire Heart is funny, sexy, exciting and a blast to read!

Really Good.......2007-05-13
This book was really funny, for being the 3rd in the series you usually get a good book but not as good as the first. It was just as good. There were some really funny moments. It was good to see the other characters, exspecially Roman and Shanna and they also have a good moment. The hero was really sexy and his Scottish accent makes my heart melt. The heroine, is also sexy but very determined not to have anything to do with the hero but of course you know that never works out. A very great read...

First published in 1970, this extraordinary book changed the way Americans think about the original inhabitants of their country. Beginning with the Long Walk of the Navajos in 1860 and ending 30 years later with the massacre of Sioux men, women, and children at Wounded Knee in South Dakota, it tells how the American Indians lost their land and lives to a dynamically expanding white society. During these three decades, America's population doubled from 31 million to 62 million. Again and again, promises made to the Indians fell victim to the ruthlessness and greed of settlers pushing westward to make new lives. The Indians were herded off their ancestral lands into ever-shrinking reservations, and were starved and killed if they resisted. It is a truism that "history is written by the victors"; for the first time, this book described the opening of the West from the Indians' viewpoint. Accustomed to stereotypes of Indians as red savages, white Americans were shocked to read the reasoned eloquence of Indian leaders and learn of the bravery with which they and their peoples endured suffering. With meticulous research and in measured language overlaying brutal narrative, Dee Brown focused attention on a national disgrace. Still controversial but with many of its premises now accepted, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee has sold 5 million copies around the world. Thirty years after it first broke onto the national conscience, it has lost none of its importance or emotional impact. --John Stevenson
Book Description
Now a special 30th-anniversary edition in both hardcover and paperback, the classic bestselling history The New York Times called "Original, remarkable, and finally heartbreaking....Impossible to put down"Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is Dee Brown's eloquent, fully documented account of the systematic destruction of the American Indian during the second half of the nineteenth century. A national bestseller in hardcover for more than a year after its initial publication, it has sold almost four million copies and has been translated into seventeen languages. For this elegant thirtieth-anniversary edition -- published in both hardcover and paperback -- Brown has contributed an incisive new preface.Using council records, autobiographies, and firsthand descriptions, Brown allows the great chiefs and warriors of the Dakota, Ute, Sioux, Cheyenne, and other tribes to tell us in their own words of the battles, massacres, and broken treaties that finally left them demoralized and defeated. A unique and disturbing narrative told with force and clarity, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee changed forever our vision of how the West was really won.

BURY MY HEART ! (the truth of how our government "won" the west).......2007-10-10
I first read Dee Brown's book, Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee (1970) as a college assignment in the 1970s. It changed the way I looked at America/our country, America/our history and America/our land. The book is subtitled "An Indian History Of The American West", and focuses on the period of 1860 to 1890. This was after "The Trail Of Tears" of the 1830s, when the Cherokee, Choctaw, and other Indian nations were forced against their will to evacuate the eastern United States and move west. The book covers the Apaches, the Navajo, the Cheyenne, the Nez Percez, and the Sioux, among others. The wars, the injustices, and the sad fate of men, women, and children who died trying to pack up and move their lives yet once again. Brown doesn't portray the Indians as saints, but only as people with limited resources who, too many times, trusted the promises of a government that would, time and time again, go back on it's word, and forcibly humiliate them and worse. Brown also points out that sometimes the Indians overreacted by attacking innocent non-military settlements. Mostly the book is a concise account of the real Manifest Destiny story, and it expels the myths of the old American History 101 textbook, and the romantic Hollywood cowboy/injun-fighter version of our history. It's a tragic and cruel story, really. It's the true story of the progress of one generation of people at the expense of a civilazation. Unfortunately that progress was paved with broken promises, injustice, and lives forever lost.
A Wake-up Call for Americans .......2007-09-05
I just (July 2007) acquired my new copy coming from Amazon. I lost my old copy in 1995. I was not naive about politics and government in 1995. Any scintillas of trust in politics and government, are now gone for even more different reasons. This book seems to keep me awake and keeps my ears wider open to what can happen in this country and this world. It is not just about the shameful and bloody acts in our westward expansion. The word "treaty" from these times is a joke. I can also see more about international expansions. America makes large wrongs, as do other countries do to their own people in history. My heart feels buried because Americans, we, made such innumerable, horrendous and cruel acts. This book remains to me as a great "jolt" to my consciousness. He put together a great example of what America did do to the Native American Peoples. Look at the status of the Native American Peoples who are left today.
Original Eye-Opener.......2007-08-03
This book was and contines to be a wake-up call to the asleep teaching of American History. Especially that of Native Americans and most notably our utter ignorance of our history with Latin America.
A great book.......2007-07-01
Bury my heart at wounded knee is a oustanding account of native american history. Very informative and captivating, piquing my interest in native american's. The words tell of a people heroic, caring, hospitable, and understanding almost pushed to the point of annihilation at the hands of conquistadors, whites and others. Sadness, anger, hate, and sympathy are just some of the feelings brought out by reading this book. If you want an unflinching account of native american history this a great place to start.
bury my heart at wounded knee.......2007-06-27

Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni made an indelible impression on the literary world with her first novel, The Mistress of Spices, a magical tale of love and herbs. Sister of My Heart is less reliant on enchantment but no less enchanting as it tells the tale of two cousins born on the same day, their premature births brought on by a mysterious occurrence that claims the lives of both their fathers. Sudha is beautiful, Anju is not; yet the girls love each other as sisters, the bond between them so strong it seems nothing can break it. When both are pushed into arranged marriages, however, each discovers a devastating secret that changes their relationship forever.
Sister of My Heart spans many years and zigzags between India and America as the cousins first grow apart and then eventually reunite. Divakaruni invests this domestic drama with poetry as she traces her heroines' lives from infancy to motherhood, but it is Sudha and Anju who give the story its backbone. Anju might speak for both when she says, "In spite of all my insecurities, in spite of the oceans that'll be between us soon and the men that are between us already, I can never stop loving Sudha. It's my habit, and it's my fate." Book lovers may well discover that reading Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is habit-forming as well. --Margaret Prior
Book Description
From the award-winning author of
Mistress of Spices, the bestselling novel about the extraordinary bond between two women, and the family secrets and romantic jealousies that threaten to tear them apart.
Anju is the daughter of an upper-caste Calcutta family of distinction. Her cousin Sudha is the daughter of the black sheep of that same family. Sudha is startlingly beautiful; Anju is not. Despite those differences, since the day on which the two girls were born, the same day their fathers died--mysteriously and violently--Sudha and Anju have been sisters of the heart. Bonded in ways even their mothers cannot comprehend, the two girls grow into womanhood as if their fates as well as their hearts were merged.
But, when Sudha learns a dark family secret, that connection is shattered. For the first time in their lives, the girls know what it is to feel suspicion and distrust. Urged into arranged marriages, Sudha and Anju's lives take opposite turns. Sudha becomes the dutiful daughter-in-law of a rigid small-town household. Anju goes to America with her new husband and learns to live her own life of secrets. When tragedy strikes each of them, however, they discover that despite distance and marriage, they have only each other to turn to.
Set in the two worlds of San Francisco and India, this exceptionally moving novel tells a story at once familiar and exotic, seducing readers from the first page with the lush prose we have come to expect from Divakaruni.
Sister of My Heart is a novel destined to become as widely beloved as it is acclaimed.

Just don't stop reading.......2007-04-17
It took me a while, the first 100 pages to really get into this book. But, at that point, it got so good, that I couldn't wait to finish it. I think it is really hard to write a book that will draw tears, but this book was so touching, I just couple hold back. The relationships were so real, and I loved how she centered the book around Indian culture, which I know very little about. Highly recommended.
I just bought this book for my mom!.......2007-03-24
I could not put this book down once I started reading it! I now am obsessed with reading everything else by Divakaruni! Her work is beautiful and emotionally satisfying--not your typical "chick lit"!
Another original, heartwarming read from Divakaruni.......2007-01-04
Sudha and Anju are cousins born on the same day - they are as close as the closest of sisters and the best of friends.
Set against a background of tales, traditions and customs of India, `Sister of my Heart' lets us get a glimpse into Indian culture, but as with `Mistress of Spices' it's the author's obvious love for each of her characters that makes this book really shine.
This is a heartwarming, unusual and beautifully written story and I'd definitely recommend taking the time to read it.
Not the best but a very good read.......2006-12-27
Easy & captivating read. Lives of two "sisters" interweaving through life kept me reading to the end although I could see some of the twists coming. Glad everything was left tidy at the end. Enjoyed the ride through Indian culture, myths & stories. I definitely recommend it!
a really good bad drug.......2006-10-31
This book is like a really good bad drug. The characters are never what they seem: one moment, you're happy and moved by one. The next moment, it's as if a rug has been pulled out from under you because that same character has transmorphed. In this book, Divakaruni artfully strings together beads of heartbreaks and joys. One moment, it's as if you will never recover from a heartbreak. The next moment, some happy event comes along. Then, when you're on the brink of fully healing, another heartbreak--more poignant than the last one--takes you by surprise.
The only thing I did not like about the book is that it's such a distraction from whatever work or chore, I need to be doing instead of reading.

Featuring more than 70 stories collected as part of "the Feathers project," Feathers Brush My Heart is a comforting book for women in times of loss. Each story, ranging in length from a couple of paragraphs to several pages, speaks of some sort of communication between mothers and daughters; what they have in common is that in each case, the mother has already passed away. In every other way, each story is entirely different.
The women who contributed stories are of all ages and income brackets. Some write movingly of abuse and dysfunction during their childhoods, while others pen with equal grace tales of close, loving relationships with their parents. Some gifts are as simple as finally learning to make their mom's beloved peanut butter fudge. More complex tales show repeated instances of protection and strongly felt presences in the midst of physical danger.
Dreams, impressions, and objects all figure strongly, and many women write of the particular significance of a special flower, ribbon, vase, or article of clothing. Author Sinclair Browning ties this collection together with gentle musings and recommended readings, along with a few short stories of her own. And while the details vary, the core message remains consistent: those who love us are never truly gone, and contact is always available if you remain open to the possibilities. --Jill Lightner

It is full of inspiring, wonderful true stories of women who lost their mothers and had signs of them being near them after passing. The most wonderful thing happened to me after I finished this book a couple of weeks after my mothers funeral. I was going to church every morning at 7 a.m. for mass every day on my way to work after she died. One morning I was sitting in my usual pew in front of the Blessed Mother statue waiting for service to begin....I looked down as I knelt to pray at the pew seat in front of me and there was a feather! It was over 3 inches long - I looked everywhere else around me - no other feathers but the one right in front of me. I believe this was a sign from my mother. Please read this book - your mother is still with you...you will always be together.
HELPED SO MUCH AFTER DEATH OF MY MOTHER.......2007-06-02
I have given this book to about four of my friends whose mothers have died. It is a compilation of stories from women of all walks of life who have experienced some sort of "visit" or sign from their mothers after their mothers have passed on. It is so interesting and so comforting. It expresses what many of my friends have experienced but hadn't been talking about. Are these visits coincidences or are we living in a dream here and the world after this is the real world? It gave me great comfort and hope when my mom died, and I continue to hear from her in so many ways.. strange bird visits.. dog visits, dreams.. I cannot recommend this book enough to anyone who has lost a mother, whether they were on good terms or bad. I will continue to order this book and share it with my friends. Thanks for reading!
Feathers Brush My Heart.......2007-03-09
A very intersting book relating experiences women have had after the death of their mother.
Slow Read.......2007-01-14
This isn't a book you should buy if you just want to get from beginning to end in a hurry .. its a book you read a story or two and then set aside while you digest - or dry your tears .. bought one for each of my sisters as well - we lost our Mom this year and this book touched my heart
The Cardinal.......2007-01-08
I just finished reading this book and sat wondering how my mother would contact me. I love feeding the birds and began to wonder what kind of bird my mother would be if she choose to visit. A cardinal, so beautiful and bright, that's what she'd be. I'd made up my mind.
I put the book down, walked to the kitchen and stood in shock. There sat a cardinal in the lilac bush, just several feet away. I'll never forget that day.
My mother passed away 25 years ago and this was the first time I can say I truly felt her presence.
Sadly, I will now give this book to my niece. I just attended her mother's funeral. I don't want her to wait 25 years.

Book Description
Heather Whitestone. Her name has become synonymous with incredible determination and unprecedented achievement. In Listening with My Heart, Heather tells her own story and the stories of others who have inspired her, proving that with hard work, perseverance, and faith, each of us can move mountains. Profoundly deaf since she was eighteen months old, Heather strove to live a normal life, and refused to listen to the voices of discouragement that many of us so often hear, no matter what problems confront us. She wouldn't listen to the doctor who said she wouldn't develop beyond third-grade abilities, or to those who said she would never dance ballet, or even speak. She did, however, hear the encouraging spirit of her family and followed the guidance of her own heart's dreams. Struggling through her difficulties, she was sustained by every success--no matter how small--and ultimately became Miss America 1995. Though she is disabled, her incredible gifts have inspired many throughout the world, and in Listening with My Heart she at last shares her life-changing wisdom.

great story.......2006-03-13
really good book. only thing not perfect is the quality of the pictures in the softcover version. Otherwise great.
Refreshing!.......2006-01-11
Struggling to come up with title for this review shouldn't have happened, for "refreshing" describes this enjoyable read.
Heather is an honest, open and Christian person. Her humility to share her fears, exasperations, even private darker moments is refreshing!
And then there is her deafness. She is honest and open here as well, lamenting at times the deaf culture, but also showing sensitivity to their plight.
I'm a page-bender, underliner, note-taker kind of reader who continually marks passages in the great reads that I have, and this book has so many of them. I wanted to communicate them in this review, but will choose to just give some salient phrases from them so that you'll read this marvelous book: "going to bed means getting some sleep"; returned autographs which included Scripture quotes; Miss America wearing a clown on her head; dreaming and God's Word.
Haven't read such a refreshing work in quite some time; treasure as a precious Christmas gift that it was.
Inspirational book.......2004-08-31
This was a really good autobiography about Heather Whitestone, former Miss America. She talks about her struggles as a deaf person and her experience as Miss America, and how God has worked in her life.
I really enjoyed her book. I like how she was so open about her struggles with a deaf person. She didn't feel like she fit into the deaf world or the hearing world. Yet, she continues to persevere, and with God's help, she overcomes her obstacles to become Miss America. And she is open with her struggles as Miss America, too. She talks about the need for privacy and her struggles with criticism from the press.
A great, inspirational book.
An Inspiring Story.......2002-10-22
Because I have a grandbaby who was just diagnosed with profound deafness, I have been reading all the books I can about how deafness affects those who are deaf. Heather Whitestone's story was so inspirational and gave me a great deal of insight of how it feels to be deaf and different from the hearing world, and to understand what obstacles might arise, and to take heart knowing that most can be overcome if you have faith and the fortitude to meet the challenge. Her story also gives insight into the debate between the use of sign language, oral education, and cochlear implants, and the prejudice that still exists among some people in the deaf culture. A truly informative and inspiring book.
Heather's an Inspiration!.......2000-08-04
I am inspired by Heather Whitestone when I read this book...she is an inspiration to many deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals like myself. She taught me in this book that no matter the outcome, anyone with a disability can do just about anything in life...even marrying a good, handsome man named John McCallum and being the first deaf Miss America. This Christian autobiography is one of my favorites because it is very interesting to read and there are good pictures of her and her husband, family, even deaf actress Marlee Matlin. I even noticed by reading this book is that Heather and I have things in common with each other such as we both grew up as oral deaf. I love this book and I know you will too...you will enjoy it as much as I did.

One for your permanent library.......2007-04-29
A beautiful and engaging story, this memoir deals with coming of age, learning to accept and give love, coming to terms with parents, and death and dying. Geneen Roth masterfully writes about many of life's large universal themes and puts them together expertly into a cohesive whole. This story will stick with you. This book is one of those rare gems to keep in your permanent library, one that will surely unfold a different lesson and mystery each time you read it.
Worth re-reading over and over!.......2006-08-04
I love this book and I often re-read it. Funny and clever writing. Easy to relate to and written with heart!
Hope for those who have suffered a loss.......2006-07-12
Parents, like all humans, are imperfect. When they die, we sometimes recall events, actions, and issues that make us question why we may have ever thought they loved us. Pets, on the other hand, come with no strings attached. They love unconditionally and are a source of joy that is boundless. Geneen covers losing both in the funny and touching book, which may offer healing and hope for those who have lost either.
Narcissistic woman, narcissistic family, but the cat is nice........2006-06-10
I was extremely disappointed with this book. It has a great title and the concept of someone who loved neither cats nor herself learning to live with both interested me.
Lo and behold, Geneen Roth spends less than a page describing her antipathy to cats. She gets Blanche, suddenly he's ten years old, and there's no description of how she came to accept something she formerly disliked.
Her description of herself as an overweight, selfhating shopaholic (there are many, many mentions of earrings) is followed by a description of her immediate marriage to an apparent saint. Ms. Roth spends most of the book describing how successful, rich, and spoiled she is--how many people get Zen masters and acupuncture treatments for their cats?--but the greater part is spent on describing her neuroses and her father, pretty much in that order.
Ms. Roth is apparently stung that her father left his money to his wife rather than to her and her brother. If she truly loved her father she'd not have expected anything; after all, his medical treatments were 'only' half a million dollars. His wife is described as working as a secretary. Why does a millionaire's wife work? Possibly because she needs to for financial or personal reasons? In any case, Daddy's money was his, not hers, and he probably felt that Ms. Roth had enough on her own, while the wife needed it more.
This is a self serving tale of a very privileged woman who likes to write about herself. I would have appreciated hearing more about the cat.
Wonderful and tearjerking read.......2006-05-14
This book was absolutley wonderful! It pulls at your heart and really makes you think. I recommend it to everyone. Geneen has a great way with words. I have enjoyed some of her other books as well such as Appetites and When You Eat at the Refrigerator Pull Up a Chair.

Awesome!.......2007-09-25
Okay, I ABSOLUTLY LOVE this book and I can't wait to read the rest in the sieres!!! I cried and cried and yet I loved it! And I NEVER cry at books! I don't want to give away too much of the story (you can look at the other reviews for that) but it really made me step back and look at the story of Leah and Rachel (sp?) in a whole new way. I've always thought of Leah as being a kind of prostitute or something- throwing herself at Jacob when he was drunk. There is, of course, some sexual content, but that's to be expected. In this book there are no 'good' people or 'bad' people- it's all who you relate to and feel compassionate towards. Maybe that's why I love it. It's like real life! Twisted and wrong and right and full of sorrow and joy all molded together so that it's almost impossible to tell the difference. I love Liz Curtis Higg's books and hope she continues to write them!!!!!!!!

Couldn't put it down!.......2007-09-06
Even though this book mirrors (loosely) the biblical story of Leah and Rachel, Higgs takes many twists and turns to create a work of fiction that will leave you emotionally stirred and shaken. Couldn't put it down! Even if you are not a fan of Christion Fiction Higgs will change your opinion in this timeless love story.
Exceptional Read.......2007-07-13
"Thorn in my Heart" was a wonderfully written book. The book's main character Leana is very believable emotionally. I cheered her on all through the book. She was flawed, BUT she repented and asked for forgiveness. Rose however, had me hoping that her character would have a change of heart, but instead, she grew more embittered and selfish. The descriptions in the book were so vivid and colorful! By the end of the book, I was craving shortbread:)
Love the Entire Series!!!.......2007-03-25
Could not put the entire series down once I started. You have to read all 3!! The author does a wonderful job of translating Scotland to the pages and you can feel the love pour out between the characters.
I highly recommend this to anyone who likes a romantic read!
THORN IN MY HEART.......2006-12-05
I ENJOYED THE BOOK. THIS BOOK GIVES THE A POINT OF VIEW FROM SCOTTISH HISTORY AND A TIME BEFORE JESUS; WHEN SUPERSITITON WAS PREVALENT AND TIED TO CHRISTIAN BELIEFS. THE STORY LINE WAS WONDERFUL. BE PREPARED THIS BOOK IS FICTIONAL. IT GIVES SOME POSSBILITIES OF HOW RACHAEL AND LEAH FELT WITH JACOB. THIS BOOK IS FOR ENJOYMENT ONLY. IF YOU WANT TRUE FACTS OF JACOB, LEAH AND RACHAEL'S STORY. READ YOUR BIBLE!!!!! READ ONE BOOK AND YOU WILL WANT TO SEE HOW ALL FOUR END; THORN IN MY HEART; FAIR IS THE ROSE' WHENCE THE PRINCE CAME, AND GRACE IN THINE EYES

A fun read, especially if yoiu're a sports fan. I read it in search of things that would help my own ability as a coach in my company. Much of it is light stuff but the easy read makes it fun nonetheless and there are few golden nuggets laced throughout the book.
