Book Description
Chicago Stars quarterback Dean Robillard is the luckiest man in the world: a bona-fide sports superstar and the pride of the NFL with a profitable side career as a buff billboard model for End Zone underwear. But life in the glory lane has started to pale, and Dean has set off on a cross-country trip to figure out what's gone wrong. When he hits a lonely stretch of Colorado highway, he spies something that will shake up his gilded life in ways he can't imagine. A young woman . . . dressed in a beaver suit.
Blue Bailey is on a mission to murder her ex. Or at least inflict serious damage. As for the beaver suit she's wearing . . . Is it her fault that life keeps throwing her curveballs? Witness the expensive black sports car pulling up next to her on the highway and the Greek god stepping out of it.
Blue's career as a portrait painter is the perfect job for someone who refuses to stay in one place for very long. She needs a ride, and America's most famous football player has an imposing set of wheels. Now, all she has to do is keep him entertained, off guard, and fully clothed before he figures out exactly how desperate she is.
But Dean isn't the brainless jock she imagines, and Blue—despite her petite stature—is just about the toughest woman Dean has ever met. They're soon heading for his summer home where their already complicated lives and inconvenient attraction to each other will become entangled with a charismatic but aging rock star; a beautiful fifty-two-year-old woman trying to make peace with her rock and roll past; an eleven-year-old who desperately needs a family; and a bitter old woman who hates them all.
As the summer progresses, the wandering portrait artist and the charming football star play a high-stakes game, fighting themselves and each other for a chance to have it all.
Natural Born Charmer is for everyone who's ever thought about leaving their old life in the dust and never looking back. Susan Elizabeth Phillips takes us home again . . . and shows us where love truly lives.

One of her best..........2007-08-31
I am a fan of Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and this book did not disappoint! It was funny, and the characters were, as always, well-developed. This is one of her best books, in my opinion.
Deja Vu.......2007-08-14
I felt like I was reading Heaven, Texas, one of my fav by this author, all over again while reading this. Moreover, Heaven, Texas was a better novel then this book by far. And this is why I felt this book only deserved 3 stars by me.
There was no freshness to this story, it all seemed the same. So beware SEP fans, if you've read her other novels, you'll feel like you wasted your money if you bought the hard cover edition. However, if you've never read other works by this author, you'll enjoy this witty, love story.
Natural Born Charmer.......2007-08-12
Another 10 stars!! If I could give it that rating I would. This is the last in the series *I think* about the "Chicago Stars" football team. I just discovered SEP's series about the fictional team late last year, and promptly devoured each one. They are all on my "keeper shelves"....This story is about Blue & Dean, and in my humble opinion...it was just the perfect story to end things. Blue grew up being shuffled around, due to her mother being a peace activist & her father dying before she was born. I can certainly identify w/that nomadic existence as I had somewhat of a "gypsy" childhood myself, growing up. As for Dean, he was the bastard child of a rockstar & a groupie. Not planned or wanted & basically denied a relationship to said "dad"...which made a definite impression on Dean. He grew up to be a fantastic QB for the "Chicago Stars"...and to see what his son grew up to become, humbles the now aging rock star. I even have some elements of this story in my own life...just not w/famous people. So I enjoyed this theme. Someone not being treated the way they should/yet overcoming/and becoming better for it...is such a great story to me. Underdog wins!! Only now the underdog is now on top!! I want to tell you...the potential next buyer/reader about every juicy, incredibly satisfying detail of this book. But at the same time I don't want to ruin the fun of you discovering these rich, amazing, totally genuine people. Sometimes the characters in SEP's books are so incredible, you feel like you know them. These two fractured people find each other, entertain us, and manage to fall in love at the same time. The cast of various supporting characters were great too. Riley was my mom's favorite! Did I mention she's falling in love w/all of SEP's books too? Please buy this book!! I promise you'll love it as much as I did!!
One of her best.......2007-06-01
I love all her Chicago Stars books and think this is one of the funniest. The dialogue and interaction between Blue and Boo made me laugh out loud. I hated to finish it but will listen to this one on audio and recommend it to all my friends who are avid readers.
thanks susan - keep writing and i'll keep reading.
Trying too hard to be hip.......2007-06-01
I generally enjoy this author, but I am getting tired of the Chicago Stars football team and their stories. If you have read "It Had to Be You" or "This Heart of Mine" you might as well skip this one. It is a retread of the same formula she has used before - with a few new innovations - this time Phillips sprinkles the f-word around pretty liberally. I don't really care to read that and it is not necessary to the story or to the character development. All I can think is that her editor told her she needed to do that to appeal to a younger audience. I have been reading her books for almost 20 years. Guess I'm done now.

A hillarious new novel by New York Times Bestselling author Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Dean Robillard is the Chicago Stars' hotshot quarterback. Not only does he have lightening reflexes on the field, he is also utterly gorgeous. First seen in the critically acclaimed Match Me If You Can, Dean is trying to recover (both mentally and physically) from a shoulder injury by taking a road trip. He meets a beautiful woman, down on her luck, along the way and, as they spend more time together, their attraction grows. Blue has had a string of bad relationships and doesn't want to trust Dean right away. They wind up living together along with Dean's troubled half–sister and learn that families and luck work in mysterious ways.

Fantastic!.......2007-09-16
I am listening to this CD for the 2nd time because I enjoyed it so much. Very well written story and excellent performance by Anna Fields. The heroine, Blue Bailey, is as sassy and "smart-mouthed" as they come. She is also very intelligent, compassionate, and accomplished. When mega-star quarterback Dean Robillard meets her, Blue is down on her luck and very angry at her ex-boyfriend. The dialogue between the two is priceless - some of the best I have ever experienced in chick-lit!
The other characters are also great and there is even a secondary love story. Wonderful "happily ever after" epilogue. I can't say enough good things about this story or the CD narrator and will definitely recommend it to others!

I love Susan E. Phillips whether I am reading her or listening to the audio book. I just wish this had come in the MP3 format. This book or audio is very funny and will keep you entertained from the first page to the last.
buy it.......2007-03-20
THIS IS THE BEST AUDIO BOOK I HAVE EVER HEARD! Sooooooooooo funny with excellent real-life characters---I wanted to live in this story!
Great fun!.......2007-03-08
Susan Elizabeth Phillips' latest offering is wonderful -- sweet, moving, very, very funny (as always), sexy, inspiring! The CD is very well done by Anna Fields, completed just before her tragic death. Another outstanding romantic comedy by an amazing author!
A must read..............2007-02-21
As usual, another SEP story that had me laughing. Of course I bought it on CD because no one could tell the story the way Anna Fields always did. I'm saddened to hear of her most unfortunate tragedy and she will be missed. I loved the way she played out each character. I really can't believe that anyone else will be able to narrate SEP's stories in the way she did but I do hope they can find someone comparable. I love how the characters all tie in from previous books which allows me to relive the other great books by SEP. Read this. It was hilarious.

I tried and tried to read this book. But, I was half way through it and still trying to convince myself to keep going. Don't bother
New to Celeste Bradley.......2007-03-04
I am new to Celeste Bradley's Liars Series. I really enjoyed this book. I especially love the humor in her writing and the very strong female lead. I will be buying more of this series.
I would pass............2006-10-16
The Charmer (Liar's Club) by Celeste Bradley was terrible. I found myself half-way through the book skimming and skipping parts - just to get to the end. Collis Termayne was a great character in the early novels but lacked something in this one.
First Half of Book Was Tedious.......2006-08-21
Collis was indeed charming, and Rose was fantastic, a perfect heroine, but the telling of the story through the first half was tedious and uninteresting. I found it interesting that all of the Liar and Royal Four stories took place in the same year, 1813. That could have been a disaster but the author pulled it off very well. I've never read another series with that many books in it, where the time line was so close. Well done.
Best of the first 4 books.......2006-08-18
Finally Bradley delivers a story that has engaging plot and characters that mostly stay true to themselves in the end. The conclusion and feeling of a well-deserved romance is delivered in a logical fashion with this story (unlike the first 3 novels that took an abrupt turn midway through and became an entirely different story later).
Rose is a spunky modern woman who has risen above her class to become something deserving of heroism. Collis is the drifting heir apparent desperately in need of a dose of humility as well as purpose to help him recover the man he could be. Together they are the man and woman after.
Only niggles are the historically inaccurate bits. A portly Prince Regent traipsing days through tunnels, scaling wet caverns and surviving a bloody beating is pure fantasy. And there's a complete misunderstanding of the rights of royal inheritance. No bastard son of a royal could be made king at that time. If that were true then Queen Victoria would have given up her throne to one of William IV's bastard brood instead.
But Prinny comes off as a thoroughly likeable character here, whilst the entire series makes one loathe Liverpool. Forsythe is another fun character. Ethan Damont is an odd duck that seems more at home in a Western saloon though (exactly why would a well trained spy seek out the help of a card shark on a rescue mission?. The brothel bits a mildly disturbing given what goes on.
My only unforgivable sin is that twice the hero doesn't seem to behave with emotional honest or depth. In two crucial points where the heroine is believed or actually suffers some emotional turmoil we never see the hero follow through on appropriate feelings. He doesn't get outraged or addresses the situation with her. Just glossed over.
Book Description
Filled with suspense, seduction, mystery, and passionate love, the unforgettable romance novels of Madeline Hunter have earned critical accolades and captivated readers. Now, in
The Charmer, the nationally bestselling author weaves a spellbinding tale of an exiled duchess, a charismatic aristocrat, and a once-in-a-lifetime seduction worth risking everything for...
The Charmer
He’d found her in another man’s arms, the very picture of sophisticated debauchery. But Sophia Raughley knew very well that the truth was much different from appearances. What should she make, however, of this commandingly handsome man who’d burst into her Parisian salon demanding that she return with him to England by authority of the king himself? Adrian Burchard had no idea of the painful memories that had driven the beautiful duchess into a self-imposed exile across the sea, but he was clearly not going to take no for an answer. Yet this devastatingly seductive man had a tormenting secret past of his own—and powerful enemies in England that they both shared. As Sophia falls under the spell of his erotic charms, and Adrian finds himself unable to resist her passionate response, they embark together on an irresistibly dangerous affair that will either destroy them both—or prove the one thing that can save them.

Throughly enjoyable ............2007-07-20
A man on a mission, a woman determined to have things her own way and a country in turmoil combine to make The Charmer an enthralling and scintillating read. Two very strong lead characters, each bound by their past come together in a steamy battle of wills that kept me rivited until the last page had been turned. This series just keeps getting better and better.
A breathtaking and suspenseful tale .......2006-08-27
It's hard to live in a world where you don't know, at first, who your friends are, and learning to discern your true friends from fair-weathered ones starts at a very early age. It's also hard to live in a world of privilege where there are heavy expectations on your shoulders, that as a woman, it is your duty to marry a gentleman of your father's choosing for his own purposes and not yours.
Sophia Raughley, heir and daughter of the Duke of Everdon, lived in such a life. Instead of succumbing to her father's obstinate will to marry his choice for her, she fled to France. Eight years later, her father is dead and the King of England has summoned her home. England is in turmoil and Sophia has in her power as Duchess of Everdon enough votes to swing the political pendulum toward the Tories. King William and his influential men plan to forcibly bring Sophia back to England, marry her to the man her father chose for her, and thus subduing Sophia to her husband's will.
Adrian, third son of an Earl and also the Duke of Wellington's man, is sent to France to retrieve Sophia. He successfully does his task but becomes increasingly disillusioned as he discovers the plans laid out for Sophia's future. Sophia, for her part, sees herself surrounded by enemies, but despite her reservations, she finds an unlikely ally in Adrian.
There is a lot of backstory to this tale but it makes the ending that much more exciting. Sophia's father is evil, calculating and morally repugnant. It seems he somewhat redeems himself in the end but, for him, it comes too late.
This was an exciting tale with intricate storylines and a plot that, upon its full unveiling, was both shocking and scandalous. You won't be disappointed. Madeline Hunter never ceases to amaze me. She comes up with such great storylines and supported with beautiful prose, wonderfully endearing and heroic characters and vile antagonists.
Thoroughly Disappointing.......2006-02-22
As an avid romance genre reader I don't have high expectations for the books I read. However, even this one failed in my book. In fact, I did something I never do, I failed to finish the book. The plot dragged, the characters were dull and no one was charming. Skip this one.
ITS ALL DOWN-HILL AFTER MARRIAGE.......2006-02-18
This is the first book I have read by Madeline Hunter and I enjoyed it, up until towards the end.
The story is about Sophia, a duchess who ran away to France nine years ago, both to escape her callous father and her title. Now that her brother and father have died, the King has requested her presence, both for the subject of marriage and also for political reasons, since she now possesses 12 votes for the house of commons.
Sophia neither wants the title or wants to leave her new home, a haven where she sorrounds herself with artists and free-thinkers. But, Burchard, the third son of an earl and outcast in his family because of his mother's infidelity, has been sent to deliver her back to England.
Both characters were very fun and intriguing. I especially liked Burchard's character because I think he is very unique in the historical fiction genre. He's actually a nice guy, very mature and knowledgable. He does not possess egotistical views of women, and though he might be a tad bit arrogant, he is genuinely a good guy. Even though he has been led to believe that Sophia led a very "colorful" life, that of a "worldly woman" he does not hold that against her. He doesn't think less of her as a person. That was a very different stand-point in historical romance coming from the guy's point of view.
I also liked how Hunter did not make Burchard an earl or a duke, someone with a high position in the realm. He wasn't born with power and was treated almost exactly like a commoner. Yet, he made his way up in the world, trying to get a seat on the House of Commons. Nobody made it easier for him to be wealthy or successful. It made the story so much more real.
It was also nice that Sophia, 29, and Burchard, 34, were close in age. I know girls married young back then, but I'm not comfortable reading books about 16-year-old debutantes getting involved with 32-year-old rakes. It grosses me out. Burchard actually liked that she was closer to him in age. He didn't want a young girl with an immature mind. It made his character even more intriguing.
What bothered me about the story, the reason I gave it only 3 stars, was because after the Burchard and Sophia are married, the tale starts getting really boring. I hate to say it, but everything went down-hill in the novel after the marriage. The author could not keep my attention afterwards, it was like she ran out material to keep it exciting.
All in all, though, it was very funny and that's a good enough reason to read anyting.
Fun and saucy reading!.......2005-12-01
As like her other books in the series ~~ I am thoroughly charmed with this book! It was a fast read for me and one that I couldn't put down! FUN FUN and more FUN! =0)
This one focuses on Adrian Burchard, third son of an earl, falls in love with Sophia, who suddenly inherited her title, Duchess after her father's death. Sent to Paris to retrieve Sophia to claim her father's inheritance, Adrian didn't know what he was in for. By the time he realized, it was too late ~~ the young woman has him falling over himself just like her other suitors. The difference is, they both discovered that the other is their soulmate.
This is a fun book ~~ one guaranteed to keep you reading till the last page has been turned!

Bright and Charming.......2007-03-15
A return to form after a few disappointing novels, this has all the SEP trademark quirks - too gorgeous athlete with troubled childhood, quirky defensive heroine, small lost children, and a fluffy dogs. It has the older (but not too old!) couple reconciling and some snappy dialogue too. I really enjoyed it.

The story could have been better...........2007-02-19
I just finished reading this book and I have to say that I agree with almost everyone here. Although the social issues showed a lot of realism, the love story between Julian and Claudia just dragged on. I like Julian better than Claudia who came across as "bratty" and "whiney." There were a few times that I wanted to hurl the book across the room because she was always jumping to the wrong conclusions. Yes, she was hurt that Julian had forgotten the 2nd waltz he promised when she was 17 yrs old. Instead of acting like the 25 year old lady that she was, she came across as a teenager. Not only that, I just couldn't stand Sophie even though I truly felt sorry for her and her plight. Overall, I like the story. I just wish that the author didn't have to torture the reader(s) too much!
Not that ruthless or charming.......2006-01-12
Julia London's Ruthless Charmer is neither ruthless, nor particularly charming. I gave it a C.
Centering on Earl and guardian Julian Dane and Earl's daughter and woman's activist Lady Claudia Whitney. While both characters are initially compelling both suffer from a variety of issues that are never fully flushed out. He ends up being overbearing in things that make no sense to even himself and she becomes a whiney, shortsighted brat.
Having known each other for years, one night they are compromised into a marriage neither of them want. They both love the other but believe the other hates them, then convince themselves that they hate the other. With no one main issue dividing them, it becomes a mishmash that you ultimately don't care much about.
In the background is a tragic story with Julian's youngest, self-conscious sister Sophie. She runs off with a terrible man who ends up extorting money from the family and beating her. The helplessness felt by the entire family is too big a thing to be a background to Julian and Claudia's bickering.
While Sophie is saved in the end, things are wrapped up too quickly and suddenly for the main couple.
A Shame, the characters if they would have remained true, rather than wishing washing between strange fights and long romantic and self effacing monologues, they might have been a good couple.
The heroine never really owned her own mistakes.......2005-08-16
This is was the primary problem for me. Julian is quite wonderful, but it is primarily his attempts to keep from being hurt by her that cause him to contribute negatively to their relationship. Claudia, however, makes huge mistake after serious erroneous assumption, often dating back to childhood and teenage slights, and repeatedly makes hasty judgments wihtout thinking them through first. These things inevitably lead to her hurting Julian, putting someone else in harm's path, etc. The worst thing is that she never truly learns or admits just how wrong she was. Oh, she does somewhat, but it's never enough to be convincing. Julian, on the other hand, makes this discovery and admission, but he allows Claudia too much credit in his changed perceptions.
These neverending problems and misunderstandings drag down an otherwise good book. The look at domestic violence and historical gender inequalities is realistic and eye- and heart-opening (even if you already know the facts). Claudia's youthful insecurities are understandable, but they are taken too far here. There are many good things in this book, and the slightly messy ending of Sophie and the rest is realistic. I wish London had not taken the couple's difficulties so far; they hurt each other so much (especially Claudia hurting Julian), that forgiveness came much too easily and quickly.
A charmer yes - but certainly not ruthless.......2003-11-28
Eagerly, I purchased the three books that make up The Rogues of Regent Street series. I had absolutely loved both The Devil's Love and Wicked Angel and rated them both five stars when I reviewed them on this site. But this series has not lived up to my expectations. The first in this series, The Dangerous Gentleman, was quite good but lacking when compared to her those first two London books I had read. I easily rated it a solid four stars when I reviewed it. However, The Ruthless Charmer, barely holds on to a four star rating. I would rate it a three and one-half if that option was available.
Julian Dane is the roguish hero who is tiring of that lifestyle. The suicide/death of one of his closest friends, Phillip, has left him shaken, even two years later, and he blames himself for his friend's death. He believes he could have prevented it had he just paid more attention. We don't really see Julian in full rogue mode. He has become increasingly interested in a long time friend, Claudia Whitney, and wants to pursue a relationship with her. However, she doesn't seem the least bit interested.
Claudia is a nineteenth century feminist. She is quite happy with her life as a single woman who spends her time and efforts on helping women. She is constantly attempting to raise funds for both a woman's shelter and a future girl's school for the less fortunate. She had been involved with Phillip prior to his death and blames their mutual friend, Julian Dane, for his death. If only Julian hadn't always encouraged Phillip's rakish ways, he probably would still be living. There is a lot of history between Claudia and Julian. She had grown up as a close friends to his many sisters and had a crush on him as a teenager. Although she is still attracted to him, she would never be foolish enough to hope for his love because she believes him to be too corrupt to ever be faithful. It seems Claudia is one very judgmental heroine. And she is one of the more belligerent and hateful ones I have read as well.
Julian proves to be a very likable character with much more patience than the average hero. The leads argue most of the book and don't even seem to like each other all that much. They each hold affection for the other but neither seems able to comprehend this glaring fact. Their continued conflicts become old quickly and it becomes tiresome, as we are privy to their insecure thoughts again and again and again. This is one story that is based largely on The Big Misunderstanding but in this case it should be referred to as The Big Misunderstandings. This couple has so many of these misunderstandings between them as one determines to show their love to the other only to give up just as the other has determined to show their love in return. There is so much angst between the two and they both appear a little stupid to not recognize or believe actions or actual words of love from one to the other.
Despite these conflicts, I still managed to be entertained and there are certainly some tender moments between the two. The sensual scenes are infrequent and rate about a 3.75 out of 5.0 (see More About Me for rating guidelines). This is a story that is primarily about the romance. There is a villain but thankfully, he only occupies a little of the story.
As I mentioned earlier, this is the second in a series of three. Although I was aggravated with the leads' interactions, I still recommend this series for some enjoyable reading. I am currently reading the third, The Beautiful Stranger, and it looks like it will be a five star rating. Julia London is an author I will continue to follow as her new books are released and I look forward to reading the remaining books on her backlist.
2nd in the series of Rogues.......2003-02-14
I loved the first book and couldn't wait to read this one. I was really disappointed. I finished it but it did not capture me as the first one. I have yet to read the 3rd in the series do to being so disappointed with this one.

Great for parties!.......2007-08-26
This little book does not come with any of the shrinky dink plastic, but, it has tons of adorable (perfect sized already) pictures to shrink down perfectly to little charms! There is something for everyone in here. For my daughters 6th birthday, we are making earrings, pins, and zipper pulls/shoe charms. One of the things I am planning is for each of the girls to make one of the several little girl pics of themselves with their names on them and hot glue them to pins and let them exchange them with each other so they all have a charm of each of their friends. There is a page of about 9 or so little girls that the kids can color to create themselves, then a box below it to write their name. I was thinking about getting them all a little hat or a visor that they can put their pins on of each other. They can make earrings, pins, zipper pulls, charms for bracelets, necklaces...there is even a set of smaller ones that you can make rings with! Kids are amazed with Shrinky Dinks, as are us moms! For the kids that have never seen them, they really love them! And for the kids that have, such as my daughter, they are excited to get to do them some more! I recommend this pack for jewelry making!
Does not come with any shrinkable plastic sheets.......2006-09-29
This book does not contain any shrinkable plastic sheets. It only contains designs to trace onto the shrinkable paper.
There are no specification about the shrinky dinks papers..........2006-06-06
I was so disappointed, when I receive the book... I was hoping it has all the stuff together.. I mean the special paper.that shrinks.... so I now has to buy separate... and has to buy it soon,,, cause I was planning and activity with a lot of kids....
Too bad... that does not say clearly!!!!!

Although she's been hurt in the past, she determines to get more for her money than dinner and pleasant conversation. Rick Markham is ready to settle down and raise a family with his ideal woman: a tall, slender, beautiful blonde. This description does not apply to the sultry, plus-sized Jennifer Rose, who wins a bidding war with his ideal woman, requiring him to spend an evening with her. After a surprising dinner, a slow dance, and several kisses that excite and arouse him, Rick is ready to hop into the sack with Jennifer for a one-night stand. Neither of them is prepared for what happens when he does... Publishers Note: This book follows The Fall of Troy but can stand alone.

Merely Okay at Best........2007-07-11
I usually love romance novels featuring BBWs, but I can't say the same for this one. I didn't realize it was erotica when I bought it so I was kinda turned off by the graphic language and descriptions. It would have been forgivable if there was more substance to this story, but there isn't. It was predictable and there was no climax (no pun intended) to speak of. Also the dialogue was crass and just didn't ring true, especially between Jennifer and her friend. There was a scene where two characters discussed the difference between porno literature and erotica, and ironically I'm inclined to think that this is more porn than erotica. I'm disappointed that I wasted my time reading it and even worse that I spent money on it. If you can borrow it from a library, go for it, but I wouldn't recommend buying it. For higher quality romances featuring BBWs try Bet Me, The Next Big Thing, or He Loves Lucy.
Not bad.......2007-05-15
After the reviews that this book received from previous readers, I wasn't really expecting much. But, I have to say I enjoyed it. Ok, yes, they did focus on the fact that she was heavy, and he was blonde. A lot. But besides that, it was ok. It was a fast read.
The Worst Novel Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-01-24
I am an Ellora's Cave junkie. I've read almost half of their books and have been satified with them. This novel was awful and I mean awful. I can't believe they allowed this book to be published. I am asking. No, begging you to not even waste you time on this novel. Now, if your one of those people who are curious as to how awful this book is. Make sure you pay less than a dollar for it.
romantic and sexy.......2007-01-10
i loved this book it makes a real change to see the full figured woman get her man be warned the sex scenes are racy the story starts with a bachelor auction in which our heroin buys a date with her hunk and the fun begins if you enjoy this book you will love Take Me by Bella Andre i did
BBW with a happy ending.......2006-09-18
Bravo!!! Ms. Lee has done it again. I am a big fan of Ms. Lee and "Full Bodied Charmer" is a follow-up to her "Fall of Troy"; however, it is a stand alone book. Rick never saw it coming. He was purchased at a bachelor's auction by Jennifer Rose, a full-figured woman, not exactly his dream women. The story is a wonderful romance with great passionate scenes. You will definitely want to add this one to your collection.
Book Description
This is a psychological study of charmers, con artists, and their hidden alter-ego, the abusers -- how they got that way, various profile examples, and how to recover from their artistry of killing you softly with their charm.

a must read.......2005-07-10
I read this book after getting a hand out in a recovery class. The hand out was on Charmers and Con Artist. It had this book title on it. I have never been so glad to have bought a book. If your in an abusive relationship or not you must read this book. You probably know someone who fits the profile and you will save yourself and others a lot of angish. Be enlightened know the signs, read this book.
I now know I have been in a relationship with a charmer for the past 11 years and trying to get this charmer out of my life for the past year and a half. It has been hard trying to convince myself and others that this person was not who they pretended to be... I fell in love with who this person wanted to be, who my charmer pretended to be, I wasn't allowed to see the REAL person until it was too late and then I didn't trust what I saw and felt.
it seemed no one believed this person could be like that. Too bad I couldn't invite the world behind our doors. But as I read this book I just knew my life was the case study. Thanks to this book, I'm learning to trust my judgements, my gut feelings and just because other people can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there. I lived it, they are watching the made for TV version.
Now that I've read this book. I know better what I am dealing with, I can see the charmer characterists in business associates, relatives, they are everywhere. But, now I know what I'm dealing with and I can also see that 'my charmer' is turning the corner to con artist. Knowledge is the best weapon. Read this book and be prepared. You'll be glad you did.
Victims Understand.......2005-01-01
I would like to address the 'knightofthelance' reviewer. I appreciate your review; however, I think your statement that the author's admisssion that she has also been a victim and that you saw that as tainting her work with bitterness, etc., does not jell with so many other self-help books written by victims who finally 'see the light'. Most victims are encouraged by knowing the author knows whereof he/she speaks. To them, it lends further credibility to the author's understanding of the issue and greater insight to their own experience. I think the other reviews show that. This subject matter may not touch you as deeply if you have not been victimized. While you seem to try to be objective, victims are, of necessity, subjective. The feedback from them is that the message is water in the desert, validation that they are not crazy, and gives a ray of hope for recovery. For them, it is life changing.
Subject matter long overdue!.......2003-04-19
I was a victim of the charmer/con artist/abuser. This book was detailed, informative and insightful. I could not put it down. My son now wants to read it after having me read several excepts aloud to him. As I read on the train to work, people would ask me where they could get the book (just from viewing the title). My one disappointment in the book, however, is that it didn't offer a viable and/or Spiritual manner of resolution to the problem. I plan to order two more for my Pastors.
When good books go bad.......2002-02-18
This book starts out very well, with some good, specific information. Unfortunately, it goes downhill from there. The author makes a point of qualifying herself by saying she had fallen victim herself, and that's where the problem lies. The book starts out objectively, but quickly turns subjective with the author's feelings and bitterness leaking through and coloring her information. Am I sorry I bought it? No. It fits well into my extensive collection on con artists. Would I recommend it for the casual reader? No, or at least not without a big grain of salt.
This Is One of The Most Important Books You'll Ever Read!.......2001-08-19
I read this book at the suggestion of my mother who sent one by mail to me with the admonition to drop everything else I was reading and concentrate solely on this. Charmers and con artists are not limited to one gender or the other. At one point or another, each of us has been taken in by a male or female "smooth talker." This book helps you to identify the characteristics so you don't become the same fool twice or even three times for that matter. The tools they use are universal. Discrediting credibility is first. Know that you're not crazy as they may imply. If it doesn't feel "good" then its not good. We need to start paying closer attention to the internal meter. It would save us a lot of headaches and heartaches. I have recommended this book to everyone that I can. I haven't run into anyone yet who didn't identify with what is written on the back cover. The information in this book will help you better understand how not to play into the charmer and con artists' hand. Read this book immediately if not sooner!
