Book Description
Kristen Heitzmann's characters leap from the page with a balance of strength and fragility as they face anguish from the past. Jill and Morgan, once high school sweethearts, had loved and lost--each other and the baby whom Jill gave up at birth. Years later, Morgan is outwardly successful, but he is still haunted by the memory of the tiny child. And then Jill shows up again in his life with very disturbing news. With her trademark dramatic storytelling, Heitzmann takes readers on an unforgettable journey with two wounded souls as they struggle toward healing and restoration.

Fav Heitzmann book so far!.......2007-04-23
I so enjoyed reading Rush of Wings and couldn't wait to read it's sequel. I found it helpful that I already knew the characters and had a bit of background. I enjoyed The Still of Night even more. I loved the characters created in Jill and Morgan. Their story came vividly alive through the writing. I couldn't help but feel with them. However, I too would have liked a little more developement of the happy ending. The whole book was devoted to their struggles and heartache and it would have been nice to have a little more resolution played out in the book. The Epilogue was sweet thought! Might we catch another glimpse of these characters in a future book? I would be excited about that!
Great Reading.......2007-02-08
I just finished this book and was a great sequel to Rush of Wings. I liked Morgan's character in the first book (though brother Rick was better for Noelle's character than Morgan). He was just such a likable character even with his demons which he works through in "The Still of Night". I was a little disappointed that Morgan never really got to see or talk to his daughter except on the phone once but guess that made a different slant on the story. I also was a little disappointed that the romance doesn't get off the ground until almost the last page. I would have liked to have seen the last chapter explore that a little further although the epilogue covers the birth of their baby girl-okay what did they name her and also how did their marriage affect other secondary characters in the book-did she continue to teach? okay guess that leaves our imaginations or maybe another sequel is in order. This one picked up enough of Rick and Noelle's life (from A Rush of Wings)to know what was happening with them without dwelling on them too much. I enjoyed Rick's story and now Morgan's but almost the whole book is dwelling on Morgan's problems so would be nice to have a couple chapters of his life at peace. Some reviewers thought there was not enough spiritual emphasis in the 2 books especially the first one but for me it was a nice change from some of the Christian Novels I have read. The author puts enough in to know where our strength is and with God's indwelling the characters work through problems and can have peace. All in all a good book and my favorite so far of Kristen Heitzmann. You will definitely enjoy this book much more if you have read "A Rush of Wings" first.
Makes you think!.......2006-01-30
This is a great book and very moving. It really makes you think and consider your choices. I love how it portrays the problems that men face over abortion, as well as women. I think that is very important and a book everyone should read!
The Still of Night.......2005-09-30
It was a pleasure to read this book and the one preceding -
to see how the characters intertwined. She brought you into the story in such a way that you felt each emotion. It was good to read a story where the characters struggled with life issues as well as their relationship with God. I am delighted to have found Kristen Heitzmann. This is the first time I have read any of her books and I look forward to more!
Another great book from Kristen Heitzmann!!!.......2005-09-01
I just finished this book and I will definetely be reading more from Kristen Heitzmann! The story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. If you read "A Rush of Wings" also by Heitzmann, than you will already know Morgan Spencer, if you haven't you can still dive into this book. Jill Runyan and Morgan Spencer, highschool sweethearts, were torn apart by an accidental pregnancy and lies. They are reunited at their 15th highschool reunion.
Jill has just discovered that her daughter, Kelsey, who she gave up at birth, has leukemia. Kelsey needs a bone marrow transplant so her adoptive parents contact Jill as a donor. Struggling through the hearbreak and agony of not being a match for her daughter, Jill must now locate Morgan and tell him that he was lied to, that his child was not aborted, but she exists and needs his bone marrow in order to live.
Morgan was told when he was 18 that Jill, the love of his life, aborted their baby. He has lived with that belief for the past fifteen years. Today he is a very sucessful millionaire who has turned his back on God, and turns to alcohol way too often. Receiving the news that his daughter was not thrown away, but that she is in desperate need of his bone marrow, he hastens to under go surgery for the transplant.
The story explores love, forgiveness, prayer, and many other issues. You will no be disappointed after you read this book. It will make you want to go and read all of Kristen Heitzmann's books. Like I said earlier, you can read "A Rush of Wings" before you read this one is you want a better understanding of the characters. But you don't have to in order to enjoy this story.

Book Description
Running from terrors both recent and remembered, Noelle flees her New York mansion for the Rocky Mountains, seeking a place to hide from the men who betrayed her. Her sanctuary is a horse ranch, where she discovers solace in the breathtaking scenery she paints. But as the attentions of two brothers slowly soften the wall she hides behind, the past she yearns to escape becomes a menacing threat she cannot deny. Will Noelle find courage to give her broken heart to the One whose perfect love casts out all fear? Kristen Heitzmann skillfully creates a story resonating with emotion and a poignant spiritual journey.
Customer Reviews:
Good Read but not Heitzmann's best.......2007-08-07
Let me first preface this with the note that I read the entire book in the loadtimes of playing a video game and in the 1 minute b/f my computer gets up and running. That scattered bit reading might have something to do with my blah feeling of the book overall.
There is very little action, hardly any suspense, though those are balanced by a few good twists.
The romance is blah, the characters are fine...semi annoying but fine.
She's a good writer, great even, but some of the dialogue had the distinctly "eh-that was dumb" feel to it.
Is it a worthwhile buy? Depends on your tastes.
Is it a worthwhile read? Yes, if you like the slow, meandering type romances.
I loved it!!!!!!!.......2006-09-25
I absolutely loved it. Characters are real, with real problems. Christians make mistakes and then ask for forgiveness. That is what I found while reading this wonderful book. Not for cookie cutter Christians.
Good storyline, but lacking spiritual depth.......2006-09-25
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book but found it lacking in spiritual depth. I never truly got the sense that I was reading a novel that had a Christ-centered message. I believe this story would have had more value to it's readers if the Christian character, Rick, would have had a bigger part to play in the lives of the other characters. It was a good storyline full of intrigue, suspense, and a growing love between a man and a woman but left alot to be desired when it came to a true message of Godly hope and what it means to be a Christian in the world today. It is a clean read for those of us who find that neccessary.
A "One Sitting" Read.......2006-07-17
This was the first book I ever read by Kristen Heitzmann, & I followed it up with a couple more shortly thereafter. I felt as though I were gobbling down a feast I never wanted to end. When it was over I felt so joyous & serene, eagerly anticipating the sequel (which I just ordered).
I found so much of myself in Noelle & was deeply impacted by the way Mrs. Heitzmann gently yet realistically dealt with such issues as child & sexual abuse. It was impossible to dislike any character, even Michael, Noelle's former fiance & the focus of much of her initial angst. Each character was so well & gradually developed, & the window provided into each one's soul created an understanding of need, fear, & desire that made them all so real. Each character had different demons with which to deal; some overcame, others were lost, & a few...well, there's a sequel.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book & am glad it was my introduction to Mrs. Heitzmann's work. Definitely a book in which one could get lost for hours. She has quickly become one of my favorite authors.
A breath of fresh air for the reader..........2006-02-21
I feel like I have to appologize for my following statement: I am so sick and tired of reading Christian Romance/Suspence who's hero/heroin is devoid of any substance or struggle in their lives. They always seem to have control of themselves and their emotions and the other party in the book is always easily swayed into the arms of God. Having said that, I can not tell you what a breath of fresh air "A Rush of Wings" was. The characters are so real it is not hard at all to be able to relate to them on some level. They have real emotions and real struggles and they turn to God just the way you would expect them to-but my favorite part is they don't get an answer right away like some Christian books would like you to believe. No, one of the main characters in this book, Rick Spencer, depicts a normal man who has to spend time in prayer and the Word but who also has to take chances just like everybody else. And I absolutely love Noelle, the main character. She is so jaded from the world and the author, Kristen Heitzmann, makes no effort to hide Noelle's completely rational thoughts as so why Christianity is not for her, thus making her acceptance of the Lord that much more real and beautiful. I can honestly say I have never read a book that captivated me from the very first sentence until now. The only complaint I have is the back cover did this book absolutely no justice. If you are looking for a good book to read that is packed with romance, suspence and spiritual soundness minus the shoddy attempt to exclude any real romantic or desparate human emotion, then "A Rush of Wings" is a perfect book for you.

Book Description

Playing for the love of the game, with much lower salaries than other professional athletes, these sports celebrities all have weekday jobs. Readers will be intrigued to see their favorite players in their other roles as teachers, athletic coaches, or executives. Along with profiles of major league lacrosse players and the special skills it takes to have two often intense jobs, inside information is given on the National Lacrosse League.
Customer Reviews:
Interesting summaries of Lacrosse players.......2007-07-18
This was a very professionally written account of the lives of 15 very diverse people who also happen to be professional lacrosse players. The book really makes you view these athletes as interested in their sport, valued members of their community, and very different from the multi-million dollar primma donnas who play other professional sports. I definitely recommend this book.
stories of professional lacrosse players.......2007-05-09
This book is filled with stories of professional lacrosse players. The players are atypical from other professional sports players, who are often filled with self-admiration and greed. Yet, they are not exactly everyday people either. The players do have full time jobs and families, but many of them are in noble fields such as teaching, law enforcement, the armed forces, fire fighting... Of course, it takes a noble character to be devoted to such an underpaid and under-appreciated sport. The players sacrifice their bodies, time, and some family commitments for the love of their sport. The writing is clever, and the author gives good insight about the players' individuality, achievements, reminiscences, and dedication.
"Great Book about NLL Lacrosse".......2007-04-14
After the Duke Lacrosse scandal, it was refreshing to see an upbeat well-written book about lacrosse. These players truly honor their sport, and make the casual observer want to learn more. The stories were interesting, and it was a good overview of the NLL, and the players who make the league work. I really enjoyed it, and hope to see more books like it.
Fascinating Book about Lacrosse Players.......2007-04-13
This book was interesting, insightful, and sometimes even funny when explaining the lives of 15 "ordinary" people who have jobs, wives, kids, and play professional lacrosse on the weekends. It makes you realize how different pro lacrosse is from other pro sports. (And I mean that in a good way.) The writing was clear and engaging, and I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
Great NLL Book for Fans.......2007-04-12
It was great to finally read a good book on professional lacrosse. The writing was interesting and insightful, and provided a good mix of lacrosse history combined with people who play the game. I would definitely recommend this book for the lacrosse fanatic, or even the casual observer. I enjoyed it!
Book Description
Our smartest and funniest progressive writers, cartoonists and satirists have increasingly turned their attention to the right-wing zealots who clutter up our media—television, radio, books, magazines—with hysterical, bullying, personal attacks on liberals, democrats, minorities, workers, women, gays, anti-war activists and ordinary citizens who dare to object to the right’s radical agenda for our country. This reader exposes the lies and distortions of these morons and bullies—who routinely rely on made-up statistics and scare tactics to push their policies and so-called values, revealing these liars for what they are—intellectually shallow and emotionally crippled demagogues who are more interested in their personal power than in America’s future. Featuring a wonderful compilation of attacks by Michael Moore, Molly Ivins and Jim Hightower; profiles of Ann Coulter and Peggy Noonan; transcripts from debates and interviews that humiliate Savage and O’Reilly; quizzes by Paul Slansky; commentary by stand-up comedians; satire from The Onion and other websites; works by Greg Palast and Chris Floyd; and much, much more. The I Hate Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Sean Hannity Reader is a piece of sweet revenge for the harm these mean-spirited demagogues are doing to our country and our world.

So the Truth comes out snotty Jonathan Alterman is a hater and can scribble dreck to prove that he is.
Terrific expose of right-wing liars.......2007-07-06
This is a must read for all political people. The right-wingers attacked in this book are all media senations who have been getting away with dissembling for too much of their careers. No more. The various contributors cut their weak arguments to shreds. This was well worth reading- I only wish the book was longer. Thank you, Mr.Willis.
They do it.......2007-06-21
Coulter, O'Reilly, Limbaugh and the rest of the right-wing whackos. . .they spew HATE and Bigotry and Racism.
If they (or their ditto-heads) can't stand the fire, they can get out of the kitchen.
Here's another one for you to chew on: right wing lunitics hate American Freedoms. They hate progression. They hate critical thinking. They should be exposed for the liars they really are: books like this simply highlight a need for counter-balance.
Let the guard go down: this is war.
Time to shut up these morons for good.
We Have to Protect the Country From the Right Wing.......2007-04-19
If it against the right wing nuts who brainwash American fools to act against their own best interests, it must be good.
About the book's title . . . The 'I Hate' Reader.......2007-01-02
IF FOX ZOMBIES can leave one-star reviews, having never read the book, then I can counter them while making an honest observation. I, too, grimace at the way hate is thrown around casually. But looking at the cover of this book, the way the graphics emphasize certain words, it would appear the title of the book might rightly read, "The 'I Hate' Reader," with a list of those hatemongers critiqued in the volume. Thus the word hate in the title rightly reflects on the mean-spirited, rightwing pundits critiqued within, and not on their sincere critics. Or is that obvious?

An Assault On The Reader .......2005-06-11
I am not a big fan of Rush Limbaugh, I would even admit to somewhat disliking the man. I also tend to fall to more of the moderate side of the political isle. So you would think that I would have really liked this book, unfortunately for me I did not. I am all for going after the many misstatements that Rush makes and his very far right wing view of the world. I would have even enjoyed a bit of grief given to the conservative section of the Republican party, but this book went way beyond what I wanted to read. The author started out taking on the items are mentioned above, it was just that the author used this as a starting point. He went after everything to the right of full blown socialism.
As I read I kept thinking what in the world is this guy thinking. He has an issue with about everything that is remotely associated with the Republican party. He was mad at business owners having the ability to move their businesses around the U.S., he does not like any kind of anti union activity and he is aghast that anyone might be opposed to government control of all aspects of the community. Overall the author takes the opportunity of this book to beat up on everything slightly red. The venom kept increasing through the book to the point that you feel like the author is standing up in front of you yelling.
Overall the book was far too negative for me. The author has a huge chip on his shoulder and he is going to let the world know about it. I was looking for a funny and campy book that took as many shots at Rush about his politics as it did about his waistline. If you are a hard core hater of all things Republican then you will probably enjoy the book. If you are looking for anything a bit less over the top then keep looking.
Pathetic.......2003-11-23
I'm not surprised that many of the reviewers here gave the books such high marks. Their reviews, much like the book, are littered with misspellings and other inaccuracies. Perhaps we can blame this on the evil Conservative Right-Wing establishment known as our education system....oh, wait....it's largely Liberal? Holy cow. Oh, sorry, a religious reference. Shame on me!
The Great Con...period!.......2003-11-09
I thought this was a pure expose book on the great limbaugh but after reading it, it was more like finishing a course on Socialism, Political History and Economics.
This book does a great job in explaining in a non-condecending, patient manner on how this whole country will eventually turn into Spartanburg... anti-worker, anti-community, anti-union and seeping with greed. And we have rush and the right to thank for.
I do listen to rush, just to see if he is intelligent and credible. I didn't see any believable credibility there, but there's a lot of hate and disdain. Hate for anyone who's isn't as sophisticated, who didn't have a formal education, who don't belong to the right, social, ethnic and economical strata and mostly disdain for humans who labor with their hands and backs. That's why it is so important for working people to read this book, because it reiterates something that is so true "Labor creates all wealth for all people to share." Workers are the essential equation in a Democratically successful society. Workers are not to be hated and disdained, after all, Mr. Patrick J. Hurley, isn't that what God and religion is suppose to be about, love, sharing and brotherhood?
Ofcourse this book has much, much details and really delves into a lot of statistics but it doesn't make you feel bogged down. Kelly's writing style is easy to comprehend, even when he gets technical. He can also be sarcastic and funny at times. I really appreciate this book as a working, tax paying person.
They Can Dish it Out; But They Can't Take It.......2003-08-25
Like all bullies...and fan(atics) of bullies the few here who reacted badly to this nifty little book reveal themselves to be highly prejudiced.
Suffice it to say that in all his years of "success" Limbaugh has never subjected himself to having a real fair series of in depth debates with equal time for both sides in an arena in which he is not in total control. Imagine Rush going head to head for, say 20 hours, of truly fair debates with Bill Clinton, or Gary Hart, or Mario Cuomo, or Hillary Clinton etc etc.
Limbaughism only "works" in the hothouse of the studio of right wing hate radio in which he holds all the cards...no wonder his "fans" think he is some kind of god.
All Limbaugh ever does is bloviate in a bubble; the calls that disagree with him are carefully screened for (in)competence and anyone who ever actually seriously challenges the bloviator is potted down as "El Rushbo" pontificates as if the disappeared "opponent" was somehow struck dumb.
Limbaugh and ALL right wing media (FOX et al) is to "Fair and Balanced" as WWF wrestling is to Greco Roman Olympic wrestling.
Unfortunately, it's easier to roll a ball downhill by appealing to the basest elements of human nature.....so the appeal to selfish materialism and bigotry and jingoism that underlies Rush et al will always be a cheap shot that is easy to take and easy to make.
The irony is that Rush and his ilk cloak their venom in terms of religiosity and patriotism and high sounding values.....but at the core; all they do is allow people to actually feel perversely proud of being materialistic, selfish, jingoistic, and bigoted. No wonder he is popular with a large number of people; demagoguery works...for a while.
Eventually, the reality of reality catches up with all of us. The effects of climate change will eventually be what they will be...the effects of non renewable rescource depletion will be what they will be....the effects of Bush II Enronian trickle down "voodoo economics" will be what they will be.....eventually the global and national effects of massive bifurcation between the super rich and the dirt poor will be what they will be etc etc etc.
Time will eventually tell whether Limbaugh is some kind of glorious prophet as his fans believe; or if he is a pathetic and dangerous demogogue.
We should all live so long, eh? :-)
Rush is very, very Right(Wing).......2003-03-19
I just read Alterman's book "What Liberal Media", and it reminded me of this book. Right wing fanatics like Limbaugh and Coulter are rarely correct, and often have to make up "facts" to back up their faulty logic. Keep away from these conservatives, who only have the corporations and rich in mind when they speak.
