I found out about the nuclear link to cancer (radiation.org is one source) after I got non genetic breast cancer 11 months after my mother died of it. I realized our government was not telling the public about the nuclear dangers and the impact on our health. Then I read this book. This book begins with an FBI agent describing a criminal investigation that explored the involvement of the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI superiors. Learn about these nuclear crimes, the government's role and the people who stood up for the truth. Stunning information! Fabulous book!

5 out of 5 stars This man is for real!.......2007-02-02

I personally heard this man speak at a full gospel business mens meeting about 20 - 22 years ago in Cedar Falls, Iowa. I have never seen such humility in a man. I bought his books and read them and then shared them with friends. His story is a documented account. It can be verified. You need to read both Tell them I'm coming again and Caught up in Paradise. They will change your life.

5 out of 5 stars A Faith Builder.......2006-12-28

I actually read this book for the first time some 20 years ago. At the time I was skeptical, but I kept reading. I can't say that I believed all it, but I was inspired by every word. When I finished reading, I purposed to live a life of faith where I was waiting for, and expecting the workings of a Supernatural God to invade my pitiful life. Let me say that God has been faithful! Today I am chronicling my own supernatural experiences for my kids in hopes that as the times grow more difficult they too will be inspired. Until that time, I will give them a copy of this book because we all need a Supernatural God who builds in us, words of testimony!

Caught Up Into Paradise is a true story. It tells of many interesting facts that has happened in his life. He is a Christian man named Richard that lives in a world of sin. It is so amazing to learn from what he went through. He is blessed in so many ways. One part of the book he tells how he died when he fell off of a balconey and came back from being in heaven and tell how it was for him. This is just one miracles out of many he has had. In this book he is testifing of all the miracles that has happen in his life.

5 out of 5 stars Doc Eby is still at work ministering with books and tapes !.......2004-06-20

It is amazing how dense people are - even more incomprehensible how vicious and unloving people are - - Dr Eby never said Jesus was coming back during his ( Eby's ) lifetime, Doc claimed that Jesus told him that he would not be able to reach all the people he would like for him to reach before His ( Jesus ) returned - Doc Eby is still reaching out to people through the ministry of books and tapes and the Lord of Glory is waiting - delaying - His return out of love and mercy in hope that more of the mean spirited will get to read all of Dr Eby's books and discover what a kind and loving person he was and what a miracle he is in surviving the horrors of this life to live to a ripe old age ! We have much to learn from Doc Eby yet and we need to find some of his videos for duplication and distribution so we can see what he really did have to say ! Full Gospel Business Mens Association may have some of Doc Eby's videos ? Doc Eby is one of the first I wish to meet, after Jesus !

5 out of 5 stars Judge not and ye shall not be judged........2004-01-21

I realize that Dr. Ebby made a mistake in saying that he would
live until Christ's return, but let's not forget the life of the
man. There is no question in my mind that the good Doctor was
a man of God - this I think most of us can agree on. I think
we should be very careful when we place ourselves in judgement
of others. Let's remember the wonderful things he did and said and not the one mistake he made in a lifetime of valuable service to God. Jesus himself said, "judge not and you shall not be judged" - Matt. 7:1. There was only one man that ever lived a perfect life and his name is Jesus.

If you just want to read about sex--uninventive, formulaic sex at that--then buy this book. If you're interested in stories with plot and developed, believable characters, then save your money.

If I could give this no stars, I would.

3 out of 5 stars Didn't keep me interest like I thought it would........2007-01-17

The beginning of this book started off hot and steamy but it didn't stay that way. I put this book down way too many times and as you can imagine it took me way too long to finish it. The storyline was average and naturely could have been better.

5 out of 5 stars Caught Up in the Rapture.......2007-01-08

Jacques Winthrop, a French-American Federal Agent, has been chasing Alex Brickman, an American fugitive, on and off for the past thirteen years. Alex is a mastermind, criminal genius known all over the world. Jack is obsessed with capturing him because Jack witnessed up close and personal the evilness of Alex's lethal ways. The past eight months have been a highly intense pursuit for Jack and to make matters worse, Alex escaped his clutches once again while in Paris. Angry and tired while eating dinner in his uncle's restaurant, Jack encountered a lovely American woman by the name of Tracy. Instantly attracted, Jack set out to seduce her. After three wonderful days of exploring Paris together, they ended that last night with great passion in bed. The next morning Jack woke up to find Tracy gone without a trace. He has no way of finding her because he did not know her last name or even where she lived.

After returning home from a fantastic European vacation, Tracy Adamson was eager to tackle the new challenges of starting her new business. However, there was one problem, Tracy's mind was else where because she could not forget the explosive night in Paris she spent making wild, passionate love to a man that she barely knew. Never expecting to see Jacques again, Tracy was shocked and fuming mad to learn that not only was `her Jacques' the best friend to her girlfriend's fiancé. In addition, he was an American not the Frenchman she though he was.

Refusing to allow her to slip through his fingers once again, Jack pursued Tracy ruthless even shamelessly as he was determined to have a relationship with her. Tracy fought hard to avoid this. However, it was not before long they were caught up in throes of a fiery, love affair. Nevertheless, all was not good for the couple as issues from Tracy's insecure past reared its ugly head. If that was not enough, Alex decided to focus his attention on eliminating Jack, before Jack could cause more havoc for him.

Lisa G. Riley is back again with her latest novel, Caught Up In The Rapture, a sequel to At Last. The twists and turns in this book are abundantly clear, that is what makes this a great book. Early on, readers are aware of who the villain is as well as why Jack is so fixation with capturing him. I also found the secondary characters to an enjoyment to this novel.

Because, the villain was a major carry over from the prequel, it was very important to understand his actions. I thought Ms. Riley did a magnificent job of explaining his dealings. I did not feel lost or if something was missing because I had not read At Last. In addition to the thrilling suspense element, there was an issue of trying to build a lasting relationship between an interracial couple. Because of major matters from her past with her mother, Tracy was determined to fall in love marrying a man with a dark complexion. However, things do not always fan out how they are planned. Tracy ended up with the hots for Jack, a white male. Because of this, Tracy was caught between her family and the man she loved. The love scenes between Tracy and Jack were plentiful and sensually written. This book will cheekily raise ones body temperature a few degrees. I have not had the pleasure of experiencing At Last; however, I must say that I defiantly will be reading it in the near future.

5 out of 5 stars Very Well Written.......2006-06-29

I loved this book. The main characters were people that I actually liked and could relate to. Also, there was great (fictional) insight into the Chicago society scene. The "Brickman" factor was just enough without overpowering the main storyline. I would have liked more insight into Jack's and Tracy's parents and their relationships, but there is always hope for a sequel in which I assume KK will be the main focus. Of course, I would really like to re-visit Jack/Tracy and Brian/Caroline after they are married and start families. That would have to be interesting. Great work, Lisa G. Riley!

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, But ..........2006-06-03

I did enjoy this novel. I thought both Tracy and Jack were likeable characters. The love scenes were good although I prefer my love scenes to be alot steamier. In addition, I was grateful for the fact that Tracy was not obsessed by the racial differences between herself and Jack. Race was dealt with primarily through Tracy's relationship with her mother. This novel did not get 5 stars because of the interweaving subplot of Alex Brickman. This subplot is a carryover from the writer's previous novel "At Last" and I am quite fed up with it, since it is more of a distraction rather than an enhancement. It seems only to exist to allow the writer to parlay this theme into future books. There was also one major annoyance and that is the constant reference to Jacques rather than Jack (Jack's mother is French) Querido and Bella.

I was definately caught up in this book. An easy read i finished same day, couldnt put it down. Only hated there wasn't more to read when I came to the end. I won't write what exactly it's about becuz others have done narratives. I will just say this it is worth every dime spent.

5 out of 5 stars Can't Call It.......2005-12-11

I really liked this book. Raven came from nothing, met Nia on a bus ride to the A-T-L. The only thing I did not believe was that who would travel to another state and know what they would do for shelter and a job, but then again, I've never felt like I had to get away from my environment, and go somewhere more exciting and adventurous. And, that is what Raven got. She was lured into strip clubs, and violence. Raven started to become a woman who used sex as an advantage to move up in life. I was amazed at how in some situations she stayed calm or didn't do what everyone else was doing. For example, when Nia, Passion and Tyanna did extasy and had their own menage a trois, she did not participate, instead she observed. She became quit smart. Being apart of a porno business, blackmailing people, but there were times when Raven wasn't so smart. I am happy with how the book ended. She ended coming to her senses and being with the one who was true to her, despite some sad outcomes. This is a must read.

SUPPORT THE AUTHORS, NOT THE PUBLISHER!!!!!!

Raven Klein, a biracial adopted chick from Des Moines Iowa searching for an outlet. As she sets her sights on HOTLANTA she sets out to take on the world, and find what she's been missing.

As chances go Raven meets Nia Moore and in all places a bus terminal. Instantly she's impressed by Nia's obvious big city living, and poise. The two hit it off instantly. Nia extends an offer that Rave simply couldn't refuse!

There are other BLACK PEOPLE! Rave says as she's introduced to Rico, Nia's "agent" Rico a former football player takes in the lonely Iowan without any questions. Nia, introduces Rave to her girl Tyanna. They take little miss inexperienced out and in one night she's fulfilled a lifetime of fantasies... memories!

As Rave settles into Atlanta she goes from stripping to club manager and friend of Rico's to girl in the matter of a blink of an eye. Rave often struggles with the decisions that she's made in order to profit but we watch as she presses on and begins to juggle occupations, as well as men without skipping a beat!

Something's missing! It takes a while for Raven to realize that. True she's beneficial from the physical acts BUT her heart is void the love and vacant the trust. Hard to believe since she does have every Rico, Darren, and Devin- - a variety any girl would be pleased to have not to mention a few bench warmers who truly carry the team!

HOTLANTA has changed the once mousy Rave but at what cost? Can Rave dial back before she's too CAUGHT UP?

Yes Caught Up is a quick read. Nothing out of the ordinary, yet it did quench my thirst with the looming deceit, blackmail, murder, and STEAMIER SCENES! As with any other book I think the authors need to be PRO SAFE SEX! Especially when dealing PORN! The title should speak to anyone about the risks unprotected sex can lead to.

Winston, I automatically subtracted a point for disrespecting Chicago- - -"too dirty!" I'm deeply offended...

I thought the book was awesome and couldnt put it down! That's messed up about what happened to Devin in the end! I wish the book wouldve been a little bit longer. For example, I wanna know wassup with Raven and Darren at the end.....what actually happened to the bouncers?????? Overall it was a great book and I would definately be reading another Winston Chapman book!

Book Description

Found in Iraq and older than the Bible, the Koran, or the Torah, this stirring epic - the world's oldest written story - now becomes available to a general readership for the very first time.

Lugalbanda woke with a jolt. He opened his eyes and what did he see but the terrible Anzu bird beating its wings in its nest high above. . . . Did he quake? Did he quail? No. Lugalbanda the Brave sat and stared, and into his head came a brilliant idea.

Before the Bible and the Koran, before even the Greek and Roman myths, there came a story from the land we now call Iraq. Speaking across five thousand years, in a voice so fresh and timeless it could have been written yesterday, this tale tells of an extraordinary journey, of a magical bird, of a battle that wouldn't end, and of wisdom gained. It is the story of Lugalbanda, a boy in a time of war.

Etched on clay tablets in cuneiform, lost underground for thousands of years, and rediscovered just 150 years ago, this account of the epic adventures of a loyal, resourceful boy is renarrated in lyrical prose by Kathy Henderson and set against Jane Ray's glorious images glinting with gold.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful story.......2006-12-02

The ancient story of a young boy named Lugalbanda, is told in this beautiful book. Taken from Sumerian cuneiform tablets just translated in the 1970's, Lugalbanda's epic adventure from 5000 years ago takes place in what is now southern Iraq. War, a giant bird with shark-like teeth, sickness, and triumph make this an exciting story for readers and listeners alike. Jane Ray enhances the work with her watercolor, ink and collage illustrations. Excellent notes before and after the story are included.

5 out of 5 stars Timely.......2006-11-04

Timely story about a courageous prince in ancient Iraq, an unprovoked war, and a ruler that needed help ending the war. Someone should send this book to President Bush, although he probably wouldn't get the meaning of it. Beautiful illustrations and wonderful story for kids and adults.

5 out of 5 stars Magic, wonder, and a text written entirely on stone.......2006-04-30

The oldest written story in the world. Name it. I'm talking older than the Bible, older than the Koran, and older than the Torah. I hear someone mentioning, "The Epic of Gilgamesh". You're very close. Now just go a mere three hundred years older than that. Did you get it? If you said, "Lugalbanda", then you are correct! Discovered a mere 150 years ago on ancient Sumerian tablets, author Kathy Henderson has pieced together this book out of the poems "Lugalbanda" and "Lugalbanda In the Mountain Cave". The result? An incredibly readable and beautiful book that tells the story of a war in ancient Iraq. Timely, no? The mere fact that Henderson has been able to piece an infinitely interesting tale out of academic line-by-line translations (with some help as well from oral storyteller Fran Hazelton) and combine such a story with the breathtaking art of Jane Ray is reason enough to take a gander at this title. And as the book itself says, "So here, for the first time ever in our days of paper and print, is the story of Lugalbanda told for a new generation".

There once was a boy named Lugalbanda who lived with his seven brothers in the great city of Uruk. Uruk was ruled by King Enmerkar who had built it in honor of the goddess of love and war, Inana. One day, Enmerkar noticed that the faraway city of Aratta had far more impressive treasures and works of art than Uruk. Without further ado then, Enmerkar declared war on Aratta and set off to plunder its booty with his men. Amongst his men came the seven brothers and Lugalbanda. While en route to war, however, Lugalbanda became deathly ill and his brothers were forced to leave him with plenty of good food and drink in a warm cave, praying for his survival. After two days, Lugalbanda awoke and by appealing to the Sun God, the goddess Inana, and the Moon God, the boy was made strong enough to follow his brothers. The tale then recounts Lugalbanda's encounter with the great and terrible Anzu bird, how he got some pretty cool pre-biblical super powers, and the course Enmerkar's war eventually takes. In the end, Lugalbanda is king and his son becomes the great Gilgamesh of lore.

You might ask yourself how interesting a 5,000 year old story (that wasn't even translated until the 1970s) would be to kids today. In this way, Candlewick has been incredibly clever. The book is written with words of a rather large font and then filled to brimming with lush illustrations by Jane Ray. Themes of magic, war, and a boy befriending a great and terrible sky monster... well you might as well be describing the latest, "Chronicles of Droon" adventure. The difference is in the importance of the tale itself. Henderson's care in rendering this tale as accurately and interestingly as possible is to be commended. In the original text it isn't exactly clear if Lugalbanda is the son of King Enmerkar or is just referred to as a prince for another reason. There are lots of questions like that, all handled in an exceedingly deft manner. And as Henderson says of this tale in her "Notes On This Story" at the end of the book, "This was much too important to be left to the world of adults".

Don't go thinking that it was just Kathy Henderson who did all the research on this book, though. Artist Jane Ray studied up on her Sumerian artifacts with visits to the British Museum. This shows in the art. Done in watercolor, ink, and collage, the pictures in this book both reflect the art of the time period while also looking fresh and colorful enough to engage kids today. I was especially impressed with Ray's attention to close details. The baby Anzu bird that Lugalbanda feeds and decorates is spotted with a multitude of tiny flowers and you can make out every barb, calamus, and rachis on the bird's feathered body. It's nice to hold a book in your hands once in a while that can honestly be called beautiful.

Kudos, by the way, to the Sumerians who had the brains to come up with a goddess who was in charge of love AND war. That they could see the connection so directly makes me smile. The story told here about a war fought for the sake of plunder (though in an odd twist, the goddess won't let Enmerkar win until he promises only to take the art and artists and not destroy the town) is slightly odd. Especially when you consider that the hero is on the side of the aggressor. But the struggle for power in the Middle East is an ancient story and here we find the oldest telling of it yet. If you should wish to give this as a gift to a child, I suggest that you talk up the superpowers, battle scenes, and cool monsters as you hand it to them. Children aren't going to find the whole oldest-written-story thing all that cool. But a rainbow colored bird giant with, "the teeth of a shark"? Far better. A surprisingly great read and a wonderfully researched tale. A necessary purchase for all libraries everywhere.

5 out of 5 stars The adventure continues!.......2004-02-02

"Caught In The Act" continues the story of the six Kelly children that were were sent away to get adopted by new families because their mother feels that she cannot afford to keep them. I read the first book in the series called "A Family Apart" and it was about the children getting adopted by new families and the second part was about Frances Kelly's adventures with her family. This book talks about how Michael Kelly is doing with the Friedrichs. Mike's main concern is that he believes that the Friedrichs are hiding something from him. He thinks this because he overheard a conversation about somebody named Ulrich. Mike's opinion is that Mr. Friedrich killed him. The story is all about Mike's adventure.

I really enjoyed the novel because it's interesting to see what life was like back in that time. So far I have read the books: A Family Apart, Caught In The Act and In The Face Of Danger. I'm going to read the whole series! If you are thinking of buying this book buy A Family Apart first.

Michael Patrick Kelly, age 11, is one of his five brothers and sisters who are being sent west on an orphan train by their Ma so they can live a better life than they've had working on the streets of New York City. While his brothers and sisters are placed in good homes, Mike finds life difficult with the family he has been adopted into, especially since he had been a pickpocket out of necessity in New York and going west had been his only other choice besides being sent to Tombs Prison. Mr Friedrich, the father, believes that Mike is nothing but trouble and beats him whenever his temper rises. Gunter, the 13 yr. old who hates Mike and would like to see him sent back to NY and Tombs Prison, tries everything he can to get him in trouble. Most of the time, he succeeds, but Mike remains determined and stays with them despite Gunter's efforts. Mrs.Friedrich is a motherly woman who gladly welcomes his placement in their family, and Mike finds a true friend in Reuben, the hired hand, and Marta, who is a housekeeper for the Friedrichs. While Mike is in the wagon on the way to his new home, he overhears a whispered conversation about a man named Ulrich that disappeared. Apparently, Mr.Friedrich thinks that Mike is just like Ulrich and that he should be "taken care of". As the days pass, Mike hears more tidbits of conversation and believes that Mr. Friedrich has killed Ulrich and that he is afraid someone is going to find his out secret. Mike tries to pry more information loose out of Marta, but she only hints that she knows something which does not need concern him. When Reuben disappears after a fight with Mr.Friedrich, Mike can only fear the worst, and later while in the woods he spies a freshly dug patch of dirt. And then on a trip to St. Joseph, Missouri, he openly tells the people at the general store that Reuben is gone and that he suspects Mr.Friedrich of his murder. What will happen next to Mike--Will he find Reuben? And who was Ulrich? Read this 2nd book in the Orphan Train Quartet by Joan Lowery Nixon to find out the happy ending to Mike's story.

Michael Patrick Kelly, a boy who steals to feed his family, is actually a very good kid. He would shine the customer (or victim's) shoes and then pick their pocket. However, he is caught, and sentenced to five years at Tombs prison- or to be sent west to start a new life. He goes west. And that, my friend, is how everything begins. Everyone of his siblings gets good parents- except him. Hans Friedrich, a rather bulky,er, really bulky man with a temper like a bomb- ready to go off. Gunter Friedrich, a 13 year old who hates Mike and is always trying to get him into trouble. And he does, too. Mrs. Friedrich is a lovely and nice cook. The maid, Marta,is in love with a rowdy boy-who loves her back! And Rueben-the hired hand is Mike's best friend. But when Reuben suddenly disapears, and a freshly dug plot of dirt turns up that day, Mike has a creeping suspicion of Mr.Friedrich, and if he will be next...

3 out of 5 stars I liked "Behind the Mask of Spider-Man" better.......2004-07-08

The first and foremost problem with this second behind the scene book of the second Spider-Man movie is that it's just too fully choked with technical aspect and the engineering of the sets and other stuff that I don't really care about. The artworks that actually show Spidey in action, or even just him alone are barely there. I wondered why they titled this book Caught in the Web then. The majority of the portion is allocated to the creation and brainstorming over Dock Ock and his tentacles. I mean, c'mon guys, I like Dock Ock but please..please show him in action with Spidey. And where are those conceptual drawings that depict the cool train fight. I noticed only one pic about it is in the book. It's just unbelievable that this comes from the same author of Behind the Mask. And lastly, where's the all important script???

4 out of 5 stars Why can't Claire stay out of their business?.......2003-02-08

Now, don't get me wrong, this is a great book, but...Claire has just gotten a bit TOO involved in the lives of her friends and her sister. She's concocted this little scheme for all 8 of the islanders to go skiing. Only three of them know how to ski, and Chris really isn't in any business to go skiing. Claire crafted up the scheme to get Jake back (she dumped him in Ben's in Love), but it won't work if he (or someone else) finds out.
This book will keep you on pins and needles, and it will make you laugh out loud when people start suspecting Claire!

4 out of 5 stars What is up with Lucas?.......2002-05-31

Ok, I have enjoyed some of these books, and even this one. But what? Lucas breaks up with Zoey, or prepares to end it because she won't have sex with him? I could really go off on that. If he really truely loved her, he would stop to think about her wanting to wait. Although Zoey could have told him better then that. And should have told him that from the start, so I suppose she did lead him on, but still...

5 out of 5 stars claire has issues.......2001-10-05

I really do not have any respect for Claire. She is manipulative and cold. I am glad she is chasing Jake, because Ben is just intelligent and classy for her.

i personally like lucas and zoey the best, they are the cutest! but it [stinks] about claire and jake, how they can't get their relationship to work out. Claire really cares for jake and that when she decides to be a little, or aLOT munipulative and make it so that when she goes to the mountains with the rest of the group, she will make sure that she and jake get back together.. Unfortunatey... the ski trip ends up [badly], i personally think... and i wish that everything were back to the way it was before.... when i read this book i almost started to cry! its so good u feel like you are the characters.. ps benjiman and nina are so cute too

5 out of 5 stars The Urban Book Source.......2007-08-13

In Caught Up, Deatri Bey-King takes you on a trip through a tangled web of mystery, romance, and suspense in the life of Rosa Bolivar, daughter of one of the most powerful players in the drug and technological worlds. Her life had been one lifted off the pages of a fairy tale until she overhears a spat between her mother and father where she finds out her life just isn't what she thought it was. Through life altering decisions, Mrs. Bey-King brings her characters and us to the light. Definitely the caliber of writing Urban fiction needs.

5 out of 5 stars Get "Caught Up" In The Romance & Suspense.......2007-06-19

"Caught Up" was apparently one of Mrs. Deatri King-Bey earlier novels. I had to back track to some of her earlier work after reading and enjoying "Beauty and the Beast". I found this novel to be fresh and captivating. The book started off a little slow for me, and I got worried thinking I wouldn't be able to get through it. However, I was seriously mistaken, after getting to the second chapter, it definitely turned out to be well worth the read. It was a very intriguing romance, drama and suspense. I thought the way Mrs. King-Bey combined the present with flashbacks to the past flowed nicely, as if you were getting two stories for the price of one. She develops a solid set of characters. I found myself empathizing with their situations and how their pasts issues influenced many of the decisions they made, be it a right or wrong decision. This novel had a fast-moving and unpredictable plot, that constantly kept you wonder what would happen next. I loved Samson's character. He is definitely every woman's fantasy man, attractive, thoughtful, intelligent, and ever the protector. I enjoyed the instant attraction between Samson and Rosa and the fact that David (her real father) even thought that it was fate that brought them together and approved of Samson taking care of his daughter when he couldn't. Definitely a novel you will enjoy getting "Caught Up" in!

5 out of 5 stars A Page Turner.......2006-04-06

Rosa Bolivar has loved her father, Ernesto, all of her life. In her mind he can do no wrong, despite her mother's claim during drunken rages that he is a monster. Just days after Rosa's thirtieth birthday, hidden truths come to light and secrets long ago buried come back to haunt Ernesto. When Rosa discovers Ernesto may not be who she thinks he is she begins a journey on a path towards the truth--a journey that begins at a Florida prison where a drug king sits on death row. During Rosa's visit she meets Samson, a DEA agent who is out to prove Ernesto is not the high-powered business man that Rosa believes him to be. To Rosa's dismay, she quickly finds herself falling in love with Samson and for Samson, the feeling is mutual. Suddenly, Rosa finds herself torn between remaining loyal to Ernesto and exploring her new found feelings for Samson.

I found this to be an excellent read. The characters were well-developed and the plot unfolded at a nice and steady pace. King-Bey's ability to draw her readers into the story and keep them turning pages is outstanding. I anxiously await her second novel, as her talents will only age like fine wine. I definitely recommend that you get caught up with King-Bey.

5 out of 5 stars A great read.......2006-03-24

Caught Up is a contemporary novel. A hard and fast fiction/mystery. The characters are well flushed out and fascinating. Rosa is Caught Up but strong and holds her own-- the death-cell scene proves that. The drug cartel depiction is deadly, yet the story has its endearing moments between daughter and fathers as well. Yes I said fathers. Deatri knows how to smooth the hard angles and not lose the power of the scene. If you like intriguing mysteries this is the book to read, not doubt. It really is a page-turner! I'm most interested in knowing her next project.

5 out of 5 stars Caught up in "Caught Up".......2006-02-21

I have to admit that it's been a long time since I've read an entire book in one day. But after reading the first chapter of this novel, I knew that I wouldn't be able to rest tonight until the last page was turned. I give this book five stars because it surpassed all genres. It was a 1) mystery, 2) romance, 3)suspense, 4)thriller, and 5) everything else rolled into one. I loved all of the characters in this book (even the bad ones had their redeeming qualities). I appreciate the storytelling skills of Deatri King-Bey. She has a distinctive style of writing that pulls you into the story and keeps you on the edge of your seat until the last page. I'm adding her to my list of "new" favorite authors, and I look forward to reading her future novels. I understand that she has several books waiting to be released, and I'm waiting to read them. Thanks for the great read!

Book Description

True stories...
Real voices...

"The day for deportation arrived. We knew our end was near." -- Janina Heshele, Poland

From the centuries-old enmities of Northern Ireland, to the Holocaust and World War II, to the Israel-Palestine conflict, young people share their innermost secrets of growing up.

"I'm not allowed to go out with Neil, but the attraction is there between us. I realise that here in Northern Ireland relationships between Catholics and Protestants are strained. But should religion affect how you view a person?" -- Lisa Burrows, Northern Ireland

Unable to talk openly, these young people took refuge in writing. Often they had to hide their journals and set down their thoughts in secret.

"The Intifada -- that was the start of my grown-up life....The echoes, the ghosts, and the voices make me wonder: Will I ever be able to forgive and forget? Will time ever bury such a tragedy and help me to start over again as a normal human being?" -- Ghareeb, the West Bank

On these pages they vividly record their experiences and offer eyewitness accounts of fear and courage, tragedy and triumph.

Not only did this book show great insights into WWII and the holocaust but I learned a lot about the "Troubles" in Northern Ireland and the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. There are many non-fiction books about such wars but very few are targeted towards young adults, which is why this is such a good book.

5 out of 5 stars Really Good.......2004-07-16

This is an excellent book. If you are into the Holocuast I recomend this.... or really if your into word conflicts really.
It starts out telling about kids caught up in the holocuast.... and if you are a history fanatic, you'll really get into it. Then it goes on to tell about the troubles in northeren Ireland, you know Protestants,, and Catholics. then it tells about the Ireali, Palestini conflicts. You get to see the conflicts through the eyes of children, and see how they feel about it. On the part about Ireland, some of the kids were like... does it matter....? Why do we hate them.... their people too....

4 out of 5 stars Conflicts of young lives during World War II.......2000-05-11

Hey, I don't know if any of you kids are interested in Holocaust or World war II books but if you are and want to know what kids went through during those times read this book.

5 out of 5 stars Conflicts of World War II.......2000-05-11

After reading Why Do They Hate Me, I realized it was a goodbook. The book is based on stories about young Holocaust children whokept a diary before they were taken to a concentration camp. At one point on the book, a young girl mentions that her family owned an illegal radio set. My opinion on that is that it's wrong because all people were made to be equal. There are many stories about these children in the book. They explain how they couldn't go to their school they went to and other things they couldn't do because they were Jewish. This book is a good thing if you are learning about things from the Holocaust. My recommendations would be to all readers because you could always learn new things about history. END

4 out of 5 stars Why Do THey Hate Me?.......2000-05-11

This book was great. I liked the Holocaust and World War II section the most. It is a book that is put together by many childrens diaries that were written during the Holocaust. One of the Children, Janine Phillips, was even shot at by Nazi soldiers, but survived. She lived in the Warsaw Ghetto. Her diary tells aboout how the Nazi's came and took it over. In the diary of Dirk Van der Heide it tells how his mother is killed by an air raid and he was forced to leave Holland. It also tells how him and his family try to escape Europe to find refuge in the United States. I would recomend this book to teenagers and adults because it does have some pretty violent situations. This book is all about conflicts between races and religious groups.
